PREVIOUSLY ON MAGICAL GIRL LIBERTY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Magical+Girl+Liberty

The five of you kept low to the floor as the boat trundled through the dark waters. It was you, Sumire, Rana, Kirby, and Yevginy that were sent to sabotage the Zeppelins closing in on your location. Out here in open water, a lot can happen. But thankfully, it was the middle of the night, and they certainly weren’t looking for any saboteurs if the lack of searchlights and their decloaked appearance was any indication. The Japanese must have been lagging behind due to the battle you got into where you put a hole in the Kaga and destroyed one of the Zep gunships, not to mention all those planes you blew up.

But that was then. This is now. You were dressed in Anneliese’ old uniform, modified slightly to have a bit more of a cleaner appearance. You could’ve asked for some space in the chest though. “Alright,” says Yevginy as he brings you below one of the Zeppelins. “This is as far as we go. What is the plan?”

You nod, turning to everyone. “We’re going to split up. Me and Sumire will disable one of the Zeps from the inside, Rana you’re going to disable the other one by sniping the engines. We’re going to do this at the same time though. Yevginy, you’ve got to be fast once the engines are broken because you’re going to be exposed out here, alright?”

“Da.” He nods, patting the outboard motor on the boat. “Boat is fast.”

“If we mistime this, one team is not going to make it out. Rana, the signal will be when the nacelles on our Zep stop working.” You look up to your Zeppelin, the one right above you. The propellers on the engine nacelles are spinning idly. “Once those props stop, that’s your cue.”

She nods. “Got it.”

“Me and Sumire will disable those nacelles by any means. We’ll steal some transportation out, you guys can leave on your own.”

“Alright.”

Sumire raises her hand. “Question.” You look over at her. “Why are you wearing the Nazi outfit? You don’t even speak German.”

“Because Rana has no experience with disguises, you’re Japanese, Yevginy obviously can’t fit, and Kirby…” You blink, then look over at Kirby. “Kirby. Is there a way you can um… fix my German deficiency?”

Kirby looks over at Sumire. “I do not know. Is there?” Sumire rolls her eyes, then waves him along. Huh? Is something amiss that you didn’t realize. Kirby looks back to you. “I can act as a universal translator for you.” He leaps up, then spins up into a ball which shrinks, and morphs into a very lovely silver earring. You clip it onto your ear. “Can you hear me?”

“Yes,” you say. In German! “Wait. Sumire. Why do I even need to learn to speak German!? I could just use Kirby to do… wait, have you been keeping this from me?”

Sumire rolls her eyes again, leaning back on the boat. “Just saying. Easy solutions are lazy.” She… is absolutely right. You sigh. Looks like you’re not getting out of your language lessons. Fine. Whatever, you’re going to have to deal with it. “How am I going to follow you up there though? I’m kind of uh…” She motions down to her sailor uniform she is wearing, obviously not Nazi dress. “… you know, cute.”

“I was going to say conspicuous but you have a point. Here’s what we’re going to do.”

> “We’ll find you a Soldier’s uniform. Mask won’t give you away to anyone who knows you.”

“We’ll find a regular kraut uniform for you. The gasmask they usually wear won’t give you away hopefully.” Sumire nods, agreeing with that. Good, finally the two of you are on the same page. You grab a rope and a hook from the boat and lob it upwards. You hear a clinking noise as it hooks onto something. Good, feels solid too. “Alright, Sumire. You first.”

She smirks, walking over with a swagger in her hips. “Ooooh, taking a peak up my skirt?”

You push her away. “On second thought, me first.” She huffs, folding her arms as you climb up the rope. “By the way I can see up your skirt.” You softly kick her in the face as you rope up. Pervert.

It’s a bit of a long climb, but nothing you can’t handle. Soon enough, you found yourself next to one of the large gondolas connected to the envelope. Rest of the infrastructure is usually contained within the envelope, but gondolas like this are usually for guns and other add ons. Modular, in a sense. You grab onto the cold metal outcroppings around it and start climbing your way around to what seems to be a hatch.

You stop when the hatch opens.

“Bye, Klaus!” A soldier dumps a huge load of ashes out into the open. Kirby is already translating his spoken German into perceived English. “I’ll tell your wife you died with honor!” He gives a Nazi salute, then dumps the urn out into the sea. Well, that was lucky. As he turns away, you grab onto the hatch and swing in, kicking him forward and knocking him out quietly.

