YOU ARE CADET-CAPTAIN [REDACTED] OF THE IMPERIAL NAVY. IT IS YOUR FINAL EXAMINATION TEST, IN WHICH YOUR TEAM OF ROOKIES FLY A SKIPRAY BLASTBOAT IN THE THIRD BATTLE OF GEONOSIS. SO FAR, YOU HAVE STAMPED OUT INSUBORDINATION IN YOUR TEAM (FOR NOW), DESTROYED A SQUADRON OF TRI-FIGHTERS AND A BANKING CLAN FRIGATE, AND ALMOST JUNKED YOUR OWN SHIP IN THE PROCESS.

You step away from the console. “One more chance, Quint. Just one. We’ll talk more after this is over.” You say simply. There isn’t time for a speech and Emperor knows you’ve given enough already. The man actually salutes you, though there is a little bit of a sardonic smile on his face. “Gotcha boss.” He says simply and settles down into the chair, wrapping his fingers around the control yoke. “Orders?” He asks. You cross your arms. You already know what you have to do.

“Zeta Leader, form up on my position. We’re going to take out those Hyena bombers.” You send to the cadet TIE pilots. “Helm, take us under those Hyenas. Within weapons range this time, if you’d be so kind.” The little jibe is enough to get your message across. Quint nods and takes the ship on exactly the course you have specified. It occurs to you that you should have heard from Vensenor by now. The jamming’s been disabled for a good minute now.

None of that now. How are you going to proceed?
>Head in first, try to draw away the fighter escort so the TIE’s can deal with the bombers.
>Have the TIE’s run distraction duty whilst you deal with the bombers yourself.
>Targets of opportunity – go in all at once and hit anything you can.

They go after us, they open their flank for a TIE attack, if they come after the TIE they open themselves open to an attack from us.

They need co-ordination in order to win this, and they don't have it with their frigate down.

Signal Zeta Squadron that we're going to flank them from one side, ask them if they can attack from the other to catch them by both sides.

It feels like your team has finally gotten some small measure of cohesion back together. You watch the sensor screen over Quint’s shoulder as the distance between you and the droids dwindles. Tons is hard at work, and it looks like Tadia is helping him whilst she waits for a firing solution. You patch in to Zeta Lead again and lay out the plan that has just occurred to you. He seems to latch onto the idea just like he’s latched onto all of yours so far. How the kid got a squadron command is a complete mystery to you. Most TIE pilots that you know are stuck-up assholes.

Quint would fit right in, actually. “Okay Quint, take us on a starboard approach. We’re going to pincer those droids between us and Zeta Squadron and kriff ‘em good.” You decide to try for a slightly less, ahem, dignified approach to the orders, and it seems to work. Quint grins and tightens his hands around the yoke. He’s working at a disadvantage here, relying on sensors just as you were. Not that it seems to matter any. He takes you right in on the course you specified, adding a little flare of coming at them from behind the sun to obscure his profile.

It works. The Vulture Droids wheel jerkily towards you and their fire is off-target. That hit to the Frigate certainly did slow their reaction time a little. Things really start to click, as Tons reports “Ions back up.” And lashes out with a vicious rapidfire Ion Cannon salvo. The central cannon is still slagged, but the two wing cannons track and fire with unerring precision, the wings rotating around the body of your gunship to get the best targeting solution. Two Vultures and one Hyena go down. Tadia’s top turret spits out blaster fire, then stops. “Stoppage! Stoppage!” She calls out.

At that point, that's just the instructor messing with the simulator for fun. There's no way to have so much technical issues in one mission.

For once, Tons is quick on the uptake. From the main gunnery console, he reaches down under the main desk and grabs a pair of wires. In what is definitely NOT a regulation repair effort, he hotwires something, and the turret comes back online. “I’m good, thanks!” She calls out and the turret reaps a heavy toll. Even as you lance through the enemy formation, Zeta Squadron does the same, emboldened by your vicious assault. It ceases to be a battle and becomes a mopping up operation. Within a few short minutes, during which you actually feel like you’re leading a team, the enemy is obliterated.

“SIMULATION OVER” a cold, mechanical voice sounds over the internal comms, and the simulator shuts down. “MISSION SUCCESSFUL.”

By the Emperor, you did it.

A few minutes later, and you are alone in the office of the Captain, giving your after-action report. He looks through his notes, flipping through screens on his datapad. You’re standing on front of his desk, a massive wroshyr-wood thing that looks like it could be used as ballast for an Imperial-class.

