Spinning.

Everything is spinning. My head is spinning, the world is spinning, the stars are spinning. Spinning, spinning as if they've forgotten what else to do. Maybe that's all there is to do. I'm cold, cold like the hard floor I feel against my body, cold like the wind that slides across my...

My...

"WHY AM I NAKED?"

With a jolt, I push myself unto my feet, a distinct lack of cloth brushing against my skin. I try to open my eyes to confirm the nightmare, but nothing happens. It is only a few moments later that I realize they were open all along. It's dark here, pitch black. I cannot even see my own hand before me.

A different kind of nightmare?

"Hello?"

Not even so much as an echo with the common manners to respond.

I remember now, I was performing my Rite of Initiation, the trial standing between me and becoming Mistress' apprentice. And I think I passed too, didn't I? I did everything the notebook said to-

"The notebook!"

That's right! I lost it, it was gone when I went to collect it after the Rite! Along with my clothes! Who would steal clothes from an innocent little girl? And this far in the woods too, on the one night of the year nobody sane would dare to go outside? And will Mistress ever forgive me for losing the book she gave me?

A sudden flash of light burns my vision away, fully replacing black with searing white. As my eyes slowly adjust, I can finally examine my surroundings. What had seemed like a vast and open space, reveals itself to be only a small, closed room, no larger than my own bedroom. Unlike my bedroom however, it is composed of dark, rich wood and furnished with a vermillion red carpet, complete with a golden rim.

The walls are each decorated by large portraits, nearly extending from one corner to the other. On my right, the face I have seen more than any other the last three days, Mistress. Or Julie, according to the notebook she gave me. But she probably still wants me to call her Mistress.
On the left, is Papa, in the same work clothes he wears from morning to eve in his workshop. The artist even caught the way the vein on his forehead pumps up when he's sweating. But who would make a portrait of Papa? He can't afford to commission a painter.
And finally, on the wall behind me, is... me. Though unlike me, the painted me has retained the honor of wearing her dress. Unlike the other two who seem to be staring right at me, she, or I, am holding my hands in front of my eyes, frowning slightly. I don't remember anyone ever painting this either.

Back on floor level, I see the things I feel I was probably meant to look at first. In the center of the room, stored on a bright stone pedestal, a glowing sparkle sits motionlessly, reminding me again of the Rite I just underwent. Unlike the previous sparkles, all either red or blue, this one is distinctly purple. Before it, written on a folded piece of paper, a warning: "DO NOT TOUCH!"

Behind that, a door of some slightly darker variety of wood and adorned with a golden handle. Notably, there's no visible lock. The only way out, it would seem, if not for the posted sign in front: "NO ENTRY!"

As I weigh my options, I feel the painted eyes of Mistress and Papa staring at me, judging me and my indecisiveness. Easy for them to be judgmental, they're just paintings, they can't lost anything here! I mean sure, this is probably a dream of some kind, but that doesn't mean it can't be part of the test. Or dangerous!

On one hand, I have been forbidden from doing anything, so I probably shouldn't. On the other, if I do nothing, won't I be stuck here forever? I don't like that idea, and I don't like this fake Papa and fake Mistress. They're not being nice at all! I'm definitely getting out here!

But first... that sparkle sure is pretty. And it's not like the others, so maybe it's not bad to touch? And even if it is, this is just a dream! It couldn't possibly hurt to try... Just touch it, just for a moment, see what happens. Look at it, it's so pretty, how could something so pretty be bad? I'm pretty, and I'm very good! That means pretty things are goo-

No! What are you thinking, Nadja? Sparkles are bad, we know that!

Right, right, you're right. Best to just get out of here.

Casting a last, wondering glance, I carefully step around the sparkle. Whatever secret it's hiding, I'll never know.

With a sigh of relief that it is not locked, I drag the heavy door open, wishing silently that someone on the other side has spare clothes for me. Or better yet, nobody is there except for a spare set of clothes. That'd be great. Then again, when do you ever get exactly what you want? Certainly not today, as yet another pitch black room is revealed. Or maybe it's a hallway, or something entirely else. How can I know when I can't see it?

