It's that time again /tg/. Rev up those art programs, because its time to build world of colorful critters. The goal of this Game is to see far the evolution of these critters go, and to also see how many days we can keep this running of course. As GM, I'll be actively working to make phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also throw in some random events to keep this interesting.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Adding size increments or names is optional, but would be appreciated.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic
• Every 3-4 hours I'll add an update Phylogeny Chart to track changes.
• Every 12-24 hours I'll be rolling for a Random World Event.
• Have fun

The Setting:
The planet is most similar to Earth during the mid to late ordovician period. The planet just recent experienced a minor extinction event due to an arsenic poison bloom that had spread over the oceans.

Fortunately, with time the poison became to dissipate, and the oceans return to a somewhat purified state once more. With that, life surges on.

The picture is relating to the Phylogeny of life here just after the extinction event. I will be updating the chart again very soon with all the new life.

In an attempt to escape the growing toxicity in the oceans, the lumpy shell Bzol begins to develop the photosensitive cells into a basic pit sight organ as well as a set of gill like openings near the neck along the shell to allow it to process the oxygen rich hair as it makes its way to the shore and harvests along the colony algea

As the first few foragers crawl onto the shores, predators follow behind. The Smell Barf develops a second, smaller pair of legs that allow it to skitter quickly for hunting in shallow seas and short excursions onto land. Their frontal plating starts to spread over their bodies to protect them from rivals and the tail gets slightly longer, though that's mostly for decoration.

The latest Phylogeny Chart as of 10:30 AM CST. Enjoy, and I will be adding all these new critters later this afternoon.

Some items of note about the world:
• As plants slowing begin to proliferate on the shore, the dead and decaying bodies of long deceased plants create a new kind of earthy substance: soil
• Similarly, the swathes of dead animals from the recent extinction, have decomposed and left the shallow water seas with an abundance of fertile proteins and substrates for organisms to take root in.
• The first rivers of the world begin to take shape, craving the landscape towards the coasts. Unlike the oceans though, these waters are devoid of the majority of latent toxins and salt of course.
• At night the waters of the ocean give off a faint glow now thanks to the abundance of Glowshell Mulus.
• The air on land is still arid and toxic to any humanoids that exist today, but is now capable of sustaining those with primitive methods of respirating air.

As the first rivers start to appear, a few of the Fishlike Hawa start to find their way into them. They have wider, pointed tails and sharper noses to help them swim against the currents and through these safer waters.

The Arm Flaps Cerar developed a more defined musculature around a simple hollow set of bones allowing it it to skip across open patches of water through the air and giving it the ability to fly short distances. With this new ability it also developed a simple sensory organ to let it fully navigate back to safety based off of shapes and vague colors

The new centiCerar further develops a new sensory organ that allows it to smell through it's body, it also has the effect of allowing it to resperate through it's skin. It can now survive in air.

This little Mulu has devoloped a sort of sucker mouth where it can suck up dead plant matter and smaller algee/plankton from surfaces. This has led to two primitive "arms" with small soft hooks on them that makes it possible to hold onto things in the water without drifting away.
It has also devoloped samll antennas that can detect movement in the water near it.

The Centicerar develop further (apperently with retractable tounge), and now use their powerful jaws to break through the hard bottoms of the Chlorophyalgea. They use the empty cells for shelter, and lay their eggs in them. The relationship causes minimal damage to the Chlorophyalgea, and in fact the Cerar living within provide a new source of CO2 for plant respiration. While the Cerars violently attack any herbivore that may try to eat its home.

The Glided Braf continues life in the oceans, feeding on unwary schools of swarm cerar or solitary derpy mulus.

The Glider Braf has also begun to spawn lesser and lesser with each iteration. Slowly, only the strongest and largest of these species survive. Now, the average Glider Braf is easily twice the size of most of the aquatic organisms.

As an Apex Predator of the ocean, the creature has begun to breed by giving birth as opposed to multiple spawnings from eggs, to ensure the safety of younger Glider Brafs from scavenging animals.

Clumping together and producing so quickly, the Red Algae begin t meld into one large structure that grows now by budding. With a more porous outer layer it draws in nutrients through a filter feed type reaction with the currents along the sea floor, taking nutrients from both the flowing water and drawing it from the sea floor where it makes its home.

It has now gotten a bit larger (about 4 inches), evolved a larger mouth in order to suck of surfaces for food, and with that a larger pair of hooks to hold onto things better. It's antennas have also evolved more, and can now detect movements further away and more accuratly, it does move slower now however due to it's increase in size.

It now also posses the ability to latch on larger creatures like the Glided Braf for example >>43052004 . While latched onto the Braf it can be kept relative safe from other predetors.

