My bad

You leap down and start to drag the massive beast back to the makeshift camp. Your muscles are already aching severely from a full day of non-stop trials, but you press on. A single one of it's claws is enough to encompass your chest, and if you hadn't killed it with such a precision shot, the battle would have been terrible. A single swipe would have been your end. It's a difficult trek back, but you make it, dripping with sweat.

Kneeling down, you get to work with gutting and cleaning the beast. It's incredibly difficult to separate the pelt from the body with your kunai. On more than one instance you either slip, or get hooked on a strong bit of fiber. It tears the pelt at the edges, causing it to look frayed and ripped as you take it away. To your left is a small pile of tiger fur, from your mistakes.

For some reason, you decide to leave the pelt attached to the skull. It might make a cool helmet and cowl, after all.

Gutting it and removing the pelt were the easy parts. Now you'll have to prepare sections of meat for the morning. You've used a large boulder to lay the flesh down without becoming too dirty, and wrap it in long leaves to prevent it from becoming infest with insects. At least, too many instects. In fact, as it is, bugs are swarming the area and threatening to completely ruin your hard work. You curse to yourself, unsure of what to do, until Ai steps in next to you and starts to spray the air with a small bottle. The insects fly away.

She looks well rested, if a bit worse for wear. She wordlessly goes back to the tree and sits down, taking a deep breath before speaking. "Where's Kichiro?"

You finish preparing the meat. "He's supposed to be out hunting, or something. I happened to catch this guy while he was gone."

She nods. "I see."

You step over to Ai, and sit next to her at the base of the tree. "How are you holding up through all of this?"

To your complete lack of surprise, Ai answers flatly. "I'm well. I feel much better after the sleep."

You chuckle. "That's good, but it's not exactly what I meant. I mean, you don't seem stressed or anything. Aren't you worried we might fail or something? Do you think we can do this?" She turns to you, and blinks with doe-like eyes. The way she glances at you makes it seem as though she had never even considered the prospect of failure. She slowly shakes her head. "It's a possibility, that much is true. However, I don't believe that I can do anything but succeed."

You look at her with a raised eyebrow, and chuckle. "That confident, huh?"

She looks down at the ground for a few seconds, and concentrates. "That's not what I mean. It's more like, I don't have a choice. Failure isn't an option in the most literal of terms. You see?"

Kichiro suddenly comes through the forest, holding several sticks with fish speared on the ends. He also has several canteens on his belt, presumably full of water. You look over to Ai. It's getting to be the early in the morning now, roughly 4 AM. "We'll talk about this later, we have to get ready for the day. Let's eat!"

Kichiro stops, and stares. "Is that a fucking tiger skeleton?"

Kichiro's mouth is wide open. "I can see the cut in it's head right there. That's pretty amazing, Takeshi. Your aim comes in handy pretty often, ya' know?"

Ai nods. "I feel that under pressure we've responded accordingly to the forest. We're more alert, and more capable as a team than ever before."

Kichiro starts a fire with a jutsu, sticking fish over it. "Let's eat first, we don't wanna lose this momentum."

You all sit down and fashion a spit for tiger meat, and split some of it between the three of you. It's tough and stringy, but it fills you up. The fish is tastier, as kichiro happened to bring a small vial of seasoning. "I used to stay out in the woods all the time." He explains.

After breakfast, the sun has come up. It's the second day, early morning. What do you want to do?

You stand, ready to get moving, and turn to your friends. "Okay, here's the plan. Teams that have acquired both of the scrolls will be coming towards the tower from every direction, all day. What we're going to do is go there, set up traps, and capture one of these teams. It's more likely than not that we'll run into a team that's tired from fighting to win their scroll, and we'll have the advantage. Plus the walk will be shorter to the tower, so there's less likelihood of this very thing happening to us. Sound good?"

Ai nods. Kichiro gives you a thumbs up, and the three of you get moving. You rapidly dart through the trees, feeling the benefits of a full stomach. Eventually the tower comes in distance, and you move backwards a small bit before starting to set up traps in several spots with Ai. You make sure that the traps are set to capture, rather than injure. Ropes and wire are critical in the construction, and you both don't have very much left until you can disassemble the traps.

The three of you leap up into the trees, and lie in wait.

