" I suppose you're wondering, " Why is there three scholars and not just the one ? If you've paid attention to the names we all have varying preferences and tastes of study. For example, Runner being the youngest chose the more difficult subjects to study from a book and has instead decided to hang around with you to learn about the current Runner situation. Whereas *I* have a more deeper understanding of the worlds accumulated via books. All three of us have a great understanding of Magical systems however but Questi excels at breaking those rules most of all. However being the oldest of the three by a few scant millenia expect me to be closer to those who have lived a time before the malebolgia. Only one other person surpasses me in that and I refuse to think about him.

Ah it would seem that the Deep Weasel had been left to guard a rather dangerous looking Rune. To those unfamiliar with heretical craft, Summoning relies solely on such ground borne evidences in order to draw out a constant tear in the Void to pull out such things. But if you're asking that question shouldn't you be wondering if you yourself was not the weasel all along ?

So, let's say I attack an enemy I have [knocked down]. Will I by able to bypass his gear, or even just his shield ?

Also, I'm a knight in armor, would it be possible to [pin down] a downed enemy roughly my size ?

I'm asking for... Reasons.

In a sense no. One may outrun the malebolgia through space travel or aethernautic propulsion known also as "ascending" It is important to note that the "Rift" that the stairs reside in act as a buffer zone between the Crystal Corridors and the Mal-encroached universe making it one of the most reliable methods of travel. Those wishing to use an aethercraft face the risk of travelling to the "outer wall" an ozone dense epidermis of the Spiral wrought with hazardous weather, fragmenting planetary bodies, astral giants, and various bands of pirates and Skyraiders. It does however, provide one of the fastest methods of travel and is used semi frequently by Volgon suppliers ,Ignyllian Armadas, and Qrloon merchant vessels alike.

>>42904260
Wait, so you're saying that Summoners create entire new beings whole cloth?

Before a summoner made it, deep weasels never existed, but once they did (given cracky's reaction) they had always existed from that point?
>>
>>42904331
I don't know how you got that assumption. But summoning recalls things into the Floor much in the same way the Malebolgia generates its floors: From the Aethersea. Whatever finds its way there exists, has existed, and may exist again but currently does not exist. The Aethersea of course should not be mistaken for its shadow: The Void, which also seems to pull from a realm unknown even to this universe. So to put it bluntly, anything that comes from there is new - and horrible. But at the same time ancient - and horrible. Having occupied their realm for an immeasurable amount of time doing nothing but likely acting out a primordial state of predatory life and unending death. But it was not created. That would be the realm of Gods.
>>
>>42904319
If one is downed they are undefended. But not completely. Natural defenses still hold and some armors do as well if they classify as heavy. The range of attacks that can happen on a downed opponnent increase greatly. and a Downed Opponnent is treated as if attacked from the Back in terms of vulnerability to physical damages.
>>
>>42904390
So summoning things from elsewhere is odd and strange and draws creature that lives in states of timeless death and predatory states.

So timeflow is different there than here.

Are the Deep Weasels natural in the void then, and brought here from another universe? Are Dark Weasels?

And if we lost a fellow Runner to this Outside, even if we located their soul, could we bring them back or would they be mad from timeless exposure to some other universe?
>>
Questi has mentioned the Librarians a few times. Given the Encyclopedii Astra is most likely located within their domain just what can we expect from them? Either as people allowed into the restricted section or as uninvited guests?
>>
>>42904390
Alright. I think this begs a new question?

Why are summoners so reviled that an entire span of history across multiple organizations purged information about them? Some inkling of what, exactly, they did to deserve such treatment. We have plenty of ideas about the benefits of summoning. What are the prices?
>>
>>42904870
constant tears in the Void sound plenty bad to me. Probably makes the substrate of THIS universe more porous to the OTHER universe, so things leak through.

Like drilling a hole in your boat to get water for your cup. You've filled your cup and then the hole is still there, and now the hold is slowly filling up.
>>
>>42904870
That has already been revealed. Summoners are people who willingly bind themselves to influences outside our realm. They are closer to the Pitch and the Outsiders and thus are more vulnerable to their influence.
>>
>>42904886
Yeah but I'd like confirmation of it. And having had it, we can begin looking into methods of plugging holes and sewing up tears behind us so that summoning can be practiced openly if that is the case. If there is something deeply more treacherous about the art, for example, a close link to core magic, and thus to a propensity for summoning the Mal? Then we should stop our studies here wouldn't you agree? Turns > Skills and all.

Not saying it is, I consider that possibility a worst case scenario. But we'd best find out ehn? What price are we paying here.
>>
>>42904939
Considering they can also link themselves to constellations and such, that seems a bit of a stretch that they were all tarred with the same brush? I just want to insure there's not more to it.
>>
>>42904980
Summoners were needed to fight Summoners which made everything worse. So yes the entire class got painted with the same brush.

For what we know of summoning here is the revelation from Latvian. Given the memory of that was erased as thoroughly as the Schola could get away with I don't think we'll get much more then that... unless of course Latvian's new book has more answers still.

" Ah just the thing I've been meaning to talk about. I've pored through the text that I managed to get while they weren't looking detailing the action reports of the Summoner battles that had percipitated under magical practitioners that fell under two categories, Authors being the first ones, and Editors the second. The nature of the Summoner wars have been two-fold. Authors vs. Editors, and Authors vs. Everyone else.
What was known as the Golden Age of Summoning, Authors permeated through every level of the Scholomance, having reached the height of their importance when it was discovered that through Summoning, the vicious floors and empty pockets of time like crystal corridors have been made habitable and navigable by their powers. Towns populated with peoples dreamed up from the pages of a grimoire and creatures of sustenance burden and war had padded out much of the ranks in ascension groups. However summoning was not without its price and consequence for these towns and plots of civilizations gave way to national identities and very soon after, war and strife. Authors, you see were unbounded by their ability nay their /library/ of resources for they were groomed for their role by the Scholomance as something of a prominent community leader. Indeed, kings and princes as well as Artists and Scholar were taken to such an art and has sought to have it for themselves but the Scholomance stood its ground and taught the art unequivocally to all those that could read and write. Indeed progress on the Floors have boomed more than ever, and towns if you can believe it ascended faster than the malebolgia. So why the tragedy ? Well various powers had come to the fore at the discovery of this art you see, old worlds had come to reclaim their identity however during a Spiral Festival- a 1000th floor celebration an interesting event occured, " The Malebolgia came early " A lot of the action reports here claimed them too: Pre-eminent Annihilation.
1/2
>>
>>42905824
This means that the battle had ceased to continue- because the Malebolgia had collapsed everything in sight. And it did so at unpredictable rates. And it was here that the Scholomance, The Order and the Scifaxes had figured it out, " That Summoning allowed the Malebolgia to draw in faster " In the Worlds Fair emergency meeting that was to occur at the Top Floor of that period, it was then decided. That Summoning /had/ to be abolished. But what if you were prince with a people the relied on the graces of a Life Sustaining sun god, or you were a Nation whose power had been defined by the imagination of your creations ? While a staggering amount of summoners had given up the art a Good Portion- about a third of them had already moved to find another way, an alternative solution but this movement was taken as an act too sudden to judge in its entirety and so a violent Sweep from the Order and the Volgons both had moved in to exterminate 10 whole floors. People and all. What was jarring about this development was that the two sides were not aware of each others' concerted actions and was ultimately judged as an open act of war to all Summoners. Now- I dont mean to paint them with a bad brush but the Authors in reaction to this- the ones that seperated from Runner order were people taken in by influences of their various pacts, even going on to worship the Malebolgia, or fashioned themselves a God. When finally they did find an alternative to Summoning without attracting the Ire of the Etha, the methods turned out to be themselves just as horrendous. Blood sacrifices, Soul payment, Outsider Contracts it kept a tidy balance of power in check and kept the Mal from attracting to them. Indeed it was this method that the Authors once again resumed operations at a price.

