Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
The ride to King’s Landing had been blessedly short, comparably to the others, as your retinue was smaller though not by much. Ser Mason and Dontos both rode alongside you this time, the latter insisting his second, Jonos, would make a suitable castellan while you were away, it was hardly the first time he need do so. You attached yourself to a train of tradesmen, mummer’s and other assorted travelers into King’s Landing and enjoyed small audiences and meals with the leads, and heard promises of stopping by Steadhold after the Tourney was done. Things you doubted, but increased trade coming through was hardly a bad thing to hear word of.

The majority of the trip though you had to keep face, and thus was the agony of the trek, your ‘spar’ with your Uncle had left a nasty bruise that had yet to go away near your rib cage. Riding was difficult at times, and Benjin had attended to you more than once to soothe the pain. For his part Dontos seemed ashamed, not having spoken to you much since the incident, and worry tinged his face when he was you flinch away from the spot. Though his beating had spoken to you on every level, it still had not dissuaded the idea of a trial by combat away from your mind. You had done little to prepare a defense and knew less of law than you really ought, Benjin spoke to this to some degree but even he felt his knowledge lacking. It was a trial of pettiness, no doubt the Queen would have those upon the Crown’s teat herded into the chamber to give testimony to your slights, of your character, of anything to gain her favor. You had only yourself and the partial secret support of the Hand it would seem. A trial by combat seemed the only way.
>>
You had awoken early the morning the summons came to your villa, a young page in Lannister colors delivering them as you attended to the horses with Victus, a small activity of your past he still enjoyed. There were many horses in the stables, those of the Sons, your Knight’s, and various others. Not to mention the twenty others that had been brought for sale and gifts. Your brow had furrowed with the mere mention of summons to court and had hardly relented in the days hence. Tomorrow loomed large in your mind, and you attempted to push it out with sparring matches against Ser Wesley and Mason. Dontos had come to watch, and flinched away the first time he saw you take a flat blade against your side that nearly winded you. Mason had helped you to the corner of the yard to catch your breath before moving on with Wesley to jousting practice, both intending upon entering.

“Nephew,” Dontos begins, bluntly, to the point as was typical.

“Yes Dontos?” you respond, staring out into the field, a tinge of anger in your voice.

“I gathered Victus, I would like to travel into King’s Landing and eat with my family before the trial,” he continues simply.

You turn and eye him oddly, he rarely called Victus family, let alone wanting to include him in activities, “As you wish Uncle. Have you other plans?”

“A few nephew. Can you ride?”
>>
“Well enough, for now,” you say, gathering yourself and skipping over the fence to his side, Victus is rounding the villa leading Goldsong and your Uncle’s Penance, as well as his little pony he enjoyed riding. You mount up with a small degree of effort and ride into the city, Dontos speaks to the history of King’s Landing to your son’s attentive ears. He names a few of the Houses when he’s asked, knowing your grandmother’s of Manning and a few of the lesser known Houses of the Crownlands. You eat a simple yet filling meal near the docks, Dontos speaking to you and prodding into the details of your injury. His face shifts from concern to anger to its usual broodiness as you speak further of the trial. Leading into the market district after you find yourself assaulted by the warmth of the forge and the pangs of hammer on metal, the hissing of a quench.

“Nephew, if you are insisting upon this trial, and then entering the melee I would see you outfitted… better,” Dontos says. He is trying, trying so hard to find a middle ground with you, he disapproves but still wishes you to see things through. Your decisions are that of his Lord, but also of his kin. He wished for the same ends as you, just different means. Your thoughts are washed when he continues, “King’s Landing is home to the finest smiths in the Seven Kingdoms, Victus, whatever you would need you may find here.”

Your son nods along and you interrupt, “But what of the price of them Uncle?”
>>
Dontos fixes you with a level gaze, before dismounting outside of a large shop, you following suit, he reads between your lines and draws to your side to continue, “Small Brynden. I ask one thing. We are hard headed, stubborn, sons of a Malroy. But we find a way to speak on the field, even if it is through the brutality of kin on kin,” he stops and picks up a shield, eyeing it before placing it back, “I wish to see you succeed Brynden. So I ask you to learn. Allow me to teach. Fight like a Knight in plate, fight like a sellsword in your brigandine if you must, but I wish for you to learn. But only one can learn when outfitted with the best.”

The shopkeeper had come to you during this, and begins to chatter away at Dontos, seeming an old friend, he nods your way. And he begins to inspect your being before continuing at Dontos. He nods and he aways to find an aid and a measure.

“You are a Lord, Brynden. Not a sellsword in Essos, allow this as my repayment for wrongs done, and give me your word you will learn.”

Very well. Let him have this. We also promised Victus some better clothes the next time we visited Kings Landing with him so we should probably also do a visit to that seamtress

And her daughter
>>
>>42834538
>>Accept Dontos’ offer
>>
You clap a hand on your Uncle’s shoulder and look him in the eyes, “You have my word then Dontos. If that is your price.”

Dontos deflates a bit from the pressure you apply to his shoulder and then nods to the smith and his assistant to come over. They ask you questions of size, particular wants, any sort of details you may desire. There are some talks of golden inlay, black plate not unlike that of which Dontos wears, a cape of a royal purple if they can manage to find something of suitable quality. Again you flinch when the smith wraps the measuring band around your chest and then your side. And disrobing to try on a suit of under padding draws a look of wide eyed terror from Victus, having being unaware of the sheer size of the bruise. He had been torn and upset when he heard of the spar with your Uncle, he didn’t understand why it had to come to such lengths. Spars between the Sons was normal, but that was a step beyond his scope of knowledge. It had scared him to see you limp about the week after and Dontos had withdrawn himself in shame leaving the poor boy alone to cope with his feelings of the matter.
>>
This was partially why Dontos had agreed to come, you wished for Victus to see King’s Landing without the air of despair and ruin you had experienced upon your return. To see the wonders of it all. And to cheer the boy. Your Uncle had relented easily, perhaps too much so for your liking, but all the same they were here. Giving the smith a few more notes to work with you go to his weapons rack and find a longsword that fits to your grip much like your old one. It was a tattered and worn thing, seeing you through a few years of sellsword use, not suitable for combat any longer. Dontos insisted after you look into shields, even though it would ruin your balance nearly entirely, but he countered with the plate mail liking doing that in spades regardless. It was better to learn everything from square one he continued and you allowed it, picking a shield of oak with iron bandings. Being contented with this Dontos paid the smith and you were off with your new acquisitions. Victus chattered away happily about a dagger you had agreed to purchase for him that now hugged to his side, Dontos having to more than once remind him it was not a toy.

“Thank you nephew,” Dontos says as you trot about the market district, you spy for a moment the seamstress’s shop and make a mental note to take Victus there as an excuse to visit. You had promised him a new set of clothing anyway.

“For what Uncle?”

“For accepting… I had worried. I know not the manners of court and the intrigues beyond them. I am a Knight, one loyal to his family and wishing for nothing but the best, but a Knight all the same. War is what I know.”