You’re inside what appears to be an incinerator. You take a sniff. Smells horrible in here. Sumire follows after you, then looks down at the soldier you just knocked out. “… he’s a little big for me.”

“Come on, you’ll look cute. Hurry and put it on.”

You step out into a hallway, lit up by dim hanging lights. You dust down your Nazi uniform, then out of the incinerator comes Sumire. She was right, he was a bit big for her. Too big. She steps next to you, her pants puffed out, the boots reaching almost to her knees, her jacket and shirt hanging loose, and the sleeves reaching way over her hands. At least the mask and the helmet seem like they fit. Nazis have small heads after all. “I don’t think this is going to work,” she says, her voice muffled by the mask.

“It will,” you say.

She folds her arms, the ends of the sleeves flopping over her elbow. “Fine. How do we disable the engines then?”

“Simple, we go to the main generator, blow it up, jump out, boom.” You shrug. “I don’t see how this is complicated.” Though, you do not say that you honestly are aware of where the generator is. That’s improvisation for you. “First off, find it though.”

“Alright, lead the way.” The two of you start walking down the hall, and to your unfortunate luck, you’re immediately accosted by a pair of Stosstruppen guards. “… oh.”

They look down on the two of you. “Hey.” He points to Sumire, who stands perfectly straight and erect. “What happened to your uniform?”

“Erm.” Sumire looks over at you, then back at the guards. “It grew.”

“Grew.”

“Yes. Grew.”

“Okay. Well, see Steiner to get a new one. He’s going to be pissed though, these uniforms are expensive, yes?” The guards walk past you two, continuing on their way. You take a gentle breath of relief, then look over at Sumire, who is still standing stiff. You nudge her a bit, relaxing her.

“Okay. Maybe I made some miscalculations but…” You scratch your chin.

Sumire stops you, putting a hand on your shoulder. “Look. Neither of us knows where the generator actually is. How about we split up? We hear a rumble, that’s when we know to bail out, okay?”

“No, we’re not going to split up. If we split up, there’s a better chance that we’ll fail.”

Sumire slouches a bit. “But I wanted to see if I could get a uniform that fits.”

You sigh, then snap your fingers. “Kirby.” A bolt of magic zaps Sumire’s uniform, shrinking it down and letting now fit snugly onto Sumire’s body. “There. Happy?”

She turns around, leaning over and smiling smugly beneath her mask. “I don’t know, are you?”

“Stop it!” You slap her on the helmet, rattling her. “Let’s go!” You grab her wrist and drag her through the hallway.

You poke your head into what appears to be a very luxurious pub. A wooden counter where an officer cleans the shot glasses and beer mugs, wood tables where a few soldiers sit here and there and drink, and even a warm atmosphere topped up by a man playing the piano.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3diboDVIOkw

Sumire leans over, speaking in German. “That song is actually pretty catchy.” You nudge her, urging her to shut up as you try to look for another way through the bar.

“I am telling you, Heinz. I am not going into her room tonight. I am not.” A group of soldiers sit around a table, lots of empty mugs between them. Probably drunk the lot of them.

“Well I’m not going to do it,” says one of them. “Last time I did the Major made me sit in on one of her tea parties. Horrifying.” He points to one of the younger soldiers. “You, you, do it.”

“I did it before Joachim did!” he yells.

“Well where’s Joachim?” asks the previous.

“The Major incinerated him,” says one of the soldiers. Everyone around the table groans, then their eyes look over at you as you try to find a doorway out of the bar. “Hey, hey, you!” You look over, and then point to yourself as if confirming. “Yes, you! Would you be willing to send cookies and milk up to the Major’s quarters for us?”

Sumire is about to say something, but then you quickly elbow her in the gut to shut her up. “No thanks.” Last thing you need is to draw more attention to yourself. Your hair and eye color are different but you don’t know for sure if Knives herself will not recognize you. “We are just here to uh… visit as all.”

One of the soldiers raises his hand. “Now hang on. Why not? You’re a girl, she’s a girl! She likes girls!” The others agree, nodding. “Well, we like girls too, but she loves girls way more than we do. You could do it.” He stands up, motioning upstairs. “Her room is a couple of levels up. All you have to do is leave some cookies and milk by her door and that’s it!”

