Welcome to Deja Vu Evolution (final name pending). Basically this is a regular evo-game only it will last a few days. The idea is to, down the line, replay this evolution game with the same initial condition but see what goes differently that time.
And now its Deja Vu Time, the second Evo

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic
• Have fun

The setting is a planet similar to earth, currently mostly covered in oceans. The animals in it are tiny and sightless.

They try to follow scent associated with food, and avoid scents associated with harmful substances. Also, they've lost their anti-aliasing, making them more receptive to fill tools.

Some develop proteins on their membranes that link algaes of the same species together into a single mass. Nutrients and sugars pass though clusters via diffusion allowing for more stable development while the mass is still on the smaller side than if they were just individual cells. If they get too large, those not exposed to much light or water will simply leech nutrients from the rest of the colony.

I noticed this a lot in the last thread. People seem to focus too much on 3-2 creatures instead of all 5. Right now the braf has gotten a nose. That's it. It has been better since last thread but I do not want a repeat of Mary Sue perfect predator mulu. If you are posting a ton of Bzol (just an example) and notice that no one has updated algae in awhile you should take a break from bzol and update algae.

the mouthparts of the jet mulu change and become more specialized, split into both propulsion segments and eating segments.

their mouth has become more tubelike forming around the spine to create a kind of needle/proposcus whcih is very sharp and durable.

this acts as a sort of hypodermic needle allowing them to impale larger prey or other organic bits and suck out the juices from inside rather than requiring a jaw to chew their food.

some of these mulu even take to more parasitic food sources and dive into larger creatures to suck their juices before swimming off again quickly

Over the years the Braf Bigus not only develops a veritable main of feelers, but they also become significantly thicker for ensnaring passing pray. It's back tissue also hardens into a shell as it becomes thicker alongside the feelers.

The added bulk of the creature, however, slows it down significantly, causing it to lose what's left of it's tail and become a mostly stationary opportunistic predator, waiting for prey to pass overhead and snagging it with it's large front feelers.

However with the other creatures becoming quicker and more evasive, it's lack of movement may put the lineage at risk.

The jaws of the Wooly Braf grow upward in an attempt to better capture prey before they can escape. Bioluminescent cells appear on the tips to lure in victims, while it's body is obscured by feelers and sand.

When a curious mulu or bzol, or cerar swims up to investigate, it quickly pinches it between it's jaws and pulls it's body into it's mouth with it's prehensile front feelers.

>>42473323
I say don't worry about it. Typos can lead to some great things in these. People joke about it, and then twist it into something that makes sense.
Example: Furlongs from Primordial. Someone accidentally said they seek "good" instead of "food". This lead to Kamen Rider jokes and furlongs being allies of justice. From that, we came up with a guardian caste for the species determined by body temperature variations messing up hormones during prenatal development in females.

Now to apply that to this.

The Cerr, facing stiff competition from competitive species of Sand Lurker, adopt a more mobile, predatory approach to hunting. With one of their mouth-mandibles becoming longer as the other recedes, this flexible species begins roaming the seafloor, targeting the immobile LurkBzol. >>42473515
Approaching their prey, they use their lower trio of flexible claws to bury themselves partly, before extending forward to hover over their prey in preparation to stab downwards. Mulu Vampiris becomes further specialized as a jet-powered bloodsucker.

its speed far outmatches anything else in the sea which allows it to easily ambush and chase down prey.

its senses have heightened considerably to the point it can 'sense' even trace chemicals in the water, its ability to perceive differences in light/darkness have improved as well to allow it to navigate often unpredictable terrain/algae beds and pinpoint its target. these take the form of two sensory patches at the ends of their chemical sensors.

these mulu have largely abandoned filter feeding for blood/fluid drinking and drinking from already dead creatures. some even rush back multiple times to drink again and again until their prey is merely a husk.

>>42478828
With all their potential prey becoming either larger ambush predators or very fast swimmers, the Bzad begin to fall short. Their dense, armored bodies and poor swimming legs make it difficult to effectively swarm their prey.