“That and more Dontos. Do not worry, we will see this mended, even if need of striking one another with sword is needed to do so.”
>>
Your Uncle smiles for a moment before begging leave, he wished to take Victus to the Great Sept of Baelor. You wish them well off, and the two trot away the opposite direction of the villa, the small trip you finish alone. Solhas greets you at the gate with a stern and serious look upon his face. Cocking your head to one side you dismount and he draws you near, “I am glad to see you come home alone Brynden. You have a vistor.”

The Summer Islander escorts you to the same small room where you met Ser Hogg a few months prior and you find Cecilia, the seamstress’s daughter awaiting you her eyes red from tears and a hand upon her stomach. Rickard Wence stood by her, the attendant to your villa while you were away and comes to you before you can react, speaking it your ear with a hushed tone.

“My Lord. The young lady has been coming to the villa once a week since missing her second moon’s blood. She believes she’s pregnant and insists… Well she insists it is yours. I would not have allowed her to stay had we not seen her leave before,” he finishes in a hurry attempting to not offend. Your eyes widen to this news and you meet hers, the timing made sense, though you had little idea of how often the girl slept with patrons. Her shyness and meek nature would seem to indicate it was rarely but still it casted doubt as she had not been a maiden upon your first encounter.

>How would you like to handle this?
>>
Just as a note, I left this up entirely to chance, it was a one in eight chance. And well, here you go. And to anyone wondering, no the other one isn't pregnant, she's a whore she knows what Moon Tea is.
>>
>>42834969
In a calmly fashion. Take her to our study and talk to her in private. Inform her that when the child is born and it is without a doubt ours we will make sure the child is taken care of by supporting her with gold.
>>
>>42834969
Get her to drink a cop of moon tea? Just I don't know. And of course the captcha is baby carriages.
>>
>>42834969
Well fuck me. If it is ours I guess we have to at least support her. Fuck is Dontos going to be mad, we don't have to recognize her right?
>>
>>42835050
>>42835002

Pretty much this.
>>
>>42834969
get her a cup of Foreign (moon) tea & tell her that when we return in 2-3 months and she is in fact pregnant we shall discuss what to do.

also Is there the possibility of getting some fancy foreign Armour to expand on our sell-sword persona?
>>
>>42835098
We just got an upgrade. Think we should wait with that.
>>
>>42835050
You do not have to recognize her, no. In fact it's possible to hide this from Dontos if you wished, only Rickard, Solhas and yourself know presently.

Alright see some support for either side, throw it to a vote.

>Agree to support the child when it is born, if you can verify it is yours
>Send someone out to find Moon Tea and give it to her

For the first option recognizing the child will come later.

Why not ? Come one come all.
>>
>>42835144
>>Agree to support the child when it is born, if you can verify it is yours

Hell I think we should recognize it even.
>>
>>42835193
>>42835199
are you trying to kill our uncle?
>>
>>42835235
Nah. It wont kill him. He might be a bit annoyed. But we promised him we would try to improve so he will hopefully and most likely forgive us
>>
Alright going to call it here. Looks like we're going to be expected another bastard child in the future. On that pathway to become Robert Jr.

As I said, recognizing the child will come later. For now you'll send the girl off with some coin and have to come back to it in seven months or so.

However, you do have the option of telling Dontos of this now, or you can hide it from him. Spoiler, either way he won't exactly be pleased. Not leave forever pissed, that's unfair, but still a bit annoyed.

So one more vote on it:

>Tell Dontos now?
>Hide this from Dontos?
>>
>>42835315
>Hide this from Dontos?

Tell him after the trial. He got enough things to worry about.

I don't think any other GoT protagonist had this many fuck ups. Brynden you the real winner.

He's gonna be pissed either way just tell him now.

>>42835358
>I don't think any other GoT protagonist had this many fuck ups. Brynden you the real winner.

It is kinda refreshing for me really. The other GoT MC's kinda blend together to me. Gives him a bit of character.

>>Tell Dontos now?
>>
A pang of guilt strikes at your heart, you had taken the girl in lust in between bouts of anger over Ser Wilson, wild abandon not caring for the repercussions of your actions. And it spelled as much on her face. She hid away in the corner of the room, eyes puffy with old tears hands wringing into her dress so hard her knuckles turnt white. You sigh and your serious visage falters to one of concern, there was a child in the mix now, though not born of love like Victus, it was still your own blood. Supposedly at least. Turning to Rickard’s ear you whisper back, “Find the girl some gold. Enough to support her until the pregnancy is over. If we can verify after that the child is mine I will support it.”

The house attendant nods and dares not ask you further question, leaving the room in a quick motion. Solhas stands quiet to your side and watches as you scrunge the brow of your nose between your fingers, “Solhas… When Dontos arrives. Bring him here. He will be furious, but not so much so if I hid it from him.”

His eyes look to the young girl that shrinks in fear of the giant of a man and he nods to you, “Yes Brynden. I will give you a moment,” he leaves the room softly easing the door behind him.
>>
You turn to find Cecilia has rushed across the room and wrapped herself around you in a tight embrace, one of fear and unknowing, her tears fresh again, and you allow her the moment, crying herself out. You need be firm, the idea of recognizing the child sat in your mind, but not as of yet. You sit her down and explain the circumstances and attempt to pry from her if she had slept with any others in the general time, of which she adamantly denies. She sits in her chair wringing her hands through her dress for the better part of this, yourself on the table before hearing a knock on the door and see Dontos entering.

“Brynden… What is this?”

“Dontos, before anything. Let me explain-”

His eyes turn from you to the girl and her hands kept tightly over her stomach before launching them back into your own, “Brynden. By the Seven, do you not think with any head but that below your pants!”

You flinch at the storm of his rage, his fist clenches, “Uncle, what is done is done. I will do right by this-”

“And bring another bastard into our House!”

You stand quiet, not sure how to answer, his chest heaves with lose of breath, the girl behind you silent in fear. You’ve no response but breaking eye contact with him, your looks serving you little against your Uncle.

“I… I can’t right now Brynden. I am leaving. Do not send for me,” and with that he turns and leaves. The door slamming behind him, leaving the room quiet and your thoughts empty. Solhas enters moments after with a purse and a cloak for the girl and you bid him escort her to her home. You slump into a chair after and draw a finger across the grain of the table. Your thoughts churned. The trial came to the forefront again and you sighed into the palm of your hand. Gathering yourself you leave for bed and fall to a restless sleep.

>>42835790
>>42835808

Not likely you'll find out. Word on such things is kept relatively quiet.

In regards to your defense, what defense? There's a reason I'm still assuming a trial by combat is the answer to the courts accusations. Pretty much nothing that has been said in past discussions of it will counter the amount of 'evidence' they'll bring to the table. You don't know law, and Benjin only knows locally. You're in King's Landing, a Valyrian House, and still down in the mud, how many allies do you really think you have?
>>
>>42835878
We could ofcours appeal to Robert over how his wife completely walked over his own judgement making him look henpecked. But yeah, This is going to end in Trial by Combat.
>>
>>42835878
I think it's time for us to fight for our lives.

