Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to Steadhold and House Malroy.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.

“My Lord, stop pacing,” Maester Benjin speaks in a quiet tone, wringing out one of his sleeves as he sits damp, “It is unbecoming of a Lord to look so nervous.”

Thunder booms overhead, a summer storm that had rolled off of the Narrow Sea following the light rain of the previous days. In truth you had been thankful for not taking ship and having to sail into it, but the anxiousness of this day still tore at you. It had been four days prior that you had been granted audience with the Hand of the King, Lord Jon Arryn. And while you filled the time with petty distractions, drink and your red beauty for the duration, a brief visit to the seamstress for a cloak that was waterproof leading to a small tryst with her daughter once again, and sparring with Ser Wesley and Ser Duncan. The former had joined your side the day after your meeting with your Uncle, Lord Winston Hayford, delivering the contract between your two Houses, one that you signed with happiness. You had been informed that the argument between your other cousin Samuel and uncle had lasted far into the night, with the latter storming off and taking his men home to Hayford. Wesley for his part seemed impartial to the events, instead focusing on meeting your Household and taking great joy in seeing your House’s prized horses again.

You stop your pace and regard Benjin, “Sorry Maester, there is much upon my mind,” you say sighing and resigning yourself to staring from a window. You’re given a view of the garden from the Tower of the Hand, empty from the heavy rain barring a few Gold Cloaks standing guard, unfortunate souls as they were. Ser Haigh walks to your side as Wesley helps the Maester stand up and warm himself by a brazier.
>>
“My Lord, are you certain of this?” Victor asks a seriousness holding his smile at bay, “I still do not know entirely what happened with Ser Wilson, but this seems a brash move. And I’d know brash moves.”

“Yes Victor. it may very well me. Other Houses may consider this my statement of where I stand, the other Vayrian Houses, should they ever know, would consider me an outcast. But… This is for my House,” you say brushing your arm of the water that had collected upon it, before placing your hand on the Knight’s shoulder, “I appreciate it though Victor. Rest easy.”

“Lord Malroy?” a young voice calls from the bottom of a spiralled staircase, his doublet a light blue of House Arryn, “The Hand will see you now, your retainers will stay here. Good Sers would you partake in warmed wine upon my return?”

“Yes page,” Wesley and Victor respond almost in unison.

“Very well,” he says bowing deeply, “My Lord, if you would follow me.”

Nodding off your Knights and Maester you begin after the page, your boots clicking upon the marble echoing his soft and quick set. You’re lead to a small meeting room and find two Knights of the Vale, you recognize the sigil of House Royce but not the other, however your eyes are focused upon the man sitting in wait for you. Grey of hair and with deep wrinkles the man looks his age, but his stature is that of a man twenty years younger. His shoulders rolled back and broad, his posture sharp and straight, and his eyes regard you with the kindness of a grandfather, but the strength of a Lord, “Lord Brynden Malroy, please sit. Tea?”

You sit across of Lord Arryn and give him a peculiar look, “Tea, my Lord?”

He chuckles as he pours the steaming water into a fine cup, “Yes my Lord. Tea. In the Eyrie it is often cold in the morning and I became accustomed to partaking in tea from across of the Sea to warm my old bones. It is often too cold King’s Landing to drink it, but this wet morning gave enough of a chill for it. So, tea, my Lord?”

Tilting your head in acknowledgement, “Of course my Lord, thank you.”

He nods along with your words and pours a second cup, before picking up his own and sipping from it, relishing the warmth with half lidded eyes, he regards you once more with fullness, “So my Lord. I have a moment’s time to speak before the realm at large is in need of my services. Your letter spoken of something of great import, of what do you speak?”

>Immediately begin to tell Lord Arryn of the Celtigar plots
>>
>>42580999
The fact that we are a Targ loyalist house made me actually read up a bit on all the Targs. Got to Aegon IV

>Aegon gave away priceless treasures to Lords who managed to please him and for the sake of his desires: an example, on one of his many trips he gifted a dragon egg to Lord Butterwell, after guesting at his castle and allegedly impregnating his host's three maiden daughters in one night

Kek. Which reminds me. Nothing in the backstory is about what our family did during his regin. Atleast what i could see.
>>
“My Lord, I wished to speak to you of a matter of importance brought to my attention within recent days,” you begin not entirely sure of how to particularly start this conversation, the Royce Knight eyes you, the other seems unconcerned of your presence. You brush dark hair back behind your ear and take the cup, sipping from the warm liquid. Tasted of Essos, bitter to a degree, but not unpleasant, Lord Arryn seemed to be enjoying it still while waiting for you to continue.

Breathing in deeply you place the cup down and launch into an explanation of all that you had learned in the past few days and since your return to the Crownlands. Of the Lord Ardrian Celtigar’s plots to cease upon ancient claims with the Targaryens gone, centuries old promises may well be forgotten, and retake Crackclaw Point. Throwing the Crownlands into war and disarray. Of his consolidation of power by marrying his family to the other Valyrian Houses his eldest daughter to Lord Velaryon, the youngest to their bannerhouse the Lukens. And of his plan to marry yourself to his second daughter, using a dowry large enough to cover your debt but in turn indebting yourself to him. Alliances wrought of marriage in a bid to gain foothold upon the mainland once more. To expand their wealth and power in the wake of a war that battered the realm. Of the young Ser Wilson’s part in it. Everything you could manage.

He sat in cold silence, nodding along to your long explanation. Your conclusions and half felt assumptions that you noted as to not tie yourself to them as truths. Part way through he took to another cup of tea, the steam being considerably less now. The page returns and gives the knights mulled wine which they take away from yourself and Lord Arryn. Upon your finish you feel your mouth run dry, and take a drink yourself, the tea having cooled significantly in the time it took to tell of the plots.
>>
“My Lord, these are large claims. Claims based upon the words of a second son that fancies himself a Hedge Knight. I’ve no doubt you speak true, but the fact remains that we’ve no way to validate them as you yet,” he begins his eyes meeting yours without a single notice of care, “Be that as it may. Lord Stannis would likely wish to hear of this, as they are his bannermen, and he is Master of Ships to his Grace.”

Rolling his neck for a moment the elder Lord seems discontented, not necessarily because of truths told, but because of the implications should they remain whole. King Robert I Baratheon no doubt would relish in the chance to go to war again, so bored as he was, and you worried the Valyrian Houses would see their end should they form against the Crown in such a way. Not to mention the greater divide it would put between the two Baratheon brothers, you had heard only whispers of it, but did not doubt they were very much opposites in their purposes and demeanour.

“I will give word to Lord Stannis Baratheon upon his return to King’s Landing in three months hence, my Lord. Given your trial prior I’ve no doubt you will be available to speak with him should he wish further word?”

“Yes of course Lord Hand,” you respond suddenly realizing the depth this may go, washing your hands of the situation was a harder deed than it would seem.
>>
“Very good my Lord. Speaking of your trial…” he shifts uncomfortably and the Royce Knight goes to offer him hand, but it waved off, and he settles again, “As I was saying, your trial, have you considered what you may say in your defense my Lord?”