And once again would they enact another bold move- proclaiming themselves as another Nation, a purely magical one what would fuel their blood-hungry lifestyle. Heaven

>>42906036
Wars dragged on for floors and floors and it claimed lives, many many lives just to neutralize a handful of Summoners by way of Malebolgia.

Knowing that this cycle would consume too many good lives, the Scholomance led by a new Board had also proposed another bold move, to Re-instate ex-summoners on the field under a new name: Editors. The very best magical practitioners at the time were sworn in , trained and studied from. Their Summoning was among the most notorious to the most famous prior to their capture and detention in Volgon gaols. Through the Scifaxes they had concocted a new method of summoning, one which drew only the memories or souls of their creations and projected it through a token sum of Aetheryte resulting in a near perfect summoning long enough to fight for their cause for a single Floor. They called these Zodiacs, a perfect counter to the Authors' Eidolons. The book would go on to describe that the War progresses to this day, with the Editors' near victory however as fewer and fewer Authors remained, the more dangerous and cautious they've become having been chased not only by the mal but by the very Runners that once depended on them. The Editors too were shut away from society only to exist in mist. It was speculated that a good number of them have gone to The Library, an underground society that the Scholomance holds near and dear like their many books in the Deep Library. If we intend to infiltrate one, it's highly likely that one member resides down there. Yes, just one. Most Summoners have for a time always operated by themselves, even when battling another.
>>
>>42906252
"And you're seeking to discover the ways of Editing then I take it? Rather than Authoring? Since Editing seems to not have the same level of costs involved?"

Thinks on it a moment, "What's the catch? For Editors I mean? There's massive prices to be paid for Authoring, so why not Editing? And clearly Editors are just as powerful as Authors, or comparably so, to have won out in the war? Or was it just because Editors had support where as Authors did not?"
>>
THese were of course just a result of my findings, and the finding that this particular book chooses to divulge. Every scholar had tried to find ways to make Summoning as cheap and effective as possible. But I do believe that the answer lies less in being self reliant but in fact being MORE reliant to Runners around you. In this way, Summoning will be sufficient in its power and attractive ability to protect its caster. However the type we'll be looking into will take something from Zodiac style summoning, and a method I've been compiling for a while which all but confirms its ability to work.
>>
>>42906419

How does one set out to become something more than [Human]?
>>
>>42906326
The Editors' victories were by no means grand. It took a team of such people to take out one of their more notorious summoners but it still outweighed losing a whole /army/ of a 100 or so to an unending wave of monsters - only to have the floor fully devoured. No , the Editors were seen as nothing more than sacrificial lambs that were offered up to restore order. The life of genocide had surely incurred its own toll as well.

There are a slew of demihumans and othersuch creatures the progenate through siring similar to Midians, Ghouls, and Ascendants since all of them originate from parasitic races in the Pitch it is usually not wise to pursue becoming one of them. But if I'm not kidding myself just about everyone on the School Board is an immortal by these same means.

Midians are a vampiric race that sires through a blood bond. They detest sunlight and so remain in boxes or bury themselves underground while in transit waiting for the mal to block out the sun.

Ascendants are those born from an Elderitch horror, they are cursed with the "Knowledge" and 3 out of 12 children don't survive into adulthood because of incompatibilities with their home life and society. However here in the scholomance they are considered top students but are dangerously held back because their moralities develop non-instinctually. Ascendants can also shapeshift and are completely pragmatic. Those who make a pact with an elder god are cursed with this eventual fate as are their children.

Darc Weasel- You can become a darc weasel too. Just get killed by one and try it. Your thoughts and actions will be darc weasel, but your appearance will be yours !

Lycans - To become one just get murdered or bitten by one. You'll turn a little bit more doglike at night.

Haunts - people who get entangled with cursed artifacts become haunts. Depending on the curse their whole existence will be bound by such an object even after death. Destroying the cursed object kills the haunt permanently. However killing only the haunt defeaths them for a small amount of time before they re-raise again. Some teachers achieve Haunt-hood by binding their souls onto pumpkins.

PumpKinn- P-p-p-pumpkin.

From what I can gather (I'm new myself), it's a homebrew system that often gets tweaked according to what seems better.
What do you mean by numbers grid names? If you mean the whole [G4] thing, that's an identification for the character on the board: G4 would mean the 4th Guide in the game, and the piece would be a guide sprite with a 4 on it's head.

Homebrew system evolved from Skirmish Quest and Iron Hearts. Everyone plays as one of these classes (starting as one of the inner 6 base classes with two abilities and earning an ability each floor, they can also upgrade into advanced classes, keeping their old abilities but being unable to continue buying abilities from that class, and then getting new stats and abilities from their new class as they advance each floor)

Welcome to Floors, a collaborative turn-based boardgame where participants play as "chess pieces" fighting an enemy for board dominance or access to the "Stairs"

the numbered posts are essentially formatted commands that allow the game processor to know player stats whenever they make their move.

Turns take about an hour or so to process and game usually persist for days at a casual rate- mere Hours if we're hitting a stride in processing times.

Player characters die very easily in this game but rerolling a new one is fairly easy.
Everyone must work together to essentially pull off a victory , think of it as an MMO raid, only slower more colorful and probably have a bit more story going on

Ah yes, the Pumpkinn. That story has a lot of beginnings but it continues a lot like this. A race of sentient pumpkins were at one point created to have legs such that they would be able to migrate and thusly procreate as the Mal approached giving humanity a balanced diet of fruits and vegetable that they can then one day harvest for its nutrients. While this successfully ensured the survival of various meal-crops to continue their way or life, the Elusive Pumpkin gained much more from this bewitching deal. One was a trouble making sentience the second was a more developed method of reproduction; Balistic Seeding. Through this method, Pumpkinns would travel in hordes or by themselves finding suitable organic hosts. Once they have achieved this they approach the target in a run and detonate their nutrient filled Gourds, embedding seeds and explosive force onto their target whilst also destroying themselves. This suicide bombing tactic , while dangerous is extremely effective at sowing the seeds of terror to their victims. The resulting fear forces them to run- propagating their seed even more. Those seeded will soon evolve into pumpkin hood and must at once seek out more victims to Seed. A pumpkinn that retains their sanity gets to keep their head. It's usually noted that those that do tend to have no brains to begin with like the Scholomance Mage who's heads are hollow for inexplicable reasons. A sense of humor also allows one to fight the pumpkin urge to detonate to a crowd of people.
>>
So in short for that entire story about Summoners, is that Bloody Wizards will ruin it for everyone if you don't keep an eye on them.