After about twenty minutes of waiting, you see some movement in the distance ahead, in the trees. You hadn't noticed before because you were looking down at the traps. Squinting, you barely make out what appears to be a squad of three Genin, also resting in the trees. You can't tell who they are or where they're from, here, however.

What are you going to do?

You think for a brief moment on how to act. Within seconds you've got a plan, and you quietly make your way over to Ai and whisper the plan to her. She nods, and silently makes her way to Kichiro and relays the same message. You've decided to have you be the one to discern who they are, so that you can use False Sound to relay the information on your next move to your team. Ai and Kichiro stay in position, and you prepare yourself for a brief one man scouting trip.

You silently move through the branches, using your chakra to precisely control your impacts as you land. You silently stick the the walls like an insect leaping from point to point, your hands and feet aglow. You stop once you get fairly close, and glance up. It's Rokuro, your classmate's team. He's a water specialist from what you remember. His team consists of Chiaki, a hard working, studious girl with medium length brown hair from your class. She often wears a white hat to protect her eyes from the sun, and also because she apparently loves to garden. Despite her innocent hobby you remember her as a bit of a bully. You're not sure what Jutsu she uses.

Other than her, is Masaki. He's extremely quiet, some people even believing him to be mute. Apparently his test scores were off the charts at the Academy though, so you can't underestimate him.

It's a tough looking team from the Leaf Village. What do you do?

You smirk. "Sorry, Rokuro. You need to win this. If there's a chance that you have the scroll I need, I have to take it."

You flick through familiar handsigns and preform the False Sound Jutsu, casting it on your own team so that you can communicate to them mentally through illusions. You inform them of your plan to lead the team through the traps, and for Kichiro and Ai to attack them with all they have when the opportunity shows itself.

You don't even need to look back to confirm that they're prepared. Now all you have to do is act the role of the injured shinobi, in order to draw them out. You look down at your clothes and sigh. "Oh well, I guess I can buy more once I get promoted.."

Pulling out a kunai, you rip and tear at your clothing, as well as rub dirt into it. Making small cuts, you draw out some blood on the exposed flesh to make it look like you were thrown against the dirt harshly. It's only superficial, but it will suffice with a bit of acting.

You stumble out into the field, gripping your bloody arm and pretending that it's limp. You quickly look all around you, and yell. "Guys!? Guys! Where are you? Ai! Kichiro?!? Oh shit...this is bad.. this is bad.."

Sure enough, the three Leaf shinobi leap down. Rokuro on the left, Masaki in the middle, and Chiaki on the right. You turn tail and run away, yelling. "Shit! Are you kidding!?"

They chase you as you sprint through the foliage, still maintaining a slight false limp. None of them seem to be particularly faster than you, and you feel as though you're going to make it through the traps before they ever lay a hand on you. That is, until a strong breeze by your left side makes you do a double-take. In an instant, somehow Chiaki has appeared directly beside you, and is sprinting. She has a grin on as she runs, and a hand to hold her hat down. "Takeshi, where are you going, eh!?"

She leaps forward and brings a kick around, forcing you to duck and roll under it. You leap forward and reassert yourself, getting immediately back into a sprint before using Shunshin to close the distance. You make your way through several of the traps.

Looking back, you can see Chiaki step into a rope trap, and it snatches her up by the ankle and dangles her upside down. She yells in anger as her team comes through, and look up. Rokuro frowns. "Aw jeez, she's gonna be pissed."

Masaki simply looks to the ground and shakes his head back and forth, in defeat.

Ai and Kichiro above are already flicking through handseals to use jutsu.

Kichiro launches a huge fireball, and Ai lets loose a ball of electricity. It seems that Rokuro and Masaki are out of luck, at first.

There's several explosions in front of you, and when the dust clears, something shocking is in front of you. Masaki, Rokuro, and Chiaki standing in front of you in formation. Completely unharmed. Rokuro, from the left, chuckles. Ai and Kichiro land beside you, an Ai comments. "The girl used Wind jutsu to block my lightning. Rokuro used Water jutsu to block the fireball."

