You see that Ayla wasn’t kidding about beating up whoever hurt the phoenixes. With his complete deference to Ayla the noble djinni doesn’t even try to defend himself.

You leave Ayla to it and go check up on Evangeline, she seems a bit groggy and confused.

“You got hit by a djini’s psychic attack,” you explain to her.

She jerks awake a bit more at your comment, she thought this was a dream for a moment. Evangeline then opens the cockpit of the power armor to talk to you directly.

“Is that what happened?” She asks, “I just remember being so tired.”

“May I suggest taking the time to increase your defenses against such attacks,” Hestia’s avatar appears on the previously deactivated screens.

“Well I can just spontaneously gain new powers, so excuse me!” Evangeline bites back, she is upset that she was taken out again without even a fight.

“Yes, most organics are rather static in that regard,” Hestia says, “if you are willing I can attempt to assist your mind develop.”

“That can come later, did something happen?” You ask and pull the laptop out to read any reports Hestia has compiled.

“Yes, you have an angry visitor,” Hestia tells you.

Completed Research

>Elemental Field control – Hestia has developed this new ability from studying your holy aura. Through careful control of mana a field of elemental energy can be created to damage or repel enemies. She seems quite proud of extrapolating the functionality to apply to all elements rather than just holy energy. Should you tell her about your newly developed ability to do the same? Or do you keep quiet for now to avoid the dissection table.

>Holographic simulation – Using her knowledge of force-energy structures and hard light holograms Hestia was able to create a fully immersive holographic simulation. Training, learning, and recreation facilities are now being altered to take advantage of these holograms.
>>
>Technological stealth – The researchers have come up with a way to mimic the magical stealth field with entirely non-magical means. Overall the magical system is superior but this break through allows for further advancements into stealth technology.

>Hard shielding – This advancement grants shields non-magical damage reduction and alters the process of forming and maintain the force fields to prevent attacks from piercing the shields before entirely depleting the protection they offer.

>Energy dispersion – A special nano scale application of crystalline monofilaments has enabled Hestia to create armor (or even clothing) that safely dissipates the energy from laser based attacks.

>Acoustic shields – Marissa has lead a small group of researchers in studying lesser forms of force fields after noticing that your shield technology has a substantial gap in basic understanding. A sound and cold plasma system of shielding has been created. It is useless in combat.

>Electrostatic shields – A secondary application of electricity Marissa’s team discovered. By building up a large electrostatic charge incoming missiles or perhaps even attack craft can be destroyed. The arcs of electricity are particularly devastating with your current power storage technology. Some tests from Hestia revealed that this shielding is less effective on organic based attacks or organisms.

>High frequency vibration – By rapidly vibrating a monofilament blade its destructive power can be vastly improved. While the researchers did not consider it, Hestia was able to apply the same general idea to holographic weaponry. The effectiveness of bladed weapons has been greatly increased.

>Lich's crystal – With your help Hestia was able to extract the spell that the crystal used and made a few efficiency improvements to adding enchantments to items. Hestia theorizes it should be possible to create a mass animation effect but, she seemed reluctant to complete it unless another massive army attacks.

Important note

>Administration activity – The war has abruptly ended and all forces have been recalled. From the data collected it seems very unlikely that the other side was defeated.

>Angry parent – Director Burgess appeared, after a failed teleport attempt was registered he simply jumped down from above. He is very mad about how the administration handled the war.

>Dragon egg – The drones have been searching the first level of hell to locate a dragon, thus far they have located a ring of stone pillars containing a dome of fire and a tunnel filled with hostile humanoid amphibians that you have yet to explore. Despite continuing their search nothing more has been discovered in the lava filled wastes.

“My father is in the city?” Evangeline asks, she is surprised at his sudden appearance, but doesn’t doubt the reason.

This could be bad, but you are also mid interrogation here, looking back into the room you see the djinni noble covered in welts, it looks mostly superficial but still painful.

“Ah master! Look he says sorry now!” Ayla floats over and announces to you, “but what are we going to do with all the cuuuuute~ birds?”

Do all the phoenix things, contain the djinni and head home, sure.

Writing.

Also have some research suggestions if you want them.

Fusion ray - advanced laser based off your ability

Distributed neural computation - link researcher's subconscious minds boosting research

Stealth field - completely effective long distance camouflage / invisibility

Electromagnetic shields - attempt to deflect attacks via manipulation of electromagnetism

Selective materials - an alteration of the artifact bow's composition shifting to allow active choice in changing materials.