Sumire points to him. “Why can’t you do it?”

One of the soldiers leans over to one of his comrades. “Since when did we start recruiting women?”

“Must be one of those sniper girls from Russia,” he whispers.

“Look. We’re just trying to find the generator.” Ah heck. They look at you, skeptical. “… to uh, inspect it, nightly. We’re part of the ship engineering staff after all and we’re trying to make sure it does not explode. Because that’s what generators do when they’re not looked after.”

The bartender quirks his brow. “How does a ship engineer not know where the generator is?”

Sumire looks over, and then nudges you. “She’s drunk.” You slap Sumire on the head. Dang it, Sumire!

“Ah, I see what’s going on here!” The two of you freeze. “… you want a drinking contest! Fine! First one to bow out has to send up the goods to the Major’s quarters.”

Why did you have to choose this Zeppelin. “Alright. Fine.” They all cheer, calling for some beer to come around their way. You turn around and quickly whisper to your earring. “Kirby. Please tell me you have something for this.” Sumire quickly sits down next to all of the soldiers, yelling for beer.

Kirby says, “If I did, I would have told you.” Ugh! “There are limits to what I can do.”

“Alright, alright.” You sit down and watch as a large platter of beer is set down on the table by the bartender. Sumire rubs her hands together happily, pulling her mask. You quickly pull her mask down. “No. You are going to be my designated driver for tonight.” She grumbles, folding her arms and kicking her foot up onto the table. “Alright. Let’s get this over with.” You grab a mug and hold it up. The other soldiers grin, holding theirs up as well. “One. Two. Three.”

-

-

Surprisingly, you survived the drinking contest by sheer shyness of drinking. But unfortunately, because they all passed out and had to be escorted to their rooms, which left you and Sumire to deliver the milk and cookies by default. Next time, you’re just going to bash everyone’s faces in. “Hey, you won a drinking contest.” Sumire nudges you happily. “That wasn’t something I was expecting from the purest Sentinel of Freedom.”

“Quiet.” You carry a tray of milk and chocolate chip cookies down the metal hallway, until you arrive at a door guarded by heavily armed soldiers. “The Major’s nightly delivery.”

One of them nods, then opens the door. “Go on in.” Sumire nervously stands beside you, placing her hands on her hips.

“… but-“ No. Don’t argue. You sigh, stepping into the dark room. It is quite dark in here. You hear the sound of a shower nearby. Oh boy, Knives is in the shower. She’s in the shower! That means you don’t have to stay for very long! You gently feel around for a lightswitch, then find it right next to the door.

And immediately you stop yourself from screaming in fright at seeing her friends, Rapier, Court Sword, and Sabre, gathered around a table.

Sumire leans in. “What is it?” she whispers. The guards look in, then flinch and immediately resume their posts upon seeing what exactly happened to those three. You see, during the months you were recovering, Rapier, Court Sword, and Sabre were declared missing by the SSO during the power struggle the Magisch Korps had gotten itself into. Somehow, Knives had forced her way into first place despite being third in command. (First Colonel Engelhardt, then the Storm Ace, then Knives.)

Well, now you know what happened to them. They sat around a table, expressions of shock and fright on their faces, holding cups of tea in their hands. They glow blue, as if encased in something. Oh, you do not know what happened to them now but it does not appear very fun.

Suddenly, one of the doors in the bedroom opens, a blast of mist jetting out into the room. “Haaa!” Knives steps out, wrapping a towel around her wet naked body. “Oh, are those my milk and cookies?” She happily skips over and takes the tray from you, then sets it down on the table. “You are just in time, would you like to join me for tea?”

You look back. Sumire and the guards shake their heads.

“Um. No. I actually have to-“

She grabs your hand, grinning. “Come, sit, sit!” She brings a pillow for you to sit on.

“But-“

“Sit.” She forces you to sit down on a pillow. “Thank you!” She shuts the door on Sumire and the guards. Oh… nuts. She leans over, her chest and body sopping wet from her shower. “Give me a moment, I will get myself dressed in just a little bit, Frau…” She leans in, checking your shoulderstraps. “Leutnant!” She quickly steps into the bathroom and shuts the door.

You’re having a tea party with Knives and statues of her presumed dead compatriots.
>>
[3/3]

You quickly stand up and try the door. Locked!? From the outside!? You look around. Windows. No windows. Vents!? “Kirby!” You whisper. “Please help me!”

