You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are hellborn – part mortal, part demon. After traveling coast to coast on the ultimate road trip with your friends to establish yourself as a landmaster, you have reached New York.

You’re not in town for cheesy souvenirs and sweet photo ops though. You’re here for your dad’s old stuff, sequestered within an old mirror in a nondescript storage unit in a shady part of town.

--

You crouch for a moment over your discovery. “Cool,” you say, carefully taking the immaculate black officer’s hat in your hands. It smells of old leather and gunmetal, both good smells. You blow the dust off the top, and slip on top of your own head, smiling broadly as you go back into the stash to see what else you can find.

With all the care you can muster, you pull out a long leather overcoat, black and shiny. It looks well taken care of, if untouched for a long time. There’s a couple nicks in the leather, carefully sewn shut from where it might’ve been torn or punctured.

Without another thought, you swing it over your own shoulders and slip your arms down the sleeves. It’s a pretty warm coat, you guess, if heavy. And it’s kind of loose on you. You up the belt and buckle it up before going back to the other treasures.

There’s more clothes, but you’re more interested in the guns now that you’re suited up. You pick up a rifle wrapped in brown paper, tied with string, and carefully undo the knots. A little leather case falls out as you loose the casing, but you catch it with one tendril before it hits the floor. Popping it open you find an antique optical scope.
>>
>>42358094

You hold the scope and its case in a couple tendrils while you finish unwrapping the rifle.

A smooth, gleaming stock meets your eye. Along the way you meet a few magazines, tied neatly together with another string. These you take in your other tendrils while you continue your exploration. Finishing un-mothballing the rifle, you’re not really sure what kind of gun it is, except that it’s kickass. It looks like a rifle, but the ammunition feed is on the side, and with the bipod mounted under the barrel it looks kind of like a machine gun too. And then there’s the thing where your dad apparently used this thing with a scope?

You’re almost too interested in the gun part to feel the soft but intensifying hum of power from the weapon. Like it knows it’s being handled. You have a closer look at the rifle, this time looking more for weird things than cool things. That’s when you notice the subtle script scrawled over the stock and etched into the barrel. You can’t decipher any of the runes – they’re not Latin letters, and they’re not Heltic script.

You’ll have time to figure it out later. This guy’s coming with you. Pretty much all this crap’s coming with you, actually.

You carefully set the gun down on the desk, and head back to rifle through your dad’s secret Nazi trunk. You come across some more guns. There’s a holster with a pistol that’s not exactly a Luger, and then there’s a bolt action rifle that’s not really a match for the K-98 that’s in the family gun collection. The rifle feels really old though. It’s giving you that kind of vibe. It’s also giving you some other subtle magicky kind of vibes, but again, this isn’t really the place to delve into that.

You set the guns aside and continue through the trunk, finding a wood box with a bunch of medals in it, and a couple framed black and white photographs. You pick one up and have a look.

You see your dad. He’s right on the side of the photo, not quite in focus.
>>
>>42358107

He’s all Nazi’d up with a whole gaggle of his Nazi friends, out on some street somewhere. The photo quality isn’t that good – it looks like the shot was taken at night, by the looks of the darkness infringing on the corners of the photo.

Then you realize that everybody’s faces have all been burned out, except your dad’s. He has a kind of severity to him, staring at whoever took the photo. He looks younger than you remember him looking, which you guess makes sense if it was years and years ago.

The two people closest to him are turned a little his way, like they were in a group. The first one is a wiry kind of guy with an unkempt uniform, jacket open, shirt only halfway buttoned up. His face has been burned away with some relish, leaving a gaping hole where his whole head should be. The second is a light-haired woman wearing a military uniform with a skirt, looking pretty hot. You know, except the missing face thing. Kind of creepy.

They’ve all got the swastika armband things of course. But turning again to the mess you’ve got yourself into, you realize that you’re missing your swastika armband thing. You didn’t find any in the trunk. You get the feeling your dad didn’t hold onto it. You guess that’s okay though, because wearing it out with your other finds might not be so politically correct.