[Spoiler] I am hoping that it will develop a sybiotic relationship with larger animals (much like the Cleaner fish in our world) So Braf Anon it's up to you if the Glided Braf develops a defence for these (even thoug thay are practilly harmless against it) or if the fish ebraces a symbiotic relation with the Sulu (I combined the words suckign and Mulu, god I am clever :P )

By all means, go ahead. If the creature isn't bigger than the braf and can pick off food particles to stave off disease, they'd probably be all the more happy for it.

They do still have toxin glands on their skin though, so they might want to stick to the fins more often.

As the Tube Algae push up through the upper layers, they need to capture more sunlight. They begin to slowly expand out in broad, flat shapes that somewhat resemble leaves. This allows them to gather extra energy.

To keep themselves out of the mouths of Brafs, the Flap Bzol develops larger wings and a longer tail. They can flap their way quickly along the ocean floor and use their tails to steer themselves quickly.

Side note, should I be evolving my own critters? I'm waiting for people to make their own additions, but they seem to be ignored.

By living in a symbiotic reltionship with the Gilded Braf the Sulu has devolped a natural resistance to the toxin, it can be seen by the small purple dots that show other animals that the Sulu has a little bit of toxic in it.

It has also devoloped a pair of soft brushes/scoops in order to push algees/parasites/dead skin etc into or near it's mouth where it has also now got many small "tentacles" that can grab larger chunks of food and slowly break it down into smaller pieces in order to be able to eat it.

So far the Gilded Braf has avoided to eat Sulus that craw into it's mouth.
When a Braf has younglings a Sulu often tries to latch onto one of them early on in order to spread itself onto it.

The Braf has over time evolved venom glands of its own, to produce its own toxin, this venom glows, attracting prey towards it. In addition, its stinger now has a spring mechanism, allowing it to shoot out towards the sea, attaching itself to whatever it hits and spew out toxins. The Spring-tailed Braf also has grown in size and a new pair of legs to support its weight on the ocean floor.

An offshoot of symbiotic algae growing off the energy of the Bzol becomes much, much larger than it's other parts. The segments of the algae "cells" become much thicker, and fan out to intake as much extra light as it can while being stuck to the seabed.

Considering almost nothing on the planet has eyes, using bright colors as a lure seems kind of defunct. To rectify this, these flower-like organs produce an attractive pheromone, that hopefully draws small herbivores closer to their sluggish host.

Also the colors become less garish because they were hurting my eyes while i was drawing it. No offense to who made it.

The Green Braf has evolved a tail with a spring and corkscrew mechanism, designed to pierce through the thick wall of the Chlorophyalgea, and then corkscrewing the tail over the layers of the Chlorophyalgea, until it breaches to the top, where the end of the tail, capable of doing photosynthesis unravels, soaking in the sunlight. It then stays hooked at the bottom of the Chlorophyalgea, eating any that come near. It also has developed a filter that excretes out the toxins from the Chlorophyalgea and any poisonous animal it eats.

The Spring-Tailed Braf has evolved. Its size is now equal to the Braf Glider. It now is camouflaged, becoming the same color as the sand of the ocean floor. It also has fully replaced the vent system, for larger venom production to administer. The venom is now more deadly, being a mixture of different compounds rather than just neurotoxins, making it more deadly to organisms once immune, it also makes the venom give a faint aroma, bringing prey in. Its stinger has also morphed to be similar to the Majestic Flap Bzol in both color and shape, to be used for hunting the predators of the Majestic Flap Bzol.

The Spire Drill Braf is now omnivorous, letting it eat the algae of the Chlorophyalgea via the spires on its corkscrew like tail that were primarily used for hooking itself securely, draining it like a straw. The spires also now shoot a spike like projectile that hosts the Drill Braf's eggs into the Centicerar's egg, which slowly digests the Centicerar inside. It additionally has gained ribbon like strips on its mouth covered in adhesive liquid with an aroma to catch prey.

When a Spire Drill Braf is living in comfortable conditions, their ribbons are replaced with this:>>43054175. The red thing is covered in spires similar to the corkscrew tail covered in adhesive liquid with a more sweeter aroma.

Some of the glow Mulu and accompanying variants have found their way up river into the fresh water location near the Tree Lichen and Extra Leafy Lichen where they started to burrow into the softer earth. Nearing the root system these small burrowing colonies rather than devouring the roots, started to work at cleaning the roots and fertilizing them with waste material.

They utilize it by hunting the Spire drill Braf, and then covering the walls of the tunnels the brafs formed. As the Leafy Lichen adapts mostly undisturbed, due to lack of herbivores on the surface, it becomes more centralized and growing larger.