“How would you rate your team-mate’s performance during the mission?” He asks mildly.

Did I leave you in suspense?

From what our character noted, and our lieutenant confirmed, this scenario is considered one of the hardest scenarios in the entire simulation library.

Fancy. Now on to business.
At this point I feel that harshly punishing Quint would break team coherency now that he has mellowed out and accepted our command position. But at the same time, we have to ensure that he doesn't pull any similar stunts.
A non-official and not too humiliating punishment seems to be in order. I suggest pranking him with the other students.

>“How would you rate your team-mate’s performance during the mission?” He asks mildly.
Exemplary, be it in terms of bravery or capability. (anyways you were the commander, so their eventual failure would be your failure. Crew cohesion, oh !)

I can't really fault Tons here. His console was rigged to burst into FLAMES right in his face, and there's really no way to fix a ruptured torpedo tube from inside the ship.

We should mention problems with Tons and Quint, but phrase it in a way as to cover them. Like they weren't certain of us as a leader or our tactics or in such a sub-optimal scenario but you feel like given the results any problems should be smoothed over. They did the best they could in their own ability - experience will do the rest.

I mean, they should have recorded the whole thing, it's the Empire, so now they're asking us how we feel about shit. Hell, they probably record us in our bunks and in our 'freshers to make sure we're not doing something against regs.

You meet the Captain’s gaze, and his eyes seem to bore right through yours. You know you are going to have to be very careful about how you phrase this. You clear your throat.
“Given the situation sir, I feel that my team-mates worked well. We suffered multiple technical difficulties that bordered on the disastrous, but we worked through them as a team. I won’t deny that we still have some things to work through before we’re a truly cohesive unit but we –are- working through it and, as you can see, it hasn’t impacted adversely on our performance. We wiped the field, just like you asked.” You keep your expression neutral, but it is impossible to hide a small hint of satisfaction from your voice.

“I’d also like to mention Zeta Leader, sir. His Squadron was punching far above their weight and recovered quickly from the brink of disaster. I look forward to working with him again. That is all, sir.” The Captain allows the corner of his lip to tug upwards into a small, mysterious little smile. He holds your gaze, then slowly rises up to his feet. He sets down his datapad on the desk, and nods his head in agreement.
“We do like to play little pranks on our cadets during the last examination. It gives us old fogies a little bit of fun.” He admits bluntly, his smile widening. “Not that it stopped you. Your performance speaks for itself, and you did complete all your objectives and survive. Besh Flight has passed the final examination.” He picks up his datapad and hands it to you.

“Congratulations, Ensign. The graduation ceremony will not be until tomorrow, but I can say that your entire flight is graduating from Vensenor with top marks.” You look down at the datapad, and what you see causes your jaw to drop a little. It appears that your flight has received quite a few offers for MOS’s and postings. You look back up in time to see that the Captain is holding out a hand to shake. You take his hand in a firm grip. “I always knew you’d make us proud, Ensign Otto. Dismissed – the rest of the day is yours.”

You salute him, and he returns the salute. You leave the office, and your team is in the waiting room. Tons is, of course, going through the after-action reports and taking notes. Amusingly enough, Quint and Tadia are chatting freely about the mission, clearly still riding the adrenaline high. Well, Corellians are typically more tolerant of aliens, you guess. The three look up at you expectantly. It is, of course, Quint who speaks up first.

“Well, glorious leader? How’d we do?”

You simply toss your datapad to him. His whoop of triumph could probably be harnessed by the Geonosians for a new sonic cannon.

How will you celebrate?

Well, we should celebrate, but let's let our "crew" have a little input. We're all the same rank now, after all. Drinks in the mess with the other cadets, or a rousing round of TIE simulator tourney.

Normally, after you are done with the day’s duties, Quint suggests that the team head down to the mess hall for some booze and possibly even some Pazaak (for some reason, he doesn’t consider Sabaac a real card game). Normally, the entire rest of the squad shuts him down because there’s always work to be done. This time, things are different. There’s no work to be done at all. You’ve passed your final exam, managed to not get kicked out and you didn’t even get blown up into simulated space dust. Despite what feels like the best efforts of the universe.
“Sooooo, mess hall? C’mon guys, I’ll even buy the first round.” Quint asks.

