Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
His heartbeat. It’s strong, regular still, but slow. He’ll live but it pains you to see. You awoke two days ago, the worst of your injuries being a bruised leg and face, some cuts and scrapes, and a missing canine tooth from a boot planted into your jaw. The tooth was lost amongst the field you assumed and had sent for a silver replacement to be made. It had been fitting this morning and still felt odd in your mouth, your tongue runs over it, senstive still and you leave it be. However, Mason was in a far worse state. He had held his own against Ser Preston Greenfield, but your own reckless actions had left your old friend alone for too long, mind bent on revenge, you tore into Ser Crastor Paege, a man you did not know. And soundly beat out the two Greenfield brothers, but you were simply too late to stop a finishing blow from the Kingsguard man that rung Mason so thoroughly he had yet to wake. Maester Benjin insisted he simply needed the time to rest, that any restlessness should be drowned out by milk of the poppy. But it still ill contented you.

Any time you were away Elionwy had remained at his side, brushing his hair from the nasty head wound he had sustained, just over the scar that already marred his face, and sitting in her quiet way hoping to see him awake. You could not read the Myrish woman, she did not seem to regard you with disdain, only a sadness. It was an odd thing, you often felt she could not be trusted, she was still Varys’ pet you remembered, but the care she exuded towards Mason spoke to something else. A guilt hung upon your heart for it. Victus would occasionally sit with you, asking when Mason would wake up, he was like a second father to the boy, and your son would read his prayers to the Knight, hoping. Solhas and the other Sons would take turns guarding his room, it distressed you that Illiad, Sallo Rhod and Asher were away now, it felt like you were at half strength, and you were in no condition to fight either.
>>
You hear a cough and it shakes idle thoughts from your head, Mason turns a moment and you take a damp cloth and place it upon his head. His eyes open slightly to the action and he licks his lips with a certain feebleness. He regards you from half lidded eyes and groans a moment attempting to shift, you push him back down, holding him firm, “Mason don’t, you aren’t in any condition,” you whisper forcefully.

Your friend groans again and in defeat shifts his arm to his jaw, scratching at the fuzzy that had grown in his slumber before responding with a hoarse voice, “Seven be damned Brynden, I feel like your horse his kicked my head in.”

You laugh a bit, mood cheered by Mason still being himself, but guilt still panged in your heart, “Mason I’m sorry I… I shouldn’t have, I dont-” you stutter out, hoping to apologize as you had a hundred times to his catatonic body prior.

‘Don’t Brynden. Just… Don’t. I know you,” he coughs again and you reach for water tipping it to his lips and he relishes in it before continuing, “Remember when we first met?”

You did, it was mere days after Lysa had been murdered, you remember cradling her head in your arms, her eyes rolled back, chestnut hair rolling about your arms stained from your tears. You were attempting to sell Goldsong to the Second Sons, you would have enough gold to return home, but you were looking for more, to outfit yourself with the most vicious poisons you could find. Revenge had been born in your heart and you were intent on finding the bastard responsible. Mason stopped you. Calmed you, he noticed Victus in your arms, the horse you were attempting to sell, he saw desperation. And from that he convinced the Second Sons to hire you on, and you left the day after. Never granted revenge, but instead burying it in wine, women and death. He had been the voice in your ear of cautious actions and as you grew you heeded his advice, tempered yourself, but in the Melee, you forgot.
>>
You nod to his words and his hand slips from his cheek to yours, “I know you Brynden. You always spoke of revenge. But I know it is not born of vice. It is born of love. You loved Lysa. You loved Isis,” he coughs again and it feels pained this time and he settles again, his eyes closing and opening for a moment, “You love your family and those that become of close. You turned heel when Ser Lucas and I were over matched. In your heart you still knew purpose beyond driven rage. I can’t feel ill will towards you for that.”

In response you felt a tear well in your eye, even in the face of death Mason still saw your issues as the more important, no regard for his own health. You had done him a great disservice. It struck at you how he might have died had you kept to your warpath. A thought that spoke to the grander scheme of things between yourself and House Redward.

“Brynden. What else happened in the melee?” he asks hoping to turn subject, “Is Eli around? Seven she’s going to hide me… Those damn eyes of hers, she speaks more than you’d believe Brynden.”

A small smile forms on your lips again, tinged with the salt of a tear rolled down, your eyes cast to a letter from Lady Chelsted and her intention to visit this afternoon, the vial of milk of the poppy next to it. Benjin would insist he rested and you attend your soon to be guests, but at the same time you did not wish to leave your old friend’s side.

>Tell him of the melee and summon Elionwy?
>Enough for now, allow Mason to rest

>>Enough for now, allow Mason to rest

He may be awake but he's not out of the woods yet and dammit we're not losing him after all this and as long as Reward isn't involved Dontos can temper us
>>
Guys. Let him get some sleep so he can be fresh to hear everything.
>>
>>43070779
Alright fine, changing vote, >>43070516
>>
I feel legitimately bad about Mason. I think he's the Ned to our Robert, and damn it we let him down there.
>>
>>43070943
He seems to actually get Brynden unlike Dontos who just yells at a brickwall
>>
You shake your head push Mason back further into his bed, “Both can wait Mason. You’re alive and awake but not out of the woods yet. I won’t lose you, not like this.”

He smiles upon cracked lips and you reach for the milk of the poppy and go to feed it to his lips, “I despise poppy Brynden,” he says in defiance before drinking to it.

“You’re as stubborn as my Uncle, Mason, drink,” you respond and he takes the rest of the measured amount his body beginning to slack again.

“Tell me one thing before I… Fall back asleep, Brynden, did Ser Preston win?”

“No Mason, he did not, eliminated the very next round.”

Your Knight seems contented by this and lips the words, “Good, bastard,” before slipping back into sleep. You move his sheets and pillows about a bit assuring his comfort and replace the cloth upon his head with a new one before standing, meeting Ser Haigh’s eyes, as he looks in from the door. They don’t speak to laughter, the faintest traces of smile does not even dance upon his lips and you nod to him, a gesture he returns, “Victor, send Lorry off to find Lady Elionwy, no doubt she’ll want to know Mason is at least waking now.”

“Of course my Lord,” he responds stiffly and gestures to his young squire who scampers off and coming to rest with arms crossed across his breast plate, “I’ve never seen Mason like this Brynden. He’s the toughest bastard I know.”

“In the most literal of senses Victor,” you respond and he cracks a bit with a glimmer of a smile, “Let the rest of the Sons know he’s come to when you get off guard duty, they’ll be happier for it.”
>>
You leave off after that, finding yourself in your room to clean up and dress a bit better for Lady Chelsted. You had expected a Lord given her previous summons but was informed by Dontos of the late Lord Qarlton’s demise at the hands of the Mad King, a topic best avoided you thought. Now she was the Lady of Chelsted, and lead the House until her young son came of age to properly do so, a boy Victus’ age you were told. One of the villa’s pages find you in your room informing you of the arrival of the Lady and her small retinue, and you leave off to meet them in a small room dedicated to private luncheons.

Benjin has already arrived and is speaking to the young Lord of the House, and a Knight of House Chyttering if you are remembering your heraldry right, both neighbors of yours. Dontos had wished to attend as well, but as it happens he was out at the Great Sept with Victus at the moment, a small issue but nothing major. The Lady Chelsted stands by the window and regards you fully when you enter, crossing the room, her hands folded over her midsection, taking one and offering it to you in a curtsey, “My Lord Brynden Malroy, it is a pleasure to meet you.”

You take the offered hand and bow to kiss it, a light sign of respect, “The pleasure is all mine my Lady..?”

“Alexes Chelsted, Lady of Chelsted. And my son, Rodner Chelsted, it’s Lord. Accompanying me is Ser Cyrus Chyttering. A Knight of my Household.”

