Adventurers have long been known to slay small creatures that have caused issues to Towns, Merchants, and Farmsteads. One of these races are known to be Kobolds and unlike the Goblin kin they are less known for wanton murder and more for their mines and traps.
- Excerpt from Lord Byron's Draconic Notebook on Kobold History.

Your name is JaMazo, and you are a young Kobold within your HighStone Clan within the mountain ranges near where humans have been settling and stealing land from your clan.

As one day you were hunting, as all younger kobolds are apt to do you and your three friends notice a small pillar of smoke coming from the clan hold. Returning back, you notice that there are...Adventurers attacking with whips and other odd weapons to knock out your fellows!

You could escape with your friends or go to join the fight against the big folk oppressors.

A: Save your clan! Charge with your spears!

The Third B-
You are the eldest of your three friends, and soon you would have taken a place not as a scavenger but as a more important part of the tribe after you had lead a few successful hunts.

"Run. Run run run!" You order your fellows, who soon follow after you through the undergrowth. Two holding small crossbows and the other, like you, holding a long spear. As you flee, you know of few options of where you and your younger kin could hide...

A: A Small cave where your tribe sometimes stored excess food with it's enterance hidden to he forest by some stone covers.
B: The small goblin tribe to the north, their cave was crude but they were more than willing to trade with the Kobolds for shiny things in exchange for the wood and things they found.
C: An Orc tribe occassionally made camp nearby, perhaps they'd assist!
D: To the Big Folk's Town, try to find a hiding place in their own settlement!
>>
>>42908707
Goblins, Orcs and Humans will all murder us.
A is the least awful option.
>>
>A: A Small cave where your tribe sometimes stored excess food with it's enterance hidden to he forest by some stone covers.
>>
>>42908707

>>
>>42908707

A is most reasonable, D sounds interesting.

You struggle to get the younglings, up to the small entrance to the cavern. Kobolds even had to crawl to get into the small cavern. Luckily nothing had gotten too damaged by the elements of savaging mountain badgers. You look at the small 'camp' that is set up here during the winter to help guard the supplies until they run out for the kobold's extra food.

There was roughly a weeks worth of food now, it was spring so most was eaten and little was placed back in here at the moment.

Jamazo rummaged through the additional old gear as well...he was training to be something special he felt...he kept looking until he found"

Alchemist Wins
Green Also Wins!
------
JaMazo pulled out a few bottles and set up a small alchemy table from the random junk his fellows kept in this cave. The younglings focusing on preparing the food they caught as you focused on your own work.

You looked at your supplies, roughly half of it could be used at the moment with the rest of the reagents having to be pickled or dried out first...not the best but not the worst.

Rubbing your light green scales it comes to mind that...everyone else in the clan could and most likely were Dead. All that was left were the small hunting party of you and the other three. You were the eldest...and thus by default the Chief.

The younglings get to work quickly as you begin to work at the small corner. They set up a few small beds from the spare moldy bedrolls scavanged from adventurer's corpses along with that they work on making small areas for each of them, Jamazo's being the furthest from the door and closest to the Alchemy gear.

Sending the younglings out to arm a few basic traps wasn't too difficult, mostly snares and one pitfall had to be reset with a recovering of moss and twigs. It would help defend and maybe catch a few animals every few days if they were lucky.

The others picked out weapons they prefered, the two sisters picked out clubs and small wooden shields to help defend themselves while the other younger male kept his crossbow at the ready and the spear of one of the females.

As the group returns to the clan's meeting spot, carrying their weapons and potions just in case...they find that there their cavern's opening is covered by a large boulder, most likely apart of the cliff far above from the large hole in it. Knocked down by what probably was a dwarf.

Of course, all clan homes had multiple enterances but as they were explored...all were sealed and those that were not lead to empty rooms that were sealed. It seemed whatever lead the adventurers here knew of the tunnels.

Only blood remained, no bodies and only blood staining the stones...

Using the clubs and a few old stone pickaxes from days gone past, the four work together and dig away a few small tunnels that barely have any stones in them. What they find causes their hearts to sing.

Eggs, Five kobold eggs of different colors were hidden in the hatchery that few knew about. Thank the gods they were safe. The others pick up them and find the former guard's chair gone and blood splattering the ground around it...

Next to the hatchery they were digging and found one of the walls loose, within was a large bag filled with alchemical reagents, enough to last weeks on constant use without fair to make many different potions.

The final item they found was something they all stared at, The Chief's Staff. A symbol of the ancient times when the Dragons ruled and gifted Kobold's with their Draconic blood...wrought of Bronze and topped with a glowing crystal that JaMazo took and held up in defiance...the Tribe Lived and would continue to survive.

Heading back home, and carrying supplies to make a proper hatchery area in the cave wasn't too hard. The Eggs aren't huge compaired to the Kobold's size. And such a small area is dug out to keep them warm and tended to by the sisters.

JaMazo works a few times and makes sure to store the extra three potions (Two for himself and one for the others each) And looked at the supplies around him taking stock.

