Rolled 83 (1d100)

Awakening after eons of imprisonment by unlucky miners you, Jadyk of the Wormstar, former Lich-Lord of the Grand Necrotic Armada, have been rebuilding the start of your fleet. The miners and local wildlife of this fringeworld have fed the creation of your fledgling army.

You've created Talons, classic soldiers for the Wormstar armies, and developed a new breed of warrior. Stingers are heavy armored reconstructed undead armed with a deadly harpoon of bone and sinew.

You hope these new warriors will allow you overpower the group of Osjiic troopers heading currently for your location in the colony mine. A handful of Talons watch from rocky crags and ridges as the hovercraft glides up the path winding up the mountain.

These Osjiic intrigue and somewhat worry you. You'd heard their name before you imprisonment as nothing more than primitive creatures but now you hear their Empire is one of the largest political forces in the Galaxy. Even more troublesome was the fact you can detect the power of the Void churning in their ships, even their own troops.

This will be a true test of your regrowing strength.

You clack your jaws and heft your newly created shield of metal and bone

This should be interesting if not even, dare you say it...

Fun

Welcome back folks, let's get this rolling
Previous threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=death+among+the+stars

Twitter I use to announce the threads: https://twitter.com/CeroTheNull

Judging by the current speed of the hovercraft transporting the six Troopers to the mine you have nearly half an hour at most to prepare for your visitors. Jor and the other dominated living do not know yet of their approach while your reconstructed soldiers await your orders, four of the stingers holding thick shields.

With the Cauldron's temporarily drained you hope these numbers will be enough until you can reignite it or upgrade it to a more complex form.

How do you prepare and what are your plans?
>4 living minions
>18 Talons
>10 Stingers (4 with heavy shields)

>>42964515
Can the drones be used?
>>
>>42964548
They could actually but they are not combat drones. Best they could be used for is battering rams or blockades.

There is one equipped with a smaller version of the big mining drill that ended up falling into your crypt and freeing you that could possibly be used if the target is standing still long enough
>>
>>42964515
First block up the entrance a bit, make slow them down
Then when they enter Attack as they enter, stingers attack the guns and weapons the enemy have, the drones will zoom in and grab the dropped weapons, them all attack the enemy

>>42964640
This will do

>>42964515
Lure them in deeper into the mine with the humans while the troopers hide. Tell them the humans need their help with the ruins below. Surround and swarm them

So what story are we giving?
We mined into an ancient evil aliens tomb who was too much for the miners?
Of course the alien is the stinger not us.

Your Talons and Stingers crowd into the side rooms along with yourself. Your minions move to the drone control room and have them blink and whirr to life, hovering into place then idling on the ground.

The living are sweating nervously as they wait, Jor most of all as he paces just by the open door. Your thralls on lookout watch as the large transport makes its way up the path and slowly crests to a stop on grass next to the shuttle. The Osjiic disembark from the transport, the driver staying with it as the other five, including the one that burned with the Void at their core moved to the mine where Jor scurries out.

The troopers wore the same concealing armor as the ones you saw at the dropships but only two of them carried their heavy rifles, the others toting weapons half the size but with large magazines. The one channeling the void carried no weapon, their armor splashed with black paint in twisting knots.

Jor meekly bows his head before the Osjiic that approaches and looms over him, "W-what can I do for you?" he stutters

The Osjiic relaxes their grip on their weapon as they growl down at the meek human, "We are looking for a sensor outpost to set up a watch for pirates. Your mine should be sufficient," Jor glances up briefly and sees the crates loaded up on the transport.

He nods and motions, "I, uh, sure sure! Do, do you want to look at the mine? We could," he pauses to lick his suddenly dry lips as the Osjiic snorts derisively as the human continues, feeling the shard pulse in his chest, "We had a small accident, digger and some miners fell into a cavern," the trooper looks ready to ignore him but he pushes on, "They're ruins or something, our miners never came back up alive," he says using half-truths

The alien soldier snorts and turns to mutter over private channels with the others. Several shrug and the trooper turns back, "Alright, we'll take a quick look at this ruin of yours but if this is a prank or trick, you will not return either." They turn to the others and motion to several.

