Recently: You've gone to the jungle with Aria to give Garchomp that showdown he's been pining for.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

A few bird Pokemon watch from tall branches surrounding the clearing. Your opponent, Garchomp, seems to be a bit of a celebrity around here.

A few small Gible approach Garchomp from behind. Hen fiercely hisses at them and they run back to the bush in a fearful hurry. The other Gabite and the few Garchomp also back away a little.

You feel another drop of blood run down your face. Your opponent’s nostrils flare at the scent.

Aria keeps herself firmly between you and Garchomp.

A Mankey screams from behind. A few plant and other types of Pokemon encroach for a good view, but nobody dares get too close.

Garchomp growls lowly. It raises its arm and pitch, working the crowd. They responded in an eerie chant and stop.

Aria lowers her fighting stance just a little. She’s fighting the urge to do something flashy before the fight too.

>Attack now and humiliate him in front of the crowd
>Give Aria the go-ahead to show off a bit. Keep your eye on any sudden movements from Garchomp.
>Work the crowd yourself. Aria needs to learn to keep some discipline in a match
>Do a routine with Aria.
>Wait for the crowd to quiet down and until Garchomp is ready, then fight

Aria’s eyes glance back at you. You give her a nod.

She lowers her guard and opens her mouth. A melodious tune rings through the the air. The Pokemon watching let their chant die off and listen closely.

Aria twirls at the attention. Just as she turns away from Garchomp though, he rushes at her.

You have half a second to react. He’s fast. Really fast. The only reason you even get this chance is because you were keeping a close eye on him for Aria’s sake. Her attention isn’t on you and she’s singing loudly.

>Try to hit Garchomp with a Pokeball
>Try to push her out of the way (medium difficulty)
>Try to intercept Garchomp with your fist (Hard, but totally badass)
>Retrieve Aria with her Pokeball (Easy, but might be seen as a wuss move)

Your feet move before your brain does. You’re already there with a fist flying before you even realize what you’re doing.

Time slows down as your eyes catch Garchomps. You see shock all over his face. Good. You gaze him down as you drag your fist through the solid air. You know he could dodge this, but you also know this was the last thing he saw coming and so you through as much strength into it as you have.

It connects and the jungle goes quiet.

Garchomp face is pushed back just a bit. He slowly comes to realize the punch wasn't all that bad at all. His confidence grows and yours vanishes. You’re completely at his mercy. The look on his face tells you he does not understand the concept.

He spins around faster than you can really see and suddenly you're in incredible pain. You go flying back as blue and green and black flash over your vision. The pain becomes distant and secondary to the complete confusion of what just happened.

Everything goes black.

(continued. Still writing.)

Sounds and vision swirl and dance. You try to force it into cohesive sensory input, but it’s slow to come to you. You feel warm and freezing at the same time. Your head just does not want to work right.

The world comes back into focus. You see Aria floating over you. She’s yelling something in the direction of Garchomp, you think.

Your head turns to your arm. Oh. Look at that. It’s still there, but there’s some bone sticking out. Yup. That’s a lot of blood too. You wonder why it doesn't hurt.

Oh, there’s the pain.

You grit your teeth and almost fall over from your seated position. You catch yourself though. Luckily you did it instinctively with your good arm.

This isn’t good. Other Pokemon crowd around to see better. Aria looks to you and to Garchomp who is slowly walking over. She’s holding herself back from attacking him in case you need her to do something else.

A drop of blood runs down your eye. You must have other injuries. You can’t even think straight, but you have to do something.

>Get up. Start the battle with Garchomp
>Concede to Garchomp, try to walk back, and hope he’ll let you
>Get up, try to punch Garchomp with your good arm again

Well, they’re probably not wrong.

Garchomp cocks its head.

“Sing!”

Garchomp’s arms glow purple as he rushes towards Meloetta. That’s either Dual Chop or Dragon Rush. You’re not sure how a Garchomp does it.

Either way, it doesn’t matter. Aria’s voice echoes out as she produces a majestic melody. The loud Mankey yawns drops out of his tree. A Vileplume falls over. And Garchomp slows to a halt. His eyelids come down and he lowers himself onto the ground, fast asleep.

But he won’t be asleep for long.

And yet instead of retaconing it we are never the less still injured, but "Don't worry guys, its not as bad as it looks!" Why even leave us injured at all since it will have no future impact on us now? I think it is the wrong way to go about it, instead either retacon it so we don't do something dumb or keeping the result and getting some narrative mileage out of it.

[I like it. I was actually thinking that as a option if Kat's arm wasn't salvageable, which would depend on medical attention speed and any other injury/fall.]
>>
You fight the urge to hold your arm. But you do glance at it. Okay, maybe that’s not as bad as you thought. It still hurts like hell though.

“Meloetta! Relic Song!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG-FORFL_fw

She sings her song. It sounds like it belongs in the royal ballroom instead of this scrap in the jungle. She spins and transforms into her Pirouette Forme.

Garchomp’s limp body is struck by the soundwaves. He slides back a bit and begins to stir. You have a chance to act again before that if you’re quick.

>Close Combat! Use that STAB
>Wake-up Slap while you have the chance!

Aria is in top form. Or Forme. Whatever. She’s doing great. She still has that graceful, showy twirl, but she’s also clearly taking this seriously as a fight instead of a performance.

“Great work! Now use Wake-up Slap!”

She flies in at Garchomp. She uses a last minute twirl to dodge any potential sneak attack, then keeps going to add some power to it. Just one of the many small tricks Vernon has been teaching you.