His reaction when you reply with a “Sure, sounds like fun,” is priceless. If his jaw dropped any more, you’d have a hull breach on your hands. Again. Tadia nods her head. “Well, I suppose it is a special occasion.” He admits. Tons simply nods. As the four of you head down to the bar, Quint tries to get Tons to come out of his shell a little. “C’mon fella, don’t be like that. That stunt with the wires – classic. I know my way around tech and even I can’t tell if you fixed the ship or rigged the sim.” He jokes, an arm draped lazily around Tons’s shoulders. Since you were the first flight to run through the test, you’re easily the first flight to make it back to the mess hall.
>>
The cook, a grizzled old clone called Flames, greets you all with a broad smile as you enter the mess hall. “Well if it isn’t my favourite flight! Are you here to celebrate, or to drown your sorrows?” He asks. You know the odds. There are 120 cadets in your class at Vensenor, and only 10% of pilots make it through flight training. A full hundred cadets are not going to be celebrating today, transferred to other, more boring tasks within the Empire. Not you, though. Not today.

“You doubt me? You cretin, I thought you had more faith than that!” Quint mock-jeers, and is met with a mug of Corellian dark ale and a chuckle from Flames. He turns to you. “So, Ensign Otto now, is it? What’ll it be, kid?”

You consider your options for a moment, then shrug your shoulders. Why not? “Tell you what, Flames old boy, give me something I haven’t tried before. Something exotic.” The old clone taps his nose with a finger and winks. “I’ve got just the thing sir, won’t be a moment.” He takes orders from Tons and Tadia – Tons orders a Corellian dark ale like Quint, whereas Tadia has an Alderaanian cider. Apparently, even when celebrating she’s going to be cautious. Hopefully she doesn’t decide to report you for something or another later. That would put a real downer on your day. Getting tortured by the ISB is always a bit of a party pooper.

Flames comes back with the drinks, including something deep red in a long, thin glass. “Now this is something special. Been hiding this for a while now. Zeltronian spiced wine. Smooth as the action on a DC-17 – and with the same kind of kick.” He offers you the glass, and you take it with a nod of thanks. The four of you raise your glasses. “For the Empire!” You cheer, before clinking your glasses against each other and downing them. Flames isn't wrong, the heat hits you like you danced on detonite, but it doesn't burn until it's already in your stomach. Quint is already fetching out a Pazaak deck from his belt pouch, but before he can offer anyone a game, the mess hall door opens, and the four pilots of Zeta Flight (no longer a squadron, now the sim is over) saunter in, clearly full of good cheer.

Their leader, a young, blonde-haired fellow seeks breaks ranks from the rest of his team and heads over towards you. “Besh flight, right?” He asks, holding out a gloved hand to shake. His accent is pure Valahari, deep and resonant. The man cracks a smile as you shake the offered hand. “Ensign Turr Phennir. You really saved my backside out there. Let me buy you a drink…?” He pauses as he tries to remember your name. Looks like you’re going to have to introduce yourself.

We've got plenty of good alternatives, if you'd just bother to change to them.

But no, most players are too lazy to do that and have probably already left after voting.
So I guess we deserve to be named after a fucking screwup.

Or we could just be named for the root the name comes from. Just because two things have the same name doesn't mean one is "named after" the other.

FFS people, it's just a name. Valerian is fine for me, but if it's such a problem I'v got a very easy solution:

“Otto. Valerian Otto. Callsign Venus.” You respond. The callsign isn’t one you chose, but one those assholes in Dorn Flight gave you after you set up that trap in your third flight-on-flight fighter sim. It would have worked, too, if Quint hadn’t charged right in and gotten Tadia taken out trying to cover for him. At least you won that fight. Barely. Recognition dawns on Phennir’s face and his smile drops a little. He’s clearly about to ask a question, but after a moment he decides against it. You let out a tiny sigh of relief. “I never woulda thought it was Besh Flight bailing out my behind. I had fifty credits on you turning on each other!” He jokes, and you share a chuckle. A few days ago, and you’d have made the same bet yourself.

You indicate your flight-mates with a wave of your hand. “These are my crew. Elevens Tons, Quint Reth and Tadia Moonstalker.” Tadia simply eyes him cooly, and Tons is more interested in his drink. Quint sandwiches himself in between you and claps a hand on Phennir’s shoulder. “Phenny-boy! I knew you were going to make it, you rascal!” Apparently, the two already know each other. As your flights introduce themselves, time passes and you finish off your drink.