You get a good look at everyone. Rokuro has light brown hair, that falls forward slightly. It's a little spiky, and he's wearing a black long sleeve shirt, with a v-neck, and a fishnet undershirt. He has standard navy blue shinobi pants and sandals. Masaki is wearing a red baseball cap, oddly enough, and a casual seeming red and white jacket. He has a black shirt underneath, and standard shinobi pants and sandals. Chiaki is wearing a mint green tanktop with an open, dark green flak jacket overtop. She has dark green shorts.

Rokuro smiles, and crosses his arms. "Oh look, it's Ai, Takeshi, and..uh.."

Kichiro opens his mouth, but Rokuro holds up a finger. "Nono, don't tell me. I'll get it. For now, just listen. The three of you have made an interesting choice in engaging us. It means that you're in need of a scroll. As are we. Instead of telling each other what we have, I think we should just fight it out. It can't hurt to have two of the same, after all. Less competition.

You whip a senbon from your tool pack and fling it towards Rokuro's eye. "I agree!" The other Genin holds up a hand. He pinches the flying senbon between two fingers as it stops dead in front of his pupil. He smiles. "I'm glad you feel that way, Takeshi. Don't get too eager, now. I'm the one that you trained your aim with in the first place. You may have been learning how to act, but at the same time, I learned the appropriate reaction.."

He flings the needle into the dirt next to him. "There's a counter for every situation. I'm afraid I've found yours."

Masaki holds up a hand. He points to Kichiro, and points at Rokuro. He points from Chiaki to Ai. He points from himself to you. Chiaki nods, and in a flash, she's upon Ai. They're clashing with their kunai as she's pushed back, and the sounds of their fighting pushes off to the side. Rokuro forms several handseals and preforms the Water Bullet jutsu, sending several small attacks to Kichiro, who leaps away to dodge. Masaki is slowly walking towards you.

What do you do?

I find this Masaki guys instructions to be suspicious as fuck. This seems like the kind of bait and switch we'd try to use while totally contradicting it with false sound.

I hope we're not about to fall right into his hands.

You mentally issue the command to Ai and Kichiro that you're going to trick Masaki and Chiaki into hitting Rokuro, via their own attacks. Kichiro rushes forward and keeps Rokuro busy, dodging torrents of water and various shuriken. You sprint past Masaki, and he gives chase. Ai and Chiaki clash overhead, passing by and landing in front of you. Spinning on your heel, you draw a kunai and fling it at Masaki before drawing another. Hopefully that will draw his aggression enough to bait out an attack. You wait patiently, but the boy in the red cap doesn't seem to retaliate at all, aside from dodging.

In fact, he's watching behind you, where Ai and Chiaki are fighting. In front of you, Masaki speeds through several handseals like you've never seen before. His hands a literal blur, and the sound of electricity crackling overhead makes you leap to the side, thinking that an impending attack was coming.

Instead, there's a flash, and Ai cries out. You watched a small streak of lightning come from the treetops. Apparently Masaki has some sort of lightning jutsu that attacks vertically. Kichiro disengages Rokuro and drags Ai up to her feet, dashing back beside you as everyone forms up.

Again, your enemy is in front of you, in the same formation. Ai's left arm has gone numb somewhat, but she looks determined as ever.

It seems that they had figured out what you were planning, somehow. Maybe your opponents are more intelligent than you gave them credit for. Chiaki brushes her hair to the side. "Masaki..Let's me and you finish this, I'm getting somewhat bored."

The capped boy nods. He flicks through several more handsigns at an inhuman speed, and inhales deeply. Once he's done with the seals, he holds his palms up, and Chiaki leaps up and lands on them. Her feet glow blue as she uses chakra to balance herself with ease, although it must take considerable strength from Masaki to be able to hold her. Chiaki flicks through several handsigns as well, and they both exhale at the same time. A combination of fire and wind style creates a wall of fire that's racing towards your squad.

You notice that Masaki can use two elements. Fire and Lightning. Not great.

It was too late last night to bitch about it then, but the original idea I had in mind when posting this was have Ai and Kiricho slowly bring their fights closer together, then suddenly switch targets. Ai would use a lightning jutsu to counter Roruko's water, and Kiricho would use fire against Chiaki's wind. In the meantime, our only job would be keep Masaki distracted long enough for Ai and Kiricho to powerfuck their new opponents.