Research all the thing! Also, are the researchers making use of the learning program? Did we have the learning program updated to provide incentives based on species yet, or are they getting goblin stuff? do they like the program?
>>
>>42849631
Is it possible to have the military members on a different neural link to help improve their organization in combat?
>>
>>42849692
Under the guidance of Hestia and Marissa as co-head of research the researchers are using the learning program. They don’t like it much, especially now that it is also being used to teach the child slaves, the reward distribution system is still being tweaked to optimize its effectiveness. The curse of greed makes the shiny reward tokens desirable but the other rewards like spells are still wanted much more, few have Evangeline’s dedication to try and collect all the spells though.

>>42849892
Yes but goblins and imps would only be rank one implant mastery, tough choice on what to use. Some chatter has been mentioned on wanting VRP implanted into everyone under your commanded.
>>
“The group of phoenixes outside seems to like me, can we set up a place for them to stay in the goblin city and also create some sort of housing to attract the ones that fled back to the city here?” You ask Hestia.

“I have already constructed an aviary for the gryphons, pegasai, and Izulu,” She states, “I will need to study the phoenixes so that an effective means of attracting them can be established.”

“Is my father causing trouble?” Evangeline interjects, she actually likes the city now and doesn’t want it destroyed.

“I have discovered an effective means of distracting him for now,” Hestia cryptically states.

“Do you have drones in the area?” You ask Hestia, “I’d like to contain this djinni for questioning later.”

“Please be advised that teleport jammers seem to have no effect on Ayla’a ability, he may be able to escape containment,” Hestia tells you.

“No escaping until you answer all master’s questions ok?” Ayla glares at the djinni noble, apparently she heard you talking.

“Y-y-yes of course great one,” he continues to try to placate Ayla, while secretly plotting to try and kill you if ever alone with you.

You leave the djinni noble behind and start to leave, the phoenixes fly around you and a troop of drones float about the area scanning the outpost’s structure and preparing containment for the djinni.

There are shouts of surprise from the demons when you come back on your way to the mirror portals, they are curious where you found all the birds. Ignoring them for now you make your way to the palace.

Once everyone is through the portal you wait for a moment or two, then phoenixes start flying through after you, flashes of light signal the teleporter sending them away to the aviary for now.

“Bye bye master, I’ve got to go make a super cool show or two now after that!” Ayla grabs a phoenix before its teleported off, gives you a hug with two extra arms she grows and floats away.

Evangeline really isn’t jealous at all and wonders how long it would take to learn immunity to mind reading and asks, “so do you want me to come with you to talk with my father or not? You already know how he is misunderstanding things.”

“He is your dad, chances are he wants to see you anyways.”

“Yes you’re right, but I can’t go dressed like this,” Evangeline says.

A flash of light later and you are inside Evangeline’s quarters, she has several scrolls of spells she has earned but not learned yet sitting on a table.

“Just wait a second,” Evangeline runs off to another room, she was stripped down to just the form fitting interface suit and suddenly became self aware of it since you both are in her house.

While you wait you idly look around, there is nothing here at all. She is still sort of a prisoner but even so the house remains Spartan. The furniture is pushed aside to make space for exercise, only the holo system, a table, and a couch can be used. Being a bit nosey you look under the scrolls and see that Evangeline has made piles of notes to study, she has been trying to break past higher and higher levels of the learning program.

Nearly an hour later Evangeline comes back out freshly showered and in a simple white sun dress, she is trying to play up the cute daughter angle.

“Sorry that took so long, I’m ready to g-”

You are then teleported to outside a holo theater, you sense just one life inside so it must be the Director.

“-o,” Evangeline says, the teleport annoys her a bit, “I’m sure everything is fine.”

She seems to be trying to convince herself more than you.

Going into the theater you find a simulation in progress, it is untitled meaning Hestia is likely actively generating it.

In the simulation chamber you find Director Burgess fighting holographic constructs. Their vibroblades manage to cut him open, but only when a mass of them attack all at once. Even so it is little more than an annoyance to him since he just heals back no problem.

When he glances over towards you his anger fades at the sight of Evangeline.

“There is my little girl!” He suddenly destroys all the holograms instantly and runs over to spin Evangeline around.

She is ready this time and punches him as hard as she can. It obviously didn’t hurt him at all, but he still stops and rubs his cheek.

“Damn son, what the fuck are you feeding her? She hits harder than most of the limpdick faggots I’m stuck training,” that seemed to have kicked him back into his usual mood, but you notice you can’t read his mind at all.

