You're about to beat the crap out of the cute.

Well, maybe. You've never really had a chance to truly observe Yuuhi-chan fighting outside of a couple of fights that you were also fighting during. You do know she telegraphs nothing, that she is at least as fast as you are, and that she's in no way limited to the Japanese styles of combat. In fact, she's facing you in a Shaolin staff-fighting position, while you're facing her in a semi-defensive Dragon style opening. With her sword peace bonded, the length of the nodachi makes for an unusual but effective bo-staff.

The Barrier she created is just for the two of you, and she claims to be wanting to teach you a lessen. No, that's not quite true – she's protesting that you've forgotten humility and that you're dealing with your anger towards the people who hurt the people you care about in a bad way. She's not wrong, really; you've been bottling up that type of anger for weeks, almost months now. Part of the problem is that you don't have normal outlets for your anger; when you fight your enemies it's impersonal and utterly methodical, and you really don't want to traumatize your loved ones any more than they already have been.

So now Yuuhi, who is a great deal more observant than you ever gave her credit for before, is going to provide you with a target to unleash all that pent up anger and frustration on, namely herself. Because she cares about you and your loved ones.

At the moment, you really aren't in the mood to care about that. You're literally bursting with rage, and you just need to hurt someone. On the other hand, Yuuhi-chan has proven she's no slouch even outside of Barrier Combat. She landed a blow on you earlier, one which you are positive you should have been able to counter. You weren't trying hard, then. Now, however....maybe you'll teach her a lesson to two. Or learn one.

[] Take it to her hard and fast.
[] Let her come to you.
[] Circle and study first.
[] Water Eyes, though you're sure they'll be useless.
[] Steady attack to feel out her defenses.

>[] Take it to her hard and fast.
>>
>>43104585
>[] Take it to her hard and fast.
Honestly, though, if we were human, this would be a terrible way to deal with anger and frustration.
The brain chemicals released during fighting and having attacks connect only reinforces 'anger=release of feel-good chemicals' and only makes people feel anger more easily so that they can hit something to feel good again.

But since we're a Water Dragonette/demigod, maybe the rules are different.
>>
>>43104585
>[] Steady attack to feel out her defenses.
>>
>>43104645

That's part of the reason why I voted Void Eyes
>>
>>43104692

It's blowing up steam. Ryukusa usually bottle up her anger and her clinical approach of fighting doesn't allow her any catharsis.

It's like screaming when your frustration become unbearable: it doesn't solve problems, but you feel better afterward.

I'm against hurting Yuuhi in any ways, though.
>>
>>43104585
>[] Take it to her hard and fast.
The intention isn't to defeat her, or to learn how she fights, or to get to know her, at least primarily. First and foremost, we want to relieve stress. So, forget tricks, forget tactics. Get mad.
>>
>>43104645
>Yes, but Yuuhi created it off center, which you understood as being not possible.

>>43104692
>Ryukusa never feels that.
>>
>>43104790
But that's dangerous anon!
>>
>>43104923

Ryukusa's always careful. That's part of her problem.
>>
>>43104923
Its fine anon what could possibly go wrong?
>>
>>43104770
And clinical studies have shown that doing things like that, physical show of 'blowing off steam', make the situation worse by creating a positive feedback loop.
The whole "feeling better afterwards" part is a reward mechanism that your brain is hardwired to pursue, meaning that since you feel better, you will unconsciously work towards recreating the situation; i.e. getting angry again and finding some way to release it physically.

>>43104796
Ryukusa doesn't feel that during normal combat, but if she lets herself feel good when releasing anger by hitting someone now, then she's reinforcing that getting angry and hitting someone feels good and her brain will try to recreate that situation again.
Or are you saying that it won't happen due to spiritchild/demigod physiology?
>>
>>43104796
>Ryukusa never feels that.
Water Dragonettes confirmed for robots.

Wood-based aromatherapy confirmed for useless. Fire-based electroshock therapy confirmed for fatal.

no wait a moment
>>
>>43104954

Dude. Everything the brain does has a positive or negative feedback loop.

