I've been staring at this stupid door for ages now, waiting with nothing but Nadja's constant fidgeting as she turns over whatever stray thought snuck its way into her head this time. She's been chattering away for more than an hour straight and now that we're here she suddenly falls completely silent.

"You gonna knock?" I ask as I give Nadja a firm poke on the arm.

I hate her silence. I'm supposed to be the silent one. When she stops talking everything just gets awkward and uncomfortable, but when she's talking the world just seems right. At least it's kinda sweet when she gets all obsessed over little things nobody else sees.

"Well, I was just thinking abou-" She begins. I knock on the door.

Again, complete silence falls around us as Nadja takes on a look of utter fear. But why? She finally dared to bring herself all the way out here to become the witch's apprentice after all those months of me telling her to just go already, so now that she's actually been accepted, what is there to be so afraid of? Unfortunately, the owner this house doesn't seem to want to save me from the continuing awkwardness.

"Maybe she isn't ho-" I pull the handle and, to the surprise of both of us I think, the door opens. What witch forgets to lock her own door?

"What are you doing! You can't just do that, Mistress is going to be furious!"

"Mistress", huh? I can't wait to see what the house of a "mistress" looks like.
>>
>>42779058
"No no no! You can't go inside! That's trespassing! She'll- she'll- she'll-"

Gods, I love when she gets herself worked up.

"Relax, it's your house too isn't it?"

As it turns out, the house of a "mistress" is characterized mainly by being a complete and utter mess. Books, flasks, chairs, and even a table lie strewn the ground floor.

"Wha- no no that's not how it works!" She grabs me by the arm and tries to pull me back outside. Unfortunately for her, she has the arms of- well, of an ordinary girl, and a moment later she's standing in the center of the room, tugging helplessly at me.

"Please Amalia, she'll hurt you!" She tries to bargain.

"You'll protect me." And even if not, I'm not scared of some old lady. Let her pick a fight if she wants. "Besides, we have important business here."

Important business indeed. It's not every day you get the chance to explore the house of a real witch! We're going to have so much fun here, even if I have to force her to.

"Bwuh? We do? What business?"

"Well, for starters..."

>"Shouldn't you clean up this mess? (while I subtly check out the rest of the house)"

> Nadja's Notebook: http://pastebin.com/k9cMVURJ (updated 18-09-2015)

From now on, I'll be opening up the Additional Pages section up to you guys. Sort of. The idea is for this bit to serve as YOUR notes, as Nadja's players, so I won't ever write anything in it. Instead, you guys can request to have anything you find worth noting about the quest added to this section. Could be just a reminder to yourselves, could be speculation, anything!

Since I can't really afford to open the notebook to public editing, what you need to do is make a request to have a note added to the notebook right here, in thread. Just try to make sure it's clearly marked so I don't miss it! And of course, I reserve the right to edit your notes to make them more Nadja, or reject them outright if they're not Nadja at all.

It's kind of a weird and experimental idea (someone's probably done it, but I don't know about so that makes it original!) that I hope will help you guys enjoy the quest more, and to help you keep your fellow players up to date.

Questions from last post-thread:

>Sounds kind of cool, maybe we could already add something about how we met a nice fairy, but it lied to us.
>Can we add a note about that weird dream we had, and how it was weird. Maybe it'd be important later, so we better note it down.

Both good ideas! But I'd like you to try to write it so that they're YOUR thoughts as representatives of Nadja.

We're not ready for the hat yet.
>>
>>42779088
>Both good ideas! But I'd like you to try to write it so that they're YOUR thoughts as representatives of Nadja.
It's a good idea to make us do stuff so you can focus on the actual quest, but i don't know how exactly it's supposed to be written. Is it first person where we talk like: "I met a fairy today, it seemed nice, but somehow it seems they don't always speak the truth..." or should it be: "Faries: Cute, very small, lies sometimes." Like a manual?
>>
>>42779071
>>"Shouldn't you clean up this mess? (while I subtly check out the rest of the house)"
>>
>>42779210
It clearly says that it is not to be used as a diary.
>>
>>42779271
True, but i'm not really sure how to Nadjafy it then...
>>
>>42779271
Yeah, right.
>>
>players go on and on about heads since the beginning of the quest
>finally offer them hat
>they don't want it

This is why I shouldn't try to plan ahead.

>>42779210
You decide! If you feel that Nadja would write it, you can write it! If I feel it's off tone, I'll just edit it.

The real point is, since some things such as the dream carry a certain significance and meaning, if I had to write the note I would have to guess how much you as players have picked up or guessed.

