You're building quite the to-do list, aren't you?

First, you need an eyeball – any eye will do, apparently, but you want the best – for Petra. Of course, that necessitates finding a “willing” donor before you can do anything but, well, you're resourceful – you'll figure something out. Next, a certain quantity of fresh human blood to rouse the Deathstone from its slumber. You've got a few ideas for getting that, none of which are particularly something you're looking forwards to. Finally, you want to get some information on all kinds of things, to plan your next move appropriately.

“Take this,” Scathach tells you, pulling a metal canister out of thin air and offering it to you, “A gift, to help your part of this... operation.”

You take the cylinder and tilt it from side to side for a moment, listening to the sloshing and rattling from within. When you unscrew the lid, a sharp disinfectant smell strikes you as you take out some of the tools within. Scalpels, forceps and stranger things aside. Surgical tools, you assume, while the liquid must be some kind of preservative, something to keep the specimen fresh until you can hand it over.

Well, at least you're approaching this with the right equipment. You were worried that you'd have to rip the damn thing out with your bare hands and just... jam it into Petra's head. Probably better this way, you decide, as you thank Scathach for her thoughtful gift. Now, you've just got to find a “volunteer”. Easy. No problem at all.
>>
>>42923780

Maybe, you consider, you should just wait and see what crosses your path. After all, the Archangel Michael is hunting you down – at least, that's what he threatened – and the thought of chopping out pieces of God's right hand to assist a “mere human” is darkly amusing. It almost seems like an insult, one final act of spite against Heaven before taking the keystone and putting an end to the Lord's dominion once and for all.

As you leave the hospital, a cheery hum from behind reminds you that Cassandra was barely conscious when Michael made his proclamation. Does she even remember? If not, she deserves to know – better to be prepared, rather than taken by surprise when the big guy drops out of the sky to challenge you. On the other hand, you're not sure you'd consider yourself prepared, but that's not the issue. You'll think of something.

“Something on your mind?” Cassandra asks, the sound of her voice causing you to glance around in bot surprise and confusion. “You're scowling,” she adds, covering up a smile with the back of her hand, “You always scowl like that when you're thinking about something serious.”

Not always, you protest, knowing full well that she's right. Your mother always joked about that, saying that you'd get wrinkles from spending so much time with your face screwed up. If only she knew that wrinkles would be the least of your problems.

“I mean, you don't have to tell me,” your friend says hastily, “If it's, uh, personal.”

It's not personal, you tell her, you're just a little wary of this new – and rather gruesome – task that you've got. Then, giving Cassandra a wolfish grin, you ask her if she has any... insights into the problem. Damn, you wish you had some sunglasses to put on or something, that pun deserved special treatment.

“That's awful!” Cassandra laughs, “I mean, it actually is. You're really going to cut someone's eye out? I guess it's better than being blind, though...” She shrugs after a moment's thought, “Did you have your eye on anyone in particular?” A long moment of silence, then, “Uh, that wasn't deliberate.”

Well, you have set your sights on a particular target, and you're hoping that you'll be able to hit the bullseye. Really though, you say as you force down a rush of only slightly unhinged laughter, you DO have something serious to mention. It's the Archangel Michael – he's descended to London, and he's pretty pissed. In fact, he more or less called you out, claimed that he was going to hunt you down. Bad news, you say, although...

“Really?” Cassandra's eyes widen in surprise, “Him? You, uh, you really think you can cut out the Archangel Michael's eye?”

Charity is a virtue, you reply with a shrug, and angels are supposed to be virtuous, right? In either case, you've got to find the guy first. Despite his threats and announcements, you've not seen hide nor hair of him, or anyone who might be working for him. It's all very mysterious.

“I wonder if he knows where we are,” Cassandra muses, “If he knew we were standing here right now, would he come over and, you know, start a fight?”

Maybe. In fact, that gives you an idea. If word got out that you'd be waiting in a certain place at a certain time – and, with an information dealer among your allies, word would definitely get out – could you lure Michael into a fight? An ambush, even? It's certainly an option worth considering.

Well, either way. You want to end this conversation on a lighter note, so you decide to ask Cassandra why she's been so cheerful lately. There's got to be some explanation, one that goes beyond the restorative powers of a soft bed and clean sheets. So, you confront her, spill the beans.

“Eh, there's no reason! Well, Cu Chulainn was waiting by my bedside when I woke up – that was nice – and we had a good long,” she hesitates here and looks down at her feet for a long time before finishing, lamely, “talk.”