Regarding each in turn you can see a look of displeasure upon Ser Cyrus’ face and how he keeps Rodner’s attention to himself, though failing often when Benjin spoke to the young Lord. You take a seat alongside your Maester and summon a simple lunch while you spoke with your guests.
>>
Lady Chelsted hardly broaches the topic of her husband outside of clarifying she was his second cousin, and Rodner being their second son, the elder boy having perished in King’s Landing during the Sack. She has been ruling the Chelsted lands in the interim to the best of her abilities, with Rodner occasionally helping though to little success as of yet. Before long you gather their situation is no less dire than your own, slightly less worse off, their debt to the Crown being unpaid, but it being a lesser sentence due to the loss of her husband. Ser Cyrus occasionally remarks of his own House, that they are thriving in this new environment, and are ready to aid the Chelsted’s in any regard.

Benjin casts you a look of knowing and you clue in to his thoughts, Ser Cyrus was courting the widowed Lady Alexes, she was hardly outside of child rearing age. The Chyttering’s connections to the Crown would only strengthen them, and such a marriage would essentially bond the two Houses as one. You were unsure of whether or not to dislike this thought or not.

“My Lord, while words of recent history are topics of some note, I did not come to you today to speak of such. Rather something of more import, of the recent,” Lady Alexes begins after a while broaching the true topic of your interest, “This upstart, Lord Royce Redward. His lands have begun to bleed over into my local populace, his lack of a firm hand allows lawlessness to thrive, and I begin to worry for my smallfolk.”

Ser Cyrus interrupts, “It was not a month prior to the Tourney I led the Chelsted Knights andmy own House against a smattering of the outlaws myself, crushing the criminals. But I doubt it did much. The only sigil’s of note were this, a dead House,” he hands you a small pin, one of House Darklyn. And suddenly your mind begins to turn, a match to the words of Ser Bor.

Hah. Well i think we could maybe offer her son to squire for Dontos intill he comes of age.
>>
>>43071283

But be diplomatic about it.

Squire for us, we're the Lord, it would be more prestige for the lad. but after we've won her trust.
>>
>>43071427
>Squire for us, we're the Lord, it would be more prestige for the lad. but after we've won her trust.

We are not a knight anon. So we cant actually have squires and Dontos "Black Knight" Malroy is much more of an impressive teacher in melee combat than us.
>>
>>43071457

We should add "Get Knighted" to the to do list.
>>
>>43071552
But we dont even know how to Joust properly!
>>
>>43071565

Well, we have Armour Mastery, Fighting 4, and Animal Handling 3 (+1 for Horses- Animal Cohort) We're not ace, but we could be a knight. There are worse knights in westeros.
>>
>>43071713
But Brynden would be a terrible influence. He'd be whoring and hanging out with shady Essosi sellswords before the year is out.
>>
>>43071726

Well, we could, maybe stop whoring, or at least cut back a little.

Wow, wow, wow. Lets not get crazy anon
>>
You sit back and finger at the pin, turning it over a few times examining the make of it. It was a cheap thing, the red had all but chipped out and it looked hastily made at best. Placing it down on the table Ser Cyrus looks to you with an odd look unsure of your thoughts before turning attentions aware, disliking the emerald glare in return.

“In this man alive, Ser Cyrus?”

“No my Lord. Slain by my own hand and strung up along with the rest.”

You tsk, the man was a warrior, and to a degree a dullard. He saw no reason to keep prisoners for questions and likely spoke highly of honor this and honor that. Your Uncle would love him. You lean back and interlace your fingers regarding the Lady Alexes once more.

“A topic that concerns me as well Lady Alexes, months prior I received a bagful of my smallfolks heads, a horse crudely carved into their face. I tracked the raiders to Hemgrove, north of my lands and found a Knight by the name of Ser Bor leading them. Some months after his imprisonment in my castle’s dungeons he spoke to receiving his instructions from a ‘Knight’ using the House Darklyn sigil, likely the same one I see before me,” you say, Lady Alexes has covered her mouth at the mention of the gruesome gift you received and Ser Cyrus is glowering at the sigil, suddenly regretting killing the man.

“No doubt that bastard Redward hired someone to do the work!” he shouts suddenly, Rodner jumping in his seat, and staring wide eyed at the Knight, “We should combine our forces now, and march on them. Surely such actions defile the King’s Law!”
>>
“And upon whose word Ser Cyrus?” you respond, keeping your vice level and calm, “Your only witness is dead, hung in some tree and mine on his way to the Wall by now. We have no proof beyond spoken word, and a broken pin.”

Lady Alexes speaks, having taken to stroking Rodner’s head and covering his ears, flashing glances of disdain towards Ser Cyrus throughout, “Lord Brynden is right Ser Cyrus, despite your House’s ‘connections’ to the Crown it would only serve us so far. They could very well call to question our own actions, breaking the King’s Law.”

“And then we would have House Redward, Langward and Blount to contend with, and perhaps the Crown itself,” you add, gaining a strained look from Ser Cyrus, “The latter two have entered a marriage my Lord. And I have reason to believe the Langwards are aiding the Redwards as well. I ill like those odds Ser.”

Cyrus goes to speak again and is suddenly silence by Lady Alexes’ look and he slumps back defeated, “My Lord. If it is alright by you may Ser Cyrus show my son your horses? He does so love to watch them,” she asks, and you nod quickly to rid yourself of the Knight. Benjin goes to rise with them and Rodner takes his hand, having taken a particular liking to the elder man and his words, Cyrus following after.

You watch Lady Alexes deflate a moment and apply pressure to her temples, “He is as chivalrous a Knight as you will ever meet my Lord. But far too impulsive for my own tastes, it was my husband that liked him.” Laughing a moment you pick at your food again and she regards you entirely, sure of Ser Cyrus being out of earshot, “My Lord, I would see our mutual… Problem shall we say, done with. I do not doubt Lord Royce is behind this but from all accounts I have heard is a dullard of the highest caliber, such a plot is not his own work, but someone else’s. And I cannot act upon a feeling, not with a House such as yourself.”
>>
You nod and frown a moment at the last phrase, “And you mean by that my Lady?”

She ruffles slightly and settles again attempting to be diplomatic in her words, “You are… Rash, my Lord. The rumors that speak to you in the courts tell of a man with more Essosi in him than Westerosi, taking to their culture. They speak of your actions in the melee, you looked a man possessed, fighting like some savage. I simply cannot ally with a House with such leadership.”

You’re taken aback a bit, her boldness was entirely unexpected and before you can respond she cuts you off continuing.

“However… Your, Uncle, Ser Dontos was it? He is a man of true resolve. A true Knight in every regard and… Unmarried.”

You continue in silence, and realize what she is implying. The Lady Chelsted seemed more aware of Ser Cyrus’ attempts than you had thought. But in the back of your mind a thought niggled and it sent worry. Dontos would not be happy. Your father never spoke of why your Uncle remained unmarried despite being a fantastic match for any young lady but you always had a suspicion of his… Desires.

“My Lady, I cannot speak for my Uncle in this regard,” you begin attempting to find word.

“I would not expect you to my Lord. Instead I would speak to the man himself, perhaps in a few months time, I understand you are holding a Melee? Such an invitation would surely fester seeds of worry into our ‘problems’ mind, no?” she says smiling and folding her hands over her stomach again.

There it was, a simply request, more private word, more time to gather details and speak further to it later. Lady Alexes was a smart woman, she simply needed the people to influence.

>Publically invite House Chelsted and House Chyttering to your Melee
>Privately invite them
>Do not invite them

I'm feeling rather wordy today apparently. Sorry about the delays guys.
>>
>>43071859
I think he's told us one drunken night that he's gay.
>Privately invite them
Discuss this with Dontos, he probably won't say yes, but there's a chance.
>>
>>43071859
>>Publically invite House Chelsted and House Chyttering to your Melee
Why do it privately?
>>
>>43071859
>>Privately invite them

Doesnt matter if doesnt like it. It would be for the good of our house. It would cement our position with our neighbours and bring us one step closer to justice. Uncle has been lecturing us on how to behave and what to do in order to bring glory and honour to our house. Now it is high time he does something himself that is more than swinging a sword.

All he has to do is lay on his back and think of Steadhold.
>>
>>43071859

Oh man this is going to be hysterical, Dontos will be thrilled.

>>Privately invite them

She probably knows about Ser Dontos and his "Desires" and wants to make sure her son will stay heir.

