You stash the third deed to hell and pull out the materials to ready a mirror portal for Hestia.

It takes a bit of extra time to build it while you are carefully perched in the power armor. But eventually you get something big enough for a drone to come through, so you hook up the scanning probes and let Hestia do her thing.

The drones come through carrying much more material and build a larger portal, the small portal you made is dismantled and then buoys are dropped into the water through the new larger portal.

“Construction of anything meaningful in this location will be difficult,” Hestia says, “I have uncovered information about the troop deployment you may be interested in however.”

>Administration activity – Multiple sources are confirming that the invaders in the west are some sort of large strangely colored orbs. Large quantities of insulating materials are being shipped out west now as well.

“If you were wondering, I tamed the bird Ayla is playing with,” You tell Hestia, several drones suddenly get back to work, “I think I can summon it without needing a portal, so you will not need to enlarge them to bring it back to study. I think I’ll call it Izulu. ”

“The energy signatures the creature, Izulu, gives off are significant, I will prepare a laboratory large enough to hold it.”

what happens if we want to release something from being our familiar? Possibly to make room, is that possible?

Sure you can let things go.

The familiar bond doesn’t force creatures to like you, so if you bound something hostile it may very well still be when released though.

“Those buoys are sensors right?” you ask Hestia after you reseal the armor’s cockpit, “can you locate a sailing vessel?”

A map overlays on your HUD showing a blip far away from you.

“I have located the vessel, I am more interested in the life forms underwater though,” Hestia says, “I detect no plankton so it would be interesting to discover how the ecosystem is able to support this large number of mega beasts.”

“If the ocean is bottomless, it could also assist in developing stronger pressure resistant materials.”

“Yes, and you can fish for samples when I complete the construction project here,” Hestia agrees.

“I don’t know if there will ever be enough peace and quiet to go fishing,” you tell her.

“Ayla, Evangeline, Izulu lets go to the pirate ship once again,” you call out over the comms.

“Izulu?” the thunderbird thinks to you.

“That is you, master gave you a name!” Ayla says excitedly.

“Back to them? Why?” Evangeline asks, she thinks it’s pointless they couldn’t help last time.

“I am going to free them if I can,” you say.

On the way to the pirate vessel you reach out to think to Ayla, “would you like it if you didn’t remember my bad memories?”

“It was sad but no, why would I ever want to not know more about you master?” She thinks back at you, “instead let’s just make new happy memories together.”

You wonder if things can really be that simple and watch as Ayla guides Izulu to perform dives, flips and rolls alongside you.

When you draw near to the pirate ship Evangeline grabs your armor once again, “Go ahead then, talk to your skeleton friends, I’ll keep the armor moving with the ship,” She tells you.

“Thanks this shouldn’t take long,” you tell evangeline, you open the cockpit and drop down onto their deck again.

A pirate skeleton says,"Avast ye scurvy dog, ye be back too soon! T' crew be needin' more time t' think o' questions."

“I came to help the captain with your curse,” you tell them.

"T' only curse we be havin' be drownin' in grog and wenches when we reach port," the pirates cackle at you. They don’t try to block your path though so you just ignore them and go to see the captain.

The skeleton is still hard at work cross referencing charts and plotting a course.

“The seas are calmer, the storm is ending, if this was your doing, you certainly work fast,” The skeleton captain looks up at you, “From the looks of things it should only be a few years before we see clear skies, I thank you for your help.”

“I may be able to speed the process up a bit,” you tell him.

“How is such a thing even possible?”

“By controlling the weather.”

You think the captain looks at you in disbelief and confusion, but it’s pretty hard to tell since he is a skeleton.

“After killing the lord here, I took its power to change the weather, over time the storm should clear but I may be able to speed the process up a bit,” you explain to the captain.

“Well I hate them all, but shall we go to the crew?” The captain asks.

The pirates jeer at you when you exit the captain’s quarters but instantly stand at attention when the captain walks out behind you.

“Cap'an on deck, get t' work ye scallywags,” one of the crew shouts out and they all go about their business.

“Do your thing then, before we start talking like that too,” the captain says.

You focus your power on the sky above, this may be more difficult than you first expected.

>56

The storm begins to subside in the area around you, the clouds slowly start to brighten.