You take one last look at everything you’ve found. Journals, landmaster notes, weapons, Nazi paraphernalia. And that’s not even counting the photos and stuff from the storage unit. That’s a lot of stuff you’re not leaving behind.

--

You pop outside, decked out in German war material in front of your friends.

Ro, Vik, and Moriah stare at you, wide eyed. Xan yawns and gets back on her feet.

Shut up, lawn.
>>
“Check it,” you say to your gawking friends, executing a perfect 360 degree fashion spin, striking a sexy cool pose at the end. “Couldn’t find the swastika armbands, but on a scale of one to racially pure, how do I look?”

“I don’t know if I should be impressed or offended,” says Vikrama.

“That good, huh?” you ask, adjusting the coat a little. It doesn’t fit you too well. It’s too baggy. But it is real leather, so that counts for something.

“Should you really be wearing that?” asks Rowan, glancing behind her to check for uninvited observers.

“C’mon. It’s cool,” you say, jabbing her in the side with your elbow.

Xanissil looks down her nose at you. “You are too small for such a coat as yours.”

You scoff. “Whatever. My dad’s Nazi stuff is kickass. You’re just jealous.”

“Naturally,” Xan says flatly, “any objection I voice stems from inborn jealousy.”

“That’s the spirit,” you say, now jabbing her in the side with your elbow. You leave Xan be for a moment, and do your best to look disappointed. “So I didn’t find the gold.” Then you pause. “Wait. I have to work on my German accent. Vhere ist ze German gold?”

“If David brought gold with him, I think he would have used it years ago,” Moriah says. “You can find out where gold comes from. I wouldn’t want to hold on to proof of who used to pay me if I was starting over.”

You wag a finger at her. “That’s not the spirit. We need optimism if we’re going to find this gold, not excuses.”

Moriah cracks a smile. “You’re chipper.”

“No duh,” you say, gesturing down at yourself. “This is the jackpot.”

Rowan smiles too. “I’m glad we found your dad’s things,” she says. “I was worried we’d get here and wouldn’t find anything.”

You snort. “Funny, because I remember you being pretty sure we’d find this the whole time,” you say.

“I though you could do without the negativity for two seconds,” she replies. “And yeah. It paid off, so hey.”
>>
>>42359883

Vikrama is still judging your uniform, unsure if she should approve or not. “Did you find anything in there besides clothes?” she asks, circling around you.

“Yep,” you say, grinning. “Found some journals. Or like. I found a lot of journals.” You give Moriah a knowing look. “Too bad I can’t read German.”

Moriah keeps a neutral expression, but you can feel the fire lighting inside her. “Your father kept a journal?”

You nod. “Whole bookshelf full. Pictures and drawings and everything, too.” She’ll bite. Moriah likes history.

And she does bite. “I could help translate them for you,” she says quietly.

“Hell yes,” you say, smiling even more. “Okay. So, there’s some other stuff I need to get too. I know Kennith the security guy doesn’t want us rolling the SUV in here, so if you can just park up next to the back?” You jerk a thumb at the narrow street behind the storage unit. “I can haul everything out through the wall.”

“Will do,” says Rowan.

“I shall stay and keep watch here,” Xan says, folding her arms.

“Let’s do it,” Vikrama says, whistling for Reeber to come along. You give Reeber an approving, and he sets off with the car group. Moriah goes along too, without a word.

You head back inside, summoning Tiger to simplify some of the legwork of carrying stuff out. It takes a little bit to organize all the papers enough so you can shove them into a backpack, but the journals you just have to take by the armful.
>>
>>42359901

You and Rowan work on shoving the last haul into the back of the SUV. It’s going to be kind of cramped on the drive back west with all your dad’s crap, but it’s a price worth paying.

As you’re working on the side the road by the storage facility’s chain link fence, you get the distinct impression that somebody’s watching you. “Hold up,” you tell Rowan, setting down the metal box with all your family pictures in it to look around for the source.