“Language dad,” Evangeline sighs.

“I heard about that war, sounds like someone made you hold back,” you mention.

“Just thinking about it pisses me off,” Director Burgess says, “won’t let me fight, won’t let my lieutenants fight, just new recruits thrown to their death to gain combat experience. Absolute bullshit, and then we have to pull back and cede territory to some invaders.”

“But why did you come here?” Evangeline asks.

“What I can talk to my little girl? Too busy planning grandkids to see me?” He shoots back.

She turns red and is about to object when you ask, “there is something more though isn’t there?”

“Damn right. I did some digging, pissed off those research nerds a bit but, I found out that you’ve got a teleporter down here. So since you have no record you can do something for me, end the invasion.”

He’s put you on the spot here, do you want to get involved in some sort of interplanar dispute?

Also, tactical data, what are the invader like? Troop numbers. Also, would the "Jewel of the Western Front" be there?
>>
“So what was this war about anyways?” You ask.

“Just the usual, someone got their panties in a bunch over some ancient treaty no one gives a shit about and now we’ve got a Ghaele invasion on our hands.”

“Ghaele?” Evangeline asks, she’s never heard of them before.

“That’s right, strange people, they shift back and forth between looking like humans more or less and big spheres of color,” He ruffles Evangeline’s hair while he explains it to her.

“Stop that!” She tries to push him away to stop embarrassing her.

“Are their numbers that big?” You ask next.

“Just a small force of ten million or so,” Director Burgess says, ” what you really have to watch out for is that those tricky little fucks can banish you to the abyss.”

“Isn’t there some marquis that should be dealing with this?”

Evangeline rolls her eyes when you mention him.

“He up and vanished for a while that is when the Ghaele attacked, if he got captured you should free him otherwise a tactical strike on their commander should break their ranks and seed them running back home.”

“Anything else about these creatures we should know?” Evangeline asks.

“Sure darling, first thing is they are pretty good at magic, next they can kill evil things instantly, and lastly you are not going to fight them, it is too dangerous for you.”

Evangeline wants to protest and mention power armor but knows it will not change his mind.

“Any relevant tactical information?”

“Yea, don’t get banished. They are terraforming the area they took over so by the time you get there the terrain will be different than the recruits faced,” Director Burgess warns you, “so are you going to do this or not?”

He doesn’t seem to like all these questions and expects action soon no doubt.

Evangeline shrugs and thinks, “sorry, that is just how he is, we can catch up later.”

>Mission gained: End the Ghaele invasion.

“Could you make some weapons enchanted to cancel magic?” You ask the drone, “it could be useful to deal with these Ghaele creatures.”

“My databases do not have information on them, and a scan of the networks above has given less information than the Director just told you,” Hestia informs you, “as for weapons the cancellation spell is difficult to work with, I will prepare two sets for you.”

“Is Ayla still busy with her shows?” You ask next.

“She is currently filming, I will ask if she wants to go when she finishes.”

“With those holograms can you create an effective training program for more hands on applications that the learning program currently is unable to fulfill?”

“An interesting proposal,” Hestia thinks on it for nearly a second, “yes, I can modify the learning program’s evolutionary advancement to apply to a physical training program, rather than trying to duplicate old training methods.”

“Good, then everyone who is not going with me should be put into training,” you tell her, “perhaps make it simple enough for the children to benefit from it as well.”

“Utilization of a similar level and reward system should be sufficient motivators, but for the children I will not include weapon training for now.”

“That sounds good, I will ask around for more information while you prepare then,” you tell Hestia.

You depart and head over to the shamans’ temple, along the way you find the usual goblins cheering king and the imps chip ‘slayer of lords’ now. A few children are about here and there, most of them run away when they spot you still unsure what your intentions with them are but others smile and wave to you, they are happy to be free, even though school is totally worse than slavery.
>>
Once you arrive at the shaman’s temple you find it to be abandoned, normally there are goblins training magic scattered about everywhere. Inside you see the goblins pouring magic into a large vat of some sort of slightly magical liquid. Images of something ripple across the surface, it looks like some sort of divination ritual.

“Ah king, yous come to ask question?” The old blind goblin looks up at you, the shamans are happy to see you visiting.

“Yes, I have been asked to help end an invasion of Ghaele, do you know anything of them?” You ask.

“Tribe have tried to see creatures yous face, but is wrong, the magic absorbed,” the shamans say, “Tribe cannot help with this other to warn yous be careful.”

