Oh hey look it’s this thing again. School has started up again which is the main reason that I’m not as reliable as I was. Hopefully I can get something of a schedule running again but I can’t promise anything. As for everything else, the pastebins are probably out of date, I need to find out how much money you have and we’re probably going to have a few more threads of character development because most of MMS still has about one thing they like to do and maybe one more defining characteristic and Billy is still as responsive as a slightly intelligent teletype. But hey, hopefully we’ll have fun!

>Fate Point: 2
>Money: $565
>Equipment Carried: Tier 2 Assault Rifle. Tier 2 Armor (+4 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo: 3. Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier. (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Tier 2 Rucksack. (Carry Capacity 6.) Quality Lighter. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Your name is William and though a lot of people call you Billy, you find that the memory of being William is strong so you mostly refer to yourself like that even if it is only in private. It’s been three days since Morrigan agreed to go with Koko to New York City, which is apparently all the way to the east and up against the ocean. You don’t think you’ve ever seen the ocean and if you have you don’t remember. Mary told you that it was made up of water that you couldn’t drink because it was too salty and filled with a bunch of creatures, some of which you could eat.
>>
>>42563060
That’s for later though, as currently you’re waiting for the last convoy of the year from Fort Riley to finish loading and take the people and goods that are being transported to Kansas City, which is apparently as far west as trains normally run. Something about “unstable borders” and bandits, you’re not quite clear on the first but bandits you understand.

As you look around you can see some of the Army members from Fort Riley loading up, they apparently got to go home as the convoy had brought replacements for them. You didn’t anyone you really knew among them, but Sergeant Jones had only gotten there when you did and they are apparently on a yearlong tour. As the last of the farmers finish loading you hear a whistle and turn towards the four trucks that Koko managed to acquire for her trip. Koko’s people were in the front and rear trucks, while MMS had gotten the middle two. You were in the…

You were in the first truck with Morrigan, Cath and Sarah. Koko’s trucks were at the end of the column, so she had purposefully put more of her people in last truck in case you were attacked. It wasn’t likely since it was a military convoy and heavily guarded, but apparently there had been an upswing lately so everyone wanted to be sure. The trucks were for the most part open topped, so as you climbed into the back you could still look about.

Sarah was driving, as she was the person least likely to be needed in the event of an attack. You Cath and Morrigan were all in position in the back, Cath giving you a hand up even as Morrigan sat near the front and looked over the roof.

“Come on Billy,” said Morrigan as she glanced back at you climbing up, “Don’t want to leave you behind in Fort Riley all by yourself, they wouldn’t know what to do with you.”

You pause, considering the thought. “Doc and Doc Jones might,” you say in return, settling onto a case of something and checking your weapon again just to be sure.

“You’d probably be perfectly happy with them too wouldn’t you,” says Morrigan, “Reading all those books and eating Doc’s cooking every day. Wouldn’t even miss us.”

You stop and think again, as the trucks all send up black plumes of smoke as their engines roar to life. As you start to pull out you rock a little bit and have to speak up so Morrigan could hear you.

“I’d miss you,” you reply, drawing a smile from Morrigan and a small grin from Cath.

“You’re not half bad Billy, have I ever told you that?” Morrigan asks as she punches your shoulder.
>>
>>42563624
You just nod in response to her statement, the three of you starting to keep watch as you pull away from Fort Riley. It takes a while for Fort Riley to disappear behind you, but since you’re mostly using the old roads between it and Kansas City it doesn’t take too long. The drive is supposed to be roughly three hours or so depending on if you get stopped for some reason.

It only takes about fifteen minutes for Morrigan to start tapping her foot and fidgeting a bit, but Cath seems perfectly fine looking out over the slightly cold prairie for anything that might want to stop you. Looking out over your side of the convoy you don’t see anything, but a glance back at the truck behind you gets you a wave from all three of the girls in it, though Bellona’s is of course the most visible.

After another fifteen minutes’ drive you find yourself getting a tad bit restless, as bouncing up and down while not having to pay attention to your horse is a bit boring, even if you are on lookout.