Four of the Osjiic move to follow Jor, including the one that burned with the void while the driver and one other stayed with the transport, unloading the crates.

Jor motions to the skiff they used to travel the mines and the Osjiic scoff, their forms much too large to fit. Instead they motion to Jor to start walking and he gulps, glancing too long at the maintenance room where you waited with your troops.

The soldier glances at the door and grunts, pointing. One of the troopers peels away and Jor pales visibly, jumping forward, "Don'-" is all he is able to say before the trooper punches him out with barely an effort then motions to his soldiers.

You give them no time to discuss and before the trooper could open the large doors that lead to your hiding place several drones lift into the air and dart with surprising speed to crash into the troopers.

They shout in surprise, turning their guns on the machines but leaving their backs to you as the doors burst open and your troops burst forth.

Talons scream as they leap over each other and scramble across the armor of the Osjiic, tearing and clawing. Stingers move out and with hisses of pressurized launch their bolts at the enemies. Two of the Osjiic lose their guns, reeled out of their grasp as they struggled against the Talons swarming them.

Your four Talons outside screech as well, leaping from above to land on the two outside. Several Talons inside and out are pulverized by the large metal slugs but to your relief they bring down the three armed troopers inside, yanking away parts of their armor to slash at exposed gray flesh, even a helmet yanked away and their throat torn out.

Stingers drag at least one of the troops down as Talons swarm them but keeping them alive. Your Talons outside have less luck as three or crushed or broken. You send several of your Stingers and Talons outside to deal with them.

Your last remaining Talon impressing you as it managed to dodge gunfire, darting under the transport and leaping up the other side to swipe the radio from its hand before it managed to get a distress call out. Your forces burst from the mine, hiding behind the Stinger shields as bullets pound against them. Talons darting out to swarm over the remaining two, their claws soon running with black oily blood.

You yourself step from the room and glance at the carnage. Several Talons and a Stinger lay crumpled but possibly salvageable. Two of the Osjiic lay dead and a third struggles against the sting whip barbs and talons embedded in their flesh and pinning them down.

Looking further down the tunnel you see the still form of Jor and the unarmed trooper, their silhouette shimmering. A pair of Talon dash down the hall but you watch as they are lifted up by an unseen hand and pushed backwards violently.

The Osjiic spreads it's stance and a small orb appears between its hands, the light twisting around it before it launches the sphere directly at you. One of your Talons leaps into the way and you watch with surprise as its chest explodes with the force of a grenade.

So they had mimicked some of Ghuls tricks after all.

>Osjiic troopers subdued or killed
>Osjiic Void user is still alive, putting their back to the mine tunnel so your troops can sneak up on it

This void powered soldier was too valuable to kill just yet, you decide. You needed some inside contact to the Osjiic and answers to the questions you have about Ghul and his stolen power.

Your own power you can feel waning from the recent creation of your forces, the Cauldrons creation and the enslavement of the miners. You glance down at the struggling Osjiic and clack your jaws, skeletal face giving the gray-skinned alien a rictus grin. You drop down and grab the face of the alien, feeling it's life-energy flow into you. You feel yourself grow more robust before the light even left those black eyes, a fine feast indeed.

Standing you look back to the Osjiic who was collecting another ball of destructive force in their palms but larger this time. You can feel the desperation roll off of them after seeing their comrade's life sucking from them by a skeleton in ancient armor. The tunnel rumbles with the energy of the sphere but you quickly pull the simple slug-pistol from your armor and channel your necrotic energy into the gun, the metal rusting as you pull the trigger.