This quest is certainly much harder than others of its kind, and I like that. It feels much truer to ASOIAF.
>>
>>42835925
I completely agree
>>
>>42835925
I dont think the trial by combat will be to the death. Can also just be to the yield.
>>
“If I may introduce your Grace. The Lord Brynden Malroy. Come before us in answer to summons of his trial. His charges? Slander of the Crown, her royal family, and those that serve it. How do you plead my Lord?”

“Not guilty,” you respond. The only voice among the silence of the assembled onlookers. You stood upon a small pedestal, the Queen sits before you the Hand to her opposite and the Iron Throne empty.

“As it is then my Lord. The Crown may call her first witness.”

The flood of those ready to speak against your good name hardly seems ready to wait their turn. You spy colors of the Crownlands abound, those of lowly Knights, servants, Gold Cloaks, everything. They trip over one another to speak the same repeat messages. Of your calling to question the honor of Ser Jaime Lannister with veiled word. Of arguing with the Queen in such a manner to imply disrespect of her station and her grounds to make decisions regarding the realm. Gold Cloaks spoke of the sellswords you brought to port, your near refusal to surrender your weapons, every minute detail.
>>
Ser Preston Greenfield takes the stand and speaks to your disrespect to his station in your questioning him and his purpose. And recounts the near incident on the port much the same as the guards. As well as making mention of your actions the day after. He looks to you with a sneer as he finishes and walks off, white helmet tucked under his arm. He knew, there was no way he did not know of what your intentions were. All of the Kingsguard did, at least the other four assembled. You did not spy Ser Selmy nor the blonde from before. But the others awaited behind the Queen, in quiet wait, hand rested upon pommel.
“Calling next to the stand, Ser Wilson Celtigar!”

The hair on the back of your neck raises and you turn to regard the man that you had denied months prior. He dare not look you in the eyes, but he looked haggard, his plate half the shine it once was. Taking the stand, he begins to speak of your intentions. To throw the debt of your House upon his own, in taking hostage his sister in the process. Of your words against the Crown in your small talks after, your threats to make him comply. You felt a heat rise in your eyes as the man lied, unable to maintain eye contact with anyone else. Attempting to save his own skin in some manner. He is dismissed and the parade continues.

The day wears on and finally the King appears, his manner is slow and he takes his seat with a slump after being announced. He waves the herald on and buries his face into his palm. Boredom, likely that of disinterest, perhaps born of argument regarding the trial in the first place. But from whom you’ve little idea. Lord Arryn sits watching you carefully, and the Queen sits with a look of vengeance but hidden behind the mask of royalty. Fucking Lannisters.

It seems mid afternoon by the time the herald calls to you once again, your legs half asleep from standing so long, “My Lord. Your defense?”

“I have no defense herald,” you respond in quiet level tone, staring daggers into the man that seems to shrink as your voice echoes throughout the room. A slight murmur arises and you stand in quiet a moment longer.

“M-my Lord? You, erm what?” he asks. The King has stirred from his boredom and now eyes you from head place upon fist.

“I have seen enough of this farce herald. Had I known this would extend so long I would have simply made my intentions known from the beginning, saved us all the time,” you say, not breaking eye contact until the last word before swinging it to the Queen. You glimpse Lord Arryn with a small smile and the Queen’s turnt to that of a heated hatred, “I’ve seen more truth in the ‘sellswords’ I keep company with. No herald. As I said before, I have no defense. I demand a Trial by Combat.”

The onlookers break into an uproar, you had the right, every bit of a right. Your eyes turn to the King that had now sat up in his seat looking rather interested, Lord Arryn spoke to him and nodded, the Queen seemed to be fuming in her wrath. The herald attempts to calm the noise to little success, it is not until the King stands and booms “QUIET!” that they finally settle into a stark silence.
>>
“My Lord, as is your right to demand a Trial by Combat so is it the right of the Crown to choose her Champion your grace?” he turns to face the Queen, almost disregarding the King entirely, drawing him a look that almost buckles the man.

She stands, golden locks cascading over her shoulders a beautiful youth hung about her, but was ruined by the pettiness and vindictive nature, “As my brother, Ser Jaime Lannister will be competing tomorrow to uphold the honor of my name in the Joust, I will name Ser Boros Blount as my champion.”

Ser Boros Blount? Those lackwit cowards managed to get someone into the Kingsguard? The man behind her kneels clumsily and accepts his duty. You regarded him with disdain born of years past. The Blounts held little like for your House, it was in fact their Horse your ancestor Ser Aeson had stolen and added to his ranks, and their land he took to make his own. They were nothing but petty Kings in the past, and now petty cowards of a House that hated your own. Of course they would petition to fight yourself, but still the mere fact remained of how. It baffled you.

“My Lord, who will fight as your Champion?”

Your mouth still hung ajar from the mention of House Blount, but attempted word for a moment, “Herald I will name-”

“I will,” a loud booming voice calls from the back of the court cutting you off entirely you turn almost half in shock, Dontos stood in his armor, the black shining against evening sun, “I Ser Dontos Malroy will Champion my brother’s son’s cause.”

>Allow him?

>>42836358
"Your faith in me warms my heart Uncle, I would gladly accept you as my Champion"
>>
Your Uncle walks down the hall and to your side, his dark armor standing in such a contrast to that of the Kingsguard it made him seem a looming shadow. A fitting sight given the sat of the current Kingsguard if a Blount made it to such heights. He does not give you any look, rather keeping his eyes upon Ser Boros, still knelt behind the Queen. You turn to them again and continue, “I will name my Uncle, Ser Dontos Malroy, the greatest Knight to ever grace House Malroy since the days of Ser Landor the Burnt and a true paragon of Knightly excellence as my Champion.”
You almost see a beam in your Uncle’s face to your words, his pride done well for once, his intentions need not be spoken. You knew his dislike for the Kingsguard in its present state, but doubted it was to such extents as to draw him to the trial after the night prior. There was something more that of which you did not know.

“As it is then my Lord. The Trial by Combat shall open the Tourney upon the morrow. May the Seven lend themselves to the innocent.”

The crowd begins its clamor again, and you turn to Dontos who has not slacked in his posture since coming to your side, “Dontos… had not thought. You do me the greatest of honors.”

“I would do the House more, Brynden. I could not stand by knowing you injured from my own hand. I brought you home, it is my duty to protect you.”

“But after-”

“We will speak of that later, nephew. We have a Trial. I have a promise to uphold,” he finally turns and regards you fully, “The mistakes of youth can be forgiven in the eyes of the Seven, Brynden. I have yet to find my forgiveness entirely, should this trial speak further than that of your innocence.”
>>
You nod, not knowing the words to give, Dontos had always been pious but it seemed to be drawing him in further with every coming day. Not a thing you held against him, as his faith was your own, but it seemed almost disconcerting.

“I will need to prepare. Send Victus to bed early, we will make leave in before dawn” he turns to leave, acknowledging a look from a young woman with an uncomfortable glance away, and throws to you before leaving off, “I do not forget my anger. But may it be placed elsewhere. Good day Brynden.”

You deflate a bit finally coming down from the pedestal, Mason comes to your side, and offers you an arm to lean on, which you refuse and you leave from the throne room. The many onlookers pass you by as you rest upon a window ledge looking out across the Narrow Sea.

