Your shadow shall fall over the Galaxy.

And Death will grow in its path.

You once lead a great fleet from system to system, consuming world after world to fuel your armies. You conquered the living and converted them to the worship of the dread sun Wormstar and the Undying Court.

Both have fallen to the passage of time but you have been given a second chance to carve our your own dynasty among the stars. Already you've started to turn the distant colony world of Horizon's Drop into the first step of your reclamation of power.

Through careful planning and luck you've managed to grow the start of your new army. The dead are reconstructed and the living enslaved to your profane will. Your creations hunt and kill in the cold mountains as the hapless colonists and alien occupiers seem to have no idea of your presence, focused on other threats.

You wonder just how long your threat will remain unseen and just how long secrecy will be needed.

For now you grow your strength. You are a patient undead but centuries if not millennia imprisoned have made you eager for action and you believe you will have your chance for excitement soon.

Welcome back folks

Pastebin with item and troop costs: http://pastebin.com/q6EVSh43
Make sure to follow my twitter where I announce the threads: https://twitter.com/CeroTheNull

Troop totals:
>Talons: 35
>Cyclops: 10
>Stingers: 23
>Gargoyles: 6
>Trolls: 8 (all ranged, two with melee weapons)
>Enslaved Minions: 3 Human miners, 1 Osjiic Voidsinger, 1 Osjiic Commander
>1 Osjiic Zombie

You nod in satisfaction as Jor and the other miners put the final touches on to your latest creation. The large black stone chair you once mockingly called your throne during your imprisonment has been carved out and dragged to the surface. Now it hovers several feet above the ground atop a humming hoverpad salvaged from the drone repair room.

Levitating yourself to take a seat you nod in satisfaction. A pair of reanimated but clearly butched Cliff-jumpers are chained to the stone throne and with a brush of your will you sit back as the pair of beasts start to pull your new palanquin along the clearing. Pleased with the suggestion from Jor, you remove yourself from your new mobile throne and pat Jor on the shoulder, "Well done," you say and you feel pride, mostly from Jor but also the other two humans to varying degrees, at your compliment.

The sensor tower took that moment to let out an alert and the Voidsinger rushes over and punches at the console. You approach and watch over the large aliens shoulder as a 3D map of the valley and mountains shows a red blip racing across the sky.

You can then hear it and you look up over the valley where the sun was just starting to rise. A dropship of rough make and heavily repaired sails through the dawn air and you watch as the distant colony suddenly opens up with their anti-air batteries. A trio of beams light up the sky converging on the ship and you watch as it catches fire and banks sharply sailing over mountains before crashing in the distance. Shortly after the Osjiics radio blares with excited shouting.
>>
>>43094045
Jyoti you finally did a space civ, I remember when there was a discussion about it with the gnoll space pirate conversation. Glad you made it.
>>
>>43094045
You nod to the Voidsinger and they move to speak through the radio barking back and forth with the colony base. He turns and jumps slightly at finding you hovering, quite literally with your feet inches off the ground, over his shoulder. You could feel amusement leak from Jor at seeing such a large and intimidating alien startled by you.

The Osjiic recomposes himself, a faint sheen of Void energy shimmering around his body in the morning light, "That was a Dagger dropship. Colony lured them in when they asked for permission to dock. Command says we're the closest there and wants my...former troop to investigate, capture any survivors and transport them back to base," they hesitate then add, "They say they suspect it's the same raiders that destroyed the other camp."

"Very good," you say, drifting lazily through the air to seat yourself on your throne, spear and shield leaning against the armrests. Tapping your taloned fingertips together you ponder how to proceed with this.

Your will stretches out and a pair of Gargoyles sailing high on the wind currents bank and race toward the column of smoke rising in the distance. Two Cyclops break away from their sentries on top of the mountain cliffs and races off on all fours, the spindly undead making fast time across the uneven ground.

Your Gargoyles circle overhead as they look down on the crash sight where half of the dropship lay buried in a grassy hillside. There was a long furrow in the ground where it crashed with patches of fire still burning the grass or parts of the ship.

At first it seemed like there were no survivors but as the Cyclops station themselves in outcroppings of stone they watch as a hatch bursts out the back and the survivors fall out with a large gush of smoke. They hurriedly drag their injured from the crash as a few others drag out large crates from the wreckage.

You count eight still on their feet and three laying with injuries the others tend to. A motley mix of aliens they seemed to be. Three humans, a pair of vorh, surprisingly an Osjiic, and the remaining are strange aliens you do not recognize. Humanoid but clearly heavily modified with closefitting armor and their forearm holding what can only be weapons similar to your own creations. A human, a vorh and one of the strange aliens among the injured.