The bullet cursed with blighted energy tears into the Osjiics leg and it loses its control over the orb, flinging it into the wall next to it. It explodes and the soldier disappears in a wall of dust and rubble. You feel the tunnel quake, tossing aside the corroded and useless weapon as Talons and Stingers rush past you before the dust clears.

They dig into the rubble and find the unconscious soldier and drag him free. His armor shattered in his leg you can feel the necrosis setting in. You could stop the process but first you lean down, snapping a large shard of your armor off. You channel your energies and inscribe it with the dread language of the Wormstar before pulling his helmet away and jam the shard into their neck with a sizzle. You note their face is warped and monstrous compared to the others, fangs unable to fit in their mouth.

You step back as a Talon brings to attention the limp Jor. They still breathed but were slowly choking on blood from a punctured lung sustained from the blast. You feel with your new energy from the robust meal of the Osjiic you could heal him but you could just as easily drain him.

As you consider this your Talons drag the two Osjiic soldiers inside as the others pile the dead Osjiic and Talons by the inert Cauldron for remaking and recycling. They drag the two to you and you stoop down, draining the very last of their life-energy as they struggled to hold onto life as they bled out.

Kneeling down by Jor you place a hand on his chest over the shard embedded in his skin. You channel your own energy into him and after several moments he starts to cough up the blood lodged in his lungs but soon he is breathing freely. A pair of Talons heft him up and carry him to the other captives that await in barely constrained panic.

You can not even remember the last time you had used your powers to prolong the life of the living. Inspecting your hands were muscles and chitin skin started to grow you hear a grunt from the Osjiic. Looking over you watch as he shakily gets to his feet and touches the shard in his neck but a bolt of pain makes him shout, a ripple of void energy rippling across his form.

The soldier looks to you and growls but at a wave of your hand he snarls in pain and collapses to his knees, twitching in pain before you release the pain tearing through him. Panting he grumbles in his species coarse language but through the shard you have no problem understanding him, "What are you..."

Clacking your jaws you pat the smooth head of your newest servant, "You can call me Lord Jadyk. Tell me your name, please,"

The soldier looks up at you with what you can only assume is confusion and disgust but a twinge through the shard and he growls before answering, "Voidsinger of Prideful Bastion. Voidsingers are given no names, we earn them only in our Deathwatch."

He struggles to not answer but your twist the shard and he hisses, "A squad of thirty," he answers and you nod. Twenty-four left to go.

"Are there any more Voidsingers?"

"Just one other. They are close to joining the Deathwatch, their Void burns them," they say, still trying to resist.

"Your Void powers. These belonged to Ghul the Voidknight, servant of the Black Flames. How did your people come to possess them?" YOu ask abruptly

The Voidsinger blinks in confusion, "How do you know that name? That name... it haunts every Voidsinger... we keep it from the others..." the Osjiic looks up at you with surprise and distrust.

You stop your pacing and look down at him, "Does he still exist?"

They shake their head, "He has been dead for eons, longer than the Empire existed. A demigod came from the stars as our kind were primitives. They sought to claim us for their army but our heroes slew the Voidknight and his legions, stealing his power to lift our mighty race to conquer the stars as his successor and better," he says, repeating the legend.

This was regrettable news. You hope somewhere that Ghuls will may yet exist in the cosmos. Tapping your boney chin you nod, "An interesting story. Do the names the Necrotic Armada, the Undying Court, or the Wormstar mean anything to you?"

The Voidsinger slowly shakes their head, "Vaguely. The Necrotic Armada was destroyed by our fledgling Empire and the Alliance of Planets. Those other names are vaguely mentioned in the record but they are considered myths."

"Myths start off as truth," you say offhandedly as you mull over this news

As your Talons pick over the bodies and transport you are disappointed by the lack of loot. All they had was a portable sensor station loaded up in the crates you may get some use out of. Their weapons were damaged as the Stingers wrenched them out of their grasp but they find several that could still work along with a startling amount of ammo. The transport could be of some use as well.