A man and a woman walk up the street toward the SUV. The man wears a gray jacket with a face-obscuring hood, and carries a well-worn backpack over one shoulder. He has a strong build – you can tell even from distance. He also walks off center, keeping weight off his right leg.

The lady, meanwhile, is almost as thin as you are, but she has fire red hair pulled into a ponytail and an epidemic of freckles. She wears a orange windbreaker zipped up to the neck and a pair of workout-style yoga pants.

They walk with real purpose toward you, though they’re not close enough to get a bead on how magical or angry they might be.

Your danger ring begins to buzz, not too violently, but slowly intensifying.

Rowan watches their approach. “Marshals, maybe,” she tells you in a hushed tone.

Uh oh. At least you packed the coat and hat away again. (+5 Stress: 35)

“I’ll see what they want,” says Rowan, stepping away from the car.

“Danger ring’s buzzing,” you tell her.

Ro pauses.

“I’ll finish loading up, just play it cool,” you say.

“If things get dicey, tell Vik to drive off,” Ro tells you, wiping the rain from her brow before heading off to meet the strangers.

You go into overtime, hauling the trunk into the car. “There’s trouble,” you say into the cabin.

Moriah peers over the luggage stuffed into the back of the SUV, getting an eye on Rowan’s new friends. “The man is an Anchirist. He’s not even wearing glamors,” she says. “The woman I’m not sure about, but she has power.”

You give the trunk one last shove, getting it securely in the back. “How much power?”

“Not much compared to you, but that could mean anything,” says Mori. She turns around. “Vikrama, be ready to hit the gas.”

“Aye aye?” says Vik, sounding unsure.

You look more carefully at the back, and realize somebody’s missing. “Where’s Xan?”

“She’s still inside on lookout,” Moriah says. “She’ll be out in a second when we hit the horn.” She suddenly points past you. “Sierra, I think Rowan’s in trouble.”
>>
>>42360996

You look behind you. Rowan’s currently backing away from the hooded man, who’s now waving around a flintlock pistol. He’s yelling something about Nazi war criminals, while his red-headed companion keeps pace at his side, hands low and at her sides. Definitely not so good.

You check yourself. You’ve got your handgun tucked into waistband of your jeans behind your back under your jacket, and you’ve got your shield bracelet good to go, but you’re lacking serious firepower. You can see some of your weapons sticking out from the junk in the back.

Unnatural Charm might help. Try to deescalate the situation, none of us are the Nazis they are looking for. We're just passing through.

If they're going to start a fight hit one of them with Inflict Pain, and set the other on fire.

It's not really mindfucking, it just picks up vibes and Sierra acts in a way that accomplishes her goal, nothing invasive about it.

One of them might still notice if they're familiar with Belphs, but it's reasonably subtle.
>>
>>42361733
Except it isn't mindfucking, its reading others.

>Sierra may supernaturally identify with those around her, picking up on emotions and thought-vibes, and instinctively act and speak in such a way that will impress them and help her in accomplishing her own ends.

Only way for them to know she did something like that is if she says something she would not have no reason to say.
>>
Something to keep in mind-If we show them our powers, then Rowan should stay hidden, and vice-versa, just in case these people know a certain Aunt who i'd rather not come asking questions.
>>
You grab Zelathis’s sheathe out from the junk and pat the frame of the car. “Drive around the block, come out by the front – we’ll meet you there and jump in.”

Vikrama rubbernecks to look back at you. “Wait, what?”

Moriah nods. “Okay.”

You leave the car and walk back toward Rowan through the rain. You hear the engine start and the wheels splash on the street as they drive off, but you keep your eyes focused on the tousle between Rowan and the two people pestering her.