Find out if she suspects about Dontos by asking if she desires more children.
>>
>>43071941
Hell he doesn't even have to consummate it really. Just become "Lord Protector" of Chelsted, make sure that Rodner stays heir, and keeps the Chyterrings from pretty much swallowing up the Chelsteds. She knows what's she's doing.
>>
>>43071859
>Privately invite them

>>43071909
Doesn't matter. He can marry and fuck the gardener or stable boy or whoever the fuck he cares. As long as it is to the benefit of the house.
>>
>>43072101

I don't think Dontos does anybody, he might be a confirmed bachelor but he's probably chaste. Given his age and being unwed, it's probably something of a open secret. Which is probably why she wants him over us.

>>43071977

After all we're way hotter.
>>
>>43071859
>Privately invite them
If we invite them publicly, Royce and his allies may start to amp up in response. Better to keep quiet until an alliance can be hammered out
>>
>>43072008
And if it is really a problem we can consummate the wedding ourselves if we have to.
>>
You clear your throat and press on, a small bit of you was offended, but at the same time you saw her reasoning. As of right now Dontos was the more desirable match to the local populace, you were still in your youth, a ‘sellsword playing at Lord’. The thought raised anger in your heart, Ser Preston would pay for that someday, “My Lady, I would see your House and that of you Ser Cyrus’ attend, however I think it ill advised to make such a show of it now.”

She inclines her head surprised at your reaction, and this time you speak before she can.

“A thought, in private word you may attend with minimal fanfare, as I build the guestbook of my Melee you will be among the many, and suddenly word of a Melee of more than expected size occurs. A ‘problem’ may suddenly act out to such a large show of power from his respective neighbors, a slight goading perhaps?”

A smile creeps upon Lady Alexes’ face, she understood and suddenly words of your rash nature seemed incorrect, you were capable of planning in the long term, of broad strokes of masterful precision, they simply needed a moment longer to form, amide the smaller taps of paint upon canvas, “Of course my Lord. A good thought. I will be sure to be private in my words of your Melee then.”
>>
“Very well my Lady,” you respond and bite into a date finishing your major actions for the day. You speak of small things with Lady Alexes, of her son Rodner, he is squiring for Ser Cyrus at the moment, for lack of a better alternative at present and she ill liked sending him even a league away from home. When asked of her concern for future children she says nothing and without a beat changes the topic to that of your horses having rounded into the yard. the young Lord Rodner is riding upon a pony, with Brenton your stable hand leading him along, much to the boy’s delight. Thinking of no better way to endear the boy to yourself you gift the mare to him and he squeals with joy, having never owned his horse. Ser Cyrus flashes a look of further dislike and Lady Alexes takes the joys in her son’s.

A short time later you bid them off and find yourself alone among the stables, brushing Goldsong carefully, your Lordly attire placed to the side, your old friend pushes into the attention, happy for it. He had seen a life of studding since your return home, no longer a horse of war, and for that you took some happiness, he was gaining in years and had survived the worst of it in Essos under your hand, he deserved the break. Gawen suggested you take a new horse in the coming year, one of his offspring and the thought always bounced about your head as you rode the golden courser.
>>
-Two Days Later-

Riding into the city for one of the final events you find yourself keeping company with Ser Lucas Longwaters and Lady Racheal Conklyn, the latter escorting you to her Lord father in the grandstand. Lord Argor Conklyn was a sturdy man you found, with a bushy mustache, and he attended your presence with a certain glee, inviting you to the seat next to him, your new Knight and his quarrel behind.

“My Lord Brynden, it ails me to see so little of your Horses amongst the competitions,” he says feeding a horn of ale to his lips before continuing, “I was told your family once had a sporting horse herd of some renown though I have always known your coursers for their uses in war and the golden ones as princely gifts.”

Watching a spotted horse clear a hurdle with ease you lean in to speak with the man, “Lost I’m afraid my Lord. The rebellion saw many of my family’s horses either taken in payment, or used in lieu of proper horse.”

“A disappointing thing to return home to I am sure my Lord,” he finishes and claps for the spotted horse finishing its turn of the course with simple ease, “A fine horse no doubt, I may need to find to whom it is owned… Speaking of my Lord. If it is all the same to you, perhaps, we may speak of topics of a more serious nature than the mere pleasantries of Horse flesh?”

>Talk business with Lord Argor Conklyn?
>Not today, perhaps pay more attention to the horses on the lists

>>43072178

A sporting herd is a bit of a luxury we cannot afford at the moment. When we have a sound economy, a strong powerbase, and no immediate threats I can see investing into something like that.

A hamlet up and running sounds really good.
>>
Also. Goldsong is getting laaaaaaaid
>>
>>43072418
>invite Obella

Not a great idea if we want to shed the Essosi Sellsword image, and it might cost us some influence with the local houses we'll be hosting- perhaps arrange to meet her in Dorne?

Maybe even visit House Qorgyle with her a host while there? Might be worth discussing with Jon Arryn.
>>
>>43072538

All day every day. Let me tell you what, that is one happy horse.

We will just invite her to the villa under that pretext in order to talk to her a bit more then.

And lets not shelf the whole Sellsword thing just yet. Atleast not completly.
>>
>>43072565

I think we should keep a bit of Essosi Sellsword flavour it might make us more enticing to other Lords, but we need to make sure we're seen as one of them. Familiar, with a little bit of the exotic.

>>
He spoke of business, of coinage, hardly something you could deny, any House willing to deal with yours was one more than you had before. In a thought it occurred to you that the more formal invitation was sent after your winning of the Archery Contest, a sudden ascension would no doubt be of interest to the smaller Reach House, especially one that knew your Horses. In generations passed your golden coursers were prized as far west as Casterly Rock and as far South as Highgarden, both speaking to their Lord’s charges. It was something that still remained, you had noted the horses stolen from your family were being used amongst the Lannister ranks when they would Joust and it burned at you in a deeply seeded way.

“Of course my Lord, I am always in interest of matters of horse, particularly of a serious nature,” you respond and he waggles his mustache in acknowledgement, happy for it.

“If you would then my Lord Malroy, please do watch the next horse with an interested eye,” he responds and turns to the field, placing his horn of ale down.
>>
Curious you watch the white horse march proudly out onto the field, a radiant white, well postured, its temperament kept, his rider a small man outfitted in House Conklyn colors. He starts the course with ease, vaulting the hurdles, quick on its feet to turns only turning up a small bit of dirt, his movements precise. Lord Argor interrupts a few moments, speaking to the lineage of the horse, his pedigree. One of the best that House Conklyn had to offer, and the man upon him his eldest son, though fourth child. The boy finishes the course and is awarded a fantastic score, placing them in first for the moment. You clap alongside Lord Argor who has taken to a standing applause, happily whooping for his son. Sitting again, he takes a deep swig from his horn and turns to you again, “My Lord, I would speak to you of something of a… Trade, perhaps? Your Uncle, Ser Dontos Malroy, showed the entirety of King’s Landing the worth of your war horses, I see the blood is still strong with them and you are less than out as expected. In response I wished for you to see the standards to which I hold my Sporting Herd.”

You thought a moment, taking a sip of your wine, watching the next horse come out onto the field, a black thing with lumbering movement, “A trade of stud for stud then I imagine my Lord Argor?”

“Of a sort my Lord Brynden. No doubt we would each need to front coinage on either side for such an action regardless,” he says, with a small chuckle as the black horse misses the first vault and stumbles afterwards. And there was the business deal, evaluating the inherent worth of each herd, and thus your payments to the other. It was entirely possible to come out even on both ends but pushing for a better deal would benefit you, even if slightly. Considering a while longer this time you watch the field disperse for the second round of the course, only horses making a certain pointage being able to return roughly 20 in this case, Lord Argor's son among them.

In essence.
>Gain -2 Wealth Discount to Sporting Horse Herd
>Receive a payment of 2 Wealth for your War Horse Herd
>Zero sum gain

You can alternatively push for your Herd to be worth more, 3 say, with some bargaining. Or push for the discount to be greater, with some bargaining as well. Lord Argor would also desire to push for such.

>Bargain with Lord Conklyn
>Decline his offer for now, you’ve no need of a Sporting Horse Herd

I would rather build a Artisan leatherworker and a Artisan Weaponsmith, both those things would improve the weaponry of our troops and get things ready for the myrish crossbows. I do not know how much showhorses will cost though and what benefits it would bring.