He had three younglings, two females and another younger male. Along with a batch of Five eggs of unknown gender. That was his current 'clan'

For supplies he had a few potions, reagents to make more potions, and at the bottom of the bag roughly twenty shiny gold coins he could use to buy things from big folks or other intelligent folk...

Around him he had food, a slightly defended lair, and a bunch of looted garbage that younglings had picked up in the past and kept here to fiddle with or allow others to fiddle with.

The potion created is one of great curiosity now. A Potion of Red Dragon's breath. A recipe handed down through clan alchemists as they purify the power of dragons to a liquid base. Allowing the drinker to use the Dragon's Breath weapon, in this case fire, a limited time during a battle.

A Champion of a Kobold Clan could easily fend off weaker adventurers or even larger monsters seeking to eat them if they ingested such a thing.

"We are going to see the Goblins!" You annouce, and tell the other male youngling to guard the egg and head out armed with this potion and the gold and other minor shiny objects goblins enjoy. Caltrops, fish hooks, and a few simple shiny stones they throw at horses. A few things of real value the intelligent ones would like, and a few others for the not so intelligent ones.

-
Heading over to the small goblin village wasn't hard, the smell lead them to the quickest route and it was well known to the kobolds. The wall surrounding them were made of trees and fortified bits of broken wagons at the back of a small canyon.

The gates were opened, and a human was strung up on a tree outside of the village by a rope and quiet dead. Not to mention filfthy and half burnt. Seems they had visitors as well.

"Oh ya wanna talk to Chief Gutmuk?" HE asks waving you in and hoping down onto the dirt, and shouldering a simple spear. "I lead you. Come." He said walking down the central street of the village.

The kobolds looked around and noticed many of the goblins were on their guard, and the chief's house, as it was a former human hermit's private home, was well guarded. More so than the walls.

Opening the door to show the Chief's 'Throne Room' showed even more guards and many of the village's females and younglings.

The chief was a disgusting fellow, and hawked a large bit of bile onto the floor and wiped his mouth.

"What you want?"

My people can make useful things for your people - traps, potions, some weapons maybe. In exchange, we want protection and help. Working together, we will both be twice as safe."

The kobolds, now armed with their new maces and human book. It seemed to be about 'Creatures from The Deep Caverns of the world'. Going out it also points out that other species including Kobold, Deep Gnomes (Jamazo drew a few rude thins on their page), Dark Skinned Elves, and Dark Dwarves. All rather 'evil' and all seemed to be dangerous to the goodly races.

Good for Kobolds, Bad for Humies.

The cave they mentioned was somewhat well known, most of the creatures around the area avoided it due to...well everything that goes up there ends up Dead or dying.

As JaMazo headed up he noticed a few things...one of which being a corpse of a few humans along the path stripped of most valuables. A good sign.

As the cave truly came into view...a new feature was added. A Velvet curtain strung over the front with a light coming out from it and a shadowy figure sitting in a silhouette behind it.

You order the others to hang back with you...and decide to take cover behind a small pile of halfling in black clothing with matching rings.

As the moon rises and the sun sets the curtain is parted and a black skinned elf steps out into the night. Stretching in armor and a blade strapped to her belt along with a shield on her back she looks around searching for something for a moment before pulling something out of her belt and flinging it at another figure that drops like a stone down the mountain path. Watching the Dark Elf stalk by was rather scary, her eyes shining dark red as she passed by and toward the adventurer. She seemed to kneel down and make a swift motion and hidious gurgling sound before starting to drag it back to the cave and throwing a knife nearby, covered in blood into the dirt sticking hilt up.

That would ruin the knife, at least that was JaMazo's first thought.

Drow are known for a few things.
Spiders. Murder. Hatred of most surface life but some are known to actually enjoy the company of small creatures like Kobolds.
One note in the book mentions a Kobold Hero who had ventured into the Underdark and never returned simply because he had become a favored pet of a Matron Mother. A good sign!
-
As the group ventured toward the cave they stepped a twig and the curtain swung open showing the Drow female holding a dagger...they stared at one another in a mix of fear and amazement.

A Single second passed before Jamazo was picked up and hugged by the Drow speaking some odd language hugging him to her bosom.

Reaching around and hugging back caused the Drow to make a high pitched sound similiar to that the females made when hatchlings had discovered their tails and began to chase them.

Eventually the hugging stopped and the drow woman pushed him away, looking him in the eyes...and showing she had only one functionin one and one that was a nasty milky white before putting him down and brushing away her hair and kneeling.

"What are you doing here...you and your little friends Kobold? Looking for something to Eat or something?" She asked a bit amused now.

The leading was quick, and she even had given the two female younglings a pair of new 'ear rings' they placed around their growing spikes that looked rather nice.

Walking through the night was less dangerous with the Drow, who they were told to call Vastana. She told little about herself other than that and she carried her own things with little to no trouble.

Her getting in lead to a few...amusing things until she had to belly crawl into it. Spooking the male left to guard that she waved to with a grin taking what was her Hammock and putting it near the Eggs.

The next morning went by rather quickly, and the Drow showed that she had a few spare things to add to the cave. Small candles, a few extra spikey decor options, and she even pulled out hammocks for all the Small Kobolds. How lucky were they.
