It doesn't take long, and your chest is sore afterwards, but the kanji of the Underdog is emblazoned over your heart. You feel a great sense of pride welling up inside you as you carry your family's mark, although there's nothing you know of them. Your brother has told you stories of your parents before, but even he had only known them when he was young. The village elders don't seem to have much information either, other than mission records. You quietly wonder if there are further secrets.

As you sit back up, you reach into your pockets. You've been waiting to see this since you got home, although you wanted to be respectful towards your brother. You take out the affinity paper and begin to focus your Chakra in it, and slowly but surely, the paper dampens. It goes limp with wetness, and when your brother turns around from putting up the tattoo box, he grins widely. "Haha! You got one of those papers, eh? It looks like you have the same affinity as your dear brother, too! Maybe when we're both off I could show you some jutsu sometime, yeah?"

You grin, thrilled. "Definitely!"

You head to sleep not long after having a small snack. You want to get to sleep for tomorrow morning.

When you head outside in the early morning, you see a shocking sight. All around there is a huge influx of people, the parents, friends, and family of the Genin participating in the Chunin exams no doubt. Among the crowd of people passing by is Hanto, who seems to have been waiting for you to awaken. He walks over, yawning.

"Morning, Takeshi. Head to the Academy for the first test. Kichiro and Ai should already be there. I'll see you afterwards. Good luck, and don't let the other kids intimidate you."

You smile, and nod. "Of course not. I'll be seeing you, sensei."

You make your way to the Academy, and when you approach the entrance, you're somewhat shocked. There are hundreds of Genin, largest part consisting of Leaf Genin. Other than that, there is a large number of foreigners here. The times of peace have brought the villages together in a way never seen before, and this is easily the highest number of participants in history. Outside the crowd, standing near a couple of trees, you see Kichiro and Ai.

First thing's first, you head over to your team. You make glances into the crowd and observe, finding that quite a bit of the population is older than you. Of course, you only did become a Genin very recently. You feel a little nervous knowing how little combat experience and training you have. It dawns on you that in order to succeed, you're going to really need to stay on your toes.

More than ever before. There could be a hundred Genin as strong or even stronger than someone like Mari or Sarada.

You approach your squad. At first glance, they seem mostly normal, but a deeper inspection reveals that they're scanning the crowd as well. Ai looks as alert as ever, but something else is a little different. There seems to be a spark of energy in her movements as if she were excited.

Kichiro is leaning against the tree, trying to look sleepy and inconspicuous. Of course, you can see that he's actually scanning the crowd with a single, slightly open eye. You get the impression that he's used to this sort of behavior. You smile, and give a slight wave. "Hey, guys. Heh, what a crowd, right? I didn't expect anything like this."

Ai nods slowly. "Quite. It's difficult to infer accurate information with such a broad group. It seems that planning is useless, for the moment."

Kichiro shakes his head. "I dunno about that, girly. I see plenty that tells me a lot. Look at how huge some of these fuckers are!"

You chuckle. "Yeah, a good bit of these Genin are older. It's kinda unnerving."

Kichiro shrugs. "Eh, the way I look at it, if we fail, we just try again next year. Then we've got an idea of what it's like in advance."

Chocho snorts and chuckles. "Jeez, team serious business over here."

Inojin looks at Chocho disapprovingly. "Being serious is how you win."

You think on those words, and an idea pops into your mind. "Speaking of capitalizing on opportunities, I have a question for you, Shikadai. How would you and your team like to form an alliance with mine?"

Ai looks in your direction. "An interesting proposal. I believe that this could benefit us mutually."

Kichiro stands up straight, stretching. "Might helps us all last a bit longer."

Inojin glances at Shikadai. "What do you think?"

The young shinobi strokes his chin like a shrewd old man. "Well, right now, it's nothing but a benefit. The only way it could bite us in the ass is if we came across them and had to fight, but....I'm confident we could beat them in a fight if we had to."