In crunch terms, it gives a 5 Wealth discount to the Tournament Master Personage holding.

In game, you would be able to compete in races, equestrian competitions such as this, and other such things. Possibly gaining wealth in victory.

>no need for a sporting herd until after the redward.
Eh, he's more likely to attack if we're weak sure, but part of our weakness is the APPEARANCE of weakness making houses not want to deal with us.
>>
>>43072902
>>Bargain with Lord Conklyn

Push for a fair deal. Right now people are interested in doing business with us, a reputation for being fair and reliable will be valuable in the future. Goodwill goes a long way. Price-gouging may make things difficult later on.

By the same token, don't be a pushover either.

>>43072902
>Bargain with Lord Conklyn
Don't like giving up more horses, by chance how many horses do we actually have left? I know we've used them in a couple of deals but do we have a sustainable herd at the moment?
>>
>>43072970
Mostly I just want to make sure his horses are actually up to quality comparable to ours. We've been pretty generous with our "copyrights" so far.

We don't want to dilute our brand
>>
It might be worthwhile to also diversify from Horses after we max out the trade, maybe hounds or animal husbandry, as we have a background in breeding animals.

Lord Brynden Dolittle.
>>
>>43072934

Dontos would spend a lot of time there if we got a Sept, lets get a Septa- just in case to avoid trouble down the road.
>>
>>43073036

You always have a herd strong enough for the House's purposes. Any trades are for the studs, while purchases, like the 40 Ser Jon Longwaters bought were products of the holding and replaced essentially immediately.

>>43073075
I don't really think you've done anything to hurt your brand, a few gifts such as is there purpose and the deal with the Hayfords where you pretty much dictate how their horses are bred. Neither did anything to you.

The Sporting Herd isn't as comparable to your War Horses, simply because they are bred for different purposes. Argor's son however has shown they are on par, the sporting horses of House Conklyn are their pride.

>>43073018
A fair deal seems to be the major push here, which is going to be less bargaining on our end and more Lord Argor. I'll go with that.
>>
The idea was fair, and while you had cast doubt on the thought of rebuilding the sporting herd you once had, at the very least it would be something to be done in the future. The competition continues on, and more than a few horses give Lord Argor’s son a run for his money placing impressive second round scores among their first, Lord Argor watches intensely, drinking here and there.

Ser Lucas behind you has begun to pick at Lady Racheal, gaining mad blushes in the meanwhile, her father being entirely unaware, and at one moment he snaps one of the buttons of her dress with a quick movement, her mouth dropping to shock and beating him as quietly as possible while he holds back laughter. You roll your eyes and continue watching the competition. The spotted horse from before made a solid showing, double Lord Argor’s son’s score and you see the nervous youth mount up for his second ride, being second to last.

“My Lord, perhaps best of a more even trade,” you suggest and he presses a finger to his lips, almost consuming the first joint in his mustache and you quiet watching his son again.

The run is almost entirely like the first, movements just as precise, he misses a single step in one of the hurdles and you notice Lord Argor frowning deeply. When he finishes his score launches him into first place again, respectable for a young lad if nothing else. His father takes to his feet again clapping with vigor and you as well, the last competitor comes to his turn and Lord Conklyn speaks to you again.
>>
“Perhaps indeed my Lord. But in times of peace no doubt we would see more use of sporting horses than that of war, no?”

You scrunch your nose at that, he wished to place further worth on his own herd than your own, simply because of time, you ill liked that, “And be that as it may my Lord, war horses are still just as worthy a mount in times of peace, my Uncle’s horse Penance is one such horse and is rather more suited for the Joust, which I would dare say is a rather important contest no?”

“Rather,” Lord Argor says simply, voice hushed and eyes focused on the last competitor, a solid score would put him first. Finishing with a flair the judges tally their scores and he is awarded an exceptional one, just below Lord Argor’s son however. Lord Conklyn is beside himself, drawing himself up in a beaming pride, calling to his son who for his part looks shocked. The field is brought together for the celebration and announcing of the victory, Ser Lucas and Lady Racheal beg off and attend the latter’s younger brother on the field in celebration.

“My Lord, in light of such events, perhaps a deal could be made?”

You lick your lips and watch the younger Conklyn receive his golden laurel, you’d need a fairly convincing argument after that display, as close as it was.

Success, one degree.

“Of course my Lord Argor. Such a display as that has me thoroughly convinced to the worth of your horses.”

“I am glad to see you agree my Lord, a payment of 600 gold dragons, that seems more than appropriate yes?” he asks taking his seat and finishing his horn of ale in one large gulp.

“Perhaps of a neighbor my Lord, but I know the risks of studding from across the continent. Your hold is upon the Ocean Road yes? Quite a distance for my prized possessions to travel. Should I lose them? Who would pay me? And if the situation was reversed my Lord? Who would pay you?”

He frowns deeply, “I would suppose there is some truth in this my Lord. It has been a long time since a larger part of my herd was sent abroad…”

“Even longer still for them to be away my Lord. And mine as own, I would worry after them for such a time. The price of upkeep, it may be rather large, and I would not seek to deny your own horses such treatment as I am sure you would mine.”

“Oh of course my Lord!” Lord Argor responds seemingly ruffled by your sudden assault even for a simple fair trade, “I had not thought of such details... “ he casts eye to his son who is celebrating with his sister and Ser Lucas, “400 gold dragons then?”

“Acceptable my Lord Argor,” you say and extend a hand, one he takes with a certain strength and a waggle of his mustache again. Taking his seat alongside you he sits and watches Lucas talking to his young son.

“This Ser Lucas Longwaters…” he begins and you give him attention, “Is he a good man?”

“How do you mean my Lord?”

“My dear Racheal speaks highly of him, Grant loves him and once asked to be his squire,” he continues, “She is my third daughter, a marriage to him would be even but I do not know the man. What do you think my Lord?”

“In my short time of knowing the man I have come to find there is no better man, my Lord Argor. A fine swordsman, pitiful archer comparably, but a virtuous man, well spoken and well loved by both my Household and his own,” you say, eyes upon Ser Lucas. You had known him for less than a month but bondly closely with the younger twin, it did your heart well to know he would be returning to Steadhold with you. Better still that he may bring a wife as well, one of some degree of stature.

Lord Argor nods along, keeping his eyes trained as yours are, “In truth I did not know what to think of these Longwaters. They called them the forgotten House of Valyria, I worried for my daughter’s safety amongst them, though I fought alongside the Tyrells for the Targaryens this future is different.”

“Your daughter’s safety will be of mine concern as equally as Ser Lucas’ my Lord.”

He turns and gives you an odd look, “How so my Lord?”

“Ser Lucas has sworn his sword to House Malroy, my Lord, he intends to travel to Steadhold with me after the Tourney has concluded.”

His mustache waggles again and a smile creeps out from under it, “A thought I like well enough my Lord. It would be a mightier degree easier to see my dear Racheal on the mainland rather than some island in the mouth of the Narrow Sea. I thank you my Lord for your council, now if I may beg leave, my son is in need of my congratulations.”

-A few days later-

“Did he not tell you I had already asked her hand in marriage?” Lucas asks absolutely floored by the turn of events in past days. Lord Conklyn had accepted his proposal and they were to be wed in a few months times. You had offered your home of Steadhold as a middle ground of sorts, Lord Conklyn would be coming for the Melee, and to drop off a few of the studs he no longer needed. And of course the Longwaters would be attending, so it made perfect sense.

“No he had not, doesn’t matter, you owe me anyway Ser Lucas,” you respond laughing.

Ser Jon for his part had absolutely lost it when he heard, “I can’t bloody believe it, all this talk of living the bachelor life, and you’re suddenly tied down by the first pretty face to walk by in King’s Landing.”

A firm round of congratulations followed and your Knight seemed almost humbled by it all, he still acted his part as your equal in matters of ‘serious strategy’ but his mind was clearly flung elsewhere. That night you feasted, and hosted the newly made couple as well as Lord Conklyn. Lady Alexes attended as did Dontos and he received his fair share of sidelong looks, a sweat pooling on his brow in response, you had yet to speak to him of that potential alliance and suddenly felt a worse nephew for it. He almost looked like Barq Zos did when the Pentoshi banker molested him with his eyes.

