If I recall correctly, a Sorceress could leech on a deity or other powerful entity, and combined with Melinda's ever-consumming nature, it could be pretty deadly.

Several things pass through your m ind but you don't 'voice' any of them. You do focus on one that makes a difference. (How are you doing, Kiku-chan? Aside from being on an island.) You suspect she won't need any special attention for some time, but she is under a great deal of stress, given that she's in charge of Kiki-hime's safety.

She takes no time to consider or think about it, or it could be simply that she thinks that much faster than you do. (Knowing my master is safe is reassuring, and there haven't been any conflicts or troubles from anyone. It is strange to be performing these duties again. I am not used to it but Yui-san and Inau-san make things much easier. Yuuhi-san....she is strange aniki.)

Kiku-chan's amusement, mild though it is, makes you feel a little better. She's much too serious and angry, in your opinion. But it is Kiku-chan, so such things must be forgiven. (It didn't take that long, though it became somewhat frightening towards the end. It seems that it is possible to combine two different spirit-child bloodlines from different places, but the results aren't actually that much more powerful, only more versatile. Akari spent half of her Shen in Barrier Combat, but I spent most of mine after the fact and in the physical world, which was exhausting.) Her temper is cool, at least, and she seems to be considering your words carefully. (We're both resting after helping one another recuperate.)

You can feel her hair waft like fire from the heat she generates in her embarrassment. (Hentai dragon!)

(Well, it helps me recover! That's why I'm awake and she's sleeping. Besides, you would have known if things had become very bad, I think.) Her agreement is silent but sure. (I would like you all to stay there, in any case, and we'll rejoin you in a few hours. She needs to sleep more, and it won't hurt me to rest as well.) Also, Akari is really lovely to feel resting over you as she is. You stroke her hair and she turns her head sleepily.

(Hai aniki. That will still be well before dawn.) Your last question, concerning sorceresses and youkai, disturbs her a bit. (It is unusual for sorcerers to become youkai, but not unheard of. More commonly they are punished by a kami, or struck by youkai, rather than living too long. But in some cases they can become youkai, usually if they delve into the darker magics or practice onmyōji-) Shikigami magic, possessing magic, if you remember your history. (-but it takes a careless of foolish sorcerer to go that far.)

As she wakes, you let her feel your awareness of her presence, not merely that of her sleeping self or the touch to the Void to her mind, but of her presence in your life. How she makes you happy, gives you strength, makes your best friend's life complete, how she completes you in doing so. You wrap her in your love, your well being, let yourself, for a brief moment, glory in her place in your life and what it means to you.

Her response is nothing less than exultation; she revels in your attention, your love of her, as if she is a dragon basking in sunlight – or in the ocean, in your case, you suppose. That doesn't really seem to make sense, since Water dragonettes are strongly predisposed towards Yin already, but their nature is anything BUT lethargic.

If anything it seems like general activeness and excitability increase as you become more imbalanced in either direction, while a balanced individual grows more calm.

Like a voltage difference, in a way.

Water dragon-children are lethargic in the sense that they overthink things, and it prevent them from acting promptly. That's why they aren't associated with speed, like Fire dragon-children.

You'd notice how easily foiled all the Water dragonettes we've met were (even our sister) as soon as we get them out of their comfort zone, that they carefuly planned with their dangerous, clever mind.

Heck, even Ryukusa falls into that trap.

Closing your eyes half-way, you let your mind drift for a short while. The momentary clearing of your thoughts paves the way for you to let yourself meditate, and that helps you rest and recover the spiritual essences of yourself. After a while you let the meditation lapse, allowing it to become a kind of dream-state. Not truly sleep, but not truly awake either, a sort of between point where the barriers between consciousness and sub-conscious are thinner.

It doesn't take too terribly long for your mind to let you know there are a few issues below the surface. Nothing earth-shattering or terribly traumatic, no, but things you need to pay attention to at some point.

One of the things that crops up almost immediately is a streak of guilt at not plying Yui-niji-chan with more attention. It isn't that you've been willfully neglecting her, it's simply that you have all been very busy and you needed her in capacities that she was best suited for, while yours took you elsewhere. Much of the guilt – which is not too terribly heavy, only mild and not paralyzing – stems from the fact that she'll of course forgive you and think nothing of it. You only have to recall her breathtaking feelings to know that for a fact. Still, it is something you think needs addressing.

The date with Er Yin and Kiku, of course, is a swirl of wishes and hopes, not only your own. Er Yin wants to see the changes that have come with the past hundred-plus years, while Kiku wants to ensure that you and Er yin will be all right together. Her dedication to you and her need for a master (it occurs to you again that her age might be part of this problem, not simply a kink or a source of pleasure) should be in conflict, by her thinking. The lack of xenophobia you display is reassuring to her, of course, but this is more than a simple love triangle or slap-and-tickle session. This is her deity meeting her master, and forging a relationship. Despite her fears, you think that it will be less traumatic for her than she fears. Er Yin is gloriously interesting, and she is something you have a dearth of in your life – a woman who makes you feel feminine by her own nature.

