"This isn't working at all. How'm I supposed to describe things like this?"
"I could knock a hole in the wall, maybe. So I could see inside?"
"A hole in the wall."
"A temporary hole, yes."

A mildly disgruntled dwarf in a smith's apron shakes his head furiously.
"There's no such thing as a temporary hole."
"Sure there is. It is a hole that gets fixed up. Later."
"By who?"
"Someone who can fix wood? I am only good with metal and stone, yes."

"Then don't go offerin' to punch holes in it!"

You sigh.
You bypassed all the hard parts of this encounter- You met the dwarves, they even agreed to teach you a few things, you have free time- And now you've been held up by a literal sort of roadblock.
Specifically, the fact that you are too large for the door. It's a bit irritating, all told.

So, you focus your attention on the problem at hand- doing your best to ignore the crawling sensation on your shoulders that leaves you feeling like someone is speaking about you, somewhere.
There's a solution to this, You're sure of it. You just need to put in a bit of effort.

"Okay. What if I make a forge?"
"What?"
"What if I make a new forge. Right here, yes?"
"I don't- Can ya do that?"
"Yes?"

"Uh. Sure? I'll grab an anvil then."

He vanishes into the building muttering about spiders, and you bring your power to bear on the road.
You'll have to remember where everything was. So you can put it back. After.

Chambers form, fill with magma, heat flushes the area. A tall smokestack puffs volcanic ash overhead, and you wait beside the cheerily burning 'forge' for your teacher.
Oh, you almost forgot- A stone bucket forms, fills with water, and then you settle down.

There's scraping and swearing, and other things associated with someone dragging a brick of solid metal through a house and out the door.
The smith is sweating as he rights the anvil, pulling his hammer from a loop on his apron.

"Alright. I can- I can work with this."

______________________________________________________________

You pick up all sorts tricks as you work. Alloys and something called welding but it isn't really welding?
Forging is interesting.

The sun is dipping low, though you've got your lava lamp forge, so it isn't too much of a problem.

You're yawning, half coated in soot, and there's a rather sharp metal smell coming from everything- Whether that's from forging, or you, or your magma fountain, you aren't sure. You'll probably have to take a bath.
Good thing you built one?

"Alright- Skedaddle, kid. I can't keep this up."
"Mhm."
The dwarf puffs and wheezes and groans as he starts to drag his anvil back inside- You're tempted to tell him just to leave it. It's not like it'd be stolen.
Not successfully, anyway.

You wave a hand at your road interrupting forge, the whole thing slumping back into the ground, not even the slightest hint that it was ever there.
Except for the fact that stones are too even and flat and smooth.
But that doesn't actually matter, right? Noones going to complain about the road being too nice.
Probably.

You shuffle your butt back to the adventurers guild, waving at people giving you a thumbs up, and waving away people who are in your way. Maybe that bath can wait.

Your friends greet you when you enter the room, and you answer with a smile and a faceplant into the middle of your bedding.

But we can visit them and ask if Lyra or aunt really have no idea.

>I think we're heading back home in time to catch it.
Lyra was born somtimes in spring, which was 5 months ago. A few weeks/months ago we had a summer festival and the wake at the ruins in sometimes autum. No, its extremly unlikely we will be back in time for that, most likely we are in the elflands around that time.
>>
>>42383208
>>42383267
aw maaaan, I wanted to see the festival.
We should at least write home at some point, then.

And by home, I mean hope the adventurer's guild can find a gaggle of spiders strewn across the land with our letters.
>>
>>42383267
>we had the first one a couple months ago
>ergo we have almost a year to get back
How do you get that we won't.

Getting back in time for it is exactly the plan!
>>
>>42383483
The problem with that is that we will likely come back home somewhere next year spring/early summer and will make our journey towards the dwarven lands before autumn because we won't sit on our big spider butt for several months doing nothing.
Timing it so we arrive exactly around the time of the wake (and I'm not even sure Lyra knows thats a thing) is pretty awkward.

I mean, at some point in the future it might happen, but it all depends on how long and far Lyra travels. Probably won't be within the next few years.
>>

"The early spider gets the bear." You mutter to yourself, swimming through an ocean of sheets to find solid ground.

It's a complete lie, of course.
The saying.
You don't need to be early to get a bear. You can show up whenever you want, as long as you show up where bears are. It's more that the phrase is so ingrained, and you just used it in conjunction with your own interests as a sort of motivational- No, wait, none of this matters at all.

You can't even get bears in town apparently. What a travesty.

You haul yourself upright before long, 'enjoying' the subtle effect of six crossed eyes.
Two was disorienting enough.

You arrange your friends as best you can so they don't fall off, and head for the baths. It's sort of early. They shouldn't be that busy.

___________________________________________________________________________

You forgot that adventurers don't actually keep hours. There is no nine-to-five dungeon shift.
Or maybe there is, but everyone probably thinks that guy is a weirdo.