Toasting them off again you leave for the night, turning in early. You visit Elionwy and Mason, the former being able to sleep at the latter’s side again who had regained full consciousness, but not quite all his motor functions yet. He waved you off with a finger upon lips and you nod leaving for an early night. Your body wanted of sleep, it had grown weary of its time in King’s Landing. You wished for home, and tomorrow was the last day of the Tourney, the final eight were to ride and in the evening the final feast of the event would be served. You had finally received a letter from the Grafton’s and had been invited to sit and dine with them, another chance at Lady Giselle, Dontos insisted you should take without any hesitation, though it still sat in your mind alongside the memory of Obella. Drunken and slurred as they were, her dark blue eyes sat in your memory, her grace with a bow and in the air. It burnt lust in your chest but you willed it stop.

-Morning-

Mounting upon Goldsong you instructed the Villa’s Household to begin preparing for your departure on the morrow, though you had the option of staying it would serve little purpose now. Ser Jon and Lucas follow after you, but split before you looking for their seats among the grandstands before the overbearing sun took hold of the day. Ser Victor and Wesley rode alongside you instead, and for a moment you considered. The day was still young and you did not need to make an appearance for the entirety of the last day of Joust rather the finals if anything. Thoughts turnt to Obella, of other actions, perhaps a day better spent elsewhere.

If won't hurt us, its a rather decent alliance, but it still leaves us with only arryn as someone we can ask for help, and you know what? He's old. Not going to be around forever. We don't won't him to kick it when we need him and not have any backup. HDW has its own drawback in distance of course, but there's definitely reason to go "Jon, Jon, Jon. I like you, but not 'have you pick out my marriage' like you."
>>
Blue eyes hidden by the black mask that looked like a scorpion’s carapace, graceful step, the body unlike any you had seen before. In your chest burnt a lust, but not one of simple desire. She had matched your game, not playing into your hand like the women you had grown use to, she was a challenge. And you desired more.

“Wesley, where would I find the entertainers?”

He thinks a moment, “Well… Most of them would likely be near the Red Keep practicing for tonight’s feast. I can’t think of anywhere else.”

“The Lady Sereya said she found the Scorpion act near there my Lord,” Victor chimes in, his usual smile playing about his lips.

“Thank you Victor,” you respond flatly, and give him a look that garners a fair amount of laughter.

Thinking of Obella reminds you of another thought of that night, a vague memory of Wesley with a woman in grey, “Cousin, who was the woman you were with the night of my celebration?”

Your cousin turns eight different shades of red and Victor absolutely howls with laughter at his expense, “It was… Lady Lilly, Brynden. She is… Kind.”

“And stacked,” Victor adds in, your cousin hardly able to contain his words with a stare of daggers, Ser Haigh for his part only keeping his place on his horse by sheer luck.
>>
Shaking your head you press on and travel into King’s Landing, the streets being almost devoid of anyone, and soon find the small camp of miscellaneous performers and actors, closer to Flea Bottom than you would prefer, but it was all the same to you in the end. You did not know for what to look for, it's not like she would have a sigil hung in the sky. Wesley and Victor both split off, and you go alone, a smattering of small peddlers offer you wares of various want and use, only once do you stop and pick up something. A gift for Lady Racheal in a few months you think. You ride a moment longer, doubts of your intent beginning to form. Then suddenly you see a small tent, surrounded in red and black silks, a large man standing guard before it, a small archery target riddled with arrows. Drawing in close you notice one of the aids from the other night peeking out and then disappearing when you catch her eye.

You dismount and approach, the man is almost Solhas’ size and looks to be of Norvos, you attempt to get a sellswords swagger in your step and he looks exceedingly unimpressed, before you reach him he calls out and stamps his axe into the ground, “Stop Westerosi. State your business.”

You think a moment, and place your resting hand over your sword, the other elbow on your arrows, “Not quarrel my good man, only to call upon Lady Scorpion.”

His nose twitches and he heaves his axe into both hands, “No.”
“No?”

“Yes, no. Be gone Westerosi.”

True but so is Dorne, the Tyrell's hate (or will hate) Oeryn for Willis, and the Stormlands have had border wars since the Rhoynar crossed the arm, and the Martells hate the Lannisters. Robert Baratheon also hates the Targaryens.

Yeah it's definitely a tradeoff no matter what we pick.

(The other thing about the marriage is it probably ALSO encourages loyalty in gulltown. They were loyalists themselves, marrying them to his own man from a former loyalist house is its own good call on arryn's part)
>>
>>43075259
Well, the aid is likely letting her know we're here, so we just need to entertain the muscle until she decides to come out.

"'No?' I've never really been such a fan of 'no.' Rings of too much finality. I prefer 'perhaps.' For instance, 'perhaps' Lady Scorpion is already waiting for me and you're simply standing in both our ways."

“I’d rather not, Norvoshi,” you respond in High Valyrian and he gives you an odd look, picking up enough from his knowledge of the bastard’s valyrian to know you have challenged him.

He draws up to you on heavy foot, and looks down over a rather large chest and meets your eyes.

“Tubī daor. Daor.”

“I never liked the word daor. It never rolled off the tongue like no does. Then again, I rather dislike the word no as well, too final. I much prefer perhaps. Example. Perhaps you should get the hell out of my way Noroshi. Or. Perhaps your Lady is already waiting my call and perhaps you are preventing meeting with your blunt stupidity,” you respond switching back to common and quirking an eyebrow, hand fully wrapped around your sword hilt now, you could fight one of the Bearded Priest’s monsters, not the first time afterall.

He doesn’t look to be backing down, and a guttural growl escapes his lip, for a moment you consider you may need to fight him, and ready yourself to launch into him with a headbutt.

“Zaro, enough,” a familiar voice calls out, and you peek around the monster of a man, your eyes are greeted with the lovely rolling step of Obella. She was dressed different, a low cut dress of red sanksilk, her shoulder bare, cut daring low with an equally daring slit up her thigh, a pair of snakeskin shoes wrap their way up to roughly the end of the thigh where the slit shows so much yet so little. She still wears her mask, but around her waist is a sash of black silk, hung together by an onyx scorpion, trails after her. Her eye’s catch with yours and the smallest bit of smile grows on her lips, though her eyes read of absolute disbelief of your presence.

“Lord Blackshaft, a pleasure to see you again,” she purrs, and places a hand on her bodyguard, his eye linger a moment longer on you and he relents, leaving off, with a grunt.
>>
“Lovely man, Zaro was it?”

She places her hands upon her hips and eyes you suspiciously, and then flicks her head and turns walking off with instruction for you to follow. Happy to watch her walk away from you, you oblige, allowing her to disappear from sight before stepping into the tent yourself. You’re met with the smell of incense, the warmth of the day hung lightly enough to get to your head and before you can react you find yourself locked into a deep kiss with Obella. Her hands making practiced movement about your body, finding buttons and buckles and disarming them with ease. She breaks away and begs you to follow, your sword lies on the ground, arrows among them, your cape gone, doublet flung to side. You follow like a puppy and she pushes into you with another kiss, the mask scratches your nose, her long braid presses against your chest between her breasts, more breast than you had expected in truth. Her body leads you to a bed, and guides you down straddling your manhood that strains wishing to be free.

“You ask of me a different boon and yet I find you here my Lord,” she whispers into your ear nibbling at it, “Why do you call upon me again Lord Brynden Blackshaft?”

Lets not gush here. She's going to be used to guys dropping their spaghetti.

Mention her mask, let's talk about her being a Qorgyle. Find out why she's in Kings Landing.
>>
>>43076052

We don't know but given she's Dornish wearing a scorpion mask and clearly been professionally trained with a bow. Assuming Brynden knows his heraldry it's not that big a leap.

Invite her to perform at our tourny, and talk about her 'teaching' us Dornish customs for our peace mission.

Of course we don't know that, but you say it because it's a dashing and charming shot in the dark made on informed guessing and might catch her off-guard. Come on, this is Playing Lovable Rogues 101!
>>
>>43076185

Don't invite her to the Tourney, it's asking for a incident and will bugger our relationship with Dontos and thusly lady chelsted and eliminate any potential with the Graftons.