I am given little time to ponder that question, as the door suddenly and violently slams shut, knocking me head first into the floor. A much, much harder floor, as it turns out.

When I recover myself, I find the complete darkness replaced by... slightly less darkness, and a lot more confusing. All around me are the largest windows I've ever seen, as large as entire walls, and beyond them, a nightsky with no ground and filled by giant moons, much larger even than both Sisters combined. And I'm pretty sure none of these moons are the ones I know!

Before the strange windows, a silhouette stands gazing upon the eerie sight. I'm about to call out and ask it if it has spare clothes when it preemptively cuts me off, speaking with a voice that seems to come from everywhere around me.

"Your task is not complete, Little One. Do not fear, you will be free soon enough."

My... task? I don't understand what she is talking about, but somehow the voice seems soothing. Soft, gentle, and caring. I feel that I can trust her. Is she a she? She feels like a she.

"Be safe, Child."

With those words, I feel myself flung... Backward? ...Forward?

Inward?

With a thump, I find myself back in more familiar surroundings, the same clearing that my Rite took place in, complete with the four stone pillars. It looked prettier when it was filled with colorful glowing death-balls if I'm honest, but I welcome it nonetheless. What a nonsensical dream! Must have been an effect of the sparkles in the ground or something.

Sadly, the dream has done nothing to aid in my more immediate problem, the case of my missing clothing, and backpack. Thankfully it's not too cold, but... I really need to find my clothes! Or any clothes!

I should really go back to Mistress and ask for her help. She'd probably be disappointed in me, but at least with her help we'll be sure to get the notebook back before anyone who shouldn't see it gets a look inside. She'd probably think that's even more important.

But if she never even knew, that'd be even better! Especially since she won't see me like... like this! Seriously, what kind of sadist steals your clothes like that?

Okay now, think. Tracking, that's the kind of thing Amalia knows. What would she do first? Look for things that are out of place, right?

The grass where I left my backpack is still pressed down noticably. But that only tells me that's where it used to be...

Aha! There, on the ground beside it, something has been dragged across the ground in a straight line. That's got to be my stuff! Though why did the thief drag my bag across the ground and why didn't they leave any footprints?

I follow the track out of the clearing, back amid the bushes and trees. I believe I'm headed east, but I'm not sure anymore. I'm too focused on trying to stay hidden, sprinting from tree to tree while covering myself as well as I can.

Wherever you are, thief, you'd better prepare yourself, because when I find you I'll... I'll... do bad things to you!

Whoever this thief was, they did a really bad job at covering their tracks. Or maybe they never even tried. And if I didn't have to constantly try to cover myself I bet I'd have caught them already!

That said, a distinct rustle of branches up ahead alerts me to the presence of another. And it sounds like they're coming this way! As quickly as I can, I leap behind the nearest tree, pressing myself against it to make myself as difficult to spot as possible, holding my breath as I do so.

Several moments pass in nearly complete silence. Finally the unseen stranger lets out a soft sigh before reassuming their previous pace, continuing straight in my direction. If I do this right, they'll walk right past me!

One, two, almost there now. The stranger steps lightly, as if searching for something themselves.

Three, four. They must be right beside me now!

Five steps, and a long leather boot comes into view. Six steps, and it's partner follows, both boots belonging to a thin pair of legs, leading up to a thin, agile frame, crowned by a head of short black hair with a cute little pair of...

"Amalia!"

With cat-like reflexes, Amalia turns on the spot, her bow at the ready with an arrow pointed straight at my head. The tension quickly wanes however when she realizes who she's looking at.

"Nadja?"

She looks me up and down and her look of confusion turns to a soft smile.

"This whatchu stay out all night for?"

"Bwuh? What do you mea-" Oh right. "Hey no looking!"

"Hrm." Amalia's replies are as brief as ever. She does turn her head, at least.

"You... wouldn't happen to have brought spare clothes, would you?"

"Nope. Whatchu do to yours?"

Of course not. Why would she expect to need that?

"Well.."

This seems a little difficult to explain.

"I'll explain later, first we need to go catch the ones that stole my stuff!"