Even if Ryukusa felt like this, her getting angry this time wouldn't be worse than the negative feedback she gets by forcing herself to keep her emotions in check.
>>
>>43104951
That's a good point, you've convinced me.
>>
>>43105004
>wouldn't be worse than the negative feedback she gets by forcing herself to keep her emotions in check.
The mounting evidence of experiments and studies shows that it is worse, and that relaxation and mediation therapies are what actually fixes anger.
>>
>>43105004

Beside, it's not one instence that will transform Ryukusa into a violence-junky

And letting her feelings be more free, in some ammount, would be good for Ryukusa.
>>
[X] Take it to her hard and fast.
[+] Void Eyes

You keep your eyes fixed on your opponent as you face off against Yuuhi-chan and open your Void Eyes – or start to. Yuuhi moves fast, fast enough that you're forced to give up on the thought before you can do more than start to think of the effort. Rather than take the defensive like you would ordinarily do, you move into her attack, taking the blow on your right forearm before the momentum can be strong enough to hurt you. You lash out with a closed left fist, rather than the claws you'd ordinarily use, but that's because you're not trying to hurt Yuuhi badly. Yuuhi levers her sheathed weapon against your forearm and blocks your strike, her own left hand moving past yours to take hold of the 'staff' further down.

Your right elbow goes up, not to strike her but to drop her staff on your left side; your right hand opens, and you pull it back with the staff braced on the back of your injured hand, sending the staff at her head from your right. Predictably she moves with the staff, circling to your left, her hands still wrapped around the shaft. A thrust with your right hand at her exposed face and neck misses entirely as she drops into the splits, the staff sweeping up and around at your left side. You launch a knee at her head, but she falls forward along her leg while protecting your left side with your left arm.
>>
>>43105144
Stepping out, you straddle her leg and reach for her back while taking the blow on your left arm....and she ~rolls over~ onto her back, which lets her bring her outstretched leg up and forces you to back away before the heel kick strikes you in the chest or locks your arm up with her staff. That gives her enough time to whip her leg around and push off the ground, and she's in a twisted crouch, her staff angled along her shoulders from behind her neck.

[] What the hell, is she part snake?
[] You're not supposed to ask a lady her age but there's no way she's less than five hundred!
[] Time to get a staff of your own, you need an advantage.
[] Tease her into another attack with Void Eyes again.
[] Switch to grappling techniques, she's too slippery!

This is a little out of place but I'm gonna drop the questions that I've been able to remember now since I'll miss out on the entire thread due to work. Looking forward to reading everything that happens later.

>I didn't get the bit about Red Robes and White Robes. Ryukusa chose to be a slave rather than death? I guess I'm missing some sort of cultural significance here.

>You keep using kasan but I've never seen that word used for wife. Are you referring to Kaa-san for mother in the use rather than Tsuma for wife?
>>
>>43105585

The red robes/white robes dychotomy is essentially: would you live through Hell for as long as needed, knowing success of relief is likely to never come, or die and save yourself the pain and horrors?

"Kasan" is indeed for mother, I'm pretty sure.
>>
[XX] Switch to grappling techniques, she's too slippery!
[X] Tease her into another attack with Void Eyes again.
[+] Boxing switch up bonus!

You've fought your share of flexible dragonettes and dragonnes, and one really weird oni-girl you're positive had no bones, but Yuuhi-chan is something else entirely. There's only so much you can do with someone who has that level of flexibility, and that's get up close and personal.

Grappling techniques are the best way to fight someone who is that flexible with a reach weapon, but when – not if – she drops the sword then you have to switch to something else. She's already moving; she's not letting you have the time to think too much! She sweeps the staff around as she spirals from couch to standing, but you've already caught the weapon in both hands. Naturally she twists and pulls but you go with the movement and catch her hand on the staff. Her knee moves to lock your shin and foot against hers, but you push forward, making her stance weaker. Your other hand closes on hers, and you pry it loose from the sword, starting to put her into a hand and arm lock.
>>
>>43105196
>>43105153

I vote Boxing too.
>>
>>43105715
She drops the sheathed katana, as expected, and twists away from you, which you expected, as you force her arm straight. Yuuhi flicks her ears and steps in front of her other foot, crossing her legs at the shins as she drops even lower....and then spirals up and twists, reversing the hold on her arm and looking at you face to face! Her hand is still yours, but both of the locks are useless....