She has made him so mad he is hearing voices!

>>43076170
>>43076206
Its a bit of a jump. We might get her to reveal it if we ask about her. Heck we could even make a little game. A bet so to speak. If we win we will tell her a story about her life in essos, if we win she will tell us something about herself. Question is. What kind of game.
>>
>>43076253
Because we have a girl performing at our melee? If he asks we'll just say she impressed us!

I really doubt that. Dontos will probably grumble. But he grumbles about everything,
>>
>>43076268

He's not stupid, and already kinda miffed about "that" party. (which he was at- until he left.)

Inviting her is asking for trouble. Either someone there will take the hump, or someone will find a scorpion somewhere unpleasant.
>>
>>43076052
>>43076116

You really don't know she's a Qorgyle in character. However there really was a lot of blatant hints, so Brynden might have figured it out.

Sooo, we can roll for it. Brynden knows a fair bit of Heraldry, but not a lot.

Typically that's a Knowledge check but given the reasoning in, >>43076206 is sound we'll give it a Cunning test.

So, roll 3d6 for Cunning.

>>
As a youth you had been taught the major/minor Houses of Westeros, roughly half stuck, the others were vague representations of the ‘guys with a pink naked chick on their standard’ and the like, but you recalled something of Dorne, more often than not really. The Martells with their lanced sun, Yronwoods the grey iron gate, and in the depths of your mind you recalled something that matched your current quarrels more than obvious giveaways. Red silks, almost the color of crimson blood, the black scorpions to match her name, the salty dornish appearance, in your mind a House sat, Qorgyle.

During your thoughts your hands had begun at the dress, it was already nearly come off, the slit allow you to work it to a bunch around her midsection, another glanced at what little clung to her shoulders and she frees her arm from it, the sanksilk falling to rest among the rest of the dress, her breast falls exposed, pert as the light brown of the rest of her skin, brown nipple tipping it and taken into your mouth as you begin to counter her dominance of the act. Her breath catches and her nails dig into your back, the other hand drawing through your hair, urging your head forward. Her moment’s lapse gives you enough time to swing her over onto her back rolling alongside her, her masks catches a bit and you place it back into its place with a steady finger, eye locking with her own, you ask in between breaths of passion, “I had need of… Advice Lady Scorpion.”
>>
“Advice of what-” your mouth reaches to her neck catching breath again, kissing it gently, taking small nibbles, her legs wrap around your body, hands beginning to dig at what is left of your clothing, “Of what my Lord?”. Your efforts to ward her off go in vain and she undoes your belt, reaching for her prize, taking it in a long stroke, “I am disappointed, Lord Blackshaft, it is not as they said.

You roll your eyes and press into her, soft warmth guides against your manhood and for a moment you press against the warm wetness of her loins, and then disappear into it. She sighs, contented and you groan into her neck, your body thrusting into her with a smooth rhythm earning small moans of pleasure in response, speaking into her neck again, “I find myself in need of… Lessons. Of the dornish court, of proper procedure of dealing with the Noble’s of Dorne, I find myself in a unique position in recent days.”

Her hand brings your lips to hers again and she kisses you deeply once again fighting your tongue with her own, in a moment you find yourself on your side and then suddenly your back again, She rests upon your manhood and shed the rest of her dress, and you take in her beauty in full, light abs upon her mid, a tone body but with the softness of flesh in her hip and breast, a light brown with dark hair of black silk. Her hips begin to ride and you groan a bit at the movement, she leans over catching your attention again, “And what makes you think I know anything of the court of Dorne, Lord Blackshaft?”
>>
Your hands rest upon her hips, in no way controlling movement, but rather maintaining it, her hands reach to the headboard and her strokes dig into your further, her voice singing of passion and lust, her lips hang ajar and her eyes half lidded, you catch them, “Call it a hunch, Lady Qorgyle.”

Her eyes shoot open, and meet yours fully, her voice does not stop, but you can hear a sudden change in tone, and your emerald eyes flame with passion and the knowing of a man that has brought more than one head to this discussion. Having caught her off guard you are able to turn the tables to your advantage again, and push up into a seated position, taking her deeply with every stroke, her body responding by clinging to your own, begging for attentions of breast and lip. You continue for a moment longer and feel the fire in your loins grow to a peak, and you push her down into the bed again, giving the final few strokes and then burying yourself to hilt inside her.

Her voice is ragged, half wanting for breath and further attentions, and she whispers into your ear, small nothings of want of more, but they are tinged with the sudden realization you’ve taken her fire away, you knew more than you should have. And it worried her immensely.

I'm not sure the peace mission is strictly speaking secret, those who are in the know in dorne probably already know about it. I might suggest if you're in the know you already know what I'm talking about, and if you're not you don't need to. Let on that we realize she's got an agenda here, but we don't mind.

Backing.
>>
>>43077398

Doran will know, but I kind of doubt Oberyn does, he's probably still pretty pissed.
>>
>>43077442
Yeah but I think that's likely to be less because it's a state secret and more because people have explicitly been told not to tell oberyn so he doesn't sabotage them before they begin.
>>
>>43077476

And House Qorgyle fostered Oberyn, if she's got a sponsor here my feeling is it's more likely to be Oberyn than Doran.
>>
Ultimately I kind of want to play into an agenda of it was the lannisters that Royce marched under, that the mountain marched under. We lost a love, we lost a sister, we know grief and empathize with Robert and the martells. But the martell's real vengeance should be on the lannisters. Which starts with weakening their influence on the crown. Give the hand a win and demand a place on the small council.

You roll to the side and interlacing her body with your own, wrapping a leg about your own and lazily playing with your spent manhood with a tender hand. Your arm wraps around her body coming to rest on her firm but more than ample buttocks, the other playing with the hair that had come loose from its braid during the heat of passion. Quiet for a moment you wait for her to speak, she seems conflicted, unsure of how to proceed. And you take the initiative, “Lady Obella, it was not by mere chance you found yourself performing in my Villa, was it?”

“No,” she answers plainly, her voice not to the defiant challenging strength you had heard previously.

“And you knew of where I was to go in the coming months, did you not?”

“Yes.”

Her hand continues its work and you begin to feel your body react, regaining vigor, your manhood beginning to harden against her soft touches, for a moment you wish to continue in passions but you steel yourself, willing your desires to a stop. But her eyes look to it with a lust, the wants of more still fresh upon your ear, pushing her to her back again you position yourself to her entrance again, but only graze it, her eyes search yours, and you hold her hands back under your own, her voice becoming of begging want, “Why me?” you ask.

Her eyes lock and her lips tremble, unsure of what word to place next, “B-because you were the easiest target.”

You press your length against her again and she squirms to your touch, voicing more than a Lady should, “Whose target?”

“Please… Pleaseplease,” she begs and you fix her with a steady look, emerald eyes burying into her pools of blue, “The Prince’s.”

You press into her and she moans deeply into the side of her pillow, you stroke into her again, maintaining a steady pace, your hand keeping hers in place, “Which?”

“I-I-I cannot say, oh Seven… I- please my Lord, I cannot,” she cries, you increase your pace and she falls to shambles, body arching and pushing to meet yours, “My Lord, please I… Just know you have an ally in… Fucking Seven- in Dorne,” her voice oozes and the final pangs of her pleasure wrack her body, sending shivers down its length, Her head falls to the side, eyes glazed over, though voice still sings, and you find yourself finishing into her again in quick order. You fall to the side and she merely curls up, pulling a blanket to her body.

“I cannot make you promises Lord Brynden,” she says quietly, attempting to sit up, back turned, but voice changing into her challenging tone, “But my sponsor wished to see you on our side. Whatever it took. Forgive me Lord Brynden, but I must take leave of you. Perhaps we will meet again, soon.”

She rises to shaky knees and leaves to another part of the tent, her aids come and begin to gather your things, pushing them upon you and forcing you to dress in a hastily nature looking only partially put together before being pushed out of the tent. Victor is waiting by your horse looking rather bored with himself, but smiles broadly when he sees you trotting over, fixing what was left of your clothing.
>>
“You reek of-”

“Don’t Victor, come, we need be off, where is Wesley?”