You decide to make your way over to the group of Shinobi wearing Snow headbands. You've never met anyone from that country, and they seem to be the only ones from there. As you get closer, you can see them speaking to another Genin squad from the Leaf that you don't recognize. They seem to be a bit older and picking on the Snow shinobi, granted, they don't seem to care.

There are two boys and a girl. One of the boys is of an average build, wearing a large, navy blue coat with a cream colored fur lined hood. He has medium length dark hair, and some sort of strange, folded up device strung on his back. IT has a blue and red ying-yang, and is made of high quality steel. As you get closer, you notice the air is chilling.

The second boy is large for his age, standing roughly 5'10. He's wearing a silver armor with the same ying yang symbol at the center, and his headband is connected to armor that covers his neck. His hair is black and short.

The girl is dainty and slim, with waist length, snow white hair. Her skin is equally as pale, even more so than Ai. Her clothing is stark white as well, although there seems to be a red clan symbol on the back of it. The three Genin from the Leaf are obviously a couple of years older, all standing as tall or taller than the largest of the Snow three. They flick a finger against his armor, and laugh. "Look at this tin can. How can a shinobi be expected to sneak around like that, huh?"

The large boy simply smirks, and this seems to upset the Leaf Genin. "Hey! What's the big idea, you think I'm a funny guy or something!? I'll make sure I remember your ugly mug you-"

As he's speaking, he's interrupted by a white mist spraying over him. When you look at the girl, she's gently holding out her palm and blowing. A cold wind blows by you, and the three Leaf Genin yell and scramble way, complaining about how cold they are.

My name is Nyoko, and these are my partners, Goto, the big one, and Anzai, the quiet one. Well, they're both pretty quiet, really, heh."

It's only now that you notice Anzai has headphones plugged in, and is gently tapping his foot, staring off into the distance. Goto is shielding his eyes from the sun. "So hot.."

Nyoko looks back. "Oh hush. If you weren't wearing that armor, it wouldn't be so terrible. I told you to wait to put it on!"

He simply grumbles. You decide to inquire about what she'd done to those Genin. "What sort of technique was that? I'd never seen anything like it."

She turns back. "Oh, it was a jutsu that let me lower the temperature in the surrounding area. It's very useful."

You nod. "By the way, those are my squadmates over there next to the trees, Ai and Kichiro. They'd introduce themselves, but they'er somewhat antisocial, heh. Wary of the competition, I'd guess"

The Exam proctor yells for everyone to line up.

She inhales deeply and sighs. "Mmm, reasonable. Well, Takeshi, I'll keep your name in mind if I meet you on the battlefield."

You're all funneled into the Academy, until you come to a massive room with rows and rows of tables and seats. There are also some seats off to the right, and a desk at the front. The room is something that you've known was here for years, although you had never gleaned it's exact purpose. Now you understand that it's for some hosting the Chunin exams.

You're all given numbers, and are told to sit at various seats. You look around you and find that your team is dispersed fairly evenly, and that Shikadai's team is mostly grouped to your right. There are sheets of paper turned upside down on everyone's desk, and when you try to lift it, it seems to be held down by some sort of seal. The room goes quiet as a tall man with long, platinum blonde, or maybe silver hair enters the room. He seems particularly old, clearly a man of sixty or seventy. Even then, he has a Leaf Headband displayed proudly. The man doesn't seem to open his mouth to speak, simply forming a handseal and reaching out to everyone's mind. A booming voice rings in your head, and you get the feeling this is no ordinary shinobi. Everyone flinches as he begins to speak.

You look down at the test and start to scan the nine questions, and after a short while, you find that they're completely impossible. This is high level mathematics and geometry, complex trap making, biology, chemistry. Nothing that you've come close to seeing in the Academy.

Its a ride. A ride I loved and hated.

You shift your eyes around. All over the room, people are looking down at their tests in utter confusion. It makes you feel a little better, knowing that most people here are in the same boat as you. Of course, that begs the question, what's the point of having a test that no one can pass?

Not to mention the fact that cheating only leads to a reduction in points, instead of outright failing, like a normal test. Do they want you to cheat or something?