So you give her a right jab, bounce into her, and follow with a left uppercut and right body blow. Of them you manage a glancing blow on the long right shot; it's like trying to hit a Fire dragonette. She launches several palm strikes, but you are almost as fast, fast enough to avoid most of them. The one she does land isn't powerful enough to do you any harm, but her hand remains on your arm....

[] Sticky palms, she's going for the grapples.
[] Work with it, not against it.
[] Palm strikes and leg locks!
[] ….knee to the crotch.
[] Give her your tail, see how she copes with that!
>>
>>43105585
Red robes used to be used for prisoners. White robes are burial shrouds.
Would you rather live your life as a prisoner, or would you rather give up your life and die?

"Kasan" is literally "mother of my child". It technically applies to several people now.

"Ottosan" is literally "dearest husband".

Immediately you reach over and place your palm against her arm, and she responds by placing her hand against your breastbone, between your breasts. You do the same, and it instantly devolves into a see-saw of push and counter-push, both of you vying for the point at which someone is off balance. You have an advantage in that you're never off balance naturally; it takes unusual circumstances to throw off your sense of bal

Yuuhi licks your face.

[XXXXXXXXXXXXX] Grab her by the ears – gently – and rub.
[XXXXXXXXX] Fine, you can lick anyone she- wait, that isn't how that works.
[+] It's a trap. A naughty, sweet trap.

She stands there, looking at you, her hand on your chest, her glowing crimson eyes looking guilelessly into your glowing sapphire eyes.

You shouldn't fall for this. It's so damn obvious.

Your gonna fall for this.

You want to fall for this.

Fuck it.

You reach up and grab her ears – carefully, recalling how very, very sensitive they are - and carefully rub the soft insides with your thumbs, your fingers stroking the silky fur along the back lightly and lovingly. Her eyes roll back, and she takes a wobbly step forward as you gently rub and stroke, careful of the soft, smooth skin inside, the delicate fur outside, the delicate, supremely sensitive tips getting just the barest touch.

Yuuhi-chan moans softly, her nipples diamond hard under her....you have no idea what it's called, and right now you don't particularly care. She's trembling, shivering violently, and you lean close, drawing your tongue along her cheek.
>>
>>43106692
Worth it.
I dunno what 'it' is, but worth.
>>
>>43106692
Her knee between your legs is probably the most agonizing thing you've felt since Kiku and Kiki scrubbed you down after you were peppered by slivers and needles. Your stomach clenches hard, then roils in your guts like a living thing. You drop to your knees, white hot pain blanking your mind of everything and everyone after the initial impact. Any breath you had is completely gone, and you can't do or feel anything but suffer through that agonizing blankness.

Your breath hitches several times; then the nausea overwhelms you, and you retch, the only thing coming up vile humors and poison. Yuuhi's hands are on your back; your eyes are watering so badly you can't see anything. You retch again....then you manage to draw a breath....and without reason or control, you start bawling your fool head off, the pain and agony nothing compared to the raw, bitter anguish of not begin able to protect them enough, watching them suffer from the horrors inflicted on them by others. Hate, real hate for those who deserve it isn't right, or natural, or good, but it's all there, and there is softness and warmth and you clutch onto it for dear life.

It takes you the better part of an hour to cry yourself into the first truly natural sleep you've had in weeks.
>>
>>43106720
You wake up with your head in Yuuhi's lap, your mouth tasting of salt water. No pain, of course, you healed five or six minutes into your crying jag. Yuuhi is looking down at you, her glowing eyes as innocent and guileless as ever, her hand gently stroking your hair, lightly petting your sapphire horns.

[XXX] You think, you're pretty sure you're really okay now.
[XX] That's what they call Satori, isn't it?
[X] Sorry, Yuuhi-chan.
[+] Thanks, and hugs
[+] Bonus.

