The asteroid base Pezun, home to the Titans mobile suit combat instructor corps led by Tachibana Kamuna and the former Zeon prince Casval Rem Deikun, who goes by the name Char Aznable. It's a particularly large base, meant to house a contingent of mobile suits as well as fabrication facilities within tunnels carved into the asteroid itself. It's not especially surprising that this would be the last bastion of the old Titans organization within the Earth Sphere.

You've come here at Char's request, in order to coordinate the Earth Sphere's defense against the attacks of Mars Zeon and the Jovian-led Titans faction alongside several other commanders. Amuro Ray is here representing the Federation special forces, and Cima Garahau is here to represent her own forces loyal to the Republic of Zeon despite her political exile. Their ships have docked at Pezun already in advance of the Nagato, and so the asteroid's defense teams are free to escort your ship in to dock.

They're apparently new models, each painted a deep blue color and laden with thrusters and fuel tanks: it seems Tachibana and the instructors have made great efforts to modernize their forces in preparation for a battle like the one to come. Their design is uniquely Titans in appearance, mixing characteristics of Federation and Zeonic design and apparently eschewing close combat for high speed and long range. It looks like their limbs can barely move with all the gimbals and storage tanks.

After Defrah puts all two kilometers of the Nagato's hull in a stable station keeping position, a feat few helmsmen in the Federation would be able to do, Karen turns to ask your opinion.

“You've got a better sense for these guys than I do,” she admits. “What sort of team should we be taking?”

Using your Newtype abilities, you manage to get a solid general feel for the individuals who have come ashore on Pezun, though you can't learn much more than a few specific identities and the number of individuals they've brought along with them. To your surprise, it seems like each group may actually have their own expectations for the meeting, as the delegations they've sent are each quite different from each other.

“Amuro Ray is alone,” you announce. “Tachibana and Char have brought along one other individual who I don't recognize, and Cima has brought a small detachment of marines.”

“Are they expecting trouble?” Karen asks.

You shrug. “It's hard to say for sure, but Amuro seems not to. Cima's detail may just be there for show as well. Knowing her, it could be a negotiating tactic.”

“So technically anything could be fine,” Karen nods. “Good. Artesia and Haman will be our representatives, you and Carya will be their guard.”

Two smart negotiators who will probably put Char and Amuro at a disadvantage just by being there, guarded by probably the two most powerful remaining Newtypes out of your crew. It certainly seems to be a small but effective team, splitting the apparent differences between the groups already here.

“I have no objections,” you finally tell Karen. “I'll assemble the team and head over immediately.”

“Watch for any signs of an ambush,” your commanding officer warns you. “Char's the one who called the meeting, so I'm a little wary.”

“Will do, ma'am.”

The short trip to Pezun Base's main conference room is brief, but tense. Haman's eyes remain shut the whole way, though you can tell that she's trying very hard to maintain maximum awareness of the surroundings as you ride towards your destination. What you can't tell immediately is whether she's noticed anything amiss. For her part, Artesia seems alert but unconcerned.

Carya scratches idly at her eyepatch a few times along the way, and her good blue eye meets yours. You can tell she's the most on edge of your group, probably because she's aware of how many things can go wrong on a mission like this. After all, Tachibana and Char aren't quite your allies, and you've come to meet them on their own turf.

"Welcome to Pezun," Tachibana greets you as your team finally arrives, taking their seats at a large table. At one end sits Amuro by himself, and at the other end is Cima surrounded by her marines, who choose to sit behind her well away from the actual table. It feels for all the world like that's the "head" of the table, which is likely intentional on her part. Your hosts sit across from your group, with Tachibana in the center flanked by a Titans instructor and Char on either side.

"Artesia. Haman." Char greets the two women of his past flatly. "You're both here just on my account? I'm flattered."

"Don't take it personally, Char," Haman scoffs.

"And who might your companion be?" Artesia inquires.

"This is Brave Cod, the lead instructor at Pezun," Tachibana explains, gesturing towards the stout-looking officer at his left.

Although you quickly decide to let Haman and Artesia handle the negotiating, you can't help but size up the others present in the room. Next to you, you can tell that Carya and Catrina are doing the same. What you find is actually rather enlightening.

Char and Amuro both appear to be stronger Newtypes than how you remember them, though Char in particular seems different. It almost feels as if he's found a sort of resolve he didn't have before, and that's what has made him more powerful... and likely more deadly as well. You have to wonder what sort of purpose could change a man that drastically.