>Gained 1 Heavy Rifle, 2 Drum-Carbines (too heavy for human or Talon use), buuuunch of ammo, hover transport, sensor tower

"The Necrotic Army is not dead. I survived and shall reforge it under by banner. You may yet see it come to fruition. I am Jadyk of the dread sun Wormstar," the Osjiic didn't quite grasp the severity of your title but he knew enough to be cowed, bowing his head. You continue, "Tell me of the other Voidsinger. You said he burns?"

They nod, "The Void is a flame and a pit that consumes each Voidsinger until all that is left is the flame and a shell of our being," he reaches up to his armor and you almost stop him but you feel no aggression from him. He unbuckles the chest piece and it falls away to reveal the core of his power.

A small ball of flame that wasn't just black but empty as a hole in reality churns behind his ribcage where a heart once beat. You can see through the bones his organs that are slowly consumed by the flame, his skin blasted away. He closes the armor, "We become the Dead and our Watch begins. Voidsingers that are consumed fully become part of the Emperors Deathwatch, our most powerful of legions and finally granted a name."

"Would you be able to convince your former comrades to fork over some much needed supplies? We seem to have hit a wall here and you could be just what we needed," you say as a sudden thought strikes you.

The Osjiic looks up at you then shakes his head, pointing to where the Osjiic you'd drained and fallen, "They would've been able to," you sense a certain amount of smug satisfaction at being able to deny you somewhat but you clack your jaw.

A group of Talons drag out the commander, replacing the damaged armor with salvaged bits but leaving them unharmed. You snap off a long sliver of your armor and channel your power into it, using some of the corpses very own life force to empower the sliver as it slides into their neck. The helm replaced you turn back to the Voidsinger

"Tell me about your cargo," you ask, the soldier breaking his gaze from his deceased comrade to look back up at you

"Weapons, armor, rations. Three dropships, sentry drones. Parts for ship and weapon repair. We expected to use mostly the colony's... resources..." they trail off, watching as their dead commander lumbers to their feet and is handed a drum carbine by a pair of Talons hefting the weapon. Would they be able to pass off as alive?
How life like are our zombies?
>>
>>42968019
>See if we can draw in another patrol, this time keep their commander alive, and drain the rest, we need to build our strength.
>>
>>42968019
Wait. So they're part of a fleet?
Would the fleet come looking for its soldiers?
Should we reanimate them and stow away secretly on the ship, keeping the captain and singers alive while our zombies go about the usual duties?
We can pillage planets we get sent to and slowly take over the fleet until we have enough to destroy the flagship and go out on our own
>>
>>42968090
They can't speak no but can move like a normal person since they were reanimated while "fresh".

You have a radio on the transport and in the mine and can use it to request that the Osjiic bring supplies to the Mine
>>
>>42968144
Your undead don't act like a zombie plague. You alone have the power to reanimate the dead either through an empowered chitin sliver or in a Cauldron. You can have other beings and servants use the cauldrons and throw in bodies and materials automatically to create more of your soldiers but they would not be able to pull off an infiltration of that size.

You could send enslaved minions but you are unsure of how far your bond would reach and you may lose control over them.
>>
>>42968146
I should not that beyond the sensor tower and the weapons they did not bring much in the way of supplies.

A quick confirmation with the Voidsinger and he says they were to radio back once they had found a suitable place to set up their camp and they would send with the supplies. They had other areas planned if the mine ended up being subpar to their needs.
>>
>>42968184
They aren't real zombies I know, but it's easy to call them zombies.
For now, we should focus on getting a cauldron.
Get voidsinger to request materials for a new cauldron, then start turning the dead into minions.
Send one in with a gun and ammo and all of his armor to see if we can't get a stronger minion
>>
>>42968245
Have the voidsong tell the ship that there was a cave in, the rest of the team is cut off but not harmed, it's not that bad but we need some chemicals (the ones we need for the caldron) to fix the mining equipment to get them out.

