Previously, you found shelter with Tanni but when you decided it was time to leave things went very badly very quickly. You're a lot more valuable to her as bargaining chip than you are as an ally, after all.

The four of you stand clustered together in the middle of the atrium as Ishmin march in from every doorway. In front of you, Tanni takes a step back and places herself behind her advancing soldiers.
“I want both the girls and the alchemist alive. You can kill the other one, he’s not very important.”
You do your best to glare at her, still confused. She shrugs.
“Don’t be like that. We’ll have a nice long chat after you’re all firmly chained down. I think after that you’ll understand where I’m coming from.”

Your head swims. What does she want with you? Why now? There are four doorways leading out from the atrium and there are soldiers in each one. Behind you is the passage leading back into your rooms but that’s a dead-end, there’s nothing for you there. And in front of you is Tanni.
There’s no easy way out.

Oster is in front of you, his arm shielded out protectively over you and the princess. You can’t see Aashenpreet but you can feel her just behind you all the same. Hiss snarls beside you, her eyes fixed on the constrictor. If you don’t do anything it looks like she might make the decision for you soon enough.

> Run back to your rooms. It might be a dead-end but at least it’s a defensible position!

>She takes a step back as the two Ishmin flanking her draw their swords and advance. >Behind her, you can see even more.
The other four doors opening into the atrium slam open, armed Ishmin in each one.

She's either going to turn us in for the bounty or enslave us with her voice mindfuckery.

Well she said she doesn't need him and he doesn't really seem to be happy with his own life thus far.

>Weakening Brew and Explosive Concoction
>Run back to your rooms.

"Don't breathe!"
You toss the Weakening Cloud right at the feet of the advancing Ishmin, hoping to catch Tanni behind them as well. You can't tell if you're successful or not due to thick white smoke.
The soldiers coming in from the sides speed up at the sight, their hands out and ready. They won't use their swords on you, not yet anyway. They've been told to take most of you alive.

The four of you run back towards your rooms while you shake your explosive concoction, tossing it behind you to buy time. You know it kills at least one of them, probably more.

Oster kicks open the door to your room and runs inside.
"Here, we can hole up inside here! We can hold any number of men with the doorway as a chokepoint and we can use the window to escape."

"Fuck that," Hiss grouches. "Let's go right back out there! I'm going to kill her!"

"I agree with Oster," Aashenpreet says. "We just need to get out."

>Fortify up inside the room.
>Throw Snakebreaker down the hallway

You don't say anything and just get inside the room, Aashenpreet following you. Oster and Hiss stay outside, Oster clearly unwilling to leave her side.
"You too, Cennen?"
Hiss doesn't sound very happy.
"Well I'm not going off on my own!"

She reluctantly joins you inside the room, just as the Ishmin regroup from the explosive and come charging down the hallway.
"Get clear!"
You toss the Snakebreaker down the hall towards them as Oster jumps inside, slamming the door behind him as he does so.
The walls rattle with the force of the explosion, stone dust raining down on all of you.

Oster doesn't waste any time, moving to the closest window. He does his best to hack at the wooden shutters covering it while Aashenpreet joins him and starts prying it off with her bare hands.

>>
> Open the door and investigate what the Snakebreaker did out there.

"Hold on guys, I just need to check..."
You draw your sword and open the door, Hiss right behind you.
You notice the smell before anything else. The reek blows in as the door opens almost like it possesses a physical presence, the smell of blood and guts and bowels.

The hallway is painted in blood and viscera, pockmarked with chips of bone and steel and hundreds of little scale-shrapnel. It's like an abattoir.
Some seem to have lost bodily cohesion altogether but around them you can still see their comrades severed limbs and splattered guts. Empty metal husks leaking red from a hundred tiny puncture wounds.

You retch, feeling the inside of your stomach burn your throat and mouth. Hiss claps you on the back.
"Good job, Cennen. I knew you had it in you."

You hear a 'thwack' from somewhere down the smokey hallway and Hiss jerks back, a crossbow bolt protruding from her chest. Her scales cover her but they come a whole second too late as she takes the shot that could well have been meant for you before you had ducked down to vomit.
"Oh," she says and sits down.

Three more Ishmin charge down the hallway, one of them in the middle of reloading a crossbow. They move in strict formation, apparently unaffected by the gore they find themselves amongst.

>>
> Pull Hiss inside and shut the door.

Oh shit! Hiss looks more confused than anything else, her eyes glassy. You grab her and pull her inside as quickly as you can, slamming the door shut. You'd lock it but it only locks from the outside and you don't have the key.