It's the night after a mission, and Hanto has decided to take the team out to Ichiraku's Ramen in order to celebrate. Ai declined, and Kichiro quickly scarfed down his food and left. Now that the day is drawing to a close, and you're draining the last of the broth from your bowl, the city is surprisingly active. Once you think about it, you realize that it's the weekend, and people are probably going to be celebrating all night. Celebrating what? The opportunity to celebrate, of course!

You set down your bowl, and Hanto pays your tab with ease. He has several empty glasses of liquor next to him, and looks a bit frazzled. He yawns, and looks at the watch on his wrist. "Aw, jeez..My sister. I forgot to pick her up. She's going to be pissed..Oh well, she'll find her way back."

You wipe the corner of your mouth. "Your sister? You mean that tough girl I've heard about?"

He nods, bringing up a glass to his lips and tipping it slightly. He exhales smoothly, and the scent of hot liquor flies up through your nose and makes your skin crawl. Hanto nods. "That's right, Yasu is her name. She's...She takes after my mother. And my father. She's a handful, I should say."

"HANTO!"

Your sensei's head drops, and he grumbles. "Shit..Don't look at her, Takeshi. Maybe if we ignore her she'll go away.."

Moments later, a rock shatters against the back of Hanto's head. You flinch and look across the street, and you see a shocking sight.

Yasu, Hanto's sister. She's a couple of years older than you, very clearly. She's tall and built powerfully, with clearly defined biceps, and a washboard core. She's wearing what seems to be a combination of armor and exercise gear. Brown spats shorts and boots. She has a long brown ponytail, and is wearing her Headband on her forehead. Her shirt reveals her midsection, and you can't help but feel a little intimidated by the amazon esque teen. In fact, as she approaches, you can see that she's nearly just as tall as your Sensei.

She scoffs. "Brother, really? You spend your nights getting drunk with children, rather than taking care of your sister as you should have been? Ugh.. I had to walk back all the way to the Leaf from my mission!"

Hanto scratches the stubble on his chin, still not turning around. "Why didn't Dad go with you, or your squad?"

She crosses her arms, and laughs lightly with pride. As she looks to the left, her ponytail swings around. "He trusts me enough to do C and D rank missions on my own. But even so, a young girl shouldn't walk the roads alone at night."

Hanto pinches his nose. "Yasu..Please. Just go home."

She looks down at you, and frowns. "Who's this? One of your students?"

You nod. "My name's Takeshi, nice to me-"

She waves a hand at you, prompting you to stop speaking. "I was asking Hanto."

Your sensei turns around, waggling a finger in front of his sister's face. "Hey! Don't be rude to my students. I'll have you know that Takeshi here is a very capable shinobi, and he won't take this sort of sass from you!"

You blink. "I won't?"

She uncrosses her arms and places her hands on her hips. "He won't?"

Uh oh.

I'd like to see Takeshi visiting Shikadai to play shogi, and then failing to get Mirai or Kurenai to teach him genjutsu while he's there.

Hanto turns around and stands up, wobbling slightly. He grips your shoulder and hefts you up, so that you're also on your feet. You're a full head shorter than both of the people next to you, and you feel the tension of an age-old sibling rivalry forming in the air. In fact, you're pretty positive that you'd be turning around and walking away if it wasn't for Hanto's iron grip.

He slaps your back, causing you to stumble slightly and step in front of Yasu. Hanto chuckles. "If you feel like you need a man to protect you on your way home, look no further. For now..I have some business to take care of. Good luck, Takeshi!"

Your sensei vanishes, and the owner of the Ramen shop sticks his head out. "Hey! You didn't pay for your drinks!"

The owner looks to Yasu. She scoffs. "I didn't eat here."

The owner looks down to you. You issue a sigh of defeat and place the money on the counter, and look back to Yasu. "Well..I should probably head home. Uh..Nice to meet you, Yasu."

Spinning on your heel, you try to escape. It doesn't fly though, and she pulls you back, in front of her. "Hold up. Do you know what sort of distance I just went all on my own? I'm tired! You should at least be enough of a man to escort me home, you know that? Of course, it would figure, with you being my Brother's student.."

You rub the back of your head. "Why is everyone so mean to Hanto? I don't understand it at all."

She frowns. "I bet you think he's a good person, huh? Well he's not. He's a jerk. It's amazing they even let him in the village, still."