Simply acquire an elementally aligned item (Crystals and shards will do, they sell them in the Scholomance) or monster parts (check the hunter next to the left shark).

Then either combine in the large pot in the Scholomance for a magic weapon with a chance of misfiring or talk to the Armswright that made Isaac's new rifle; he can probably fix things together slightly easier.

Ah an interesting question. I'll be glad to field it.
To understand the position of scholars hailing from differing backgrounds it is good to understand their current position AS a scholar.

1. They are sworn at capacity to possess a neutral mentality, a clear conscience such that they may pursue their [Thesis,] something of a personal higher calling and in official terms a field of study that they may spend a majority of their life on. Runner's field is such, as is Questi's and Myself. If Latvian ever decided to study anything it would be the Zodiacs. But alas she intends to be an active participant in the historical re-creation of Summoners.

2. We are sworn an oath of poverty. Well some bags of zenny are fine here and there, and Questi is definitely making due with selling information so she can pay off her outstanding fines for sneaking in extra lessons from the Deep Library. But every institution recognizes that no Scholar can ever really own something under their name. Contracted Persons [slaves], Property [Airships and Towns], Kingdoms or Guilds. This is to ensure that the 1st Law isn't broken. Since these preconditions already fit a Guide, it isn't as jarring a shift. For Mages they've been living an essentially sedentary life hidden away from common society to avoid being purged or following a destructive path at life. So this also is not a jarring shift. Free Mages like Latvian, or Maeve on the other hand might since they classify as " tutored " The workaround to this rule is of course to have others own something in your stead, or perhaps transfer rights to the Scholomance who will happily enjoy what assistants, property, heavy equipment you may have acquired in your quests. But by no means will anything of that scale be inherited by your progeny save your [Floor Notes]

3. We are sworn an oath of dissolution. For our intellectual pursuits our lives are considered moot. We exist only as our body of work permits us. The hidden key here is
>>
>>42920659
that it it prevents Scholars to swear something as valuable as a soul to an outsider, or demon for the price of crushing one's self worth. Additionally, when caught up in Runner or Guild politics they act under the assumption that such a job is simply necessary for their pursuit and as such promises themselves to no nation, just like the Scholomance itself. Of course if we have followed the 1st and 2nd oaths then it is quite easy to focus only on what we have sworn our lives towards. Being a Scholar is ultimately an altruistic practice and that is simply why our knowledge is so valued. There is no consequence for example, for getting Runner or Questi killed but then I dont suppose there will be anyone left in this spiral that knows more than they on the subjects they study.

We live and breathe on the backs of others and so we shall live and breathe our pursuit of knowledge. A guide coming into this practice would be shorn from her hand with the Order, as her acts should be seen only as pragmatic, additionally their study of the Books would serve to enlighten their moral compass if not shatter it at its foundation. A mage-scholar on the other hand integrates rather well with the Order if their pursuit of Leyline magic is sincere and are rather confused when their magic /saves/ lives.

There was something I was just curious about.

The Runner's Guild has classes, with equipment provided it seems, but I wondered when those classes were added. Or rather, who was the first, let's say Knight for example from the runners guild specification.

I mean men with weapons hitting people was probably one of the first professions that existed so the idea of Knights probably goes back to even before that whole mess in Avalon happened, but when might the first "Knights" have started running the stairs?

Or how about the not quite normal but basic classes, like the Hunter or Militia. Rogues and Knights certainly, Mages and Guides easily, but who decided to stick some blades on the end of a chain, or stick some rudimentry magic gubbins down a metal tube to see what happened?
>>
>>42921406
The runner's guild is host to many classes, actually. Their only concern is to support [All] Runners by acting as a supply liaison and talent foundry. The first runners originated from Avalon, and it wasn't just Mages but also Druids, Jaegers , and Swordsmen much like any nation at the time. However because of the timeless quality of the Corridors its possible that all worlds were pulled in to meet at the "same time" from this came an amalgamation of cultures both conservative and progressive, some more accepting of their situation than others. It was here that the Runner's Guild was established, to act as a fixed point betwixt all these nations. Knights were an Avalonian invention but was looked onto by the Order as a necessary cog . Hunters were wyldsmen that soon found their place in the Inquisition and Red Street both for their insight on monsters, and there existed more than 3 kinds. However the reason you're seeing the 6 basic runners more often than the others is simply a condition of locality. Runners that ascend in the Meridian Spiral are prone to seeing the front runners of each World who were taught by the 2nd generation of Runners. Towards the center exist the more challenging floors populated by inhuman Runners, and prolific monstrous races. And further out are the Fringe worlds that have by necessity survived alongside monstrous races and other mega fauna, Like Astral Giants or Dragons...

I imagine the kind of Librarians that keep the really dangerous and forbidden books are the sort that are probably some of the most powerful mages the Scholomance has to offer.

I mean if i had a collection like that which i couldn't just destroy nor could I half arse it after every other time magic users did a really bad thing, i would want to put something really scary to guard my forbidden books

Between you and Me, Questi got tangled up with them once. I don't know the details but supposedly her nightly trips to the Library were discovered. In a cat and mauss game that continued for more than 25 days she managed to elude them until finally she cracked from their one ace in the hole and set up an usual scheme that targeted Runner. As it turns out it was a dummy plot to draw her out and take the bait she did. To speak anymore of what tools they employed would get me in a lot of trouble as well.

As Jackie said at >>42924025

You need to pick a base class and survive (read play through) at least one Floor to be bale to davnace.

But keep in mind that you will also keep your original skills before advancement and you won't be able to switch just them immediately to the new ones and it is best if you are abel to use both your basic class skills and advanced class skills together great effect so plan ahead before you choose.

But when did the Volgon Technocracy get involved.

I mean you had stuff like bows and crossbows and the like for the longest time and then suddenly the Volgons introduced Guns and now you can't find those other things anywhere, guns are just better in almost every circumstance.

And then they bring in all kinds of new and exciting ways to kill people dead with the handy application of magic crystals, some interesting new ideas in ways to use old kinds of magic, and it almost feels like someone showing up to a knife fight with a squad of gunmen.