Quint and Phennir swap stories, their hands weaving through the air as they visually describe the crazy manoeuvres that they pulled. You even recognize a few of them. Heh, hotshot pilots are all the same. One of Phennir’s flight-mates, a female human with black hair has attempted to strike up a conversation with Elevens Tons. You’re not sure which of the two you feel the sorrier for – Tons is clearly uninterested in conversation, but the pilot isn’t showing any signs of giving up. You take a sip from your drink as the other two of Phennir’s pilots immediately launch into what looks like some kind of bizarre drinking game involving a sabaac deck that is definitely non-regulation.

Your gaze wanders over to Tadia, and her brown eyes meet yours. You raise your glass in a silent salute, acknowledging her role in keeping your team from succumbing to the clusterkriff that was your mission in your own way. She raises her glass in response, the corner of her lip tugging upwards in a smile. She then turns her attention back to the datapad held in her gloved hands, clearly looking over the listing offers your flight has received. Message received and understood. You decide after a moment to see how the hotshots are doing. You wander over to Phennir and Quint. Phennir is leaning back against the counter, taking a sip from what looks like Alderaanian red wine.

“Speaking of stunts.” He chortles as you arrive. “I saw that trick you did with the Frigate. Not exactly what I’d call textbook.” He observes drily, apparently having recovered some of his composure with the mission over. He tilts his head to the side and his gaze flicks upwards as he searches for the right word. “Inspired, I’d say.” He decides after a moment. “I’ve seen the Otto’s Cobra done before, but never on sensors only. Very nicely done.” He raises his glass, and you clink yours against his.
“So, Phennir, what do you think of those new TIE Advanced prototypes they’re rolling out?” You ask, naturally dropping into shop talk. He shrugs his shoulders. “Shields and life support is nice and all, but all that weight, slowing you down.” He curls his lip in distaste. “Give me speed over protection any day. I trust my ability to dodge.” He winks. “What about you? You a clunky old gunboat driver by choice, or are you more of a speed freak?”

When it comes down to it there are things that a fighter can kill, and very well, and there's things you need artillery for. You fighter jocks got the speed department covered. Something big enough to house a decent gun usually comes with enough armor for a scrap anyway.
>>
>>43063431
>I like armour. Dodging only gets you so far.
Even Imperial Navy planners eventually realized that it was more cost effective to keep pilots alive with expensive space superiority fighters than expend them like cheap ammo.

Besides, the TIE Advanced and Defender actually have HIGHER speeds than the LN and Interceptor.

What about stuff like the TIE Bomber or some old Arc-170s?
>>
>>43063552
Yeah, there's no way the character would know that. I meant it as commentary for the other players to not take Phennir's comment about the Advanced being slower than the regular TIE fighter as completely true.
The Advanced is only slightly less maneuverable, but it has shields, better top speed and acceleration, and a missile launcher.
>>
>>43063561
Look I'm always on the absinthe-doesn't-cause-hallucinations side of this obnoxious argument, but if you think olive wine is in any way comparable to a high proof herbal spirit then you should probably keep your spectacularly uninformed opinion to yourself.
>>
You allow a smug little grin to twist your face. “Speed did not decapitate a frigate in a single hit.” You inform Phennir, taking a sip of your spiced wine (oh hey, everything’s warmer now). “Nine concussion missiles right into the bridge did. Speed is all well and good, armour is nice, but firepower is what wins wars.” It reminds you of an adage your uncle the General used to tell you, back when you were young. “Infantry wins firefights, walkers win battles. Artillery wins wars.” Of course your uncle told you that – the man’s always been an artilleryman.
>>
>>43063552
Wait, the TIE Advanced that we're talking about is the TIE Advanced x1, right? Not the TIE Advanced that became the TIE Avenger?
Because the TIE Advanced/Avenger came after the Interceptor.
>>
>>43063751

Phennir scoffs, engaging in good-natured banter. “Very true, but you’d never have been able to pull that off without evading those nine missiles. And a collision.” He’s got a point, and Quint nods sagely, even though he was flat on his Corellian arse when the actual evasion took place. “Course, I’d have done it with more style…” He interjects, only to be greeted with a little gigglesnort of laughter from Tadia, who is clearly listening in. “What a shame you were too busy being dragged out of a slagged cockpit.” She chides him gently, her voice carrying obvious traces of amusement. Quint’s face turns a little red, and he returns to his drink.