Is that so? You ask this in the most sly, knowing tone of voice you can conjure up, grinning all the while. Back in the day, when the city was populated with humans rather than demons, this would be considered hot gossip. The hottest, even. Not that you were ever interested in gossip, of course. Well, maybe not spreading it – your ears were always open.

“A-anyway!” Cassandra blurts out, “He said, um, he said you suggested he accompanied me, that's all it was! I think it's a good idea, really!”

Oh, your grin grows, so she thinks it would be a good idea to go out with him?

“Sure!” a pause, as Cassandra's face grows heavy with dismay, “That's not what I meant! Come on, don't we have better things to do with our time? Let's go!”

Fine, fine. Speaking hypothetically though, you add as an afterthought, does she think Cu Chulainn would look good with an eye patch? You ask purely because she's the expert in sexy fairies, of course.

“I refuse to comment,” she mutters, a deep red flush filling her face, “No comment.”

You'll take that as a yes, then. Good to know. Cassandra sulks all the while you walk back to the fairy kingdom, but you occasionally catch glimpses of a dreamy smile on her face. Young love – adorable.
>>
>>42924302
>You'll take that as a yes, then.

Good. That gives us the a-ok to rip his fucking eye out.
>>
>>42924302

When you arrive back at the fairy kingdom, Cassandra wastes little time in hurrying away to her room – hastily mentioning something vague about having “things to do”. You don't doubt about that, you just hope she can pull herself away at short notice, if need be.

Well, that leaves you on your own again. Not that you're lonely, of course, or jealous. Definitely not. Still, you feel the urgent need to do something, to get involved in the kind of dangerous escapades that seem to follow you about. Or, at the very least, think about something else. You're not jealous. Maybe you'll go and see if Petra still needs that operation – Titania might have been able to work a miracle. On the other hand, Carnby might have had some success down in the archives, with whatever it is he's so busy with.

Right, you should check on Petra. You single girls should stick together, after all. You should also get to work on gathering up as much intelligence as possible on Michael, if you're to fight him. Hopefully you'll have a little more to go on this time, compared with the veil of mystery surrounding Gabriel. First, as you walk, you summon Undine.

“Hey boss, Michael, right?” the little demon asks, cutting you off before you can ask her your questions. “Ah, don't look at me like that, the whole world is talking about it! The Archangel Michael, here to smite evil and clean up the streets – it's big news. I figured you'd want to take a swing at him soon enough.”

Are you really that predictable?

“Sorry!” Undine shrugs, “Let me see... Strengths, to start with. He's got a spear that's capable of reducing a devil to dust in a single blow – or so I hear – and he'll probably try to use that before anything else. Fire magic, if the simple option doesn't work, and holy stuff. Second only to Metatron, I hear, in terms of holy magic. Better watch out for that.”

Huh. And weaknesses? You ask this, but Undine only pauses, looking at you with something approaching pity. Weaknesses, you repeat, he DOES have weaknesses, right?

“Ah, um, not really,” Undine mumbles, “I mean, he's not immune to physical attacks. Fire is useless, but other magic might work. Maybe.”

That... doesn't sound like anything you can't handle, you tell Undine with a weak smile, you can deal with that.

“Boss,” the water sprite pats you on the shoulder, “That's the spirit. Confidence is half the battle. I'll be rooting for you!” Then, after you offer Undine your weary thanks, you return her to storage and knock on the door of your old room.

Petra is there, sitting up in your old bed, with a surprisingly empty look on her face. Strips of white linen are wrapped around her eyes and nose, with only her mouth left totally unscathed. As you close the door, she cocks her head to the side, listening to the sound of your entrance.

“They say nothing can be done,” the blind girl states, her voice flat and defeated, “Not even the strongest magic they have can help.” Before you can say anything – to raise the possibility of Scathach's operation, perhaps – Petra speaks up again, in the tone of someone deliberately changing the subject. “There was someone here, earlier, looking for Amelia. He said he had made a discovery, but he wouldn't say anything else,” a slight smile touches her lips, “I think it was supposed to be a secret.”

Oh, that must have been Carnby. Typical – the one time he leaves his little bunker, you were outside. You'll have to check on him later. Sitting on the corner of your old bed – Petra's bed, now – you delicately raise the issue of Scathach's operation. How, you ask Petra, does she feel about demon eyes? Hammering random bits of monster into her skull – it's kind of a big deal.