In truth you had not, it was a mockery, a mummer's farce and you bloody well knew it. A trial based upon perceived slights, and your personal relations to the Crown. The greatest of which was insult to Ser Jaime Lannister, not of spoken name but enough to call to question his honor and that of the Queen’s family. Perhaps a poor choice for a son of Valyria. You had considered listening to evidence of Lords and Ladies upon the Crown’s teat and then simply demanding a trial by combat.

>Tell Lord Arryn the truth, you had absolutely nothing prepared
>Lie to Lord Arryn, tell him you’re ready

>>42581089
House Malroy is a House known for their martial tradition and their loyalty to the Crown. You'll note the only Maester of note to ever come from the House was a mere footnote. I avoided times of peace for the most part, because the Lords of Steadhold enjoy writing of their great deeds.
>>
>>42581218
>Tell Lord Arryn the truth, you had absolutely nothing prepared

Lets be honest here. Maybe we could get some help from him. He is after all a good and honest man.

I doubt it but the alternative is worse.

That we shouldnt have to suffer for the actions of our misguided family and the penalties that has been bestowed on us are unfair.
>>
>>42581301

>>
>>42581301
>>42581353

This is for the most part true. Though only to the extent of the further 1000 gold dragons the Queen place upon your debt.

Basically. What you said called Jaime Lannister's honor to question. Solhas Za Tarbeck's presence was a perceived slight to the Lannisters. And bringing a Tyrell bastard to court, Ser Mason, much the same. So yeah salty as fuck over slights.

This in turn lead us to receive a greater penalty to our debt and you were unable to logic your way out of it.

It's actually kind of messy. I'm not even sure who the accuser and the accused are is here.
>>
>>42581376
The Realm would have been a more interesting place if he had fathered a bastard or two in each of the regions of Westeros.

I've been preoccupied. The Lagwards are massing troops to attack me and my house
>>
>>42581439
It is pretty much about what the Queen did is unfair and illigal. She has not right nor authority to bestow that extra fine on us. Pretty much Cersei being a salty bitch.
>>
>>42581468
Redwards anon. We already dealt with those lagwards.
>>
>>42581439
> called Jaime Lannister's honor to question.
Funny that, a few years down the line, Jaime himself would agree with our claim.
>perceived slight to the Lannisters
Yet we haven't heard words of Tywin "Make it Reynes" Lannister being salty over it, and frankly if he ever gets salty over it we can kiss our ass goodbye
>Tyrell bastard to court
Oh the irony when the Queen Bitch herself apoint Aurane WATER as Master of Ships by the time of AFFC

Shame that we're not a social animal 'cause we could have tore Cercei a new one that Robert would consider us as a potential Hand when Jon Arryn kick the bucket
>>
>>42581664
Well. Cersei is considered extremely petty, emotional, arrogant and inconsistent. So this is totally the norm when it comes to her.

But yes, the irony will be delicious. Hope we live to see it.
>>
>>42581664
>Oh the irony when the Queen Bitch herself apoint Aurane WATER as Master of Ships by the time of AFFC

Didnt he make him Master of Ships with the only reason by the fact that he was good looking ?

Then he ran away and became a pirate with the entire Blackwater Fleet.
>>
>>42581765
Yeah she though he looked like Rhaegar and that he had the hots for her.
>>
You wished for wine at this moment, no doubt the lack of it was a purposefully action form Lord Arryn, which was strange. Often Lords would employ wine to loosen the tongues of those they spoke to, you would imagine he would want you more on your back foot admitting more than you had intended, instead he simply kept his eyes to yours and sipped upon his tea. In this, he actually felt more intimidating, you were not the rogue arguing over coin with this man. You were a Lord in service.

“In truth my Lord… I erm… Have not,” you respond not being able to keep the words Benjin wished upon you, “I’ve been distracted by the state of my House’s Domain, the penalties placed upon me draining the coffers, by a man to the south that holds much of my family’s land and may be amassing troops.”

“Troops that trespass upon your land my Lord?”

“Well… No. My Lord. They have kept to the Redward’s domain.”

“Then a note of which you may disregard. Lord Redward has no such military restrictions upon him my Lord. So long as he does not disturb the King’s Peace, he is the right to hold a standing army. Do you agree my Lord?”

It discontented you, but you did not wish to speak against the Hand in such a way, “Of course my Lord. You are correct.”

“Very good my Lord,” he takes another sip of his tea, realizing it is empty and sends his page off to fetch another kettle of water, “Regardless, for a Lord distracted by the state of his Household he certainly finds time to continue to find its ruin. Fighting in taverns, my Lord? Unbecoming to say the least. Or must I remind you that you are no longer in Essos?”
>>
“I-I, no my Lord. You do not, I… I had a lapse of judgement my Lord,” you stammer out, he caught you out. Suddenly you were the child, the elder man brow beating you into submission.

“To say the least my Lord. You must be wise in your decisions my Lord. There are ears and eyes everywhere in this city,” he says watching his page struggle in with the kettle before taking it with gracefully from his hands and pouring another cup, “That being said. You are known for being a sellsword my Lord. The court was abuzz with delight of your homecoming, so rare as it is to meet someone of your… Stature.”

You are unsure of how to respond, and gesture unknowingly, “Something of note is in that my Lord?”
“Yes my Lord. There is. Challenge them to a Trial by Combat. You will likely fight a member of the Kingsguard since this trial is related to the Crown. But not Ser Jaime himself as he will be too preoccupied by the joust the days after. Ser Barristan much the same,” he sips again and enjoys the warmth, “And this is not to mention the King himself. Robert will delight in seeing such open his Tourney. Gossip of your prowess will spread. You will be dissolved of blame and perhaps open relations with the realm again.”
>>
You go to speak, unsure of why he would advise such actions, but he cuts you off, “This is assuming of course you win, my Lord. I could be misjudging you, perhaps you are not the master of sword and lance your Uncle was. Or perhaps you do have a defense waiting in store and simply thought better than to answer with truth. Time will tell.”

Sitting back into your seat you eye Lord Arryn, a strange beast this man was, enough to wrangle the realm into shape, to set two sons of noble birth to such heights, you had an odd respect for him. For his part Lord Arryn maintains his eye contact and sharp look upon you, “Is there anything else you would like to speak of my Lord?”

>Speak of your debt, he seems to be open to giving advice today
>Speak of the Tourney better not to push your luck

>>42581664
Oh yeah, down the line this shit will be real damn funny.
>>

>>42581958
If I remember correctly Aurane staffed most of the crews with his own men, at least in important positions. No doubt there was some mutiny and killing of those still loyal to the Crown, but yeah, that's how you steal an entire damn fleet. You take advantage of a dumb Queen.
>>
>>42581958

Deciding to press your luck today you lean forward and attempt to gain footing in the conversation again, “My Lord. If I may, the debt placed upon my House is… Crippling. To put it lightly. How is it expected to be paid?”