Additionally to spread itself further over more of the surface it now produces new Lichen plants at the base of the leaves. When the new plants become too heavy they fall and are scattered by the wind away from the original plant thus keeping them from over populating.

So, yeah some notes:
• There will be a Random Event at 9AM tomorrow morning CST.
• The charts are getting a little big in filesize and since 4chan has a size limit, I'm gonna have to cut these into two pieces; one for plant organisms, and one for animal organisms.
• The Lichen branch and the Red Algea branch of organisms are going to get their own individual clades from this point forward.
• Red Algea organisms are now know as Spongalgea, and Lichen are known as Lyheptidoalgea.

With some of their cousins taking to the air, the Flexing Tail Braf is no longer the only predator above the surface. It now has both competition and something to fear. In order to watch out for Gliders, it's eyes become more advanced and start to develop stalks, allowing them a wider field of view.

The line between plant and animal begins to blur more each generation. Very prone to mutation due to algae and bzol cells developing together in it's egg sack, one species arises that finds a dominant trait to simply merge the two organisms on a cellular level.

The chitinous shell of this abomination of nature is now comprised highly of plant material. The creature's own cells now produce a healthy dose of chlorophyl. With much of it's energy coming from sunlight, oxygen, and minerals in the soil via the creature's roots, pumped directly into it by it's now questionably separate plant cells, it's mouth becomes semi-vestigial. As it stands now, evolution has been...mostly unimpeded so far, so simple sentience, like not killing/abandoning offspring would be tolerable at this time.

Temporary or short-distance flights would be likely for the Sky-Glider Brafs too at this point. Really its the 13ft length that I'm against. I'd say they get around 3-4 ft at max.

No worries, anon. The intelligence isn't exactly a development towards sentience, it's just nutrients not really having anywhere better to go, since with the oceans warming up a larger body will be detrimental for energy conservation.

As for the size, it's supposed to be the equivalent for what would pass as a shark. If it's a little too big, natural selection should be able to kill off larger species and retain smaller, more efficient versions of the Ocean Glide Braf.

Also, I'm not sure about the sky-glider Braf, and I also think it's too big of a leap as well. Maybe if it can sustain short flight like flying fish. For true flight, they would have to force themselves onto land first.

The Sulu has now developed thin spiderlike legs in order to crawl around on the various Brafs they now "clean". This has lead to the removal of the front "hooks" that it used to have before. They have instead evolved into a pair of primitive eyes that it uses to identiefy the common orange colour of the Brafs. And in order to better hide from predetors that are brave enough to get close to a braf they have evoled an orange stripe on thier backs in order to blend in.

Other changes to the Sulu is also the following:

>Can reproduce asexually, wich makes it easer for it to spread

Good morning. I bring disparging news in regards of the planet's near future.

My probes have recently detected volcanic activity from what was previously thought to be a great mountain, thought to had been created from continental drift. This mountain, name Mt. Khornus is a long dormant supervolcano comparable in size the Sol System's planet, Mars. When it erupts, it will likely trigger every other volcanic site on the planet to erupt in reaction.

While I do not directly intervene, should it truly erupt I have taken the measure of collecting the base organisms of each clade that's grown on the planet thus far.

This will be a Random Event/Extinction Event based on a d6 roll

1-2: World of Fire - Mass Extinction Event, that'll impact all life.
3-4: World of Ash - Mass Extincton Event, most life will be impacted
5: Snowball World - Ice Age sets in, with a significant impact on Terrestrial and Plant Life.
6: False Alarm - The Volcano is not the great destroyer I assumed it to be.

The Sand-Speckled Braf in response to the Carnivorous Bzol, has evolved the corkscrew stingers on the bottom of its body. The venom in these stingers have a new compound that causes rapid decay of algae and the sticky mucus. The spikes on the bottom of the Braf is covered in spires that inject this venom onto the algae.

Khronus' detonation rocks the planet as millions of tons of ash is belched from the Supervolcano, shrouding the world in darkness. Magma sprawls over the landmasses of the world, expanding their reach, while simultaneously incinerating all life in its path.

Global temperatures drop by 5 - 6ºC in span of a century after its eruption. 70 - 80% of all sunlight is blotted out for several millennia. A few sanctuaries around the equatorial region of Evo shelter those organism that do survive the cataclysmic event.

As a result of the clash of the newly changed atmosphere thanks to plant life, and the massive release of sulfuric-acid and methane, a new mico-organism has spawned, but rather then a carbon based life form in the depths of the primordial Ocean, it is a Silicon based life form in t-butanol pools dotted among the planets surface.

Pros of being Silicon based: Both resistant to extreme temperatures(hot and cold) and pressures

Cons of being Silicon based: Allergic to water

Neturals of being Silicon based: Crystal Structures life form, as opposed to being cellular