“I'll do it,” Petra announces immediately, “Whatever it takes. I don't care what you can get, I'll take a dog's eye if I had to. I refuse to live like this.”

Well. That's a pretty clear answer. You weren't expecting an answer quite so soon, but you'll take it. No sense in waiting around.

“You're Amelia, then?” Petra asks suddenly, “The girl he was looking for?”

You pause before confirming Petra's guess. Doesn't she remember you? True, she can't exactly recognise your face, but still...

“My memory,” the blind girl offers you a grim smile, “Is not so good these days. Still, I thought I knew you from somewhere. You seemed so... familiar.”

You could, right now, remind the girl of the fact that she pointed a gun at you – but what would be the point? There's no sense in digging up old dirt and damaging any chance of building some kind of alliance – a friendship, even - between the two of you. Instead, you offer her a vague reassurance and restate that you'll be working on getting her a new eye – maybe even something better than a dog's eye!

“Maybe,” Petra tilts her head to the side and smiles, “My bag, there. The stone is inside. You're welcome to it – the least I can do, for everything you've done.”

Well, you were going to ask, but that just makes things easier. You take the girl's rucksack and begin to rummage through it. After sorting through several knives, boxes of ammunition and even a holstered pistol, you come across the object of your desires. The Deathstone, a fist sized lump of some glossy black material. Beautiful, in a way, but holding it gives you a vague sense of dread. You can sense the power waiting within, and a hunger for fresh blood. With all these knives, it would be easy to slit your palm and give the Deathstone what it desires.

This is going to suck, you tell yourself as you pull across an empty bowl and take one of Petra's knives. These things, you tell the blind girl in an off-hand voice, are illegal. Knife crime is no laughing matter.

“I must have forgotten that law,” Petra replies in a deadpan voice. You laugh, nervously, as you take the knife and draw it down your palm in a long stroke. Pain strikes you, shooting right up your arm as the bright blood gushes from the wound to fill the bowl beneath you. Even as the wound opens, it almost immediately begins to close up again as the healing magic of your ring – uncomfortably warm against your bare skin – begins to take effect. By the time the bowl is full of the glistening red liquid the gash has already healed, leaving nothing but a faint ridge of scar tissue.

If this works, you ask Petra, and you can give her back her sight, is she willing to fight on your side? You share the same goals, after all. Against God and Lucifer both. As she considers the offer in silence – thinking more carefully about this issue, at least – you place the Deathstone into the bowl of blood and begin to smear the vital fluid onto every inch of its surface. From within, a dull light begins to swell until the entire stone is lit up.

“I'll do it,” Petra announces, resolute, “If I can fight, I will.”

Excellent, you reply as you pluck the stone from the bowl. You notice, a chilling moment later, that the bowl is empty and the surface of the stone is dry. The blood, absorbed into it, churns within countless minute veins and vessels that run throughout the stone. After thinking for a moment, you toss the stone into Petra's lap. She can have it.
>>
>>42925521

“You're giving it away?” the blind girl gasps, fumbling to pick up the stone and hold it tightly to her breast, “Why?”

Because of something someone told you once, you tell her. They claimed that mankind existed only to seek more power – for themselves, and themselves only. You want to prove that humans can work together, becoming something greater than they could ever be on their own. That's why you're doing this.

“I'm impressed,” Petra murmurs, pressing the Deathstone to her bare cheek as though testing it for warmth, “Human blood, yes? That was the secret?”

She could tell, just by – what? - smelling the damn thing?

“You mentioned my knives, then hissed in pain,” again, a small smile creases Petra's lips, “Call it a lucky guess, yes?”

Yeah okay, you laugh as you look down at the healed wound on your palm, stupid question. Still, you've got some work to do – lots of irons in lots of fires and all that. You bid Petra farewell, and let yourself out. Now what? Carnby seemed to think he was onto something – the fact that he was willing to come bursting into what he thought was your room suggests the seriousness of the situation – and you'd like to know what it was. The final cornerstone, perhaps?

It probably IS important. Carnby wouldn't have come barging into your room just because he'd found a must-read book down there in his collection. At least, that's what you hope. It would say a lot about your father's priorities if he did. You walk slowly in the directions of the archives, thinking hard about the possibilities. Maybe he's finally finished that DevilSP app he'd promised back then, although you're starting to doubt it. It would be useful – and that's why you doubt it.

