Last Time, on Feral Necromancer Quest: You returned home from a long journey into the desert which gave your apprentice Lathrien immortality in the form of a vampire. You gained knowledge beyond that, but little of immediate importance. Once back you came to realize the full extent of the changes brought on by the curse. You made him some synthetic blood and taught him to make some himself. Your giant spiders went briefly berserk and you learned of a hivemind under the mountain. You resisted the alien spider spirit and returned to your own body, only to be surprised by a dwarven runner- the spiders have been attacking the dwarves. You rushed out in force to meet them in battle. You survived the encounter, but exhausted and battered you fell asleep in the dwarven halls after insuring that the golems can hold the spiders back, at least for now.

The Cast:

Vlad Tepish: You, a necromancer of great skill, seeking immortality. More than a year ago you found the ruin of an elven temple, that contained a library. Using ancient knowledge and your own will, you have been pursuing immortality and better life for all.

Bathory: Your lover and the reason for your original exile. Once she died, you bound her spirit, so that you would not lose her. You have given her an alchemical body, which has recently proven to be capable to bear children.

Lathrien: Your apprentice and the first Vampire. A skilled, if meek elven mage, he is getting used to his new condition. He has had trouble dealing with his newfound hunger, but you intervened before he'd killed anybody innocent.

Melandie: An elven huntress and berserker, she is a loyal companion of yours with severe anger issues. Recently she has had her leg amputated due to a terrible battle injury, and you've built her a new one through alchemy.

+++OF GREAT IMPORTANCE+++

I have realised that asking each time for a vote FOR or AGAINST a specific immortality option makes no statistical sense. I've made a strawpoll including all the more obvious immortality options as of right now. The results of it will NOT be immediate, but WILL BE FINAL AND BINDING.

Vote here: http://strawpoll.me/5596897

I'd honestly like to know the hidden options first before chooseing, but the dragon one seems interesting than the others.

We leveled up Dragon magic, it augmented our wild shape to have two additional hits. This time I think we're planning on leveling Shamanism to max it out

Oh hells, there is no way you are going back into that meatgrinder of horror, at least not before breakfast. You get off the dwarven slab of a bed, and though it is hard as, well, rock, with the imports of furs and fabrics from the other assorted tribes as well as you left you much more comfortable than the last time you had to sleep over at the dwarves'.

The food is well organized, a dwarf with a missing leg is working on the corner of their holy smelter and cooking some eggs, and meat of some beast. A dozen dwarves have had the same idea as you, the dwarven elder one of them.

'Vlad Tepish, by the ancestors if you wern't a sight for sore eyes last night.'
'How are we holding?'
'After you rode out into their caves they let up some. Not sure if they're back to full strength, but the golems are holding 'em back.'

You look on the dwarven elder, and see a strange look on his face. Gaunt paleness, but conviction and strength you had not seen in him before. He is wearing armour, black, and as if made of stone.

'Nice armour,'
'Aye. It will help save my people, so it is worth it.'
'What do you mean?'
'Unlike to survive it. It's all that's keepin' me together, though it's also what killed me.'
'Come again?'
'Oh you've lead tales of ancient dwarves. Full of heroic sacrifices and hopeless last stands. Doomed artifacts, cursed and blessed at once. This gives me strength enough to not rest, not get injured until it comes off. Then, well, way I understand it, most of me skin comes off too.'

'You know, I can probably put your skin back, on me, just this once?'
'Ach, lad, I don't know. Yer magic's pretty fucking dark for me.'
'Dark doesn't mean bad.'
'Tell it to the fucking spiders. The fucking drow. No, no, Vlad, you've shown that you are a honourable man, but your magic. Well, ask me again when it's coming off, alright?'
'Of course.'
'Good. About done?'
'Yes. Let us go.'
'Aye. Let's fuck some spiders up.'

You reach the living wall that is the golem defense. They do not kill many, but the spiders cannot kill the golems- the stone men are immune to their poison, and their fangs are not strong enough to crush stone. You know from experience, however, that eventually the sheer mass of the horde will eventually push the golems back.

>Repeat what you did last time, but with your mind and body fresh. Order the golems to split apart and ride out in the middle of the enemy ranks.
>Provide magical support. Reevaluate after you've caused some damage

27! Great Success!

While you do not feel the absolute clarity of mind you sensed while under the effects of the mind-enhancing potion, you do remember the decisions you made under the influence thereof. You reach out for the spirits of the deep roots over the caverns and you have them grow, twist, turn and smash the creatures. They have serious defences against many of your attacks, but this they cannot do much about.