Lord Arryn seems ruffled by the question, but not in an unhappy way, more so in one of malcontent to a conversation he had spoken to before, “My Lord Malroy, in truth it is not. Unless your family would stumble upon a lost treasure of the Dragonlords themselves, or sell their House out from underneath themselves. Lord Baelish devised this plan as a means to keep the Houses of the realm in line, and fund payments to the Iron Bank. It is cruel to a degree but when war spends in excess, we do what we must.”

You pick upon his tone, he did not seem to particularly enjoy this himself, “And of your opinion my Lord?”

The elder Lord sips at his tea again and looks out the window, finally breaking his eye contact with you, “That it is beyond excessive. We would drain the Crownlands, and do the Throne no favors. The Tyrells, Celtigars, Houses with wealth to spare, they paid with haste, they rid themselves of debt and thrive. But those Houses like yourself? You struggle, crippled. I have known Houses to refinance with banks of Essos. An incredibly dangerous game, one of the Reach I have heard tell had to sell their daughter to a merchant prince, for defaulting. Petty rumors perhaps, but they speak to danger all the same.”
>>
You had thought much the same in the previous months, there were banks aplenty across the Narrow Sea once you had been contracted by one to collect upon a debt, a collection that involved a lot of death. You stopped taking bank contracts after that.

“I could not advise such an action my Lord. But… In your desperation. Perhaps you would find it more suitable. No doubt you know better the men of Essos than our other Lords. There is a Pentoshi banker here I believe. Lord Baelish spoke of him night’s prior and him denying his terms, citing the loan to be too little,” he continues staring out the window, watching a whip crack of lightning streak across the sky above the sea, “However what you do with that information is your own doing my Lord. As far as those around us know, you never heard such words from me.”

Lord Arryn smiles a toothless grin and turns to face you once more, regarding you fully, “My Lord, I’m afraid my time with you has come to an end. As I am sure you are well aware such a meeting is… Irregular, calling upon the Hand of the King for private audience was bold my Lord. Perhaps too bold, so in return I will ask a favor of you.”

The Royce knight goes to move, the other following him, “Ser Royce here will be escorting a young lady and her newborn child to your villa. I have come to the understanding that your Master-of-Horse is beyond exceptional. When the child comes of age, he will receive payment to take the boy as an apprentice. In return, you will ask no question of the mother nor myself, and you will take them into your Household without issue. Is this agreed my Lord?”

Leaning back again you give the elder a look of knowing, very clearly there was something more to this, it was so incredibly obvious that he did not even hide it upon his face. Finishing his tea and sighing with a certain happiness he regards you with another toothless smile and a nod, “As I thought my Lord. I thank you for your service to the realm.” Lord Arryn goes to stand and does with the grace and strength of a man half his age, “Come my Lord. I would ask your escort.”

You stand again and brush your cloak back, a fine dark black of some waterborne mammal, you were unusual of which, your seamstress was busy with her mouth elsewhere upon the question. Lord Arryn takes a place beside you and takes your arm, suddenly seeming the elder man he was to be, the grandfather you never had. The man gumming at food and half liddedly eyeing young women in his elder’s lust. Not the man that had beat you at your own game, brow beating you into submission before his might. Truly a strange beast he was.

“Very good my Lord. Easy on the stairs, my knee never does well on days such as this,” he says as you begin your slow descent.
>>
Your trip slowly down is filled with idle chat of the Tourney, he had a number of men of the Vale intending to compete. When asked of your status amongst the lists you admitted to having no plate mail of which to ride in, a note he lamented wishing to see your family’s horses make a showing in King’s Landing once more. When asked of further intent,, you admitted to desire of joining the melee and competing in the archery contest. He told you of the Summer Islander that Robert had allowed at court and he had constantly had to dissuade him from entertaining the idea of conquering the Summer Isles. As it was supposedly he was an exceptional archer and would be competing as well.

Upon the bottom, a member of the Kingsguard greets you and Lord Arryn, taking charge of the Hand’s escort. He regards Ser Haigh and Hayford with a nod of acknowledgement and speaks briefly with Benjin before departing without ny final words.

“That went… Well? I hope?” Victor asks drawing close to your side.

“I would think Ser Haigh,” you respond watching them off with a look of uncaring, “Wesley, where would you find a banker in this city?”

“Of Essos? I imagine?” your cousin responds confused.

“Yes, of Essos, Pentos specifically. I’ve no doubt your brother would have met with them at some point. In particular location we might check?”

The young knight scratches at the dusting of hair upon his chin, “A few places Brynden. Though I have no desire to travel King’s Landing in this storm. Perhaps tomorrow I could show you?”

Speaking of which. Do we even know the name of the redhead or what she calls herself. Or really any character interaction ?

Woah, two days in a row
>>
>>42582546
I'd figure the starks would get more "lost a bunch of family" sympathy than the baratheons.
>>
Looking to the midday’s sky you agreed with your cousin, though not because of his dislike for the storms. More so because you knew the Pentoshi if this man was anything like those you met before he was likely a merchant prince with a stake in a bank, of which you could not imagine. But one that much preferred fineries, golden wines and warm foods, plush pillows and soft women. And damn hard to pull extra coin from, you swore their coin purse tighter than their arsehole where a stick was petually lodged. If you wished to strike a deal with the man you would need to cater to him, but still you knew something that gave you an edge. He had already been dismissed by Lord Baelish, any extra that he could offer the Throne in a sudden influx from a fortunateness business deal may tip the scales in his favor. And no doubt he would take great joy in making such money.

“A point well made Wesley. When we return to the villa, give the squires information of where we might find such a man. I will provide a likely description, all Pentoshi look alike anyway,” you respond.

“Of course cousin, it will be done,” he says with pride in his voice, feeling useful. If you knew any better it was often the younger boy felt overlooked, his services to House Hayford being so far from their usual dealings. Even if you made an enemy of the elder brother, this one was your man.

“Come, let us return then. Benjin, when you dry yourself meet me in my solar, I have need of your counsel,” you tell them and lead the way from the Tower of the Hand and subsequently from the Red Keep to your villa. The rain has lightened significantly, and you find yourself enjoying the cool breeze that rolls in after. As you draw closer to your villa you see Ser Royce standing with a woman shrouded in a heavy cloak, and hear the wail of a child in her arms.
>>
As you approach the Knight regards you with tired eyes, “Your problem now my Lord. I will take my leave,” he says quickly and leaves without chance to respond. The young woman looks to you, want of sleep in her eyes, the babe held to her bare breast, but not suckling as it should be. Instead wailing for all he is worth.

“Milord, my apologizes for Robb, I’ve no milk to give, milord,” she says in strained voice while bowing as she can. Taking her in for a moment you see an inherent beauty, but not that of a whore.

“Ser Haigh. Escort the young woman and her babe to the kitchens, get them fed,” you say stiffly not wishing for further assault upon your ear.

“Of course my Lord,” he responds and leaves off, the rest of your retinue scattering as well.

A strong lunch of heavy soup and two or three glasses of mulled wine later you find yourself sitting in your solar, going over the papers Benjin had left for you, a few were taken from your Horse’s lineage books, coupled by the Maester upon their retrieval. They were the only true signs you had potential wealth, and likely your ace in the hole.
>>
Benjin enters unannounced and takes his seat, glad for the warm wine offered, “My Lord, you seem content. I assume your meeting went well?”