The goblins chat with you for a while about things they don’t seem willing to give up all their secrets just yet so you don’t push too hard, they do agree to look over non-goblins to see if they are worthy to be inducted into the tribe.

Walking through the city away from the shamans’ temple you find the succubus mage trying to non-obviously bump into you. After a few failed attempts at ‘spontaneously’ running into you she just walks up to talk.
>>
“Look, I heard about that marriage thing that long neck is trying for,” She says, “they are so gross, but she is right, if you take a couple demons for mates it would placate the others a bit.”

“I’m busy with other stuff right now is this really that important?” You ask her.

“Yes it is, there is always going to be unrest since you are human you’ve done good with that arena so far but look to the future. ”

“A future that includes succubi as a higher class because they claim a connection to me?”

“Exactly, now you’re thinking,” she gives you a wink, blows a kiss your way and wanders off again thinking she completed her goal.

A drone finds you a few moments after the succubus mage leaves.

“Preparations are complete, Ayla is still filming but wants to go, she will be available for back up if needed.”

You are teleported to the hanger, where an interface suit awaits you.

“I have been creating a catalog of weapons for power armor usage, she likes to look over it in its entirety to examine weapons for possible design flaws.”

You listen to her detail weapons while putting on the suit. Machinery whirs and locks a suit of armor around you. When the HUD lights you check the weapons.

Hours later at top speed you finally come to a break in the vast rolling plains. A vast dead forest is expanding from further west, new dead trees are sprouting and growing before your eyes. The inside of the forest is rather foreboding but you sense no life near the expanding edge. You can’t tell how large the forest is, but it appears to be expanding in a perfect circle.

You open the power armor’s cockpit for a moment to dump a bunch of probes out to use, and the stench of sulfur hits you. So you quickly reseal the armor.

You leave a probe with the hoverbike, Hestia can probably move it if the forest starts to engulf it, then head into the forest on foot.

You drop scanning probes in hidden locations within the twisting dead trees.

>38

You sense a group of three lives stalking through the forest. Shifting your armor into a denser group of trees you wait for what you sensed to appear on your suit’s HUD.

A man stalks through the forest alongside two canine like creatures.

They search the area looking for something, they start closing on your position.

The man makes some sort of gesture and a pulse of thought assails your mind.

>63 vs dc 45

You lets it wash past you without interacting with it. Some sort of magical detection of thoughts is what it feels like. The man keeps his focus on the spell for a few minutes before dropping it when one of the dogs scratches at a tree a ways away from you, one that you stashed a probe.

The man uses his spear to cut at the tree and finds the probe. The man seems placated by finding it and starts heading back deeper into the forest.

Looking over the data from the suit’s scanners you confirm that he used some sort of spell and that both he and the dogs detect as being very magical.

Following at a distance is laughably easy; the power armor simply floats just barely off the ground while prone. The dogs can’t even detect you moving after them.

Soon the man comes to a walled encampment sheltered in the dead trees, you detect thousands of lives here. He shows the probe to guards and they are surprised but don’t know what it is. They open the gate to let him in and he vanishes inside with the dogs.

The gate guards return to guards, you notice now that all these people are strongly trained to resist mind reading. They don’t seem to be psychic but that hunter did just use a spell to try and read your mind. Reaching out deeper into the camp you find there are those will less shielded minds, but they seem to be civilians.

You are forced to hide in the trees again as a carriage arrives. A group of nobles are inside trying to please someone. The one they are trying to gain favor with has a mind that is heavily shielded, it feels more like the marquis did, an unnatural shielding possibly an enchantment.

From the nobles you come to learn that this shielded mind is known as the black merchant, someone who was granted authority to sell these newly taken lands on behalf of their leader.

You have enough distance to the camp that the guards will not notice if you assault the carriage.

3d15+24 to pull this off.

Try to mind control somethings too?

The encampment’s walls are not that high, you should be able to float the armor right over without even having anyone notice your actions. Sticking to the tree for cover, you avoid the traps that have been scattered about in the in the forest and quickly reach the wall.

You pause for a moment and one at a time try to convince everyone to release any prisoners. You find out quickly that there are no prisoners. So you try to get them to abandon orders and head home to be with family. Other than the guards most of them have no orders, they are colonizing this area so this is their home.

This is a bit distressing so you make a few animals cause a bit of a ruckus here and here to make a distraction and slip over the wall.