On Tachibana's opposite side is Brave Cod, who strikes you as intriguing as well. Though he's certainly not a Newtype, you can tell by looking at him exactly why there are rumors within the Earth Federation Forces that he might be. His figure is powerful and compact, and his shoulder and neck muscles look like they're stronger than most men's biceps. Either he's trained extensively until his body can resist g-loads that would kill or incapacitate the average person, or he's had just that much time at the controls of a mobile suit that he increased his g-load tolerance naturally over time. And there's something about his demeanor... you feel like he could smash half his face apart and still keep flying without pause.

He may even be a better technical pilot than you or Carrina.

“So why don't you lay out what intel you have on Paptimus first,” Artesia addresses Tachibana, placing the focus solely on your Pezun hosts.

Tachibana nods to Cod, who produces a folder from a sidebag on the floor.

“This is everything,” he grunts. “Performance reviews, psychological examinations, and flight data."

The reviews paint a disturbing picture of Paptimus Scirocco.

Born in the Jupiter Empire, rose to power as Captain of his own helium transport. Noted by Titans for his passionate interest in designing and piloting mobile suits, he was quickly recruited at the Luna-end of one of his vessel's shipping runs. That's where things started to go awry.

As a junior officer, Paptimus was obliged to submit to frequent reviews of his performance, which highlight an extreme degree of skill. However it was also noted that he was ruthless, with a habit of endangering both teammates and civilians to accomplish his objectives. He also seemed preoccupied with promotion, going out of his way to “pad his resume” prior to each round of promotions being handed out.

His psychiatric reviews were even more telling. More than once he was described with the recurring words “arrogant”, “ambitious”, and “ruthless”. But there are also several reports that describe him as disarmingly charming, and quick to manipulate others: especially women. One female psychologist even went so far as to describe his tendencies as “bordering on predatory”.

“This guy's a real piece of work,” Catrina summarizes for Artesia and Haman's benefit. “Brilliant skills, but absolutely a rotten piece of shit as a person. Utterly unscrupulous.”

“And his flight data?” Haman asks.

You briefly look over the telemetry from his final mission under Titans. “Reactions frequently well into the negatives, fairly precise maneuvering, good aim. He's good, probably as good as most of our teammates.”

“Well, that's a problem,” Cima sighs. “Could you take him one on one?”

After a moment of pondering, you draw an unsatisfactory conclusion. “Fifty-five to forty-five, my favor,” you suggest.

“Amuro?” you ask, looking up at the young man who's so far remained silent at the end of the table.

His eyes, which have been on Artesia this whole time, finally fall on you. “Yes?”

“Can the Federation tell us anything about what sort of hardware Paptimus has? Your team was the last one to make contact.”

Amuro nods slowly. “Right. Well, he has a converted helium carrier and at least three escort carriers. That's somewhere between twelve and twenty mobile weapons, which would be the bulk of his offensive capabilities.”

“And did you get a good look at what he was fielding?” Haman presses.

“He has at least two customized mobile suits,” Amuro explains. “High performance, heavily armed. Set up for Newtype pilots, I thought. His subordinates seem to mostly use upgraded Marasai taken from the leftover Titans stock.”

That certainly seems like something you can deal with, although the custom machines give you some pause.

I've been thinking how to use the psycho frame to best use.

I think we leak that Char and Armuro figured out the secret of the psycho frame and already equiped their suits with them.

They'll act as bait to draw out the elite units and our team will ambush for the kill.
>>
>>42890415
To make the ambush more effective, we should deploy decoys out our units throughout the formation to keep them guessing where our units really are.
>>
>>42890021
“So, Cima,” you continue. “I take it you've got something for us?”

“Yes,” Haman practically purrs. “What DOES the esteemed Cima Garahau have to offer?”

Cima shifts her weight, casually crossing her legs under the table as a marine hands her a dataslate.

“Let me see,” she muses, riffling through the data at her fingertips. “When Mars Zeon started out they had nine capital ships, as I'm sure you're aware Miss Karn. They also had about forty mobile suits, several of which were subsequently destroyed in Federation raids including the one Dominic here led.”

“That was a good mission,” you sigh. “Absolutely surgical. Back when losing a handful of GM pilots was the worst we could expect.”