“My Lord? If I may interrupt you,” an unfamiliar voice calls. Two Knights stand before Mason who is holding them at arm’s length, “We have want to speak to you my Lord. Not of harm. My brother had sent a message for me to deliver.”

One of the Knight’s has the head of a ram as his sigil, which seems familiar but not enough to call to attention, the other a blood red seahorse of seafoam green, almost that of House Velaryon but not quite.

“Brynden?” Mason asks, the two knights looking somewhat put off by your friend’s demeanor, you had come to trust Knight’s slightly less after the incident with Ser Wilson. Further by his actions today, if you found that man upon the field in the melee…

“Allow them word Ser Mason,” you respond and give them full attention. The red seahorse knight has a head of silver blonde hair and you give it an odd look to which he smiles.

“My Lord, my name is Ser Lucas Longwaters of House Longwaters. My friend, Ser Haldan Rambton, in service of mine own,” he says with a certain swagger. That of youth, almost like a sellsword, or a Knight found himself low by circumstance not by choice and over compensating for such fact. He continues, “My elder brother, Ser Jon Longwaters, had wish to speak with you my Lord. As we understand it, the other Valyrian Houses are on… Poor terms with your own. Not unlike mine own, forgotten as we are.”

The Rambton Knight nods along, his tussle of brown hair bouncing along with it, he seemed more the straight man of the two knights. No likely older than yourself it would seem, “And of what did he wish to speak Ser Lucas?”

“Of simple things my Lord. Matters of trade, that of horse, of iron. Alliances. Marriages. Things that bore myself to tears. But he finds more than important now. given his young son and marriage,” Ser Lucas shrugs, “I had personally wished to speak to you of your Melee in the coming months. Myself and Ser Haldan take a greater interest in such things, isn’t that right?”
>>
Ser Haldan grunts in response and Ser Lucas smiles to you. You knew the Rambton’s at least enough to know they were sworn to Sunglass, a bannerhouse of Dragonstone and by extension the Baratheons. But the Longwaters, so small they were in your mind you hardly could call to attention the details of their House.

“My Lord, we would not waste your time, further. My brother ask me deliver message and hoped for your appearance tomorrow while watching the Tourney,” Lucas says with a bow.

>Anything to ask Ser Lucas Longwaters?
>Information about his House, himself, his brother’s intentions, speak to him of your melee, etc.
>>
>>42836888
>>Information about his House, himself, his brother’s intentions, news of me rejecting being the Celtigars toy has been spread it seems.
>>
So, missed the rest of this thread, gotta say unless they child the bastard has silver hair I wouldn't recognize it and just quietly support it. They'll learn a perfectly acceptable trade eventually, we don't know for SURE it's ours (the silver hair would make it completely obvious of course) and frankly we're not in a very good spot there's a non-zero chance our house will be completely wiped out in the next few years. If they DO have silver hair they'd get hit with a bunch of targ-hate in king's landing though and it'll blatantly be ours, bad luck you know, when people are actively TRYING to get pregnant it takes an average of three months!
>>
>>42836888
Ask him about himself and his brothers intentions also about what he thinks about the whole Celtigar business.
>>
>>42836888
So how small are they in the scheme of things that we hardly remember them?

Will we be busy during the joust with a different part of the tourney/I don't think we have any prior commitments?
>>
>>42836961
Dont think the events will take part at the same time. So that wont be a problem.
>>
>>42836961
The Longwaters are such a small House I've had to almost entirely write everything about them presently. I actually forgot they exist until I was researching the Crownlands. Even their sigil I had to make up, but given their history it makes sense.

And no you don't have any prior engagements. Though some will come up.
>>
>>42836961
Remember that waters is the surname bastards get. Sometimes the legitimate children of bastards are known to take a name that's a compound of the local bastard surname and another word like that, so ultimately their name serves as advertisement to everyone that they're descended from a bastard. That's... not going to make them the most popular.
>>
>>42836992
Eh may as well hear them out and get the message then. With any luck they're at least reasonably skilled so we can grab them.
>>
“Ser Lucas, I’m afraid you have me an a disadvantage and it shames me to ask, but my time in Essos has burnt much of my memory of House of the Crownlands.”

“No matter my Lord. The Longwaters are often called the forgotten House of Valyria by the others, no doubt we would have been by yours as well, no offense Lord Malroy,” he says standing fully from his bow, “A House born of a bastard, though one of dragon and seahorse, so one with the old blood of Valyria in its veins. Ser Jon Waters, my ancestor was the first, his son a trueborn heir, became the first Longwaters. Knights of renown the both of them. Their history is what gave my House their little island off of Driftmark. I can only hope to bring such glory to the name.”

He speaks proudly of a name hardly off from that of a bastard, but his little speech joggles your memory a degree, you remembered his name at least, knew they were of Donold’s age, and that Ser Lucas and Jon were twin brothers. The blood red sea horse took the red of the Targaryen Dragon, the field of seafoam from the Velaryons. Some would be insulted by such a display but no doubt their small status kept them safe. You doubted the Rebellion had even touched them overly much if both brothers still lived.

“And of yourself Ser Lucas?”

“A thing I would not wish to bore you with my Lord. I am a Knight, squired in Driftmark alongside Ser Haldan here. I wish for glory. I fight for the honor of my House. I am a man of simple drive my Lord,” he responds smirking.
>>
“Though a well informed one Ser Lucas, I had not thought word of my dealings with the Celtigars had traveled so far,” you say, standing and taking a few steps to the steel clad men.

“Information travels as a ripple in the water does my Lord. Especially that in King’s Landing. Your spurning of Lord Ardrian surprised many. He is rather powerful now it would seem. Though I cannot speak to such myself. They thought my House... ‘unnecessary’ in their little schemes. Pity,” Lucas shurgs and the smirk does not disappear from his lips. He’s up to something but perhaps in the most honest way possible.

“Ser Lucas. What are your brother’s intentions?” you ask bluntly, wanting to the point from his younger brothers games.

“Intentions? Nothing but of which I spoke my Lord. He has married, to a noblewoman of Volantis. And we have freed ourselves from the yoke of debt as imposed by the Crown. Yet owe another elsewhere. Jon sees a kindred spirit of sorts in yourself my Lord.”

Ser Haldan whispers something to Lucas and he frowns at the other Knight, “My Lord, it would appear I need be off. Do consider my brother’s offer. We would rather enjoy your company tomorrow.”

Bowing again Ser Lucas Longwaters strides off with the same swagger as his voice, Ser Haldan Rambton in a stalking fashion of a warrior.

“That was odd Brynden,” Mason adds watching them off, his hand still not having left his mace.

“More than, Mason, more than,” you say with a shake of your head, “Come let us be off.”

Deciding the day had enough sunlight for a few moments about the city you return to your family’s villa and pick up Victus, along with Ser Victor and Ser Duncan that had been getting antsy sitting about with nothing to do but practice. They had both intended upon fighting in the melee and had finished bashing in each other’s heads about twenty times a piece by the time you came and collected them. They thirsted for drink and you made a small stop eating dinner with your Knights their squires and your son. For a man not quite out of the clear yet you seemed in better spirits than one would imagine, though it was mostly done to hold yourself together. Dontos was putting a lot on the line doing this, if he died, if he failed, that left only yourself to bring the House back from the brink. It worried you he seemed so willing to sacrifice himself.