“Hold it right there,” says windbreaker lady, fixing her eyes on you and slightly raising one hand. A light but discomforting aura of energy radiates from her. You get the impression she’s a lot tougher than the average mortal. (Windbreaker: 25 PP, 20 HP)

Rowan also holds a hand out at you, though she keeps her attention focused on the guy with the hood. “They’re not bad,” she tells you. “Don’t hurt them.”

The hooded angel guy, meanwhile, draws back the hammer on his flintlock, though doesn’t quite point it at anybody yet. You can feel the bottled up anger and tension from him. His sidekick redhead is much more composed by comparison. He’s more powerful, though. The magic you feel from him kind of reminds you of Isaac’s, though it’s a less solid, more transparent kind of magic. You don’t know what it means, but he’s no lightweight. (Hood: 30 HP, 31 PP)

You decide not to try to get all Belphegoran analytical on them, because they might be wise to that kind of trickery. “We’re kind of in the wrong age bracket to be Nazis,” you say, ready to draw Zelathis at an instant’s notice.

“We’re not doing anything wrong,” says Rowan. “You have to let us go.”

“That storage unit is secured by some of the strongest black magic I’ve ever seen,” says the red head, her eyes narrowing as she keeps both you and Rowan in her sight, “and you waltzed in and out like you had the key. You understand how that raises certain questions.”
>>
>>42362616

The hooded angel speaks, his voice coming from everywhere and nowhere. “Assisting Nazi fugitives is a federal offense,” he says, his finger just slightly to the side of the trigger of his weapon. “Where is he hiding?”

But while he’s talking, the red head has taken an even keener interest in you. She squints incredulously at your aura with increasing uncertainty, maybe beginning to get a read on how much power you’re packing down.

Ro glances at you out of the corner of her eye. It’s almost the go signal. Well, maybe it is the go signal. You guess when she said don’t hurt them, she meant don’t kill them.

>A signal’s a signal. (Go time (?))
>Hold off, you can use your words.

Everybody seems to think nazi dad is still alive, I don't like the idea of spreading word around that he's dead. If landmaster gossip picks up on it, we might get people moving into the west coast. At the same time, we don't want to bring increased scrutiny on Isaac by linking him to this, so giving them our names or calling Cassandra is out. So...

You’re not desperate yet. If there’s anything you’ve learned recently, it’s that words solve problems just almost as often as violence does. You turn down Rowan’s go signal with a slight shake of your head, and focus instead on your main target – hoodius angelcus.

“Look, I found out some dead relative had some stuff I had to pick up,” you say, tightening your grip on Zelathis. “I’m not a girl scout or whatever, but I’m probably more American than you people. Now I’m going to need to see some ID, unless you want me to call the cops.”

“Good luck, we are the cops,” says the woman, sternly.

The man in the hood thinks for a moment. He looks at you, though you somehow still can’t see any of his face. “That may be what you think you’re doing,” he says, relaxing just slightly, “but everything in that storage unit could be laced with powerful black magic. The man who owns that unit might not even be dead. He could be using you.”

The woman looks cautiously at you. “Just have that SUV come back here, we’ll look it over to see what’s dangerous and take care of it. If you’re not doing anything wrong, you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

You know how this works. They’ll just have a look, but really they’ll confiscate everything that’s even remotely cool.

“Maybe I should call...” you trail off when Rowan gives you a look. She doesn’t want you to call Cass or Isaac? There’s probably a reason for that. Maybe it’s not a good idea to be connected with this whole situation. Which probably also means names are not on the table. While there’s too many Rowans and Sierras around to count, there’s probably a lot less that are associated with Marshals and US arcane governance.

“Go ahead and call the SUV. Bring them back here,” says the guy, watching you from beneath his hood.

Because I think that when we get back we should hand those out in front of our close allies to show that we not only have personal power, but the ability AND the will to grant it to others.

