The group seems to stab at your sensei with a spear, and in an instant, he's off the ground.

A whirlwind of kicks breaks out from the man as he spins on his back like a breakdancer. The men and women of the cult are all knocked backwards by whips of blue flame, and your sensei jumps back up to his feet and starts to flow through each opponent like water. You can see the flashes of chakra from here, and you start to understand that he's increasing the range and power of his blows with Ninjutsu. That combined with being drunk is making for quite a lightshow.

Then, you hear one of the cultists yell. "It's too much! Everyone, attack! Save our brother!"

You turn towards the forest, and see a grown man wielding an ax rushing towards you. All around you is yelling, apparently an ambush had been waiting along this road. You don't know how many enemies there are. What do you do?

Your immediate reaction is to reach within your weapon pouch, and launch a handful of senbon into the man's foot. He's nailed into place suddenly, looking down with confusion. You notice that he seems to be more surprised by the fact that he can't move, than that he's been wounded.

"What!? Stupid punk! I-"

Before he can finish what he's saying, Kichiro leaps in from his position and unleashes a thunderous right hook. The boy is strong for his age, and he put his entire body into the leaping blow. The sound of flesh on flesh makes a loud smack, even through the combat in the distance. The axe-wielding man falls to his knees, unconscious.

When Kichiro lands, he draws a kunai and throws it behind him, into the throat of a sword wielding cultist who had been pursuing him. The cultist fell, and Kichiro looks over to Ai's opponent. She seems to have transformed into a wolf, and deftly dodges the blows of the club at the large man wields. She snaps forwards with her jaws and tears into his ankle, tripping him by raking her teeth across the bone and destroying his support in one smooth motion. Ai resumes her natural form, and the three of you look at each other and smile at your small victory. On the other end of the carriage, you can hear conflict come to a stop. Looking over at your sensei, you can still his blue flames raging. You're surprised the opponents haven't given up yet against him. Suddenly the sounds of conflict resume on the other side of the carriage, and when you turn to look, you see Mirai leaping down to her squad.

You start to pepper their faces with Senbon, and after a few tries you manage to disable them both. They're blinded by needles and stumbling about helplessly, and Kichiro and Ai both slice their heels. None of them can walk or fight, now. The fighting on the other end of the carriage has stopped as well, although the fighting in the distance has only intensified. You're unsure of it, but you can feel the earth shaking under your feet. When you look at where your sensei is fighting, you're shocked to see that a horde of the enemies is pushing down the path. Some of them are missing limbs or are severely damaged, and you're sure that a few are lacking jaws, tongue bouncing about wildly as they sprint. They're all wielding weapons, but judging by their movements you're sure they're not shinobi. Even then, a horde of twenty or so immortals is nothing to joke about.

Mirai's voice shouts a command. "Everyone, line up at the front of the carriage! Protect the drivers, protect the horses!"

The six Genin run up and form a line, each wielding a kunai in hand. You're on the rightmost position, with Ai to your left and Kichiro to hers. Then it's Himawari, Shinji, and Kayo. You notice Akuhiro down at her feet, fur bristling.

Mirai is standing just behind all of you. She points her finger out, and yells. "Hold the line! Hit them with everything you have! Jutsu, weapons, everything!!"

Quickly, you kneel down and start to tie your single explosive tag to a kunai. You know that now is the time for some brute force, and this is going to help split the enemy forces before they can even get close. You fling the weapon forward, the first of many. Ai and Himawari start to pepper their forces with their own weapons, and Kichiro and Shinji preform handseals.

Behind you Mirai has her arms crossed, and is observing. Your tag detonates after sticking into the chest of a center cultist, blowing him to pieces. Those around him are thrown onto their backs and disoriented, some of them surely having broken bones. The cultists on the outer edges keep rushing, although some of them get dropped by headshots or kneeshots from the female Genin.

Kichiro and Shinji both complete their handseals, and for the first time in the mission, Shinji speaks. "Kichiro! Use your jutsu, and then I'll use mine!" You look at him and see his clan's chakra bugs floating around him, and you know that he's preparing a powerful jutsu.