"Your Highness!"
Oster races over as you search your bag for an Inferior Heal-all, pressing it to her lips and then unbuttoning her tunic to tend to the wound. Oster takes his shirt off and begins ripping it into makeshift bandages.
"We need to pull the arrow out," you pant. "Otherwise she's going to heal around it!"

Oster pulls the bolt out, resulting in a gush of blood while you do your best to bandage her. Hiss grits her teeth and says nothing.

The three Ishmin start to hammer at the door but Aashenpreet leans against it, keeping it shut until you can push the bed against it.

"We need to get out of here!," Oster bellows, picking up Hiss who groans in pain. He passes her to Aashenpreet.

>>
>Agreed, it's time to go for the window.
>There has to be an easier way to transport Hiss.

Hiss doesn't look particularly comfortable in Aashenpreet's arms and as you begin to think, you realize that taking her out the window like that might be asking for trouble.
"Hiss, I need you to change back!"

"I don't want to!"

"Please!"

Hiss dissolves, Aashenpreet struggling to keep hold of the black and red snake. You reapply the bandages as quickly as you can though you don't think you have any real idea how to bandage a snake. At least the wound is smaller now and in her natural form her protective scales are permanently applied.
You take her from Aashenpreet, the wounded snake wrapping itself around you. You gently place her into your pack as best you can. You can't be seen running around in public with a snake.

Oster is the first to climb through the window, hopping into the alleyway beyond. Aashenpreet follows, with you bringing up the rear.
But you may have spent too much time fussing over Hiss. As you're climbing out the window, the bed is finally shoved out of the way and the door bursts open. The Ishmin with the crossbow is out at the front, aiming directly at you!

You roll out of the window just in time, a bolt piercing the air just above you. But in order to dodge it you had to throw yourself out of the window way faster than you should have.

You hit your head against the ground and groan in pain, doing your best to shield your pack. You're seeing stars as Aashenpreet helps you to your feet.

You run from the alleyway together, still stranded in the temple district. The road is clear but you can hear the sound of stamping footsteps.
"Oh no," Aashenpreet moans. "She's going to mobilize her entire army. We can't run."

Sure. Here's the quote from an earlier thread:
"Drinking this inundates the drinker's body with venom, killing them instantly unless they are already venomous. And if they are already venomous it fills their body with their own venom, seeping it from the pores of their body and making it a property of their touch for a few hours.
If Hiss drank this she would become a walking embodiment of death, something that would kill the grass under their feet and instantly slay anyone with just a touch. Hell, even her breath would linger in the air and give a slow death to anyone who breathed the air where she once was, even hours later."

It can work for Cennen as well.

>You need to do this without them. Let them distract the Ishmin for you.

You pull Hiss out of your pack, passing her to Oster.
"Keep her safe. You're going to get scryed on sooner or later, I think but just do your best to keep them busy."

"Can do," Oster says, noticeably more chipper now that it's only you that's being left behind. But as he cradles Hiss, his face grows more somber.
"Seriously mate, you won't have any of us to back you up in there. If there's the first sign of trouble I want you to back out and run. Meet us down by the docks somewhere."

Aashenpreet sighs.
"Don't get yourself killed Cennen. I don't know what I'd tell Rock if she came back to that."

And with that, they're gone. It's just you now. You and your pack.

Girding yourself, you sidle back into the alleyway from whence you came. Thankfully it's empty. From there it's only the matter of a small climb to get back through the window you had just leapt from a few minutes ago.
None of them would expect you to just come back here, surely!

You pace through the room, doing your best to be as quiet as possible. You can't stay here, they might come back here at any moment. And outside the room...is the massacre corridor again. This time you keep your stomach in check.

You start to slowly pick your way down it, doing your best to avoid the corpses and the shredded meat. Once you get to the atrium you can find a safe spot and brew something up if you need to. Soulsight would be the most useful.

And then you hear a door creak open behind you. You turn around and it seems as if the whole world slows down, the doorway to Hiss' bedroom swinging open and an armored boot stepping through. An Ishmin?
Shit.
You don't even try to fight, not while you can still find a place to hide.

Roll a d100 to hide.

The Ishmin steps into view and looks down the length of the corridor, looking directly at you. And then he just keeps on walking to investigate the next room.

