"Brobro should spearhead it, and I'll stay as backup. Garlic might be a bit less suspicious if he doesn't feel me coming for him, and Acer's smart. He'll be able to pull this off." As you explain more about your plan to her on the way, you meet with your brother, Chi-chi, Tao, Yajirobe, and Oolong, Roshi and the Ox King listening in. Explaining the situation to them, Oolong is initially reluctant, though your brother manages to convince him. acer also requests Tao assist them, seeing as he has... something of an expertise in this field. A promise of a healthy fee to pay for it manages to convince him as well.

With things set, you and Sanzo wait back, with you heading over to Chuu Lee. You see her staring out the window, trying to get her thoughts in order. You surprise her a little as she hears your voice behind her but after the initial shock, she seems a bit happier. "So... you kinda flew off there, Master. Something important?"

"Kinda. Managed to clear it up as best I could." you tell her. She raises an eyebrow, aware that there's more to it than you're letting on, but doesn't pry any deeper. You stand next to her, looking out the window as well. "Can't sleep, huh?"

She looks down with a sheepish smile. "Lot going through my head. I'm happy that I've gotten so far, but... I don't know what I'd do with myself if I won. And then I think, 'Isn't that a bit presumptuous?' And then I remember how much stronger you and Goku and Garlic are, and..." She runs her fingers through her hair. "Agh. What am I supposed to think, Master? Was... was it like this during your first Tournament?"

She nods. "Thanks, Master. I won't let you down."

You then sit down, telling her to sit by you. "Back at my first Tournament, and even at the second, well... I decided on meditating on something like this. Wanna try it with me?"

She blinks and considers it for a moment. With a cheeky grin, she lets out a calmed "Sure." and sits next to you.

The two of you take some time to collect your thoughts, focusing on them, and clearing your minds of any distractions. It's a... bit of a refreshing exper- oh hey visions.

Wait... visions of now? You see... what is probably Oolong, disguised as Piccolo, standing outside Garlic Jr.'s window as the Makyan rests. Tao, dressed in a disguise, has snuck into the room silently, retrieving the little bottle with Kami in it. Or... he would be, if he didn't suddenly catch the attention of one of Garlic's minions. The man tries to shout at him, but your brother telekinetically retrieves the bottle and moves it to "Piccolo's" hand. Oolong, in his best impression of the Namekian, gives a little pompous speech to the Makyans, letting Tao escape into the shadows. They seem confused, angry, and suspicious, though your brother bolts Oolong out of there before they can respond. He flies off with the transformed pig man, approaching your window and...

"Maple, catch!"

Your eyes open and as fast as you can, you react. You catch the jar with Kami in it and then bolt off to Trip, waiting outside with the Nimbus nearby. You quickly give her Kami, and then bolt back to the room, watching her fly off into the night.

You did it. Chuu Lee seems to have noticed the stunt, but you tell her that it's something you all did just now to prevent the situation from getting worse. Now, you can all fight at your best.

Finally getting some rest in, both of you feeling refreshed, far more confident than you were before. When you wake... you see Tao, Oolong, and Acer have acquired something else during the little encounter last night.

Roshi seems legitimately surprised by that, like he was expecting higher. Brobro just grumbles out "Deal..."

The pig man thinks for a moment... and a grin you've seen on Roshi all too often appears on his face. "Oh, I'll think of something. In fact, there's one idea I have..."

Acer's expression becomes one of great annoyance as he moves up in front of you extremely defensively. "You ask her that and we see if pigs can fly." Oolong relents, grumbling to himself. You then pull your brother aside.

"Is that what I think it is, and does that mean what I think it means?" you ask.

Acer looks down at the Dragon Ball. "One way to find out..."

You get your Scouter and check... yep. It's the real deal all right. And... that's not all. Garlic Jr. has all the other Dragon Balls. What's more, there's one more headed your way. Krillin and the twins are about to touch down. As they do, Goku finally wakes up, heading down with a yawn. The monkey boy notices you all gathered. "Hey guys, what's up?"

"Ah. Well damn." Goku frowns. "...though this means we have the most of them, don't we?"

"Yeah, but now we'll have to be extra cautious..." Acer tells him. "You should hold on to yours. Tien, you and Chiaotzu still have your Dragon Ball, right?"

"I have it on me." the triclops confirms.

"Hey, don't mean to interrupt you guys, but here's some more good news." Krillin interjects. "Bulma and Yamcha's daughter was born yesterday."

That catches most people's attention. Lazuli smiles coyly, standing next to Krillin. "She's a sweet little thing. Oh she's so cute! You guys gotta come see her when this is all over!" Her brother... doesn't quite share her enthusiasm.