The drift of your dream crosses over into more tenuous territory. Kiki-hime is....different. Your relationship with her is complicated in a way that your relationships with the others are not. The bonds are there, and they are tight, but the love is fragile, something delicate and you feel like you are treading on eggshells with it. You can't pinpoint why, but you know there is more to it than simply not caring. Despite that, she is certain she can rise above this uncertainty, and prove to you she is worthy to be yours, and worthy to be with you. Your own doubts aren't always that clear cut....sometimes you're afraid of scaring her, and that makes things difficult. She is, in your mind, truly a princess: kept away from the world, and groomed to be something she had no choices in. Perhaps it's that the choice she made seems to you to be the only choice she had available. Your doubts and confusions are strong in this place.

Basically, Water dragonettes can think of 1003 ways things can go, but if you happen to use the 1004th, they're screwed.

You kiss her softly on the lips, lingering over the kiss, and she accepts it, receptive and open to you. When you both finally break the kiss, she's looking flushed, and feeling warmer against your skin. “No, I've found being near my family helps. Because you are the freedom she has chosen for herself. Yui doesn't get to choose if I ask.”

“....I really hadn't considered it that way, aniki. Of course you may. I imagine she has been looking forward to it for a while now.” You have your doubts that Yui even thinks of it in such a way. She'd wait forever for you. “I would be glad if you did, and I will be happy for you both.” Your Stone dragonette kisses you again and you embrace her, firmly. She sighs and melts into your arms.

Akari sticks her tongue out at you. You'd swat her behind, but you don't want to break anything. Like your hand. Or your wrist. You think you might be good enough to avoid breaking your arm.

Drying off is nearly instantaneous, and she dresses in her traditional schoolgirl uniform, as you decide what you'll be wearing....

It doesn't take long to decide that you wnt this to be different. Both for your family, who are expecting a triumphant return, but also for yourself, because you're feeling kind of different yourself. Things in you have changed, things about you have changed, so why not do something changed?

It doesn't make any sense but that hasn't stopped you yet.

You pull several outfits out of ~Nowhere~ and hand them to a compliant if bemused Akari. It doesn't take long to shape the outfit, nor does it take any time at all (to anyone but you) to put it together. You don't bother asking how long it was; Akari's wide eyes and somewhat alarmed look tells you plenty about how quickly you're working.

When you're done, you dress, and by the time you tap the toe of your boot against a rock to settle it in place, your niji-chan is staring at you with flushed cheeks and two points of prominent evidence that you've outdone yourself this time. You place one hand on your hip and cock your head slightly, smiling at her. “Adequate?”

The thing about school uniforms is that most follow the seifuku style, which is loosely based on nautical uniforms. So naturally, another type of military style wouldn't go amiss, especially if you took it to the other side of that coin, which of course is the style that one would find in band. So the long sleeved, black, double breasted jacket with only four buttons (which frames your booms quite nicely); red trim on the breasting and epaulets, combined with piping on the sleeves.

But rather than pants, you opted for a pleated skirt, also trimmed with a line of crimson just above the black hemline, which is just a touch higher than usual. That gives a nice band of your thigh above the opaque stockings (again, that single red stripe just below the black edging). With a red beret, and sharp ankle boots, you not only look classy, but the addition of a charm bracelet just outside the turned back cuffs gives you a little cuteness to the outfit helped out by glittering hoop earrings with Swarovski crystals in blues, violets and sapphire reflections.

If this wasn't enough, you have both your swords strapped on: Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume at your left hip, in a shiny ebony sheath; at your back, Yama-no-Musume-no-Okurimono, upside down for a long under-draw.

If you were honest, the whole outfit looks a little Magical Girl combined with Kancolle, but what the hell, when it makes Akari nearly wet herself, it's fuckin' worth it.

Before everyone gets too caught up in Ryukusa's elemental balance

A spirit child's elemental balance is always natural to them. Even if there is growth or personal change in their essential elemental affinities, they will never unbaqlance themselves accidentally. Elemental imbalance or disruption can only happen through external forces acting on the spirit-child in question. So, you do not need to worry that Ryukusa will imbalance herself.

Nor are her affinities with her lovers going to be a problem in that manner. Her lovers will remain balanced in themselves, except where illness is a concern. Yes, this lends credence to the idea that there is something wrong with Kiku-chan, but Ryukusa and Kiki-hime have both noticed this for some time. What that is is a matter for debate, and will probably have to be cleared up by Er Yin or Kiku-chan herself, or someone appropriately trained (such as Jinyuu or Yui).

So, while Ryukusa has concentrated her efforts on leanrign more Void techniques, this is not unusual for Demigods - in fact, the usual case is that demigods are potent in three elements at once, and very poor in two of them. This has no effect on their Chi generation or their health balance - health is always a balance of all five elements ~separate from the affinities the spirit-child has~. In other words, the working/power techniques have nothing to do with the health levels and balances, other than how much control one might have over them.