You crush hundreds.

Your phantasms prove to be exceptionally useful here as well. Not hampered by either the crushing mass of arachnids nor the wall of living rock that are the golem warriors, they float in and out of formation, and while they do not kill any spiders, it is clear that they hurt them.

You have given the golems some relief, and they take a dozen steps forward. They have come to an opening of the cave, leading into a cavern- if they pressed on they would no longer provide a functional wall.

>Have them fall back while you sortie with the dwarven elder and your undead
>Have them hold the line, while you slowly beat down on all comers
>Shapeshift into something small, or astrally project (choose) to scout out the dark cavern ahead

Sorry, I am sort of opaque about some of the mechanics. Much of it will become more clear as the story progresses, and much of it is implied or hinted at if you read closely, but some of it just isn't information that would be available to Vlad and since metagaming is the entire point of quests for some people, I don't want the players knowing too much of what Vlad wouldn't

I do not feel ready voting on this now. Currently, I’m playing conservatively and trying to get any immortality options that don’t obstruct more paths.

For example: Building body-soul constructs as a fall-back in case we need to abandon our body has absolutely no drawback.

I really don’t feel like tying ourself down to one option.

A question: How would Hivemind interact with possession? Or with any of the other known options?

TSTG of House and Dominion does great polls. There should be more options for strawpoll. Being allowed to check each item independently instead of just checking one in the list is not the most advanced setting to implement after all.
>>
There are still many of them. No need to rush. You spend a lot of time, and a lot of your magical energies slowly reducing the number of the spiders, allowing the living soldiers on your side time to rest and recuperate. Against any other army this would have been a winning strategy, and a safe one at that, but the spiders seem to just keep coming.

An hour passes in grinding melee and a pile of ichor and chitin reaching meters high. Perhaps you can outlast them, but if you keep on the offence with magical attacks, even your significant reservoirs of magical energy will deplete eventually.

Aside from that, you are starting to feel a growing spiritual presence that you've learned to recognize as the spider queen. You cannot tell where exactly the creature is, but it seems to be getting closer.

>Hunt for the spider queen. You've held the line long enough, sortie with your undead (take dwarves y/n)

But my post had literally nothing to do with people being or not being a shit. OP decided to use strawpoll. I suggested using a different setting for strawpoll. Where does people being shit come in?
>>
The reason for the strawpoll was actually less about cheating and more about indecision. If I ask for votes on chons, they are for one immortality option at a time, so everybody that wants an option that is something OTHER than the one provided right now would theoretically vote against it, thus making it nigh on impossible to actually get a confirmed option. Considering that the first volume is already overrunning by 6 chapters to what I had planned, I do want to at least be moving towards a conclusion. As for the mechanics of the vote, I'd be likely to call for a confirm-vote, or something like that next thread, if we didn't have a full majority option right now. I still might, but if you guys want dragon-related stuff, you'll get it. Multiple options just lets me see what most people would be willing to settle on, not what most people want.

>Hunt the queen

That is enough. You stop your channeling and you speak to the stone guardians.

'Break, I am riding out.'

They open a path for you, and immediately more of the horde skitters through. Your undead meet them, beating the spiders back. You raise the spiders momentarily, only to sacrifice them as pawns seconds later. You ride out into the spider-filled cavern.

>Human form, dragon scale, sword and staff.
>Dire bear form, charge alongside your monsters and beasts.

Combat 24! Success! Awareness Nat 20! First of all, you have learned Awareness 3. Second,

It still takes time for all but your phantasms to kill the creatures, but your cavalry advances at a good pace, even killing spiders under your mounts.

As soon as you leave the safety of the walls behind, you focus on your shaman's senses and sense the spiritual presence of the spider queen among the thousand other smaller ones and you can pinpoint her immediately. You focus for a second and you call your gargantuan tarantula hawk spirit back from your temple, and it reaches you within seconds. You have a significant spiritual presence on the battlefield too now.

24! Marginal Failure The Worst Kind of Failure 25! Marginal Success, the best kind of success!

Leaving your body in this environment is disconcerting to say the least. The darkness and the pressure of spirit energy coming from the countless smaller spider spirits slows you, and by the time you get to the spider queen it has noticed your presence. The creature skitters and its spirit shatters into a thousand spiders- no larger than a harmless forest spider, but each dangerous, and with the spirit shattered into a thousand pieces, you cannot target it easily.

Then you realize that the laws of gravity do not apply in the astral realm, and the thousand thousand spiders zone in on you and start poisoning you, biting your spirit tiny bite by bite.

