The room glows with red light, the heat so intense most creatures would only be able to stay a short while before collapsing. This place, however, is not the home of ordinary creatures. Slumped upon an ash grey throne sits the Lord of Wrath, Alastor, resting his head on his fist in boredom. The claws on his free hand tap rhythmically on the arm of his throne while his foot taps restlessly on the floor. Boredom, a feeling he'd grown far too used to over the centuries. He could not remember how long it had been since he had a truly enjoyable fight. He would alleviate his boredom by invading the mortal lands, but he could not. Over two hundred years had passed since he and the other demon lords were told to stop attacking mortal lands. Alastor did not know why Malaphas wanted them to stop raiding mortal lands, Malaphas never did explain his reasons. He did know, however, that disobeying the Demon King would end in death and bloodshed. Tempting as that may be, Alastor knew from experience that it would be a one-sided fight, and where is the joy in a battle which you already know you will win or lose? Unable to invade mortal lands, Alastor had created a farm near the border and started a small project there to entertain himself. That too had come to an end, when the new mortal Champion led a rebellion and managed to defeat his Behemoth.

The Champion, why was he taking so long? It had been months since their first encounter and Alastor was growing impatient. Where was his crusade? Why were there no mortal armies marching into his lands? What was taking that human so damn long? Alastor was growing impatient. It had been centuries since the last crusade, he wanted another one now! He wanted to fight, to kill, to drive their armies back and crush their spirits beneath his feet, to-

The voice brought Alastor back to his senses, and he noticed he was crushing the stone arm of his throne. Not only that, but he failed to notice that his lieutenant, Baphomet, had entered the room and was now standing before him.

“Baphomet, when did you get here?”

“A while ago, Lord Alastor. I understand your boredom, but please control yourself. The crusade will come in due time, for now though we must wait.”

“I've waited over two centuries, my patience is growing thin.” Alastor grumbled. “Anyways, what are you here for?”

“I'm here to deliver your weekly report, my lord.”

“Again already?”

“Yes my lord. The northern farms have reported in, they are short on food supplies for the mortals and request that more be sent to them immediately. The border patrols have also sent me their report, they say that all is clear for the time being. The western farms are losing mortals too quickly and request that more be taken there soon, and...”

>”Don't bother me with such boring matters! Just tell me what I need to know and handle the rest yourself.”
>“Yes yes this is all very interesting, but what about the crusade? How close are they to marching against us? Where is their Champion and what is he doing now?”

>Bah, these farms are more trouble than they're worth! Gather them all into one juicy target for the crusade, let's get this STARTED already!
>>
>>42612191
"Yes yes this is all very interesting, but what about the crusade? How close are they to marching against us? Where is their Champion and what is he doing right now?"

Baphomet sighs. "Well my lord, to my knowledge they have just gained Belmore's support for their crusade. However, it seems they are not ready to start a crusade yet because Iseria has been hesitant to pledge their support."

"Isn't their Champion from Iseria? Then why haven't they pledged their support already?"

"I do not know, which leads us to what I was about to report. It seems that His Greatness and the other lords are coming here to discuss the situation."

"They are coming here?"

"Yes my lord."

Alastor groaned. It would be one thing if Malaphas or Balaam were coming, but he absolutely hated dealing with the Lords of Pride and Fear. Lilith had always been arrogant but after becoming Malaphas's spymaster she'd only gotten worse and it drove Alastor up a wall. Eligos was more tolerable, but only just. Alastor could appreciate his strength and desire for battle, but he found the Lord of Fear's methods to be cowardly and insulting. Just being in the room with them was enough to ruin his day, but having them inside his fortress made him want to retch. It would probably take weeks to rid the place of their stench.

"This is why I hate the weekly report, Baphomet. None of the news you bring me is ever good." Alastor complained, resting his head in the palm of his hand.

"There is good news, sire. At least, good for you."

"What is it? If it doesn't cheer me up I'm going to pick my teeth with your horns."