Several crack open the crates and distribute weapons while another sets up an emergency beacon that your scouts can feel pulsing with a signal aimed towards a distant mountain range.

Back at your mine the radio crackles with the colony base requesting the troops ETA.

Your troops await your orders as the hover transports are brought to life.

How shall you proceed?

The Voidsingers reports over the radio they were on their way and will report back soon. As he delivers the message half of your troops load themselves into one of the transports, Stingers, Talons, and Trolls bundled in and grouping down under their shields for cover. A single Stinger pilots the craft as you seat yourself in the passenger seat with your shield, spear and shardspitter.

Gargoyles watch your path and surroundings as the transport glides over the rough terrain following natural windcarved paths through the cliffs and mountains. With the Gargoyles providing an aerial guide you manage to make your way through the rough terrain with surprising speed. The transport starts to circle the crash-site, your troops jumping off silently and creeping through the rocks as they surround the small clearing.

Your scouts watch the band of pirates mill about the wreckage and pulling more from it as a few try to fight the fires with foam sprayers. The Osjiic wore armor but it was clearly made up of scrap and salvaged Empire armor and scanned the mountains through the scope of his heavy rifle. Their gaze passes past the Cyclopes but they jerk the weapon back, looking directly at your undead.

The pirates hear a faint crack of glass and a grunt and the Osjiic collapses, a six inch spike of bone embedded in its skull where it had passed straight through the scope. It takes them several moments to react but soon the survivors are pulling their injured and supplies back to the ship.

Another carved spine of bone embeds itself in the leg of a vorh cracking through armor and exoskeleton and a human spins and falls when a spine passes cleanly through their shoulder.

>>43095702
They scan the cliffs frantically, too distracted by the snipers that move after every shot to notice the groups of shield walls approaching them. Finally one of the strange aliens shouts out and levels their arm-mounted weapon and fires a bolt of blue energy that sizzles and transfers an extreme amount of energy and heat against the shield warping the first layer but unable to penetrate.

Soon the survivors have holed themselves up against their ship as several shield walls march steadily upon them. Your troops hold back from firing except for your snipers taking pot shots against them. Bullets and energy bolts crack against the sturdy shields and a stinger stumbles and is instantly focused upon, the body crumbling and burning under the assault.

A Troll levels its bone repeater over its shield in a specifically designed nook and the pirates recoil at the sudden hail of bone and bullets ricocheting against the stone and metal around them. As they hid behind a wall of crates and scrap your Talons break out from behind the shields and dash across the open field. The pirates pop out and take shots at your charging Talons before ducking back in to avoid fire from the Cyclops and Troll.

Talons leap over the crates and swarm over the shouting pirates, claws and fangs dragging them to the ground and separating them from each other. One of the strange pirates fights with a blade that glows white hot with heat, blasting and slicing through several Talons before several Stingers fire their whips and entangle it.

The combat is short but brutal and you float across the field with the transport. Your troops proudly look up as you near them, holding down struggling survivors that shout and curse.

Your Gargoyles and Cyclops turn their large eyes to scanning for any new-comers to the wreck, not wanting to be surprised as you introduced yourself to these new folks. Stepping off the transport you leave behind your shield but walk with your chitin spear in hand and shardspitter hanging at your hip. Talons and Stingers not holding their captives dig through crates and gather the dead, a brave Stinger heading into the still smoldering wreck.

The pirates look up at you, their faces a mix of fear, pain and defiance. The strange aliens were quite interesting and you look forward to pulling them apart to find out how they worked but for now you turn to gaze at them all in turn before speaking.

"Which of you are the leader and the technician?" you ask the simple question as several glance at the large alien that took a troll sitting on their back to hold down as they still struggled. Another of the aliens grunts and spits out what sounded like a curse in their language, a human and vorh nodding and gesturing to the two.

You nod and your spear suddenly finds itself just piercing the chest of the first human by several inches. His body withers before their eyes as you drain him through your weapon. The others struggle as you turn on each in turn, draining the life from them. The last two of the Daggers struggle valiantly against their captors but you soon have one inscribed shard in their chest.

You turn to the leader as your understanding of his curses becomes clear now that you had one of their kind in your control. The shard floats above your palm as you approach. To the surprise of both you and your troll sitting on the pirate it surges up and tosses the Troll from their back and lurches at you dragging the Stingers still attached to it, blade glowing white hot.

