I think we can forgo the climate schedule for this iteration, seeing as we haven't even left the sea yet. Don't be surprised if the real OP pops in and slams down an ice age, though. Otherwise, continue as normal I suppose.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• All these starting sepcies are tiny and without any senses. They must adapt to perceive their environment.
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic
• Have fun

Why play the game if we're just going to follow terrestrial evolution step by step, right?

>>42580501
The centralization of sensory ability in the central node has brought about two major changes. The first is a consolidation of the cytoplasm of the plow vesicle into a spongy, vascular structure which is able to transport needed energy to the organ systems more quickly. The second is the duplication and folding of the central node's pressure sensor into something akin to a tympanic membrane. Although its ability to detect pressure changes has been hindered, the bherbum now has a primitive ability to detect the sound of predators even while buried.

Two minor changes have occurred as well – the expansion of the hydraulic membrane into the pedals, and an extension of the now-vestigial anchor muscles further into the vesicle, allowing a greater "feed" reach of the muscle system.

These virmal utilize the new air pockets to create a jet of air, giving them extra speed at the cost of losing some control over their movement as the air pockets refill.

Some of the earlier membraned Sherb expand the membrane to allow them greater photosynthetic area, as well as allowing them to stay up near the surface of the water with less effort, allowing them to soak up more sunlight, and allowing them quicker jumps to avoid predators.

Some of the deeper-water Stripsus develop a mutation that blocks the production of the bright yellow pigment, leaving them a sickly blue color. These are better able to hide in the deeper ocean waters, where their previous yellow pigment would cause them to stick out.

Filaments branch out of the main muscle fibers and form a webbing on the outside of the hydraulic membrane, allowing greater force and control of movement. To meet the ever-growing energy needs of the organ systems, the membranes of the digestive vesicles stretch out into tendrils, which can root into decomposing matter for immediate digestion, rather than having to process the matter piecemeal through the bherbum's thickening outer membrane.

The pressure sensors of the rear nodes became useless after having been encased in the hydraulic membrane. A mutation causes one of the chemicals used in detecting the pressure differential to be altered into a photosensitive chemical. Change in light, rather than pressure, is now interpreted. Because the organism relies on photosynthesis for much of its metabolism, the ability to seek out light improves its survival.

learn to spell?
As far as i see its understandable. thats enough.
I was just responding to an anon that evolves one species. But forgets other species.
I will stop evolving some species.
Since friday there are only 2-3 species continuously evolving. As far as i see there are 2-3 anons doing their pet species, but thats no fun.

Some of the Stripsus Skates develop a rudimentary connection of nerves, adapted from their toxin (which has crystals that conduct electricity fairly well).

This allows them better control over their larger body, allowing for enhanced movement overall.

Honestly i want to see what happens with the role reversal of plants being the primary complex, mobile creatures on the planet and animals remaining relatively small.

Seems like that's the path we're on
>>
>>42583066
Small animals will start eating the plants because the plants lack efficient energy harvesting and storage techniques, because they're plants.
>>
>>42582697
Not the anon you're responding to, but no one is under any obligation to spend equal time on every lineage. In a game where every change is supposed to be gradual, without "pet species" there would be many variations of slightly different slugs and almost nothing more complex. We're two threads in, and we still don't have proper organ systems yet... and that's -with- pet species.

There's nothing wrong with playing your own way, but it's pretty hypocritical to judge others for focusing their efforts.

In fact, the anon you originally responded to (the one who had the herbum go on land) was actually not the one evolving that lineage. I'm the anon that's been doing the bherbum stuff, so he in fact was doing exactly what you want people to do – diversify.

Bherbums move ever closer to the shores and the predators follow. Neural Stripsus improve their crystalline signal network. Now it engulfs their photoreactive spots at the same time improving reaction time and giving them a lens of sorts

The acid spraying planktite develops several more developed nozzles that quickly extrude from their body before spraying, then snap back inside. This focuses the acid more, as well as aiding in propelling the planktite away from threats as well, where the weaker spray from before did not provide enough force to move it.

With Bherbums rapidly adapting to the environment, Sherbs have been left behind in the evolution race and were for a while heavily predated upon. For them running always was a primary defense and their adaptations reflect that.
Sherbs' musculature has advanced somewhat, becoming thicker and spreading around the hole leading to their digestive pocket, which can now close. Stronger tail and again sleek shape allows them to swim very fast and escape the predator if the initial attack was unsuccessful.

The Shelled Vermal begin to live in tight clusters of different individuals. This happened initially as a side-efffect of their reproductive method, as their young tended to get clustered together when settling down into the sediment. Predators finding these colonies often avoided them, as they appeared to be too big and threatening for them to deal with, which increased the survival of Colony Shelled Vermals.

Furthermore, when individual Vermals die they leave perfect spot for larvae Vermals to inhabit which stabilizes the colony growth.

Feeding on Bherbums and Stripsus gives an organism a lot of varied chemicals. One such organism is Spined Cancans. Their primitive neural system now has tiny nodes that perceive electric disturbance. This added sense gives them better capacity at tracking and detection of prey.