Garchomp shoots up awake. He looks furious! He’s also pretty hurt. A weaker Pokemon couldn’t be standing right now, but he’s clearly the big guy around here for a good reason.

He growls and moves to rush Aria again, except he veers off before getting anywhere close. Instead, he kicks up a sudden Sandstorm.

Of course! He’s backed into a corner now. He must have Sand Veil!

You scrunch your eyes and try to block the sand with your hand. Oh damn! You use your other arm instead.

You see a Garchomp shaped silhouette moving towards Aria on the left.

>Quick Attack! Get it first!

Your arm and head are throbbing. You casually wonder if you might have a broken rib too. A lot of pain is setting in as time goes on.

“Role Play! Let’s go!”

Aria quickly complies. She takes on the ability Sand Veil.

And just in time too. Garchomp comes rushing out of the sand and slashes at her. He misses by a mile as she casually twirls out of the way. He gets a claw stuck in a tree and pulls to try to get it out. It starts to get loose.

Uh oh! You don’t like that look. He’s considering going after you instead. He looks pretty hurt and pretty desperate.

You stand still. “Quick attack” you whisper.

Garchomp gets his arm loose and lunges for you. Once again, time moves slowly.

He’s desperate to make you fear him. You think you get it. Fear is the only form of respect he probably knows. If he can’t get it from you when you just come through his territory, what kind of leader is he?

He won’t kill you. He wants to put a scare into you.

But man, those arms are sharp. And you know firsthand he won’t exactly be gentle. You really don’t want another hit like that.

You keep eye contact. Don’t blink. Don’t blink!

His tail moves as he starts to spin it in mid air. You know what’s coming.

>54

And you flinch. Just a little, but you flinch to brace yourself for his attack. The only ones who notice it are you and him.

>91

And that’s when Aria comes in. she smashes into him, stopping his attack on you and sending him flying back. He comes to a skidding stop on the grass, away from the swirling sand.

He lays there. He’s still got the energy to fight, but he doesn’t seem to have the will. He weakly looks over to you and smiles. he got his flinch, just barely.

But he lost the war. He knows it. He rests his head back in defeat and relishes his small victory.

>Put a boot on him and tell the audience you’re the top dog now

Meloetta comes to float by you, just in case any surprises happen. You feel safe with her by your side.

He looks up at you, awaiting your judgement. You’re the victor. You look down at him and think. Your arm throbs and you wipe blood and sweat from your forehead.

“Want to come with me? We can fight more worthy opponents, together.”

He cocks his head, then thinks. That’s a nice prospect, but also a scary one. He’s used to being the big fish in this pond. He still isn't sure what to make of you. You’re weak, you feel pain and you flinch. But you didn't run when hurt. You didn't back away when he came at you. You flinched, sure, but you didn't cower. You have a Pokemon like Meloetta who obviously respects you.

He slowly gets to his feet. He gives a quick nod. You interpret it as him saying “I’ll if you can catch me.”

He’ll fight the Pokeball you throw and accept whatever happens.

“Don’t hold back,” you tell him. Catching a Pokemon is a matter of pride. Different Pokemon have different understandings of what that means, but you know this Garchomp believes in a pretty straightforward concept of domination.

The ball wiggles. Then wiggles again. Then once more.

Click.

You move to pick up his Great Ball. Just as you grab it, the jungle comes alive with the sounding his that stomp and cheer they gave to Garchomp before.

You and Aria look around, then wave. She gives a humble bow. Well, humble for her.

You hitch up your backpack and start walking back. to the cabin. You’re really hurting, but you’re feeling proud. You can tell Aria has her groove back too. She rocked the house.

You wince with every step on the way back. You hope Robin and Vernon don’t freak out too much.

[That’s it for tonight. Thanks for coming everyone! I’ll answer any questions if I can. Better think up a name for Garchomp.]

Fuck that shit. Oberon nearly had Cass killed.

Well with the exception of Garchomp (Razor or Sauron), all of our pokemon are in regular pokeballs
>>42772181
Am I the only one looking forward to Robin freaking out at our new condition?
>>
>>42772213
I supportan
>>
>>42772256
And he nearly killed us with one hit. He's a paranoid fearmongering bully who craves dominion and domination. The name fits.
>>
>>42772286
Fine. Just don't let him get the Lunar Crown.

Or any of Kat's pokemon, for that matter.

I so cannot wait for that.

Did I miss something? Oberon is the King of the Fairies in Shakespeare. It’s more ironic than anything.
>>
>>42772349
Yes I will agree to keep him away from the moonstone supplies anon.

Referencing Devil Survivor: London Quest.

I like King.

So, where did Devil Survivor get the name Oberon from? I'm happy to support the name, but from an ironic standpoint.
>>
>>42772483
he is Oberon king of the fairies in the game
>>

I know the comics are written as your pokemon dying tragic deaths, but isn't it -really- the trainer an asshole who casts aside his pokemon the second they fail him?
>>
>>42772483
The faeries are a faction in the mythos. Oberon is the King Titania the Queen. They are always policing against each other. Oberon is trapped in the form of a child and fairly straight forward bully, Titania is a master schemer. in the quest Oberon got his hands on the Lunar crown which made him bugfuts nuts. It also gave him near complete control over the faeries.

>>42772552
Ah, okay. Still ironic though, giving a dragon type a fairy based name, story or otherwise.
>>42772531
It depends on the context. Pokemon dying adds a bit of "realism" to the game play.
Plus, with the "catch first pokemon you see" rule, you fight with and learn about pokemon you wouldn't normally use.

Any idea about next quest time?