You decide to…
>Talk to Morrigan.
>Talk to Cath.
>Talk to both of them.
>Focus, this isn’t that bad.

(Please note that while generic responses will work, this is an opportunity to ask questions you feel need answered. If you do pick the “Both” option, questions that might otherwise get straight answers may get modified ones or not answered at all depending on the level of awkwardness/personal meaning.)

Also, this is me heading out, so don't expect responses for a bit.

You decide that you should talk to Morrigan, as it’s both a bit windy as you drive and Cath doesn’t talk very loudly so you aren’t sure if you can carry on a conversation with her. Morrigan also seems to be a bit bored like you are, so it might help a bit with that.

Turning a little bit you can see that Morrigan is still tapping her foot on the bed and fingers on the top of the roof as she looks forwards, occasionally getting a face full of exhaust from one of the trucks in front of you. Taking a check of the area in front of you, you decide it’s alright to talk.

“Morrigan?” you ask her.

“Yeah Billy?” she calls back, seemingly grateful to have something to do though she doesn’t move her head that much.

“How do you not be bored?” you say.

This causes Morrigan to glance back at you for a bit before she turns forwards again.

“Normally I smoke,” she says, her fingers tapping increasing a little at the mention of it, “But since Koko has munitions on board I can’t smoke, which sucks.” She pauses for a minute. “Other than that… well you can sleep or talk to people. This is an army convoy so it probably falls under the old saying about hurry up and wait. In this case it just means we get to be on guard while we are bored. Boredom is good sometimes Will, it means you aren’t getting shot at.” Morrigan continues to tap, “Even if it does suck sometimes.”
>>
>>42565673
You nod, not feeling quite as bad as before about the boredom. It’s a good way to look at it, you could be getting shot at or beaten or any number of other unpleasant things. Instead you’re just bored. You start to go over a few things in your mind, mostly stuff Doc Smith taught you, but also anything else that comes to mind. Eventually you drift over to New York, wondering what it’s like besides the big green lady statue.

“Morrigan?” you ask again, “What’s New York like?”

Morrigan stops her tapping for a moment, then resumes. “New York is big,” she finally says, “really big. Even the ruins are big. It doesn’t have nearly as many people as it did before, but it’s still the biggest city in America. The buildings are taller than anything you’ve probably ever seen, there are so many buildings you could drop Fort Riley inside and they probably wouldn’t notice.” Morrigan stops and glance back at you again. “The people there probably aren’t going to be as polite as the ones in Fort Riley, so if somebody says something to you try not to get me or Mary to deal with them ok?”

“Ok,” you say even as a few flurries of snow start to fall from the dark sky. Glancing up you remember that you wanted to ask Morrigan about her early statement that you shouldn’t sleep with anyone until you ask her.

“Morrigan?” you ask again, this time waiting until she responds.

“What Billy?” she says, sounding a bit annoyed but you’re pretty sure it’s not at you, at least not directly at you.

“It’s cold now,” you say, a flurry landing on your nose, “Is it ok to sleep with people if we’re both cold?”

Morrigan’s fingers suddenly stop tapping again, this time staying that way. You turn back to look at her and see her frozen on top of the truck. Out of the corner of your eye you see Cath looking too, one of her eyebrows raised.

“Morrigan?” you ask again.

“Damnit Billy,” you hear her say almost at a mutter, “It… it’s complicated alright? I…” she stops, turning to look at you. “Why do you want to know Billy?” she asks you in return, “I said ask me if you wanted to, not if somebody put it in your head.”

You stop and think about your answer.

It really doesn’t take you that long to give her an answer, seeing as how most of your wants and needs are pretty simple. Don’t go hungry, don’t get beaten, make people happy by helping and don’t be cold. It is of course this last one that’s your primary motivator at the moment.

“It’s cold,” you say, lifting you hand up to the general direction of the grey sky and the flurries falling from it, “I don’t like to be cold.” You turn to look at her again, “You said to ask before I did it and you might not be there to ask if I’m cold.”

Morrigan seems to soften a little bit at your answer, blowing air out of her mouth and turning back forwards on the truck. “Alright Billy,” she finally says, “I can’t argue with that. If you feel like you want to and only then, I don’t see a problem with it.” She stops and turns to point her finger at you. “But if they start to do something you don’t like you tell them to stop, make them stop alright?”