He looked at you but he didn't see you. And why would he? You're just one more corpse among many after all.
There hadn't been enough time to get back to your room. So instead you had dropped to the ground and hid yourself among the blood and the offal, an Ishmin corpse covering you. And you keep your mouth shut, even as the blood of men you killed seeps in through your clothes and nostrils, even as you accidentally slice a cut in your shoulder when you lie atop a piece of scale-shrapnel embedded in the floor.
Your blood joins theirs.

You go to move but the Ishmin is already back, patrolling the corridor. You just stay still, doing your best to be one of the many dead as he passes by. He doesn't seem to spot you, completely soaked and covered as you are.

And in time, he passes you.

You stay there for at least another five minutes or so, keeping yourself calm. And this isn't so bad really, it's just meat. You don't get used to the stench unfortunately.

And when you are sure he is gone for good you rise, a ghastly specter covered in blood and gore and smelling like shit. Your boots squelch as you walk, leaving bloody footprints. You're forced to take them off, abandoning them as you step out of the corridor so that you won't leave further prints.
You continue barefoot into the atrium. You're still dripping quite a bit however and there's not much you can do about that.

No, fuck that, you don't have enough time for any of that! Oster, Hiss and Aashenpreet could be getting into all sorts of trouble while they lead the Ishmin away. You can't afford to waste time!

However, you do step back and pick up your boots from where you left them. Shouldn't abandon good working boots like that.

With boots in hand and dripping madly, you run through the corridor that you remember Tanni retreating through. Now, where could she have gone?
"...find them! He'll be with them."

You recognize that voice and you duck around the corner as foot steps draw closer. It's a Quedeshi man, one that looks somewhat Kouri in nature dressed in a long brown robe. His eyes are covered by a ceremonial blindfold but he doesn't seem to have any problem seeing where he is going.
Beside him are two Ishmin, one of them cradling Tanni's limp form in their arms. For a moment you think she could be unconscious or even dead. But her eyes are open.
And they're heading your way.

> Hide and wait for them to pass. You don't want to fight more Ishmin right now. You need to find a better opportunity.

Right now they'll definitely see you once they pass the corner. There's no way to hide from that without retreating. But it WILL give you the element of surprise, you should be able to reach out before they even know you're there.

And if you can just get a grab on Tanni, you should be able to make the two Ishmin back down. It's a bit of a long-shot but you'll be damned if you're going to let this opportunity pass you by!

The seer is the first to pass, overlooking you completely with his magical sight. And then as the Ishmin steps into view, you pounce! You slam into them, grabbing Tanni around the chest and waist and doing your best to pry her free!

Fortunately the Ishmin wasn't holding onto her very tightly, mostly just providing her a comfortable resting place so you pull her free quite easily.
"What?"

"Gotcha!"
You fall to the ground as you pull her free, still holding onto her. She whips around and punches you in the face but she barely taps you. She can't even wriggle out of your grasp, she's been completely drained of her usual overpowering strength.

She turns bright green, covering herself in scales.
"He can't hurt me! So just get him! Take him down!"

The Ishmin draw their swords, confident in the knowledge that even if they strike her she won't be hurt.. You only have seconds left.

> Specify

Also make an Instability d100 roll since you got swept by the magical sight the seer was using in place of their real vision. Only the first roll counts.

>Wish

You need to buy some time so you push Tanni off of you, practically throwing her at the two Ishmin while you shout a wish.
"I wish you would do everything in your power to prevent any harm done to me or my friends!"

That should take care of it and indeed you hear Tanni cry out a moment later.
"Stop! Don't attack him!"

You try to stand up but stop when you feel something strange. There's something wriggling on your arm, no, INSIDE your arm. It's your brand. It's moving and growing, carving new paths through your skin!
And it hurts like hell.

It burrows through your shoulder and along the top of your chest, reaching serpentine feelers towards your throat...

>- Life's Blood: Can pluck out a half-digested soul from anyone you kill, provided you have immediately eaten some of their flesh. Souls can be devoured and stored.

You momentarily black out and the last thing you see is Tanni reaching out for you, one feeble hand touching another.

....

You wake with a start. You're lying in bed, one of the most comfortable beds you've ever known. It's so comfortable and so warm that you nearly fall back to sleep again. But you don't because you're not alone.
Tanni is sitting beside you, slitted eyes watching.
"Ah, you're awake."

There's a window behind her, one showing the night sky. But last you checked, it was early morning!
"Wha? What happened?"

"Your brand attempted to devour you and you passed out. Don't worry, I haven't left you side."