“Ah, hello Amelia,” Carnby says when he sees you. He's actually outside the archives for once, although admittedly only lingering in the doorway. Still, he's the one who hurries to meet you rather than the other way around. “Have you, ah, changed rooms? I visited earlier, but there was someone else in your... bed,” Carnby swallows heavily, with the air of a man about to plunge over a deadly precipice, “I know this doesn't mean much, coming from me, but I'll support you whatever lifestyle you choose.”

You stare in silence at your father for a moment, watching him shift on the spot with more awkwardness than you've ever seen in a single human being. Did he just suggest what you think he just suggested? You close your eyes and take a long, deep breath before asking, in a clear voice, what he wanted to tell you.

“Yes, of course!” Carnby looks relieved, “I DID have something to tell you! It concerns the fourth cornerstone. I must say though, I don't think you're going to like this...”

You'll like it a lot more than anything else he might say. Sure, you know that it's going to suck – he'll tell you that it's in some awkward place, or there's an entire army surrounding it. It was always going to be bad news, but you're prepared for that. So, you tell your father patiently, maybe he can just tell you?
>>
>>42926086

“Yes, well,” Carnby takes a slip of paper from his pocket and pressed it into your palm, “I copied this from the prophecies. I think I can find the cornerstone, in time, but... should I?” Frowning at his vague words, you unfold the paper and read the scrawled words.

>When the four corners are aligned, all the world will be judged and cast into the fire.

Okay, so that DOES sound pretty ominous, you'll admit that. It's just a prophecy though, Carnby himself said that there were countless alternate versions of events written down in those things – it doesn't automatically mean it's true, does it?

“I found it in the prophecies,” Carnby whispers, looking at you with wide and worried eyes, “All of them. Every one that I checked, that exact same line! If it's true, then when all the cornerstones are activated... I don't know. This is an awful world, but being cast into the fire sounds a lot worse!”

Scowling hard, you think about what he's telling you. You suspected that something like this might happen, that some cataclysm might strike the world as the Tower emerges. An earthquake, perhaps, or some other natural disaster. This, though, sounds biblical – and nothing biblical has ever ended well, in your experience. Naked fear is visible in Carnby's eyes as he watches you. Is he waiting for you to reassure him?

You get what he's trying to say, you really do. Carnby is worried that activating all four of the cornerstones is going to blow up the world or something, and he's hoping – or at the very least, suggesting – that you don't activate the last one. Unfortunately, it's really not that simple. Regardless of whether or not you do anything, there will always be the other major powers trying to claim it for themselves. Sooner or later, one of them will be successful, and then what? It'll trigger this terrible calamity AND aid your enemies. Not at all good.

Whatever happens, the Tower might well be the only safe place in the world when everything kicks off. That means you'll need to get there – and get everyone there – as quickly as possible when the time comes.

“So it's inevitable then...” Carnby murmurs, some of the fear – but much of the hope – seeping from his face, “I see. The wheels are in motion, and all we can do is hope for the best. You will be careful, yes? I... worry.”

Of course you'll be careful, you awkwardly promise your father. It's moments like these that make you long for the days when you were just a teacher and student. Simpler times, without the painful bond that is still forming between you. Forcing a smile – and a change of subject – you ask Carnby is he can actually find the last cornerstone. It's not totally lost or anything, right?

“I... can,” Carnby admits, “I believe I've found several references that might hint to a location. I've still got some translation to finish, and then I'll need to interpret the clues, but...” suddenly, Carnby snaps his fingers, “Oh! It's finished! I meant to tell you, you see, but I forgot when I saw... ah, never mind that. It's that upgrade, remember? Finally finished!”

Excellent. Nodding happily, you let Carnby lead you to his old room – his “workshop” he calls it.
>>
>>42926699

“You see, it's not a matter of technology alone,” Carnby rambles as he plugs your phone into one of the numerous computers dotted about his cluttered, cramped room, “Have I told you this before? Ah well, the main problem with approaching this from a modern perspective is...”

And so he goes, talking about mysticism and loss of faith until you can barely follow his words. It's about at the point when he first mentions “metaphysics” that you tune him out completely and concentrate, instead, on studying the room itself. The bed looks unused and the air has the dusty scent of a long abandoned building. The lack of unfinished food scattered about tells you that he's not been in here for a long time. It seems that your old professor has swapped his computers for good old fashioned books and scrolls.

“This place, you know,” Carnby says suddenly, ending his lecture to speak in a warmer, more personal tone, “This kingdom. I love it here – it has everything I could ever want here, more books than I could ever read, and so many fascinating people. I'm happy we came here, even if our reason for coming was so... terrible. In a way, I wish we could all stay here forever. As a...”