You have taken one mental wound. You are fine for now.

Then you hear a buzzing, so loud as if it was a saw, so high-pitched it might be a scream and the other spiritual construct of yours does what is its purpose. It kills spiders. The targets are tiny, but it is precise beyond natural means. Every time it kills a spider with its needle-point stinger, a wasp spirit, slightly smaller than the spider spirit it killed bursts out of the body of the dead spider. Soon, the swarm of tarantula hawks is getting to the point where, if not matching, it comes to a comparable size of the spider swarm. And your spirit guardian also remains its original size, leading its own army of dead.

25! Success!

You understand your mistake as soon as you see the wasp spirit gathering its forces. You are not a singular spiritual entity to match the spider queen, but you can manipulate the flow of spirit. You use the spirits of the dead and dying spiders and construct an army of ghosts. You create an image of your sword and staff in your hands and you lead the army of phantasms as an intangible ghost yourself.

That hurts the spider queen. You cannot kill her, and you cannot squash enough spiders to make the difference, but it is on the defensive. The queen reforms her spirit into one gargantuan spider body and now you feel that your army is dwarfed by the massive form of the creature looming above you.

You dodge and weave, lighter than air, though spit of acid poison melts some of your armies, and sticky webs catch both your phantasms and wasps.

Now that it has reformed you can try to manipulate the spirit more directly

My first time contributing (i've read the archives, they were glorious) and i wonder, in what Vladimir Tepish is dressed right now? Is he still wearing rags from the beginning? I've generally left this pretty nebulous, but you've had access to spider silk far more than enough to create silk clothes. If you all want to figure out what he would look like now, feel free. Don't think you have any armour though.

29! Great Success!

The plagues and curses the creatures are immune to in flesh and ichor is murder to in the spirit realm. The great creature's exoskeleton breaks out in boils and goes soft as you curse its endurance and pour disease into its soul. It screams and you are enveloped in a cloud of tarantula hawks, corpse flies and dark spirits. You jump, you need not take mind of the constraints of gravity any more than the queen does, and you latch on to it. And you stab at its eyes again and again, with your sword, with your fingers, even with your teeth- as fangs sprout from your mouth one moment and are gone the next.

The creature falters.

This... this is not going to be easy. But the spirit is weakened and the queen is reeling. If ever can you wrest the spirit under your control it is now. It is an almost indescribable sensation. It is as if you breathe in with your entire body, and you never need stop inhaling. Nor can you. Only after what seems like forever do you manage to actually reduce the spirit in size. Only after another eternity do you have it subdued, but you have done it.

While the tarantula hawk has been keeping you mostly protected, you have been battered by the desparate flailings of the spider queen, and you have been overcasting hard.

'Fuck you, buddy. My creatures will take care of any remnants of the pathetic force I just destroyed, I'll have a nap and be good as rain.'

You were expecting the pain.

'I- don't call that much of an argument you dickless, insignificant, forgotten relic of a-'

Yep. Searing pain. That happens a lot when you open your mouth now that you think about it.

'What am I the God of?' it says

'Oh fuck you, you cannot take my undead. You would have done it before if you could.'

You are a tiny figure atop a mountain of skulls, shouting mockery and hate at the god of undeath.

'Perhaps I can stop them for just long enough. Perhaps, my power has been waxing not waning as you seem to believe.'

'Give it your best shot, you insufferable...'

The torment lasts for a subjective hour. Then you say something equally flippant. Then more pain.

'Sorry, I cannot hear you with all of that Pern's dick in your mouth.'

The pain restarts once more. It is sharper this time, but it subsides much sooner.

You have a total of four mental wounds. You are on the border of permanent mental scarring from your torment and most mental tasks will have severe penalties.

'What do you know of Pern, fool?'
'Almost as big a dick as you, so can't you just kill each other and get it over with?'

fuck you nigga we know that shit is gonna give you a chance to have control over us.
>You get me back up and I stay out of your way if you stay out of mine and furthermore I try to harm Pern whenever I can.
hell this sentence alone can be used in many ways that he can grab us in the balls.
he can intentionally get in our way or force us to go after perm.

Seconding this, what if he wants souls of our allies or something we wouldn't like? He still would be able to fuck with us, but not directly, while we would be pretty boned with this binding.

'I am hesitant to accept those terms. I would be a fool not to expect a god to outsmart me.'
'Feel free to ask further.'
'Well, I suppose we should define every part of the deal...'

