Well, I had the following system in mind.
With diminishing gains, how many dungeons you have in your territory increases the value of the coins they drop.

This encourages kingdoms to having lots of dungeons, which remember, are anti-error traps, so it seemed like a good idea to the gods.

However past a certain point you get almost nothing from it, so countries arent too interested in warring for territory and such.

the army divisions thing is something WE did. Also, I assume that people prefers to pay their taxes with ugly worn off coins, and plenty of magic rituals consume coins so they go "back into the ether" all the time.

Need to build new road? fix old road? craft skill consumes materials, and the fovernment usually just spends money worth as much.

So the coins come and go, I dont see a problem, except for we sending troops to get lots of coins now.

For common materials like wood and stone of [Common] quality I think a 10%-15% increase to do it by coins is fair. Better materials like steel and good concrete are 25% more, and increases in quality level increases cost by 10%.
But there should be a limit, that you can only replace actual materials with gold coins up to a certain quality level/material.
Like you can't get [Runic] quality materials, nor can you get materials like orihalcum, adamantium, or Gems, with just coins.

"Hmmm" -Aritsu cooes softly as she and Eldric share a good morning kiss.

As such, Lyann chooses hers and Eldric's best, most official looking clothing. Aritsu, of coursem has her royal gown and robes, so she is quite covered in that sense.

"Well, we still have until about noon, right?" -Lyann pulls aside the small courtain covering the port hole window (they are in a ship, after all)
"Y-yes?!" -cries Aritsu sweetly as Eldric moves over her from behind during their morning shower.

Lyann nods, and joins them.

Some time later, the group is enjoying a light breakfast while talking in the mess hall.

And so, we head back to the ship, and begin our trip further south, bearing the baron's flag on the ship to notify patrols we are traveling with permission, as well as the proper documents.

Once the technology is widespread enough, a simple call will probably be enough, but despite our best efforts, long range communications still require both speakers to be members of the same party.

That evening after diner, Eldric nocks softly at Mako's door.

One of the shadows (we think it's Ami, probably) opens the door, and smiles at us.

The shadow steps aside and lets Eldric into the room.

Mako is sitting on the bed while a shadow kneels in front of her, holding her hands some distance away so the princess can knit with it.