Having finally decided to make good on a promise to Victus you bring him to the market district and to another, very different seamstress to get him some clothing of a proper page and squire. He followed her orders with glee and when asked of prefered colors he always spoke of those of your House, but often in reverse, purple over the black. He even had a thing for a little red thread that laced about his neck, something you did not deny him. The boy seemingly content with his decisions finished and you paid the older woman, requesting the garments be ready for tomorrow morning and delivered. A small request fulfilled with coin.

As you return to the villa a final time for the day, you find Dontos not about the Household, told he had left some time earlier and asked not to be followed. You wished to speak with him but if that was the distance he asked you respected it. Victus was soon off to bed, told of his importance in tomorrow’s affairs and why he need go asleep before his father.
>>
And while your mind wanted of sleep your body was restless, into the night you stood across the archery range, driving arrow after arrow into the center mark of the target. Your mind focused on the task at hand, rather than the mystery tomorrow could bring. Before long you found your aim off, going hard left, and decided it best to finally rest your weary body. Thought to that of a night of passion crossed your mind before being banished by the disapproving glares of your Uncle. Your eyes fall quickly to sleep and you tumble into a night of restless sleep.

Chapter IX, Part ii - Dontos

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QwFNaH08Ch1wQeVBc7EYSeXBeSaXxdcHW9jlAWxKY20/edit?usp=sharing

“Father I ask your guidance in my seeking of Justice.”

The sound of a lash upon flesh rings in the hollow room.

“Warrior carry my arm to that of victory.”

Another.

“Smith, I ask you guidance in completion of my task.”

Another.

“Crone, I thank you for your wisdom.”

Another.

“And may the Stranger remain as such.”

A final lash. You bind a wrap about your leg, fresher than the one that laid with crusted blood to your side. The Great Sept gave you silence, peace of mind, enough to turn away from the trials of your House, to that of promises long since held, your faith reminded you of what you were born to do.

“Ser Dontos? I brought the boy as requested.”

“Thank you Septon Harkness.”

“I live to serve good Ser. May the Light of the Seven be shone upon you today,” the septon anoints your head and you bow it to him in respect.

“Squire are you ready?”

“Yes Ser Dontos,” the boy responds, he carries a package. Items of your usual request, of need before riding, or of combat. He knew them well by now.
>>
Dawn has barely broken, you travel upon Penance to where the Tourney will be held, the smallfolk go by quietly only a few having left their homes by now. Victus follows after you, proud on his little pony his clothing new, no doubt your nephew’s work, “Squire, who do we pray to for guidance in completion of a task?”

“The Smith.”

“Very good.”

-A few hours later-

The crowd roared, your mind was nothing but focus, they merely a buzz. Across the field a fool in white gold armor, mounting a horse of inferior breed, a man of inferior worth. Victus stood to your side, holding your lance as best he could, you relieve him of the burden and shrug it into its place, your shield guarding your poorer arm, “Squire, who do we pray to for strength, for courage?”

“The Warrior.”

“LORDS AND LADIES OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS! AND SMALLFOLK OF ALL!” the herald calls to attention, the buzz of the crowd roaring in return. He introduces the King, he calls attention to the importance of the first tilt.

“TODAY WE WILL BEGIN WITH A TRIAL BY COMBAT. REPRESENTING THE CROWN, SER BOROS BLOUNT OF THE KINGSGUARD.”

Another roar.

“AND REPRESENTING HOUSE MALROY, SER DONTOS MALROY. THIS WILL BE A BATTLE TO FIRST BLOOD. AND NOW, WITH OUR GRACE’S WILL?”

He pauses and the King stands, the Usurper, and he raises his arm, the crowd buzzing in anticipation.

“Squire, who do we pray to for guidance of judgment? For justice?”

“The Father.”

His arm drops and you dig into Penance, you catch Brynden watching upon his feeting, cheering your name and yelling the words of your House, “RIDE UNTO THE SUNSET.” And you ride, your eyes set upon the ghost of a man who did not deserve his place. And today, you would prove this. You would do memories proud.

Success, three degrees of success.

Penance strikes against the ground, strength in his every step, trained movement, unburdened by the barding about his body.Your legs hugged the side as your body fell into position, nothing but a dull buzz kept your attention, that and the look of a man that had just met his better. He turns his head, his lance smashes into your shield arm, and you grunt, your poorer arm taking the brunt of the pain, however. Yours strikes the man in the chest, shattering to pieces and carrying through, you hear the crowd begin to clamor as the motion becomes slower. You push through the motion and drive the man from his seat, his horse continues and the man remains, airborne for a moment. Reality comes to play again and you continue down the field and round your horse hard, finding Ser Boros laid out spreadeagle on the ground.

You look to the grand stand and see the royal family in a near shock, a member of the Kingsguard unhorse in one tilt, and now laying motionless. But not drawn of blood and the crowd roared for it. You unhorsed on the fair side, Victus meeting your call and throwing your long sword and scabbard into your hand you tear the sword from its place and discard the leather holding. You stalked the field, and Ser Boros stirred, falling to one side before standing again, his own page gives him a mace that is coupled with a still intact shield and he shakily waits to meet you.
In story you were the black knight, one of falsehoods, of lies treachery, he the knight in resplendent white standing for all that was right. And yet here, you were the True Knight, fighting a cowardly whelp, you cared little for story. It was truth that would bring your name honor again, that would bring glory. You unhitch the cloak of purple that had been once a gift and it falls away your mind yet again focused. You dig into the ground and charge, sword ready to strike.

“Father in the eyes of the Seven I ask for your judgment.”

Your sword cracks into his shield and you find yourself inside his guard, a square elbow flies into his face and he stumbles backwards the metal of his helmet indenting from the strike and he calls out in pain. He gives you too much give, his movements unpracticed, how he ever came to such a station is beyond you. Your sword rounds again and catches him in the elbow, his guard being so poor he’s letting an unarmed man dance in and out of it. He attempts to swing at you and catches your shoulder by sheer luck in a poorly timed overhead strike. The crunch rattles your bad arm and you back off for a moment, letting it hang loose.

The crowd is chanting for blood now, they desire base lusts, you cannot wrong them for their vices, and today you will not deny them. Moving into Ser Boros’ range again you batter his shield with strikes and push him back further into the middle of the field, you swing your body and crunch into his side almost buckling the man, but he still stands, though wavering greatly. He presses at you, albeit weakly, and you match his blows, attempting to not tangle your sword up in his mace, unfair advantage as it was. He gets another lucky hit but it slides off, and you kick into his knee and he falls to it. You can see the chest piece heaving greatly and he tears the helmet from his head, hoping for air.

You back off again and guarded your step, moving in a semicircle you measured the man. He was faltering on the left side, his shield arm hanging loosely from tire. The crowd had turned into a dull buzz again as you focused up and caught your breath for a moment, you could finish this, he left himself exposed to your strikes.