"There has been a rebellion at one of our major farms, sir. The mortals have successfully defeated their guards and are now free."
>>
>>42613695
Alastor's head perked up at the news. "Which farm? Who was in charge?"

"It was Marbas's farm, sir."

Marbas? He was one of Alastor's strongest officers. A merciless warrior who delighted in bloodshed, Alastor had placed him in charge of one of the larger farms to keep him occupied and out of trouble.

"Where is Marbas? What happened to him?"

"He is dead, my lord. It seems he was slain by the mortals."

Alastor's red eyes lit up at this news. Slaying Marbas would be no easy task, even for a large group of mortals. Their battle must have been long and bloody, he wished he had been there to see it.

"Where are they now? Have the Scavengers located them yet?"

"Yes my lord. The reports say they are marching this way, towards the fortress. It appears they plan to attack."

Attack? They planned to attack the fortress of a demon lord? They had earned their freedom and could have started running for the border, yet they instead chose to march towards his fortress? What would drive the mortals to do something so clearly suicidal? Alastor did not know, but the thought of over a thousand mortals marching on his fortress made his blood heat in excitement, and in the end that was all that mattered to him.

"How far are they? When will they arrive?" He asked excitedly, already starting to rise from his throne.

"They will be here in a few hours. Coincidentally, His Terribleness and the other lords should be arriving not too long after. How do you wish to handle the mortals, my lord? If you so desire I can gather your armies and crush them before sunfall tonight."

Maybe we can pretend to get injured and draw them away from the meeting? Possibly into another farm officially to trap them but really to cause more chaos and get more mortals to put up a fight?

"No. No, I think I'll handle this myself."

"My lord, are you certain? I do not think His Greatness will be pleased if he arrives and you are not here."

"How many mortals are there?"

"About two thousand, my lord. It was one of the larger farms, after all."

"Two thousand mortals will take me only a few minutes to deal with. I'll be back long before Malaphas gets here."

"My lord, this task is beneath you. If you will just allow me to-"

"I've made my mind, Baphomet. It's been too long since I've had a proper fight, perhaps these mortals that slew Marbas will keep me entertained for a little while at least."

"...Very well, Lord Alastor. I will finish preparations for the meeting while you are away. Please do not be too long."

"No promises." Alastor said, a malevolent grin spreading across his face as he reached for the axes leaning against his throne.

------
The sound of marching filled the air as the newly liberated armies marched onwards. Thousands of men and women armed with whatever weapons and armor they could find march bravely through the mountains, towards the Lord of Wrath's fortress. A silent rage smolders among them as they march, the atrocities of the farm burned into their memory and the losses they've suffered still fresh in their minds. At the head of them is a young man, barely old enough to be considered a man at all, carrying a glowing red axe of infernal design. A bitter scowl marks his face, hate driving him forward like all the others who follow him.
>>
>>42615310
"Wilhelm, I don't like the look of this." A bearded elf admits to the young man.

"What do you mean?" The young man asks.

"It's been hours since we last saw any activity and I'm certain they must know we escaped by now. I can't shake the feeling that something's wrong."

"They're waiting for us." Wilhelm declares. "Those Scavengers from earlier must have reported back by now, they have to know we're coming. If they haven't sent anyone to attack us by now it must mean they're waiting for us."

"Perhaps that's it. In that case, we should-"

The man is interrupted when the ground beneath him begins to quake. The long line of mortals comes to a dead halt as the earth shakes, first gently then with enough force that some are knocked off balance and stumble to the ground. There's a loud explosion as a column of lava flies into the air ahead of them, solidifying into stone as it's in the air and falling with a solid thump. From the ground rises a horned figure, wearing a heavy set of armor that bears the motif of a skull in it's center. The Lord of Wrath, Alastor, hovers high in the air before them.

The mortals are frozen in fear and confusion as Alastor gazes over them, sizing them up.