A family? The words almost stick in your throat as you finish his sentence. The world might be ending soon – again – and this is the moment he chooses? You sit down on his bed and stare hard at the wall. You don't want to just stay here – even if you did, you don't know if you could. You've built up so much momentum, you doubt you could stop what you've set in motion. It's like he said, the wheels are in motion.

“There, finished,” Carnby hands your phone over, not quite meeting your eye, “I'll get Cassandra's phone later. Is she around?”

>Demon storage increased to 12, summons increased to 3
>>
>>42926895

She's busy, you tell Carnby hastily. Said she had something important to do, something really important. You offer him a weak shrug as well, just to make sure he gets the impression that you don't know what she's doing. Well, technically you don't know what she's doing – not down to the exact details anyway – but that's the way you'd prefer to keep it.

“Well, there's no hurry,” Carnby says, frowning slightly in a way that suggests it IS a hurry, “I won't keep you, Amelia. I'm sure you've got some important work to do. I should work on that translation as well – it, ah, it won't do itself!” He forces a smile at that, playing at the dutiful researcher. It's a sight that makes you feel bad, although you're not quite sure why.

Important work to do, huh? Well, he might be right. You could work on trying to hunt down Michael – you'd rather hit him on your terms than on his – or you could track down an alternative source of an eyeball. Other than that, though, you can't really do much until you've got that location.

Right, you agree with Carnby, you've got something to take care of. Just a little business, nothing special. Still, he needs to take a break, otherwise he's going to burn himself out with this researching business. In fact, you're making this an order – he's going to find a gang of fairies, and he's going to party like there's no tomorrow! Well, maybe she shouldn't go that far, but anything would be better than slinking back down to the archives.

“A party, you say?” the professor rubs a hand across his stubble, “Yes, I suppose it would be nice to indulge a little. Maybe a nice dinner, I wonder if queen Titania...”

That sounds like your cue to exit, before you hear too much of something you'd rather not know. You remind Carnby of his new mission and leave, your mind already straying to the business ahead. The best thing you can do right now is lure Michael into an ambush and, if possible, crush him in a single decisive strike. Is it likely to be that easy? Hell no, but at least you can try. For that, you'll need to draw him out with a juicy tip.

The Hellfire Club, then. Nebiros seems to have his finger on the pulse of everything that goes on in London, so he can probably steer the rumours into something that benefits you. Maybe he'll even do it for free, since you're such good friends? Well, you can always hope. You think about what you have to offer, just in case, all the time you walk to the Hellfire Club. When you arrive, Belial – Nebiros' stocky, taciturn companion – is outside, sweeping the pavement in front of the entrance. A strange sight, as though there was nothing wrong in the world save for some dirty steps.
>>
>>42927231

“Hello stranger,” he rumbles as you approach, looking up from his sweepings to give you a deep nod. You've always liked Belial, even if he usually sticks to the background and lets his companion do most of the talking. He's always seemed like an honest man, the kind with dirt under their fingernails. Not literally, of course – he's as impeccable as his friend, in his dark suit and tie – but the idea is the same. On some strange impulse, you lean on the wall nearby and return his greeting.

“World's a changing place,” he says simply, after a while, “King Oberon is no more. Your doing?”

That's right, you tell him, although you didn't pull the trigger. Looks like it's queen Titania now, you add, until the next little bout of regicide swings around. Is it for the best? Well, all you can do is wait and see what the future holds.

“I've worked with her before,” Belial mentions, off-hand, “She's a hard woman, but I think she'll be a strong leader. Could be worse, at least. So what brings you here, human?”

Business, you shrug, you need someone to know where you're going to be – or at least, where you claim you're going to be. An ambush, you add, rather unnecessarily.

“I see,” Belial thinks on it for a moment, “And this person has wings and a halo, yes? We've heard word that Michael is looking for you. It takes a lot for an Archangel to darken our doorstep – he'll chase after any rumour he hears.”

That's exactly what you were hoping to hear. Thanking Belial for his time, you enter the dark club and spot Nebiros. He's at the bar, speaking carefully with a robed figure – an angel. His thin shoulders are tense, and his face is dark with irritation. His eyes widen slightly when he sees you, and the angel he was arguing with looks around as well. When it sees you, it glares enormously.