Outside of your reach there are lightning discharges as the storm is forced to alter its path around the area of growing calm air.

Bright fluffy white clouds sit above you now.

Ayla and Izulu play around in the discharging lightning and Evangeline stares in wonder watching the skies clear, she figures you are doing this and wonders if you can make snow.

You keep pushing harder though, the pirates needed clear skies to break the curse. The clouds grow thinner and thinner until a shaft of light pierces though.

(1/2)
>>
(2/2)

“Set sail for that light!” The captain yells out.

Skeletons and zombies hustle around pulling ropes and adjusting rigging. The ship slams roughly right into waves as it plows its way to the single point of clear sky.

You try to expand the hole in the storm to open the way to clear skies.

When the boat touches the light from above, something happens, the undead start regenerating. They look around in shock as they are brought back to life when the light reaches them.

“Let me do something more for you,” the skeleton captain says, “before I return to life I can help you with your curse.”

His skeletal fingers grip your shoulder, and you feel and unearthly chill emanating from the lich’s spell book.

>All DCs for lich spell book lowered to 27+2 per spell level. One spell of your choice except the one on the final page has had its curse lifted.

“It’s not much considering what you’ve done for us, but I hope helps,” The captain says.

He is the last one to be converted by to life, and when he is illuminated by the light, the ship and its crew suddenly vanish into thin air. Which leaves you to fall into the ocean, or it would if you couldn’t control water now. Carefully, you force the water’s surface tension to hold when you land, giving you a solid enough surface to stand on.

“Could use a little help here,” You call out to Evangeline.

“Are you walking on water?” She asks

“Not exactly, and I don’t know how long I can hold myself here,” You say as she floats in closer to you.

You make a rush of water carry you back up into the power armor, and seal the cockpit once more.

The patch of clear skies you made is slowly shrinking away, the storm’s power is still too much to stop right now. The lord must have been fueling it for a very long time.

>3 oh dear

You are about to tell everyone to start looking for something interesting when you feel a sudden shift in the behavior of the life underwater. It all starts fleeing rapidly in one direction.

The other way you feel a single source of life, and it dwarfs the lord.

The oppressive weight of its ancient mind is beyond your ability to read.

It stops below you, before bursting free of the ocean’s surface.

With a roar, a titanic dragon announces its presence to you.

“LITTLE MORTAL, YOU HAVE SLAIN THE LORD? HOW AMUSING.” A voice booms out, the water’s surface ripples from the force of the dragon talking.

Ayla is quivering in fear, she can’t believe that something like this exists, its power is unfathomable to her.

“WE SHALL PLAY A LITTLE GAME THEN LITTLE MORTAL. ANOTHER OF MY KIND HAS ANGERED ME, STEAL ONE OF THEIR EGGS FROM THE LAVA IN THE HELL ABOVE AND BRING IT TO ME.” The dragon roars at you, “IF YOU SUCCEED I WILL PERMIT YOU TO CONTROL THIS PLACE. YOUR MACHINES MAY STAY BUT I BANISH YOU AND YOURS FROM THIS PLACE UNTIL THE GAME IS WON.”

An unbelievable mass of mana is channeled, and a vortex of water rises up catching your group. Seconds later you find yourself drenched and scattered about in the second level of hell.

Quest? Gained
>An ancient dragon of immense power demands you steal an egg from another dragon in the first layer of hell. Failure to comply will result in an angry dragon.

“Th-th-THAT! Was a dragon?” Evangeline asks, she isn’t as afraid of it as Ayla was, “How can we fight something like that, or even steal a egg.”

“Not wet place?” Izulu asks and scratches at the ground.

“It didn’t give a time limit let’s just think for a moment,” you try to calm them down.

“Hestia did the sensors pick up what happened just now?” You ask.

“Negative, the sudden surge of mana overwhelmed both the capacity of the probes and the armor’s sensors” Her avatar appears on your HUD, “if you wish I will have drones begin scanning the lava fields to attempt to locate another dragon.”

“That will work, but for now we should all just go back home and rest up.”

“Yea that was pretty intense, I could use a nap,” Evangeline says, she was done after the lord appeared to be that strong.

“Home? Right, I can help,” Ayla grabs the power armor and the Izulu and shifts you back to the goblin city.