>"I see you've all escaped your pens. I must say, I'm impressed. However, you've made a foolish mistake trying to march on my fortress. A mistake that will cost your lives."
>"So you are the mortals that killed Marbas. Tell me, which one of you was it that struck the killing blow? I want to kill them last."
>"When Baphomet told me there were mortals marching towards my fortress I almost didn't believe him. I have to applaud you, no other mortals have had the gall to march against me without a crusade at their back. Tell me, what drove you all to such a foolish act? Perhaps if your answer amuses me I will spare some of you."

There's a brief length of silence. Then...

"Don't let him scare you!" A young man with a curious looking axe calls out. "Remember, we can fight! Don't let Markus and everyone's sacrifice be in vain! ATTACK!"

At the young mortal's words, everyone seems to find their courage and shout a mighty battle cry that echoes out through the mountain range. A familiar scent fills Alastor's nostrils, an intoxicatingly sweet scent that knows no rival. The scent of rage.

A moment later, hundreds upon hundred of arrows fly through the air and pierce his tough hide.

"That tickles." Alastor said, as the arrows were pushed out of his flesh and his wounds began to heal themselves. Within seconds, it was as though nothing had happened to the Lord of Wrath.

Despite this, the mortals below began to string more arrows and aim. Pointless, but Alastor had to commend their courage.

>"You didn't answer my question. How about we try that again, why are you marching to attack my fortress?"

A wicked grin began to form on Alastor's face. "To be honest, I was hoping you'd do that. Now then..."

Alastor stretched out one hand and pointed at a narrow column of mortals. A second later a menacing red circle began to form under their feet, and before the mortals had time to react a massive column of fire shot into the air, incinerating those in it's direct radius and horribly burning those unfortunate enough to be standing close. Screams of pain echoed out from them as Alastor began to slowly descend back down to the ground.

"Now then, I believe I asked you a question." He said with a grin, the scent of their hate growing even stronger than before.

"You'll pay for that!" The young mortal at their head shouted, lifting his battleaxe and running forward. "CHARGE!"

That axe seemed quite peculiar to Alastor. It glowed blood red and it's haft was decorated with patterns he couldn't quite make out from here. It was certainly magic, that he could tell at a glance, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he'd seen it somewhere before. Moreover, the boy wielding it was absolutely dripping with the scent of hate and it showed in how he charged recklessly at Alastor, the other mortals charging right behind him.

>"You, where did you get that axe?"
>"Let me ask again, just in case you didn't hear. Why are you marching towards my fortress?"

Sieg and Ganelon vs Alastor and Baphomet
>>
>>42616737
The mortals charged forth with the young mortal at the head. Alastor made no move to avoid them, simply drawing his axes and waiting for them to get to him. The young one struck first, swinging his axe in a horizontal arc towards Alastor. Alastor lazily blocked it, holding the axe just inches away from his gut. Moments later, the other mortals arrived. Spears, swords, and all manner of weapons pierced his hide, but the Lord of Wrath remained unscathed.

"Look at you, you're absolutely seething with hate." He said, looking down on the axe-wielding mortal. "I have to wonder what happened on the farm that made you so deliciously hateful."

Suddenly, the weapons piercing Alastor's flesh began to glow red hot. The mortals let go of their weapons in surprise as their weapons suddenly began to melt away, molten steel dripping down and pooling at Alastor's feet.

He took a closer look at the peculiar axe now, examining it's decorations. Scenes of bloodshed and death adorned it's haft, and on the flat of the axehead he could now see an engraving of a large winged demon. Suddenly, Alastor recalled where he had seen the axe before.
>>
>>42617295
"This axe, it was Marbas's axe wasn't it?" He asked. "It's been so many centuries since I last saw him that I almost didn't recognize it. I'm guessing you were the one who killed him then? How embarrassing, for such a powerful demon to die at the hands of such a young mortal."

The young mortal pulled away and stepped back, putting some distance between you and him. Meanwhile, the mortals who lost their weapons fell back and pondered what they should do now while the rest of the mortals started to circle around Alastor, perhaps with the intent of surrounding him and attacking at once.

"Still..." Alastor continued. "I can not imagine Marbas would die in battle against one measly mortal. Tell me, how many did he take with him before he died? How many of your companions found their death at the end of that very same axe?"