“Neutral ground, ladies and gentlemen,” Nebiros murmurs, “If you want to fight, take it outside. Out back, please, I've just had the front step cleaned.”

“Human,” the angel barks, “You are wanted throughout the land, and the Lord's servants from every level of the hierarchy call for your death! Yet still you walk in here, without a single concern – arrogance!”

You glance at Nebiros, who offers you a minute shrug. No, not a shrug, a nod towards one of the side rooms. An offer of privacy, if you want it. Or, if you were feeling brazen, you could just call out this angel here and now, in full view of the entire club. It's a risk, but it's exactly the kind of “arrogance” that this angel would expect from a human like you. No doubt it would believe every word that came out of your mouth.

Much like the arrogance of a certain Seraph, coming down from heaven a claiming to be able to take me down, despite the fact three of his fellows failed miserably. Trying the same action over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity. I thought that was the domain of Lucifer and his ilk, now I'm not so sure. Especially since an angel's blood is no different than a devil's.

Looking the robed angel in the eye, you grin savagely. The arrogance of a human? Coming down from Heaven claiming to be ready to take you down sounds pretty arrogant to you, especially when they've failed three times already. If anything, trying the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result – the definition of insanity – sounds more like the domain of Lucifer and his ilk. Then again, you add with a final sneer, maybe there isn't that much of a difference – after all, angel blood smells much the same as a devil's.

And you've smelled plenty of both, you finish, planting your hands on your hips and giving the enraged angel a smug smile. So, he can take that message and give it to his master, wherever that coward might be lurking.

“Name your time and place,” the angel manages to spit out, his words choked with outrage, “And the great Archangel shall meet you there, to teach you the meaning of cowardice – he'll carve it into your back as you flee from his power!”

Yeah whatever, you sneer. Time and place? You make a show of thinking out loud, humming in front of the furious angel and the amused onlookers. Noon tomorrow, you announce, in front of the old hospital. He'll know the place, you're sure.

The angel writes the details down on the scroll it carries, each word smoking as it is burned onto the page. “The duel is arranged,” it snaps, “Unless you wish to die early – I would be only too happy to teach you a little humility, human filth!”

“Outside, then,” the angel agrees, “Away from this den of sin and iniquity.”

You step back, holding out one hand as you encourage the angel to lead the way. It drifts towards the back exit, utter confidence obvious in its unhurried movements. Nebiros, as you pass him, murmurs a hushed “good luck” to you but offers no other reaction. Perhaps this is a common sight here, two angry demons taking their “argument” outside to solve things the old fashioned way. Now you're just one more faceless brawler, ready to shed some blood. Not just blood – you couldn't help but notice how nice that angel's eyes were...

Out in the back alleyway, you slide a hand into your pocket and touch your phone, ready to summon your demons to battle. Three, now – it's less a choice of which demons to send into battle, and which demons will leave enough intact for you to collect.

“You hesitate,” the angel sneers, mistaking your moment of thought for fearfulness, “Are you regretting your decision, worm?”

The only thing you're going to regret, you tell the arrogant angel, is making a mess of Nebiros' nice clean alleyway. With that, and before the Lord's minion can get in another word, you pull your phone out and summon your demons. Undine and Heartless appear at either side of you, while Hresvelgr darkens the sky above. The angel's eyes – a brilliant shade of green – grow wide in fear, and it actually drifts backwards until its back hits the wall.

So, speaking of regretting decisions, are they starting to have any regrets? Maybe they would like to take back some of their nasty words?

“I commend my soul to the Lord,” the angel says, resolute despite the fear in its face, “Heaven awaits me – can you say the same?”

Frankly, you really couldn't care any more. You're not here to listen to any sermons or threats of damnation – you're here to send a message, and gather some... materials. You glance to your side, nodding to Heartless – pin it down, you tell the murderous demon with a silent thought, but don't kill it. It's hard to tell, but at that last part of your orders Heartless seems to slump slightly, looking less enthusiastic about the whole ordeal. Tough luck – you want this angel alive long enough to carry a message.

The whole “conversation” lasts a second at most, and before it is even over, Heartless has hurled itself at the angel, ploughing into the thing with a terrifying screech. The fight is over before it begins, with Heartless plunging long metal stakes into the angel's thighs and biceps and pinning it to the ground. “Not dead,” Heartless growls, with an apparent pride – as though not killing someone is a task worthy of congratulations.

Right. Well then, you mutter as you look down at the struggling, groaning angel. Begin the operation!