Lizards are everywhere, basking in the sun. You sense hostility from them, they don’t like anyone interrupting their basking. The giant lizard in particular is angry at Izulu, lizard doesn’t like shocky things.

“That makes things easier, thank you Ayla, prepare for teleport,” Hestia says.

You find yourself with Ayla back in your bedroom. She phases out of her clothes and flops into the bed, pulling the interface suit off, you join her. For once she just cuddles up against you happy to be here in this moment. Everything starts to feel a bit better as you start drifting off to sleep.

Hours later you wake up with Hestia snuggled against one side of you and Ayla having flipped upside down hugging your leg on the other. Aurora is idly kicking her feet in the air at the foot of the bed.

She sees that you are awake and shrugs, “You never gave me a room, so I just crash here.”

“This place is a mansion, there are other rooms with beds,” you tell her.

“This one smells better and usually you aren’t here,” she shrugs you off.

She wants to know where you went.

“I have prepared quarters for her, but she keeps wandering back here do you want locks put on your doors?” Hestia’s body awakens with a sudden start, she leans over a gives you a peck on the cheek and smiles. That makes Aurora feel a bit awkward, she thought Ayla was joking about you being with everyone. She also wants her rent and hover craft driving lessons though, it’s been months.

>>
Feeling a bit lazy after sleeping you decide to just ask Hestia to handle the rent situation.

“Hestia, what do we owe Aurora? Ten, fifteen thousand?” You ask, “Could you make a transfer from the casino profits to pay her.”

Aurora is surprised, she thought you forgot, wait was Evangeline telling the truth? Can you really read minds?

“Current casino funds are eighty four point seven million credits, transfer approved,” Hestia states a credit stick teleports in and drops on the bed in front of Aurora, “By slightly adjusting the odds to be more favorable to the patrons I have increased profits by four hundred percent.”

“How are the Don’s old people adjusting to the changes made?” You ask next.

“I assured their loyalty by increasing pay by thirty percent. The magic cards are still very loved by the dealers. The search for one ‘Richie’ has been suspended, the only remaining person Vicky knows of with that name join up with the armed forces, he is likely engaged in combat in the west as we speak.”

“I guess we just have to hope he lives then,” You say.

“Unless you are willing to engage the enemy and draw attention to yourself it seems so.”

“Aurora, since you are now living here, do we really need to keep paying rent?”

“Sure, I’ll even pay you rent for let me stay here. By my calculations that comes to nothing, since everything is free here,” She sticks her tongue out at you.

“Very funny, but we need to train to prepare for stealing this egg,” you say.

“Hestia, can you gather up everyone and some shadow companies, we are going to train moving around unseen and hiding first.”

“I can do that,” Aurora says confidently.

“Prepare for teleport,” Hestia tells you.

“Master?” Izulu asks when the teleport completes.

A moment later Tslah teleports in, she is relieved, she thought you might not like her anymore, she stays quiet and calm, there will be other chances to try again.

The giant lizard takes one look at Izulu, snorts and slithers off, lizard isn’t going to do things with a giant electricity bird.

Evangeline is still sleepy and yawns, “What are we doing here?”

“We are going to break up into teams, Evangeline, Ayla, Tslah, Aurora, and Izulu you all please take some shadow goblins and then we will basically play a game of hide and seek. The goal is to move your squad around through the city without being seen, you gain points every time you locate the others. Hestia will track everyone and see how often anyone gets found.”

“Does the winner get a prize?” Aurora asks, she wants to win a prize.

“If it helps motivate you, then sure,” You say.

“What about you master?” Ayla asks, she is going to win no matter what.

“I can sense you coming so I can easily find and avoid everyone, I’ll work with Hestia to oversee things.”

>55

After an hour or two of trying to hide everyone seems to get the hang of things and the training starts in earnest. You have to spend most of your time directing Izulu because she is a giant bird and has no idea what is going on.
>>
Final team ranking for stealth games
1 Ayla
2 Aurora
3 Evangeline
4 Tslah
5 Izulu

You’re pretty sure Ayla was cheating with mind reading and shape shifting to grow extra eyes, but everyone still learned something.