“I am trying to find a way out. Please stay calm.” Your heart races as you hear Knives sing as she gets dressed. You can’t handle this! You’re losing control of the situation!

You hold your breath. Think, think, think!

> Settle in for a tea party. It’s not like she recognizes you. Sumire knows what to do. You’ll wait for her to break the generator.

You exhale. Count to four. Exhale. Okay. Looks like you will have to settle in for the long haul. You sit down on the pillow, Indian style, and look around at the other girls. You just noticed right then and there that their eyes have actually been following you. Hopefully, that’s just a trick of the angles, like with the Mona Lisa or something. You look inside the tea cup, then pick it up and take a whiff.

Oh. It’s Darjeeling. You take another sniff. Doesn’t smell like any poison either.

“I’m ready!” The door slowly opens, and out steps Knives in a silky black nightgown, reaching barely down her thighs. She walks over and sits down across from you, adjusting her gown. That thing leaves very little to the imagination. Must be comfortable to sleep in though. “So, Leutnant, what brings you to my humble abode?” You point to the milk and cookies. “Oh. Those. Would you like one?” She takes one and shoves one into Rapier’s open mouth. She then gently grips the chin and starts chewing on it for her.

“No thank you,” you say.

“Oh? Not hungry?” She takes a sip of milk from the glass. “Perhaps some milk then?” You shake your head. “Come ooonnn… it makes you grow big and strong in many areas!” She jiggles her breasts to emphasize the point. You shake your head again. “Fine!”

“Um.” You point to the girls. “Are they…?”

“Dead?” Knives takes a bit out of a cookie. “Oh, goodness no. I could never bring myself to kill these three fine girls. They are my only friends! So I had them stupefied!”

“Stupefied?”

[1/3]
>>
[2/3]

“Yes!” She smiles, pulling Court Sword close. “You see. Colonel Engelhardt developed stupefaction in order to capture Magical Girls easily. It is basically a field of anti-magic that slows the body down extremely. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to reverse it.” She waves her hand in front of Court Sword’s face, grinning. “See?” She leans over at Sabre, grinning even more widely. “See this?” Sabre’s eyes slowly twitch towards Knives. “Your little twin sister is so cute and cuddly!” Knives pecks Court Sword’s lips, giggling.

The table suddenly blows over, blasting cookies, napkins, tea, and milk all over the room as Sabre, for but a brief second, breaks the stupefaction. However, only for a second. She is frozen in a pose that would imply she was going to choke the living heck out of Knives. Knives however does not seem to be fazed, and simply taps Sabre on the chest. She immediately resumes the pose she was in beforehand. “She does that sometimes,” she says as she pulls the table back and pulls up a new pot of tea.

“Um. Okay,” you say.

She leans on the table, looking more closely at you. “You know, you seem familiar somehow.” She squints at you. “Have I seen you before?”

“Um. No. I am new,” you say.

“Ah… where do you come from?” She continues staring at you, waiting for your answer patiently. Kirby has gone quiet. Great, he hasn’t found a way out. Sweat is already running down your neck and cheeks.

“Um. Munich.”

She grins. “I am from Munich too!” She takes your hands, giggling. Ah dang it. “Do you know Herr Janowicz?” You shake your head. “Oh don’t worry about it, he’s dead anyway. But you’re from Munich! Hehehe!” She leans in, then takes a sniff. “… hm.”

“Wh…” You stop yourself. Darn it, you stammered. “What is it?”
>>
[3/3]

“You smell familiar.” She leans in closer, too close. She then slowly licks your cheek, and you can’t help but squeak at the wet touch of her tongue. “… you taste familiar.” She leans back, further scrutinizing you. “You are someone I know but…” She bites her lip, narrowing her eyes. “Hm.” She leans back.

Oh thank God.

“Fine.” She pulls a knife from between her breasts, brandishing it at you. “I will have to carve your face off and see what’s so familiar about it.”

Oh.

The door explodes open, with Sumire busting in still in soldier garb. “Major, it’s a disaster! We have an intruder!”

“What!?” She stands up. “Where!?”

“He just killed the guards, I believe he is attempting to ignite the gasbags!” yells Sumire.

Knives nods, stepping out of the room. “Secure my quarters! I will deal with this myself!” She looks over at the dead guards. “Agh, damn it! Those men are expensive!” She hops over their corpses and starts running down the hall way.