Once you clear the wall you catch sight of something disturbing, the heads of humans are impaled on stakes along all the main paths between the buildings. Small shop stalls are butchering human corpses to cook and sell to customers. You didn’t pick up any of this as at all because the people genuinely think this is perfectly normal.

You look into the minds of the civilians a bit deeper to try and locate the leader here. Most of them think of the mayor to their immediate leader so the large central building seems to be the consensus.

>59

Sticking to the shadows and pushing the civilians’ minds away when needed you manage to maneuver the power armor to the mayor’s building.

Inside a group of guards are watching over a meeting, between the town’s mayor and who seems to be the black merchant, that is just starting. The mayor also has some sort of mind shielding artifact, you can tell he is there but if would take focused effort to overcome the effect.

You are not sure how much longer you can remain undetected here.

Have the guards feel immense remorse and guilt over everything they have killed in the past. Make them want to find forgiveness for such, and balance their karma.

There are only six guards so this is a good chance to catch them by surprise.

You look around the building for alternate entrances, a large window on the upper floor easily opens with some telekinesis and checking first to make sure no one is watching you dart inside. Avoiding the bed and other furniture in the bedroom you will the window shut behind you and carefully contort your way through the bedroom door.

The upper floor has rooms arranged around an opening to the floor below through which a chandelier hangs. Looking down below you see the meeting taking place, the mayor sits behind a desk looking over papers while the guards stand at attention along the sides of the room. Floating before the mayor is a large black sphere, you can sense it is alive so it must be the black merchant.

You lift the mayor and guards away from the ground and hold the sphere in place to prevent any resistance and drop down into the room from above. The guards are clearly shocked by your sudden arrival but all the guards, the mayor and the black merchant all respond instantly with the same idea: lightning a lot of lightning.

>>
>>42856259
Fortunately, we are immune to lightning! That could have been messy!
>>
(2/2)

The power armor being immune to electricity, ignores their attack completely. Arcs of lighting strike you and everyone else, they don’t seem to have been injured either though.

“Now that I have your attention, I have some questions for you all,” You tell them.

Your captives struggle against their invisible bonds, but are held tight.

“We have driven your kind from these lands, you have no power here,” the mayor says and casts a spell.

A familiar looking type of demon appears, ready to kill to fulfill the summoning.

Well this sucks but the next thread will need to be Wednesday around 12 EST.
If things clear up I’ll try for Sunday.
Feel free to suggest implants, research and/or design plans if you want to.
I’ll stick around for a little bit questions/comments/criticism/spending exp.

>Ability updates

Incorporeality: Rank 7
You can become blurred and insubstantial, using the ability may cause attacks to pass through you harmlessly. (50% chance) You can sometimes pass through solid objects. Higher ranks in this ability may have additional effects.

Elemental Avatar: Rank 7
Earth control expands to include crystals, sound control expands to infra and ultra sonic frequencies.
>>
>>42857800
Crystals, huh? Interesting...
Maybe we should wait until max on this ability to work on hestia's new parts.
We might be able to use elemental avatar combined with scavenging and/or poofing shit into existence to make perfect crystals or something far better to use.

Is there some effect lowering our damage output? Our Damage from Elemental Avatar is listed as 70, but our base damage is listed as 59, which is lower.
>>
>>42859361
The status effect of my bad updating skills.

Nice catch fixed.

I feel like I should give you something special, I'll think about it.
>>
Hey guys, let's plan things out for next thread.

I notice that Giant Form is sitting at a paltry rank 3. Imagine maxing that out, and then Izulu learning it from us. Giant Giant Thunderbird anyone?

Total Badass also grants +1 to all rolls for only 30 exp per rank. To level a stat enough to give +1 to only related rolls costs 40 exp. Notably, we also heal more HP than we can carry, and Total Badass also increases our max HP, and myriad other combat stats that are otherwise hard to increase. I think this should be a priority.

Elemental Avatar is a given, of course (Insane skill, seriously).

What do you guys think should be a priority? Maxing stats? Some skill I haven't mentioned?
>>
>>42859786
>>42859786
I'd prefer to hit max in elemental avatar, and hit 100 in all of our stats.
>>
>>42859786
This seems mostly solid. Trying to get all stats to atleast 100 would be cool, altough not exactly an urgent priority.
I would like to increase Familiar as it increases the stats of our familiars by a percentage of our stats, currently 1%, higher ranks will obviously have higher percentages, and it would be cool to have a companion that grows almost as fast as we do.