You fear that time might flow differently in this realm and you keep talking calmly, reasonably and with some of your flippancy to make the god not suspect a thing. You set out the specific points of the deal, find and close loopholes, and you bargain for more agreeable terms- more power, in exchange for less freedom and so forth.

You think that this 'god' has missed having mortal company. It seems more interested in talking to you than actually setting out the terms (though it too drives a hard bargain), and after what feels like hours you do feel as if being shaken awake from a dream.

As you awake you say to the god of undeath. 'You will take me at my word. I will not be tempted by your rewards and I will not be moved by your threats. I was dragged here by your will, and I am leaving here by mine. As far as I am concerned the deal stands, so long as you do not break your word.'

And then you are on the slab, back in the dwarven runeforge halls. You are shaking as you feel freezing cold. You are covered in cold sweat as you feel terror that does not come from within. But you awaken and you bring yourself under control.

You have three mental wounds.

As you sit up you hear cheers from a dozen dwarves, all that remains of the tribe- beaten, battered, and exhausted creatures hail you as a hero and chant your name.

Your relationship with the dwarves has improved.

'The elder,' you say, once you check yourself for physical damage- aside from few surface scars you are fine, 'where is he?'
'Well, we had to take his armour off a few hours back. He said to tell you he never changed his mind with his last words.'
'Coherent words?'
'Aye. That dwarf was made of rock and balls.'
'I see.'
'Oh. And of course we got to give you a proper reward. Runecraft armour seems fitting,'

>You think that this 'god' has missed having mortal company. It seems more interested in talking to you than actually setting out the terms

Shit, now i feel somehow bad for him. He wanted company all this time and the firts thing when we seen his altar? Took a piss on him.
I feel even worse after realising that.
>>
>>42763991
Probably not.
>>
>>42763993
He had plenty of company remember the drow? Hes still a dick.
>>
>>42763993
I don't.

Every "God" of powerful spirit we have ever met has been a turbo-faggot.

Fuck this guy, he tried to give us nightmares to try and control us. Pern tried to have us killed. Even Grish wanted us dead. Grish was the ONLY one who was justified, and he went about it like a prick, we we're willing to let the forest go back to normal, but he had to be a dick anyway.
>>
>>42763839
>he never changed his mind
man, another great soul who's passing we had to witness. I guess it comes with trying to be immortal.
Also, perhaps we should visit Garuth sometimes, maybe we could play chess
, or something
>>42763991
I think we did, we only failed the endurance test
>>
>>42763839
'That does not seem so good of an idea. I plan to live forever, after all.'
'Oh nay, that one was special. the elder fought for a week straight, he killed most of the spiders himself after you broke the queen.'

You remember waking up with a gargantuan spider fang on your chest, all but bursting with spiritual energy. You must have bound it before collapsing of exhaustion.

'So, what sort of runecrafted armour can you make?'

>Refuse entirely
>Accept, and if so:

first

>Plate. Heavy armor, best protection and a the mobility is not as awful as you might think. That said, many agility tests will take a penalty, as will endurance. Donning and doffing it will also take some twenty minutes if you have someone to assist you.

>Chain shirt and greaves. You can put these on yourself, and it will provide a good amount of protection while being somewhat lighter and easier to move in than full plate.

>Embroider runes on your robes. No added protection, but can gain the benefits of runes.

Second, runes

>Mirroring- a portion of damage you take is reflected to the enemy
>Mana battery- every time you cast a spell in this armour some of your excess magical energy gets caught in it, effectively allowing you to cast more before overcasting

>Illusion: The armor shimmers strangely and makes you go transparent at random intervals, shifting in color and intensity, making you harder to hit.

>Protection from elements: You are comfortable in any natural environment, and you gain bonuses in extreme circumstances.

>>42763991
You did.
>>
>>42763993
I didn't vote for that option at the time, but I imagine people were pissed at him for sending us constant nightmares when we tried to sleep, and centain people wanted to stick with the dracula theme and literally piss on all the gods.

"You must know your friendship is even a greater reward"

DeadQM, if we take plate now, and increase our strength later, with a homonculy body or something, would the penalty persist?
Depending on the answer, plate or chainmail

>Mana battery- every time you cast a spell in this armour some of your excess magical energy gets caught in it, effectively allowing you to cast more before overcasting
>>
>>42764102
Chain shirt and mana battery.

I assume we can wear our robes over armor (like in morrowind)

I myself was also under the impression that he is after Vlad and Lathrien's soul.
This might or might not be the case anymore
>>
>>42764177
Plate is inflexible, chain is all the wight heaped onto your shoulders.