“Ha!” Sumire grins, placing her hands on her hips. “I knew I’d get you out somehow!” She looks down at you. “… you okay? You look pale as a ghost.”

“I love you. So much.”

Sumire scoffs. “Finally admitting it, huh?” You slap her upside the head. “Ow! What!?”

“We gotta get these three girls out of here.”

“What!?” She leans over at the three girls. “These girls tried to kill us in the past and now you want to help them!?”

“Look at them! They’re helpless! They’re stuck like that for forever if we don’t figure out a way to save them! #5 has to have some sort of way to break them out of stupefaction!” You hold your hands together, pleading. “Come on, Sumire, help me with this just this once!”

She groans, slapping her mask. “Ugh! Fine.” You grin, hugging her. “Yeah, yeah.” She pushes you away. “But how are we going to sneak out three glowing statues!? You ever think of that!?”

“Kirby, what do you think?” you ask.

“Well, they may not be in control of their bodies, but we may be to stuff them in a box,” says Kirby. Sumire rolls her eyes. Well, you think she does beneath that mask of hers. “However, I do not recommend carrying them through to the generator. It would be impractical and downright dangerous to do so.”

“You can do it, Sumire. I trust you. Find something to transport them in, then exfil with Rana and Yevginy. I’ll find my own way out.”

“Alright, Libby. But don’t blame me when you’re on all fours and taking it in the ass.” You stare at her. What did she say!? “Just saying.” You shake your head, running out of the room and taking the opposite direction Knives did. Now it is a rush to find the generator.

-

-

After some frantic running through the confusing halls of the Zeppelin, you found the large gas generator beneath the gasbags. Not the safest place to put it but it’s probably the only logical place to put it. It’s connected up to the engine nacelles and the rest of the ship by one gigantic cable which frays out like tree roots to the rest of the Zeppelin. You quietly take out the technicians and guards around the generator, then plant some explosives that Rana loaned to you onto the generator.

Alright. By this point, Sumire should’ve escaped. “Kirby, is Sumire okay?”

“She is outside of my sight range, I do believe she has escaped.” Good good.

Alright, you get a good distance away, then hit the detonator. The generator explodes in a shower of fire and sparks. Right beneath the gasbags. Good thing those are helium bags. The electric lights and engines suddenly shut down. And you hear the faint rumbling of gunshots outside. Rana. Okay. Time to find a way out now.

With the lights out, your eyes start adjusting to the darkness as soldiers and officers stumble about. No need to reveal your shields just yet. They can’t see you run for your life anyway. You jump down a flight of stairs and end up in the hangar bay, where the interceptors and other auxiliary craft are located. Alright, just a matter of choosing which now. These interceptors aren’t equipped for ground landing. There’s actually a seaplane way in the back but…

You hear the sound of grinding and crashing metal. What was that? “I am sensing something coming our way,” says Kirby.

The door you came into the hangar bay through explodes open. Searchlights shine upon you from the shoulders of the robotic body. It stands twice as tall as you, and remains unchanged since you first encountered him in Japan. Him.

A burst of speed and you’re hiding in the steel reinforced columns lining the hangar walls. Otto takes exception to this and starts firing his machine guns, blasting apart the hangar bay and shredding planes that are hung up for deployment. He steps down, the catwalks creaking under his weight as he tries to pursue. Well, at least he can’t see you now. You make a run for it again, jumping right past his searchlights. He turns on a dime and fires another barrage, smashing up the catwalk behind you.

Otto is definitely not playing in the bush leagues that’s for sure! You dive downward, dodging a sweeping barrage of bullets. You look back to see him flip his gunarm up, and see the hot barrels burst out. They are immediately replaced by new cold ones. You continue running and running. You have to get to a plane or a boat or something!

There! An Arado 95 Biplane seaplane. All you have to do is get the hangar open!

… which you can’t because you disabled the generator.

You’re not going to mention this to Sumire or Rana. Ever.

“I will know though,” says Kirby.

“Quiet,” you hiss.

You draw a shield from your Soul Ring and drop down onto the hangar doors. If you can’t open them with a switch, you’ll open them by force! You shove your shield between the crack between the doors, and start pushing down like a crowbar. The doors start creaking and sliding open slightly. There you go!