“Warrior guide my hand.”

She called your name. In fear, she wanted her Uncle. Little Isis, afraid of nothing more than a spider upon her wall. You picked her up and brought her close, she shied away and wanted gone of it. It simply waited, and watched.

“Uncle Dontos, kill it!” she yelled.

Instead you picked it up and let it free from the window, “Isis. You do not kill what does you no harm. You need protect the weak. Fight for those unable. It is a simple thing. He is as scared of you as you it.”

She buried her face into your chest, that of a boy, not fully grown, “Someday Dontos. You’ll be the best Knight in the Seven Kingdoms…”

---

Your face was turnt to focus, such a fixation on the ruin of your opponent it hardly cared for the outside world. Her voice echoed in your head, that of a Maiden. Your sword planted not his guard and spun free as he turned with it, another slice into the left, a harder blow to his weapon arm and he drops it. His attempts to move away from you begin to falter, his shield being the only thing left to guard him. You hack at it, pushing into his guard harder and harder, dancing to each side with your sword blows, striking with such fierceness it has begun to quiet the crowd.
>>
A final blow lodges your sword into his shield and you wrench it free from his arm, you hear the shatter of bones. A moan of pain strikes your ears and you push him further into him now with only your mailed fist. You take a jab at his face and he stumbles away from it, falling to the ground. The final action before you mount him and raise fist, your warrior’s spirit finally stopping to hear the wretched cry of.

“MERCY SER! BY THE SEVEN PLEASE MERCY!”

He cries, his body broken, and you relent, seeing blood trickle from his nose, there was blood. They had what they needed. And you had won.

You stand, and walk to the grandstand and look the royal family in the eyes, and you bow on one knee. Before stalking off.

Chapter IX, part iii - Brynden

“He begged for mercy like a girl,” Mason says into your ear.

You are silent, the brutality of the fight almost surprised you, you knew of the skill of your Uncle first hand but to see it. It made your fighting look like child’s play, small wonder he called you such. The audience almost seemed stunned, no songs would be made of this duel. It was a slaughtering, only stopped by the rules of the duel. But one you had won, the trial by combat gone into your favor. A nice sum of gold would be repaid, glory bestowed upon your House and perhaps Dontos would feel alive again and not so prone to broodiness.

The herald attempts to whip the crowd back into it, Ser Jaime Lannister is to ride his first tilt, you shake back into reality and lean back. You find Ser Lucas sat next to you.

“A fine duel that my Lord. The stories of your Uncle hold some truth then it would seem,” he says and flashes you a smirk, “My brother would ask your audience now that the days deed is done, would you see him my Lord?”

Eh, Jamie is actually not that bad, queen bitch won't try anything for a while, its pretty bad enough already that he was probably appointed by her and then lost so badly.
As for fucktards in search of glory, i imagine they might respect a chance to be taught by Dontos.

Maybe we could get our uncle to train knights who join us as the bonus incentive? This little fight would have shown his skill well enough.
>>
>>42839232

That's why I said "In the future".

>>42839233

It's still possible. We just gotta see if The Father and Page like the idea.
>>
>>42839246
I think we just made the best possible advertisement for our own melee
>>
>>42839165
I've referenced Harrock before, and have said that I consider Karban canon. But Bordain is a little harder, I've actually never read that one. Which isn't a knock on Page, I just never got the chance to.

I might? I can't make a promise on that, the way they change the canon is pretty drastic. But I've never referenced Amory either. Maybe our timeline will be the same as Bordain's by the time Page comes back. Then we'll discuss it.

>>42839164
I'd actually imagine it would make the Melee in Steadhold look far more important. Shame about the Knight cap. But people will want to learn from Dontos, and he very rarely fights. It simply isn't who he is anymore.

Anyway, quick snack. Then we'll continue.
>>
>>42839308

You could send Page a tweet and ask if he's alright with the idea.

It's alright if he's not. I'm not expecting you two to be in full instant agreement and that a crossover will happen real soon.

Just that I like the idea and want to suggest it is all.

>Tywin is many things but petty is not one of them.
>Tywin "They called my father a shit, they made a song out of the ruins of their houses" Lannister.
>not petty.
There's one thing Tywin despise above Tyrion. It's that someone makes fun of his House.
Cersei just put to shame her House name by using a Kingsguard and having him get #rekt in a tourney 6 months after a civil war where the only thing the Lannisters did where sack King's Landing and kill the king.

Yeah. He is going to be pissed at Cersei for being a petty, vendictive little scheming bitch. She was the one who made his family look stupid.

Also i think what he did to the Tarbeck and Reynes were fitting and not really a overreaction. We will most likely do the same to Redward
>>
>>42839374
I'll talk to him when he awakens from his slumber once again. I don't want to down the idea. Though I do worry the interaction may just become Brynden dying very quickly.

>>42839389
Alright, for those curious Tywin is miffed. But not so much had she used Preston Greenfield, a Westerlands House. But to counter it Jon Arryn can basically shrug anything he tries to throw at you off. So yeah, you annoyed Tywin "Make it Reyne" Lannister, but the allies you made otherwise balanced it.

Oh and in regards to canon. Boros is regarded as a coward and weakling by the time of the books. In House Malroy canon basically that started from this beating, Boros was actually a pretty good Knight before, but this is what made him a baby back bitch.

Anyway. Writing.
>>
>>42839492
Even if you do agree on something you can just declare any interaction with the other quest's house is none-canon in their respective quest. So if Malroy shows up in Page's quest it doesnt mean it is canon in Malroy's quest.

Real winner is most likely Robert, wouldn't be surprised that Gendry gets started because of that in this canon.

You stand and Ser Lucas does so alongside you, “Ser Lucas, if it is all the same I would attend my Uncle before I meet with your elder brother. I mean no disrespect, simply a matter of family.”

Having all of the sauve of a sellsword Ser Lucas simply smiles in response, “Of course my Lord. I will wait for you here, and upon your return perhaps?”

“Perhaps Ser Lucas.” you respond and nod Mason off, Leaving the highborn stands you travel through the bustle of the crowds, the smallfolk speaking upon whispered word as you pass. Today Dontos struck fear in the heart of man, and it would be remembered even if it gave no song upon ear to do so. You gain entrance into the lists and find Ser Wesley Hayford with your Uncle their foreheads together in a silent prayer. Your Uncle claps him on the shoulder and he leaves off with Lorry behind him.

Victus begins to help Dontos from his plate careful on each part, reacting to the the way your Uncle flinches from each piece. It surprised you to see Victus having become so adept with the tasks of a squire. Perhaps this is why Dontos seemed less hesitant to teach the child. You stand in quiet wait and allow Dontos his ritual, his prayers spoken upon mumbled tongue. Victus repeating lines as he caught them.

“Father? Do you know who Ser Dontos prayed to last?”

“Who is that my young son?”you say kneeling next to him.

“He prayed to the Father, for judgment, for justice. Do you think he listened?”

“I would imagine so Victus,” you say laughing, “Your thoughts Dontos?”
>>
“That our prayers were answered and the light of the Seven shone upon me this day,” he says regarding you again, his eyes drawing you to standing and meeting them, “And a small bit of luck. No doubt from a poorly trained horse.”

