Something made you regret the idea of sending Tahenohan and your dad together to the Royal Casino almost immediately after they left the house. That something may just be your common sense, but you cannot discard the possibility that you're just a tad little paranoid and mistrusting.

A part of you hopes that the latter option happens to be true.

However, as you were loitering about the area since they adamantly refuse to let you in from the front door, due to the fact you aren't properly dressed, someone grabbed your arm and told you that you're not supposed to be there.

This someone is a tall man with a chin-long moustache that isn't old enough to have grown an accompanying beard, since that kind of facial hair usually comes in large quantities past someone's thirties (albeit there are exceptions). He is wearing a light brown linen cloak which marks him as instantly suspicious because it's way too hot, even at night, to be wearing cloaks. Not that you're not used to see people sweat in impractical, Prontera-style clothes that aren't really suited for this place, but the circumstances are quite... Particular, right now.

“Why do you keep loitering about? Who sent you? Who are you working for?”, the grip on your arm tightens, and you can't tell if he's trying to intimidate you or just feeling nervous in general.

There's pretty much nobody around you, you can spot a few people milling about in intersecting streets, but this is far from a main avenue, more like a well-lit alley than anything. Someone has been keeping the area surrounding the casino clean from beggars and homeless people, but with how overpopulated Reboldeux currently is that just means you need to move one alley further to find plenty of people again.

However, right now, you're functionally alone.

“How about you calm down and explain?”, you'd rather not panic and make a scene, as hard as you have to restrain yourself from just punching him in the face and running away screaming. With all the decadence and desperation you've seen just by walking around, and considering the terrible experience at the inn, getting mugged doesn't feel tremendously unlikely.

He does not, however. He just keeps staring at you and you keep staring at him. For several long, strenuous moments nothing happens, and the feeling of panic begins to surge within you, and you have to fight to push the tail off from between your legs to not give the impression you're feeling fear, even though you feel the familiar and unpleasant shiver of fear that is right at the base of the tail for you.

“No”, he says, and your back feels cold all of a sudden. So do your hands, despite them being rather sweaty by now, and while you lack the itch you felt at the inn that made you want to punch that man in the face, you muster your courage to clench your fist in case you need to punch this one instead. “Not here, not out there in the streets”.

He looks around, and you notice he's looking at an open window at street-level, inside a lantern is hung on a wall to lit a small room where you hear the sound of people arguing, but don't quite have the time to make the words out. There's plenty of houses and buildings that have windows facing the street towards the casino area, it's typical of the local architecture for anyone walking about to be able to peek inside windows with impunity. When you first came, the majority of those windows were open nonetheless, now mosts have their shutters closed tight even in broad daylight.

He starts to pull you towards one of said houses.

It's so incredibly contrived. The same evening we went from hurried to reach our friends but realizing we needed to find roof over our heads and get rest before doing so, to apparently perfectly happy fooling around at a casino after getting in trouble and being conveniently saved. This series of events really put a sour taste in my mouth.

And in the end, we're not even invited in, so it doesn't have the 'oooh gambling adventures' draw to it any more.
>>
“No”, you adamantly resist, planting your feet on the ground and hoping he's not strong enough to just drag you away regardless, “I'm not going anywhere, especially not until you tell me where we're going”.

He clearly wasn't expecting you to resist and is now at a loss as to what to do. He attempts to tug you but finds out that you're not lacking in physical prowess, and even though you're dead tired and haven't properly had dinner, you're in a situation where your body is calling in all of its reserves to make sure you have enough energy to put up a fight, if necessary.

You're still in the awkward moment where you're not sure whether you're going to have to fight or not, and your most optimistic side tries to look at every sign that makes you believe you won't have to, while your legs begin to waver slightly and feel slightly cold and numb. You're stuck into some more tug of war against him, and neither of you make much progress, but you're just stalling for time at this point.

“Damn it we're just going over to that house stop making a scene already!”, he raises his voice a little and then lowers it at the end, as he realizes he was about to make a scene himself. He's either panicked himself or starting to get seriously pissed off.

Do you want to piss off a potential mugger? You still have no idea what's his deal with you or what's going on, even. It feels like something is but you know absolutely nothing of it. A quick glance around shows that you're still functionally alone in this long and well-lit alley, but you did spy some figures disappearing behind a building corner. The place is nowhere near uninhabited so you're only alone here as long as you don't make a run for a nearby street.

Whether this well lead you to help or not is an entirely different problem.

You decide you're fed up with this scene; you feel your heartbeat pick up and quickly take a deep breath before you try and apply all your strength into reversing his grip on your arm.