“As well as it could Benjin. We spoke of the trial and of my House’s debt. The latter of which I would ask opinion upon,” you respond.

“Ah yes. Your Pentoshi banker,” he drinks deep from the goblet for a moment, “I am ill at ease with it my Lord. As I’m sure Dontos would be.”

“And yet I plan to proceed,” you say fixing him with a level gaze, “I need opinion of approach. We have wealth as of moment to spare for this. I may need to spend some to receive the best possible deal from our banker.”

Benjin furrows his brow and clicks his tongue, “My Lord, it would not be a difficult task. But perhaps… Perhaps we should not. What if this plan ends a failure? Then we lose coin upon a drunken banker, and your House comes out the worse for it. If you intend to proceed, I would offer to send men out to procure meal for a banquet tomorrow evening, wine, do as you see fit. But I do protest, you are a capable negotiator my Lord. Pomp and fanciful meals may not be necessary when you are capable of talking a man down so.”

Actually i would spend the money on Illad's brother before any future upgrades. That farm we are currently building hasnt finished yet either. 3 more months for that. But the extra income it will give will be nice
>>
Benjin spoke to you in such a manner as to flatter, not out of necessity but to remind you that you were still a Lord, someone that did not receive his place by mere chance, but from calculated decision from those that now supported you. Still, you knew Essosi men better than them, and you would need that edge to facilitate a better deal. Or the best you could manage. There was no option of failure here as far as you concerned, money spent to ensure that.

“Maester I share you concerns, and yet they worry me little,” you say, his brow ridging deeper, “I will make a list that of things necessary, assure those among us are in their best, and we will make this debt bearable. I promise you that. A mind loosened by wine and extravagance is one more inclined to be swayed by my word, no?”

“As you say my Lord,” he responds sighing as he does so, “Just be happy your Uncle is not here. The past week would have given the poor man to the Stranger in the shortest of order. When we return, do be delicate with how you break the news to him, hm?”

“Of course Benjin, you have my word,” you respond with a smile that he seems uncontented by.

“I will begin collection of documents necessary my Lord. I do believe we have the original contract with the Crown with us, foresight intended for the Celtigars, though I do suppose this serves equal purpose,” the Maester says before gathering himself and begging leave. This allows you another moment of quiet thought, the storm has begun again and the servants had stoked your fire to a bright roar in anticipation of your return. These sounds coupled drowned out the wailing of the child you now found among your Household. It seemed such an odd request, Lord Arryn did not make it lightly you felt, but there was something off about the situation. Regardless, Gaen would be happy for another apprentice, when he came of age the elder Horsemaster would likely need all the help he could get.
>>
Pushing thoughts from your mind you begin scrawling the necessary items for tomorrow’s banquet. Writing letters of approach, descriptions of Pentoshi for your pages and squires to look for, Wesley had left with you locations and those you wrote down as well. It was odd to write, your form had yet to improve much, but it was readable. You were never one for all of this, Mason usually did it if you had a personal contract otherwise the higher ups in the Second Sons did. It felt odd, though in a good way, an accomplished way.

Spending the evening sending your men out to gather things and deliver letters you partake in a meal alone, before partaking in a night of wild abandon with the young lady Talia. She spoke only Valyrian it would seem, and you communicated in bits and pieces. You had managed to pull from her that she was of Volantis originally, sold as a slave and brought here. Otherwise you knew little cared even less to some degree, she simply made the nights easier, taking your stresses away with the sweet songs of passion and warmth of flesh.

Upon the morning you had received a letter in response, Dominic had apparently found the Pentoshi banker in one of the upscale taverns upon the docks, intent upon home, but had accepted food and call for audience happily. His name was Noraro Aros, something Dominic struggled through four or five times, and was as you had suspected. Obese with excess, heavily perfumed, dressed in finery with gold but despoiled it all with gluttony. An easy target comparably. The young merchant prince’s with fire of youth in their eyes were always more difficult to deal with, this one, he would be glad for pomp.
>>
Illiad had come to you during the day as your servants prepared, instructing upon proper procedure for handling the Pentoshi as he had before, defining words of casual use in their tongue, and as always being helpful in his nature. You asked him sit with you for the meeting, so he may translate if it was required and offer he happily accepted. Though that left you with a thought, to what degree of strength did you want to appear? You could surround yourself with the Knights of Westeros, looking a true Lord. Or rather the Sons, appearing more a kinsman than a strange native of this land. And their was final thought to only come with yourself and Illiad, appear meek and mild. All valid approaches you thought.

>Surround yourself with your Knights and Benjin?
>Surround yourself with the Sons of Gold?
>Go it alone, sans Illiad

>>42584054
Yeah pretty much. Though as a whore she is likely to understand when you leave and bid her off. Just the whole problem if you knock her up.

The Sons of Gold you decide, they would be your entourage, Solhas and Barq Zos taking their places behind you as the silent dark bodyguards they appeared. Illiad at your side as translator, though he was not a slave he was quite good at playing the part should he need too, a routine you had used before. Deciding Asher and Ser Haigh too much of Westeros to bring upon your other hand, you settle for Sallo, a man of Lys. He was odd in that he spoke the common tongue as well as you, but looked every bit the man of the Free Cities, and carried a sword not unlike the dothraki. A good fit to appear the estranged countryman. Gathering your men and instructing them upon procedure along with Illiad felt like days of old, they listened and nodded, and obeyed, taking their places along with you, the others their places among the House. Your Knights would of course still be attending, but in lesser roles, Wesley hadn’t taken it as well. But understood after a brief explanation of your purposes.

The storm of the day prior had finally swept to the west, sun peaked from the clouds and gave the day a humid feel, one you disliked in your garb. Solhas and Barq Zos had donned their feathered mantles of the colors of your House, a gesture you always appreciated. Solla looked a sellsword, and Illiad the meek slave at your side, but with a sly smile upon his lips. And then you waited to receive your guests before your villa. Ser Duncan and Victor were to escort them, and when you saw the lumbering litter following the two Knights, you noted a desperate look of restrained laughter upon Ser Haigh’s face.
>>
It took the better part of an hour for the litter to finish its journey, you noted men garbed fabulously but still with the look of sellsword. Pentoshi were not allowed by law to hire sellswords, but often employed them under dubious under cuttings of the law. Two of them made for the door to the wagon that creaked and ached under the weight it was being relieved of, a man thrice your size emerged, supported on either side by the two men. Not wishing to put your guest out you approach and regard him with a degree of respect, “The honored Nararo Aros I am to presume?” you ask in your velvet voice Illiad repeating after.

Sweat pooled upon his brow, a fan waved in his hand in a vain attempt to ward of the humidity of the day, you smelled perfume, but underneath it the smell of rotten piss, ignored as it would have to be, he flashes a toothy grin of golden teeth, “The Lord Brynden Malroy as I am too as well?” he responds and bows with an assisted grace.