She starts to walk away, and you're intrigued, so you follow. "What? What'd he do that was so bad?"

Her long legs allow her to make big strides. It's difficult to keep up at a walking pace. She continues. "It's more like a whole bunch of things. He doesn't care about anyone's feelings but himself!"

You frown, knowing that can't be true. Your sensei is generally a kind, but harsh man. "Well, I don't think that-"

Your shoulder slams into someone, and both of you trip up and fall all over each other. After tumbling in the dirt and dust for a few moments, you stand up, and across from you is a very angry Boruto. The Hokage's son. He stomps around and wipes the dirt off of his clothes. "Hey! What's the big idea, huh!? Bumping into me like that, I should teach you a lesson!"

Yasu chuckles. "Wow, that was smooth, Takeshi.."

Next to Boruto, is Sarada. She pushes up on her glasses, and flatly greets you. "Hello, Takeshi."

Boruto suddenly grips you by the shirt, and lifts you a couple of inches off the ground. Holy crap, you didn't know he was this strong. He yells. "So do you want me to kick your ass now, or later so you won't see it coming!?"

Boruto slowly tilts his head back down, and glares at you with fury. "You're gonna regret that."

He thrusts his palm out, and it strikes you in the chest. The force of it knocks you onto your rear, and you're shocked by his speed. Sarada steps next to you. "Takeshi, I think you should just go home. Boruto has a big bark, but it matches his bite."

Yasu nods. "I get the feeling this kid's out of your league. Just give up, Takeshi."

Did he say Shadow Clone Jutsu? Isn't that one of the techniques that your Sensei mentioned was inside of the Forbidden scroll? You'd always heard Boruto was talented, but you never knew that he would have enough chakra to preform this jutsu. Each of the clones in front of you is capable of using every jutsu that Boruto knows, although they come down in one hit like all other clones.

You put your fists up. "Let's go, if you really want to. I'm not one to back down a challenge like this, no matter how senseless it is.."

Boruto growls, and the four clones charge forward at you. You draw a kunai and attempt to defend, but each of the clones is so difficult in taijutsu that it's difficult to land a hit, much less stay on your feet. You dodge and move backwards rapidly, forced by the onslaught.

In the distance is the real Boruto, simply smiling.

He aims it at you, and presses a button on the side of the machine. Suddenly, a massive gust of wind blasts your way, and both you and Yasu have to leap out of the way to avoid a scythe of air. It crashes into the street, leaving a gash in the road.

Yasu stomps forward. "What the hell's the big idea!? You're getting ME involved!?"

She reaches around to her back, to the item that you've been trying to avoid looking at since you first saw it. It's a wooden sheath for a colossal sword, as tall as Yasu herself. She pulls off a latch..

Sarada steps forward, in front of Boruto. "Stop. There's no need for this. We're all going to get in serious trouble if we keep this up. They might not let us participate at the Chunin exams!"

Boruto stares at you with clear hateful intent, and walks away. Sarada silently follows, sighing.

You look up at Yasu, and she latches her sword back. You chuckle. "Well..I protected you from that idiot, right?"

She chuckles. "Idiot.." and leaves. She walks off by herself down an ally, and you feel it's best not to pursue her. You go home.

The Chunin exams are soon, and you can't let yourself be shown up.

The wall of fire from Masaki and Chiaki's attack is heading towards your team at a high speed. It looks deadly, and you can already feel the heat searing your skin as it closes the distance. You leap up and above, grabbing onto a tree branch and pulling yourself up. Below you, the forest is ablaze, and the heat and smoke blind you. You put your forearm over your eyes and crouch down, silently praying to yourself for the risky move you're about to undertake.

You use Shunshin and dash up into the air blindly, and sure enough, the great updraft of heat is enough to slow your descent to a fine control. Your glide down into the trees and dash back down to the forest floor, finding your position in cover behind the enemy. You're not sure if they saw you, but Rokuro is turned towards you, actively searching for survivors.

As for what Ai and Kichiro did to escape, you're not sure. You were too busy defending yourself.

Ahead, you can see the three of them. What are you going to do?

You begin to poison your weapons. In the distance you can hear them speaking. Chiaki starts. "Lost visual contact with the enemy squad. Rokuro, establish a perimeter, will you? I'll begin to sense for movement."