Then you make everyone work in more traditional training, strength, endurance, combat drills, agility drills, etc. This time Izulu does great, giant bird strength pulling her through the training without breaking a sweat. When everyone else is too worn out to move you make them use the learning program. Evangeline is the last one standing this time, she is very motivated to learn more spells, so she’ll sit and try break past where she gets stuck for hours on end.

The down side to training everyone is that you have to guide them and so don’t get much out of it yourself. Keeping track of where everyone went, especially Aurora and the shadow goblins got tricky a few times though.

>Training results
Stealth increase for everyone else
Dexterity and Perception increase for everyone else
Stat point gain for everyone else

Alright, so with luck at 70, its our closest stat to reaching 100. Let's plan now to put our end of thread exp into luck. If we focus now, we could have a shiny new 100 stat bonus skill by the end of next thread.
>>
>>42743379
That's if we get enough xp to blitz it.
>>
>>42743404

We get about 50 exp per thread usually. We need about 120 exp to get to 100 luck. We are getting a big mission after a dragon coming up. I'll bet that could push us over the edge.
>>
>>42743496
That is if we decide to rush off and fuck with a dragons nest.

How the hell are you supposed to hide in a lava-field? Those are flat as fuck, with essentially no cover, and they can span for fucking ages, especially in hell. We can fire splotches of darkness and hide in them, and who knows what the hell the momma dragon is capable of.

No, first, we investigate, we may not get to it next thread, either.

Information is what can make or break anything.

Normally I wouldn't be advocating caution so much, but fucking with dragons flips my panic switch. We've never fought a dragon, and fucking with a dragon's eggs as a "first encounter" sounds incredibly risky.
>>
>>42743596
We could honestly probably just diplomacy the dragons into being mature adults and settle their differences in a reasonable manner
Stealing eggs is fuckin immature as shit
These dragons need forced to grow up and handle matters like adults
>>
>>42743596

No matter how we deal with the dragon, as long as we are making progress, we'll (most likely) be fine. And its not like its the most horrible thing in the world if it takes 20 exp in a third thread either.

Plus, we have a few thousand unused souls. Stat increase is not an uncommon reward from them. That can also close the gap.

Nono, he doesn't mean the orbs, he means the generic souls we get from killing things.

Of which we have thousands, and we get every time we kill -anything- essentially (save non-living enemies, like robots, and maybe low-level undead).

If he wants to spend a charge on stats it'd be fine, though I personally would rather aim for ability modifiers, myself.
>>
>>42743893
The generic orbs are still usable for gaining abilities, and we dont exactly slaughter thousands of things that often. Each and every charge of the soul reaper ability should be put towards the rarest shit we can get with it.
>>
>>42743939
But then you are neglecting using it to amplify, or diversify yourself.

We could go down to the fourth level, and let the fifth lord keep sending up armies which we could keep gibbing til he sends up something serious with a real orb.

How we use the charges shouldn't be "hoard to gitgud" it should be "use to enhance"
>>
>>42743984
Enhancing yourself is what exp and training is for.
You really should know how this works by now.
>>
You make your rounds and speak with everyone, you start with a drone and tell Hestia that you want to help her research some things but you need to see the others first and since Aurora is admiring Izulu you start with them. You tell Aurora and Izulu that they did a good job training, they are both happy you recognized their hard work; Aurora is a bit mad that Ayla won though.

Tslah tries her best not to push her desire for children and marriage on you, it makes the conversation a bit weird. End the end she agrees to help collect data for Hestia to study Hellish abilities and hellfire. She is beating herself up for screwing up, and your indecision on speaking with her about it isn’t helping.

Ayla tackle hugs you and demands a prize for winning. You let her feed on your mana and let her take the jewelry and gems you’ve found recently. She floats away happily and goes to find Sazglangolor and some loot.

Then you get to something you’ve thought about a bit before, Evangeline is trained for power armor and she loves the suits Hestia makes. So you ask her to help train the goblins to use it effectively. Her eyes light up like its Christmas, and she happily agrees. Moments later she notices she’s been hugging you and

With a sigh you finish speaking to everyone.

“Getting to be too much to handle?” Hestia’s organic body approaches and asks.

“Maybe I just never thought about how my past would affect me, I’ve never had this level of stability before,” You tell her, “it was always mission after mission, never knowing when death will come.”