The pirate manages to drag the Stingers several feet as their taloned feet dig into the earth trying to swing their blade at you. The blade arcs through the air at your throat but it stops, tense in the air as the Troll grabs the tendon of the Stingers whip and pulls as well.

You clack your jaw and sigh, "How mediocre," before your fist cocks back and pummels the smooth hooked helm, denting it as they collapse to the ground. You nudge the still form with your foot, the blade cooling with a sizzle against the grass now that the pirate was knocked out.

Stooping you quickly embed the shard into a crease of its armor where neck met chest, realizing the armor was covering a natural exoskeleton like the Vorh but thicker.

With that little tantrum finished you stand, brushing the dust from yourself as your soldiers present their findings.

As the other transport is summoned and guided by a Gargoyle you turn your attention to where you hear a voice squawking over the emergency beacon. You can hear the aliens coarse language which you have no trouble understanding now that you have a pair of them in your control.

"Beacon received. Osjiic forces at colony, noted. Shot down, noted. Injured no casualties, noted. Land transport on their way from base, estimated time, three hours. Hold position if possible."

It seemed the beacon couldn't work as a radio only sending pre-recorded messages. How primitive. Nonetheless you have it loaded onto your transport. It may come in use.

Your transport was on its way to help ferry back the loot and would be there in less than an hour.

What shall you do?

You decide it best to take your gains back to base instead of risking them for an ambush against a foe you know little about. The first transport is loaded and soon drifting back to base, passing the empty one.

The rest of the loot of bodies and supplies are loaded along with the rest of your troops and you depart. A lone cyclops and a pair of Gargoyles remain in the air watching the charred husk of the ship.

Your Gargoyles hear a roar of an engine as you arrive at your base and they spy an armored transport stop at the top of a nearby cliff, your Cyclops tucking itself into a crevice as the flying scouts watch.

They arrived much sooner than they had on the beacon for some reason.

A hatch opens up top and one of the strange pirates lifts a device to its eyes and scans the area before smacking the hull and pointing at the wreck. The missile pod atop the transport swivels and a trio of missiles streak through the air and impact the ship and hillside around it reducing it to a smoking crater. The pirate scans the crater and the surrounding area before ducking back into the transport and it starts to rumble away.

Your two Gargoyles soar high to avoid detection as they track the armored transport rumbling across the mountains.

Back at the base your troops unload the looted scrap and supplies, bodies laid out for eventual reconstruction. Jor and the other enslaved wait by the mines exit awaiting your commands. The Osjiic Commander scowls at the pirates but remains silent.

The Voidsinger glances at the two enslaved pirates as they're taken inside to wait for their awakening as he approaches you. Bowing his head to you, "Looks like the foray was a success. Base wants to know our status," he says, standing with hands clasped behind his back. You were impressed by how easily the Voidsinger adjusted to viewing you as his commander.

Tapping your chin you think for a moment before replying, "Located the crash. There were no survivors. Ship detonated upon landing. Do apologize to them for the delay. Don't want them getting suspicious," you say and the Voidsinger nods, moving to the radio to relay the message.

With your two captives still unconscious you turn to their fallen comrades. With in the Cauldron room with Talons and Stingers murmuring and chanting hymns in the language of the Wormstar as you lower the first of the corpses into the churning liquid.

Their form comes apart easily and you sift through their assorted parts. You realize quickly their bodies were heavily modified surgically and genetically. You wonder if they even know what their original form was. You notice the waters churn and bubble more violently but you move on, depositing the second corpse into the pit.

Their exoskeleton was much like your own creations but denser while remaining lightweight. Their exoskeleton supported by a crude skeleton meeting at the joints. They seem adapted to excel in low and zero-gravity environments, bodies designed airtight along with their armor.

The third corpse is lowered and you feel the Cauldrons current grow harsher and you hear an acidic hiss. You pull back from the Cauldron but where you had plunged in two hands only one half-dissolved hand emerges, the stump of your wrist hissing. It would appear the aliens had a potent acidic failsafe against dissection. How annoying.

Clacking your jaw disappointment you shrug. This would be inconvenient for sure.

>Gained upgrade: Passive bonus to the armor of constructs with new knowledge of chitin armor creation
>Lost 1 hand, negative to combat (Will regrow in time)
>>
>>43097545
You would have to wait for the acidity to reduce before you can create any more soldiers but you use the potency to melt down metals somewhat faster as your reconstructed dump armloads of scrap.

Looking at the stump where your hand once was you wonder if you should drain a few of the living to speed up the regrowth but you are distracted as you feel the two Dagger pirates awaken in confusion. They collapse once more as you activate the shards inside them, pleased that they reacted like every other creature had to such blinding agony.