Amalia grunts in acknowledgement. She's never really been the kind that says anything more than necessary. In fact, she avoids most people altogether and spends most of her time out here in the forest, and she's really good at finding her way in the forest because of it. Though the large ears might help a bit too with trying to find things. Still, she missed me just before so they can't be quite as good as the real animals.

Good thing she's smarter than them. And me, I'm pretty sure, even if she usually keeps it hidden behind her silence. She drops to a knee, takes a brief look around her, then points to the same mark I had been following, looking up at me before remembering that I asked her not to look.

...why is she smiling like that?

"Your target?"

"Yes, I was following it when I heard you."

She frowns, dissatisfied. "Got lucky."

"That's not the poi-"

"Easy prey, Nadja."

She springs back on her feet and sets a brisk pace in the direction of the tracks.

"Easy hunt."

At the pace she's setting, I have little time to worry about trying to stay decent, just barely keeping up with her confident steps. Of course, she's wearing long boots so she doesn't have to worry about getting scratched by every bush she passes by. I'll be a mess when I get out of this dumb forest!

At least she's not trying to peek anymore.

Just a few minutes later she stops abruptly, her right hand raised behind her, signaling me to stay put. Her ears perk up, turning slightly about as she listens for something. I try to listen, but I don't hear anything at all.

A short while later she seems to reach the same conclusion, returning to a cautious, light pace. And in that very same moment, a red flash bursts forth from a bush on our left, rushing past her face and circling around the both of us while laughing maniacally and leaving a glittering red trail behind.

Finally, the flash settles in place, allowing me to get a proper look. Body of a tiny, young girl, short read hair, dress made of flower petals, and insect-like wings on her back casting crimson red glitters behind her..

"Fairy." Amalia confirms.

"Hello hello hello!" The fairy almost seems to burst with joy as she speaks. "You are human girls from human village? I am fairy girl from fairy village! My name is Flimflam! You want to be my human friends? Tell me human names!"

Silly Amalia! She seems friendly and her dress is sooooo cute! Who could ever want to kill a cute little fairy like that?

"Hello Flimflam! My name is Nadja, and this is my bestest friend Amalia!"

Flimflam bobs up and down in the air as she responds cheerfully. "Hooray! Names exchanged! Friendship level one achieved! Ding ding ding!"

Wha-? Friendship level one? Must be a fairy thing.

"Let's make many more friendship levels Nadja and Amalia Kill! Games! Playing games make many friendship points! But what game to play?"

"How 'bout Smoosh the Fairy?" Amalia rudely interjects.

"No!" Flimflam cries out, angered. "Two against one! Not fair! Need more fairy friends to make the game fair! But you are my human friends, not theirs! Stupid fairies should find their own human friends instead of stealing mine!"

I should probably step in before Amalia makes things even worse.

"Actually, Flimflam, I have a big problem."

Somehow, every part of her being seems to slump upon hearing this, she even seems to stop glowing entirely. "You are sad, Nadja?"

"I'm very sad, Flimflam. You see, someone has stolen my backpack and clothes while I wasn't looking. If I don't get them back I'll be in big trouble!"

Immediately, Flimflam lights up again, as cheerful as she was when she first surprised us. "I saw backpack and pretty white dress! Human-sized, no good for fairies! Come on, I'll show you!"

She darts off deeper into the woods before remembering us, settling for making wide circles to slow herself down to our pace. I try to follow her, but Amalia grabs me by the wrist and pulls me back. She points to the ground, showing the direction of the tracks we've been following. They're completely different from where Flimflam is trying to lead us.

"The fairy is lying." She growls.

I don't even care that it's probably a terrible idea, the fairy is cute.
>>
>>42741634
I hate to admit it, especially since she's so cute and friendly, but Flimflam does seem to be trying to trick me. But why is she doing that if she's so obsessed with making friends? I'll give her a chance to explain.

"Flimflam!" I call her back. "The tracks we've been following lead this way. How come you're trying to lead us a different way."

"Uhhhh," she starts twirling about herself as she thinks up a response. "I know a shortcut! Yes, very quick shortcut, your way is much slower!"

"The tracks lead in a straight line." I reply. "And a straight line is always the shortest path, your way can't be a shortcut."