The Volgon Ascension was a very special kind of horrifying event in which an interception fleet designed to fight "aliens" crashed through a Rift only to make contact with other runners on less than friendly terms believing that the encroaching malebolgia found its source in the crystal corridors. The resulting destruction of their homeworld behind their backs did little to assuage their anger . The first war of the Volgon Fleet raged across dozens of floors with a population of armed invaders that wanted payback for the Malebolgia, it wasn't until the millitary cabinet had been overridden by the intellectuals and the tactical officers in their middle ranks did they begin to show signs of reason. To this day, their mission to destroy the Malebolgia continues, however it has switched to a more relatable mission of progress and conquest. The hard edges of their policy had also begun to round off when it was discovered that escape vessels had outpaced the malebolgia and news of their vaporizing planetary systems were being fed through a drip of refugees, political emissaries, and expatriate colonists.

What is the effect of a Space elemental Pulse?

Related, can a wand/staff with an element other than Plant still cast a standard Pulse? For example a Spirit wand, a Spirit Pulse is a Regenerate stack, but could the user of that wand still cast a healing pulse for their full Magic rating?
>>
What are the Reapers of Mal? Why call them Angels?
>>
>>42930270
Reapers have always been Reapers. They appear ever so prominently when the superliminal vacuum of the Mal approaches magnitude 7. When this occurs, a [celestial] creature known as a reaper appears to essentially do what it has been sent out to do. To collect. The only difference here is that because of a circumstance of planar locality, it happens to appear before those who have yet to expire. Whether it knows this or is compelled to act in this way despite knowing this is indeterminate but its actions afterwards are certain; it will do its utmost to quickly and efficiently collect wayward souls to be taken back to the Lifestream. Those who have been reaped are instantly shorn of life, their corporeal forms reduced to ash and if lore on them could be believed, will likely reincarnate in later floors.
Reapers possess a deathtouch, a rare and unstoppable force that superliminally /kills/ its targets. Immortal or undead creatures are not immune to this, and inanimate objects that possess mechanical activity are indifferently destroyed by the strength of its scythe anyway.
The beings likely encountered in Lanternreap were likely a lost reaper that had long lost dominion over its current world and lived on borrowed time in the floors. A Floor Reaper on the other hand is a steward of Spiral's Aetherstream and possesses a greater spiritual body. It is not advised to fight these unless you are given literally little to no choice as victory would have be decided in as little time as a handful of actions.

So, Jenny, I had an idea that could interest you.

So, your spear is good, but you're one of our main damage dealers, you could use something better. But we don't have much Slayer specific weapons that would allow you to retain the range of the spear.

So here's my idea : By fusing a Longsword (available in the order shop) and a Hunter Chain, as long as the Longsword is the dominant weapon in the fusion, you could probably get a weapon with Range 2, that stays one-handed. So yeah, if you have the zenny to do it, and find a hunter who wants to give you his first chain, I suggest you to try it, the result might be really good.

What the hell is this?

Is there a FAQ? I always see those threads and think that they're quest threads or something.
>>
>>42937962

You mean, using H&P and Suspension as a single action, like pullong an enemy towards you, which leave him suspended ? Both skills are active, which mean you'll have to spend an action for each. So technically, yeah, you could do that, but it will take your whole turn.

>>42938597

Floors is pretty much a cooperative board game. You select a class, skills, and deploy on a map, where you will have to cooperate with the other players to survive the level. This a a general thread, you is mostly used to talk about the game, ask questions to the GM, and handle book keeping while the map is being drawn. We don't really have a Q&A per se, but all the threads are archived on suptg, and the rules and classes are available in this thread. If you're interested, the players contributed to write a beginner's guide.

Hope I managed to help you guys.
>>
>>42937962
You could hook and pull a target and then suspend them, costing two actions. I'm not sure what situation you'd use that in exactly, though. Really a better combination is Rig and Suspension, because you can use that to set up really devastating trap tiles. It does cost a chain, but chains are available at the Llama shop, which is the single most frequently available shop(it shows up after every floor) and they only cost 30z each. That said, Suspension and Hook and Pull are both excellent skills on their own, so they don't necessarily need to synergize to be good choices. Although, if you had all three, Hooking and Pulling a target onto a Suspension Rigged tile is excellent.
>>
>>42937176
also 3 on the side of the sheet off the edge that has ghouls, rogues, militia, and Alquemists next to it.
>>
>>42937817
I'd actually advise combining your chain and spear.

Yes, 3 range spin slash is incredibly dangerous. If it was 4 range then I'd be entirely against the combination.

But additive combination of spear+hunting chain would probably give you 3 range, and that's the maximum safe distance you can get given the range of your jump, especially when you you get acronaut, and thus can safely jump to places that aren't with an enemy in the space.

Your jump range is 3. That means that when you're on the front lines, you can easily get ahead of almost everyone else, and then 'make a hole' so large that the enemy forces can't possibly fill the gap in time. Further, your armor and aether-numbness mean that unless we drastically miscalculate, you can survive almost any counter attack levied at you in time for the navigators and guides to get back to you.

After that point, you'll be a priority target and have to reign it back in, because a second such maneuver will likely get you destroyed, the enemy turning their full attention on someone easily capable of annihilating ooooh... call it a dozen or so? medium sized enemies in a single turn.

Your maximum safe kill zone is 3. With a chain weapon you could even argue that you could control the range of your spin slash, in a way you couldn't argue with a fixed distance weapon like a spear.
>>

Jenny isn't Aethernumb.

>>42941425
There are two reasons to go with the whipsword upgrade instead of a slinky spear upgrade. The first is that the longsword is one handed and I can use shields again, the second is that the longsword starts at a higher base damage.

It not only means I can get +3 to my defense from my stored Knight Shield but +1 to damage as well.
>>
>>42943788
Okay, that makes sense. Given those circumstances yeah, you'd be better served doing such, makes you into a nice tank. Tankier than a Knight, but more DPS than a WeissKrieger

Question bump.

Enough about Volgons, tell me about the Red Street. Are they a 'business' organization sponsored by Qr'loon, or did they actually have a place in Qr'loon, before this whole me started.
>>
>>42971474
It was famously known in a proverb that the massive yes disparate network of kingdoms in Qr'loon had 3 emperors, its Warlords, its People, and its Coin.
The Red Street under The Red Lady is a Trade and Information Liaison between those in the Inner Spiral, the Runner's Guild and traders of the Outer wall. More importantly, she overseas the happenings between the 12 former kingdoms that comprised the Qr'loon Zodiac chain [not to be confused with ours] and like any dutiful emissary gives them a leg up in the information and trade war. However beyond the veil of mercantilism is ultimately a syndicate that aims to stir the pot this way and that to swing the "free" guilds , especially those aiming for the top against their opponents. If guilds come to her for work the usual result ends up being fed as slaves to their Ogre Band upon failure if not paid handsomely for their efforts. Alternatively those who prove lucrative or /honorable/ to their way or find their way in the Red Lady's inner circle are given a slew of services including but not limited to, " Runner Extraction [kidnapping/rescue], Runner Exchange [slave trade], Quigon initiations and airship passages through the outer-wall. However for your own sake to ask favors where there was no compensation even in her inner circle could lead to a chain of tasks and jobs that will see you at the bottom of her spiral.
>>
>>42972061
>airship passages through the outer-wall

or 'through' as in 'beyond' the outer wall? Because I thought that was the limit of creation?