You feel yourself flush as you realize how selflessly she must have been taking care of you, even after all you've done to her. You don't deserve this and the shame only makes you love her more.
You don't even think about how the pain inflicted by the brand should only have incapacitated you for a few minutes at most.

You sigh. Now that you've put your thoughts together, you know these emotions aren't yours. She's planting them in your head. And yet even with that knowledge, there's nothing that can make you stop feeling what she wants you to feel.
"I wish...I wish that you would speak to me bluntly and honestly without any attempt to manipulation. In any way."

Tanni stops and is quiet for almost a minute. She slumps down, finally assuming a natural posture. She's still incredibly beautiful but now you can see that's just her manufactured body, the glamour now gone. When she speaks her voice is still rich and melodious but it is also somehow flat.
"The tea is drugged with more sleeping herbs identical to the ones I fed you earlier today. My plan is to keep you comatose until I can make you my slave forever, all without harming you."
Her expression doesn't change but she clearly isn't happy with this.

"Uh...where's my stuff then?"

"Your pack and supplies are locked away until I deem you domesticated enough to be permitted access to them once more."

Eeesh.
"Can I have them?"

"No. I can't harm you or allow you to come to harm but neither am I your slave. In fact, the situation is quite the opposite."
She reaches out and pushes you in the chest with one hand, her strength returned enough to send you toppling back onto the bed.
"And you're almost out of wishes. The moment you make your last one, I'll be locking you in here forever until I've tamed you."

Wish for her to travel up to the Compact House as fast as she can while walking on her hands.

Wish for her to immediately present herself sexually to the first thousand human males which she becomes aware of (which would exclude us because she was already aware of us before wishing).

Wish for her to drink a river.

Wish for her to hunt down an anaconda.

Wish for her to regurgitate all the soups she's consumed.

Once we get some downtime, we should make a bottle of that thought-sharing potion, have Hiss drink half, and then just put the other half in our pack for later use. That will let us keep up two-way communications without other snakes or spirits listening in.

Might want to think about buying a locket or amulet with a vial in it, so we can have a holdout potion for when our pack gets stolen.
>>
> "Why do you want us so badly!?"
> Threaten her with a really nasty third wish until she lets you go.

"Why the fuck do you want us so badly?"

She stares at you for a moment, completely blank-faced. And then she laughs, a totally genuine outburst of mirth. It's actually a little insulting to be honest.
"How can you NOT know? Oh Cennen, for your skill with a brew you're not exactly the most intellectually favored, are you?"

"Just answer the question."
You don't bother getting up, remaining on the bed while she paces around it.

"Don't you understand just what you did at the peak of Chau Devi? You. or well, not you specifically but your mistress, she broke part of the lynchpin of this very empire. There are so many people who want to worship her or eat her or kill her, mostly the last two. So you lot became immediately worth a lot more than you previously had. Perfect little playing pieces and bargaining chips, all of you. And while I must admit that I feel a certain amount of patronizing affection towards the princess and her cohort, one doesn't live very long if they put such temporal alliances before self-service."

"Oh. I sort of thought you wanted my alchemy."

She almost laughs again.
"I do, Cennen, I really do. But that's just a hobby of mine. You see, I am endlessly fascinated by the human Arts, as rare as they are. Most humans are chattel at best, brief little creatures without much charm but those magics can sometimes lift a human high. Almost to my level. So I love taking useful humans like you and bringing them right back down again, to break them and to make them mine. And then to use you however I see fit, to make me the potions I desire until you age and run out of life. But you're just a bonus compared to the princess, I'm afraid."

"Then why are you holding me specifically?"

Do we still have the Permanency potion effect active? Because if so we dodged a bullet earlier with the Hissbrew.
>chug brew

>>
>>42491464
Nope. It's not active.
>>
>Threaten her
>She waits for the opportunity and then forcefully drugs us.
>>
>>42491456

"Because you're the only one fool enough to come back straight here! And because your alchemy is useful and most importantly, the princess will not leave without you. She'll do anything to get you back."

"Because she loves me. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"
Maybe that'll spark something within her...some sort of sympathy for such an inevitably doomed romance.

And indeed, had she not been bound she would have likely pretended to have done so. But Tanni is bound to complete honesty.
"I'm well aware. Love is such a strange thing, isn't it? So fragile, so inherently self-destructive. I don't believe I've ever experienced it myself. But I know how to inspire it in others and for that, it is a most useful tool. And right now it is nothing but a leash in my hand and a collar around the princess' neck, forcing her back to you. And back to me."