"Shut up!" The mortal cried, throwing an overhead swing at Alastor. Alastor blocked it once more, this time without the same laziness as before. This mortal was no threat to him, but that weapon in his hands demanded more caution from him than the other mortals and their useless mundane weapons.

>"Did I strike a nerve? Tell me, did someone important to you die at Marbas's hands? That's usually what drives you mortals into a frenzy."
>"Do you even know what you're doing? You fight like you've never held a weapon before in your life."

"Did I strike a nerve? Tell me, did someone important to you die at Marbas's hands? That's usually what drives you mortals into a frenzy."

The mortal pulls back and swings again, but Alastor blocks with ease. One brave mortal tries to chop off Alastor's head from behind with a sword, but the blade gets stuck in Alastor's tough hide. Without even taking his eyes of the mortal with Marbas's axe, he turns and cuts the offending mortal from shoulder to hip with his second axe.

"I wonder if you even understand just what you're holding in your hands right now, what it can do and what it will do to you in time."

"I know exactly what it does." The mortal shouts. "It kills demons, like you!"

Another easily blocked swing from the mortal, and Alastor chuckles. "True, a weapon like that could potentially harm me, but a weapon is only as good as the one wielding it. Someone as weak as you could not scratch me even with that accursed Seraph's blade."

Suddenly, Alastor kicks at the mortal's legs and sweeps them from under him, knocking him to the ground. Lazily, Alastor kicked Marbas's axe away and stepped on the mortal's chest, pinning him to the ground.

A barrage of arrows struck him, and Alastor looked up to see that the mortals had now fully surrounded him.

"Don't you dare speak that way of Wilhelm!" One of them shouts, bowstring pulled back to his ear.

"Wilhelm, was it?" Alastor said, unfazed by the hundreds of bows aimed at him. "So that is his name. I'd love to know just what this whelp has done to make you all so eager to defend him, but I'm afraid I'm short on time. Let's see now, what should I do with you..."

>Kill them all, savor it as much as you can.
>Spare Wilhelm, let him keep the axe and send him off. He might prove interesting later.
>Spare the mortals, tear Wilhelm apart right in front of them.
>Throw them all back into the farms. Let them simmer with hate and feed your subordinates.

What, turning him into some immortal champion for the demons or something?
>>
>>42617948
This.

Let a group of 200 survivors leave.
Also taunt Wilhelm that them dying is his fault for not moving them to safety first and then joining the crussaders latrer.
>>
>>42617967
No, that's the killing move of The Demon Lord of 80's Movies Jocks and Bullies.
>>
>>42617970
Nah honestly he'll probably turn into a mid tier Demon or something. It'll be much more tragic if Sieg puts him down without a second thought and moves onto the next Demon.
>>
>>42617995
Demon Lord Thad Akinston, Quarterback of the Wasteland Balors football team.
>>
>>42618002
This is true.

Even Andras with his angelic taint and regenerative demon powers was crubstomped.

What would an ordinary mutant be able to do?

(also foes anyone worry about Anna? She also recieved that gratsword and was on her way to become an initiate. We should probably check up on her when we get back to Isseria.)
>>

Wait, are we talking handegg or divegrass?

Handegg. Jerk Jocks abound in 80's high school movies, and they usually play American style football. It's like a requirement, because I've never seen a baseball focused jock.

>>Spare Wilhelm, let him keep the axe and send him off. He might prove interesting later.
And slay the rest. We have great expectations of this one.
>>
>>42618075
No.
Sparks even specifically mentioned how good the sword was in comparison to all the weapons on the farm and that she was unusually strong.
>>
>>42618128
Hmm. Well I doubt its as powerful or corrupting as a Demon Lord's Lieutenant's personal weapon.

And she probably isn't using it all that much anymore.
>>
>>42618075
We should chek in anyway.
Offer her and her mom our empty house till the crusade is over.

Also if we get court intrigue we should probably as Lauritenius to move our family to the watchtower.

