You have entered Anderson’s office and spoken to him.

He has agreed to let you borrow his space suit, as long as you find him a couple of things.

Please, suggest an action.

The two of you quickly leave the room to talk to Synthia.
However, you meet someone on the way to her lab.

Luke says hi.

He says that he can’t give it to anyone who asks. If you have any walls that you needed melted, however, he can help you before going back to fixing what he broke.
He says that he won’t cut any locked doors though. Anderson wouldn’t like that.

> Onwards to the garden.
Luke tells you that, if you need him, just knock on the door to the S-Drive and he will answer if he can.

You leave and go through the cockpit, reaching the laboratory. You knock on the garden’s door and after a few moments Synthia opens it. She asks what do you want.

She also tells Jack to leave her sights if he doesn’t want her to rip his face open again.
>>
>>42449920
Sweet as usual, Synthia.
Tell Jack to leave the room and not die while we aren't with him.

Ask if she knows anything about Anderson's eyes. And when did she slash Jacks face open?
>>

After Jack leaves the room, Synthia goes back inside the garden, signing you to follow her. After checking to see if there were any dangers, you enter the Garden.

Dr. Prince is here. He seems to be sleeping.

>who tore Anderson's eyes out
>Ask if she knows anything about Anderson's eyes.
She says she ripped them off his face. After they returned from the black hole, she knew it was a matter of time before they returned. So, she sneaked into the S-Drive and broke whatever she could.
Anderson has put a special lock in there, one that only opens with his eye and fingerprint. She took one of the two.

>And when did she slash Jacks face open?
Back when he still remembered the darkness. Back when he was still torturing her.

>why Anderson needs a space suit
She says it is hard to fix what she broke. That red liquid that flows through the veins of the ship burns skin like lava, and she had filled a good portion of the drive with it, then cut holes into Anderson’s repair suit. She figured he was using a space-suit as replacement.

“It is beautiful, isn’t it? While we turn against each other, the plants unite. They became one, giving their all to create a single flower, with the hopes that their offspring would manage o leave this place. It is a shame we can’t work together like they can.”
“Yet even this creation is afraid of the virus the gravity hell gave birth to. Even the plants flee from its presence.”

What is through that door covered in vines?

I need to get my space suit to get out of this ship. Anderson has it, but will only let me borrow it if I get him his eyes. I don't suppose you would let me have them?

Also, why doesn't Anderson just use the healing pod to get his eyes back?

Also am I the only one in this thread?

>What is through that door covered in vines?
The sterilizer. Put anything you want sterilized in that room and it wait for the ding. That room shouldn’t be in that spot, but that’s not news on this ship.

>why doesn't Anderson just use the healing pod to get his eyes back?
She says he is afraid. He has seen what the ship did to Jack when he was in one of those. He doesn’t want anything like that to happen to him. He entered once, before Jack, but at that time the ship hadn’t awoken yet.
Also, he doesn’t want to kill himself. He says it will make him “impure”.

> I need to get my space suit to get out of this ship. Anderson has it, but will only let me borrow it if I get him his eyes. I don't suppose you would let me have them?
She says she needs to get inside the core again. She wants to blow it up, to make sure they never return to the darkness, or, if they do, that they don’t ever drag anyone back with them. But to do that, however, she needs Anderson’s fingerprints.
She says that Simon may have a way for you to get them.
>>
Maybe we could have Luke cut through the walls where there are scratch marks resembling a door?

Sorry I missed it. Fuck.

I think everyone forgot that on seeing Simon, you can now sneak into Simon's room with his keycard since it's no longer locked from the inside.

And also forgot to ask Simon, how the hell was he getting inside S-Drive when Anderson revoked his permission to enter?

And without a suit?

And without his keycard which had said authorization revoked, even if it was re-added?

>She says he is afraid. He has seen what the ship did to Jack when he was in one of those. He doesn’t want anything like that to happen to him. He entered once, before Jack, but at that time the ship hadn’t awoken yet.

So he got put in healing tank, and the ship removed the black hole's madness from him. I thought you said you didn't know the whole story of how he stopped being a drive-slave?