Because of this, some Bzad develop flatter, more streamline bodies to slither more effectively through the water. Distributing their mass a little better lets them float more easily, and flapping their rudimentary tail provides better propulsion, as does tucking in their large dense legs.

tl;dr the pudgy armored bodies without swimming legs didn't seem functional as a swarm predator. If anything i'd imagine they'd have a difficult time swimming outside of short bursts by quickly extending their legs, like sand shrimp. Hope this isn't too much at once.

Also it get's bumblebee stripes because not a lot of people are playing with colors much and i want to mix it up

Their small(-ish) size throws makes them primary predator and pray to the bigger and meaner secondary predators like the Bzad swarms and some varieties of Cerr. This forces them to up their defences again, this time developing an erectil tissue on their backs covered by a sightly stronger skin. When attacked, this tissue quickly fills with their dense blood and pushes the attacker back, sometimes it even breaks mandibles, this erected tissue is kept as armor until danger ends, then its shedded and the Bazoo is vulnerable until it regrows.

No, more like giant erect dicks on their back.

This braf has evolved from its semi-armored form, and gained a few more fins. This type of Braf takes advantage of the abundance of 'ambush predators'. This braf has evolved to scan across the ground, in order to find a sign of an ambush area, before it swims upward as high as possible, before suddenly swimming straight downward, in order to crash into the ambush spot, and bite into the creature, and trying to drag it out and float higher , where it's vulnerable.

Sounds like a legitimately terrifying creature. Imagine if they were like a metre long/

foxes KIND OF do that in the arctic

Since they have a better sight, through selection they develope the ones with special colored fins which blend in with water but waved in a mate dance signals other enders that they are friendly.

With the abundance of ambush predators and the things beginning to hunt them, the filter feeding Bzor develop large lobe fins: allowing them to "walk" along the sea floor while grazing, but quickly kick off with a burst of speed to avoid any emerging predators beneath the sand.

Their light sensitive spots and functioning eyes also spread out more to the side to better watch for signs of an ambush.

Shit i only just realized i confused the shovel mouth parts for >>42482189 with the graspers >>42482709 actually has. I mixed them together in my head. Hope that doesn't fuck things up. I can edit it if i need to.

To avoid the bigger predator the new top filament gets a membram for swimming.

since the mouth filaments are even less used for swimming, they get strong muscles.
Now they can grab on Algeas and pushing it to their mouth.

Okay, see you guys next thread.
>>
>>42485038
Should I wait until tomorrow to make a new thread?
>>
>>42485038
yes,
than all a good week start.
see you
>>
>>42485299
i would guess yes.

a-a tree?

Evolutionary tree.

Can next evo thread be about cells? i recommend playing cellcraft first.
>>
Oh dammit image limit's hit. I was doing a thing to kill time and maybe keep the threads alive a bit.

Here. I'll post the finished version in the next thread i catch

Slowly evolving sea slugs into something worthwhile is already uninteresting enough. I'm just waiting for someone to finally give something a backbone so we can get out of the water.

Cells would be stupid boring

That fucking wicked sweet. It remind me of all of those artist renditions of the burgess shale fossils

I think that I will take everything, put it all in a big pile, and create a radnom mass extinction event to start part 2 thread. Give me like 20 minutes probably
>>
>>42486866
So, are we going to continue where this left off, or wipe the slate clean to take it in a new direction. With >>42487141, I'd love to see where this goes. Maybe some drawfags including myself would be willing to clean up the most recent images as starters. PNG with no antialiasing, of course.
>>
>>42488021
Didn't mean to quote.

I'm randomly rolling up a mass extinction right now for this thread. 10% of everything here will survive, everything else goes ka-put.

Someone give me a mass extinction event that would make for a good jumping off point next thread.

that might not kill off any species, depending on the path. It might severely reduce the population of a species, but not kill it off.