Then you see Otto looking over the catwalk. Oh boy. A pair of rocket launchers flips out from his gunarm. Oh boy! You quickly dive, the rockets blasting the hangar doors right off their hinges. You yelp as you jump and grab onto the biplane, hanging from its arrestor hook. He stares up at you, then retracts the rockets and spins up the machine guns. “Kirby!”

[2/2]

The next burst of machine gun fire bounces off of a blue hexagonal shield. Kirby blocked it. He returns safely to your side. “Here we go!” you yell as you pull the switch. But before you can drop, he fires another burst, overwhelming the shield and slicing the tail to pieces. “Ah hell!” You pull up, and the old biplane struggles to go nose up as the engine roars to life.

Finally, you’re flying level now, slowly. Without the generator, they can’t turn their turrets on either. Haha! You made it! “Kirby, you okay?”

He appears in your lap, nodding. “Never ask me to block bullets again.” He spits out a bullet onto your leg, letting it roll to the floor.

You smile, laughing a bit. Rana and Sumire must have gotten out of there safe and sound. Now all there was to do was to head back to the island and land. You turn the stick left.

Nothing. You look back to see the tail smoking, swiss cheesed by Otto’s barrage of bullets. Oh. Well. “Okay, Kirby. Bad news. They got us.”

“Can we land?” he asks.

> “Yeah.” Jump out.

“Yep.” You grab the parachute out and put it on.

“Why are you taking the parachute?”

“Emergency landing.” You climb out onto the hull, and then take a jump. The wind screams in your ears as you freefall through the air. You pull the cord and let the parachute deploy. And snap, you’re now floating gently to the ground. The island is only a few miles away anyway. Even if you land in the water, you can probably make a swim for it.

Kirby floats next to you, staring at you. “This is your idea of an emergency landing?”

“Well…” You point to the plane, as it slowly dives to the ocean without a pilot. It explodes in the water. “Better than that.”

“That would not have happened if it had a competent pilot.”

“Yeah, see, Kirby. I’m not a competent pilot. I’m barely a girl as it is,” you say. That’s definitely something your mom would say. “Besides, we made it out fine.” You kick your legs a bit as you drift towards the island. “We’ll rally with Sumire and Rana, go exploring for the Atlas, boom, we’re set!”

“I see.” Kirby slouches over your shoulder. “Well then. I will defer to you for the rest of this mission then.” You smile. That’s the ticket.

-

-

To your frustration, you did land in the water. In the shallows though. Unfortunately, not anywhere near your camp. In fact, the wind was quite choppy tonight which blew you across the island and into a small lagoon probably on the other side of the island. Great, just great. You sigh, placing your hands on your hips. Kirby sits on your shoulder. “I have already alert Sumire and Rana to your location. We should stay put.”

“Alright.” You pick up the last remaining strands of the parachute and take a look around. Drinkable water from the lagoon, some fruit hanging from trees. Yeah, you should be fine. Though, you are feeling a bit sleepy. ‘Kirby, can you cover me for a second while I head to sleep?”

“Very well.” You lie down beneath a palm tree, and use the parachute as a pillow. Sweet bliss. Hm, hm.

Your eyes flutter open. It’s morning, and you yawn. Things are shaking a bit. Is there an earthquake? You try to feel your face, only to find that your hand appears to have been binded. What?! You look up to see your hands and your feet tied to a pole, being carried by some very strong brown men. Oh great, cannibals! Not again! “Kirby!” you yell.

Kirby is carried past, in a bamboo cage. “I tried to stop them. It did not work.”

“Really!? You’re a magical cat that can do a lot of things and yet you can’t stop a bunch of savages with bows and arrows!?”

“Yes.” He tilts his head. “If we could, why would we create Magical Girls?”

He- What!? Before you can talk further, he’s carried away. “Do not worry, Lightning and Bomber have been alerted. They will be here soon.”

“Come back here!” you yell. “Dang it!” You look at the cannibals. Bones in their noses, war paint on their strong chests and bodies, thatched clothing from palm tree leaves and lily pads. Yep, these were cannibals alright. You’re taken to some sort of village, where the natives holler and shout at their new feast coming to the communal fire. You’re set right over the burning heat, and immediately you hug the bamboo pole you’re tied to.

Okay, think, Libby. What did you do the last time you were about to be eaten by cannibals?