You said you locked him in a locker and gagged him. Which is where we found him, perfectly sane and rational. So that had to be the last thing that happened chronologically. Which means the healing tank healing was first.

So you tied up and trapped a Jack that had already been healed and wasn't a threat anymore? For what purpose?

We’re back.

>I thought you said you didn't know the whole story of how he stopped being a drive-slave?
She says she doesn’t. What she does know is that the sip took away Jack’s memory of his medicine, which eventually made him forget what happened inside the black-hole. She says her innocence and hope that the universe was not terrible allowed her to partially escape that hell, but… It had not been enough to get her entirety away from it. Some part of her soul was still there.

Maybe… Maybe Jack had managed to free himself completely. Maybe he had climbed out of the gravity hell on his own. That would explain why he hadn’t changed, like her and all the others. Maybe all that bounded him to this ship were his memories. Maybe the Ship had allowed them to be washed away.

>So you tied up and trapped a Jack that had already been healed and wasn't a threat anymore? For what purpose?
Oh, he was still a threat back then. The ship was not as powerful at that time. She only managed to change a little, only managed to remove one single memory. In Jack’s case, however, all it had to do was make him forget his medicine, and his violence would go away with him.

Any other questions or do you wish to go somewhere else?

You probably need to check on Cargo Control for the list of equipment. As far as she knows, everything was bought in bulk. There is probably some rope in there somewhere.

>Have you ever spoken to the ship? How can you be sure it's sapient?
Spoken? No. It is not something tangible, a deep connection. There are some things she just knows are right.

> You're implying the ship is growing more and more powerful?
> If we keep the ship out of the black hole for long enough, will it grow strong enough to win?
She doesn’t think so. She says she thinks the ship is at her limit, just barely holding on, stopping the Drive from killing you or harming you. The drive knows you are trouble.

>Is it strong enough to save Simon if we trick him into a healing tank?
She doesn’t know, but she wouldn’t bet on it.

>Are the flowers important, or was he just blustering?
This garden was her life. She gave everything to building it and caring for it. She is not going to let it be destroyed, not before she is sure this ship is no more.

> Was that door in the bottom of cargo bay, or the stairwell?
At the cargo bay. She says she doesn’t know what is at the bottom of the stairwell.

Okay things are falling into place.

I can see multiple endings.

BAD END
Everyone goes into the darkness.
SACRIFICE END
Everyone goes into the darkness, but in a way that ensures that the drive is also destroyed, and can never trap anyone again.
DEAL WITH THE DEVIL END
Ellie agrees to give Anderson his eyes back, in exchange for Ellie and Jack escaping the ship before he activates the drive.
HERO END
Ellie and Jack help Sylvia get Anderson's fingerprints and somehow escape to her ship together, letting Sylvia destroy the ship, the S-Drive, and everything.
??? END
The ship... takes over the S-Drive, assumes direct control of the black hole, and becomes able to accomplish the actual mission, traveling freely between galaxies, without all the uncontrollable evil parts?

Okay, we could ask Luke for his torch for a mission to burn the vines to the ground in order to get into sterilizer, and either mindbreak or piss off the one person who can keep Prince in check.

Or maybe some terraforming equipment includes some poles we can move the vines onto. And a ladder so we can reach the really, really high vines up there.

He says Luke was in here earlier, changing the place. He said that he would speak to Anderson. He said he would make up for his mistakes.

> Luke thinks he can break the ship. Can he? Can we save the ship?
That doesn’t seem like the Luke he knows. Maybe you misunderstood him.

No, you can’t save the ship. You can escape it, though. That nothing that has gone past the event horizon can return. Not without a sacrifice of equal value. One birthed from something that didn’t come from inside the black-hole.

>Do you know how to stop the S-Drive?
You can try blowing it to pieces. He doesn’t guarantee it will work, though

>Do you keep doing this because the ship tells you what you need to do?
No. He keeps doing them because it is his fate. It was written as such. The book said so. He sees that you have his book and asks you if you have seen what comes after his death.

He asks if you will help him fulfill his fate.

Know? There is no knowledge in here. There is only feeling. And he knows that the same way he knows he can’t escape.