“Tell you what, Turr. You run rings around the enemy, and I’ll put a concussion missile or nine right up their exhaust port while they’re distracted.” The younger man grins and takes a sip from his wine. “I’ll drink to that. Always good to have friends with artillery.” Looks like the two of you are going to get along just swimmingly. Quint jumps back in with another tall tale, but you’ve little stomach for the boasting of hotshots.

You look around. Tadia is at the counter, reading the datapad, her drink almost untouched beside her. She allows herself a little smile every now and then as Phennir, Quint or the twins (holy nine hells of Corellia, they actually are twins) says something amusing. Tons appears to be almost talking back, occasionally nodding as his new friend natters on about something or another. Well, the day’s still young. Time for a little more fun before it’s srs bizniss time.

>Talk to Tadia. She doesn’t really seem to be taking part in the festivities.

Let's give a help to our wingman
>>
You spot Tons and his new companion at the far end of the bar and allow yourself a small grin. The man looks so uncomfortable that he might as well be wearing a Huttese dancing girls’ outfit. Whether it’s due to nerves around a woman or his usual antisocial nature, you can’t for the life of you tell. You’re not as good as reading people as your mother was. You turn to Flames and nod to the two. “I’ll pay for another round for them.” You order, leaning your elbow as you watch the two. Flames catches on pretty quick for a clone, and chuckles. “I see you take your wingman job literally.” He jokes as he grabs a pair of fresh transparisteel mugs from the rack.

“So, are you going to tell me the Geonosis story? They ran us through the Gizor scenario today.” You ask, wondering if you can finally get the one story that Flames has been reluctant to tell out of him. He hands you the glasses and winks. “Maybe later, kid. Your wingman’s picked up a tail.” He speaks in fighter jock slang, a language as old as any. You take the glasses with a nod of thanks and saunter over. You catch some of the conversation as you approach.
“But Ensign Phennir insists that the SFS Ps-4 is a superior design to the Cygnus 4K7! I mean, I know that Sienar designs have better efficiency, but Cygnus can’t be beat when it comes to pure thrust-to-weight ratio!” The pilot insists, clearly outraged that her flight leader dare have such a blasphemous opinion.
>>
Your wingmate, ever the stud, mumbles something along the lines of. “Buy Cygnar for style, buy Sienar for substance.” Oh, sweet Emperor, no. You got here just in time. You place the two glasses on the counter and pull up a stool next to your wingmate, on the far side of the female pilot. “You telling our friend about the trick you pulled with the fire control system, Tons?” You ask, nudging your wingmate with an elbow. At the mention of fire control systems, his new friend acquires a target lock and zeroes right in on him. “Oooh, you know your way around a Sienar targeting computer?” She asks.

Emperor save us, she’s a tech nerd. She's got a target lock and it looks like Tons is doing everything he can to break it. The man needs your help.

What is your strategy, ensign?

You finally get a decent look at the pilot. Her black hair is curly and a little unruly. Fluffy, you might call it. You’re amazed that she can even fit it into the issued TIE pilot helmet, and you secretly suspect it might be an entire centimetre longer than regulation standard! Everything else about her is prim and proper, except for a little splash of oil on her pale, freckled face. Her blue eyes stare at Tons with something bordering on giddy excitement as he mumbles. “I guess.” Well, you’re not going to have any of that! “Just Sienar comps? Utter cooloowhallop! You’re looking at the second-highest rated marksman in the entire class and the only one certified on every fighter-level weapon the Empire produces.”

It’s a little bit of a boast, but it’s true nonetheless. At least, if you don’t include anything classified, still in the prototypes stages or flown by Lord Vader. If there’s one thing that you and Tons agree on, it is a love of unadulterated firepower. It’s why you went straight for the Skipray instead of the TIE Fighters for the final examination. “So there we were, no osik. Fire control is down, main ion cannon is slag and our torpedo tubes are shredded. The turret finally goes dead, and what does this hero of the Empire do? He just reaches under the fire control console, casual as you’d please, and hotwires it. Not only was the turret fixed, it was better! Just ask Tadia, the damn thing tracked faster, acquired faster and fired faster too.