“Typical of the Blounts. Even with half our stables in King’s Landing, they still can’t figure out how to breed a horse worth a damn.”

Your Uncle laughs, and you see some degree of joy in his eyes again, he did enjoy battle you knew this about the man. You could feel it in the way he trained and kept his self. But he did not want that to be his only grace, no wonder he felt so compelled to speak dissent into your ear.

“Good that it is done though. Brynden. I will return to the villa in my own time, then we will speak of your…” he pauses as Victus looks to him, “Of your lack of judgment.”

You look him in the eyes, but they are firm, even the fight did little to mar that strength “Of course Uncle. Do you wish for Victus to attend you?”

“If he wishes.”

Victus shakes his head yes, he looked to you like a god amongst men, but you could see in his eyes that he thought Dontos the Warrior reborn. You allow him off and find yourself alone for a moment, sighing you return to your seat, finding a young page in House Arryn colors that you had met before.

“My Lord, The Hand of the King, Lord Jon Arryn wishes audience with you,” he says briskly and looks up to you with eyes wanting to watch the lists. Ser Lucas still sits speaking with Mason of the tilt going on right now. You look and find Wesley saddling up and hear the announcer call, “Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard,” as his opponent.

>Go with the page to meet Jon Arryn?
>Go with Ser Lucas Longwaters to meet with his elder brother?
>>
>>42839884

Wouldn't be a terrible call to invite Ser Lucas and his brother, wife, child to the villa. Nothing wrong with hosting another House. If that is what you guys would like to do. There isn't any major feasting tonight from celebration at large, so it would work out.

Sounds like a good idea. A small feast or large dinner. Call it what you want.

Supporting the dinner
>>
The page turns his attention away from you slightly as the first tilt begins, Wesley looks the young Knight upon golden steed, but Ser Jaime is fierce. His stance fixed and practiced. You worried. The lances shatter, and to your shock Wesley stays upon his horse having given Ser Jaime an even showing on their first tilt. Wesley looks winded and cracks a piece of wood out from his visor while Ser Jaime is already taking up position for the second round.

“A moment page, I would speak with my guest,” you say and he moves off to watch fully.

“Ser Lucas,” you interrupt, “I find myself yet again called away by matters out of my hands. In a gesture of goodwill perhaps yourself and Ser Jon along with his Lady wife, child and your Household would attend dinner at my family’s villa? In your honor and for my lack of common manners.”

Lucas stands to meet you and grips your outstretched hand, “A novel idea my Lord. I’m sure my brother would be thrilled. He would see no disrespect regardless, but would appreciate the honors greatly,” he smiles again and bows after breaking his hold, “Upon the evening then my Lord?”

“Of course, Ser Lucas, on my honor,” he respond and see him off. The page comes to your side again and you find you missed another tilt, Wesley had missed the mark, but still remained horsed after another shattering blow from Ser Jaime. You caught the Kingsguard member thrusting his lance to the ground and lining up for another, while Wesley was much slower.
>>
You’re lead to the grandstand, and then away to a small private box where Lord Arryn sits, is Royce Knight from before attending him, and the other of the unknown House. He bids you sit and offers a golden wine, watered down with cool water, that you take happily too.

“Not quite what I had thought in mind when I spoke to you last my Lord,” he begins, smiling a toothless grin.

“Nor I Lord Hand,” you respond settling in and casting an eye about.

“A good showing regardless though my Lord, the King was pleased as I had expected, and the Queen was… Less so,” he continues emotionless, “I take it your Uncle is in good health?”

“Yes my Lord, thank you for asking.”

“A good thing my Lord. I would expect that he will need to be with your melee so soon. A few of my Knights have been chattering about it even, after that display at least.”

To hear that the Hand of the King had heard of your Melee was a good sign, perhaps it would encourage a larger attendance, larger still if he came, though that was doubtful, “A good thought to hear my Lord Hand. Ser Wesley, the man tilted against Ser Jaime is attending to the preparations. Ever excited in his youth.”
>>
Lord Arryn quiets a moment while the third pass comes under way, Ser Jaime is simply far too good for your cousin and plants a final shattering blow into his chest that unhorses the young man in quick order, he sighs having expected as much and for a moment you tense, before seeing Wesley stand under his own power before Ser Haigh and Lorry catch him. Relief filling you after.

“My Lord. I do not ask you here for simple chatter,” Lord Arryn begins again, “I find myself in need of another favor. One that would require both your services and your uncles.”

You sit in quiet a moment, you were getting very cozy with the Hand of the King it would seem and it had begun to worry. Others might see it as a sign of allegiance, even with wounds still fresh upon your House, but it could elevate your Household. You were once a principle banner of the Crown, though now laid low… It was a decision of magnitude.

>Hear Lord Arryn out?
>Deny his request, you are done with favors to the Crown

“I would agree my Lord..” you begin and falter a moment from his gaze, “But if this requires the attentions of my Uncle. I would have him with me.”

The elder man seems slightly ruffled by this, but agrees nonetheless. You assume Dontos is on his way to the Great Sept again, and the unknown Knight goes after him. For a moment you watch the another tilt, a hedge knight with unknown colors and the other of House Frey you think. The Frey Knight wins, but only by skinning the cat and holding onto his horse for dear life on the fourth tilt. By this time Dontos has come, and takes his seat alongside you, his face less of concern but more of confusion. He assures Victus is safe, the Knight that gathered him attending to the child.

Lord Arryn gets your Uncle up to speed and you see a small bit of interest in his eyes, he felt needed, his opinion wanted. As if my sorcery his words were beaten into your head and you listened for once. He turned and nodded to you, and you allow Lord Arryn to begin.
>>
“My Lord, what I ask of you is of great consequence. Since the war has ended Dorne has been quiet, but now Prince Oberyn returns from the Free Cities. His mind set on vengeance. His orders have whipped Dorne into a fervor and war is upon their tongues. I have talked his grace down from all out war and instead allowing myself to speak with the Dornishmen, and bring them to peace.”

Your face scrunches up in confusion, this hardly seemed something that applied to yourself, if there was to be war, you would fight. Diplomacy was hardly your calling. Lord Arryn sees this and continues with a slight sigh.

“My Lord. I would ask escort of your House. Yourself, Ser Dontos, and three other of your swornmen. You would be among those responsible for representing the Crownlands in these peace talks. A few others would be invited, along with the Westerlands, Riverlands, and the Reach. I need men I can rely upon my Lord. And in this I ask you.”

Dontos seems surprised yet interested in the offer, nodding along with the elder man as he continues, asking a few questions here and there. You find that you would leave in two months, and be back home in another, that you would need not pay anything for the trip instead being escorted by the Royal Navy herself. It was a large offer, a larger favor.

>Any questions for Lord Arryn?
>Simply accept now
>>
>>42840716
>being escorted by the Royal Navy herself.

Arryn has us pegged for a loyalist house that has learned its place.