It's unfortunately a strange predicament to get out of, as trying to pull his hand off your arm isn't very effective, especially as he can use his other free hand to grab the arm you're using to try and free yourself. You are, however, lucky as this man seems to be a rookie mugger at best, or at least to not be expecting this sort of resistance, or likely no resistance at all, meaning you get stuck shuffling and pulling and grunting for a little.

A wide yank from your shoulder, aided by a swerve of the torso, frees your captive arm as the two of you stumble around in these agitated moments. Seizing the opportunity, you clench your just freed hand and throw a punch at your assailant.

But it's been a long time since you had to punch someone and you were but a weeny teenager in a rebellious period. Fighting between adults is not quite the same thing, and the lack of practice makes you fail to realize you were a bit far from your optimal measure, having you overextend and hit his cheek when your strength had pretty much ran out, connecting with an unsatisfying bap.

“Ow!”, he shouts, more annoyed than hurt as you both try to get an advantageous grip on the other. His hand reaches your face and pushes it aside before throwing a punch of his own. You see it coming with the corner of your eye, and instinctively tuck your head, bracing for impact.

The punch hits your forehead, which would already avoid most of the damage. However you've also got a nice pair of horns, and while you can't deny you're hurt and the base of your right horn is pounding with pain, the soft cracking you heard tells you your assailant was hurt a lot more.

“OW OW OW FUCK!”, he shouts as he pulls back, jumping around in pain, holding his hand.

Seizing the upper hand, you decide to take advantage of his evident distress by tackling him, headbutting him right in the stomach and driving him on the ground, climbing on top while he's still devoid of breath after your last attack.

“All right, time to talk!”, you threaten him, grabbing him by his cloak's collar, “What are you doing out here?”.

“I-I won't talk!”, he tries to resist, but his voice sounds uneven, and he appears to be quite scared of you. It might be because he just broke his hand against your horn. Your head still hurts and the area's still going to get swollen tomorrow, but you'll be fine.

“Oh, you will”, you squint your eyes, trying to look more intimidating, pointing your tail at his face like a scorpion's stinger, a trick you found that works pretty well, as nobody likes to have something black, snakelike and pointy-looking aimed straight at their eyes, “You will if you know what's better for you!”.

“A-alright d-don't hurt me! I had nothing to do with this I swear! I don't even know anything!”, he's not making much sense, but at least he isn't trying to fight back.

“Hey, HEY!”, from the only open window facing the street that you've noticed before you see one young man, who is then immediately joined by four more, crowding the small space. They all look curious at first, but then immediately become shocked, panicked and agitated, if not angry.

“Oh shit what is she doing?”.
“They got Josh!”.
“Fuck, fuck, get the stick!”.
“We're coming Josh!”.

Stumbling and making more noise than should be necessary, you see them retreating in the room and disorderly grabbing something while looking for the exit. They look like they're about to sortie to save what you presume is their friend.

You counted four of them, and someone mentioned a stick.

You're also not a martial artist and actually never seriously fought anyone as an adult until now.

You must be completely honest with yourself: you got lucky with that fight. Anyone even slightly more competent than he was would have knocked you out, or at least tried to punch you somewhere softer than your horns. You're not quite sure you can pull a second lucky win in a row, as you have the same amount of control over your own luck as anyone has. Which is zero.

Taking on four people at once, though? No. Just no.

You roll over to quickly dismount from your victim, then get up and run away as fast as you can, carried by Lulwy's wings as they say, even though it's a form commonly used with fear, since it makes you flee so fast you might as well-

Oh let's not be kidding your heart is beating as fast as it can, your legs still feel numb and cold and it's like you don't really feel your feet hitting the ground as you run, which would make everything feel terrible and make you stumble, trip and fall over flat on your face had you time to realize this, but the flight powers given by PANIC allow you to just run even though you have no idea what you're doing.

You hear people scream something behind you. Likely obscenities or threats of some kind, but you really have no idea nor you care about stopping because you think some of them actually had sticks or something and you don't want to deal with that, you want to keep your face pretty and your bones intact, especially your ribs.

After a couple random turns you're cast into crowds again, although most of the people are either wandering aimlessly, or patrolling, probably being guards, or trying to sleep or look incospicuous. Your running amok makes you quite a distraction, and you bet it's clear that you're running from something or someone.

You know where you need to go: back to where you were at the beginning. No, not the casino, back home, that place where you crashed when you had to run away from the inn to escape from unnecessary violence. Until you stumbled into more unnecessary violence.

They weren't kidding when they said Reboldeux really changed, you never would have guessed this place became such downtrodden and unsafe. You were right in warning your friends and asking them to reach you by any means necessary, but now you're kind of worried about them, if you got attacked twice in one night, what could have befallen them?