"No. No, that won't happen. You're going to let me go, let us all go right now. Or..or else I'll use my third wish for something you'll regret. Like uh...I could wish for you to immediately go slam you face into every paving stone in the city with all your strength!"

She groans.
"That would certainly take a while and it would be embarrassing to boot. But I'd survive it and I can just keep hold of you while I do it."

"Well...I can just wish for you to kill yourself."

"But you won't."

"I will!"

"You're not that kind of person, Cennen. You won't do that."

"Uh...uh...I could wish that you rip of all your scales by hand one at a time!"

"Painful! But I'd regrow fairly quickly and I could just hold onto you with my other hand while I do that. I mean, really..."
She bends down and takes hold of your collar with one hand, lifting you up beside her easily. You can't break her grip and all you can do is dangle there powerlessly, your feet kicking at empty air.
"I---I could wish that you travel to the Compact House as fast as you can! While walking on your hands!"

>>
>>42491655
"Difficult. But I could still keep hold of you the whole way maybe or just give you to my Ishmin until I come back."

"Or I could wish for you to immediately present yourself sexually to the first THOUSAND human men you become aware of!"

She laughs again.
"And how does that preclude me letting you go? Hell, I could take you along for the ride if you wanted or just lock you inside. And if you think I'd be humiliated by something like that, then I'm afraid you have no idea how I spent my first century."
She lowers you, your feet brushing against the ground.
"You know, if you just want to have sex with me you could just ask. I probably wouldn't but you never know."

"That's not what I want!"
You silently thank the Creator that you shut off her voice tricks otherwise such a direct offer might have shut down your rational thinking entirely.
"I could wish for you to drink a river or hunt down an anaconda or to regurgitate all the souls you've ever consumed!"

"Then do it! Make the wish! But I'm not going to let you go!"

You look her in the eye.
"I could wish that you give yourself to Hiss. She can eat snakes, you know."

"You wouldn't."

"Try me. Just try me."

She lets go of you.
"Alright. You can leave, I give you my word. Just make a third wish before you go or you'll never be rid of me."

She sits down on the bed, looking away from you. Several minutes later, an Ishmin shows up at the door. He's holding your pack.

Eating Tanni would just make her better at talking to people without immediately convincing them to hate us.
>>

> Just take your pack and leave.

"I'm not using my wish just yet, not while you could screw me over afterwards."
You take your pack from the Ishmin, keeping an eye on Tanni at all times.
"I'm just going to leave. I'll break the wish-bond later."

"Wait!" Tanni protests. "You can't make wishes at a distance!"

"No, I'll use a potion for it. Now where are my friends?"

"Down by the docks."

"Alright. Goodbye Tanni, I hope I never see you again."

"Just break the wish-bond later and you definitely won't."

A pair of Ishmin usher you from the temple, giving you directions to the docks. Night has well and truly fallen, a full moon lighting the way. Pataliputna is still crowded but not quite as much as it was during the day and you make your way to the docks unmolested. It takes an hour, maybe a bit longer.

There aren't many people here and so you are immediately spotted. Hiss calls you over to where she, Oster and Aashenpreet are sitting. Behind them you can see the mostly empty Ulund, with a fleet of ships on the horizon.
"Cennen? Are you alr-"

"Stop right there!"
Armored men suddenly burst from the doors and windows of nearby buildings, having apparently been waiting there until you showed up. There are thirty Ishmin or so, all with swords drawn. Their armor is flecked with red dots, marking them as Attaraan's.
The Ishmin from the mountain? Did they get here before you?

Laldeep stands behind them, his own sword drawn, a giant curved blade.
"Princess, I'm afraid your allies aren't as friendly as you might think. Take them!"

Really?

"Hold it, Laldeep!"
You hold out your right hand, letting all see the mutated brand that scars you.
"We are under the protection of the lady currently residing in this city! You try to do anything to us and you'll have to answer to her!"

Behind you Oster is tense, his own sword in hand. Aashenpreet is cowering, not so much from the men themselves but from who they represent. And Hiss...is smiling? She looks happy.

Laldeep laughs, a faked forced bark that is only a single syllable long.
"So you've gotten better at speaking properly, barbarian? And I'm afraid your lady won't be able to help you here, not like she did at the Compact House when she made us stand down. Times have changed. Who do you think told me where I would find you?"

No way. Tanni wouldn't do that...would she? But then again, it looked like Laldeep and his men had been waiting there for a while. She might have told them that before you and her had come to your new agreement. But she hadn't told you anything about this!
Maybe Laldeep's just lying. You can't fucking tell.

