Honestly, though, if we were human, this would be a terrible way to deal with anger and frustration.
The brain chemicals released during fighting and having attacks connect only reinforces 'anger=release of feel-good chemicals' and only makes people feel anger more easily so that they can hit something to feel good again.

But since we're a Water Dragonette/demigod, maybe the rules are different.

It's blowing up steam. Ryukusa usually bottle up her anger and her clinical approach of fighting doesn't allow her any catharsis.

It's like screaming when your frustration become unbearable: it doesn't solve problems, but you feel better afterward.

You keep your eyes fixed on your opponent as you face off against Yuuhi-chan and open your Void Eyes – or start to. Yuuhi moves fast, fast enough that you're forced to give up on the thought before you can do more than start to think of the effort. Rather than take the defensive like you would ordinarily do, you move into her attack, taking the blow on your right forearm before the momentum can be strong enough to hurt you. You lash out with a closed left fist, rather than the claws you'd ordinarily use, but that's because you're not trying to hurt Yuuhi badly. Yuuhi levers her sheathed weapon against your forearm and blocks your strike, her own left hand moving past yours to take hold of the 'staff' further down.

Your right elbow goes up, not to strike her but to drop her staff on your left side; your right hand opens, and you pull it back with the staff braced on the back of your injured hand, sending the staff at her head from your right. Predictably she moves with the staff, circling to your left, her hands still wrapped around the shaft. A thrust with your right hand at her exposed face and neck misses entirely as she drops into the splits, the staff sweeping up and around at your left side. You launch a knee at her head, but she falls forward along her leg while protecting your left side with your left arm.

Stepping out, you straddle her leg and reach for her back while taking the blow on your left arm....and she ~rolls over~ onto her back, which lets her bring her outstretched leg up and forces you to back away before the heel kick strikes you in the chest or locks your arm up with her staff. That gives her enough time to whip her leg around and push off the ground, and she's in a twisted crouch, her staff angled along her shoulders from behind her neck.

You've fought your share of flexible dragonettes and dragonnes, and one really weird oni-girl you're positive had no bones, but Yuuhi-chan is something else entirely. There's only so much you can do with someone who has that level of flexibility, and that's get up close and personal.

Grappling techniques are the best way to fight someone who is that flexible with a reach weapon, but when – not if – she drops the sword then you have to switch to something else. She's already moving; she's not letting you have the time to think too much! She sweeps the staff around as she spirals from couch to standing, but you've already caught the weapon in both hands. Naturally she twists and pulls but you go with the movement and catch her hand on the staff. Her knee moves to lock your shin and foot against hers, but you push forward, making her stance weaker. Your other hand closes on hers, and you pry it loose from the sword, starting to put her into a hand and arm lock.

So you give her a right jab, bounce into her, and follow with a left uppercut and right body blow. Of them you manage a glancing blow on the long right shot; it's like trying to hit a Fire dragonette. She launches several palm strikes, but you are almost as fast, fast enough to avoid most of them. The one she does land isn't powerful enough to do you any harm, but her hand remains on your arm....

Her knee between your legs is probably the most agonizing thing you've felt since Kiku and Kiki scrubbed you down after you were peppered by slivers and needles. Your stomach clenches hard, then roils in your guts like a living thing. You drop to your knees, white hot pain blanking your mind of everything and everyone after the initial impact. Any breath you had is completely gone, and you can't do or feel anything but suffer through that agonizing blankness.

Your breath hitches several times; then the nausea overwhelms you, and you retch, the only thing coming up vile humors and poison. Yuuhi's hands are on your back; your eyes are watering so badly you can't see anything. You retch again....then you manage to draw a breath....and without reason or control, you start bawling your fool head off, the pain and agony nothing compared to the raw, bitter anguish of not begin able to protect them enough, watching them suffer from the horrors inflicted on them by others. Hate, real hate for those who deserve it isn't right, or natural, or good, but it's all there, and there is softness and warmth and you clutch onto it for dear life.

It takes you the better part of an hour to cry yourself into the first truly natural sleep you've had in weeks.

I was wrong.” She looks relieved, not by your admission of being wrong, but that you called her Yuuhi-chan. Her eyes fill with tears and she smiles at you. “Thank you. I didn't know how to fix it....” You do now, in a far less painful way, but you understand where you went wrong, why it went wrong.

It's not enough to harbor the anger, or try and meditate through it. It has to be accepted for what it is, and then discarded. That last part is hard for you, with your memory and clever mind. “That was instant enlightenment, wasn't it? Like the Zen masters.”

She nods, her smile gentle, and soft, but unworried. “Uh huh.”

As much as you hate it, you're certain that staying here - or at least nearby – for two days while Akari heals is the best way to go about things. The tale that they've spun will serve as adequate cover, even for new arrivals such as yourselves. Amusingly, a living saint DID come to visit their shrine, and so did a demigod of the oceans. So the prayers did work pretty well, all things considered.

After two days Akari-niji-chan will be in condition to defend herself, if not protect Kiki-hime; even then, she will be able to assist Kiki-hime in battle. Not that it would stop her from doing more, if she decided to; staying here is just as much to keep her from doing anything stupid as to prevent detection. Hells know you wouldn't let it stop you if you could help it.

You feel Yuuhi-chan waking up before she actually does, and you glide over, sliding under the blankets with her. She snuggles up against you. “G'murn'g.”

“I don't speak Ainu, Yuuchi.”
