It's been a couple of days since your little adventure in the castle, Glenn has finally awaken and the teachers let you visit him. He just says he doesn't remember anything at all. He remembers going out for a walk and then suddenly something hit him in the head from behind. Or so he remembers.

He stays for a few more days in the hospital wing while you are continuing to attend to your classes. In the meantime you have learned about the magical alphabets, some important historical events in the wizarding world and different types of cauldrons for potions. You still struggle with the Transfiguration class though.

You do not see any more of the Goblin and no new victims appear in the hospital wing either. Hogwarts seems calm once again. It's been two weeks since Glenn was attacked and now he is also out of the hospital wing, joining classes with you. Everything more or less seems normal again. There has been only one small article in the Prophet about a mysterious series of attacks on students in Hogwarts but it just seems the journalist tried to gather a story from student gossips and imagination. There has been also no official announcement from the Headmaster.

The Quidditch game is coming up in a couple of days against the Gryffindor. You also received a letter from your father, explaining to you that you should not feel pressured or stressed for Quidditch and shouldn't let it interfere with your classes if it starts taking too much of your time.

You head into the patch, completely excited, you ate just a little at the breakfast fearing that you might puke, just like you felt in the Hogwarts Express nearly two months ago.

Tim is also with you, you two are wearing your Quidditch robes, blue and bronze, you carry the fierce eagle emblem with half pride half excitement.

Anya, Valdis and Glenn all wishes you good luck and they also head to the pitch to sit at the benches and watch the game. They are also waving Ravenclaw scarves to show their support. Most of the students are here watching the game. Slytherin students seems to be supporting a victory for you against the Gryffindor and the Hufflepuff students seems to be favoring Gryffindor against you.

You meet with the Captain Anthony and the rest of the team at the changing room. "Okay, people! Do not go crazy! I know you can do this. This is our first match and I want a WIN! Let's show these jungle cats how a real eagle fly!" the team cheers and you feel just a little bit more motivated. "John! Keep your eye on the gold! I know you will make me proud! I never fail to choose the right people to the team!" Anthony tells you before heading out on his broom to the sky.

You get on your broom, take a deep breath, and start flying.

Another twenty minutes pass. The Ravenclaw starts attacking aggressively with Anthony leading the Hawkshead Attacking Formation, chasers fly in formation in an arrowhead position and diving between the opposite team, intimidating them to move away from their road. The Gryffindor keeper is helpless against them. Ravenclaw starts scoring in a short amount of time, a lot. The score is almost 120-30 in favor of Ravenclaw. The Ravenclaw team is on fire today. You can understand your captain is really good at this and at leading the team. Then you see it.

The Golden Snitch. Flying carelessly up in the air. You start diving up, you have an advantage over the other seeker, a head start. It gets really cold and wet as you go up.

You come closer and closer, the Snitch, as if senses what you are about to accomplish, tries fly away. Too slow for you. You come closer and reach...and you grab it!

The match over. Victory for Ravenclaw for 280 against 50.

The team members flying towards you with cheers, you can hear the crowd going wild at the pitch, blue flags waving everywhere. The commentator saying something about a "record defeat" for Gryffindor.

After flying around cheering with your teammates you finally come down. You see they are carrying Alba away, she was the one who got the Bludger. Seems hurt. Quidditch is a dangerous game.

You are also quite wet because of the rain. Anya and Glenn are coming towards you cheering "Raven-CLAW! Raven-CLAW!" you hear this chant everywhere. Tim is enjoying himself doing some strange half flips in the air.

Food and drinks all around, flying banners and flags, older students casting strange light spells, one student is wearing a jacket that when he puts the cowl on looks like a giant eagle, which startles Cordelia a lot.

It is good to have finally some fun times. You see Tim talking to some older girls about the game and looking quite smug.