Tanni is still bound to you, she'll have to come save you when you fall into danger. Only...she's at least an hour away probably. By the time she arrives you might already be dead.

Only you have no idea what you can do against a full thirty Ishmin. You're not going to take them by surprise and you're all out of explosive brews. Can you just keep delaying them?
"Your master gravely oversteps his bounds, Laldeep! Do you really think that he will escape justice for what he did in the House?"

"I could ask you the very same! And the answer will not matter, for his reckoning will come only after I have presented him with your heads!"

Oster sighs.
"Here it comes. Anyone got any ideas?"

She's looking much better, you'd never even know that she had been shot just this morning. She steps past you, her hands in the air.
"I'm sorry Laldeep but I don't think I could stand the indignity of surrendering to a Vtriya who is, frankly, second-rate. Though I suppose that makes you a fitting servant where Attaraan is concerned."

"Don't bother recanting those words, whore. My lord will make you suffer a thousand times for each one."

"Funny, I don't see him anywhere. Is Attaraan such a coward? Or could it be that he's nothing but a beast who's finally overstepped his bounds? Is he being leashed back to his masters for what he's done now?"

"That hardly ma-"

"To think, a Suzerain deliberately marring the purity of the Compact! I can't imagine what lies in store for him."

"The Compact has no purity! You have stolen it all, you have defiled it!"

"Yeah uhuh, keep on talking. Can't you tell which way the wind is blowing?"

Laldeep looks from side to side quickly.
"You have no reinforcements coming. You are trying to bluff me."

"No, I meant that literally. Because this wind is coming in from the sea."

You turn back to the ocean, blue and pink mixing together underneath the moon. That strange fleet of ships you noticed earlier is still there only closer. Much closer. How could they have covered that distance so quickly?
The ships are ramshackle, long and low with tattered sails and with parts that look to have been pieced together from driftwood. And from their sides are oars, rowed by some unseen gallery. And the oars are relentless, pulling the ships forward with a relentless speed and pace that no mortal muscles could sustain.
And with the ships comes a fog rolling in from the ocean, a cold wet fog with a chill unknown to Quedesh, where water never freezes and winter never shows her face.

"I told you Cennen. I was sending Rock to get reliabl allies and transportation. And there were only one group that were close enough to get here in time."

You stare at her. She frowns.
"Uh, Cennen? You can tell me that I'm clever now."

"You mean you got-"

"Yep!"

A black Quedeshi ship sails in to intercept, the harbor hopelessly caught off guard. And really, who could have expected ships that came in so quickly?
One of the ramshackle ships practically collides with the Quedeshi ship, slim figures hurling themselves from one ship to another with axes and spears held high.

From the rest of the fleet, a drum-beat starts, a quick staccato beat that you've heard before. A lone silhouette stands atop the prow of the leading ship, a long staff held in one hand. The fog is being pulled forward by the staff, a single wind moving the entire fleet.
And then as the harbour boat is completely swarmed, the staff wielder begins to lay down a beat. Sure it's in a foreign language and it's spat way faster than you can even understand but there's no mistaking the spoken battle-poetry of the Melach.

"Really? Those guys? I'd sort of forgotten about them."

"Hey, they owe me one. I'm the saltlord, remember. Saltlady?"
She cups her hands and yells back to Laldeep.
"You might as well start running! You can't kill them!"

Laldeep gives out a hoarse shout and his Ishmin charge forward, running towards you!

> Just stick to Hiss.
> Pull out your sword and fight.

A bell rings out across the docks as others notice the fall of the harbor-ship. At first it rings alone but more bells begin to peal throughout the entire city.
Hiss grimaces.
"Looks like we'll have to leave quickly. The whole city is gonna get roused."

You pull your sword from your scabbard as the Ishmin close, Laldeep running in behind them.
Oster holds out a hand, something hidden within it.
"Hey Aash, stay back. You don't have any scales."

He tosses the thing in his hand into the ground and it breaks with the sound of glass shattering. Oh shit right, you'd given him some potions! He still had them all this time?
The potion is just a simple smoke bomb, something you'd consider almost useless when in your hands. But Oster brings a whole new element to it, covering at least half of the Ishmin's advance in smoggy darkness.
And while they're coughing and straining to see, he slips inside it, someone long accustomed to killing in the dark.

Unfortunately that still leaves at least fifteen Ishmin and Laldeep charging at the rest of you. They're moving together, a cohesive unit. As soon as one gets close enough to take a shot at you, they all can.
You can't fight that. Not even Hiss can. She might be invulnerable to being cut but they can still bear her down with sheer coordinated numbers.