Not bargained. It can’t control it. It is the nature of the universe in effect. Nothing can escape the event horizon, yet this is its edge.
He turns to Jack. He says that from here he can jump out, if only he had something to push out against. Something of equal value, or greater. Yet what can be worth more than a soul?

>Whose deal?
Anderson’s. He gave Simon free roam on the ship to fulfill his destiny, as long as He agreed to help him, if it didn’t work. Simon agreed.

Innocence is optimistic, Sadness is pessimistic. They disagree about whether Jack can leave and be free, or whether you have to take that freedom from someone else. Whether the universe is kind or cruel.

>What will happen after we all go back?
He says we shall bask in it, let it consume use. It is a place like no other.

>Why did everything happen the way it has, with everyone stuck and resurrecting?
He says that… that some part of him wanted to get out. He is not sure why. He feels he needs to return to it, though. He MUST return to it.

>Ask Luke if he's seen the chapel? It looks like someone improved it lately.
Yes, he says that he is the one who did it. He feels that symbol used to mean something, that it fit there. He doesn’t remember what it was ever supposed to mean, however. He just felt a need to place it there.

He asks you if you liked it, and if there is anything else he can do for you before asking Anderson to open the door to the S-Drive for him again.
>>

There's another door to carve out in the stairwell.

What are you going to do about that garden?

Was that part of you the part that remembers the cross you made? Your faith?
>>
You know, we now seem to have Anderson's severed hand, which he probably regenerated in a healing tank way earlier before the ship was strong enough to mess with his head.

We could... expose that hand to let the purple goo copy it. Resulting in a corrupted Anderson clone, complete with working eyes?

>There's another door to carve out in the stairwell.
He asks you to lead him there.

>What are you going to do about that garden?
He cheerfully tells you that he is going to burn it, of course. There is no better way to kill plants than fire. The ever cleansing fire. Turn their little leaves into pure ash.

>Was that part of you the part that remembers the cross you made? Your faith?
He doesn’t know. He thinks he lost that part, whatever it was, somewhere deep, deep in the darkness.

You reach the stairwell and Luke promptly cuts open the door for you. A stairwell leads down from it.

You go down the stairs…

What.

...uhoh, right, the purple goo.

What even are the red thing and the pale things?

Luke, how can you burn the garden when there's Prince guarding it?

> What even are the red thing and the pale things?
The pale things to the left seem to be feathers. The thing to the right appears to be a bloodied scalpel.

>Luke, how can you burn the garden when there's Prince guarding it?
That’s a secret. It is no fun if there is no surprise. Besides, if he told you, you could tell her. He wouldn't want that.
>>
>>42465158
Feathers touching the goo?

Oh wait. right. The Captain.

Jack: Suddenly recall that the Captain seemed super-strong.

Obtain clean feathers and the scalpel.

Resist the urge to push Luke over the railing or nailgun him to the floor.
>>
>>42465273
Although if he's facing Ellie and Jack has the nailgun, he could do it.

Problem is being careful not to kill him and not let him kill himself.
>>
>>42465333
Maybe it would be better to arrange something with Synthia to send Dr. Prince at a certain time and place to ambush Luke on the way back to Engineering.

We just have to have him make a third opening somewhere, like into Simon's busted room door, as an excuse.

We just can't be with him when he meets Prince, or he might attack us too.

But if the monster kills him or captures him we can get his blowtorch.

>Obtain clean feathers and the scalpel.
Ellie picks them up, being careful not to touch the purple goo.

>Resist the urge to push Luke over the railing or nailgun him to the floor.
Urge successfully resisted.

Luke asks if you have anything else for him to do. He needs to go back soon. Anderson probably has already noticed he is gone. He may come looking for him. He may bring the Captain. He doesn’t want that.

Wonder if the captain can fly over the purple goo to the boxes.
>>
>>42465506
The Captain? Where even is he, we've been all over this ship.

But okay, that's all for now, thanks, Luke. Good luck on releasing the cleansing flames.

Now go analyze scalpel blood.

>Wonder if the captain can fly over the purple goo to the boxes.
Only if he has gained wings in this whole mess, but he doesn’t seem to have, from the last time you saw him.