You clap a hand on Ton’s shoulder, and he shrugs his shoulders. “Eh.” He sums up his opinion of the situation with a single snort. “Not like we were using the missile guidance system anyway.” He adds, taking a sip from his drink. His expression matches his complexion – dark. Stars, he really does think he didn’t make a positive contribution to the team. This goes deeper than simply shyness around a woman, and you’ll not allow such pessimism on your flight. “Nonsense! You know what we’d have been without that turret? Unarmed. Actually unarmed. You know what they call an unarmed vessel in a naval battle? Wreckage.” The fuzzy-haired starship nerd beside him nods her head vehemently. “I heard about the malfunctions the simulator staff planted. I doubt I’d have thought to patch the missile guidance system into the turret fire control before we were scrap metal.”

That did it. She’s definitely impressed now. Tons shrugs his shoulders. “I suppose it was quick.” He allows with a small smile. “I mean, not as slick as Venus pulling an Otto’s Cobra blind, or Tadia dragging Quint from a decompressing cockpit without the benefit of a flight suit. But it’s a start.” He takes a deeper sip from his drink, before he realizes that you have absolutely no idea who the pilot is. “Oh, right.” He says after an awkward pause. “Nora Scorpio, this is Valerian Otto, our flight lead. Boss, this is Nora Scorpio, Phennir’s wingmate.” You hold out a hand to shake, and she takes it.

“Any friend of Tons’ is a friend of mine.” You greet her warmly. She returns the smile and the handshake. “Oh. OH. You’re Bismarck’s son. That explains everything.” She doesn’t even notice as your smile drops a little at the mention of your martyred father. Tons does, and in a rare show of initiative he covers for you.
“So, Nora, what kind of offers has Zeta Flight gotten? We managed to get one from Imperial Customs, of all people.” He lets out a little scoff, either astonished or a little disgusted, you can’t tell which. Nora positively beams. “We’ve been offered a posting out in the Galov sector with the 603rd Fighter Squadron. Promises a lot of action, and Rothana Engineering isn’t far from there.” She turns to face you.
“What about you, Ensign Otto? Any thoughts about where you’d like to end up?”

Force Projection. It's better to run a carrier eventually, though the Empire doesn't have dedicated carriers like we do. Imagine how frightening the Empire would be if they advanced past the tactics of a Mahanian naval combat theory?
>>

go for a carrack, then. it has the fucking thrust:wight of a fucking X-wing but it's bigger than a neb-B
>>

>>
>>43064943

Actually, in Legends there are several dedicated carrier classes, usually to house fighter escorts when you don't want to lug a SD around with everything. Those fuckers already field 72 fighters, not counting other support ships.

Also in a retcon, there is also supposedly a SD-sized carrier (Secutor-class) but it's really obscure.

“I was just talking about this with Phennir, actually.” You take a sip from your spiced wine, and are a little surprised that you’re still able to string a sentence together with such eloquence. And that you’re not noticing Nora’s petite figure an- no. Just no. Tons saw her first, you’re wing manning him. It simply wouldn’t do to stab a wingmate in the back like that. Stormtroopers might kriff like Nunas, but the Navy has a CODE, damn it. It takes you a few seconds to realize that your internal monologue cut you off mid-statement, leaving your conversation partners in suspense. You clear your throat. “Ahem, yes, as I was saying. As much as I hate being cooped up in a bridge with these louts, nothing can match the firepower of a capital ship. As I told Ensign Phennir, artillery wins wars.”

You allow yourself a little chuckle, and Tons nods in agreement. “I’m a better gunner than pilot anyway.” He adds, preferring to not have to worry about moving and shooting at the same time. A true sniper, Tons. Good man. “Plus, it feels so satisfying to just say ‘fire’ and unleash the Emperor’s wrath on some poor barve.” You add with a sly grin. You wonder if starship nerds find power attractive. That thought dies along with the earlier one and you come to the awkward realisation that this cadet might not be entirely sober. Rather than risk flying through a minefield, you decide to make a tactical withdrawal. “Anywho, I’ll leave you fine people to it. Remember to be proud – we’re real Navy people now.”
>>
>>43065008
You get up to your feet and WOAH! What the kriff? You were fine before, who turned down the inertial dampeners? You make your way back to the counter, adjusting your footing to compensate for the sway of the deck beneath your feet, and take a seat at one of the stools. Wow, that spiced wine is just like a real Zeltron – seductive, sly, and sneaky enough that you don’t realize what’s going on until it’s too late. You blink a couple of times to clear your vision. Tadia meets your gaze and moves a seat closer. “You allright, skipper?” She asks, using the nickname that she’s always reserved for you. Her voice betrays what might be concern, or maybe just disdain. You can never tell with aliens. Disgusting things. Stupid aliens and their stupid sexy faces.