“Gone to sit with your Uncle and the Longwaters, telling them of our late arrival.”

“Good,” you say swinging into your saddle and gingerly taking a seat that hurt the least. Goldsong was a smooth ride, but it did little for your aching body.

---

Lucas eyes you with a knowing eye, Lady Racheal by his side, her arm wrapped into his, you take a seat between Ser Jon and your Uncle and sigh deeply apologizing for you delay. Wesley had lied and said you were distracted by a mummer's show, an absolutely pitiful lie, but good enough for the moment. Dontos filled you in on the what had happened in the list, seemingly caring little for your disheveled look, Ser Jaime had beaten Ser Selmy in the semi-finals in what was an amazing show, going to eight lances a piece, while Lord Bryce Dondarrion had beaten a Tyrell in what was such a quick showing if you had blinked you would have missed it. You recognized Lord Dondarrion’s standard, the purple lightning bolt stood in your head during the melee, shocking he was still able to compete so well.

For a moment you sat and allowed your body to recover, the tilt was to be in a few moments, as the King and Queen gave final thank yous and what have you of the royal sort. You could speak with your Household and allies for a moment if you so wished.

>Speak with Dontos
>Speak with Ser Jon Longwaters and Lady Sereya

Congratulations, you got laid. Again. Like every time you come to King's Landing. Oh Brynden, will you ever learn? Spoiler, not likely.

Speaking to the spy stuff, the question is, was she ever supposed to be a spy? Why be so blatant in your disguise if you are?

>>
You see Ser Jaime Lannister round into view, his horse stamping proudly to his master’s orders, the crowd erupts for the Kingsguard member but throughout you hear the calls of, “KINGSLAYER,” likely the only time they could dare utter such without tongue being torn from mouth. Dontos is watching the young man with practices eyes, with a seeming disdain, likely still with thought of his defeat of Ser Boros Blount. The other competitor, Lord Bryce Dondarrion comes out, his light purple armor and black horse reminding you of colors of your own. The crowd again erupted into cheers, chants for the ‘Lightning Lord’ coming in clear across the sea of smallfolk. The herald begins his announcing and during this you catch Dontos’ ear, “Lady Chelsted, seemed a fair mite interested in you the other night Uncle.”

His brow furrows deeply and he turns to regard you halfway, clearing his throat, “Yes she… Erm… Is a fine woman, Brynden.”

“I would certainly think so Uncle,” it was rare you had an advantage against Dontos like this and you pressed it hard, “A fine young woman, still fertile, and widowed. She did mention she was seeking a new husband.”

The first tilt begins, the two combatants rush towards one another, breaking a lance a piece, but both keeping their seat. An even match. Your Uncle is frozen, half watching the joust, half suddenly realizing your implications.

“I would not be a suitable match Brynden. I’m… just a second son, too old now to be worth the anything,” he attempts and you fix him with a heavy stare.
>>
“I’d think not Dontos, you are ‘the Black Knight of Malroy’, the man that so thoroughly beat a member of the Kingsguard you brought him to beg of mercy. I couldn’t think of a better match. One for our House, no doubt it would bring a fine degree of honor to become the ‘Lord Protector’ of Branfield,” you say, drawing on things he had thrown into your face before, honor and glory for the House.

Ser Jaime breaks a lance off of Lord Bryce, going up 3 to 4. The next tilt sees Lord Bryce even it up at 4 again.

A bead of sweat escape his brow and drips from his nose, “I… Would think of it nephew. Perhaps in a day I might… Court her?”

“Perhaps in a few months Uncle,” you suggest nonchalantly, watching as they round for another pass, “She is to attend the Melee, no doubt she would enjoy your company rather than Ser Chytterings.”
The collide again and for a moment you think Ser Jaime is lost, but his position steadies, and he follows through with his strike the broken lance digging into Lord Bryce and pulling him from his seat. The crowd gasps as the lightning lord is slung to the crowd, Ser Jaime being declared the victor.

“Seven Hells…” Dontos whispers to himself.

“Indeed Uncle, a vicious final showing,” you say ignoring it was a curse clearly meant for another topic, “Regardless Uncle, merely a thought. I would not force such upon you.”

“Yes… A thought. Thank you Brynden.”

The pomp and pageantry of the final moments of the Joust did little to interest you, Dontos wished to stay, with Ser Jon and Lady Sereya while the rest of your Household decided to leave off for want of freshening up in the short time before the last feast.
>>
You had returned home to the Villa, finally seeing Mason up and about again, though not as quick and sturdy as before he was well on the road to recovery. He insisted upon coming with you to the feast but you thought better of it, he could not ride, and would make a terrible mess of himself as the night wore on. Instead Ser Wesley and Lucas join you for the evening and your feasting with the Graftons. The rest of your Household taking other places among the feast or simply not attending, such as Dontos, who wished final time at the Great Sept before being off the next day.

You find yourself in the great hall of the Red Keep, so large it was almost bigger than the first floor of the entirety of Steadhold, you could still see lingering traces of the dragons, not all had been carved away as of yet and you trail a finger upon one wrapped about a support column. Wesley kept looking about the assembled masses and fiddling with his doublet, of which he looked absurd in, the colors of Hayford did little for the boy’s otherwise good looks. You catch the eye of the high table far down the hall, and see Lord Jon Arryn speaking with Ser Grover Grafton, the announcing of your name calling them both to attention. A page comes to you in colors of House Grafton and invites you along. And you follow, a rather prestigious seat in truth, a few rows down from the high table you were visible, but not in an expected way.

Ser Grover however meets you before you seat, around him you see the radiant beauty of Lady Giselle, her blonde hair allowed free, falling to soft curls about her body, her eyes catch with your own and she turns scarlet again, pressing fingers to lips in hopes of stifling a girlish giggle. You attention is called back to the Knight before you that glowers with no sense of restraint.
>>
“Lord Malroy.”

“Ser Grafton.”
“I had not thought to meet you again, but Lord Arryn insisted,” he grumbles out and casted an eye to the Hand of the King, “However I will not sit idly by as you grope my size like some common whore and sully her honor. If you wish to sit with us I will have your word you will conduct yourself like a Lord, is this clear?”

Well? Is it?

You lips curl into a smile and you incline your head to the side, “You’ve my word Ser Grafton. Upon my honor I shan’t touch a hair upon your sister’s head.”

The Knight attempts to keep himself puffed up but deflates a moment after you agree, apparently he was assuming you would refuse, act like an upstart child. Act like, well act like yourself in similar circumstances. Ser Wilson comes to mind, storming off of his King Crab. It was odd you had yet to see him beyond the trial, if only he had been in the group of threes rather than Ser Preston, if only. Allowing you to pass you come up to the table, and greet the other guests, introducing yourself, Lucas and Racheal and Wesley to them all. Lady Giselle takes your attentions a moment longer and you bow deeply, “I could not think a finer lady to dine with upon final night, Lady Giselle.”

She responds with a smile, attempting to hide her blushing with a fan brushing air upon her soft features. Her dress was not daring as Obella’s was, conservative was the better name, common of those above the Crownlands you thought. Though there was enough V to show a healthy amount of breast, with a light speckling of freckles above them, plain enough on her cream skin. Her dress was more the color of orange flame, than crimson blood, yet it hugged to her in a manner that did her assets well.
>>
>>43079004
Dont think that is how it works.
>>
You take your seat and listen to the King thank the guests for the such a wonderful celebration of his marriage, he gives special honors to Ser Jaime Lannister, the winner of the melee, Ser Barristan Selmy, and in a surprise, yourself. Announced as Lord Brynden Malroy, the winner of the Archery contest, you stand and bow sharply to the King, a Usurper he may be, but you did not forget yourself in high social circles. The applause was polite a few louder than others in respects to where they sat and their opinion of you. He inclines his goblet to you the wine slipping from it, and you can see the drunk in his eyes even from here. And the fire of wroth in his Queen’s beside him and you almost laugh.