You reach up and stroke Yuuhi's cheek lightly, looking up at those soft, gentle eyes of crimson. She smiles uncertainly, as though she's embarrassed or not quite sure how you're going to react. “Gomennasai, Yuuhi-chan. You were right. I was wrong.” She looks relieved, not by your admission of being wrong, but that you called her Yuuhi-chan. Her eyes fill with tears and she smiles at you. “Thank you. I didn't know how to fix it....” You do now, in a far less painful way, but you understand where you went wrong, why it went wrong.

It's not enough to harbor the anger, or try and meditate through it. It has to be accepted for what it is, and then discarded. That last part is hard for you, with your memory and clever mind. “That was instant enlightenment, wasn't it? Like the Zen masters.”

She nods, her smile gentle, and soft, but unworried. “Uh huh.”

“I'm better now. And I'm okay.”

“Uh huh.” She nods again, smiling, those guileless eyes glimmering. Unreadable. When she kneed you in the groin, a maneuver you've been able to predict since you were seven from anyone. Unpredictable. Like when you look at her with the Destruction Seeing Right Eye. Entirely destructive, but only where she herself is, never beyond that. Your heartbeat quickens. Satori, like the Zen Masters. Someone more advanced in the Mind like a Moon technique than Shoko-san's father. Utterly unpredictable, impossibly fast, yet not fast enough to be unstoppable. Able to use Ghost Fire without suffering from the evil that it is. Yet she never defeats an enemy on her own.

[X] You're not mortal, are you?
[XX] It doesn't matter, this is Yuuhi.
[XX] ….ask her why it's you.
[X] Does she have to leave now?
[XX] Will she stay with your family for a while longer, at least?
[+] Kisses and reminders.

[X] Yuuhi is Yuuhi, and she's here now. If she leaves or stays, she's still Ryuu Yuuhi.

You gaze up at the enlightened immortal that you made a part of your family, and smile sadly. “It doesn't matter. Yuuhi is Yuuhi.”

“She smiles back at you, more brightly. “Uh huh.”

You lever yourself up, your hand cupping the back of her head, which confuses her, until you bring her face to your so that you may kiss her, slowly, gently, fully. She kisses back, and it lasts forever, and for a moment. You let her go and she looks down at you, confused, but smiling stupidly.

“Why me, Yuuchi?” She giggles at the use of the pet name you called her when she was panicking, terrified you would be hurt by the explosives you disarmed. But she also shakes her head.

“Huh?”

“I mean....why did you choose me?”

She blinks mildly at that rephrased question. “Why not?”
>>
>>43108353
….sometimes you think that you're just stupid in some fundamentally fucked up way that makes you keep walking into that particular type of question. “Are you going to have to go away?”

Yuuhi seems even MORE confused. “I'm your samurai, I'm not supposed to let you go anywhere without protection!”

….now you're positive you're missing something basic.

Oh. ZEN MASTER. Duh. She's just going to live her life and there's not shit anyone can do about it. You suddenly smile. “Do you remember what I said about nogitsune-children, youkai-children, and kitsune-children, and oni-children?”

“Hai aniki, I remember. It's still weird.”

….

Maybe there's something you really are missing? Are you wrong? Is she just....no. No way is she ordinary. You're just not getting it. But she IS right about one thing. “You're absolutely right. You're my samurai, my beloved protector. My Yuuchi.” You sit up and kiss her again, when her eyes flutter closed, you do a bit more than kiss her.

Well, a lot more.

You look up at the black sky, and the unmoving stars silently, Yuuhi curled up next to you, sleeping peacefully. Absently stroking her ears, you're grateful she helped you, glad that she's staying with you, and happy she is one of yours. A strange mixture of innocent and wise, powerful and helpless, you think she's probably more human than you've ever been. Well, you're closer than you were before she dragged you off at least, and that might be a very good thing.

Horobi with anger management problems would be Susano-Oh, and you're definitely not interested in being that guy.
>>
>>43108375
Sitting up, you cover her with the soft blanket you pulled from ~Nowhere~ sometime hours ago. Or minutes ago, you can't tell, especially in a place like a Barrier. Now you have another choice to make, and these are far harder than the ones that lead you to fighting Yuuhi in a Barrier. You invoke Matagama-no-Shitoki, and take your natural form – well, your supernatural form – that will one day truly be yours.