Also lets make a better cauldron or upgrade the one we have now
>>
>>42968306
Yeah have them send the supplies with an addition of the cauldron brew for the miners to shut them up.

Build a bigger better cauldron for sure. I wanna see what we get when we use Osjiics. We should probably have the talons hunt more of those alien goats
>>
>>42968351
This. Be shore to emphasize that the cave in is not that bad and can easily be fix once we get the chemicals, we don't need any more people right now

You command the Voidsinger to prepare themselves and to call back for the supply run. Telling them to make sure they send along the chemicals needed for the Cauldron. You help him spin a tale about an unlucky cave-in involving a broken mining machine.

As you speak with him your tow humans and kesh emerge at your commands, fixing drones that were damaged in the skirmish and sending the others to start carving stone and welding metal for the cauldron.

The Voidsinger returns to the transport and sets up the sensor tower, hooking it up and letting it spin up and getting a reading on the valley and mountain range. You believe this would come to be useful.

Moving to the radio they sit for several minutes as they compose themselves, the silent zombie standing nearby with their weapon. Finally they reach for the device and call in, repeating a code and delivering the story.

There is a moment where he almost loses his cool as they say they would send another group but your minion manages to calm them down, saying the cave-in was minor and no issue beyond some miners getting crushed. They were in no danger but boredom while trapped.

He waits nervously at the silence that seems to stretch on before a confirmation is barked across the radio. They say to expect one of the colonies automated shuttles shortly. Another relief.

Satisfied you have the Voidsinger stand at the sensor tower and explain its function to you through a Talon. An hour later as the sun started to set you see a blip on the screen of the sensor, showing a shuttle heading their way.

The shuttle lands and you have the Voidsinger and your living humans unload the supplies to avoid the gaze of the cameras at the front of the shuttle. The crates and barrels unloaded the shuttle takes off and returns to the colony.

The drones and humans work long into the night, tearing down the old cauldron and starting to rebuild it on a larger scale in a room deeper in the mine. A blank but large room where they'd mined a vein of ore, the shape of the Cauldron rearing up. Stone and metal are carved with care unlike the first made out of necessity. Runes and sigils in the language of the Wormstar carved by the steady claws of the Talons.

The chemical brew is pour into the pit, a bound cliff-jumper struggling against the plastic bonds, shrieking and squealing in terror as the acids burn into it. Your Talons and Stingers surround the Cauldron pit, chanting with broken voices in a language you doubt had been spoken in centuries. Once again you reach into your armor and break off a rib, casting it into the liquid that starts to churn and boil, turning black.

Your fallen you bring forth and dump into the pit and soon four Talons and a reformed Stinger along with a shield emerge from the boiling liquid. You dip your hands into the black fluid as the first of the Osjiic corpses are lowered in with their armor still on.

Your living minions you keep holed up in the upper level to keep them from this sight but you feel Jor awaken from his injuries. You sense his confusion then fear as he recoils from the Voidsinger standing in the same room. You note with some amusement how the Voidsinger tells Jor that you had saved his life. Jor sits silently for a long time after that, feeling his emotions twist and thoughts race.

Turning back to your work at hand you ponder your newest creation

Cauldron upgraded
>Brew can last indefinitely through the sacrifice of living sentient beings to refuel it
>Capable of more complex reconstructions and construction of weapons and armors
>Osjiic corpses unlocked the Troll template
>Allows the creation of unique undead based on the sacrifice and their power

Trolls are large heavily armored troopers able to wield and fire heavy weaponry that would break the spine of lesser undead. They can be equipped with a ranged weapon that replaces their forearm or be given a melee weapon. They can carry a large shield that provides cover for their allies just as much as they. They can move with surprising speed but only in bursts. If greatly damaged there is a chance they may go berserk and take your full concentration to regain control.