Your friend nods, and pulls back his shoulders and expands his chest as he inhales. On the exhale, a great fireball launches forward and tears down the path. It collides and explodes with a group of the cultists, covering them all in fire and sending many of them reeling, crashing against the ground with sickening thuds. You wince at the violence, although you know it's necessary for these opponents. Next, Shinji steps forward. He has both of his hands pointed towards the enemies, and bugs are flowing from the sleeves of his jacket in front of his hands. A massive ball of black insects is collecting, and everyone on your squad is looking on with shock.

The Genin on Mirai's squad are simply smiling, as is she. Shinji holds up the black ball, and yells the name of his technique. "Bug Bomb Jutsu!"

The mass flies forward with the collective speed of a thousand insects, barely able to hold itself in the air as it starts to come crashing down in an arc. It impacts the last group of cultists, and they fight in futility against the insects, swinging their weapons about and screaming in fear. You all know that they're being drained of their chakra. They'll be totally unable to move.

The insects spread out among the wounded, and finish them off as well. None of them are dead (Except for the unlucky few who are beyond recovery from your kunai and Kichiro's jutsu.)

Once the group in front of you drops, you can see your sensei walking back to you with a stumble. The sight behind him makes you sick, and you have to put your hand over your mouth to prevent yourself from heaving up lunch. Hanto's arms and legs are covered in blood, and there are broken bodies everywhere. Some of them are twitching just hardly.

You look over, and see that Mirai is furious. She marches over to Hanto, and slaps him. "What the Hell!? They're mutilated! These are kids here, Hanto, you can't just turn this into a graveyard!"

Your sensei, still drunk, shrugs. "They'll see it sooner or later anyways. They knew what they signed up for when they became shinobi."

She's clutching her fists tightly, and with exasperation, stomps back over to the Genin. Everyone except for you and Ai have looked away from the gory scene. You, more because you were paralyzed by fear. When you look over at Ai, you can see that she's blank as ever.

Himawari is covering her eyes with her hands, and Kayo is coddling Akahiro. Shinji seems indifferent, collecting his insects back into his body slowly.

Mirai approaches all of you, and speaks up. "Alright everyone..We have to move forward through these bodies. But I know how hard this must be to some of you, and I know that it's outright disgusting no matter what.."

Hanto passes, and she glares at him. The carriage drivers have been silent this whole time, and are white as ghosts. Mirai continues. "So I can preform a Genjutsu on you, if you wish. It'll make the road seem clear, as if nothing happened. There's no shame in not wishing to see violence. Everyone who wants the jutsu, please step forward."

The man seems totally uninterested, smirking. "Do you? Well, I'm honored that someone had sought to understand me in the first place."

He starts forward. "Alright everyone! Resume your positions! We're approaching the border of the Land of Lightning!"

The carriage starts forward, and everyone returns to their positions. You notice that Shinji never underwent the Genjutsu, and is the only Genin on his squad not to do so. The soil is soaked with blood, and you step over puddles of the warm, sick substance. The scent of death fills your nostrils, although when you look to the ground, the eyes of the mangled corpses still follow you. You know that they're still alive, the gift of immortality. They're experiencing the height of the love of Jashin. It wretches your stomach, and several times you stop walking and begin to heave.

A fist strikes your back as you bend over to do so, and you snap up. Looking back, you see Kichiro, with an angry face of concentration, shake his head. "It doesn't help. Keep walking."

You know that he's experiencing this just the same as you are, and you feel a bit of resolve stemming from the camaraderie of facing this horror. When you look at Ai, you feel another bit of resolve arrive.

She is completely unphased. You steel yourself, attempting to be like her, Hanto, and the others, and glide through the disgusting scene. Of course, you can't see Shinji, but you can hear Mirai speaking to him in a calm voice.

Soon after, you're all past the field of bodies, and you can see the border guards in the distance. The terrain around you has become noticeably rockier, and you're travelling uphill.

The carriage moves closer to a large set of stone gates. The entrance to the first country that you've ever been to, aside from the land of Fire. What do you do?

The guard scratches his face. "About that..The Jounin that was assigned to assist you couldn't make it. Apparently he had a more urgent matter to take care of, so, he sent one of his Genin."

Hanto crosses his arms. "You're serious? He sent a lone Genin to escort us through the land of Lightning? What happens if the prisoner breaks free?"