>>
>>42972269
Okay, just making sure.

Can we also get more information on the exact purpose and services of the clinic? It seems medical, grafting, and hunting supplies?

Does the House of M have services inside of the Crystal Cooridor? And if so, what sort?
>>
>>
>>42972305
As the House of M is something that floats about on stringent, unverifiable reports. There seems to be nothing written about them. This one is all on you.
>>
>>42972305
The Shiraiya Clinic is rather ambigious in their goals. On the one hand they are definitely for humanity to the letter, on the other hand that definition seems to outpace even our conventional wisdom of what human even is. As their ultimate goal is the betterment of the Human Race it is suspected that such rigorous experiments that adhere to the moralities of Ignyallian Starfaring Law are the only observable components that these techno-zealots possess. It is known however that at the head of every monster culling, Shiraiya clinic has been quick to send Hunters and advisors to the fore of these blood-hunts in order to stem the propagation of non-human lifestyles and creatures.

It should also be known that some Volgon scientists have also signed on to this emergent institution in order to deconstruct and reconstruct such biological augments that have been prominently used in their conquests, the scientist you met on the Kismet being no exception. It could be believed that in time, our continued relationship with them will soon blur the line between man and the monstrous races deconstructing them to their base moralities, and choosing the human path even if monsters are forced to live under it. Note however that despite all this they exist as yet another neutral institution that simply treats the infirmed and experiments on the Wyrd.

>>
>>42974336

However if the Scholomance is indeed threatened we can't sit idly by either even if it means calling on the town to help us. Can the Order [Draw Memory] from items other than weapons?
>>
>>42979806

Actually I was curious about that myself.

Does it work for stuff like guns, or is it something about swords and such that are 'special'?
>>
>>42979806
Normally weapons owned by or used extensively by its owner tend to develop its own memory , or soul. Some arms users literally possess or die with the remaining pieces of themselves mainly because an alternative to getting consumed by the mal does not present itself to them. Whatever the reason maybe, any piece of equipment or relic that is named or uniquely belonging to something at some point will indeed have a memory to draw. Not all memories grant abilities, since said ability may not even be compatible to the witness but every memory is a tale, but it's exhausting for the sword-singer to read through all of them.

An excerpt from Runner's Notes:
" Runners beleaguered and embattled for what seems like hours or days on end will find their only respite in town floors or the hard ground of the crystal corridors. However, as the corridors support no life, and its air is considered stale, the proper vapors in the aer do not hold the proper restorative power in them as a normal Floor would.

Sleeping allows one's body to adjust to beneficial skills learned from that day. This is also normal within the crystal corridors but in Towns the rate is even faster. For magic users this is a must as some Runes can only be learned after a proper rest period. Alternatively they may also brush up on some basic skills missed when they had served as their base class. A proper rest period of 6 turns is needed to count as a full rest in this regard.

Other benefits to sleep include: Restored Health, Poison recovery/ mitigation, Illness recovery/ mitigation, Exhaustion recovery/ mitigation. Shortened training / action times for physical classes.

Conversely, missing sleep may lead to contraction long-action times in towns, missed actions outside of battle brought about by exhaustion, and vulnerability to other mental conditions like hallucinations, madness and fear.

It should also be noted that "technical" classes like the militia ,rogue, and hunter use their allotted sleep times to also perform weapons and gear maintenance allowing them to fix all but a destroyed weapon. while the Alquemist can perform up to 4 actions' worth of lab processes....

- notes pending more field data

>>42983605
Okay... so question?

Does that mean there are actually 18 turns in the day?

1-6 (Dawn to Twilight)
7-12 (Twilight to full night)
-6 uncounted turns- The curfew period in the town.

So unless we specifically state that we're skipping our sleep period, for example, 'to do training' or 'lab work' or 'gear maintenance', or I guess the party leader states we're breaking curfew? Then we always get our sleep?

Cause it's gonna suck if we're getting deficits we weren't warned about.
>>
>>42983855
A great number of us outright ignored curfew last night. The enforced curfew came into effect for those who were causing a ruckus down at Cracky's.
>>
>>42984789
YEAH! What a bunch of assholes....*licks dirty deep weasel blood from his face and hands*
>>
>>42984789
I'm not so sure?

I think curfew began at the last turn. I think SOME people were just put under house arrest early?

But only 6 turns of activity or we get screwed over on actions? Really? That means we actually only freaking bought 18 turns, not 36.
>>
>>42984886
I agree that the amount of turns we bought is far fewer then what was initially promised with a curfew in effect. However given we have solved the murder mystery that caused curfew in the first place we probably only really 'lost' that first night of actions.
>>
>>42985055
well I more meant that for us to play 'well' we have to sacrifice half our actions each day.
>>
>>42985099
I believe we learned that deep sleep needed for a full nights sleep is 4 turns of rest. It is skill acquisition that needs 6 turns. Also one nights missed sleep might not be enough to proc the exhaustion status effect. Yes it is still a hefty hit to our bought turns but it isn't as bad as a fully half our daily turns gone away.
>>
>>42985347
oh okay then. That's not SO bad... still pretty dick though...
>>
>>42985431
by which I mean that it'd have been nice to know -ahead- of time when we were purchasing days.

In a normal day there are 12 turns. 6 of daylight, 6 of night. On the cusp between the 12th and 13th turn however is an unprocessed event recorded only intrepid smiths and incident-prone night patrols.

The midnight hour exists as its own time within time. It is normally uncounted but when Runners are up at this hour their bodies begin to treat it as the emergency period of the mal approaching and thus undergo an accelerated march of sorts. This phenomena is unique in places where the Terminus Crystal is active.

Turns suspended at 12. 12.1 12.2 12.3 12.4 etc, but must all be performed in a single sitting [session] Runners who performed the midnight hour one day cannot do so again until they have rested for a minimum of 6 turns or so. In luxendarc in particular, the event is wholly undocumented but not unfamiliar to mischievous students like Questi who used the period to sneak in extra night readings in the library.

Conversely, those who found sleep at Turns 8-11, and slept through the processed [phases] Midnight Hour may add that amount of time to their sleep counter. Those who remained awake before, during and after the Midnight Hour will suffer exhaustion and must pay the ferryman's toll of 6 turns of sleep to recover from it

The Midnight Hour shouldn't actually exist, it is literally extra turns. You have 12 turns to a day + change. That should only be used for emergency periods. Making me process 60 turns for a single floor approaches stupid but I'm giving you an inlet so don't abuse it.
>>
>>42983605
>Other benefits to sleep include: Shortened training
How short are we talking? Assuming a player got 6 turns of sleep on day 1, how long would training on day 2 be?