I actually did know that, but I'm comparing their carriers to ours. The Nimitz carrier can hold over a hundred aircraft. Granted, it can't launch them all at once like Star Destroyers, but it's a third of the length of a one.

Well, an SD is basically an occupation force in a box. 72 slots is just for fighters, she carries another ~30 support vehicles, 50 walkers, a prefab base and carries nearly 10,000 troops as passengers.

But if it makes you feel better, maybe OP would give us a Secutor command, that's 144 dedicated fighter slots.

>>
>>43065251

What happens on Hologram Fun World stays on Hologram Fun World.
>>
>>43065223
So how does that work, anyway?
The Empire is pro-human, and she's a fanatical Imperial, and she's a near-human. What's her deal?
>>
>>43065276

Miralians are all about destiny, or something. The tattoos mark hardships they have to face to reach their goals, so somehow she must have found to be part of the Empire was her fate, or whatever. Probably why she's so zealous. She has to overcome a lot to get to where the cosmos says she should be.
>>
>>43065276
Certain near-human species are close enough that the Imperials don't mind recruiting them, like Mirialans or Chiss (though I think the Chiss Hegemony presents its own problems). Yers, the Empire is pro-human, so it's much harder for near-humans to rise the ranks, but it's possible.
>>
It takes you a moment to cobble together a response. Words appear to be dancing around just out of reach. With a little mental gymnastics, you manage something passable. You hope. “Wha? Ohhhhh. No, I’m good. Nothing to worry about. Just helping Tons out. Not makin’ a move on the Zeta gal. No need to, heheh, get green with envy.” Genius, Otto. Absolute genius. Uncle will have a sensible chuckle when he hears that one. Dad would have at least cracked a smile. Tadia, much to your surprise and slight horror, does not take the flirtatious comment so gently.

She simply rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. “Cute. I don’t even need a comeback, your face is already burning.” Poodoo, is your face really that red? Well, if it wasn’t before, it is now. Shot down like Tons trying to pull a Tallon Roll. You take the rebuke with good grace and nod your head. “Yeh, I deserved tha’. My bad, I ain’t entirely sober. Might turn in fer the night.” You rise to your feet, and find that the ground is nowhere to be found.

Oh, wait, there it is. Hello, floor. What’re you doing slamming me in the face? What did I do to you? You grimace and look up. “Meant to do that.” You insist, but Tadia is simply shaking her head, a bemused smile on her face. She reaches down and tries to lift you up onto your feet, but you’ve been lifting far too much for to have much of a chance with that. “What do you eat, skipper? Mandalorian Iron?” You simply grin in response. “Huh. I didn’t realize your eyes matched your tattoos.” You observe aloud. How did you never notice that?

>>43065317
After a moment, Flames hops over the counter and takes your other arm, helping Tadia haul you up to your feet. The old clone is a lot stronger than he looks. “You kids play nice. Phennir, if Quint gets into the brandy, break his fingers.” Flames says and nods for Tadia to lead the way. Clearly, he’s taken it upon himself to help you get back to your bunk safely. Damn right he has, you think to yourself. He’s the one who gave you that damned spiced wine. Terrible stuff. You’re never drinking it again. Never.

As the two drag you back to the sleeping quarters, Flames regales the two of you with the story you’ve been waiting for. The Battle of Geonosis. He was there, a bona-fide first generation clone. He tells you about the culture shock, the disgust at how dirty Geonosis is opposed to the ocd cleanliness of Tipoca City. How easy it was to begin to hate the Geonosians who bombarded his brothers from above with their sonic cannons. How he dragged his pod-brother two kilometres to get him to a medic.

He even makes sure to remind you that you’re probably not going to remember this fantastic story. He leaves you in the doorway of your cabin with a salute and a sly grin. Damned old fool. Tadia helps you to your bunk, before realizing she’s never going to get you up onto the top bunk. She pauses for a moment, frowning, before pushing you towards Tons’s bunk instead. You get comfortable under the covers as she tucks you in, and sleepily murmur a thanks. She turns to leave, but you call out.

"No, seriously. Thank you, Tadia. We would never have made it this far without you. Yer a credit to the Empire."

She waves off your thanks. "Please. Someone has to keep these miscreants from tearing each other apart." She scoffs, but as she leaves you can see the smile on her face.

As you drift off to sleep, your last thoughts are "Today was a good day."