Laughter and voices and the sounds of water trickle through the drapes blocking each door- they skipped on the doors and opted for something more simple apparently.

You let yourself in, shucking clothes, other peoples clothes, whatever is in your way- And then you haul everyone into the water. The blessedly warm and nice water. How did people live before baths?

It was probably terrible. You're glad it's over. On their behalf.
>>
>>42384071

You dunk your head a few times, rinsing your hair clean, combing it out with your fingers and getting the soot out of it. Maybe a bandanna or a hat is in order when you're in the forge. Something, anyway.

Your friends wake one by one, slowly starting to clean themselves, or you, or each other.
Sheszka is keeping just her nose above the water, sitting lower and letting it run over her completely- Nin and Jin are happy to help scrub your shell apparently. All of it for Nin, and a particular skull socket for the harpy.

Ezzy is a lazy snake, but she starts to wake up when you scrub her. Maybe you can give her something to do.

There's a lot of things that need doing.

Well, we know OOC its not that common, because the fate goddess told us its unusual. Though Lyra IC doesn't remember that dream.

But honestly, when was the last time Lyra even thought about her past life? She has pretty much left it behind. So until something happens that makes it relevant, I say let it be. Nothing good would come out of bringing it up and its kinda hard to explain to others.

You should visit your family, you decide.
Before you burrow into a dungeon, preferably. You don't really want to return to the surface to find weeks have gone by and they've left, or something.

So you'll solve that by going now.

You know where Auris' apartment is. You've got directions, and the keen unerring spider directional sense to guide you!
You can do this.

______________________________________________________________

You couldn't do it.

Nin asked for directions though, so technically, your pride is intact. You weren't lost, you were sightseeing. That's something people do!
All the time, in fact!

Half the townsfolk are sightseeing, in fact! They keep staring at you. You are a sight, now.
You'd very much like to get inside.

Your Aunt's current temporary residence, thankfully, is far larger than the dwarves.
So can get inside.

Though if you couldn't, there'd likely have been some issues. Maybe a headline or two.
'Giant Spider Scales Homes, Hisses at Cat!'
'Monster Spider Perches on Roof, Wears Skull!'

Thinking about it, you might be a headline already.

Aunty is quick to answer the door, a few knocks all it takes before it's being pulled wide open, a grinning elf waiting inside.

"G'morning, Kiddo! Come on in!"
You step inside, careful of- Well, everything- and greet her.
"I think it is afternoon, yes?"
"Afternoon is when I say it is. It starts a few hours after I get out of bed, and definitely not before coffee."

You smile.
"No, I am thinking that it starts at midday, and ends when the sun starts to set."
"Pfft. Never. So, who're your friends?"

"The snake necklace is Esmerelda, the harpy is Jin, the wolf is Sheszka, and the moth is Nin. Don't listen to Nin."
"Hey!"
"She can't be trusted, yes."
Your aunt laughs lightly at the now frowning moth, sidestepping for a better view of your passengers.
>>
>>42385113

"You're all from the forest, right? Don't all the races live in different parts?"
"Mhm. Harpies at the edge, wolves across the river, spiders near the old city, Lamia are far into the woods, wendigo are even further."
"And the moths?"
"Moths are a secret, yes."

"Eh, that's fair. Do you want some coffee? I was having it brewed before I came down."
"Apparently coffee gets arachne drunk, yes."
"Huh. That sounds pretty fun. Is that a yes or a no?"
"I think you might be a bad influence."
"I think you mighta been doomed from the start with Erics, to be honest."

A regular-sized mantis shrimp can punch a person's finger off. Putting one up to ~human sized would make them a living tank.

Then crush it as invaders push them out of the city. Have their hometown burn, and the memories and loved ones crurmble around them. Force them to choose which fun NPC's they save as they let the other bleed out. Humiliate them, and give them a message, that all shall fall to the claw. Lol, point made. But still, if players are breeding rodents for fun, you need to start hitting them with Oh-shit moments so they spend their time accomplishing things. Fucking around isn't necisarrily bad if you are accomplishing things, or making for good characterization and story. but pants on head retarded moments need to be stopped if that isn't the type of game you want to run, and reality needs to pimp slap the a few times for dicking around instead of doing things.

"I think I will refuse the coffee, in any case."
She shrugs.
"Ah well. There's still plenty of time for that, I suppose."

Leading you through the building, you're ushered to a small pile of cushions, a comfy pseudo-chair for you on the floor.
You settle in, and your Aunt drops a pillow across from you, sitting cross legged behind a coffee table.

A literal coffee table, as there is coffee atop it.
Even the smell is doing something to you- it's probably a good idea that you skipped out.

"So!"
"So?"
"To what do I owe this most joyous visitation?"
"Um. You are my aunt, and I thought we could talk?"