“That sounds like what you are still doing,” She says, “Take more time off, no one is asking you to bring order to hell or overthrow the corrupt regime above.”

“I, We, need to keep moving forward, right now there is still too many unknowns.”

Hestia takes your hand and gently leads you away.

“I’ll be there for whatever you need,” She tells you.

And for once, she lets you walk somewhere, strolling along holding you hand trying to support you for anything to want to do.

________________________________________

The city seems a bit larger when you have to walk, but you eventually find yourself before the research center. Hestia releases your hand and gives you a quick kiss.

“My body must get back to work now, the other humans are very demanding,” She tells you, “Do they really need to speak to me face to face? I can already hear and solve their problems before they make it to my office.”

After venting a bit she says, “I’ll be waiting to help you research.”

You let her rush away to deal with her human problems, then you head to a lab to start researching some things.

>60

In the lab there is a neural connection device, you sigh and put it on. Hestia doesn’t link with you this time but rather just takes detailed scans of your mind while you use psychic abilities. It actually takes hours of being scanned for Hestia to discover how telekinesis and telepathy works.

While resting between busts of psychic energy you try to allow data gathering on your holy aura, Hestia informs you that she is unable to replicate how it works, but the interaction of the holy energy with the environment has given her an idea. She tells you no more since she wants to surprise you.

Hestia continues her scans while you fire the bow you received from the skeleton captain. Being an AI prevents her from using it, but she studies the materials and how they change as well as the destructive power of the bow. She is very happy about the bow, and mutters something about cost savings at the casino

Pls.

Anon pls.

You aren't utilizing all of your tools to their fullest.

Use what you have to serve you when you need it, to not do so is wasting.
>>
You spend some time working out energy modulation equations with Hestia and come up with some sort of theory behind divine and hellish abilities. Hestia also managed to develop slight control over what you’ve been calling external mana. She doesn’t seem to care very much since it’s easier to build a few thousand more reactors and gain more mana output that way.

You are on a bit of a roll here studying things, perhaps there is something more you can do.

You pull out the crystal you found at the lich’s tomb, and set it down on the table.

“Hestia do you think it is possible to study this crystal without disrupting the control over the skeletons?”

“Unknown at this time, completing a study of the crystal should give insights into future artifacts that operate in a similar fashion,” She tells you.

“Let’s try to not break it then.”

>67

The intense study of the crystal by the combined might of you and Hestia has led to understanding how the crystal works. It triggers something equivalent to an animate skeleton spell. The crystal itself seems to be chosen for ease of breaking it so it would not fall into the wrong hands. The crystal is also carefully arranged to amplify the necromantic power to keep the skeletons reanimated permanently. From your study of the crystal you have been able to learn the spell.

>Spell learned
Animate skeleton: Cost 5 mana
This spell strips a corpse of flesh and brings the skeleton to life. The skeletons are not particularly intelligent but are able to work tirelessly. At a sufficient fount of necromantic energy the undead raised in this manner will stay reanimated forever, otherwise this effect lasts for three turns.

(1/2)
>>
(2/2)

“This spell may prove useful should you encounter another large army, I will work on creating an application for mass animation,” Hestia tells you.

“Why not use the stronger reanimation spell?”

“I will test both, the process of energy focusing from the crystal may not be sufficient to enable mass reanimation.”

“As always thank you for helping research Hestia, I know you’re busy but we couldn’t do most of what we do without you.”

Her avatar flickers and turns a bit purple.

“I always have time for you,” She nearly whispers.

No, but you can give Aurora one. She would rather sell it on the black market though.

>>
>>42745481

Convince aurora to use the implant, she should be glad to be offered something as useful as it. Would keep her youthful, healthy, and help her get over future illnesses she might get, in addition to the whole deal with being hard as fuck to kill in a fight.

As for the black market, its a bad idea to sell this stuff to criminals we might end up having to deal with later.

As a hidden function to do things like lifting the lord of hell, intense focus, rolling high and your luck also influence how strong the telekinetic force is.

So, what's the third lord's story?