Current list of available options
Troops:
>Talons
>Stingers
>Trolls

Weapons:
>Melee weapons and shields
>Sting Whip
>Bone Rifle (Fires a hardened bone bullet, troops able to consume bones in the field to resupply their ammo)
>Shardspitter (A rapid-fire short range weapon that fires flechettes of barbed bone)

Stingers and Trolls can equip Bone Rifles but Talons can only equip Shardspitters

You have enough Osjiic corpses to make 5 Trolls if you render down the Zombie as well

You would need to hunt to make more Talons and Stingers

That is a little beyond your capability right now. You will have the chance to reforge yourself in the future but right now you are still too weak.

You have done this many times in the past. Jadyk's original form was a foot-long parasitic grub that could control corpses but has held countless new forms over his service to the Wormstar. Sometimes because of damage, other times as upgrades

>>42969356
They can use shields with a single gun or melee weapon yes. You can have a troll use two shields to provide cover but they would not be able to use a weapon.

You step back and wring your hands to clean them of the thick fluid. Several minutes later and your newest creations emerge. Four densely muscled undead stand just slightly taller than you at almost eight feel tall. They were eyeless like the rest of your soldiers but their heads were angular and predatory, jaws splitting open to reveal thick plates of sharpened bone that look more like blades than teeth. Two of them had their right forearm replaced with a heavy Bone Rifle, the other two with the thickened forearm of a Sting Whip. You forge for each of them a heavy shield and they attack it to their arms and await your orders.

You would have to make them some weapons but for now your send your Talons out into the Valley to hunt. They spring out, spreading to cover as wide an area as possible. Following soon after is the zombie osjiic stiffly piloting their transport. The Voidsinger is commanded to use the sensor tower to locate any sizable groups of body heat and you relay the locations through to the Talons.

Talons pounce and capture unsuspecting creatures and dragging them back to the transport where Stingers and Talons subdue the capture beasts before they bring them back to you.

Draining them for their energy before they're placed in piles awaiting reconstruction the pattern repeats.

You are once again impressed by the skill of your Talons at hunting and they bring in a bounty of wildlife for the Cauldrons.

Several piles of cliff-jumpers, a pair of harpoon beasts, a trio of the herd beasts that the colony raises for food, several bird-like creatures taken from their nests and the last new samples you find quite interesting.

The small bird creatures would be enough to devise a small non-combat creature but your Talons managed to find a corpse of a strange repto-avian and a living one, possibly its grieving mate, nearby. Nearly waist high to a human when they walked on their middle pair of limbs, the other four formed into wings that you suspect the creature used to sail on the wind. Four feet long from the horizontal splitting maw to the long finned tail. The wings were powerful but seemed mostly used for gliding and diving.

You toss it into the Cauldron along with a cliff-jumper and shortly later two serpentine creatures emerge from the Cauldron and flex their wings.

>Gargoyle Template created
>One of your smaller creations Gargoyles resemble a narrow segmented snake or spinal column with a pair of strong limbs with sharp talons it stands on and attacks with. Four wings propel the creature at great speeds or allow it to glide high above. This construct also has a first for your undead. A single large eye makes up most of its head, an exaggeration of the powerful eyes the living creature once had. A weak combatant you plan for it to be a reconnaissance and spy unit, enhancing the thermal and electrical sensing organs that run along its body.

Sacrifice the Kesh to discover any possible upgrades?

>>
>>42969864
A claw is a bad choice. We should make use of his size with clubs and hammers.
Give blades and claws to smaller more agile creatures
>>
>>42969906
Blunt weapons have their uses, but are limited in their applications and comparitvely unwieldy. When I said bladed weapon I was thinking of a massive fuckoff cleaver or axe type of thing that are sturdy enough to smash armor while sharp enough to cleave through flesh. Giving most of our trolls such weapons would give them more battlefield capability than equipping them all with hammers.
>>
>>42969996
What this anon said.
>>
After we take out the rest of these soldiers should we massacre the village and move worlds?
>>
>>42969798
Y.