You spend your time in the party with your friends. Even Anya, who never cared much for Quidditch seems excited over the victory. You hear her talking with Valdis about Quidditch rules. "So what actually happens if you catch the Snitch but your team is behind more than 150 points?" she asks curiously. Glenn also seems to had a fast recovery. He doesn't really talking about it and he seems to be enjoying himself.

Even the Professor Flitwick comes to the Tower and joins the party just for a while. He congratulate Anthony and the rest of the team members personally. "I want that Quidditch Cup this year!" you hear him saying after a few Butterbeers. As the hour becomes late slowly people leave for their beds, some older students still hangout near the fire, Professor also leaves and you also head for the bed with other guys of the dormitory, feeling really tired.

(You also have your potion belt ready now and I forgot to add, Professor Snape wasn't impressed with your new Herbicide potion saying "It is admirable that you try to dedicate your time on the potions more Mr. Apise, try to do it properly in the class next time." )

You decide to study more potions. You spend a few hours everyday reading on potions and potioneering. When you take some time off from your studies you try to see Alba. She is not in the hospital wing. She was hurt but Madame Pomfrey is used to Quidditch injuries so she must have fixed her up quick.

Finally you have the chance to talk to her one morning at the breakfast where the students sit mixed. You sit next to her and ask how is she. She looks okay, maybe a bit sad in her blue eyes and tells you she had injured her left arm but she is okay now. Yet you can sense some kind of hurt inside, maybe her pride is hurt? You can see she didn't take the defeat easily.

She tries to avoid talking about Quidditch while eating her toast. You can see something even written in the prophet about Hogwarts Quidditch. It seems people still care about it even after they graduate. It also says something about a certain Ludovic "Ludo" Bagman, finally found innocent of being a Death Eather and will return to his job as the Beater of the English national team and will start writing about Quidditch in the Prophet.

After your chat she leaves to attend to some class. You come back to sit with Anya and Glenn and tell them about your chat with Alba. Tim also joins the conversation. They all seems to agree with you on this and everyone decides to do some research and gather information for the time being. Tim says it's good that you asked Alba because he thinks she is really good at some spells.

Another week passes with studying and researching. Finally you meet together with the Book Club and talk about the Hobbit. Mary says she enjoyed the book a lot and also tells you that you were really good at the Quidditch match. You feel a bit embarrassed and thank her.

Raphael, the Slytherin second grader says he doesn't understand why the wizard in the story didn't cast some other spells to get rid off the Dragon. Or why they didn't fly with broomsticks over the Forest. You just sigh and feel sad that he missed all the point. The older Hufflepuff girl comments on this saying it is difficult for some people in the Wizarding world to grasp how books are written in the Muggle world, especially fiction involving magic. Anya seems to have enjoyed the book as well. The club decides to meet sometime after the Christmas and the book you are required to read is finally a suggestion from Anya, you will read the Animal Farm by George Orwell. She also asks you about the book she gave you at the beginning of the semester and you promise to return it after the Christmas break.

After the club while you are walking in the corridor you come across Alba. She tells you about David. "He says he doesn't remember anything. He was taking a walk around the lake. I think he was doing something illegal there but...anyway. Then he says he heard a strange sound and look up and then darkness." She shrugs. "These Slytherins can be up to anything out there... I don't trust his story but... it's what he told me." she speaks with her strange yet not repulsive accent. Anya seems to be heading to library to do some reading and also homework. She asks if you want to join her. And Alba at the same time looks surprised and says "But the Quidditch is about to start! Let's go to watch the game, it's Slytherin vs. Hufflepuff!" sounding really excited.

You decide to go to the library. "I need to do this research Alba. You go and you can tell me about it later." She leaves with a clear expression on her face that thinks you two are super weird to miss the match.