Sis and dad would love to work in the forge since they'd learn about enchanting and mom can learn a few recepies from Gunther.
Frederik could also learn healing magic and teach it to your fellow guardsmen to up their chances of survival.
>>
>>42618190
Can Captain Gregory come too? I want to see what he thinks of the Watchtower's training program, and also scare some of the newer crusaders shitless.

A wicked grin spread across Alastor's face. "I've decided. You've managed to entertain me, so I'll let you live for now. However, I would be a poor demon lord if I let an attack me go unpunished, so..."

Alastor pulled out one of the arrows still embedded in his hide and, without hesitation, threw it into Wilhelm's left eye. The young mortal screamed in pain, and more mortals charged in to retaliate. Alastor payed them no mind, ignoring the swords and spears stabbing into him as he bent down to pull the arrow out of the mortal's eye.

"There, that should suffice. The rest of you bore me, come back stronger in your next life or don't come back at all."

With that, Alastor raised his hand and torrents of fire began to swirl around it. A moment later, Alastor snapped his fingers and a massive torrent of flame shot out, engulfing all but him and Wilhelm in fire. Those fortunate enough to be standing right by him were incinerated instantly. Those not so fortunate could be heard screaming in agony, as the fires seared their flesh and stripped it from their bones.

"No!" Wilhelm cried, pounding his fist ineffectively at Alastor's leg. "You monster! I'm gonna kill you!"

"Temper temper." Alastor chastised. "You have only yourself to blame for their deaths. If you had taken them to safety rather than marching on my fortress like fools they may have escaped alive. You could have even joined the crusaders, joined their crusade and taken your revenge that way."

"What are you talking about?"

"The crusade, you fool, do you not know...Oh. Ohohohoho, did you not know that a new Champion has been chosen? You must have spent years in that farm then, and this foolish march of your must have been because you didn't know that there are already armies gathering in the mortal lands as we speak."

The mortal went silent, a look of silent horror etched upon his face.
>>
>>42618501
"How does it feel, Wilhelm? To know that their deaths were in vain? How terrible it must be, to know that it's all your fault that they died."

Alastor took his foot off of Wilhelm's chest and walked over to Marbas's axe, burying it in the ground next to Wilhelm's head.

"Keep this axe. You'll need it if you want to kill me. I'll warn you though, the more you use it, the more you may find yourself becoming exactly what you hate. Oh, and one more thing..."

Alastor looked toward one of the smoldering fires and held out his fist. Suddenly, the fires began to shift, taking a form reminiscent of a large hunting dog.

"It would be boring if I just let you go. I'll give you one hour, I suggest you start running."

Wilhelm quickly rose to his feet and grabbed Marbas's axe. For a second he hesitated, seemingly tempted to try and attack Alastor one more time. In the end though, he realized that doing so would accomplish nothing, and started to run towards the border.

"Do me a favor if you make it back alive and tell Siegfried to hurry up already!"

Wilhelm did not respond, running as quickly as he could back towards Iseria.

'Well that was fun.' Alastor thought to himself. 'Now to deal with Lilith and Eligos...I swear, if those mortals don't hurry up I'm going to attack them myself.'

With that, Alastor disappeared back into the ground, leaving nothing but charred bodies and smoldering fire behind.

Alright, I'm going to call it a night here. Next thread might not be until the week after this week, as I'm hoping to finish Lamanters Quest on Friday and, assuming I can finish putting it together, start it's replacement quest on Saturday. Keep an eye on twitter for updates.

I'll stick around to answer questions if anyone has them. Thanks for playing folks, hope you all enjoyed it.

It wasn't what you guys think it is. The greatsword Anna had was just an enchanted greatsword the demons gave her for proving herself in battle. Basically, everyone else had to use the shitty weapons they kept in the arena while those who proved they could fight were given non-damaged weapons to use. Anna was nearly an Initiate, so they gave her an enchanted weapon to use instead. Most people at that stage or higher had enchanted weapons. The weapon she had was good, but it wasn't what Marbas's weapon is.