>>42779271
It also says never to show the book to anyone else. That includes Mistress. It's all yours!
>>
>>42779386
>finally offer them hat
>they don't want it
It's too early, if we're too greedy and do nothing to work towards it, it'd be less fulfilling.
>>
>>42779071
>"Don't witches need a proper hat? We gotta find you one!"
>>
>>42779386
>players go on and on about heads

Well, that's supposed to be hats, but at least my brain fart was close to the mark?
>>
>>42779386
>>42779452
Huntress girl cares not about hats.
>>
>>42779386
It's nice of you to offer the hat thing, but currently, controlling this character and with Mistress gone, it's not the right time.
>>
>>42779386
Let me try:

"Strange (important?) Occurences:

Dream, [Date]
After my Initiation in the forest I fell asleep and had a weird dream. In it I stood in a small room with one picture on each wall other than the wall with the door. The pictures were portraits of Papa, my Mistress and me. Papa and Mistress seemed to look at me. The pictures were so incredibly detailed they felt eery! In the middle was a [color] sparkle on a stand. Someone had written not to touch the sparkle on the pedestal. On the door was written not to leave. I left the room and saw a strange figure, but then I woke up. Maybe I should have done something with the pictures?"

I think I’m really bad at writing like a happy child. At least I’m slightly better at writing like a child who tries to write like an adult, I hope.
>>
>>42779705
Shout it not be included that the figure said something, too?
>>
>>42779736
Maybe? I just wrote something from memory because someone should and no-one did. I also didn’t include the colour of the sparkle and the darkness. Think of it as a first draft, to be improved by whoever wants.

I tried to write one for the fairy as well, but there wasn’t much to write in my opinion. Maybe something like:

"Creatures:

Fairies:
One stole my clothes and stuff after the Initiation! Her name was [name]. Fairies tend to lie."

I would also ask for more info on how fairies can survive being bashed to mush and then include that.
>>
>>42779071
>"Your "mistress" be in here somewhere. Might need help. We gotta find her."
>>
>>42779838
Well, i might put out some effort later on if nobody else does more of it...
>>
>>42779866

>>
>>42779071
>"Shouldn't you clean up this mess? (while I subtly check out the rest of the house)"
>>
>>42779071
"Shouldn't you clean up this mess?" While I subtly check out the rest of the house, of course!

"Huh?" She looks around, as if only just now realizing the mess. "Ahhh! What happened in here?"

"Does it matter?" Looking around, it's actually pretty clear. The books are conveniently massed along the wall opposite of the bookshelf, while the smashed glass is mostly found along the very same bookshelf. Someone was specifically throwing the stuff, but at the same time didn't just tear down the entire shelves for maximum damage. Obviously an act of anger.

"Don't touch that! It might be dangerous!"

But Nadja might not need to know that right now. She's already being adorable, wouldn't want to push her into pathetic.

"Guess I can't help then?"

"No no, it's okay! You helped a lot already, Amalia! You're the bestest friend ever so just leave this to me!"

Gee, way to make me feel bad about this. Oh well, can't let that stop me now. Treasures await! And knowing Nadja, she'll be entirely focused on the job and nothing else. While she busies herself, I begin weighing my options.

That process turns out to be quite brief as it becomes clear there's only two ways to go. Back out into the completely ordinary and unusual forest, or up to the second floor of the magical witch's house. Easy choice!

>>
>>42780017
The stairs scream in painful agony as I ascend their steps. Poorly maintained. Father would weep if he saw this, tell the old witch she's lucky they haven't given in to her weight already. And then he'd remember he's talking to a woman, just a few moments too late. Heh, silly little man. Can't beat him when it comes to tinkering with things, though.

The second floor promises to be as much of a treasure trove as I had hoped for. A bedroom apparently, the centerpiece is the oversized bed with some oversized lady clad (barely!) in black and sprawled out face down on top. The old witch, I guess?

Skipping the boring stuff, by the foot of the bed rests a large chest, not unlike the kind you'd see in picture books about pirates. It's practically begging me to open it up!

The rest of the room is just boring old stuff, a closet, a mirror, and in the corner, an old broom. Hey, don't witches fly on these? That might be fun too!

Gods, this woman is huge. Not huge like the walking whale that calls herself Baroness. This one is shaped like an actual person, aside from that ridiculous chest, except much taller. Even taller than Nadja's giant dad!

She doesn't really look old like I expected either. The stories said she has lived here over a hundred years. Were they wrong? I suppose if she's a real witch, she doesn't have to look old if she doesn't want to? That would be kind of neat. Being besties with a witch is going to be all kinds of fun!

Assuming she can learn anything from this crazy lady, that is. It's well past noon, what is she doing sleeping now? And with her door unlocked too! She's just begging for someone to waltz in here and make rude drawings all over the place. Shame I didn't think to bring paint. Doesn't mean I can't still mess with the place, though!