Okay, the last time you were about to be eaten by cannibals, Sumire saved you.

“Wait, wait!” you yell at them. They holler louder and louder, but you quickly motion for one of the girls to come closer. She’s about your age, wearing nothing but straps and palm tree thatching to cover herself. So shameless. “You, you!” She points to herself, then you nod. And she steps over skeptically as the others crowd around her.

“What are you doing?” asks Kirby.

“A neat little party trick Sumire showed me.” And kept doing to you for weeks until you took all of the quarters out of the house. You reach for the girl’s ear. She puts her hand over her ear, probably to protect the wooden earrings she wears. Fair enough, fine. But you aren’t going for those. No, you’re going for the quarter stuck behind her ear! You pull the shiny metal quarter out for all to see. The tribals all ooooh and aaah the trick, the girl especially taking the quarter and scrutinizing it heavily. Their eyes go wide as the communal fire is doused so you aren’t cooked. Okay, good.

“Parlor tricks?” asks Kirby again.

“No. This is genuine magic. Here, let me show you.” You force your hands free from the rope bindings and hang by your feet, grinning. They all shout in surprise as you flip up and stand on the pole as if nothing happened. “Eh? That good or what?” Houdini has nothing on you. The tribals all look at each other, surprised, perplexed, dazzled by you.

Well, there’s more than that came from.

> MAGICAL GIRL LIGHTNING! <

> MAGICAL GIRL BOMBER! <

“Libby, we’re here to save you!” Lightning and Bomber crash through the bushes leading into the village. “Alright, you Okinawan scumbag! Get ready for…” They see you holding a bamboo stick like a baseball bat, swinging it slowly to really emphasize how to swing it.

“And see, it’s all in the hips.” You swing your hips with the bat. “All in the hips.” This time, you go full speed and swing in full, and they all gasp in surprise. The first tribal girl especially follows your every move and hangs on your every word. You look over to see Lightning and Bomber, staring at you in confusion. “Oh, hey guys.” You hand over the bamboo bat to one of the tribals and walk over. The girl follows you, staring up at you as she would a parent. “I was just teaching these guys how to play baseball. Was going to get a field going.”

Bomber gasps happily. “Oooh!” She raises her hand. “Can I play center! I love playing outfield!” Lightning slaps her upside the head. “Ow!”

“Okay, you’re safe.” Lightning shoves her naginata back into her Soul Ring, crossing her arms and pouting. “You had me worried there you know.”

“Sorry, sorry.” You look over at the girl. “Oh, this is uh…” Um.

She stares up at you, with gap teeth, a brown body, and dreadlock hair. Dang it. You don’t know what her name is. And you can’t ask her either, the language barrier and everything.

“That’s not her name, is it?” says Lightning. You shake your head. “Well, it is now!” Lightning leans in. “How are you, little Sacky?”

“Sacagawea!” She claps her hands, grinning in Lightning’s face.

“Yeah, that’s not gonna get annoying,” says Lightning. “How about we talk?” You nod. Alright. Sacagawea immediately grabs your hand and follows you, still happily looking up at you as if you were God himself. All you did was show her a few magic tricks.

You sit in one of the houses, with a pair of men fanning cool air towards you with great big palm leaves. “So how did you get here so quick?”

Sumire places down a map of the island, mostly complete. “We ran a recon sweep with the remaining P-40 when dawn broke. Managed to cartograph ourselves a rudimentary map of the area. You take a look at the map. Not too shabby. “It didn’t take too long to find you, our camp’s due south only about a mile or two on the beach. This lagoon here’s a major landmark on the island.”

“I see.” You fold your arms. “How are Captain Kozminsky and crew doing?”

“They’ve set up camp and were exploring into the jungle last I heard,” says Rana. “Though, Captain Kozminsky did say that he felt the island feels a little… cursed.” She shrugs, scratching at her chin. “I wonder what he meant by that.”

[1/2]
>>
[2/2]

“It means he’s scared and he’s a total pussy,” Sumire candidly states. “There’s no such things as curses. The big thing now though should be finding the Atlas. We sweep the island, look for anything vaguely manmade or something, then we get out. Right?”

