Unfortunately, your power systems seem to be the system least effect by the second shift. The reactor itself hasn't changed, just the power transfer system configuration has. Being more efficient than before means no need to increase its capabilities.

Ending that instant surveying of your IS, you propel yourself into the fight. Seeing Gospel now engaged with Cecilia and Charlotte, you move to intercept. A slight shift in the posture of Gospel indicated by Reinforce, notes the use of a continuous barrage of plasma targeting both of them. Quickly getting into weapons range, you and Reinforce target the plasma projectiles with the highest probability to hit Charlotte and Cecilia. Using your twin-linked ADM blister packs, located in your wing pylons, and a Razor CIWS in both of your hands, you fire.

With perfect accuracy, your attack neutralizes most Silverio Gospel's plasma barrage targeting Cecilia and Charlotte.

“John?” Charlotte cries out once she realizes what happened.

“You're all right!” Cecilia yells out with easily noticeable relief.

“It will take more than that to knock me out.” you reply with a confident smile.

“Husband.” Laura says, unsure what to say next.

“Took you long enough.” Rin says with a touch of sarcasm and relief.

Quickly following up your defensive attack, you deploy the Gram in your left pylon with Gram in your left hand and Fragarch from your right wing pylon. Instantly locking onto Gospel, you fire again. Each shot connects with Gospel's armor pushing her back from the sheer kinetic force.

“John, you're fine.” Houki finally says over the comms, her voice cracking from her swirl of emotions.

Houki nods and calms herself down after taking a position opposite to Cecilia.

“You better not do that ever again or else I'll never let you go.” Charlotte chides you.

“That's right. I'll make sure you never leave my side. You are my husband after all.” Laura firmly states before she fires her railcannon several times.

“Could use a little help here.” Rin says as she tries to repel Gospel.

Your senses show that Gospel has reengaged with Rin and Laura. With a renewed sense of purpose, the four of you quickly move in diamond formation to help them. You instantly obtain a firing solution onto Gospel with Fragarch and Gram as Cecilia does the same. Cecilia and your fire streak across the sky into Gospel. Your fire cuts into Gospel's armor, forcing her to augment her mobility to evade your fire. Charlotte and Houki proceed to break off from formation and chase down Gospel.

“If we keep this up, we will surely win.” Cecilia says over comms.

“But we are running out of time.” you inadvertently let out.

“What do you mean?” Cecilia asks you, a touch of worry at your statement.

“Even if I second shifted, our energy is still finite.” you answer, not letting slip that the Carrier Battle Group is slowly closing in.

You and Cecilia fire again, striking Gospel across the back after Houki and Charlotte set up Gospel. Sure you might be able to keep this up but will it be quick enough to defeat Gospel before the CBG is in range?

“I have a suggestion.” Reinforce tells you.

“What do you have in mind?” you ask her.

“Who's voice was that?” Cecilia asks you, wondering who you are talking to.

Reinforce telepathically presents two options to you: Use your enhanced FCS and sensors to try and datalink with the others to coordinate a massive barrage against Gospel. Or get in in close and try a new semi-autonomous function of your weapon systems, simultaneously firing all your weapons more maximum effect.

“Yes, I'll get right on it.” Reinforce says with enthusiasm.

You can feel Reinforce quickly changing around some of functions of your communications lines to increase the bandwidth.

“John, who's voice was that?” Cecilia asks again.

“That is Reinforce's voice.” you answer in a matter of fact way.

“She can talk now?” Cecilia asks, surprise in her voice.

“I could always talk. It's just before I had problems fully conceptualizing my voice.” Reinforce answers. “Now everyone, please open the comm line I have prepared.” Reinforce asks while she sends a message to each of the girls' IS'.

“Is this Reinforce?” Charlotte asks, the first to open the datalink.

An image of a cute and small Reinforce plays on their AR HUD as the datalink, formerly a comm channel, is established.

“She does seem a bit familiar.” Cecilia comments almost nostalgically.

“Datalink is open.” Laura flatly replies after opening the re-purposed comm line.

“I'm ready here.” Houki says, steel in her voice.

“Why do you get all the fun things!” Rin yells out, frustrated and jealous.