Also, what are the other lords thinking after we've effortlessly killed three lords, ate all of their souls (including one that was JUST souls), and didnt even sign the deeds?
>>
>>42749113
I wouldn't say effortlessly for the third layer. If we hadn't found his soul, I doubt we would have killed him. He just seemed to big to fail.
>>
>>42749113
I'm more confused about why there was an ancient dragon on that layer of hell that didn't kill the lord personally.
>>
>>42749179
When in doubt, just keep cutting.

It was apparent it didn''t have good regen like we did, so we could have just sawed it in half and let it die.

We probably would have never got its soul if we killed it in a more traditional way, but we could have killed it, I believe.
>>
>>42749183
Dragons probably dont give a shit about ruling, i think. Probably just hunting and gathering the best stuff.
They probably suffer from a lot of vices, sloth being a popular one for dragons. Ruling is a lot of effort, you know.

I think each layer might have a dragon, personally. One and three are confirmed. Im willing to bet two has, or has had one.
>>
>>42748935
Oh my misunderstanding, sure you can do that, I’ll still let you have two dice for loot anyways.

Loots roughly works like this:

I randomly generate a bunch of stuff
Then generate special things based on dice roll
Then thematically alter stuff to fit the location, often poorly
Then remove or ‘enchant’ random or out of place objects
Then add in potential plot items based on dice roll
Then roll to see if things are in bad condition
Luck helps along the way too

Sometimes I wind up with something so far out of place so I then add in the extra step of making it all. Like that time you found one magical lamp.
>>
>>42749113
You know, we know a bit about the policies of the first two lords, but not their stories.
I want to know how they rose in power and such.

I currently think legion started as either an agreement between a group of demons, or the result of soul binding magic gone wrong. Possibly both.
>>
>>42749449
I just want to know why Headless fifth is trying to get the upper levels.

I mean, what could he do with more space?

Well, before we put a portal into it.
>>
>>42749113
It was a giant fish thing, it spent hundreds of years to build up a mega storm to fuel a version of what the dragon did to you. Only it was going to send its spawn into every plane that has water. It would have been an apocalypse for earth, so you saved the world good job.

4 is worried and surprised that a dragon would be relieving.

No, our first move was to destabilize the waterspout with a reverse flow tornado. It crashed it super easily.

Oh, the waterspout, I thought you were talking about the storm cover.

Derp.

Oi, need artwork of knights for the western front?

Char art thread is up right now, has some nice stuff in it.

>>42748964

Or you have some, and I'm useless, as usual.
>>
>>42749827
I grab art from every image dump I see. What I have not found is any decent pictures for what the invading side looks like. But they will probably all be fought off before you decide to check it out anyways.

Next thread, we should prepare to go help burgess, richie, and regrettably, max.
I want to steal the big damn hero moment right out from under max, and also learn about whats such a huge threat.

>The soldiers are bloodied and weary after fighting all day and all night for weeks
>things look grim
>a hundred thousand dots of light begin to form on the horizon
>an army of robots, goblins, and skeletons materialize out of nowhere, with a man in power armor clearly leading them
>they slaughter the entirety of the enemy forces in mere minutes, and disappear the exact same way they arrived
Opium is one hell of a drug, soldier.

>Can't find a single corpse from their number, are you sure you didn't hit your head?

Fucking Reggie, like a figure out of myth.
>>

The only thing marking their existence are the footprints they left.
Well, that, and the giant molten scar in the ground where the enemy army used to be.
>>
>>42750260
>all the officers INSIST those are the soldiers footprints, and that the terrain damage was caused by friendly weapons.

>Max is about to burst a vein in his head from the rage he feels at being one-upped in such a fashion

Might as well add all the things.
Make sure hestia is extremely fucking careful with antimatter research.

It grew a new head! It might not have had regeneration, like ours, but it had something. So, I have my doubts about that plan having worked.

One of the rules of hell, the False Lord claimed to be the ruler of that layer of hell, and the True Ruler,as an owner of a Hell Deed, was magically bound, and either could not or choose not to break those rules. If we do sign a hell deed, we will most likely attempt to break those rules, we just don't know how hard it is to break them so we have chosen not to sign anything yet.

>Hell rules

You may not enter another layer of hell without permission.
You may not leave hell.
>You may not attack any being that claims to be a ruler of hell.
You are bound to uphold your word.

All the rules of hell may be freely broken if you pass a very high will save.