>Also. What can we get out of it. Lessen the restrictions on our house ?
"I cannot entirely lift the restrictions placed upon your House my Lord. Not so soon after they have been placed. Perhaps in time without further incident, but I cannot make that promise now. However, attending the Hand of the King will no doubt bring favor from elsewhere, and I've little doubt your time in Dorne would be well spent. Many Houses to meet. Alliances to be made. Trade to be dealt. Your House still offers some of the best Horses in Westeros no? Perhaps even the Dornish would see their superiority compared to their Sand Steeds."

Dontos shares a look with you, one of… Approval? You had not expected that from him. But he nods you on, and leans back to watch a tilt as you speak with the Hand, “Lord Arryn, I would be remiss to reject such an offer. I would be honored to accompany you to Dorne in hopes of a peaceful conclusion.”

Lord Arryn nods slightly, somber for a moment, and hardly reacts when a young Knight is thrown from his horse in a brutal manner, “This is good to hear my Lord. I would think it a good opportunity regardless of circumstances, no doubt you worry for your lands though while you away. Rest assured Steadhold will fall under my own protection while you are away. If it would ease your mind, a cadre of Knights of the Vale will take up residence for the duration.”

Dontos agrees with the mention as well and you allow such, it would be good to know your lands safe and protected, worry still tinged your thoughts at Royce’s plans to the south. Perhaps a few of these Knights would enjoy competing in your melee as well. Thoughts for the future no doubt.

Lord Arryn gathers himself up in a single movement and goes to stand, you following after, “My Lord it was good to speak with you again. I am most pleased to have your acceptance in this most delicate matter. I will send raven to Steadhold when the time has come, but for now, I must attend to our King. I fear he may be wishing himself among the lists here soon in his drunken state. Again, congratulations Ser Dontos, and good day to you both.”
>>
Lord Arryn is escorted to the grandstand by the Royce Knight and the unknown takes you to your seat, Victus and Dontos off to the Great Sept again no doubt. Mason meets you and tells you of the acceptance to your proposal of dinner with the Longwaters. Ser Lucas seemed more than happy, for reasons unknown to him. You sit again and enjoy a few of the tilts, a burden again lifted from your shoulder. And speak with your friend at length of the Joust, he had wished to join but found himself more at use by your side these days, and he would do the men of Steadhold no good being crippled in a strike of poor luck.

Your conversation is interrupted by the herald calling the next tilt, and your attention caught by a streak of crimson on purple and black. “NEXT IS A MAN WHO GAINED HIS KNIGHTHOOD ON THE FIELD OF BATTLE, UPON THE TRIDENT WHERE MANY LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR OUR KING. A KNIGHT OF TRUE INTENT AND NEWLY MADE LORD. LORD. ROYCE. REDWARD.”

And your blood ran cold.

Alright so that’s the thread, good place to stop. Got a lot done today. I hope everyone enjoyed it.

Next thread will be this Saturday at 2PM EST, 3 October. Next thread will open with Brynden seeing the man that wronged his family for the first time, dinner with the Longwaters and BUSINESS, the melee, and archery contest. And some other small things that lead into bigger happenings down the line. I’ll be around for question for a bit as usual. Thanks for participating everyone.

Anyway. Thanks for running and nighty

I would like an entire thread of Dontos POV please. And who else do you want to do POVs for?
>>
>>42841947
An entire thread might get a bit boring. Dontos does a lot of prayer, brooding, and training the garrison into the ground. It's not often he let's loose and becomes the black knight again.

Otherwise, I would like to do a Victus POV but much further down the line when his story really gets started. And I'm not sure who else right now would be interesting enough to do POVs with.

Pov of fuck I forget the guy who went to get his brother from slavery?
Also how would anyone find out Royce has our sister?
>>
>>42842001
So is Dontos getting a sweet nickname from this?

>ELEVEN FUCKING CAPTCHAS
>>
>>42842043
Illiad? That actually sounds interesting, a thread in the Free Cities would break up the Steadhold/King's Landing monotony. I'll give that a strong thought because I can see it working.

Otherwise, sister stuff. Don't worry the hook for that is coming, a bunch of other things need to set into motion before it becomes relevant though. I want to make the pay off for that huge.

>>42842108
The smallfolk would likely call him that, but he wouldn't desire the name.

I actually don't know about annulling. It might be nice to raise the redward heir after all, then as much as we hate Royce we'd just have to wait for him to die of natural causes.
And I'm going to repeat my suggestion that our way to refer to Lyanna and Rhaegar be to acknowledge that Royce has the crown's favor, and ask if that means we can expect to be thrown on a pyre like the late lord stark and his son were.

>>42842043
We REALLY need to get a spymaster. I mean the second thing we'd have them do after doing a quick check for spies in our own house is get a man on the inside in the reddward fort.

>nd I'm going to repeat my suggestion that our way to refer to Lyanna and Rhaegar be to acknowledge that Royce has the crown's favor, and ask if that means we can expect to be thrown on a pyre like the late lord stark and his son were.

Could you explain this to me. For some reason it just hasn't clicked on my head the parallels you're making.

Regarding spymasters. Couple things, one where does one just find a spymaster? It is not so simple a task as paying the wealth fee and calling it a day with me. You need to work for it.

Another, Dontos would not agree. He thinks spies, sabotage, and assassins are the cowards means and dishonorable to boot.
>>
>>42842515
Hmm could we ask the gold company for suggestions about that? Surely working with the second sons we met some shady people who offered knowledge and the like for coin
>>
>>42842515
Rhaegar kidnapped lyanna, but that didn't kick off a war. what kicked off a war was when the then lord stark, and his son, went to complain to the king and he burnt them both alive right then and there. So not just comparing Royce to Rhaegar, ALSO suggesting that if Robert DOESN'T give us free rein on this he's as bad as Aerys was.

>Dontos would not agree. He thinks spies, sabotage, and assassins are the cowards means and dishonorable to boot.
Guess what, spymaster job number one is COUNTER espionage, keeping people from spying on YOU. A spymaster is what keeps an honorable lord from becoming a DEAD honorable lord.

>>42842564
That's not necessarily a TERRIBLE idea. When we were sellswording, was there anyone with a knack for getting city guards to open city gates or killing enemy commanders or stealing enemy battle plans? THEM we could throw wealth at.
>>
>>42842564
>>42842741
Damn it why did I make you a sellsword. Let me put some thought towards it. My Essosi characters always end up being my favorite anyway.

>>42842713
Alright I see what you're saying now. I'm not sure when that could ever be appropriate to bring up however. Not unless the cat is out of the bag regarding it.

Also as I've said before Dontos has a very linear view of things. It's hard to impose such things on him without argument, it's simply what he believes.

>I'm not sure when that could ever be appropriate to bring up however. Not unless the cat is out of the bag regarding it.
Well the context i'm talking about it in would be bringing charges against Royce/asking for permission for a small war, so yes the cat would be being brought of the bag anyway if it wasn't already out at that point.

The downside is that they frankly would probably not be a very good spymaster since anyone REALLY good probably would've already been snatched up by essosi powers that be looking for agents, they'd just be better than our next option, which is appointing someone as a spymaster at random, which in turn would get better results than putting a medieval want ad in the paper, which i'm pretty sure would get us a spymaster that actively made things WORSE.