After Reinforce confirms the integrity of the datalink. You and Reinforce begin feeding everyone data from your IS. At first it feels a little disorienting for you, you feel pulled in various directions before Reinforce is able to fixes that issue. Afterwords, you can easily use the increased in sensor data. Minor actions or movements from Gospel are not only easier to see, but you can coordinate firing solutions with everyone else.

The first thing you do, is send firing solutions to Laura and Cecilia. On cue, Laura and Cecilia fire simultaneously. Laura's kinetic penetrator gracefully arcs across the sky hitting Gospel's right side. Cecilia's laser beams from her laser rifle and four laser bits cut directly into Gospel's left back hitting the exact same spot with perfect accuracy. The simultaneous impact from opposite sides seems to have stunned Gospel.

“No way.” Cecilia says with disbelief after her shots hit the mark.

“Your love guided my aim, John!” Laura yells out without a trace of doubt or embarrassment.

You and Reinforce quickly set up the next firing solution. A massed ranged weapon attack from everyone. Reinforce quickly prepares the calculations and movement projections while you set up the weapons and coordination. Once both sides are completed, you send the data to everyone else.

“You sure about this?” Rin asks.

“Have a little faith Rin.” Charlotte answers.

“Fine, fine. When the world gets crazy, I guess you want the CRAZY GUY to lead.” Rin replies with a somewhat accepting voice.

Now that Gospel has begun her attack run on Houki. You deploy Fragarch and Witchcraft to your hands while both Grams on your wing pylons are deployed. In the instant Gospel switches from augmenting her mobility to augmenting her firepower, you send the cue to fire.

The sheer amount of noise generated from everyone firing blots out any other noise in the world. Cecilia firing her laser rifle and 4 laser bits. Charlotte firing both of her assault rifles. Laura continuously firing with her railcannon. Rin blasting away with her Dragon Cannons. Houki swinging the deep red energy beams from her Amatsuki. And your own weapon firing away at the oncoming Gospel collide with her head on. You continue to fire until a cloud of fire and smoke form around Gospel. The long barrage finally ends as you wait to see the aftermath.

The smoke cloud takes a few moments to clear. Floating there, Silverio Gospel is still standing. Her armor cracked, arcs of electricity course along the armor, her movement sluggish. You can feel that the end is very close.

“John, there is a problem. Gospel's armor integrity is cracked in several places. It can threaten the life of the pilot if broken.” Reinforce announces coolly on the comms.

You quickly confirm by taking everyone's sensor data and forming an enhanced composite image that you send to all the other girls across the datalink.

“She's not making it easy for us.” Charlotte comments.

“This is a time American stubbornness is completely troublesome.” Cecilia adds.

Now you have to figure out a way to stop Gospel without breaking her armor. This isn't going to be easy.

Quickly deciding your next action, you undeploy your weapons just to take out your out your Balder longsword and charge straight at Gospel.

“We can't risk another barrage again. I'll get in close and finish this.” you announce over the comms.

“I'll support you.” Houki says as she follows your lead.

“You know you're crazy. We just have to be a bit more careful with our fire.” Rin responds.

“Not worth the risk.” you quickly reply, “I'm not willing to risk the life I have to save.”

Rin quietly accepts your answer by following your lead.

“John, we'll cover you.” Charlotte says with Laura and Cecilia in agreement.

“Watch your fire, we just need to keep her pinned in. We can't let this go on any longer.” you tell them as you feel the noose of the CBG tighten.

Gospel, now slower than before, reacts to your charge by trying and get some distance between the two of you. Rin keeps her distance from you and opts to head off Gospel. Houki instead stays on your 6 for support. You open up your throttle and quickly close the distance. Realizing she can no longer escape, Gospel decides to augment her firepower and attack you.

You ignore the incoming plasma barrage and use your enhanced RCS and maneuverability to avoid all of it. Gospel tries to increase the density of the barrage in your direction but by then it's too late. Your strike hits the chest plate hard enough to send her reeling. In Gospel's path is Houki waiting to strike. A flurry of precise strikes hit Gospel at places where the armor is still strong but that only sends cracks further along the armor.

Knowing she is losing her ground, Gospel disengages with a burst of close range plasma. Gospel then tries to break away from you only to have Rin fire her Dragon cannons ahead of her, slowing Gospel down. Taking this chance Cecilia, Charlotte and Laura use the datalink to coordinate an arc of fire stopping Gospel from advancing. Now no longer moving, you can end this.