“Well, you did quite well that day, at least,” Char interrupts. “The mission could have gone much better.”

“I'm sure,” Cima waves dismissively. “That being said, he has been joined by at least three more ships under the leadership of a brat by the name of Glemy Toto. Kid's quite smart, and he's got a chivalrous attitude that makes him popular among Mars personnel in a way his benefactor Bernini isn't.”

“Or so our spies tell me.”

“Is he skilled?” Amuro asks.

“It's rumored he's a Newtype,” Cima admits. “Though we could not confirm that. It seems that would make him the only Newtype serving Mars Zeon.”

“Or at least the only natural one,” Tachibana comments. “There were three cyber-Newtypes in their scouting party, were there not?”

“Admittedly true,” Artesia nods. “Though I fear their failure and defection may have led Bernini to find tighter means of controlling the ones who remain in his custody.”

“Clarify that,” you tell Artesia. “I know what it means, but not everyone here does. I want us on the same page.”

“It means that they've probably been pharmacologically and psychologically conditioned,” Artesia explains, “to the point of ego death. They probably can't think critically or question their orders.”

You nod to Artesia, silently thanking her for the explanation that seems to shock Tachibana and disgust Cod. “That being said, here's what our long-range telemetry shows.”

“They've been busy,” Char mutters to himself as he looks over the data Haman slides across the table to him. “They're up to at least fifteen capital ships, and around a hundred and fifty mobile suits.”

“They seem split between the Axis escort force and a rear force,” Haman explains. “No idea what the exact units are, but it's probably six cruisers and battleships following Axis with the bulk of their mobile weapons.”

“We suspect they've equipped most of those forward machines as Newtype-killers,” you add. “Thy probably figure we'll be in the vanguard, so they're going to counter with wire-guided weaponry and explosive submunitions.”

“Submunitions?” Amuro inquires. “You mean like old-fashioned cluster munitions?”

“That's right,” you reply. “They're better at anti-shipping roles, when they're required to open a hull to the vacuum, and at hitting fast-moving targets.”

“But those have been illegal for years,” Amuro observes.

Brave Cod frowns. “Titans was working on new cluster munitions here at Pezun, and at other bases. I'm honestly surprised it took as long as it did for people to start deploying them.”

“You think they were supplied by Paptimus,” Haman deduces. Cod nods quietly.

“So it seems like we'll be attacking at force parity,” Cima frowns. “Not ideal, but it gives us options. And given the state of affairs in the Earth Sphere it's better than we might expect.”

“What other technologies might they have that we haven't been made aware of?” you press, still a little miffed that Tachibana and Char hadn't told you earlier that technology may have gone missing from Titans and ended up in Mars Zeon hands.

Char shakes his head. “I'm sure you know that our mutual benefactors have given Paptimus our so-called 'trump card', Captain O'Hara.”

“I guessed as much,” you frown, confusing the few oldtypes in the room. “But did he leak that to Mars?”

“Even if he did,” Haman replies, leaning back in her chair, “I doubt Bernini would use it. He's got a pathological fear of Newtypes and everything to do with us.”

“That's true,” Cima agrees. “Though if Mars has any access to Newtype technology, you can bet Glemy Toto will try to make use of it.”

“So how do we deal with the big problem?” you ask. “Axis won't just stop on a dime.”

The room goes quiet for a few minutes.

“We'd have to destroy its thermonuclear engines,” Amuro suggests. “Then decelerate it.”

>>42891507
Okay, I've got an idea: The Earth Sphere has been fighting for a long long time, and there are a LOT of weapons left around, and a lot of Veteran Mobile Suit pilots. There are undoubtedly a hundred outdated deathtraps lying around, and we can undoubtedly find pilots for them, and the Nagato has space to carry them.
Now obviously, sending them against modern mobile suits is simply useless suicide, but if we hold them in reserve aboard the Nagato and wait for the enemy to commit their mobile suit reserves, we can either send them on an antishipping strike against the enemy ships, or send them directly against axis. Doesn't matter if they are outdated if all they are facing is ship guns.

It takes you a moment to process how wrong that statement was. So long, in fact, that Carya's the first one to answer while everyone else in the room is still gobsmacked.

“Amuro?” she asks warily. “You do realize that's not how orbital mechanics work, right? Like... not even close?”

Haman nods in agreement as Artesia simply pinches the bridge of her nose.