While you can move more freely while wearing chain, it is more tiring, because plate is fitted with tons of weight distribution in mind, whereas chain is not.

That being said, I am not QM.
>>
>>42764102
We’re a shapeshifter. That’s the only reason I’m picking
>Robes

As for runes:
>Protection from elements
Reason: I don’t see us getting that bonus otherwise and I like it.
I don’t like Mirroring, we do enough damage already
We will probably build Mana batteries ourselves one day
We can do Illusions ourselves
>>
>>42764232
Probably less of a problem if we had a tireless immortal body though.
>>
>>42764237
Doesn't out clothes shapshift too?
>>
>>42764102
>>Mana battery- every time you cast a spell in this armour some of your excess magical energy gets caught in it, effectively allowing you to cast more before overcasting
plate or chain
>>
>Chain Mana battery

'I am always pleased to help your people as much as I can, but I could certainly use the protection in days to come,'
'Of course, Vlad Tepish. It would be an insult from us to not give you a grand reward. You have more than earned it. So, let us talk details.'

You go over the designs of the armour, and learn that it would take nearly a month to be made. It will be sent to your home once it is ready, unless you are planning to stay here a while longer.

And indeed, the cavern where the battle took place is massive and the only person to have explored it fully is dead now. There might be something interesting to explore within... next time, on Feral Necromancer Quest.

With this concludes the twenty sixth installment of Feral Necromancer Quest. Primary goal check, secondary check, you have gained 3 exp.

Don't think there's much you can do with three exp, and if I'm correct there isn't anything banked right now, so I'll assume bank for now, unless you want to up some low stat or skill.

We missing the full 5 point for shamanism 8?

How would people feel about saving it for necromancy 9? soon, after shamanism.
>>
>>42764563
Necro is good where it is, we don't need to touch it for awhile. I'd rather level up shaman then dragon
>>
>>42764563
Sarg, pastbin is out of date, we're maxed at Necro 9 and Shman 8, saving for max shaman then switching to Draco cus that'll become our primary.
>>
>>42764563
Necro should be at 9, shit, have I really not updated the pastebin for so long?
>>
>>42764497
I hope things straighten out for you.
and not just because it will be hard for me to follow your quests on my phone in class.
>>
Don't kill me, but i still want Vladimir to become a Lich. I want him to become something akin to Ainz, but at the same time totally different.
>>
>>42764717
I could only see Vladimir becomeing like Ainz if all his friends, including his wife, died and he wasn't able to save them.

It's also bad for anumber of reasons we've already went over, by just going pure litch we lose many of our senses over time.
>>
>>42764787
It's still appealing for me, mostly because with our level of magic, and by extension, magic as a whole in the setting, we can overcome most of the weaknessess of lich, while still being able to live happily with our wife.
>>
>>42764617
seems so.
well then I am all for draconic magic 4.
Or saving for shamanism, since thats now our primary, and gotta love necro+sham combo's.
>>
>>42764910
I'd go with Shamanism. I'm secretly hoping we can choose Draconic as the next primary school, and I am curious about this "most powerful evocation"
>>
Jesus I had to drop overlord, it actually got to dark in the latest chapters. I seriously cried over some of the shit in them
>>
>>42764910
Sarg, please read the threads to the end, we already have Draconic Magic 4.

Our int is also at 4
>>
>>42764870
We won't be happy.

Lich takes away significant feelings.

Also, no dick, no way.
>>
>>42764967
I tried reading the Light novel, but I dropped it when Ainz got to the part where his vampire follower got mind controlled.

That scene broke my immersion, not to mention Ainz became an unlikeable shit, and started murdering people because it was convinent for him.
>>
>>42765013
They would still be there, just dulled.
That said, I am against it myself.
Also, the penis is a strong argument.
>>
>>42765041
Yeah that's about the point I dropped, but I skipped ahead to the later chapters and JESUS it turn in to dark souls, there's actually a chapter where the younger sisters of an adventurer ainz murdered are asking when their older sister's coming back so they can get away from their (implied abusive) parents. I mean JESUS
>>
>>42765061
>Also, the penis is a strong argument.

It's very hard to refute.
>>
I've updated the numbers in the pastebin, I'll do descriptions, spells and equipment before the next game
>>
>>42765013
>>42765061
>>42765089
There's that one doujin where Ainz fucks Albedo. Would give link, but look for it, it's worth it.

I know that's not even argument, but the information that it exists is something? I don't fucking know what i'm doing with my life.
>>
>>42765282
I really really didn't need that information, thank you.