I'd say make a Stinger for every two or three Talons we make, but keep hunting for more 'materials'.

As for weapons, I vote give one an axe and the other a massive club or mace. When we get more stick with probably a 1:4 ratio of axes to clubs, because axes are generally more useful.
>>
>>42969798
The other minions look up in surprise as the Kesh alien stands up with a protesting chirp. It looks back at it's companions with a pleading eye but they are unable to resist your call.

They move past the Stingers and Trolls standing guard as it enters the Cauldron room. You are busy slowly pulling out a chitin, bone and metal maul for one of the trolls, the flanged head hardening and darkening to a dull stone gray. The Troll hefts the weapon over its shoulder and joins its twin carrying a heavy ax that looked more like a slab of thick metal.

Several Gargoyles slink around, staring at the Kesh as it waits your attention. Finally you stand and turn to meet it's cyclopean gaze, the facial plates flexing in terror as you pat it's shoulder comfortingly, "I am very sorry for this, my friend, but you are of more use to me in another state of existence," you tenderly pat its cheek as it quivers in fear, "Your sacrifice will be a boon for my new Necrotic Armada."

You wonder if you're getting soft but you make it painless for the alien as you drain it's life energy and it topples backwards into the Cauldron with a soft plop.

You dip your hands inside once more and feel what the Kesh may provide you.

The Kesh evolved as an apex predator in their arboreal homeworld, their large single eye a powerful organ allowing them to see in low-light or even complete darkness with thermal vision. They also possessed powerful sense of smell they used to hunt and track their prey and search for fruits. Modern day Kesh are typically hired as trackers and hunters, occasionally joining police, military, or rarely mining forces due to their powerful senses.

>Adaptation gained
>Cyclopean Gaze: enhanced vision and chemical receptors provides bonus to vision and tracking
>Gargoyles and hunting Talons would benefit the most

With your new knowledge of the Kesh you have the Gargoyles dive back into the liquid and they emerge, their eyes flashing as they catch what little light there is in the room. You create several more of them and they scurry down the tunnels before launching themselves from the cliffs to sail on the winds in the lightening skies.

You look through their eyes and are amazed at what they can see, telescoping to watch Talons dragging the last of their catches home. You have them start patrols in the air and perching on mountains to keep watch. With them and the sensor tower you are confident you'll see a threat long before they can get to you.

Your Talons come in for the day as the sun peeks over the horizon and start to drag corpses into the Cauldron. Drones hover overhead carrying loads of gravel and ore to dump into the Cauldrons churning surface.

Talons and Stingers crawl from the Cauldron, several of the Stingers emerging with heavy shields. They file into the mine tunnels and stand waiting their first orders as their numbers swell.

By the time the last crawl from the Cauldron pit you feel tired but satisfied. You energy is stronger than it ever has been and your numbers are growing nicely.

New Troops totals:
>Talons: 30
>Stingers: 18
>Gargoyles: 6
>Trolls: 4 (two ranged, two melee)
>Enslaved Minions: 3 Human miners, 1 Osjiic Voidsinger

The upgrade would make a Talon more physically frail but they would provide an ambient bonus to surrounding Talons since they have a weak group consciousness that shares information during battle. It's how they are so effective at hunting and swarming attacks and this would provide a bonus to that.

In time you can combine it with other adaptations you discover to create more unique and niche types of undead to fill specialist roles
like I said, I'm getting a lot of my inspiration from HQQ

So could we get some kind of minion sacrifice system where we can get a soul bonus to rolls for sacrificing living minions for power to that roll?
Or some kind of mana system that adds bonus on our rolls based on our mana, which gets lower based on how much mana is going towards keeping living minions shackled to our will?
But after being shackled long enough they become a natural extension of our will and cease a mana cost as their minds are completely in synch with ours

Shard enslavement works wonders for interrogation since you can inflict body wide pain on a target at will. You can also sense their emotions through the shard to judge the validity of their confession