"Let's not crowd them out." Krillin asks with a laugh. "But... guess that means we're not returning to Capsule Corp. with the Dragon Ball. Aw damn, guess this was a bit of a wasted journey..." Krillin slouches.

"Well, Bulma and Yamcha and the baby are no longer targets, I'd say that's a good thing!" Blue Launch adds, trying to reassure him.

"But really. Even if Garlic Jr. has all the Dragon Balls... who says he gets to make the wish?" You smile wide, catching everyone's attention. "We'll keep ours. He has to go through us in order to make the wish. He has no bargianing chips in his favor, and for all the help she's given him currently, looks like Towa hasn't really done much else to help him. We keep the Dragon Balls here, and wait for him to make his move. Even if he summons Shenron... we can stop him from making his wish, if it's anything bad."

Acer... seems far more on board with this idea than you thought he'd be. "Then you, Goku, Tien or I could use the Raio-ken and make the wish first... okay, sure!"

"Any objections?" And... well, nobody really seems to want to argue right now, but probably because they don't have any other, better ideas. "Then that settles it!"

You all get some breakfast before the Tournament resumes, making sure to get everyone up to speed on the details of what happened. Chuu Lee tells you that she feels... less outright confident, but more simply ready. She'll be cheering you on during your match. Goku is almost bouncing with excitement for it, his tail swaying back and forth. After breakfast, there's still some time to do a little something before things resume...

Having our own school sounds dangerously close to the "make a team of improbably strong normal humans" route that Human Quest went down. If the students are significantly weaker than the threat we're facing, there was no point to them being there in the first place, and if they can handle it themselves, we don't even need to bother, and it becomes much less interesting.

I would like to avoid Human Quest's mistakes as much as possible, because in addition to making the quest bad, they make it really, really boring.

Besides, going on actual adventures is way more interesting than being tied down to a school. It doesn't even seem like something Maple would WANT to do as a full-time job.

No flying school. It's a neat concept, but in practice, it's really not the direction the quest should be going.

As soon as you're given the go, both you and Goku dash at each other, first leaving afterimages of where you both are when you're about to strike, only to appear above them, forearms locked. The initial blow leaves a small shockwave from the sheer force of it. You and Goku strike again, this time hitting each other in the jaw. You both can't help but smirk at that.

He takes to the ground first, with you following him, a few Spirit Bits prepped and ready. Goku dodges out of the way of most of their shots, though a lucky blast to the shoulder lets you spinkick him right in the gut. Goku takes the opportunity, though, to quickly grab you by your leg and fling you to the ground, kneeling as you try to stand up and grabbing your leg again with his tail. This time though, you push off with your other leg and bring Goku to the ground, landing a powerful elbow blow to his chest. He gets back up, and even with your superior reflexes helping you, he's almost able to match you blow for blow.

"H-heh heh! This is great, Maple! But can't back down just yet..." Goku... takes an odd stance, unlike his usual "open" one. He pushes his leg back, hands on the ground. He's planning something.

Best not to let him get the upper hand here. You let out a roar of "Raio-ken!" and play keep-away with him, Goku chasing after you. For added measure, you pop up your Spirit Bits again and start charging! As you dodge Goku's moves, you realize just how much power is going into his attacks, but what's more, each one seems extremely deliberate, far more well calculated than you were expecting. Goku struggles a bit, but it seems you've got him right where you want him! At a full charge, you fling your attack forward... only for Goku to retaliate with an Explosive Wave, blocking it and breaking the binds. A flash of foresight tells you what he's about to do next, but you barely have enough time to dodge the three blows of his Ki-enhanced Jan Ken, the last blow knocking you down, about to fall on your back, only for Goku to catch you with his tail. This time you manage to retaliate, flying up as he tries to fling you down harder, forcing him to let go.

"H-heh! Nice one, monkey boy!" Damn, that was a close one. Goku's definitely fighting smarter, now. Shoulda' given him more credit. The giddy grin on his face tells you he notices you're impressed. He'll probably see something like that coming again...

Time to take the initiative. We need to start doing damage. Hit him with a Lightning Izumi Combo so we can get him with a stun as well.

Try and bait him into attacking us into the air. Though he's a savvy opponent, I'd bet that he's not *that* used to aerial combat yet. With our TK movements, we can do lots of tiny sidesteps and dodges and other subtle movements like the Mobile Suits do with the minute side-thrusters in their torsos and limbs. Meanwhile, he's stuck trying to move in one direction only.