>analyze scalpel blood.
You put the blood from the scalpel through the analyzing machine.
It tells you that a DNA analysis show that it is common blood, from a rabbit. No anomalies were found.

So that's how Jack got his face carved up.

Whatever happened to the rope that Jack was originally tied up with?

Whatever, go to cargo controls. See which of your various access cards can access it.

Check deep storage listings.

>Whatever happened to the rope that Jack was originally tied up with?
You picked it up and added to your big ball of string. It is thin, strong enough to bind wrists, but not enough to hold someone’s weight.

>Whatever, go to cargo controls. See which of your various access cards can access it.
>Check deep storage listings.
This place brings back memories. Remember? When you weren’t running from reviving lunatics and monsters that are actually people brought from the bottom of darkness? Good times.

The computer is voice operated. You ask it for the list of cargos in deep storage and it tells you a long list of things. Most of it is terraforming equipment. There are a few boxes with large amounts of rope, spare parts, silver tape, etc. Other crates are filled with the usual for a ship this large, like food and other supplies.

The system issues a warning: “Deep Storage crate retrieval system failure.”

Damn it. You check on the boxes already here. Most of it is science equipment, though you manage to discover that a few of them have ropes in them. Not much else, though.

It lead to the lower parts of the Storage room. Ellie had already used this ladder before, when Jack was setting up the boxes to make a set of stairs up.

Oh.

Well grab extra rope from boxes. At least enough rope to reach your ship, once you have the spacesuit.

That’s a lot of rope in this box. Jack grabs a good amount of it, but there is still plenty left.

Jack if full of stuff. You don't think he can carry anything else.

Leave most of the rope in airlock. Just keep enough to tie up 3 people.

Visit Synthia's garden. Mention Luke may be trying to flood the garden with Fermionic Isolation Liquid.

And will Prince listen to complex orders, like retrieving someone alive?

Done.

>Visit Synthia's garden. Mention Luke may be trying to flood the garden with Fermionic Isolation Liquid.
You knock on her door and she opens it. You tell her about whatyou think Luke is planning and she tells you she would like to see him try. As far as she knows, the tubes are not even close to her garden… Though with the ship having being “remodeled”… She will keep an eye out.

>And will Prince listen to complex orders, like retrieving someone alive?
No, he only understands and protects her, nothing more.

She asks if you have already found Anderson’s fingerprints.
>>
>>42467059
What good are fingerprints without his keycard to get into S-Drive?

Do we have to kill him to get that?

You don’t need Anderson’s keycard if you have the captain’s. She says she has a plan. She will tell you once you get her Anderson’s fingerprints.

Okay, we have his hand.

About the Captain, you should know we found feathers by a giant sea of purple goo in deep storage.

Does the goo recreate an entire person from just contact with a part of them?

Did she have time to get a plant for us like we discussed?

And is there anything in particular we need to do to care for it? We're not exactly a professional botanist.
>>
>>42467454
But, maybe we really should have Prince kill Luke? We can bring him to the residential area, and Prince can find him on his way back to engineering. We can hide in one of the locked rooms.

He'll resurrect but we can take his blowtorch from his corpse, he probably needs that to do his work.

She sighs at that. She says she should have known Anderson would try something like this. Damn it Captain.

>Does the goo recreate an entire person from just contact with a part of them?
If is just a moment, no, probably. It will recreate your body, but the brain will be a mess. But give it a few minutes of contact and it will be much more like you.

>Did she have time to get a plant for us like we discussed?
>And is there anything in particular we need to do to care for it? We're not exactly a professional botanist.
Yes, she has. She will give it to you soon enough. And this thing survived a black-hole. I will survive a bit of bad soil.

“Good. Then we shall begin. Tell your boyfriend to get closer.”

Thank you all for participating! Any suggestions or comments?

I have no prediction for when I'll manage to run the next chapter, so follow my twitter to see when I start the next thread: @LuthQM

Haha oh god.

Well that healing tank is right there.

Is it time for Dr. Frankenstein mad science eye and hand transplants?

Sorry about that. To be frank even I didn't know it was going to be today. I just got a free day that I didn't know I had.

I'll try to give a little more warning next time.