Gospel's armor is cracking all over and near the end. You can't let this go on any longer. You open up your engines and perform your final charge of the battle. Gospel tries to dissuade you with a dense barrage of plasma projectiles. You counter with firing the ADM blister packs into the barrage. The resulting explosion covers your advance straight into Gospel. You undeploy your longsword and catch Gospel in a tackle.

“You can't do that. What if you got hurt?” Houki yells out, chasing after you.

“You're crazy for doing that again.” Rin yells out.

Gospel tries to break from your grip but you don't let her go. You open up your throttle while still holding on forcing her backwards. She tries to counter it with her own thrust but is powerless against your now second shifted engines. You keep on pushing and hold forcing her lower and lower until you finally crash into a small uninhabited island.

Gospel at first tries to break away but you take this chance and pin her to the ground. You use your engines and RCS to keep her pinned as she thrashes about. Realizing she is unable to escape, Gospel augments her firepower and fires plasma at point blank range. Your sight goes white from the plasma impact. You can taste the ozone and heat from the plasma hitting your shields.

“The shields won't last much longer like this.” Reinforce comments as your shields continue to drop at an uncomfortable rate.

“Not much longer.” you reply, relying on your instinct on how much energy Gospel has left.

The ground around the two of you bakes as Gospel continues her plasma barrage. Houki and Rin are in a holding pattern above as Cecilia and Charlotte watch from a distance. The heat starts to break through your shield causing sweat to drop down your face onto Gospel. You keep firm and watch as Gospel's thrashing slows down and become languid. The plasma barrage slows down until it was a trickle compared to before.

In a desperation move, Gospel begins to charge up a plasma beam aim straight at your head. You struggle against her weakening strength and pull her hand free and point it away from the two of you. The plasma beam fires, desperately trying to find a target against your competing grip. The beam sails aimlessly into the sky.

Gospel lies there spent. Unable to move, attack or even react, she shuts down. You hold here there until the entire body glows a soft white light. The light coalesces and finally collapses into itself. Laying there, Natasha is softly sleeping wearing a white with blue accented IS uniform. A silver cross with cracks along its surface hangs down her neck, the undeployed form of Silverio Gospel. You partially undeploy the Maeve's armor around your arms and gently pick up Natasha in your arms.

“Mission accomplished.” you announce over all the comm lines.

The sounds of happiness and relief resound over the comms.

“Good job everyone.” Ms Orimura tells the 6 of you.

“It's over.” Rin says with relief in her voice.

“We did it.” Houki adds.

“Was there any doubt in our ability?” Laura asks, now rejoining your group.

“Of course not. With John leading us, he without question brought out my true capabilities.” Cecilia answers with the utmost confidence.

“I'm just glad you're alright. That was a risky move to tackle her John.” Charlotte tells you, a touch of worry in her voice.

“It was risky but saving the three of them was worth the risk.” you reply proudly, not letting your newly apparent fatigue color your voice.

“So just how close was your shield to collapsing?” Charlotte asks.

“2% remaining.” Reinforce informs all of you.

Rin just sighs, “You really are nuts.”

“I'm sorry to rain on your parade, but John could you return Natasha to us?” Walken asks over an open comm channel.

Reinforce quickly finds the source of communication. A B-47 drone flies high overhead as an advanced scout. It must be bouncing the signal from the Carrier Battle Group to you.

“This is an official IS Academy operation.” Ms Orimura replies with a firm tone.

“And Natasha Fairs is a US national equip with US Government property.” Walken replies as he tries and stay diplomatic.

“Outside interference could your people at risk as we do not know the cause of Silverio Gospel gong rogue.” Ms Orimura retorts.

“We have Silverio Gospel's design team and maintenance crew on hand to make sure it will not go rogue again. And as we speak, the captain has already launched Medivac to treat Ms Fairs.” Walken replies, keeping his tone even.

Shit were they already that close? Helis don't have the range compared to fast movers. Did they hold off launching or is the CBG just get within range?

You hear Walken and Ms Orimura go back and forth over the comms while you try to figure out what to do. Do you return to Ms Orimura at the inn with Natasha or do you return to the CBG with Walken waiting with experts on hand?