You're trying to figure out the best direction to attack as they charge when Aashenpreet pushes past you and Hiss to stand in front of you.
"Get out of my way you fucking crip-"

Aashenpreet dissolves, revealing a coiling yellow snake making a hideous sound. Her rattle shakes you but you stand your ground. And while it doesn't stop the Ishmin either, their charge seems to stumble, their vaunted synchronicity thrown into momentary disarray just as they neared you.

And that's all Hiss needed.
1/2
>>
>>42493325
She leaps forward, bearing one Ishmin to the ground beneath her. There's a lot of blood. Another Ishmin attempts to stab her only for his blade to glance off a coat of black scales. You try to stab him in the back while he's off-guard but your sword only glances off his armor. He advances towards you, making mockery of your own attempts at swordplay.
So you throw a potion at him, the first one you could find in your pack.

The Ishmin intercepts it, dashing it apart instinctively with his sword...which lets the acid rain down right through his helmet. He screams and you push him off the dock into the ocean.

Meanwhile Hiss is getting burdened down, knocked around by the force of the Ishmins blows despite her invincibility. And then Oster is there, leaving those still alive and trapped in the cloud behind to defend his princess. He's not that much better than an Ishmin himself when it comes to pure sword-fighting but when Hiss is backing him, he doesn't really need to be.

-Cennen, watch out!-

A cold voice speaks inside your head and you duck down without thinking, Laldeep's huge sword passing just over you.
"Rock?"

-I'm here!-
Rock drifts down, having been carried before the ships upon the wind. She latches onto Laldeep's mask, making him scream and retch. But she doesn't have much more power than that, she must have spent it all to do Hiss' errand so quickly.
And there is no earth or stone here to aid her.

You ready your Rumpleskin brew as Laldeep raises his sword once more-
The dock around you explodes as something huge and dark bursts from the water, catapulting itself through the wood as if it was nothing. Gigantic jaws clasp around the Vtriya and bring him screaming down into the sea.

"Wha?"

-You had a friend at the island with the skeletons. He says that you left him and he couldn't understand why so he just swam back to the last place you were at.-

"Bunyip? Wait, you can talk to him?"

The lead ship doesn't slow as it approaches the dock, in fact, it might even have sped up. It smashes through the dock with a runaway speed, breaking both it and itself to smithereens, smashing Ishmin aside. Skeletons boil out of the shipwreck in a wave of motion, completely unharmed by the devastation. You see a few putting their heads or limbs back on but it barely seems to slow them down.

By this point the regular soldiers and militia of Pataliputna are swarming onto the dock and the Melach meet them with a vigorous chorus of whoops and battlecries. Blood is spilled and in no small amount, the battle entirely one-sided.

And from the broken prow above them, Kom-Nah the battle-poet continues his quick flow, inspiring them to ever greater feats of brutality.
And then he stops, empty sockets alighting upon Hiss and her companions.
"Saltlord! We have come as commanded, to take one final raid before you send us to the beyond!

Hiss laughs, an evil cackle.
"Yes! I knew this would work! Come on guys, we're leaving. Time to go home."

You grab her shoulder, prompting a quick flash of fangs.
"Hiss wait! We still haven't found it!"

"Pardon?"

"You came here seeking strength and you rejected what you found. Can we really go home empty-handed?"

"Cennen, you moron. I found plenty. Now come on, you dingus."

> Go with her.

> Hold on, there's something else you need to do.

ride the bunyip once we're a fair distance away
>>
>>42493644
>> Go with her.
Grab Aash, Oster and Broyip, leave. Break the wishbone to Tanni via potion, which also frees Aash. Oh also nobble alchemy supplies.

>>42493686
No breaking the Wishbond, too tempting to hold on it to experiment with. But yes to nobbling supplies and general Barbarian pillaging.
>>
>>42493644
> Go with her.
We better pet and groom the shit out of that bunyip
>>
>>42493701
We'd better. Unless you wNt another fleet after us. Besides we did promise.
>>
>>42493686
>nobble alchemy supplies.
Nigga a large scale battle is happening. Not a good time to scavenge.
>>
>>42493644
> Go with her.
[spoilers] We control two small armies (one of them immortal), though, we could have a go at Attaran and fuck his shit up [/spoiler]
Time to go... Guys, I'm really sad we didn't get to see any anacondas besides Sint
>>
>>42493722
We promised to after we returned to our country.
>>
> Go with her.