Well, worrying about that right now is pointless, all you can do is go back home and have a good night's rest, because there's nothing you can do anyways, not at this time of the night, not tired as you currently are, not without the rest of your party and not before you hand over Bryld's map to the Duke. Or rather, one of his representatives.

You walk, and walk, you try to remember where the Duke's Palace is, because you were in that plaza when you went to that inn, got attacked, had to leave... Then you took a turn here, a turn there... No wait.

Reaching the main plaza was hard and time-consuming enough, and the fact you keep glancing behind you isn't making you any less nervous. Why does it feel like EVERYONE is watching you?

The laughter of people having fun in the few taverns that are still open begin to sound like the gloating of a particularly cruel mugger; the well-lit streets start to look too well-lit, and you feel like you're completely exposed, with nowhere to hide. There's not a corner, an alley or an archway that doesn't have someone already, staring at you if you dare get close. Judging.

There's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and you're completely and utterly lost.

You're a tough girl, used to physical labour and you've been travelling through the untamed and unexplored jungle. You survived encounters with arachne, giants and even harpies, and lived to tell the tale. You've also met some undead killers but really, the harpies scared you a lot more.

And now you're in an overpopulated town, you've been attacked twice in a short amount of time, you're completely lost, surrounded by strangers and hyperventilating. Your chest is burning from the effort of running, you have a hard time keeping your legs still and straight, and quoting an idiom from your homeland you would definitely say your knees are screaming Giacomo.

Which just means they're shaky. Your homeland had some weird idioms, though you only realized it when you moved out and everyone started laughing at you when you mentioned them.

Speaking of which, every sound makes you jump, every laughter, every sentence, every time something is dropped in the distance. Foosteps, shuffling of blankets or bags used as cushions, nothing is safe. Nothing feels safe.

It is indeed a good thing that your next encounter comes from straight ahead, as a red-haired girl with freckles approaches you at a quick pace, staring at your face like you're some kind of weird thing she's never quite seen before. Once the panic subsides slightly, you see she's still staring at you.

“Lillith?”, she asks. It's Mires, one of the old friends you've come to this continent with. How could you not recognize her? “Wow I wasn't expecting you here I was just having a walk around we've seen some kind of rude demon thing yesterday that told us we had to leave but we thought we'd see you there not here isn't this place supposed to be bad what are you doing here it's a nice night out tonight the sky's clear and the streets stink less than usual”.

You hug Mires. You hug the shit out of her. You hug her so tight that she actually gags and gasps for breath, slapping your back repeatedly until you let go just a little bit.

“Gaia's bounty good thing your tits are supposed to be soft you almost crushed my lungs with those!”.

“ARE YOU Okay?”, you try to control yourself, but can't manage to do so until you've already started speaking, “Please tell me you're okay we need to get out of here”.

“I know right this place is shit I can't go anywhere or do anything and people don't want me around so I'm walking just to say fuck the brass I can go where I want I'll even leave town if I want but they don't open the gates at night any more because everyone became stupid so how's it been for you? We've been in the streets since yesterday we were thinking of joining you even before that demon came for us”.

“That demon...”, you pause, starting to recover your bearings, “You mean Yomi?”.

“Yeah whatever his name is. Zillis was about to hit him so we had to restrain her so he could finish talking and then he left but really I wasn't expecting you to be here wow girl calm down you look like you've been attacked by a band of ghost muggers”.

When Mires tells you to calm down, you know you're not looking right. You find yourself still breathing somewhat heavily, not because of the exertion but because of the panic and fatigue combined. You're feeling tremendously tired, much more than you felt before, and your legs are still quite wobbly and feel weak, barely capable of keeping you up.

“Wait, you've been in the streets?”.

“Yeah with the pirate thing Reiram lost his job at the docks and the innkeeper at the Hairy Mermaid tripled the price of his rooms and stopped giving them to us, so we're out sleeping on the streets at the moment”.

“Where?”, you ask, “I want to see the others”.

“Oh sure just follow me I'll lead you there I bet they'll be happy to see you”, Mires' lack of punctuation, patience or anything else regarding the concept of wait has never been as soothing as now. It's like after all the hardships you've been through you were finally rewarded with a glimpse of familiarity and experienced a little bit of your childhood again, the happy parts. Of course she also has a very fast pace but you do your best to keep up despite the fatigue. You owe her this much.

She walks around as if she knows the place like the back of her hand, which may be true as she always had an uncanny sense of direction, a necessity to her survival considering she can't sit still and tends to wander around without telling anyone.