You exchange pleasantries and invite him and his litter into the villa, escorting your guest, to your dining hall. It had been outfitted with the colors of your House elegant silks of gold and violet hung, plush seat awaiting its obese guest with likely nervousness. You had managed a few servants of particular beauty, garbed lightly with sheer clothing leaving little to the imagination. Not the Household of a Lord, but rather that of a man from across the sea, he took the sights in with a certain glee and proceeded to his seat with a lumbering quickness, it strained and whined for a moment and he settled in happily biding his men off. You took a seat next to him, your men taking their spots, his eyes rested upon Barq Zos, a look that left the man uncomfortable.
>>
“Lord Malroy, I had no idea you were such a man of exquisite taste, the beauty of the Summer Islers,” he shudders in a seeming pleasure, “It is simply stunning. I envy your manservant my Lord.”

Illiad had almost lost his composure translating for Barq Zos who for his part looked equal parts disgusted and wanting of a bath, but maintain his position as well, the Pentoshi eyeing him with a lust. Wishing your friend of his desired looks you give word to begin serving the banquet. A seven course meal, all of make from the lands across the Narrow Sea you were lucky enough to remember most of them, the others filled in by a chef you had found early in the morning. Not a cheap man by any imagination, but he knew his Essosi dishes.

Noraro took to the food with such gluttony it almost disgusted you, smacking his lips, suckling marrow from bone, licking his greasy fat fingers clean. To entertain such a man almost felt below you, but it was not the man you needed, it was rather his money. Upon the sixth dish you had only begun to pluck at food, while your guest continued his onslaught, but spoke to you in between washes of wine.

“My Lord Malroy. You have a name of the Valyrians, we thought you all extinct, such luck it must be,” he says, gnawing on a bone a moment more.

“Luck indeed,” you respond and finally breach your preferred subject, “Though luckier still with a coin to such name.”

He stops a moment and eyes you with half lidded eye from a roll of fat, “Coin indeed my Lord. Coin the Bank of Bays would be happy to provide. Should you find need.”

He was receptive to the idea at least, but how you wished to proceed was as of yet undecided, you could talk the man down into a contract, intimidate him like your uncle Lord Hayford. Or instead rely upon honeyed word, using your cunning and persuasion to your fullest.

>Intimidate him

All the finery, the pomp, the extravagance it had served purpose. Plied the man of his wits, awash in his vices, he regarded you with the look of a man interested in your word, giving you far too much edge. You bet correctly, a bet you were glad to have made. You watch as a final dish is served something more of mixed nature. A luxurious chocolate mousse, a hint of heat spliced throughout, topped with whipped cream peaked so delicately and highly it impressed even yourself. Noraro delicately takes a spoonful of the dish, deep and dark so rich it was and flashes a glance at Barq Zos, before licking it from his spoon and shuddering in happiness yet again. You owed your man much after this night, if he did not pluck out his own eyes in wish of never seeing such again.

Partaking in the dish yourself you enjoy the swift heat and wash it down with a sweet red wine, before setting into your target, flattery of the man, exploitation of his vices, those were your keys. If that failed, delve into his failures, “My honored guest, would you perhaps speak to me further of this Bank of Bays, I fear in my ignorance I know little of it.”

Noraro takes exception to this and ruffles himself up like a fat chicken, “My Lord! To hear such from your lips hurts me upon measure. The Bank of Bays is no less prestigious and an institution as the Iron Bank of Braavos. And one of much finer rates, it is a wonder we have yet to eclipse the Braavos.”

“I would beg forgiveness Lord Noraro,” you slide in, appearing the ignorant Westeros you almost began to delve into your voice of flirtation, “Surely such rates. Such prestige would only be bestow upon the most worthy. No?”
>>
He settles again and licks at his dessert, contemplating, “Yes my Lord Malroy, that is the truth of it. Such as those that honor her shareholders in such lavish banquets and bestow such honors upon them.”

There was an in, “Surely you jest my honored guest? To extend such to my House hung low? You would be a hero to my Household. To be included among the shortlist of all banquets and balls.”

He wiggles in his seat, happy to the words upon his ears, your voice did wonders your eyes refocused to that of flattery not frightening fire, “Well my Lord, I have heard word of your Crown placing tremendous debts upon Houses, I would fear to ask, but perhaps do you find yourself in such a situation?”

You play the wounded man, shame in your eyes and upon your voice, “Alas it is so Lord Noraro, I would only be so lucky as to find myself in the company of a man such as yourself. To offer such things upon single meeting.”

He leans to the side and catches your ear in a less than subtle matter, “My Lord Malroy I would be more than happy to discuss terms of refinancing with your House on behalf of the Bank of Bays. Should we find something more private to do so my Lord?”
>>
Nodding in acceptance you nod off your men and he calls to his, you lead them along at a slow pace to your solar, and help the disgusting man into a new seat before taking your own. You provide him with papers upon papers, of the contract you signed with the Crown. Of your monthly incomes, of your Horses, your House, everything. He reads them deeply, taking them into account one after another and often you find him scribbling and asking question of seemingly little import.

Finally he announces, “My Lord I do believe I can extend you a loan to the sum of 24,000 of your gold dragons, one a 20 year payment schedule. A much more manageable sum is it not? I do believe that is all it would take to pay your debt to your Crown as of now.”

You did not believe him, he lied through his teeth wishing to set you upon a larger sum, offering more to his own loan to the Crown.

You spread a few papers before the man and tally a sum quickly, always better with numbers you were, the sellsword contract maker coming out again in a brief hurry, “My Lord Noraro, I do believe my House is in need of a sum of 20,000 gold dragons at present. Any more would be excessive.”

He furrows his fat brow and whips seat from it for a moment, “A yes my Lord. In that you are correct, a simple miscalculation. Though I had rather thought your House enjoyed the excessive,” he speaks, pulling for papers and his notes again.

“Only upon honored guests my Lord Noraro. My gold is in my Horses, not spent elsewhere in frivolous nature,” you respond changing your look to one of more a concerned Lord.

“An excellent thing to hear my Lord Malroy. We of the Bank of Bays would be highly disappointed should we need to collect upon a defaulted loan, and find it wasted upon fleeting winds,” he responded placing a paper carefully and patting it. Though he enjoyed the excessive lifestyle his position afforded him he was still every bit the businessman in truth, cared for coin, and that it was paid upon time.

He begins again, licking his lips again, “Now my dear Lord Malroy, a loan of 20,000, would be more along the lines of an eight and a half year repayment plan. You must understand the need for such a shorter repayment period. Such a sum, it is child’s play to that of a Lord no?”

That would be eight years of the same sort of payments you were already making, 400 gold dragons was simply too much and drug you dangerously close far too close to nothing often, no a long term, but one of half a payment would be suitable better.

Um... No not quite. The loan is refinancing your entire debt. It is paying your current sum, the interest it would have accrued, and a fee that early repayment would bring.

And technically the loan from the Bank of Bays is less, I just calculated interest into it, and gave you the long term end goal, which is the 20,000 gold dragons. Making it less ambiguous how much you actually owe, and more in the realm of manageable.