“Human,” the angel gasps as you unscrew the metal cylinder and pull out a long scalpel, “Have you fallen so far? Kill me if you must, I welcome death in the Lord's service, but do not brutalise me!”

Sorry, you murmur as you pull its eye wide open and clip it there. It's not personal, they've just got something you need. Then, with the scalpel held in your grip – shaking only slightly – you reach down into its exposed eye socket. Too late, you realise that Scathach didn't tell you a damn thing about cutting out eyes, only that you were supposed to keep it as intact as possible. You can sort of see a cord of some kind leading back from the eye – cut that, perhaps? It's hard to concentrate, especially with the angel trembling and yelling.

Oh shut up and stay still, you snarl as the angel twists its head just before you make the first incision. Heartless, standing nearby, reaches down and grabs the angel's head, holding it still. Good, you murmur, ignoring the trickles of blood running down the angel's cheeks as Heartless' claws dig in. Then, with a kind of resigned hope, you lunge forwards with the scalpel and slice through the cord. The angel howls with agony as you tilts its head to the side, causing the eye to drop neatly into your hand.

Well then, that looks more or less intact. You drop the slippery specimen into the flask – suddenly realising just how disgusting it feels – and screw the lid on tightly. Then, standing up and taking a step away, you let Heartless pull the stakes from its arms. They'll have to work their legs free on their own – you might as well have a head start.

Now, you just need to get Petra back to the hospital.

“Remember this,” you hear Heartless hiss as you leave the alleyway, the killer's voice only slightly muffled by the angel's sobbing.

I was really hoping Petra would get an angel's eye, actually. There is going to be a side effect:

>>
>>42928598

>>
>>42928733
Okay so Chernobog. What exactly is his and Petra's relation? Is he possessing her? Did he give her a demon summoning tool?
>>
>>42928733
Heartless Approve? How queasy was Undine? Hresvalgr's thoughts? Material rank of the Domnion's eye overall. Petra still have her cellphone?

>>
>>42928782
>>42928793
>>42928831

This is pretty unlikely to come up in character, so I'll offer an explanation here. Petra made a pact with Chernobog which gave her the knowledge to create a summoning device from spare parts. This knowledge is paid for with her own memories, and a general physical sickness. Now, with the device made, she can make contracts with other demons as normal.

Chernobog can't possess her, but he does have a fairly overbearing manner and doesn't like humanity much.
>>
>>42928914
Couldn't she release Chernobog now that the summoning device is made? Wouldn't that sever the pact?
>>
>>42928914
Theoretically, if we found another cellphone in the wastes, and it was usable, could we have Carnby load it u like Our phone for summoning and get Petra out from under Chern's grasp?

True and I really enjoy that fact. Though you could argue that she indirectly killed Leon, which she herself admits to.

Sadly Joseph might be number 1 unless we find a way to purge just Mastema. And even he might be a zealot for god.
>>
>>42929821
>And even he might be a zealot for god.
And even then he might still be a zealot for god.*

I need to proofread more.
>>
>>42929821
>killed Leon
Nah, he'll be back
>>
>>42929821
>>42929835
Agreed.

>>42929786
Has Carnby tried to get a faerie or something as an assistant in his service? Is it possible he might do so at the party(before or after boning Titiania)
>>
>>42929842
You know what I mean. Even if he somehow becomes the Legendary Super Demon you want as a human he still got flat-lined by Alice.
>>
>>42929821

I think if Amelia is forced to kill Joseph, it could be a real turning point for her.

>>42929865

Carnby does have assistants in the fairy kingdom, but none of them are fully contracted demons. Afraid of commitment, perhaps?
>>
>>42929928
>Afraid of commitment, perhaps?
This is Carnby, so probably. Then again I've yet to meet a monogamous fairy. As far as killing Joseph, it depends on what he does. He's already pretty deep on her shit list for poisoning us.
>>
>>42929928
>I think if Amelia is forced to kill Joseph, it could be a real turning point for her.

Hmm, maybe we should look into ways to remove Angelic possession.
>>
>>42929969
Maybe we could get Petra to do it for us?
>>
>>42929981
Thats just passing the buck. If we want him dead then we'll do it ourselves. Otherwise that makes it seem like we lack conviction.

I just want to see if there are alternatives.
>>
>>42930017
This, so much this. Although Joseph seems like a zealout dedicated to Mastema over God, so that may not work.
>>
>>42930045
I know. Like Moloch said it might be a turning point. A fellow human that is so far indoctrinated in another side that it becomes kill or be killed.