I have a question for Questi then. Just how did she manage to sneak into the Library? Since I'm guessing there are guards and such. She is a scholar, so that means no special skills in stealth and enforced =Quiet= means she can't use spells to aid her.

Yes, but I am assuming our plan of action is, we grab it and skip town immediately, you still had to actually go back to where you took it from. If at least one of us gets out with the book then we are in the money.

It'll get them steamed up I am sure but quite frankly any day where I can thumb my nose at a powerful bunch of wizards and get away with it is a good day.

Very welllllllll
It looks like you already found the bypass so that's 1 half of my explanation done. However, did you know that every decade or so all the books in the grand library eventually go down in the lower floor ? That's right !
The deep library is comprised of not only old volumes of books but also old floors of the Grand Library. This means that the the lower layers of the school share a similar design to that of the lower level. And the libraries below share similar dimensions as those above it. Now keep that in mind when I explain this next bit.

In the library people are freely admitted, however before they could leave they are always checked for books. The day shift keeps a constant eye on bodies around the library , if one was unseen or heard from for well over 2 turns custodians will be released to search for the individual discreetly disguised as other students.
At night, there are considerably less faculty on the ground nosing over everyone's business, and the checks all but cease but before midnight people who signed in are expected to also vacate. If there are names or bodies unaccounted for, custodians would efficiently sweep the place and capture any spoony adventurer hoping to get some extra study times on.

Cause at night, they release the Paper Reaper. Don't give me that look !
Paper reapers are figments of Reapers, They act like Reapers, are spooky like Reapers but are made of paper instead of souls. So what do they reap ? Missing books ! That's right, the moment something goes missing from the Grand or Deep libraries, our silent reaper will stalk the halls, in the hunt for the missing book and will employ any and all force necessary to get it back. Now, they maybe paper but that doesn't make them any less a reaper. This means fighting them will lead to more danger than it's worth and the worst part is that they don't necessarily expire either. Their weakness ? The library itself.
>>
>>42995403
As I said the grounds below and above the library are essentially part of one big library but despite all that, a paper Reaper can't hope to set one dog eared step outside of it lest it broke its own rules. So how did I go about escaping this horrible paper-cut laden maze ?

Well, you see-
I WAS THAT CUSTODIAN AND I CHECEKD OUT MY OWN BOOKS ! KYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !

Now do you see ? That same trick can't work twice. But then again you don't have to have to keep up the act of everything going well for an extended amount of days either. If you're going to loot and scoot, it's probably possible to leave the library in shambles with a reaper running around inside of it crying its head off over some missing books but if you want to slip something under the nose of Human error then perhaps there's a way to get a book out without it being checked at the gate...
>>
>>42995403
>>42995600

So, if we get some people to go in through the front door, and we have another group ready in the side passage we discovered, all we need to do is find where the passage leads to in the library, and where the book is, and then plan everything in between

So, Group A, lets call em "Front-door Team" goes into the library and finds the book, and then hands off to someone from Group B, "Back-door Team" nearby, Group B leaves through the passage we found and Group A leaves through the front door. Group B never entered the library, and so they don't get searched, and Group A hasn't taken anything out of the library, and so they won't find anything if they get searched.

And we should do this around the afternoon, before the shifts changed, late enough so that the amount of custodians wandering around is reduced, but early enough so we don't have to encounter any magical library reapers.

At least that is how I would do it.
>>
>>42995614

Although... Say Latvian, if we got you the book, how long would you need it until you got the results you wanted, a day?

Ah good thinking. And to your credit , its not everyday people decide to sneak something past the Scholomance. As a token of my sympathies I've went and eyed the current library earlier in the day. The image lacked people simply because they wouldn't sit still.

If you can imagine it, the library under that one looks somewhat similar. I know what you're thinking- where's the stairs to the downstairs ? And to be quite honest I don't know. If its anything like my 2nd year they may have concocted another illusory passage and the only way to find it is to find the inconsistencies between top and bottom.
>>
>>42995403
"So what if we bring paper and ink and make a copy of the text we want?"
>>
>>42995771

It's a magic book Velen, somehow I think a copy wouldn't work.
>>
>>42995707
>>42995771
>>42995830
Actually, since I only want for the information inside of it a copy is feasible.

If you want me to list down only the bare essentials for my research I would need it for [ 6 turns ] however if I managed to keep it, I would be able to make full use of its contents. Of course,I imagined you didn't wish to alarm the scholomance of our activities and I certainly won't hold it against you if you wished to risk a second trip to /return/ the thing unnoticed.
>>
>>42995830
"I'm pretty sure Latvian wrote the book Jackie is using, so if producing a magic book is necessary we have someone to ask about that."
>>
>>42995883

Out of interest, what would the 'bare essentials' be, this is quite the undertaking we are planning after all, I would like all the pros and cons on the table before we make a decision.
>>
>>42996041
The Messier codes of 3 Monster signs. With the rest of the 12 being something that can be pursued on later floors.

If I was to keep the book, I could in essence transcribe 2-3 more on the next town. This count doesn't include the possibility of also capturing and contracting with any others we encounted on our way. I have a certain dog whistle to thank for that idea.

Also as I've been reading of the Summoner Wars, it occured to me that special garments were needed to facilitate the act of [Summoning]. To that end, I've chosen an outfit that would be suitable for the Charismatic Authors and the unrelenting Editors. Asking for such a design from the weavers would be something they could probably agree to making. Think of it as a Pumpkin Faery festivity ~
>>
>>42996198
It occurs to me we can ask theWeaver shop for masks in preperation pf that same festival, which could be good for anyone doing any sneaking.
>>
>>42996198

I will admit, that is a nice hat. Okay so, I want to put some plans on the table. For approval from our party leaders of course, I am only a Sergeant after all.

Both operations start with the two group plan (>>42995614), since that seems to me the best way to go about it, what happens afterwards is where things get tricky

If we skip town and take the book with us on day 2, as I was originally thinking of suggesting I realize in hindsight that plan has one huge flaw. If nick it from the library on day 2, and the Reaper starts a wailing and gnashing of papery teeth about it, and the Scholomance digs around and finds a Runner group left a day earlier then they put down time for, and the day when the book went missing as well, they're gonna smell a rat.

So I have two suggestions

1) Operation Loot and Scoot (Thanks Questi)

>We use Day 2 to case the place, find where the passage leads to, find where the staircase to the deep library is, get a feel for the guard patterns and figure out when people come off and on shifts and such, get a feel for the best time to go through with this
>Day 3, we put the plan through, we hit the library, jack the book, and leave at night when we are expected to do so. By the time the alarm sounds, we will have left at the ordinary time, in the ordinary manner and nothing will seem out of the ordinary.