“Perhaps for Lords of the Reach my honored guest, but for myself? I? By the Seven no, a term of seventeen years would serve me far better, horses are a holding of length my Lord. I simply do not pluck them from a tree. Nor make wine upon the seasons,” you respond pushing to the papers describing the length to which Gawen must go assuring the finest horses, “If it was not upon your initial word I would think nothing of it my Lord Noraro, but to offer such a term, then replace it? I would think better of the Bank of Bays.”

The Pentoshi sits back and raise his goblet to his lips, there’s a nervousness on his look now, he knows that you’ve suddenly taken the reigns of this contract and are pushing it into your favor, “Of course, Lord Malroy. We would not have you thinking ill of us upon the first meeting. Not when you showered myself with such lavish pleasures.”

“Ah good, my Lord Noraro. I had become worried for a moment,” you respond, “I simply hadn’t wished for this meeting to be for naught. It would be a shame for you to return home with no contract, would it not?”

His eyes widen for a moment to that, and fix upon your own, suddenly finding emerald flame returning the gaze, and he stopped for a moment, suddenly not wishing to continue this line of discussion and returning to his papers, “I believe my Lord would be also be accepted into our payment reimbursement program. As the seasons change in such unknows we understand how difficult some month may be, and will allow for a month of the year to be return to your family. In your case, a sum of 200 dragons, for that one month. An offer we extend to little my Lord. I would hope that should smooth any slights?”

Small loan with small interest? We could use this for a long term gain on our larger debt
>>
Smiling in response you nod along to his words they had become hurried and rushed, his breath ragged by the end, even sitting his body struggled to contest with its weight, this man for all his finery and perfume was nothing more than a guttersnake, seeking to pry from you wealth, and in turn feast. It disgusted you, though your visage took another one of happiness, of a man that had just made a deal to save his House in terms far more manageable.

“I do believe… We are done the Lord Malroy. I will see to the terms of this contract, and place it in your hands tomorrow to be signed. Then travel to the Red Keep in short order, bed audience of the Master of Coin and repay your debt with certain glee,” he says rolling himself into a false smile of golden teeth, “Is this acceptable my Lord?”

So to break it down:
You will receive a loan of 20,000 gold dragons through the Bank of Bays.
Through Noraro, it will be used to pay your current debt to the Crown, fully.
Then for 17 years you will pay 200 gold dragons (1 Wealth) per month.
The last month of each year, you will be reimbursed your 200 gold dragons, saving you 3,400 gold dragons (17 Wealth).

Is this acceptable?
Anything else you would like to do, bring up? Discuss further in an attempt to gain more or less?

>>42587000
Yeah that's just her being a salty bitch. In truth the trial is more about your person and the history of your House being used as an excuse to unlawfully add debt. Though calling Jaime's honor into question is rather serious. He is a War Hero in the eyes of the Crown, not a backstabbing murderer.

Also holy chirst if I need to do 3 more captchas in a row again I'll kill a man.
>>
>>42587338
>Anything else you would like to do, bring up? Discuss further in an attempt to gain more or less?

Not that i can think off. Not sure how we can improve it.
>>
>>42587338
Acceptable. If we push too hard we might fuck ourselves over.

And what did Cao Cao do to you?
>>
>>42587338
Ha, those terms are beautiful compared to the crown debt. Peter is going to eat his own hat when we get out of it.
>>
>>42587320
That would have been the Intimidate path. Instead, you used the banquet and flattery to your advantage.

That isn't to say you can't try it anyway, but it would be more in line with gaining a larger loan. Which, really I don't know why you'd want to after he tried to cheat you initially.

>>42587391
I honestly don't know myself. I was more opening it up had you all wanted to do something specific.

>>42587402
The Crown is unlikely to be pleased, that is for certain.

Also if you're curious. Yes, that is the sum that the Celtigar Dowry would have been. I was not kidding when I said it was substantial.
>>
>>42587338
Let's go with this, we can work with it.

Also, are the Redwards and Langwards related in any way that we know of?
>>
>>42587455
>Celtigar prepared to pay 100 Wealth for support to gain Crackclaw Point

At that price, I hope they produce actual crack.
>>
>>42587458

Through ancient ties yes. There's a bit in the House Malroy History that speaks to that.

Abridged version.
Langward Knight does great deed for Malroy Lord
Is given the Red Tower and Landed by his son.
Takes the name Redward, because of the circumstances of his ascension.

Mostly now though, they are so far distanced it doesn't matter. But they're both young dick ass Nobles.

>>42587502
Celtigars don't fuck around. They were real serious about retaking the Point.

Anyway, looks like we're content with the deal. I'll go ahead with it and roll into the next scene.
>>
So, I think it's fair to reclassify our house's position from "fucked" to "in bad shape."
>>
>>42587541
YES, TAKE THE DEAL!
>>
>>42588053
Fair, but we really need to win that melee and get in the kings good books when we go for our trial. Its a surefire way to gain enough fast prestige our southerly neighbor cant just waltz in and fuck our shit up.
>>
Leaning back into your seat you feel a sudden burden removed from your shoulders, and breath deeply, there was still a debt to be paid, but one that was within reason, within your lifetime even. You future children may never even see it when they took over the House should you be so lucky, “Yes Lord Noraro, I do believe these terms are acceptable. More than in fact. You do my House such honor in this, you truly have not the slightest idea. Though I would hope tonight’s festivities have shown otherwise?”
“My Lord Malroy, they do so and more. I am pleased to have come to such a… favorable contract in refinancing your debt. The Bank of Bays is more than pleased to serve you in this endeavour,” he says and offers a fat hand.

You take it and shake, put off by how moist it was the warmth of the golden rings squeezing his fingers into pink sausages. After a rough shake on your end that leaves him flexing his fingers he calls for his servants, “My Lord I would beg leave of you for the night. While I more than appreciate your House’s hospitality I find myself want of sleep. And of a taste for flesh, I don’t suppose your Summer Islander manservant is available?”
>>
Almost throwing up in your mouth you quickly come up with an excuse as to Barq’s importance to you, that you would be dismayed to see him from your side, and he seems convinced, though not thoroughly and with disappointment. Seeing your guest off into his litter again, you wait patiently as they take their lumbering journey back into King’s Landing. Having grown dark from the night, the sky grey blue from an overcast, threatening rain again. Ser Haigh goes with them as escort again and you finally slump as you see them disappear into the distance. It was done. Though a burden still, it was one of significantly less insurmountable odds.

For a moment you go to watch the servants tear down the dining hall. A few of your House still there milling about, young Ser Wesley had found himself caught up in the attentions of one of your hired servants, she had taken place upon his lap and had the boy blushing madly from whispered word. She would occasionally wiggle into him further, placing hand upon his chest and batting her eyes. At least your cousin would find some degree of happiness tonight. Though it brought thoughts to your own, you had asked Talia to have a bath made when you returned to your chambers that night, an instruction she took well, waiting for you beside it nude form yet again. She helped you disrober, taking her time with your clothing and given your weary body attentions it dearly needing, taking the liberty to wash you to little protest, leading to further attentions and eventually you catching her for a moment and taking her to whittle away the rest of the day's energy. Upon the morning you finally bid the young lady off, her curious look spoke of disappointment but an understanding, she was afterall a whore. Taken as a bedwarmer for a trip, but little else. She left with her few things and far more coin than before and you relaxed into soft quiet and alone. For a moment you missed her warmth beside you but shooed the thoughts away.