So glad we were able to slowly change Cass to Neutral.
>>
>>42930074
Same, the back up was nice, but the SAN benefits for having a real friend is off the charts.
>>
>>42930093
Makes me wonder how things would have turned out if she wasn't here.

That reminds me of a question I had. What effect does the full moon have on humans? Amelia seemed a lot more aggressive and ruthless during that one night but that was also after she found out about the Outsider.
>>
>>42930127
>Makes me wonder how things would have turned out if she wasn't here.

I wonder how either of them would have handled Gabriel's death alone. I felt that event shook both of them pretty hard at the time.
>>
>>42930127
>Makes me wonder how things would have turned out if she wasn't here.

We'd probably be mix between the crazy of Petra and arrogance of Luci, while being more callous and jaded than both.
>>
>>42930145
>Gabriel's death
Got to admit I felt a little bad about that. 2gruesome4me
>>
>>42930127
>Amelia seemed a lot more aggressive and ruthless during that one night

Slamming Mot's coffin shut with our fist and severing his arm was pretty metal and awesome. Especially after he tried to mess with our head.
>>
>>42930186
Yeah, she really hate people fucking with her head. Can't blame her really.
>>
>>42930127
>What effect does the full moon have on humans?

The full moon does have an effect on humans, but its a lot less intense than the effect demons or fairies get. Amelia had also just had a fair shock, so it was pretty much a mix of factors.
>>
Guys we need a demon gun. Any ideas?
>>
>>42930246
Itemize one of our demons into our pistol?

Best bet would be Pixie for some lightning, but we would be giving up a back up healer. We could ask what Scathach has in stock and maybe do a favor for her in return.
>>
>>42930280
Pixie was given to us as an aide by the Faerie court too, the diplomatic implications of weaponizing her would be.......messy. Even if she did agree. We should probably look at Scathach either for leads on a suitable demon or to favor exchange for one.
>>
>>42930304
Actually I think she is pretty much a free agent at this point with no real ties other than being a fairy.

Right Moloch?
>>
>>42930329

By this point, Amelia has a pretty safe place in the court. It might raise a few eyebrows, forging Pixie into an item, but that's not very important now. Titania has Amelia's back, especially after we rescued her
>>
>>42930374
Cass hate guns as much as Amelia does?
>>
>>42930395

She doesn't hate guns, but she might need teaching which end is pointed at the enemy.
>>
>>42930476
OK, it might be worth considering getting her a ranged alternative as well. Some of these demons like Michael you don't want to be anywhere near.

Have a good night Moloch
>>
>>42930527

Good night - your continued participation is always appreciated!
>>
>>42930562
Could we find some old hunting rifles, have Heartless spike and cap a few demons and have Scathach whip something up?
>>
>>42930568

I imagine there be something similar, a marksman's rifle or something, in the police armoury. Throw some demons in there, and it could certainly work. I'll have to look up some interesting demons for that.
>>
>>42930632
I mean I just want something with better range and kick than a bog standard pistol. So it's either a rifle or a shotgun. Shotguns get us too close for comfort. I want something with some kick to it, since our smarter opponents will come right after us, and being able to respond before they close is good.
>>
>>42929583
Part of me wonders what would happen if we gave our own eye instead

Less for power, more out of refusing to go that low.
>>
Cass needs some Null Light. Even if she gets the Cu, we're lacking in defense against hama.

That said, Outsider might just go almighty on us.
>>
>>42936223
I think Cass has that silver cross that resists light magic. Oberon had a gold one as well that he claimed granted immunity. Maybe Titania has it stashed away somewhere?
>>
>>42936602
Speaking of fae artifacts, what would happen if we put the lunar crown on a boss angel/demon?
>>
>>42936729
That's pretty hard to say. It might not do anything at all if it's supposed to be worn by a fairy. If it does make them crazy it might take longer to take effect. Oberon didn't go nuts immediately though
>>
>>42936834
Ah, but some are already unhinged due to the lack of cornerstones.

But I'm mainly banking on the moonstone, since the moon affects pretty much everyone.
>>
>>42937083
>>42936834

I wasn't expecting this thread to still be here when I woke up!

On the subject of the Lunar Crown, it would cause insanity in anyone who wears it - specifically filling them with paranoia and a desire for control. Fairies are more vulnerable to this, but any demon can be effected. Humans are very resistant, but still not immune.