You nod to her. “Ok,” you say, unsure as to what exactly sleeping could involve that you wouldn’t like, but Morrigan said there was, so there must be something.

Morrigan sighs again and then nods. “Thanks Billy,” she says, turning back forwards again, “I just… don’t want anything weird to happen to you.”

You nod, giving another glance to Cath who seems to have a thoughtful look on her face. Eventually everyone turns back to their posts, the sound of the trucks engines the only real noise in the quiet day.
>>
>>42566436
Eventually you stop, roughly halfway to your destination as one of the trucks blows a tire and it needs to be changed. Everyone hops out of their vehicles and forms a perimeter, various people taking the time for a quick bathroom break amongst what little privacy they can find. As you stand watch next to Morrigan Mary comes up, giving you a grin.

“Anything exciting up in truck one?” she asks.

“Just Will being a chatterbox,” says Morrigan, taking the time to get in a quick smoke.

Mary turns to look at you, “Oh really? Anything you want to ask the rest of us?” she asks.

As she does you hear shouts and the trucks start up, meaning it’s time to go again. A quick glance to Morrigan only gets you a shrug, so you’ll have to make the decision yourself.

You pretty easily decide that a change of position to the second truck wouldn’t be out of place, so you nod and follow Mary towards it. You climb in the back just like before, but Mary waves you forwards near the cab so she can still yell and hear you. Nem and Bellona both give you smiles as you climb in, which you return with a nod.

Taking the position behind Mary you find that the ride is much the same as it was when you were in the other truck, though Bellona seems to give you a glance every now and then and Nem is nearly bouncing on her toes. Mary seems to focus on driving for the first couple minutes, but eventually she finds a steady pace as the convoy forges onwards through what is starting to become an actual snowstorm, though it isn’t a bad one by any means.

“So what were you talking about with Morrigan?” Mary calls out to you through the window, the steady drone of the trucks engine allowing better conversation than when shifting gears repeatedly is necessary.

“Boredom,” you reply with first, “New York and staying warm.”

“Sounds like some big conversations for you,” Mary says back, though it is clear it’s a bit awkward for her to talk to you.

“Yeah,” you reply.

“Learn anything interesting?”

“New York is big, boredom is good and staying warm with people is fine.”

You see Mary glance at you out of one of the mirrors.

“Oh is it now?” she says, “Good to hear, wouldn’t want to get cold on the trip.”
>>
>>42567694
You shake your head in agreement, though once you’re done you can’t say for sure if Mary saw it or not. She probably understands anyway, Mary’s like that. You try to focus on looking out for a while and are eventually interrupted by Bellona calling out to you.

“Will,” she asks, mostly looking at you though you can tell that she’s still paying a bit of attention to being on guard, “What exactly were you saying earlier about staying warm?”

Dunno.

I try not to guess what you'll hivemind on, because when I try to do it you'll surprise me.

Probably expected a bit more "Hue Hue" votes.

Don't worry Guide, we'll give you huehuehue soon enough.

Well I mean it's not rare for people to not be aware of Hues issues in the Snek quest.

That's sort of a niche group of questers.

You look up at Bellona as she approaches, and then shrug. “It’s cold,” you say to her, “But I like to stay warm. Morrigan said it was ok to stay warm with people as long as they didn’t do weird things.” You of course aren’t exactly sure what said weird things are, but that’s probably not a big deal.

Bellona seems to pause as you speak, one of the corners of her mouth quirking again. “Just as long as they don’t do anything weird huh?” she says, “Well I guess that’s good to know.” She looks about, the light snow still falling, though not much is sticking to the ground, “I may take you up on that sometime if you don’t mind, I get cold pretty easily.”

You stop and think for a minute yourself. That makes sense, you shared a blanket with both Cath and Bellona before when it was a bit chilly. If it happened before they might want it to happen again. Plus Mary said she could help keep you warm and Morrigan had kinda sorta said she would if you wanted too. That probably meant that they got cold too.