Letting them stew longer as they twisted and cried out in their empty stone room you stand at the entrance watching them. Releasing the curse of pain they drop to the ground, gasping through spiracles situated around their neck base.

They glance up at you and immediately the commander lifts the arm that once held a blaster only to blink at the bloody wound where it had been carved from their exoskeleton.

You shake your head in disappointment and it falls to the ground as its body contorts with the cramping pain. Instead you turn your gaze to the one that labeled itself as the technician, "Good behavior is rewarded while insubordination... well you saw what happened to your other comrades. I have some questions for you if you would be so kind to answer them for me,"

The tech look at their former officer then at you, nodding their head, "Noted."

What do you ask them?
>>

Where did you come from and how many others are there?
There's already been a ship which came looking for you, anything I should know about or prepare for?
>>

What are you? What is your race? Ask them about of fellows and former empire. Ask them about their tech and the principals behind it. Ask if they swore fealty to anyone.

>>
>>43097791
Ask if they know about Jadyk, the Wormstar, the Armada, etc. See if their race knows our history.
>>
>>43097791
Letting the pirate struggle against the shard that sends bolts of pain shooting through them periodically you turn your attention to the tech.

"First things first, what is the name of your race and the faction you swear fealty to," you start off simply.

Glancing at the person twitching next to them they slowly move to their feet. They were slightly shorter than you at nearly seven feet. They make no move to attack and you sense their defeat and fear of the pain, "Our race are the Netu. We're part of the Dagger clan. Most call us pirates, we call it survival and scavenging."

You find the distinction a subtle but important one, nodding, "Understandable. Tell me about your clan and the numbers they have here on this world. I heard and saw your beacon and their answer. They also bombarded your ship shortly after we took you, didn't even attempt rescue or investigation."

The tech nods, "Standard protocol. Lies sooth worries of injured and non-Netu. Most likely believe captured or dead, will not attempt true rescue," they reach up and touch the rough scab where the shard was embedded between exoskeletal plates, "Enslaved, captured. Slave debt. Will answer truthfully. Camp is fortified. Dropship refueling station. Barracks of soldiers. Patrols in the mountains on skiffs and armor transport. Clanship not due for two weeks. Laying low after encounters with Osjiic Empire. They shot us down, did they not?" you nod, "Of course," they grumble.

"Tell me if these names are familiar to you," you look down to the panting officer who lay recovering from the agony treatment and launch into asking them about yourself and your former allegiances.

You watch as the Gargoyles circles over a canyon where the transport returned to base. Three dropships like the one shot down by the colony rest on platforms near a refueling plant and troops moving between several buildings and the plasteel walls of the compound. A pair of outposts sit on either side of the canyon.

So, let's sick the pirates on the soldiers. While they go out we can take over the fortified base, and kill them when they return

Damn it I'm late.

The pirates glance at each other and the tech answers, "Grand Necrotic Armada is legend among Netu homeworlds. Netu helped break their fleets with our ancients. Lightdrinker devoured a world in anger before disappearing. Wormstar shattered and silent, no more singing, only whispering. Jadyk defeated and slain, that loss leading to defeat of first fleets and eventual success of Alliance of Planets. Netu given several systems to rebuild for thanks. Systems charred husks, graveyards."

You would frown if you had flesh. You had hoped your absence wasn't the catalyst to the fall of the Armada but it appeared the loss of your fleet and the Wormstar helped turn the battle. Clacking your jaw you look to the two, "Jadyk is no longer dead and imprisoned. I have returned to regain my power and you two will help me."

You point to the tech with your remaining hand where the chitin and muscle had burned away, "You will help me understand your technology," you point at the officer, "You will tell me off the base. Please me and prove you are worth more to me alive than as corpses."

The tech helps explain the fundamentals behind their arm blasters and thermal blades. Their blasters, remarkably, were solar charged, deploying a fin that could absorb both artificial and natural light to charge a crystalline core to focus blasts of thermal energy. Their blades were a polymer of metal and plasteels that heat up when energy is fed into them and you believe you could replicate with chitin and bone.

>Gained knowledge of Blasters and Thermal Blades, can replicate with Cauldron once it "calms down"

The officer is quite willing to share the information of the base now that you impressed the pains you could inflict and after the tech reminded it of their clans concept of Slave Debt. Captured soldiers must willingly serve as their captors slaves for a year and a half. Mostly used between pirate clans.