"Well, if we're leaving I'd really like to grab some alchemical supplies or-"

"Holy hell Cennen, are you going to ask this every time we're trying to go somewhere?"

"Look, I just think that it would be n-"

"Hey Kom-Nah! Can you tell some of your warriors to gather up anything that looks alchemical?"

"Absolutely. We were going to pillage, anyway."

"Hiss, how the hell would they know what anything alchemical is?"

"Cennen you dip, this is a battlefield. Or it's becoming one. This isn't really the place for your cute little obsession."
Before you can do anything else, she bodily picks you up and bundles you over her shoulder.
"Hey, check it out. Maybe you're my pillage, huh? Come to think of it, that's more or less accurate."

Oster and Aashenpreet meet up behind you, Oster even snickering a little as he beholds your undignified position. As for Aashenpreet, she doesn't look very happy about the Melach or indeed, anything that's happened today but Oster takes her by the hand and she follows you.

The Bunyip surfaces as Hiss reaches the water's edge, the princess jumping back and nearly dropping you.
"Eugh! Did they really have to bring that thing as well?"

-No. That was my decision-
Rock is sitting atop the Bunyip's canine head.
-He is willing to carry you all out to the nearest Melach ship. Even you, princess.-

"Bah. Cennen, why does every 'friend' you make end up hating me?"
You just sigh and wait for her to get on the Bunyip, dropping you down next to her. You pat the Bunyip on the head, scratching his ears as he gives a nearly subsonic groan of joy.
"I'm sorry I forgot about you buddy. I won't do it again."

Rock slides in next to you as everyone else gets on, Aashenpreet looking at the Bunyip with alarm.
"So Rock," you say. "Thanks, you did really well."

-It was nothing, Cennen though I will take your gratitude over that of the princess, who will offer me nothing.-

"No seriously man, this is fantastic. Thank you."

>"Bah. Cennen, why does every 'friend' you make end up hating me?"
Because Hiss as much as I love you, you're a massive bitch.
>>
>>42493807
-Is it? By bringing these monsters here, I have caused the deaths of many blameless people. I have taken their lives. I have come full circle since we met Cennen, when you had to teach me about death. Now I too inflict the same upon the world.-

"Rock, I didn't me-"

-It's not your fault Cennen. I have much to think about.-

Hiss scoffs.
"Don't worry, you'll grow to love it. Now Cennen, is this not the most fantastic thing you've ever seen?"

"It's pretty close, I suppose."

"Oh! Pretty 'close', huh? I promised you in Taldenral that I'd lead you to glory. Have I not accomplished that here? 'Pretty close', my arse."

"It's a start."

Hiss grumbles underneath her breath, despite knowing that you're being more playful than sincere.

"Then I'll just have to try harder."

You would have seen loads if you'd gone the jungle path. Sint was really just an easter egg representing a path that the Quest never went down.

>>42493872
And with that, is the end for today. And the end of Part 2! It went on for a bit longer than I ever intended it to. I hope all of you had fun!
Might do a sort of Summary thread tomorrow, the kind that I was threatening a few weeks back. Aye or nay?
>>
>>42493872
> "Then I'll just have to try harder."
Shit
>>
>>42493888
Summary and interludes. That'd be cool. Maybe interlewds if you wanted as well.
>>
>>42493888
Thanks for running! I'm fine with a summary thread if you want it but it's not necessary for me at all personally
>>
>>42493888
I've been here since thread 1 so I selfishly don't want a summary thread. But I'd be okay with it if there were some interlude sprinkled in as well. It's up to you.
>>
>>42493888
Thanks for running! I'm glad we had this sort of Epilogue, wouldn't want to leave Quedesh without saying goodbye to Tanni.

> You would have seen loads if you'd gone the jungle path
Why must you hurt me so...?
>>
>>42493902
Ouro does not write lewds and I like it that way
>>
>>42493902
Interludes are a part of that plan, yeah. Interlewds? Not so much. I decided around thread 13 that I wasn't going to delve too much into that sort of stuff.

>>42493903
I getcha anon. But there'll be interludes in it too and some general Q/A for the folks that don't sit around in my ask.fm. Also the summary will likely include some QM-only stuff and information.

>>42493929
To be honest I'm doing something tomorrow and don't really have time for a fully involved actual thread. So it's a recap thread tomorrow or no thread tomorrow.
Plus I need impetus to actually finish the Summary pastebin, goddamn.