You look and see Bellona give you a smile again. “Just keep me in mind if you get cold,” she says, sliding back down the truck bed a little bit.

You turn and look at Nem, whom you’ve never really heard complain about the weather one way or the other and she just gives you a big grin and a nod, so you turn back to watching the road. The rest of the trip is mostly quiet, though thre’s a bit of chatter between you Nem and Bellona, mostly about what you’re going to do in New York.

Bellona wants to go see the big green metal lady while apparently Nem mostly just wants to explore the city, which is supposedly home to all sorts of treasure that just got left behind when people left. Bellona countered with the fact that it’d been years and it was probably picked over already, but Nem just said she didn’t have a sense of “Adventure”. You mostly refrained from commenting, but did admit you wanted to see this ocean thing and all the tall buildings.

Eventually you start to see signs of people around the road, a few small farms out in the distance and such. By the time you’re getting close to your destination you see more along with a patrol of soldiers who all wave at you. As you approach your destination proper you see lots of houses, a lot more than there were at Fort Riley. Looking around you can’t quite believe that New York can be bigger, as you’ve never seen so many. Off in the distance you can even see a few really tall buildings.

Nem notices your wide eyes and sidles up next to you. “Never seen a city before?” she asks you.

Yes its finally back! For how much longer will it run tonight though?
>>
>>42568948
You shake your head no.

“Well, don’t take this the wrong way, but this place is small compared to where I grew up,” she says, patting you on the back, “And New York is bigger.”

“Really?” you ask as the convoy finally pulls up next to where you’re going to hop off, a place filled with more trucks and lots of people.

“Really,” says Nem as she grabs her SMG and prepares to hop off the truck, “There’s a lot for you to see in this world Will, lots to learn.” She smiles, “So don’t go thinking you know everything yet.”

You nod, hopping off the truck after Nem as Morrigan calls for everyone to gather round.

“Alright,” she says once everybody is gathered, “We don’t have a lot to do at the moment since Koko is handling the loading and they’ve got people trained to do it. But we are headed out shortly, so I want all of our gear packed and on the train by the time it’s ready to go. We’ve apparently got two sleeper cars for the seven of us near the back and Koko’s stuff, so we’ll figure out who’s sleeping where when we get settled. Let’s go people!”

As Morrigan starts to lead the way, you finally get a decent look at what you’ll be taking to New York. It’s big and metal and steaming, but you think that you might want to poke around with it. Nem was right, you’ve still got a lot to learn.

>>42568963
About thirty seconds unfortunately.

That's it for tonight guys, sorry for all the delays and crap but I've gotten in a decent bit of writing tonight and I have to be up for school and doctors appointment and stuff.

I hope you enjoyed the things that happened and will continue to read as we go forwards on our journey.
Also, finally answering this question.

>>42563471
Honestly, probably not. I's too big, too bloated and unless I just massively upped the danger level John is too overpowered to be scared of anything. I might run a end of the world battle thread sometime since I had that slightly planned out, but normal runs are unlikely at best.

If I ever do something like it again, which I've considered, it'll more than likely be a reboot with new characters, though probably the same fun tone, not as much raw world bending ability and a bit less giant ass badguys from nowhere.

Q&A like normal and again, sorry for the shortish run time.

It's good to see you back.

Is there any outlook for a regular schedule or is it still up in the air?

>but normal runs are unlikely at best.
Not even a small one that concludes our beach episode? Honestly, just finishing up that little segment should give a lot more room for a proper ending.

Thanks for the run Guide, good to see you back.

As for HPQ, I thought it was decided to have random adventures/char explorations or w/e when ever you felt like running it. Either way I'm fine with what you decide.
>>
Agh I was too late! Ah well it's nice to see you again Guide! Bug I gotta ask, will there be more regular threads from now on?
>>
>>42569105
Steam train, probably eastern European IRL, but I was having trouble finding pictures of ones that were armored but not completely bristling with guns.

>>42569133
Depends on what you consider lewd.

>>42569138
Thanks for reading.

>>42569164
Outlook on a regular schedule is up in the air, much as I hate it. I am literally in my last semester of college, so I really need to not fail any classes.