NOPE
>>
Benjin called upon you later, meeting you in his library, “My Lord. I do believe our business in King’s Landing is concluded,” he begins and pushing a scroll of parchment your way, “Please do sign this, one of the Pentoshi’s messengers delivered it this morning. I must say my Lord I am impressed. It is a far more favorable debt to be repaid.”

“Thank you Benjin” you respond as you flourish the ‘y’ of your last name, you did not see fit to telling the Maester he should have more faith in your plans, he only offered honest counsel. Dontos would have taken it, but not you. You were the Lord of the House, and you would take the bold moves necessary.

“My Lord there is a small bit of news however,” he continues salting your signature and wrapping it before handing you another that you sign much the same, “Ser Victor’s squire, Lorry was it? Was upon the docks this morning, it would seem the King Crab has yet to leave port.”

And so he stayed, was it cowardice that kept him from returning to Claw Isle? Did Ser Wilson lose his nerve? Or perhaps he thought you return to him beggar’s bowl in hand. You considered for a moment, chewing on a piece of toasted bread with blackberry jam, you were not sure of his motives, they were a complete mystery.

“My Lord. I thought only to inform you,” Benjin says, “I would leave the man be. He has chosen his path, as have you, let us collect the Household and leave for Steadhold.”

>Take Benjin’s counsel, leave Ser Wilson Celtigar
>Allow your curiosity to get the better of you find what the man is up to

The last thing thing we need to our name is more controversy
>>
>>42588235
I can only assume that Lord Celtigar is gonna be pissed at his son for ruining his plans.
>>
For a moment you consider seeking him out, your wroth quelled by days of happier fortunate. Yet in truth you know it may not remain as such, and you did not need your name attached to a larger controversy then a minor tavern brawl. The Hand’s voice rung in your head, Benjin’s did now. You think better of it, ignore your impulse and nod stiffly to the Maester that breathes a sigh of relief, “Honest counsel Benjin. Thank you. Yes, we will return home to Steadhold. I will give word. Should I send someone to help you?”

“Solhas, if you would my Lord. He is of delicate hand for a man of his size. And I appreciate his words, few as they are,” the Maester responds bundling up the contracts and placing golden wax upon them, stamping them with your courser before rushing you off.

The morning breaks into a hurried motion of readying, though many suspected you would be leaving today quite a few had not entirely prepared. As you finish your packings you find a small token of red lace buried in your clothing, another to the collection you think and shake your head, pushing the hair back into place as it falls. The trip was not as intended, yet you felt successful. Meeting again your Uncle, Lord Winston Hayford and pulling a great trade bargain from him, while gaining the services of your cousin Ser Wesley. You made your debt something within the realm of reality, and felt glader for it. Rid yourself of the dead’s clothing, and finding soft warmth in their place. And fiery passion another. Gained a few men of worth, the chef had taken a liking to you and offered services, your hall would be grateful for it. Ser Duncan a seasoned man and his squire Dominic. You brought again prestige to your Household with the swearing of swords. Now you only need collect more. And yet you gained odd things, an audience with the Hand of the King and sage advice from Lord Jon Arryn regarding many things, though in return you must bring home a mother and her newborn.
>>
Your stablehand packs the rest of your belongings where they belong and returns to you giving a deep bow, you throw him a gold dragon as you mount Goldsong and he looks overcome with joy. A good boy in truth, he would have a long standing place in your villa with such diligence you consider. Trotting to the front of the villa you find the Loyal Bows fully assembled, and a baggage train forming. The Sons in the process, with your Knights taking place among them. Counting heads of import you nod and begin your way from King’s Landing flanked by Ser Wesley and Illiad.

-A few days later-

Your return is far swifter than the trip to and you are lucky to avoid rain for most of the trip than a day. Finding yourself in Steadhold once more a calm settles in about you, the month was nearly over and you would need to attend to your House, and set into action any actions you may take. There was a great burden gone no longer stifling your advancement. Though for now you rested, enjoying the soft plush of you pillows. Mason had come to you with news of your prisoner, to be given in your monthly meeting tomorrow. Victus demanded your attention for the better part of the day, asking of your adventures and enjoying seeing his father once again. Dontos for his part remained calm, though he brooded as he often did, not fond of what had transpired without his being there, but was swiftly reminded of his want to stay in Steadhold.

Give me that sweet 4d6 for House Fortunes.

Also, you guys killed every challenge. And made out like some serious bandits at the end of this. Solid work everyone, I certainly hope this was an acceptable alternative to meeting with the Celtigars.

I'll allow it. We Boon now. Which as it happens is the best result.

I know it seems like I'm favoring you guys a hard bit, but I fuck you over with everything else. I feel like it even out.

A Boon is 1d6 to two resources or 1d3 to three. And yes I did up the gain from what the book dictates. This is how I play it with my real life group.

I'm going to assume no matter what, we're going to want Wealth. Any other suggestions?

I'd remind, 10 Lands is needed for a Hamlet to return the Outer Ring to its former status and bring more people home.

Increases in Population helps House Fortune rolls, you could use it to get your fields to maximum strength again.

And your Knights have all recommended sending a call out for more Knights. A unit of Hedge Knights (Trained Cavalry+Crusaders) is of 10 Power, while a unit of Noble Knights and those of renown (Veteran Calvary+Crusaders) is of 12.

Other ideas? All you guys. Go crazy.

Alright, looking it over. I'm assuming:

-7 for Illiad's brother.
-3 for Rare Bloodline.

>>42590143
>or we might even need to raise a dowry if we ever decide to get married
A dowry is given to a man so that he can care for his new expensive property in a manner befitting its station.

So unless we plan to go the "female-identifying medieval lord" route, we won't need a dowry.

You aren't entering, that is a part of the Debt Drawback, it simply isn't feasible for you to put up the one for plate right now without drawing from House Resources. Yes in crunch terms it isn't but I needed to enforce the Drawback somehow.

The Melee and Archery contest are wide open, but I'm disallowing the Joust right now, for this Tourney.

>>42590716
Other then some Green Raiders and a tavern fight. Yeah pretty much nothing, essentially you would be getting back into your training regime. Training with the Sons, your Knights, and Dontos.

>>42590797
All I wanted was one failure but nooooo. You have to use your skills to their maximum potential and beat everything. Though to be fair, Brynden is good when it comes to contracts, note how he faltered against Jon Arryn.

Anyway, I suppose I'll put it to a vote:

We need to get someone in the joust one one of our horses then. Show Westeros that House Malroy has life in it yet!

Wat.

Yeah that isn't how it works. This is a hard crunch improvement, and if you guys sit on it now, you may not see the finished result in time for the Tourney.