The guard smiles. "Well, surely you can handle it, sir. After all, you and Mirai are both Jounin, Elite Shinobi, right?"

Hanto's eyes narrow. "That's right. Well, let's see him then. I'd like to get on our way; if you can't tell by the blood it's been a long trip. The cult is active."

The guards look shocked. "Outside the land of Lightning? What were their numbers!?"

Hanto steps forward, frightening the other young man. "Dozens. As I'm sure you can understand, this is an urgent matter."

Atop the massive gate, a voice calls out. "Chill out!"

You look up, and the sun is blocking a short figure. He's wearing tan shorts, and his black Cloud headband is long and flowing. On his back is a spear with a blade like a small bolt of lightning. The group sets off after a moment's rest, and you're on your way to the Cloud village. Hanto and Yosuke walk at the front, while the rest of you walk in your usual formation, silent. You're all rather tired from the exertion of combat, as well as walking such a great distance in a single day. It's drawing close to the evening.

You look up, and see Mirai looking down at you. She's resting her head on her hand, and she waves when she catches your glance. You wave back, and she turns away. After a few seconds the young Jounin leaps down beside Hanto, and whispers to him. He turns to her. "What? I don't care, that sort of thing doesn't concern me. Do what you want."

Oddly enough, she claps her hands together and laughs, running over to your side of the group. "Alright guys! Ai, I want you to change places with Himawari. Kichiro, I want you to take the back with Kayo. Takeshi, stay where you are. We're going to change the formation a little bit, I think this will be more effective. Hehe.."

There's something odd about the way she's behaving. Either way, in a moment, everyone is rearranged. Up ahead Yosuke is eagerly trying to talk to Hanto, who seems uninterested. Or still drunk. In front of you is Himawari, who seems a bit nervous. What do you do?

You think back to the bodies of the cultists, and how you elected to see them as they were. You wonder what sort of Genjutsu that Himawari and Kayo were put under, and if they really didn't see or smell any of the mess. You sigh, and continue. "I know how you feel. It sure is scary, huh?"

Himawari looks at you in surprise. "But you didn't use the Genjutsu. I thought that your whole squad wasn't afraid of this sort of stuff..you guys seem tough."

Chuckling, you place your hands behind your head as you walk. "Nah! That's just Ai and Kichiro's attitude. They're big loners, but they're pretty nice once you get to know them. Me and Kichiro were scared out of our wits for sure, I think Ai is the only one who wasn't bothered. But hey, she's like, an example. Chin up! We're shinobi now, we have to act stronger."

She frowns, and turns her head back forward. You get the impression that she isn't feeling so confident. "I guess.."

You frown as well. "Hey, you graduated a year earlier than the rest of us. I know you're plenty strong already, so don't worry about proving yourself to me personally, or anything."

She turns and looks at you, giving a small smile despite the dark tone of the conversation. "Thanks, Takeshi. I appreciate it. The Land of Lightning sure is pretty, huh?"

You nod. "Sure is. I love the-"

Without warning, a hand launches out of the carriage, smashing through the wood. It's white, and stretches out to grab Himawari's throat and pull her back, slamming her against the carriage gasping for air.

You know that the man who's /supposed/ to be in the carriage has brown skin.

Something's really wrong.

The thing is Sakura had potential, just Kishimoto screwed it up. Especially since there were times that he just out and out forgot that about Sakura. And then Hinata gets a retroactive scene with Naruto in The Last movie to try and make the relationship make sense, and Sakura just gets 'Yeah she hooked up with Sasuke after all the shit he pulled.'

I understand you may be a fan of Hinata but you've got to admit, everything about her boils down to 4 things. She is pleasant, she is shy, she wants to get stronger, and she likes Naruto. And unlike Sakura we don't even get to see how Hinata gets stronger or who she trains under. She's just inexplicably stronger later on in the series.

We don't need to see the entirety of Hinata's work out regime to accept that she worked hard to become stronger. We saw her once or twice secretly practice out in the woods some time after the chunin exams and that should suffice.
There was also that whole love confession scene when she truly found her courge and protected Naruto from Pain, which really didn't go anywhere untill The Last.