We get a hand on the book, and we are less likely to have the Scholomance figure out who is responsible for this. We get more summoning magic stuff and the knowledge that the Scholomance will be put us on the shit list if this /ever/ gets found out. Short term the risk is reduced, long term we have to tread carefully, but our potential rewards are greater.

(1/2)
>>
>>42996198
That is the summoner class? Eh... I was secretly hoping that is the other class Guides can get just backwards with Conjurers/White Mages in FF: Realm Remborn, just with fairy familiars added.

Oh well I will still try to have Poka befriend with a fairy.
>>
>>42996541

2) Operation Plant and Scamp

>We steal the book on Day 2, and hand it off to Latvian for her to take whatever she needs from the book for us.
>Then on Day 3, we either slip it back into the Library through that back passage, if they didn't find it, leave it somewhere inconspicuous in town, although leave it long enough so that they can't just use Navigators to trace back to who took it in the first place.
>Or, and this is just because I am a complete and utter bastard, we plant it on some poor sap to take the blame. Like I don't know, one of those Gold-joy fellows.

A little more dangerous in the short term as they will defiantly be raising the alarm in town, but in the long term, we can hopefully avoid the Scholomance getting really /antsy/ about us stealing from them. But we won't get as much Summoner stuff from this as a result, but a really angry band of wizards is I think something that we should avoid.

3) Operation Write and Take Flight

>If for whatever reason, our passage gets discovered, as a backup plan we can copy the contents that we need onto paper in the library, without actually taking the book out.
>Something like this is of course, bloody dangerous, hanging around in a forbidden library taking notes from a forbidden books, but if our passage gets discovered and blocked, then the only way we are taking out the book is through the front door, and that is not an option.
>However, I don't imagine the custodians will bother too much about checking every individual page in say, a students note book, for any illicitly copied pages from dangerous tomes.
>No Reapers get summoned, and we can spend the extra day in town not doing really dangerous heists from wizards.

I don't much like this plan personally, when we could just take out the book itself, but, it's always a good idea to have some backup plans if things go wrong. We won't get the full monty as in Plan 2, but we can avoid, "complications".
>>
>>42996745
Alternate plan.

Operation: Open Book Test

>Go to the Library, say Deep Weasels and Dark Weasels and a massive summoning circle was discovered in town. Ask for books on summoning to help hunt down the culprit. check books to see if they give us what we require; if so, take notes.

It's a library, notes must be allowed so long as we don't steal the books.
>>
>>42996850

They'll have books on summoning I am sure but I really doubt it will be the one we are actually looking for, especially since that one is in the forbidden section.
>>
>>42996680
you should. "Poka Fairy Friend" sounds fun.
>>
>>42996880
Extra information. We know which book Latvian needs, but we're more than one person and this is a library full of things. We should take the chance to really have a good look at as much as possible while we're there!
>>
Well. It isn't like I have anything else planned. Would I be able to copy the entire book in 12-24 turns?
>>
>>42997241
That book has got quite a few pages.

If it took me 6 turns to get just three things I imagine it would take you ... oh I see....

You're asking if more mages would make it more faster.... that could certainly be the case. I imagine 4 is the max. Ones can only look at one book simultaneously.
>>
>>42991964
Okay I see, so basically we have 'turns and change' with the change being unusable bar the once unless we have spent 6 actual turns sleeping.

That seems more than reasonable.
>>
>>42996745
Another option is to find a way to get the gold joys the book and then point the schola at them. Just putting it out there as an option.
>>
>>42996880
>>42996850
Favorite plan right here.

Combined with the fact that the book we're looking for isn't forbidden exactly, just OLD AS FUCK (we're not asking for the black bible after all). I think there won't be much issue with us just asking to transcribe it as best we can.
>>
>>42997478
Exactly. If we can recruit just 2 more mages to help us we could possibly copy the entire book before we have to leave town.
>>
>>42997478
>>42997963

So grab the book, copy it by having 4 mages just, bunk up in the inn for the remainder of the turns we have? Then perhaps give our Qr'loon friend the book and ask her to make sure it gets back to the library without any connections to us? Perhaps with a nice sum of zenny to pay for any risks/trust her not to sell it to Red Street?
>>
>>42930822
>Thinks on this
I don't know why it's so mysterious that they're appearing before anybody actually is dying yet. Their job is to pick up souls right? Well when the Mal arrives, those souls are eaten too aren't they? If they don't arrive and start culling the still living but 'probably going to be annihilated in mere moments' souls ahead of schedual, then no souls to cull, to bring back to... what ever it is that Reapers bring souls too.
>>
>>42995755
Questi? I have a question about our albeit for our intested in the book?

>We've encountered a bunch of outsiders
>We've been dealing with obvious signs of summoning in at least two occasions now, and have reason to believe the person we're following (the blood mage) is interested in it as well
>We kinda saved a bunch of scholar and mage souls from the Board of Education before killing it... so that buys us browny points right?

With what you know about the Librarians? Is this reasonable to assume they'll give us the time necessary to copy out significant portions of the book we're looking for?
>>
>>42998420
to be clear, the points we outlined are why we're interested in the book in question.
>>
>>42998420

Florian: It reeks of intent.
Questi: Won't that just make them heighten security on the books some more ?
Runner: Maybe that first one will get us a pat on the head. I liked those but now not so much...

Questi: Maybe it's best not to draw attention to it.
>>
>>42998859
Shit.
>>
>>42998859

I'm a bit lost on what our plan is now.

And by a bit lost I mean I am so far out at sea with what our plan might be right now that it could just be the furthest man made object from the spiral.

Are we telling them about the Deep Weasel and just asking for the book now?
>>
>>42998953
No.

I think our best option at this point is during the day explore the library as best we can, blame on getting lost when we find the book or something, but don't take it.

Give a rogue work clothes and a stinger. That's 5 movement, 15 movement in a turn.

We send one of them in by the secret passage, they literally go in, wait for an opening from the reapers who won't pay attention to them as long as they don't take a book, grab the damn book, and run back to the passage. We have somebody in the passage waiting for them, possibly a hunter to hook and pull them in at the last moment, and then shut the thing behind them so that nobody can follow.

We copy the thing as fast as we can, then throw the thing back in by the secret passage when we leave. Or hire Ms. Tailor to get it back in without anybody knowing it was us.
>>
>>42999126
Correction, two rogues. Plus a hunter waiting at the passage entrance for them to return.
>>
>>42999126
>>42999156
So time to ask our two premier rogues?

Becky?
Rabbitspaw?

Are you two up for this?

Assuming we don't find a better way?
>>
>>42999126

Alright sounds fair to me. And makes sense.

Then we get 4 Mages to copy out as much of the book as we can, if we can get the whole book before we need to return it, fantastic.

I would err on the side of hiring the Tailor though, asking favours from Red Street feels like something we should try to avoid unless we have something /really/ good to offer in compensation.
>>
>>42999126
>>42999156
>>42999190
We'd need Khya to channel both our rogues as well, give them that extra level of necessary power.