Base:
>Anti-Air
>Long-range sensors
>Full barracks: 40
>3 Dropships
>>
>>43098322
The officer reveals the patrol routes will likely change to prevent this very situation but he tells you them anyways. You shrug it off, the Gargoyles seeming to be immune to the sensors of the base or just passed for local wildlife.

Only one pirate had taken a potshot at a gargoyle with a rifle but misses. Even from that distance you can hear the laughter of the other pirates as they jeer the soldier for missing such an easy shot.

The Osjiic Commander approaches you with Jor carrying a crate of homemade grenades. He shows you the samples he had made and you nod in satisfaction. Unlike your other minions you only feel disgust from the once proud commander instead of pride at your approval.

>Gained Smoke Grenades for replication
>Gained signal flares for replication

You let the day pass-by as you learn from your new captives and speak with the others. Jor and the miners were hard at work maintaining the steady flow of ore for the Cauldron and to keep up appearances with the colony. You tell Jor to call you by Lord Jadyk and he naturally falls into the habit. You sense the other miners react with some disgust but they knew it wise to keep you appeased. You start to wonder if you even needed to keep so many miners around with the mine mostly automated.

The Osjiic keep themselves busy distracting the Colony base and tending to the sensors and maintaining weaponry.

After the lessons from the Netu tech where they had splayed open their devices to show the inner workings you head to the Cauldron room to check on the bubbling pit. Satisfied after a Talon dips in a claw and removes it looking cleaner than before but undamaged you dip your hand and stump into the liquid.

What do you do?
>Build troops, what and how many?
>Recreate weapons/imprint Cauldron

To speed the regrowth of your hand you can drain the life of a living creature, do you wish to do so?

If you mean the new armor upgrade it's a passive upgrade that will affect all types of existing troops. All it takes is a quick dip in the cauldron which they'll do behind the scenes.
>>
>>43098663
Do our units regularly go swimming in our cauldron while we're not around?
>>
>>43098544
Your Talons soon bring home several struggling cliff-jumpers and you eagerly drain their life force and toss the limp corpses into the pit with your stump. Feeling the rush of the Cauldron and the growth of bone you glance at your skeletal hand and nod in satisfaction.

The remains of the blasters are tossed into the cauldron along with the thermal blades and you pick them apart to get a more hands-on feel for them. Soon the Cauldron's gifts are once again boosted.

>Created Necroflenser
>By recreating a version of the Netu solar charged crystals with a necrotic powered version you've created a weapon that focuses the latent necrotic energy within your reconstructed troops and focuses it into a charged beam of necrotic energy that deals mostly thermal damage. Must recharge between shots and not as damaging as physical ammunition but has near limitless ammunition. Cost 2M

>Discovered passive upgrade: Thermal weapons
>Natural attacks and melee weapons now glow with thermal energy that increases the attacks of Claws, Sting Whips, Melee Weapons, and Bayonets

>New Grenade types
>Smokescreen: Creates a thick obscuring cloud of black smoke that hampers sight and to a degree thermal sensors.
>Flare: A brightly burning signal flare used as a signal and to mark locations

With those new upgrades you turn your sight to improving your numbers once again.

New Troop Totals:
>Talons: 44
>Cyclops: 10
>Stingers: 30
>Gargoyles: 6
>Trolls: 10 (all ranged, two with melee weapons)
>Enslaved Minions: 3 Human miners, 1 Osjiic Voidsinger, 1 Osjiic Commander, 1 Dagger Engineer, 1 Dagger Commander
>1 Osjiic Zombie

Equip Gargoyles with Smoke Grenades?

THey do actually. They think Jadyks doesn't notice but he lets them have their fun.

But in all seriousness yes they do. Injured Reconstructed will take a dip to repair injuries and resupply or swap out weapons.
>>
>>43098917
Equip 2 gargoyles with smoke grenades and 4 with explosive grenades.
Build 10 necroflensers and equip them to 10 talons.
>>
>>43098917
I should add that Necroflensers damage will go up the more there are firing at the same target. They are rather similar to 40k Lasguns in that they excel in groups targeting single targets

Talons are called in and they submerge themselves, arising with their claws glowing orange with heat and a short bone casing on their forearms that pulses with a sickly brownish-green light.

As the night goes on you watch as your forces submerge and reemerge, empowered and strengthened. Even your own spear's tip glows white and shimmers with heat.

Thanks for the run, I was in the first thread but didn't find the quest again until today, spent most of it catching up with the archive (You should link them in the OP).

Really enjoy the setting.

Oh yeah good point. I'll make sure to do that next time
Glad you're enjoying it. I'm kinda winging it with some of it lol