"Uhhhh," she begins once more. "I uhm, you're right! I got confused. Secret stash is so secret even I forgot where it is!"

"YOUR secret stash?" The anger in Amalia's voice shines through clear as day.

"Oh yes, very secret, very clever! Come on, I'll show you where it is!" The fairy chirps, before setting off in the exact same direction she was trying to lead us before.

Clearly pushed beyond her limit, Amalia makes no hesitation as she draws an arrow from her quiver.

"No, wait!"

I try to stop her, but she moves far quicker than me and before I know it, she has already loosed her arrow. I can only watch as Flimflam explodes into a shower of glitter, leaving a single pair of red sparkles floating where she had been. A moment later, both appear to be sucked away into the direction she was trying to lead us. All that remains of the act at all is the arrow stuck in an unlucky tree.

"You killed her!" I yell at the top of my lungs.

Amalia merely shakes her head in rejection. "I wish."

"Bwuh? What else do you call THAT?"

She calmly proceeds toward the unfortunate tree, tearing the arrow from its bark and returning it to her quiver. "Not that easy. She'll be back."

Carefully, she avoids actually looking at me as she returns to my side, then grabs me by the hand to drag me back on track with her. "Wasting time."

Amalia shows absolutely no surprise when, just on the other side of the bush Flimflam had appeared from, she finds a backpack and my dress, and, in a perfect display of our difference in priorities, tosses the backpack into my hands.

"All there?" She asks.

"Let me get dressed first, Amalia!"

She looks down at the dress in her hands, mystified. I don't think she's ever worn a dress, but she's seen me wear them plenty of times so I don't know what she's so confused about.

"Amalia!"

Jumping in surprise, as if she had been abruptly woken from a dream, she finally hands me my dress. She waits patiently as I take the time to tie up every bow extra-neatly. More than ever, I want to make sure everything is perfect!

"Kerstin is worried." She suddenly blurts out of nowhere.

"What?" I can only mumble in confusion.

"She told your father you were staying with her for the night. She lied."

Oh. Kerstin covered for me so Papa wouldn't worry. Even though I didn't ask her to...

"Asked me to look for you."

"Done!" I happily announce after making sure every bow is exactly how it should be. Well, as good as it gets without a brush.

"You should visit Kerstin soon."

Even with just a few words, she manages to make her meaning crystal clear to me. It was irresponsible of me to leave without a word, and I owe Kerstin for putting her through that worry. For someone who doesn't like being with other people, Amalia can be incredibly sharp at noticing things.

"Ready to go?"

"Just a moment," I still haven't checked the backpack. Let's see, herbs, compass, notebook, and in a cruel play of irony, spare clothes. "It's all here. Ready!"

>"I need to visit my Mistress first and let her know I completed my Rite."
>"Let's head back to Hinde, I owe Kerstin an explanation."

She's going to end up having to physically force Nadja to take a day off, isn't she?
>>

They won't stop until they can lewd her.
>>
>>42743142
Well, we're just stopping by FriendQM! We'd want to go to Hinde later anyway right? Better to see Mistress then go home than bounce back and forth.
>>
>>42743142
Gotta help Papa boss
>>
>>42743142
We're going back to town later, seems rude to not visit mistress first.
>>
>>42743142
We are loyal to our mistress!

And last we saw her she looked pretty down so it would be a dick move to not go and say it went well.
>>
>>42743142
She's kinda on the way to town anyway.
>>
>>42743142
Kerstin's expectations aren't going to change soon, we are already missing and missing a little longer isn't that different, we can't avert much worry. From Mistress' perspective, she knows what we were doing and her expectations regarding our well being are going to change dramatically if we don't turn up soon.
>>
>>42743201
I'm sure everyone here fully understands how far out Nadja's league she is.
>>
>>42743437
She's not out of Papa's league however, she's gunning for him.
>>
>>42742864
While I DO owe Kerstin for what I did, Mistress is probably very worried too! And I did upset her before leaving, so I should probably apologize for that?

"I need to visit my Mistress first and let her know I completed my Rite."

Wordlessly, Amalia settles in behind me, expecting me to lead the way. "Hold on."