But her condition has upsides. Like, if she was running away from muggers, she'd make them bite the dust and run to next town before even feeling winded.

You almost couldn't recognize the rest of your friends amongst the countless amount of people who are forced, by conditions or circumstances, to sleep outside. Fortunately, the climate is tropical and hot, meaning nobody is going to freeze to death, but it doesn't feel clean or comfortable. Most people use blankets or even clothes as makeshift bedrolls, which has the unfortunate side effect of making them smell worse than from just the sweat.

Lucas is the only one still awake, fighting the urge to fall asleep as he appears to be standing guard in front of Zillis, sleeping on a makeshift cot against the front of someone's house. You also recognize Reiram sitting asleep in a corner.

It takes a while for him to recognize you, making you feel less stupid about your scene with Mires before. “Lillith?”, he sounds incredulous.

“Are you okay? Can you make the trip?”, you give everyone a cursory look, but they seem to be okay. Tired, maybe, but fine. All considered it could have been much worse, especially from what you've just experienced from your brief stay in Reboldeux, which means either you were very unlucky or they were very lucky.

“Eh? What, like... Now?”, he looks and sounds confused, probably because he's sleepy too.

“No, not right now. We'll depart tomorrow morning”, you assure him, “I want to know if you're okay. Nothing broken, nobody sick?”.

“We... We're okay”, he slowly gets up, “Oh and... Thanks for coming, we were having a really hard time lately, I have to admit”.

“What happened?”.

“Well, plenty of things happened. First there were rumours of undead roaming the countryside, then pirates started attacking the ships, and before long no more supplies were coming from the seas and nobody was leaving the town any longer”, he chuckles, and looks around, “As you can see, the results were...”.

“Why are you sleeping in the streets? What happened with the innkeeper?”.

“He was...”, he frowns and grunts, “The moment things started taking a wrong turn he started overworking us, even more than he usually did, and gave us less and less food because he had to save it for the oncoming harsh times, or so he claimed. We were made to sleep in the kitchen at first and yesterday he just kicked us out, tripled the price of everything like every other dirty merchant and money-counter in this whole town”.

“Don't worry, I'm here to take you away, I'll bring you somewhere better and safer”, you assure him.

“But... What about the undead?”.

“The rumours have been overblown”, you scoff, “Trust me”.

“Can't be worse than here”, he shrugs.

>”I have somewhere to sleep, you should all join me”.
>”I have somewhere to sleep, Zillis should take my place”.
>”Is it safe to sleep outside?”.

I dunno if we could fit everyone, and asking the butts to swap with our friends wouldn't be fair to them.

There is no way we can fit anyone more in that place.

“I have somewhere to sleep, it's indoors and it has beds. I was thinking Zillis should take my place”, you explain. Lucas looks sincerely amazed at the relief you're bringing, and Mires too looks impressed, even though she has a hard time standing still because that's just how she is.

“That would be great, I wouldn't want to make her sleep outside if I can help it”, he looks behind himself and gently shakes her shoulder, “Hey, hey, darling, wake up. Lillith's come”, he looks up at you with a sincere smile, “Thank you”.

“You're welcome”, you answer as you witness Zillis almost jolt awake, snorting as she blinks in confusion, grabbing Lucas' arm with her usually wavy hair stuck on her face on the side that was lying against the large bag she was using as a cushion.

“Sweetie, look, it's Lillith”, Lucas explains, “She's found a bed for you, you won't have to sleep outside any more”.

She's clearly still confused, but she recognizes you very easily, and pinches Lucas as if to make sure she's not sleeping. Somehow, it convinces her, “... We weren't expecting you to come in person... But I'm glad, I thought that demon was just a liar and a prankster...”.

You don't need to work your imagination out to wonder how he could have given such an impression. “He meant well... This time”.

“Lillith says the undead are just an overblown rumour, we should hit the road first thing tomorrow”, Lucas explains while she rubs her eyes to come to terms with being awake again.

“That's great, it really is”, but her voice is still drowsy, “... What about you? Are you-”.

“No, if we have a bed it has to go to you”, Lucas insists, “Don't worry, we'll be fine”.

She looks at him, then at you, then she touches her belly which is beginning to look slightly swollen compared to the last time you saw her, almost a month ago. She sighs, “Thank Iria then, I'd rather give birth in the jungle than stay here one more day”.

Apologies for the early finish but I can't stay awake for much longer, I'm in dire need of sleep.

Still, thank you for participating, thank you for still being with me after a whole year, and see you next episode!

Thanks for the thread man. Any session is good really, there's never too many of them. Feelgood endings are nice.