"Eh? Is that it?"
"I guess if I stayed at the guild again, I might end up fighting the duke or his sister? Again. Maybe."
"Ooh. That sounds fun."
"They are both insane, yes."
"So you've got that in common, then!"

"Less sarcasm, more stories, please."
"No promises. What do you want to hear about?"
She acts less like an aunt, and more like an older sister.

Maybe it isn't strange that Dad left home.

"How about the elflands? Or Dad. Dad stories would be fun, yes."
"Alright. But I wanna hear stories back, then."
"Mhm."
She taps her lip with one finger as she thinks about something, and you take a second to scan the room.

"Let's see here... Did he tell you about when he started magic?"
"Not really? He- Um. Well, he didn't know arachne hatched and grew quite so fast. Yes."
"Oh, Gods."
"It was only a few weeks?"
"That's- That's pretty bad."

"Was he like that before?"
"Sort of? Elves are bad with time. The magic thing- He went to study, y'know? At the Firescarn itself."
"That's the fire magic thing, right? Where the elements are stronger?"
"Yeah. He kept studying there, for like, a week I think?"
"That doesn't seem too bad?"
"He didn't bring any food. And he apparently skipped sleeping for half of it."

"Ah."
"Yeah, we picked him up facedown in the dirt. And then he tried to go back the next day, and mom tied him to the bed."
"I see."
"But he figured out how to use magic, and burnt the ropes with fire."
"The ropes... on him."

"Yup."
"That seems like a bad idea."
"Haha, yeah. He torched his room. And he was a little crispy, I guess. Then mom went to guard and got manacles, so that was that for a bit."
"I do not think I was ever that bad, yes. I always ate."

"She's not mentioning the part where she eats giant monsters, and she got in trouble for fighting them."
"That was only once! It was a stupid bear. And I had to train for weeks, yes!"

Thanks for the fun run REQM! So how long until a group of heroes lead by a young prince are dungeon diving and come across Lyra and friends also dungeon diving and mistake her for the Dungeon Boss?
>>
>>42387467
Thanks for running.

Did Lyra learn about what sort of unusual metals/alloys to look out for for making new weapons?
Does Lyra know about the arachne gathering at the ruins in autumn?
>>
Good night! Thanks for running!
>>
>>42387467
Thanks for running while you could.
>>
>>42387423
You know how when Lyra drank alcohol she only got sort of half drunk? like, no hangovers, no real ill after-effects? what if when she drinks coffee, it works differently on each of her parts? like, her spider-half gets drunk, and her human-half gets hyper?
>a giant spider staggers around the room, trying to do everything

Thanks for running.

What was Nin's reaction to seeing the crown, before she kept selling the spider patches?
>>
>>42387467
also thanks for running mate.
>no captcha, a finger is not a food.
>>
>>42387467
Thanks for running boss, see you next time.
>>
>>42387467
No worries at all.
Thanks for running!

Hopefully we can headpat/Bully the bee next time.

For we are Lyra Tyrant of Headpats.
>>
>>42387489
They did!
You'll have to find the metal on your own, though.

>>42387494
You can ask, if you like.

>>42387510
Probably five minutes into the first attempt?

>>42387512
She did, and she doesn't.
She promised to try and be back for winter, not autumn.

>>42387527
>>42387530
Thanks for playing!

Just read some of the pastebin stuff, and it occurred to me: can Lann fly if she does her ranger thing with a harpy? Because that sounds hilariously OP. Also thanks for running!
>>
>>42387667
>try to be back for winter
I can deal with that.
We show off by making an amazing snow-arachne while they are all making boring snow-men.

snow arachnes don't work well
>>
>>42387467
thanks again for running.

can we get a character sheet update?
>>
>>42387548
I was planning to differentiate them! You'll have to wait and see.

>>42387552
Thanks for playing!
Nin was exceptionally pleased to see you wearing it and fighting rulers.

Maybe not snow, what about ice?

We *might* be back in time for Spider gathering, as once we visit elf's, we need to re-kidnap our elf to go on adventurers with us. Her elf-fangs came in after all.
>>
Anybody got a picture of the world map to hand? I need it for reasons
>>
>>42387767
I was planning on cheating by just making a large orb and carving legs onto the outside of it.
>>
>>42387703
Probably, but she'd replace her arms. It'd be hard for her to use a bow.

>>42387750
I'll try!
>>
>>42387817
Thanks for running

Sheszka can make good ice, yes

If people are a bit leery about the effects of hot coffee, we could try the much weaker hot chocolate.
Still has caffeine, but waaaay less.
>>
>>42388305
The scale might be larger than you think, and I'm sure there are other continents.
>>
>>42388338
We need someone to find the older map which had like I think two or three other land masses/Islands.
>>
>>42388382
Man that brings back memories.

>Probably, but she'd replace her arms. It'd be hard for her to use a bow.