We should give one to each of our biggest supporters. Rowan already represents the Hallows. I think Ranthix next (because fucking Ranthix) and we can make it a thank you to our teacher as well as repayment of the power within us he's unlocked. The second? Now, hear me out, but I think that it should be Wally. Dudes our public face, him having more power is not a bad thing. “Yeah, that’s not happening,” you say, getting traction on how to get out of this mess. “I have no proof you guys are who you say you are. No IDs, no warrants, nothing. I got a B- in civics and even I know my Fourth Amendment rights. Suck it.”

The woman shakes her head and reaches into her jacket, then pulls out a necklace badge thing. It bears a fancy looking shield on a golden Eagle, but looks more like something you’d expect a sheriff to wear in a frontier town. “We’re Marshals with DoE,” she says. “We have the right to seize property we deem dangerous.”

“Your rights don’t invalidate the constitution,” says Rowan, standing up a little straighter. “Where is your warrant?”

“We don’t need a warrant, stated under the Extraordinary Threats Act,” she replies.

“Seriously?” says Rowan. “You think that storage shed is a threat to national security?”

“Beckhoff is a member of the SS and the Hammer of Gods Society, two criminal organizations under international law,” says the hooded man. “That means yes.”

“And yet it’s been seventy years and nobody’s taken the time to crack open his commercial storage unit,” Ro says, skeptically. “Sounds like you couldn’t get a warrant.”

That’s all you need to hear. “Listen, we’re not a couple teenagers who you can intimidate and push around. Whatever’s in that SUV is my private property. That’s the law. You don’t have crap. Don’t act like you do,” you say. You smile sharply at the redheaded woman. “And you, ginger lady. Come on. You know you can’t take us in a fight. Tell your Anchirist buddy that.”

“Is that a threat?” says the woman, glowering at you.

The other angel keeps his gun carefully to the side, but makes no sudden movements.

You shrug. “We’re not doing anything wrong, and you can’t stop us from leaving. We’re going to walk away. You do whatever it is you think you have to do, but we’re entitled to self-defense. We’re done here.” You wave for Rowan, and you walk off without wasting another minute.

Ro comes with you. “Keep walking,” she whispers, hyped up on tension.

You do just that, trying to be confident, but the buzzing in your danger ring is hardly reassuring.

You make it ten feet. Then you make it twenty feet. And then you get to the road, and the SUV pulls up without quite stopping. You and Rowan leap in.

You’re about to pull the door shut, but Xanissil leaps in after both of you, doing that job for you. “Drive!” she shouts.

Vik puts on the gas. She’s getting a lot of practice with that.

The return trip looks easy now that you’ve got this far out and managed to avoid getting into too many hairy situations. It’s just a matter of getting back to your roots and making the best use of your time possible.

Moriah seems pretty excited to start reading through your dad’s journals, and you’ve got two enchanted guns, a spear, a sword, and a weird black orb to figure out, on top of trying to wrap your head around your new powers and finding more wells.

You’ll have to watch yourself, though. There’s still a lot about landmastery you’re not sure of, and your trip has you going back through Ossifera’s territory. You’ll have to be careful not to pop up too much on her radar if you know what’s good for you.

White Phosphorous is a war crime. Of course, in that case you have to actually use it in a war.

Red Phosphorous is used for smoke grenades, and is non-toxic and significantly less flammeable. Essentially we would be using it for off-label use.

Still, it's not recommended to stay in the smoke for more than 15 minutes.

> Sierra pops smoke. She is now unseen and "shaded" from direct light allowing Verwalken shenanigans.

> Also fucks up heat vision and smell

> Smoke starts to dissipate, suddenly everything is on fire.

I see potential. It's not very team friendly though. Also I doubt Sierra would know about it unless she saw youtube videos of pepperspray and shit getting lit on fire.

That may have been true forever ago when we didn't have several conditional "when nobody can see you" powers, but now it has mad synergy even at a base level.

You’re pretty much ready for anything by the time you leave New York. You’ve visited your family’s grave, outrun fish people, learned Starspawn secrets, dealt with dragons, respected native spirit lands, and finally got your claws on a bunch of your dead Nazi dad’s cache of black magic weapons and dark secrets. You are not easily impressed, but in this case you are. Also maybe you’re not too hard to impress.