Rokuro nods, and turns to Masaki. "You should rest for a few moments. Just keep lookout. When they return again, we should strike with precision. It's clear that they're capable of subverting direct attacks as a group." The silent boy gives him a thumbs up, and turns towards the forest. Rokuro begins to form familiar hand signs and he summons forth several water clones. You know that it took him extra chakra to do it without a water source, but apparently he's been practicing. Five clones are present, and the fan out and start to search the area.

Rokuro steps over to Masaki, and pulls out the needles. The capped Genin is preforming handseals rapidly. You can hear him comment. "They're poisoned. We're working with limited time here, folks. Masaki, I think it's time that we start to pull out the big guns."

The silent boy nods, still forming handseals. He looks angry.

Chiaki and Masaki leap backwards, and Rokuro digs his fists into the earth. He crouches, and states the name of his technique. "Earth Style!: Mausoleum Dumpling!" He strains and struggles, but soon, starts to pull the very earth from beneath his feet. It's easily a boulder the size of a house, with the shattered remains of trees that have broken or fallen from the shift. Rokuro hefts it over his head, and tosses it straight up into the air.

Behind him, Masaki leaps forward, and yells the name of his own jutsu. This is the first time you've seen him speak. "Fire release!: Great Dragon Fire Jutsu!" He exhales a massive bullet of flame, in the shape of the head of a dragon. It punctures through the colossal stone and shatters it into pieces. Then he shoots another burst of fire. And another. Soon the stone is raining down upon you like a meteor storm, and the forest is being completely destroyed all around you.

It looks as if a refrigerator sized meteor is going to crush you, but it's blasted away by a fireball from your right. Kichiro yells, and motions for you to follow him. "COME ON!"

You're reminded of what generations of shinobi have gone through in the past on the battlefield, and you're filled with pride for being in this moment, and participating in something so elite. The first to come out are Kichiro and Ai, and they're forming handsigns before they even land. Kichiro hits the ground and inhales deeply, spitting out a number of fireballs using the Phoenix Flower jutsu. That's probably what you saw earlier, now that you think about it. On the other end, Ai preforms her Lightning Ball jutsu, and throws the orb. It seems to strike whatever gets within several feet of it as it flies through the air, small spears of lightning shooting out to destroy the water clones as it passes. Rokuro has to leap to dodge it, but he still gets shocked in the thigh, burning his pants.

Chiaki vanishes in a burst of wind backwards, and flips repeatedly to dodge the fireballs. She manages to weave her way through each one, until Kichiro finishes the jutsu. She charges him, and they clash in a flurry of punches and kicks. She's clearly much faster, but he's able to weave around her to strike back. Kichiro ducks under an overhead kick and rises with an uppercut, to knock her backwards.

Chiaki spins on the ground and uses her legs to whip up wind, as she glows with chakra. "Wind Scythe Jutsu!"

Unsure of what else to do, Kichiro resorts to his classic technique, and starts to preform the fireball jutsu.

Rokuro turns, and yells. "Chiaki! No! It's a trap!" He begins to form handsigns to use a water style jutsu, but Ai strikes him in the thigh with a kunai. The same spot where he'd been burnt. Crying out in pain, he falls to a knee. "Agh!"

Masaki turns to him, and you dash forward with Shunshin. You appear behind Masaki, a kunai up to his throat. "On your knees, hands in the air."

Kichiro ignites the tornado of wind before it can harm him, and the girl inside is burned from the propelled flames. She stops her jutsu and lays unconscious, defeated. You've beaten them.

With a swift strike, both Rokuro and Masaki are asleep. You ask Ai to search through Chiaki while you and Kichiro check the others. After a few moments, you start to get worried that they're not going to have a scroll on them at all. But then, to your left, Kichiro calls out. "Hey! I found it! It's-..It's..ugh!"

He holds it up in the air. It's an Earth scroll. Not the one you need. But, this is a victory no less. Looking down at your opponents, you at least feel a sense of satisfaction over being the hunter, rather than the hunted. You look down at your defeated opponents. You're in complete control, now. You could beat them, kill them, humiliate them, or just walk away. It's a strange feeling of liberation after being under so much pressure for the past day.

Kichiro tosses you their Earth scroll. "Whaddya wanna do with it?"