Char shakes his head. “That would guarantee Axis striking the Earth, Amuro. Trust me, I've done the math.”

“Why have you done the math for that?” Cima asks, nonplussed.

“It's... a long story for another time.”

“Point is,” Carya interrupts, “if we decelerate it, that means it just falls into Earth's gravity well. Instead what we need to do is use those thermonuclear engines as attitude control, let the gravitational pull of the Earth itself accelerate Axis onto a course towards the sun. Or Venus. Venus could probably take the hit.”

“And how do we do that?” Tachibana asks. “The calculations would be too much for a team of experts to do in a day, let alone the time frame we'd be looking at.”

“We've got an AI,” you state simply. “She does that sort of shit for fun. The real question is how do we deal with the enemy fleet.”

“I've actually got an idea or two in mind that suit my style,” Cima reminds you.

Haman also nods in agreement. “I've got an idea too. All I need is volunteers, and whatever leftover hunks of junk we can get from the EFSF scrapyards.”

“What're you cooking up?” Catrina asks.

“I was thinking we put the hangar space aboard the Nagato to better use. Carry a second strike force of as many outdated mobile suits as we can to deploy once the Mars mobile suits are committed.”

“If you want to know how effective even those old machines would be against capital ships, just ask Char over there.”

Char scratches his chin. “They'd be easy prey."

>I like it.
>I'm not sure I like their odds.

But still, let's brainstorm a bit more before we commit to anything.

Better than the Dolos...
>Other ideas for tactics?
Though always need a Plan B...

Perhaps we could make use of Luna 2's Nuclear arsenal in some way...
>>
>>42892073
Guessing Kamille's standin went full vegetable before doing something useful.
>>
>>42891990
>I like it.
Given their predictable orbital path, mines might actually work.
>>
>>42892122
Well, Gato never destroyed the Solar Array in this timeline, so we could use that.
>>
>>42892122

Did we wreck that gun, or is it still in some form of operational form?
>>
>>42891990
>Other ideas for tactics?
Assuming Mars Axis has experience fighting around debris fields and big asteroids (fuck you ZZ, even those grunts should be able to do basic evasion regardless of whether those rocks are decoys or not), it might be in our favor to battle in a gravity well.

The moon might be our best bet which also minimizes the risk to the Earth itself.
>>
>>42892157
Good point.

>>42891990
>We could always use the solar away to clear out some of the debris in orbit around earth.
>>
>>42892169
It's a debris field. They're still pulling bodies out of it.
>>
>>42892169
No, it's completely wrecked. We kind of detonated the fusion reactors by accident. And the warheads, while they didn't explode themselves (because nukes don't do sympathetic detonation), did get caught in the blast and were destroyed.
>>
>>42892182
That's a terrible idea. The moon would be really close to the point of no return.
>>
>>42892182
The moon is too close to the Earth.

Frankly, I'd use a asteroid base and throw it at Axis ala Futurama's garbage ball counter.
>>
>>42892182
So, wait, this is the alternate CCA scenario, where Char, Amuro et all are working together against Mars Zeon and Juipter?

Also, do we have access to any Biosensor/Psychoframe tech?
>>
>>42892261
>Biosensor/Psychoframe tech
Bio is in the process of being phased out in favor of the Psychoframe. Only got to test it once though, but it did look promising.
>>
>>42892261
Yes to both.
>>
>>42892261
Yes, that is exactly what this is. And we do have both the Biosensor and the Psycoframe.
>>
>>42891990
“I think it's a good idea,” you admit. “But how about mining the crap out of the approach vector?”

“It's a bit wide of a corridor,” Haman frowns. “But it's possible.”

“Luna 2 has nukes,” Char points out rather stoically.

Artesia shakes her head. “But do we want to be the ones to resort to that?”

“I'll do it,” Tachibana declares. “Titans are already considered the villains here, so if it can cut the enemy's numbers enough to land a force on Axis itself I'll make it happen.”

“Mines, nukes...” you mutter. “Superweapons? How many of those did Titans commission?”

“We still have the Solar Array,” Amuro observes. “We took it over from Titans.”

“Pezun also has a large, powerful mobile armor that could be used to even the odds,” Brave Cod informs you. “I've been training our instructors in its use. As for securing the landing zone on Axis, I'd like to volunteer my unit.”

“Noted,” Artesia nods. “Commodore Joshua and Captain O'Hara will make that final decision.”