Since Khya can't go into the place herself and her powers work, and also, she's frankly just too valuable to risk until we get a second navigator.
>>
>>42999244
Agreed on this front. The only valuable thing we could offer them is our own service in a job, or yet another copy of the book, and selling them that is probably a bad idea.
>>
>>42999126
>>42999156
>>42999190
>>42999253

Forgot to mention.

Total cost for this operation, 2 sets of work clothes, 2 stingers, and hopefully some sort of masks to hide the rogue's identities, is going to come around 1220 to 1500 I imagine, so our rich as midas guides will probably need to contribute some dosh.

So just had a thought. But it depends on if books are as easy to 'lose' in a library as they are in my old home town.

What if we picked up the encyclopedia astrii, and just, misshelved it? Put it into a shelf that is easy for us to get to and get back from near the entrance or the exit? How often do the Librarians Shelf Check? Are they likely to shelf check any one particular place on the night we're going or can we be fairly certain they do it like normal libraries, in which case they do it in their spare time and walk about, depending on people not actually taking books down from the shelves except to check them out and such? Or are there automated magical thingamajigs that make sure books, once shelved, are automatically returned to their normal place?

If this is the case, we could make our job a lot easier. During the day, sneak down, reshelf the book away from it's normal shelf where no one is likely to look for it, say, directly across from the secret passage, dash out in the night, grab it, dash back in. Done.

I has a question
>What mediums can be used to draw (working) Mage Circles aside from Chalk?
>Would an etching into metal work?
>>
>>42998859
>>43007000

Something else..
>Can we get a more elaborate description of the rules surrounding the "Quiet" effect?
>>
>>43007000
So this one probably isn't a surprise but...
>Other mediums
Blood. Likely other things with sufficient magical potency behind them would function, but they would probably mostly be harder to get your hands on. I mean, crushed Aethercyte might work, but you'd have to be carrying crushed Aethercyte.
>>
>>43008656
If that's the case, solutions would probably work too.

But I think they meant what it could be drawn ON. Like would a piece of paper work?
>>
>>43008656
>>43008714

Now that you two mention it, probably both. Chalk seems to be a fairly mundane material but I imagine salt to be a possibility too, for instance.
Paper seems reasonable, but is there anything special done with them, I wonder? And of course my question about metal etching, which can be done with salts, now that I think about it..

I'm really looking for a decent general list and/or a rule of thumb to go by

Hummm a quote from our basic Runic book.
Runes when wrote upon will draw aether from the object's surface as a ground and the local aer as the charge. Should either of these componenets be lacking in any definitive amounts of aether the connection is considerably weakened, even nullified. Alternatively if aethers course on an object lacking in such, the resulting journey might reduce the object to dust. Furthermore the element of the medium has to be nigh definitive lest a confused impotent mess of a spell occurs. To backtrack the reason why walls and floors are such good mediums simply relies on the fact that they have already made themselves part of the surrounding environment.

(Edition 6 states that an alchemists' engravings has with it microscopic tools that ensures objects lacking of any aether doesn't suffer as much damage but relies on the object to have an elemental alignment. )

So in short, etching on metal- or really any un-grounded object- faces the problem of lack of aether. Runes don't simply generate magic for existing, they generate magic because magic is already in the aer. Now if you want for something that can overcome an object's dull qualities I do know of a 100% workable solution if you don't mind watching something turn to dust.

And that's Faery Ink. Faery ink packs enough power to be etched on any surface that doesn't run with the slight catch of possibly burning that object from the amount of aether turbulence that runs through it. Of course if you're going to spend 800 zenny on such an object you may as well be using it to power up your favorite book > >...

The forbidden sections are normally managed by reaper now. The only person who can override that is the Librarian. So... a book gone missing is like a toe being placed somewhere else it sticks out like a ....s-s-sore thumb ?

KYAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA *kero*

>Now if you want for something that can overcome an object's dull qualities I do know of a 100% workable solution if you don't mind watching something turn to dust.
So a one shot thing? Would it work in an area that's [Quiet]? I already can tell that normally a rune wouldn't function in such an environment, given the requirements you listed, and I also guess that [Quiet] wouldn't effect a channel right? Because [Quiet] is probably doing something like grounding or binding up or just plain old using all the local Aether in the environment, giving casters nothing to draw upon for their spells right? A Channel circumvents that as long as the channeling guide is outside the [Quiet] and is in a place with Aether present?

Gotcha, so they would pick up the book and put it back where it belongs immediately the moment they activated.

Wait, does that mean the forbidden sections are ALWAYS monitored by reaper? Day and Night? Impossible to even enter without triggering them?

Hmm.. something to think about. Thanks!

Any chance this could be answered?

>Librarian
Assigned position power (As in they can will it to happen like a mage casting a spell just because of their position)? Or is it something they carry? Or some object in their offices or codes they possess that let them do such? Or something else?

Sorry sorry! Another question on top of that..

>All this talk about the book being in a specific location and potentially being misplaced leads to a very important question: How is the Library organized and is there an index or some other system we can access to locate the book we're looking for so we don't have to be there longer than necessary?
>>
>>43012125
A subliminal spell is essentially being hmmm Played across the Library. The spell not only keeps down sound but bids the Aethers to essentially remain inactive, think of it as a constant counter spell being cast. Channeling works because it travels on a completely different frequency.

Well... it's by element of course ! Lux on the left with Darc on the right.
Lux Tera Hydra Aer Pyro Darc
Now, you're wondering how books can be sorted by element if they have nothing to do with elements ?

Florian: Well as the saying goes, everything has an element. It's simply elementary ~!
>>
>>43012357
That was a bad pun and you should feel bad.

What is the element of the Encyclopedia Astrii? Latvian? Do you know? You seemed to know where it would be located?
>>
Well then. That begs us to ask the question. What element will our book fall under?
>>
>>43012392
Well.. what's the element of anything related to space ?
>>
>>43012408
So we'll find it in either Lux or Darc, or in whatever section is devoted to both?

Does this mean there are library sections also devoted to composite elements?

Just by element? They don't put it in order of Authors or anything?

Hmm well if the order of elements work like the orders of author surnames do in regular libraries, then I am assuming that our book will be near the end of the Lux shelves, although I am assuming most of the Shelves will be like

>LUX
>Pure Lux > Lux/Tera > Lux/Hydra > Lux/Aer >Lux/Pyras > Lux/Darc.

Can you tell is a bit more Questi? This isn't exactly the dewey decimal system here, i'm a bit lost to how they are ordering this

They change it every generation. Besides I'm not the one gaining the books here so you can have fun with it >: >

If I am not roasted over the coals for this, I think I just might.

Do you think the good Lady Aya will let me borrow a tea-set and purchase some tea off of her, only if i'm going to be spending my day being sociable, then I am going to do it with tea and coffee