You reach the library and start first to do your homework and then some research about the attacks. Anya says she will read the Hogwarts: A History book to see if there are any similar incidents happened before in Hogwarts. And you try to identify the bite marks by reading some books about the magical creatures. After a long research session, interrupted briefly when the Quidditch match ended and the shouting, cheering students walk near the Library (you hear that Hufflepuff has won) you finally you find some information. You can't say for sure what kind of creature bite Glenn but you are now sure that he was bitten in that exact point for the purpose of draining his blood. You can also see some similarities with the bite marks of Glenn and some creatures in the books that drink other creatures' blood. You are starting to feel afraid.

Anya tells you she couldn't find anything yet and needs to narrow her research. "How is Christmases in the wizarding world by the way?" she asks suddenly with curiosity. You two are almost alone in the library with only one other older Slytherin boy reading some old dusty tome at a table at the back.

Then you tell Anya about the bite marks and the blood drinking parts. First thing she thinks is about vampires but then she laughs. "I think it's impossible, no?" You tell her it's quite possible but maybe not. Since you know a lot about magical creatures you tell her there are many other beasts that like drinking blood and are not vampires.

After research you head back up to the Tower and meet with the others. You tell them about the blood drinking and all. Glenn looks quite pale after this discussion and seems afraid. But doesn't remember anything. Tim is more interested in the Quidditch match as he tells you how the Hufflepuff seeker got the Snitch away from the Slytherin seeker.

It's the fourth weekend of November now.

It's the potions class that is shared with the Slytherin. The classroom for a change is organized differently. All the desks are now for one person only and standing apart from each other. Professor Snape talks slowly and explains he wants to see how much you have really learned in this one semester and wants you all to brew a potion for him. "The one who gets it the best will receive from me a vial of Unctuous Unction." You know that is a potion that makes the person who drinks it thinks the person who give the potion to him is his best friend for a short time.

"Now you are required to brew a Forgetfulness Potion."

It takes you about 45 minutes of pure concentration to brew your potion. You are always thinking of the Professor's words: "do it in the classroom" It almost echoes in your brain. You want to do it perfectly to show him. You WILL do it perfectly.

You check with your book and your potion looks and smells exactly like it's described in the text. You look around to see Anya struggling with it a bit, Tim and Valdis looks completely lost just adding random things to their cauldron. David and Glenn seem okay at it. Another Slytherin boy you only know as Nigel seems good too. But yours is...perfect.

Professor says "It's time." in a gloomy voice almost announcing the end of the world. Comes checking every table and finally he comes to you. "Well, well... 10 points to Ravenclaw, after all you seem to understand a bit about the Potioneering Mr. Apise" he says with a emotionless face. Anya cheers for you after the class is dismissed and Professor Snape gives you a small, round vial full of a strange purplish liquid.

You spend your time studying more on the Defence Against the Dark Arts class. You practice your spells and also work on to come up with strategies and tactics in the case of a situation like the one with the Doxy.

On a saturday night, mid-december you are attending your last class in this semester. It's Astronomy. It is unluckily a cloudy night tonight, so the class will be spent on memorizing names of the planets' moons in our solar system, different names of the stars and constellations and a map of the moon is also present in the class to identify major landmarks.

The professor randomly asks students about the names of the moons in our solar system. She asks you to name five moons of Jupiter.

Then she continues to ask Valdis to name five moons of Uranus, to her surprise and delight he continues to name at least twelve, in order of size before she stops him and says it is enough. "10 points to Ravenclaw!"

Tim whispers something funny about Valdis always being a failure in other classes except this one. You don't hear well but everyone laughs.

The class is dismissed late at night, everyone excited, comes back to the Ravenclaw Tower, prepares bags and everyone is getting ready to leave for the Christmas holiday. You also prepare all your stuff and you are completely ready to leave in the morning.

You sleep a short sleep, waking up early to a cloudy dark day. Get all your stuff ready. Excited to wear your Ravenclaw robes for going back home! Say your goodbyes to everyone.