Ser Wesley and Mason both intend upon competing. Dontos would but he still isn't sure of his arm.

I don't doubt you'll be bringing some of your best as well. There will be people no doubt thrilled to see your House there and would pay out the nose for one of your Horses, even if it isn't a Tourney Horse.

>You aren't entering, that is a part of the Debt Drawback, it simply isn't feasible for you to put up the one for plate right now without drawing from House Resources

yes but doing so would put us at the forefront of the crownland houses in terms of prestiege being one of the first to have thrown off the oppressive debt & being able to put up for a tourney would do wonders for our name & perhaps make the Redward Barstard blanche at the fact we're doing so well despite his efforts
>>
Alright some Archery, which is actually called Marksmanship, I'm just losing my mind, is the winner. Since no one in your Household is better than you with a bow Solhas and Barq Zos both tie, you'll need to do this the hard way.

Give me a 1d6+5 for weeks of training. I'll take the middle roll of the first three.

Celtigar have already paid his debt and no doubt he'll send one of his knights to the joust

>prestiege being one of the first to have thrown off the oppressive deb

I don't think trading one debt for another is the same thing as getting rid of your debt entirely.

Besides man Houses, i.e. Celtigar, Velaryon, a few others, have already paid their debts off entirely. You're just another in a long list of names in that regard.

So as I said. It's a hard no. I'm not budging on this, I already gave into the refinancing, though that ended up being one of my favorites to write. I'm standing firm on this one.

7 weeks it is then. Almost two months you'll have your gain right before the Tourney, how lucky.

And with that... I believe that's it. Nothing more of note to work with. And I don't have anymore material prepared. As I said, this was going to be a short thread. But it extended a bit longer than I thought. I really went to town on the Jon Arryn and Noraro meetings, I don't ever intend to be that long winded, I just I don't know got really into the scenes.

End Chapter VII

Thank you all for playing today. Even though it was impromptu. Next thread will now be on Thursday 24, September at 2PM EST. Unless I get that writing bug again tomorrow after work. I'll be around to answer questions if they occur. Otherwise, goodnight everyone.

Oh and one last thing, I promised a Homebrewed unit for Illion's crossbows. This is something I use in my actual game, and we find it to be within acceptable range of power. So here's a future spoiler.

Arbalesters (Myrish Crossbowmen)

Power Cost: 5
Discipline Modifier: -3 in Fortified Position, +3 in the field
Key Abilities: Agility, Awareness, Marksmanship

Starting Equipment/Upgraded Equipment:
Armor Rating: 4/6
Armor Penalty: -2/-3
Bulk: 1/2
Fighting Damage: Athletics -1/Athletics
Marksmanship Damage: Agility +3 Long Range/Agility +4 Long Range

Special Rules: Arbalesters may only fire once per round.

Arbalesters come in units of 50, and take twice as long to raise relative to their trained (i.e. Trained Arbalesters, 2d3 Months). Requires the Aristan Personage Holder (Myrish Weaponsmith) to build, alternatively the Mercenary purchasing rules are used in conjunction with the normal cost (i.e. Trained Arbalesters, -8 Power, -3 Wealth).
>>
>>42591326
See you later.

>>42591477
Hmm, guess they'll be a special unit and not a core unit
>>
>>42591477
We are gonna fuck shit up on the field with them
>>
>>42591555
That's basically their purpose, much like horse archers and mounted knights they are your special forces.

>>42591578
Actually they are at their best at home. The bonuses they get to defense from a Castle holding are fucking insane and their tough to crack to begin with. One of my players held off I think 4 times the amount of enemy soldiers with just one unit. It was hysterical. Though yes, they are great in the field as well, so long as they are protected.
>>
>>42591703
This is just so encouraging.
>>
>>42591477
>>42591703
So they can fuck shit up against heavy Infantry? (eg. man at arms/Knights)

Redward is so fucked if he tries to siege us
>>
>>42592114
Like no fucking other. It's why they are limited in some regards, because damn do they tear up the heavy units. Crossbows have that stigma of being a cowards weapon and many Lords prefer the glory of the charge. But as Old Griff noted, if you had to chose Archers or Knights? Archers every damn time.

>>42591997
It's another one of those things where I fuck you guys over enough, so why not throw a bone.

Plus I promised this would be more story driven, we go through brief moments of crunch. But the history of the characters and their side stories bring a lot to the table. Illiad's just happens to be easy to do now. Though I had not intended upon the stupid amount of wealth gain to make it so easy. Suppose telling Wilson to fuck off worked out in the end.

In general I hadn't expected things to go so well. What was a crippling debt is now lesser. The House is gaining steam at a ridiculous pace. You guys are actually ridiculously good negotiators. We can only hope it continues into the Tourney. Winning a Glory point has some serious upside.
>>
>>42592331
You mean we actually don't seem stupidly weak in front of all the other Houses? I'm actually really surprised we have bounced back so well

Oh god my sides.
>>
>>42592501
To the other Houses of the Crownlands gossip about Brynden returning spread relatively quickly. A lot of the other Lords thought the Malroys were as good as extinct like the Targaryens. But now rumors are spreading of your House on the upswing at a ridiculous pace, as if the debt and limitations on your might meant nothing. Your taking of the northern forest caught the Langwards of guard and Royce is a mixture of pissed off by your presence and confused. The big time Houses may still think you out, but ones on your level are taking notice.

If you should win an event at the Tourney your House will be launched into its former place. That being a principle house of the Crown. Though it will do little for your reputation with the loyalist Houses. Risk reward I would suppose.

>>42592607
Glad someone enjoyed that. I was having so much fun working Noraro. To think I almost didn't allow it.
>>
>>42592740
>To think I almost didn't allow it.

Good thing you didn't.
>>
>>42590163

Understandable.

Though I would love the idea of Brynden Malroy and William Bordain meeting in the future at some point.

That'd be a great conversation.
>>
>>42592740
hmm prehaps we could owe our upswing to our years working as a sellsword...
>>
>>42591326
>But it extended a bit longer than I thought. I really went to town on the Jon Arryn and Noraro meetings, I don't ever intend to be that long winded, I just I don't know got really into the scenes.

I loved it, personally.
>>
>>42592331
>The House is gaining steam at a ridiculous pace.
We're not a powerhouse like Karban or Bordain, yet.
>>
>>42593225

But he's definitely getting close.
>>
>>42592740
>Though it will do little for your reputation with the loyalist Houses.
What would help our reputation with the Targ old guard?
>>
>>42593041
Good thing that, for now he's in brooding mode in Morderengrad.
Though remember that last thread he created his own mercenary company. What if he manage to gets support from the 2nd Sons.
What if Brynden's army gets Bordain grade weapons for a discount.

Though, a loyalist Lord and the guy that killed Rhaenys making an alliance, the amount of salt that would be produced in Westeros would be impressive.
>>
>>42593525

I kinda want Page and The Father to discuss a possible crossover for either quest.

Or at the very least to write up some stuff and post it in a pastebin. Or they both run a non-canon thread where the two lords meet.
>>
>>42593225
well to be fair we got royally rekt by Robert's rebellion