“The Republic also has a few old toys,” Cima adds. “Three Jormungand plasma cannons, capable of ripping apart a battleship with one shot at three hundred kilometers.”

“I want 'em,” Carrina's eyes light up as she hears about the cannons. “You may never get 'em back.”

“That's fine,” Cima laughs. “Either way when this is done we won't need them anymore.”

>Any other issues?
>>
>>42892443
>Three Jormungand plasma cannons
I'm sorry, THREE Jormungands? Where did they get those? What madman kept building more of them?
>>
>>42892443
>Jormungand plasma cannons
Unf.
Also, nothing comes to mind.
>>
>>42892443
No, I think we're good. Let's rock.
>>
>>42892443
>Any other issues?
The Jovian's surely gonna sniff this op out.

The question is how's he gonna capitalize it to his advantage?
>>
I wonder if we could make a mega cannon with several reactors hooked up to it and just fire it through the debris field to clear it.

That's a good point, moving all that materiel around is going to be noticeable. Is there anything we can do to hide it?
>>
>>42892582
I'll handle it. It can be partially disguised as routine patrols and private shipping.
>>
>>42892443
Moving all this stuff around is going to be noticable. What can we do to make sure they don't completely figure out what we are planning?
>>
>>42892517
What does he want that will be lightly defended while we pretty much monofocus on Mars?
>>
>>42892261
Essentially yes. Also, Cima has basically become the Shogun of the Republic of Zeon.
>>
>>42892443
Alright, that concludes things for this weekend, thanks for playing! The archived thread is up for your convenience.

Next thread will be next Sunday. I'll keep track of suggestions and concerns in this thread and work them into the intro for Part #71, but it will also be the first part of the final battle. I intend for the battle to last around two threads, with a rather lengthy epilogue.

Look forward to a LOT of shit blowing up in SPECTACULAR fashion.
>>
>>42892715
Would you mind posting the smut you wrote for CC, Haman, and Rosse?
Good thread, btw!
>>
>>42892732
I stopped working on that a long time ago. There may be a minor addition of smut along with the epilogue.
>>
>>42892715
>Look forward to a LOT of shit blowing up in SPECTACULAR fashion.
Oh, I will, Hearts. I will. Thanks for running.
>>
>>42892556
Kycilia Zeon second best Zeon.

Garma Zeon best Zeon, because he either runs it really well or soon there is no more Zeons around.
>>
>>42892766
I know that, I meant what you'd written so far.
>>
I'm still waiting for char to find out we slept with his sister.
>>
>>42892777

Dozle Zeon Best Zeon. He's one of the lads! Fighting on the front, up close and personal.
And once Big Zam is Mass Produced...
>>
>>42892796
Might or might not do. Really kind of lost the drive to write or post that sorta thing.

Again, maybe after the plot is over.
>>
>>42892892
Fair enough. Thanks either way! Keep up the good work.
>>
>>42892623
More potential Newtypes? How old would Quess be at this point?
Or cyber-newtypes taking refuge, I reckon?
>>
So if there were to be a Super Robot Wars sort of deal later on, with a few of the characters from this universe making appearances, what other franchises/universes would people want to see?
>>
>>42892988
Like four. So she'd basically be acting the same way she did in CCA.
>>
>>42893000
Other Gundam quests for maximum confusion.
(Zolomon Ringo was pretty much designed for SRW)
>>
>>42893000
Megacrossovers are damn difficult to keep up with though. An OG offshoot might have less chances of speedbumps hitting it, but on the other hand might not garner sufficient attention
And I tend to stick close to Real Robot genres anyway, so Super Robots are out of my element, save for a few.

That said, I do fancy me some Break Blade, Majestic Prince, and Cross Ange. :^)

>>42893023
HAH!
>>
>>42893191
Isn't Cross Ange that show that's basically Genderflipped SEED?
>>
>>42893209
Or rather SEED where everyone's a girl.
>>
I gotta step out.

If I get back and there are unanswered questions, I'll answer them. If not, see you next weekend.
>>
>>42893209
>>42893229
I prefer the Le Creuset character for that show (as far as villain roles go) at least.
>>
>>42893000
If Getter's represented it should be Neo Getter.
Hopefully there'd be space in the plot for Patlabor to get in too, somehow.
>>
>>42892582
Flood the area with Minoskvy particles, his sensors are useless if you flood the area enough.