But first, I should probably check on her. She IS a witch, wouldn't want her to wake up and catch me stealing her stuff. Better check how fast asleep she is. A good poke on the arm seems to be the solution to every problem today. Or...

I kinda am curious how those huge things feel. Hiding or running with those must be awful. Apparently boys like them big, though? Couldn't guess why, but she'd probably make Klemens drool all over himself if he saw her. Heehee! I definitely gotta try poking those.

I've barely even touched her yet when she suddenly lets out a long moan, causing me to freeze mid-poke. She shifts slightly, then falls silent again. Must be dreaming. Back to business!

The sensation is... unexpected. By the look, I thought they would just be all soft and squishy like a wet sack. They ARE soft, but they don't just slush about. Instead they keep their shape, even though they're so big and soft. I have to stop myself from laughing aloud at the feeling.

"Mmmh," the witch moans again. "Andreas..."

"Pfffahahaha!" Oh, this is too great! She's dreaming about Nadja's dad!

The eyes of the witch suddenly spring open. Oops? With a groan, she rises to a seated position, lazily panning her eyes across the room, finally settling on mine.

"Girl... Did your mother never teach you not to enter another's home uninvited?"

"She tried." If mother had her way, I'd probably never step foot outside the house except to do boring chores!

The witch nochalantly rubs her eyes as if this was a completely normal situation to her. Maybe it is.

"I see... the mutant gir-"

Not that word again! "Who the hell are you calling a mutant, you giant freak?"

At last, she opens her eyes properly. Took her long enough to get angry. The anger passes quickly though, and she resigns herself to a simple sigh.

"Your name is Amalia. You are friend to my new apprentice, Nadja. So I will not punish you, for now. So tell me now, have you seen her?"

"Are you in love with her dad?"

Amazingly, not a single muscle on the witch's face so much as twitches. She must be trying really hard not to reveal a thing. Too bad for her that already tells me everything I needed to know.

"Is that extortion, girl?" She stands up, displaying the full menace of her imposing figure. And then nothing. The hag must think she can subdue me, just like that.

Several moments pass like that. She even tries squinting her eyes at me. Too bad for her I'm not Nadja. Finally, she reveals the slightest of smiles.

"I like you, Bold One." The witch breaks her stare, retreating to her mirror to put on a show of idly adjusting her hair and clothes. "You and I could easily have business in the future. That said, I will not pay you for something I can simply take from you."

"Scary."

She lets out an understated laugh. "To ordinary people, yes."

Well, this lady may not be so bad after all. I guess I can let her off the hook. "She's downstairs, cleaning up your mess."

She pauses for a second before slowly and confidently walking down the stairs, insistent on continuing her masquerade. "Wait here."

As if.

Even from up here I clearly hear her pace quicken, almost into a sprint. When I round the corner into the main room myself, I am greeted by the choking noises of the living hug toy I like to call my friend.

"Mistress-" She coughs. "Can't. Breathe."

Catching sight of me, Nadja begins to plead with her eyes. "Help."

Permission and excuse officially granted, I pick up the broom dropped by Nadja's side, slowly and carefully position myself, weigh the stick in my hands, gotta make this one chance just right, and...

"EEEEEK!"

Run!

I can't believe Amalia actually did that!

Chase complete, Mistress slams the door shut behind her and locks it too, then turns to me. She puts on a smile, even though her face is still burning red.

"Congratulations again, Apprentice Nadja. You are now a sworn witch, which means we can begins your REAL lessons."

Real lessons. And real magic. Maybe I'll soon be able to really help Papa like he deserves.

"But not quite yet! You are clearly in no state to learn to day-"

I'm not?

"and deserve a day of rest besides. As for tomorrow, I assume you attend Sunday School in Hinde?"

"Yes, but I can sk-"

"I would like you to continue those lessons. After all, being a witch does not excuse you from being part of your society." She lets out a soft laugh as she looks about the house. "Well... Not quite yet anyway."

No lessons today, and Sunday School tomorrow? That means... "I have to wait two days more..?"

She nods plainly. "I am sure you have business to attend at home. If nothing else, you have quite the interesting friend to entertain you out there."

I guess there's nothing I can do. "Okay then... Let me just clean-"

"Nadja, I order you to go home and rest. Immediately."

"Bu-"

"No arguments." She growls.

She won't even let me clean up this mess for her. She must be really serious!

"Bye bye, then..."

She says nothing more as I unlock the door to find a still hysterical Amalia outside.

"Amalia, did you really have to hit her on the butt?"

She sounds like she's trying to answer, but all she manages is a few undestinct grunts between laughs. Watching her like that, I can't really help myself from laughing, carefully though so Mistress won't hear.

"I guess it was a little funnny."