“It’s going to be harder than that. We only have the island but we don’t know where on the island it could be or how it’s hidden,” you say. “It could be under this village or in the lagoon or buried in the beach somewhere and we’d never know about it.” You lean forward, and immediately Sacagawea offers you a splintered coconut to drink from. Oh, thanks. You take a sip from them milky coconut drink then say, “And we have limited time too. The Magisch Korps isn’t going to dawdle around in the sea forever.”

Sumire groans. “So what then?” You take another look at the map. “Where do we start?”

“This mountain here would be a good place to start. The vantage point would serve us good plus usually people hide things in mountains.” You shrug. “I think we’ll start there and work our way down first. If we find the Atlas, well, that’s just a bonus.” Sumire and Rana nod, agreeing to that.

“Question is how do we get up there, it looks pretty steep,” says Rana.

You motion to Sacagawea. “She can be our guide. Right, Sacky?” She blinks, then you point to the mountain on the map. She nods, grinning. “There. We’re all happy.”

“There’s another issue though,” says Sumire. “The Magisch Korps.” Oh great. “You really did a number on the one Zep, but the other, well, they could deploy one of those heavy helicopter transports. It’s likely they’re going to make landfall on the island soon.”

“I thought we had more time,” you say.

“We do have time,” she says. “They can only fit so much in one of those transports. It’ll likely just be a scouting party. Hell, they’re probably not even sure why we’re here in the first place.” She’s… actually got a point. Knives was here for Captain Kozminsky it seems at first, and did not appear to be aware that there was even an island out here in the first place. “They’ll land somewhere, say it’s empty, boom, they’ll leave.”

“Wait, why did you say it was an issue then?”

She shrugs, smirking. “I like to make you worry. You’re cute when you worry.” You pinch at her cheek, shutting her up and making her squeak in pain.

“Right. We’ll get some supplies then we’ll make for the mountain.”

Sacagawea has armed herself with a spear in her hand and a hatchet tied to a rope around her hip. She leads you on a small out of the way path through the jungle towards the mountain. Already, the rise is noticeable as you’re more climbing than walking. Sumire grumbles, complaining that she’s not paid enough to climb mountains while Rana simply and happily follows after you. At least that’s one mouth that’s not complaining.

Sumire steps up next to you. “Um, quick question, Libby.” You look over to her, quirking your brow. “Exactly how sure can we trust the brownie we just recruited?”

“Hey, she’ll be like Sacagawea leading Louis and Clark,” you state. Yeah, that’s why you named her that. Yeah. “You’ll see.”

All Sumire says is a very naked brown butt in front of her. “Yeah. I can see,” she says very sarcastically. You roll her eyes. She acts as if she hasn’t seen that before.

“Come on, Rana! It’ll be like the pioneer explorers blazing across America, manifest destiny and all that!”

Sumire looks back to Rana, smirking. “Didn’t the guys who say manifest destiny steal and rob the people who lived on the land before them and force them to integrate or die?” Rana is silenced by that, not knowing for sure what to say. You gotta admit that Sumire’s up with her history. “Besides, this is not the pioneer explorers. You’re not going to find giant monsters to slay.”

Rana narrows her eyes. “Come on, Sumire. That’s not…” She looks at you, skeptical. “It’s not, right?”

“Don’t crush Rana’s hopes and dreams, Sumire.” You nudge her a bit. “They’re all she has.” Rana grins happily, giggling a bit. “Why not let her enjoy what makes America for a bit longer.”

Sumire huffs. “Don’t blame me if her naivety breaks her heart.” Honestly, you were kind of broken into the dark sides of American history at a young age. Slavery, the American Indians, the War of 1812, stuff like that. “Still, I just think it’s a little scummy having to rely on a native guide.”

You smirk. “Jealous that I don’t need to rely on you?”

“Please.” She rolls her eyes. “She’s going to break your heart. And when you come back for me, maybe I’ll say maybe.” You gently backhand her cheek, silencing her.

Sacagawea points upwards. “Sacagawea!” she says. You really need to teach her more words than that. All of you stop to look up at the mountain. There you see the Nazi helicopter plane circle above its summit, apparently looking for a place to land. It’ll be a long road to climb, but you’ll make it up there for sure.

“Alright, everyone. Double time.” You smack Sacagawea’s butt, forcing her to move on. “Come on, let’s go, let’s go.” Sumire moves on past you, then Rana. You look back at the village behind you, next to that lagoon. You sure hope that if a fight comes, these people aren’t caught in the crossfire.

You shake your head and move on.