After one semester of being away from home you feel strange to come back. You feel as if you have changed. As if life itself has also changed. Yet everything looks the same as before here. While looking like changed at the same time. It is difficult to describe your feelings. You feel strange to think your parents life was continuing here while you had all those moments, classes, Quidditch and adventures in Hogwarts. Suddenly you feel sad and miss your new friends, even miss your cold dormitory room with snoring Valdis.

Then you think about your parents. How you thought about them when you were feeling alone or sad or in danger in Hogwarts. And you feel grateful to have them. You can see and smell that your favorite foods have been cooked for your return. Father informs you that there will be a small family reunion with cousins, uncles and aunts in the Christmas dinner. You are glad that your cousin Alfred will be coming here otherwise you would be bored to death.

Cordelia also seems happy at home. Flying around, smelling many flowers in the gardens of the manor. The grounds are slightly white with the light snowing. Strangely your mother is in the kitchen instead of ordering something to the house-elves. Says it's a special drink she has learned from the animal-handler who sold you Cordelia taught her that's called Glögi.

After the usual basic chitchat, eating and drinking and talking about some classes the "interrogation" starts. Your mother also seems quite proud of your achievement as a seeker in the Quidditch Team. Your father seems more interested to know about your potioneering skills. They just ask you one thousand questions like "how is this professor? how is that class? is this corridor still smells like this? is this classroom still has this random damage we inflicted in the school? did you meet with any nice girls? how are your friends? where are they from?" The questions seems endless.

You talk with your mom about Quidditch, while your dad is more interested in eating some food on the table. She tells you some really memorable matches from her time. "Dromeda hit this one Gryffindor boy so bad, he had to stay in the hospital wing for two weeks after the match... that was our best year as the team..." your father interrupts suddenly. "Oh dear, did you invited her to the dinner?" She sighs and just says "We can talk about it later, Edward."

Then you talk a bit about the classes you are good at with them. Like the Potions, Herbology and the DADA. Your father seems quite impressed with your potion making skills. He is even surprised to hear about the small reward you got from Professor Snape. Your mother seems a bit cold when you mention his name though.

Then you continue to talk about more on professors. They know some of the professors like the Professor Binnks from their days and some of them from other places in the wizarding world. Your mom says she knows the Flying teacher Hooch quite well.

Then you open the subject about your friends and about the girls you have met in Hogwarts. You tell them about the people in the book club and then about your own roommates and classmates. You say you have become good friends with a girl named Anya. Your mother asks about her family and you say she is a muggle born and also if it's okay to invite her at a later date so she can see how we celebrate stuff in wizard world. Your father laughs and says it's an excellent idea and your mother smiles and says "why not?" You also tell them about a girl from somewhere called Catalonia and that she is a good Quidditch player. Your mother seems intrigued and she laughs that maybe you will be visiting her in her country.

Then you ask them about the most weird stuff happened to them in their time in Hogwarts.

After all the chat and eating they kind of finally "leave you alone". Before going to bed your mother comes to you room. "Let me give you your present John" she says smiling, you remember about her surprise in the letter she wrote to you. She takes a package and gives it to you. You slowly unwrap it to reveal a small red ruby gem. You look confused. "What is this Mother?"

She responds quietly. "It is a Gem of Location. In the castle, on the sixth floor, near the portrait called "the Reading Man" there is a small opening on the wall. When you touch the wall with the gem, the wall opens up slightly like a door and it reveals a small room that as far as I know nobody in the Hogwarts knows. Especially not that stupid Squib Filch. Don't tell your father" She winks.

I dealt with this in SLQ, it clears up. Also, I'm going to take a stab in the dark at the creature. The wound is on the wrist, a low part of the body, so I'm ruling out tall monsters, it isn't a vampire. Glenn was most likely lured to the woods, so it involved some sort of magic. The bloodletting rules out most other short creatures but one in my mind, conveniently mentioned in the third book. I hypothesize we are dealing with a Redcap. Here's a wiki article on them.