You glance back down at the difficult looking questions. You look back up, and at your team mates. Surprisingly, Kichiro is rapidly marking down on his paper, although you're unsure of whether or not he's actually capable of answering them. Looking at Ai, you can see her glancing around the room as well. To your right you can hear the sound of the Chunin marking down on papers, catching people attempting to cheat. That was fast.

When you look over at Shikadai and his team, you see something shocking. Shikadai quickly forms several handseals, and his shadow stretches across the room to one of the Genin who are rapidly answering questions. As the shadow connects, his body whips into the exact same position as the other Genin, and marking down answers on his paper. Some sort of reverse shadow possession?

You wait for Shikadai to finish copying answers, and flick through a couple of handseals as fast as you can. You use your False Sound Jutsu to alter Shikadai's perception of hearing, and make him hear something that isn't really there. Your voice echoes deep in his mind, and you chuckle at how you've turned a technique for trickery into a mockery of the mental communication that the Jounin proctor uses. It's about thirty minutes until the final question.

"Shikadai, remember our alliance? How about you help my team out. Possess me, and my squad will owe you one. How's it sound?"

The Genin looks in your direction cooly, and forms a couple of handseals. A shadow weaves it's way through the tables, until you feel your body removed of all control. Suddenly you begin to mark down answers for every question on the test. It takes about fifteen minutes, considering how long all of the answers are, but you get it all down in time. There's roughly fifteen minutes before the final question.

The Jutsu is released, and you mentally thank Shikadai. As you look around at your team, you see that Kichiro is relaxed and laying back. Ai is still glancing around the room, and although you're not sure, you think that she's at a loss. You form several handseals once more, and start to communicate the answers of the test to her. You're not sure if it's getting through at first, but moments later she begins to mark down answers at a rapid pace. More than half of the total participants have been removed at this time, and time is drawing to a close as Ai finishes her last question.

"Pencils down!"

Inoichi goes on about the final question, telling everyone that if they're not confident that they'll pass, they should simply leave now. For if you fail, then you will never be able to take the Chunin exams again.

Even if he wanted to just eliminate the competition, oweing another team a favor is one way to go about it. As everyone who doesn't wish to risk it leaves the room, you get an idea for about how many Genin are left.

Looking around the room, there's roughly one hundred Genin. You take note of how many of the foreign teams that you noticed earlier are around, including the only Genin from the snow village. The proctor takes in all of your test, and begins to call out people's names as he decides whether or not they pass or fail. You notice he only calls out one name from each squad, meaning that he's already completely memorized the groups everyone is in.

"Sarada Uchiha, pass!"

See, the problem with That, and generally all Water Jutsu that create water, is that theyre almost prohibitively expensive, chakra wise, because they require you to basically make water out of nothing, or your own chakra.
Thats why the Second Hokage, guys like Zabuza, and Kisame are considered so crazy, and the only guys you see really throwing around Water jutsus like that in the series.

You flick through the handseals of your false place jutsu, and cause the Genin to swing early. He goes sprawling, flipping over midair and losing control. You bring your knee up, using the momentum of your jump to crash it into his face just as he turns over. You send him reeling back to the ground, completely knocked out with a bloody face. Your knee has a tooth lodged into it, although it only hurts a little bit. You land and turn around, looking for your squadmates. Ai is holding a Mist Genin hostage, a kunai up to his throat and his arm bent behind his back.

"Give me your scroll!"

She presses the tip of the blade against his throat. "I-I don't have it! I swear! It was on my squadmate!"

You spin your eyes around to the other direction, and see Kichiro squaring off with a certain someone that you recognize. It's Roku, from Mari's squad. Of course, that means that Mari is nearby as well. You rush over and you begin to search through the clothing of the Genin you knocked out, but a fist crashes into your jaw and sends you sprawling a clear ten feet. When you look up, a Genin with black hair shaped into a bowl cut, and a green jumpsuit has struck you. He has narrow, intense eyes. He reminds you of Rock Lee, except for the serious face. You scramble back up to your feet and draw a kunai, when Ai calls out.