If there was demand I might do a run or two, but it'd be largely narrative based since with 15 girls I can't just let anon choose everything like I did. Plus, we were in the middle of tiny John, so the beach is mostly done.

>>42569193
Not particularly, but if I can get a steady sleep schedule going and buckle down on classes maybe.

>>42569202
Again, that involves me wanting to run it. Seeing as how Mercs is my current active quest and I can't even regularly schedule it, HPQ is far from my mind most of the time.

>>42569233
Sorry man, but it's good to be appreciated. Like I said above, I'll try to get more regular but I can't promise anything.
>>
>>42569094
>No Karasuba

Sorry Guide but if you reboot it without her it's shit.
>>
>>42569094
Thanks for running Guide. Even if you can't run often, it's still enjoyable when you do.

I certainly am sad about HPQ, but I unders what you're saying on it. And if you do indeed do a HPQ v2, I'll certianly be there.

I will miss the Tatsuko cuddles though... She'll always be my favorite.
>>
>>42569288
Thanks for running, man.

If you do opt to reboot HPQ, I'd be more than up for playing it.

And maybe we could get Rias that time around, eh? Eeeeeeh~?
>>
>>42569377
>>42569402
>>42569439

Honestly, if I tried to just straight up reboot HPQ, I feel there would be more issues than if I started over.

I know who the favorite three or four were, Kaname, Karasuba, Tatsuko and maybe Chris, but who gets the last spot? How do I fit them into the plot? Do I just ditch them? Etc. etc.

So if I restarted, it'd be a clean slate with new girls and a new protag.

I mean, I'm not a complete anime nerd but there are plenty of awesome girls still out there, even if Karasuba and Cuddlebug will always have a place in my heart.

>>42569439
Maybe, maybe. Though Mercs needs to be done before I seriously consider running it. I don't want to be the Guide who always quits halfway through.
>>
>>42569377
Karasuba is best waifu, you have good taste.
>>
>>42569488
>>42569377
You guys don't know how completely surprised I was when the thread unanimously decided the scary gym teacher would be a waifu.

I'm glad you did though.
>>
>>42569439
Honestly, I liked how, for the most part, the girls of HPQ weren't the main girl(s) of their respective series. Those side characters need love too, afterall.

>>42569479
And if I had a request, it be for Mizore.
>>
>>42569521
The scary gym teacher is always best waifu.
>>
>>42569521
That's the thing with /tg/. If you give them the ability to throw themselves headfirst into a vat of acid without any serious consequences, they'll do it. Why? Because they could. The fact they got a waifu out of it was a bonus.
>>
>>42569521
All i ask is that if you do a redo let Karasuba in there and let us have the option to waifu her.
>>
>>42569521
She was best girl with personality.

I know for me, Kaname was always my #1. Heh, I was the one who proclaimed her John's 'Main Girl' when she turned out to be the first other sentient person we met.

Chris was definitely my #2, though. I always liked how you presented her, and I liked how she became the Tactician of the group. It gave her a good dynamic that didn't get explored much in her source material.

Well, maybe not leave her in if all other characters were swapped. Maybe another violence fetishist that could recieve a heart of gold.

Revy?

>>42569581
>>42569648
The fights between you and her, as well as her whole sequence in getting her back were fun to write and I'm glad I did.

>>42569608
Though I might consider it, I don't want to start reusing characters too much.

>>42569566
Again, we'll see if it ever happens.

>>42569664

I enjoyed writing Kaname as the ground for the group and Chris whenever she got a chance to shine.

Plus you know, Kaname fixed the Grail.

Whoop.
>>
>>42569723
FUCK YES!
>>
>>42569723
thats a very dangerous game we would play

im with you 100%
>>
>>42569732
That's another reason why we liked everyone. They were a bunch of bad-asses.
>>
I still think you could take HPQ out for an occasional one-shot to resolve side quests like meeting Chris' dad if you need to take a break from Merc 2030. The plot would be simpler and you'd be able to focus on a smaller number of characters.
>>
>>42569841
>like meeting Chris' dad
we did that already
>>
>>42569288
Thanks for the run, guide. I missed it completely, but I appreciated it none the less..