Taking seat again you find a fine goblet of wine thrust into hand by a page wearing colors of the stag, the rest being given to your table, a gift he said, from the King in recognition of your prowess. One you took to lip with happiness, glancing to see the look of disdain from Ser Grover across from you, though it did little to slow his own drink.

Lady Giselle sips from her glas slowly, not wishing to appear uncouth and smiles to you again, “A fine wine my Lord, would you happen to know where it is from?” she asks out of nowhere. Her finger traces the lip of the goblet and you guess she does, perhaps fair maiden had a taste for the exquisite.

Success, one degree.

Taking another sip you attempt to take a peek at the maker’s mark on the cask placed upon the table near you, but she is quick and her hand covers it up, “No cheating my Lord.”

You roll your eyes and decide to make an earnest try at it, “It is… Not of Westeros?”

She nods, and takes another sip, “But where my Lord?”

You take in the aroma, it was…, “Not of the main land?”

She shrugs and takes another sip, you’ll take that as a yes. Glancing into the cup you take in the deep red of it and it becomes exceedingly obvious, “Of Lys. Famous for her red wines. Where else?”

Placing her glass down she claps with happiness, “Very good my Lord. I would think that easy for a man like yourself, no?”

“A savage of Essos, yes?”

She turns another shade of red and shakes her head no, “No no no my Lord. I did not mean like that, I do not partake in petty gossip about the court.”

You press your advantage on the flustered lady, “And yet you’ve heard it. Tell me, do they speak of how I will come and steal them in the night? Ravaging them like some uncommon brute.”

“Heavens no my Lord!” she exclaims pulling herself forward, breast pushing against the table in a way to show far more bust than intended.

“Than perhaps another rumor?”

“None my Lord, I swear it,” she says pouting with full lips, “I am not some gossipmonger. You wound me my Lord.”
>>
“I would then mend, my Lady,” you say pouring yourself another cup and offering her the same, to which she takes. And clinked it against your own. As the night wears on you find yourself in a deep conversation with the Lady Giselle, she enjoyed her wines, even being able to name the maker of an Arbor and it’s vintage, a House Karban you had never heard before, some years prior. Gulltown saw much and more of the imports from abroad and delivered them to the Vale and North. She spoke little of her home, shying away from the topic, instead turning it back on yourself. She marveled in your stories, told with restrained tongue. Ser Grafton was pacified as the evening went on and you kept your touches little and compliments tasteful.

As night grew long you felt the toll of the day upon you, Obella had eaten away at the last of your stamina for the week, yet Lady Giselle seemed to bounce in her seat with her own. Others you had never met before came to your seat, asking small questions, inquiring after your Melee in the coming months, offering congratulations of your victory in the Archery Contest, you doubted many even attended.

Ser Grover, having taken far too much into his cups becomes engrossed with conversation with your cousin about, as far as you could tell, ‘what the best damn soup was this side of Westeros’. And while you attention remained focused they were thrown when a foot began to rub against your leg, you turn an odd eye to Lady Giselle who flashes you one of innocence and standing after, offering her hand, “My Lord, I grow tired of feast, would you escort me to the gardens?”

Casting a glance to Ser Grover you surmise he is lost of wit and this would be nothing more than a pleasant escort about the gardens. No doubt many others would be about, and that would keep things from becoming too… Busy. She was not the Lady you had envisioned, always more of the free willed type, but there was a certain pleasantness to her way, her softness as she pressed herself into your side was an added bonus. She is far shorter than yourself, a good 3 or 4 inches shorter than Obella who had matched you by only a few less, yet she kept a prim stride alongside your longer gait. You regard the high table in respect and Lord Arryn gives you a glance along with the partial toothless smile you had come to know.

She takes over as guide, knowing the halls better than yourself, and you find yourself amongst the summer beauty of the Red King’s garden. You take over and meander about a moment, occasionally she wished to stop and smell a flower, her knowledge of them being far beyond your own. Gulltown hardly supported such even in the height of summer and she always yearned to see them.

You find a small unoccupied gazebo and take seat, looking out over the Narrow Sea, the moonlight reflecting off in the clear night. She huddles into you, a cold breeze cutting through her lighter garb.

“Lord Brynden?”

“Yes Lady Giselle?”

“Have they told you my father?”

You think upon it, and they had not, it was an odd question in truth, “No my Lady. They had not, I did not think it important.”

She sighs and pulls away slightly attempting to keep her eyes on you but cast them into the ground instead, “My brother and I were children of Lord Marq Grafton. He was killed during the Rebellion for siding with the Targaryens. My brother was… Disinherited for this and my Uncle was given the House. In truth my Lord… I do not know if I am worth anymore to you than a woman across the Narrow Sea.”
>>
>>43079888
Hey lets seriously not fuck and drop the lady our patron wants us to marry. Declining is one thing but that's a big huge fuck you.
>>
Your brow furrows, she wasn’t of the mainline anymore. The Graftons were powerful, but to this extent she was no longer worth the hand she could give. It explained Ser Grover’s actions, he held a chip on his shoulder, his birthright lost. Lord Arryn was certainly behind the push, but you could not see why now. However, it would do you ill good to suddenly reject her now, and you turn your voice to silk, attempting to soothe, “My Lady I care not for your parentage, I am the son of a Targaryen loyalist as well, do you think less of me for it?”

“No my Lord…” she sighs out still avoiding your eyes.

“Then I not you, the Kingdom has moved on, as shall we, and grow stronger for the hardships she passes upon us,” you say, pressing a hand upon her own.

She looks to you, a slight tear in her eye, and you return the look. Before being entirely caught off guard by her, she kisses you, not with the passion of the woman earlier, but of unpracticed youth. You are unsure of how to respond, eyes remaining open and she meets them suddenly with a panic and breaks off.

“M-my Lord, I’m sorry, I should not have…” she stammers out and takes to her feet, you go to take her hand and form word but she avoids it, “Thank you for escort my Lord. I would bid you goodnight. Yes goodnight,” and she rushes off. You sit. Confused. Not entirely sure of what just happened.

I'm curious: Do we know which other houses that fought for the Targaryens still have vast outstanding debts?

We are flush with wealth, and offering them some reprieve from their burdens could win us friends for life.

And when we go to Dorne and find out some Targaryens yet live, and that Oberyn is thinking of mustering for Viserys, we might be able to offer the support of several crownland houses and the disenfranchised rightful heirs of Gulltown.

Two Blessing and a Growth. Fuck it, we'll go with Blessing today.

So that's a 1d6 to one resource, or 1d3 to two resources. At a guess I'd say 1d3 Land and Power?

Easy.

He's a nice guy, and doesn't want to particularly mistreat the people who suffered the most during the rebellion for fear of rending the seven kingdoms further with discontent and war.

Thus, he thinks setting disenfranchised Vale nobility up with a relatively decent household in the crownlands will keep them somewhat in the luxury they were used to, and soothe tempers somewhat.

But it's probably also crossed his mind that having a sweet and grounded young lady marry us might convince us to settle down a bit.

It's win/win/win for stability, which is Arryn through and through.

Yup

Not that well for us though since she is no longer part of the main branch.

Indeed not. Which would prevent us, a Valyrian house with as-yet-undetermined loyalties from gaining more power.

That also adds to the stability of the realm. If we get too powerful we become a potential problem.

Alright not much response on this. We'll decide at the beginning of the next thread then, and do the rolls then. Anyway. I'm off, night guys.

The more time pass, the more Jon Arryn sounds like Light from Megaman.
A nice guy who by his action fucked up the world they lived in.
People call it Robert's Rebellion, but the one for rebelled 1st was Jon Arryn.

Don't really know enough about the underlying mechanics to make a decision, sorry.

I prefer to speculate on political implications and voice support for the Targaryens.

So does it really not occur to arryn that brynden does not trust the king's piece enough for this marriage to have a realistic chance, or was be just hoping that no one would spill the beans and brynden wouldn't be too pissed when be realized he'd been had

Came for the quest, stayed for the lewd. I enjoyed that, I don't think a GoT quest has ever delved into the sexuality of the source material and I appreciate Brynden being so different from the other MCs.

I liked that we actually have only not faded to black for plot relevant lewd though. A lot of the time lewd just becomes the hunt for more and more wordporn but I don't think that's a realistic outcome here