She starts to use the Rotation Jutsu, just as Himawari had done. Except now she's holding the scroll out, and it unfolds rapidly as she spins. The seals along it's paper begin to activate, and projectile weapons shoot out in every direction. Kunai, swords, senbon, shuriken, spiked balls, the list goes on. Ai spins her hostage around and hunkers down, using her small size to conceal herself completely as the Genin cries out in pain, his body riddled with weaponry. You look over and see that the mini-Rock Lee and Roku are both gone, and it's you and Kichiro out in the open. A couple of Mist Genin had all leapt at Mari in a desperate effort to take her out, but clearly they weren't anticipating a technique of this level. Their bodies drop from the sky, far from you.

You and Kichiro are both in grave danger. What do you do?

It's probable that one of the bodies around here has a heaven scroll on it, considering there's at least three different teams besides your own in the immediate area.

You look up, and see that same intense-looking Rock Lee look-a-like from before. He seems to have been waiting behind the cover of the trees for anyone who would have dodged the attack. You've fallen for a trap, and you get the feeling that he and Rock Lee don't just happen to look alike, considering how much your face hurts.

He's probably a taijutsu specialist. What are you going to do?

You weave your handseals once more, and send an illusion of yourself charging to the Genin. As you do this you quickly grab a few senbon and dip them in your vial of poison. (9 uses left) Just as he swings at empty air you make the throw, and he dodges forward, leaping to the ground. He manages to slip under most of them, but two pierce his shoulder as he falls. The Genin winces and yanks them out, flicking the weapons at your legs. You have to jump up to dodge them, and you rest your feet on the tree behind you so that you're standing horizontally. The Mini-Rock Lee continues to pursue you, jumping up and towards you with a kick.

Behind you, the sound of weapons thudding comes to a stop, and you leap to the left back out into the open just as his foot crashes into the wood, shattering the bark. Your shoulder hits the ground as you fail the landing, having made a desperate leap. When you look up, you see Kichiro and Ai. Ai is wielding one of the swords that were launched by Mari, somehow, and Kichiro has various needles and kunai sticking out of his body. It seems that Ai has been protecting him as well as dodging. She must be faster than you had originally thought.

To your left, you can see Mini Rock-Lee closing in. There are multiple bodies all around you, and your squad is surrounded.

Warmth radiates off of him, and he starts to repeatedly exhale and inhale. With each exhale, a ball of fire, about the size of a soccer ball, is spurted out. He grasps them and starts to throw them all around your squad, slowly filling the clearing with mines of fire.

You take out a few Kunai, and start to dip them in poison as the three Genin on your perimeter circle you. They look like hungry predators, especially Mari. She's glaring at you specifically, wearing a smirk. "Poison suits a cowards like you. I can see that you've already infected my squadmate Chan here. Interesting technique with the fireballs though. I'm sure with that visual Genjutsu that I taught you, leaping into this minefield would be a pretty dire mistake. That would leave us at a standoff."

Roku chuckles. "Of course, I could always just use /that/ jutsu, and kill them all."

Chan shakes his head. "That is entirely unnecessary. I believe that there's no need to engage this group further."

Mari nods. "Chan is right."

You look around you, before turning back to Mari. "How about you all just take the scrolls from the fallen Genin and leave us? Surely they'll have what you need."

Mari ties her Kimono back up, and seems to glide over to one of the dead. She's swift and calm in her movements, and finds two scrolls. "Hmm, a Heaven Scroll, and an Earth scroll. We need the Earth scroll, so.."

She tosses the Heaven scroll into an orb of fire, and it's incinerated. "We won't be needing that. Sorry if you were, Takeshi, but I'd prefer it if you got your victory the hard way rather than scrounging up after our victories. Let's go, Roku, Chan. You'll need to get that poison out of his blood before it has a chance to weaken him."

They both concur. "Right."

Mari's squad leaves you, and Kichiro dissipates his jutsu. You all kneel down for a breather.