I don't even remember which way is north and which is south right now. I can tell that Amalia knows, but instead of telling me she just leans back against a tree, watching me with a smile as I try to figure it out by looking at the sun. Eventually I manage to remember the compass in my backpack and within a few seconds I know roughly which way to go.

Amalia lets out a rare chuckle. "Cheater."

She's the one who taught me to, sort of, find my way around so I suppose it makes sense she'd want me to use her techniques. But aren't results more important. She doesn't bring it up again, at least.

"You convinced the old witch?"

For a moment I'm confused whether that was a statement or a question, only really confirming her intent when I glance back at her inquisitive look.

"Sure did!" I almost shout, so proud that I completely forgot to control my voice.

"Just last night I completed the Rite to become accepted as a proper witch's apprentice, but I impressed her so much she already taught me a little bit about witchcraft!"

"I mean I can't really do anything magical yet, but I bet I'll learn soon. And then I can use magic to help Papa, and you, and big sis, and everyone! I'll be the bestest and nicest witch ever!"

"Or well, maybe not TOO nice because then people would never leave me alone, but I'll definitely my family and friends! So if there's anything you need, just ask! Anything for my bestest friend!"
>>
>>42744205
"Oh, oh, and I met another witch too but she was just a little girl, even smaller than me! Isn't that crazy? She must have been a baby when she became a witch!"

"And there's supposed to be a witch in Hinde too, but I've never met her! Or maybe I have but she doesn't tell anyone she's a witch? Do you think I should keep it a secret from everyone too?"

"Oh, and this other night I-"

"We're here," Amalia interrupts. Sure enough, that's Mistress' house right there. I didn't even notice! Did I really talk all the way here? I didn't even ask her about her trip yet! And wait, am I allowed to show Amalia where Mistress lives?

Oh well, if I can trust Amalia then Mistress can too! As I climb the steps to her door, however, I am suddenly reminded of how we parted ways, and how upset she was. I'm still not sure why she reacted that way, I've never met anyone who didn't like getting hugged, but then I've never met a witch like her before. Maybe witches don't like getting hugged? I hope I never stop liking hugs.

"You gonna knock?" Amalia says as she pokes my arm with a finger to drag me back from the wild trail of thoughts. She seems more amused than annoyed, though.

"Well, I was just thinking abou-"

She knocks on the door.

Oh, I forgot to mention this!

[Nadja recovers her Notebook!]
> Nadja's Notebook: http://pastebin.com/k9cMVURJ (updated 18-09-2015)

From now on, I'll be opening up the Additional Pages section up to you guys. Sort of. The idea is for this bit to serve as YOUR notes, as Nadja's players, so I won't ever write anything in it. Instead, you guys can request to have anything you find worth noting about the quest added to this section. Could be just a reminder to yourselves, could be speculation, anything!

Since I can't really afford to open the notebook to public editing, what you need to do is make a request to have a note added to the notebook right here, in thread. Just try to make sure it's clearly marked so I don't miss it! And of course, I reserve the right to edit your notes to make them more Nadja, or reject them outright if they're not Nadja at all.

It's kind of a weird and experimental idea (someone's probably done it, but I don't know about so that makes it original!) that I hope will help you guys enjoy the quest more, and to help you keep your fellow players up to date.

As for next thread, I think I'll take tomorrow off but, due to everchanging student schedules, I should be able to run a thread on Monday. I can't promise it yet, but if I do miss Monday, next thread will be next weekend as always.

Sounds kind of cool, maybe we could already add something about how we met a nice fairy, but it lied to us.

Oh right, and thanks for playing!

I'm pretty sure I've only been getting slower, so I really do mean it. I've got a long list of excuses, but let's just say I'll try to get myself down to a less ridiculous update time in the (not-necessarily near) future. So thanks for putting up with me!

>>42744338
It took me a while to realize that you were asking about in-quest time, which should say something about my local time. It's still only the early afternoon, in part thanks to the fact that Nadja didn't sleep at all.

>>42744687
Can we add a note about that weird dream we had, and how it was weird. Maybe it'd be important later, so we better note it down.