Even now Yuuhi is tightly sheathed in her destructive capabilities, sleeping, unarmed, and seemingly helpless. Terrifying, now that you know the truth. Gladdening, in that she can help you see the truth.

Oh yeah. We've gotta get her out of the steel, as well as apologize for not allowing her to run wild before-hand.
>>
[X] Stay here for at least two days, enough to let Akari mostly heal.

As much as you hate it, you're certain that staying here - or at least nearby – for two days while Akari heals is the best way to go about things. The tale that they've spun will serve as adequate cover, even for new arrivals such as yourselves. Amusingly, a living saint DID come to visit their shrine, and so did a demigod of the oceans. So the prayers did work pretty well, all things considered.

After two days Akari-niji-chan will be in condition to defend herself, if not protect Kiki-hime; even then, she will be able to assist Kiki-hime in battle. Not that it would stop her from doing more, if she decided to; staying here is just as much to keep her from doing anything stupid as to prevent detection. Hells know you wouldn't let it stop you if you could help it.

You feel Yuuhi-chan waking up before she actually does, and you glide over, sliding under the blankets with her. She snuggles up against you. “G'murn'g.”

“I don't speak Ainu, Yuuchi.”
>>
>>43108894
>>43108894
“M'kay.” She buries her head in your shoulder and you embrace her carefully, leaving your left hand away. She might be immortal, but that doesn't mean she can't die or suffer from poison, if you understand how it works properly. Which you may not. This is a situation you definitely need Er Yin-sensei's or Kiku-chan's expertise on. Then again, you don't know if Yuuhi-chan would like you asking such questions.

Or even if she'd care for that matter.

Still, talking with Er Yin-sensei might be a good idea in any case. You can't do it in a Barrier, of course, but when you're good and ready you'll take care of it. There's also Buki-chan to talk to, and learn about. Right now, you're basking in the warmth of your kind-hearted, slightly mad Zen master samurai.

As you drift back to sleep – blessed sleep – you idly wonder if she's related to Miyamoto....

Nope. I was researching exactly what Ryukusa said to Yuuhi.

She finds it weird because treating people like other people only makes sense if you treat everybody like other people, instead of differentiating between people who don't bother Ryukusa's family or not. She can understand treating everyone the same, and everyone different, but not picking or choosing which it is at any given time.

Oh, I'm worried alright. Though, we have the advantage of having Destruction as our attribute.

Those beings seems to be more a lack of spiritual than anything else, created from the destruction of Japan-as-it-was and the hole the bombing left in the country's soul. But we will deal with them.

>>
>>43109831
Sure we can. Then we can tell her we're bi. Or that we've experimented, at least
>>
>>43109825
They're christian demons made of spiritual destruction. If you think about how destroying stuff in a barrier works regarding it's durability, it means they're made of what Ghost Fire is made of.
>>
>>43109890

What.

Ryukusa never did, and isn't bi.
>>
>>43109971

That is to say, Ryukusa is as mono-confessional as possible in Japan's complicated religion system. Our relationship with Yuuhi doesn't change this.
>>
>>43109932
There's nothing Christian or daemonic about nuclear initiations. They, and the spiritual effects they have, are purely human in nature.

Perhaps that's why Ghost Fire can't harm those ghosts, because they aren't really ghosts. They are the ongoing spiritual damage of the initiation.
>>
>>43111097
And yet they originated from the Christian religion, but you make some fairly excellent points of how they are basically beings connected to the destruction of spirituality itself.
>>
>>43111495
>nuclear weapons originated from christianity
what?
>>
>>43111720

>>
>>43111883
>>43111720
Something about christianity being an active religion in japan, and the (religious) idea of the end of the world and the nuclear bombing creating the ghost/demons. Kiku thought they were literal christian demons/devils.
>>
>>43112326
>>43111720
The specific cause of their creation was the belief that Armageddon, an event of Christian origin, had occurred. The fact it was a nuke has nothing to do with that result; anything that could have completely convinced a very large number of people at once that the end of the world was happening would have created similar demons.