Anyway, all the way to Vegas you go out of your way in the search for more landwells. You get more and more ideas the further and further you explore, and you get the feeling all the wells you’ve claimed are just a drop in the ocean.

There could easily be hundreds of landmasters all around the US alone, none knowing anything about the others even if they’re next door neighbors. The world’s just so big. Still, you claim your part of it. While you find more wells besides, some of those are claimed, and some territories turn out to not be stuff you want to deal with. Feuding landmasters and angry native peoples just don’t’ seem like people you want to nail yourself to.

There’s more places you’d like to explore, but for logistical reasons, you’re kind of limited to the path and roads that head back home. Still gives you a good spread, though.

You pick up wells in places like the Black Moshannon State Park in Pennsylvania, or the wildlife management area outside of Iowa City. You thought maybe you were a little bit encroaching on Ossifera’s territory, but you get the feeling maybe she’s not as big a deal as she thinks she is. You can drop the well later if it’s a problem. You find a no-strings-attached well in Colorado, in the mountains of Grand Mesa National Forest, with great well-development potential in the surrounding territory.
>>
>>42369056

Coming up on Vegas, you take the grand tour of Zion National Park and come away with a well within walking distance of a convenient campground. You’re sure there’s at least a dozen wells around there, but talking with the others convinces you that it might be a better idea to lay low. If you can figure out there’s a well there, likely somebody else beat you to the punch.

You had hoped you could swing by the Lake Superior well one more time, but neither you nor Moriah have the information necessary to actually do any research. You’ll have to content yourself with teleporting back to Pennsylvania or Iowa City when you want to head back. Maybe you can take your motorcycle with you when you do. It would make things easier.

Anyway, numbers might be lacking, but you have good positioning. And really, not everything’s about power. Some days are just about having a good time and goofing off with your sisterhood of badasses.

You get Xan to teach you, Vik, and Rowan all the choicest swears in Heltic, carefully doing so behind Mori’s back. She thinks it’s immature, but sometimes you have to be unafraid of immature things. That’s the sign of true adulthoodness. And you’re not afraid to prove how much of an adult you can be now that you’re seriously 18 for reals now.

You gain an excellent collection of lame baseball caps from Podunk gas station towns the whole country over, each proudly bearing names like Edgarsville or Aaron County Fire Department. While shopping for dumb souvenirs, you also remain mindful of your promise to Isaac to bombard him and Cass with an unending tide of obscure postcards, where you describe your intent to maybe begin a serious baseball hat collection. Not that you’d wear them non-ironically. You’re much too clever for that.

Along the way, you shuttle the bulk of your dad’s things to San Francisco through the miracle of land master magic, entrusting them to Ranthix to hide away until a more profitable time.
>>
>>42369089
Suprised we didn't hand deliver some of the post cards as a laugh
>>
>>42369089

Namely a time where you don’t live out of a rental car. You keep a few things, though. Stuff that you can’t do without, even for a week. Like a few journals for Moriah to go through, and all the mystery weapons. And maybe also the coat and your dad’s SS hat.

When you’re not blowing your merc blood money on good and bad diners and local BBQ places, or getting stupid pictures at local landmarks, you’re out in the wilderness or in parks, searching for wells and working to figure out your new magic things and your rapidly evolving powers.

Like your wings. Wings are a power, kind of. And the fact is that you can actually fly. Or at least glide. And all you need is to start on top of a cliff and wait for the sun to go down. Flying is pretty badass. In fact it’s even more badass than turning into a shadow. But it would be more badass if you could gain altitude under your own power. Stretching your shadow-self over your wings to serve as a membrane works – you’ve proved the concept. But you’re nowhere near as bird-like (or bat-like) as Rowan. She makes it look easy. Stupid feathers.

You’d like to see what your dad could do, back in his heyday. And you’re sure it’s all in his journals. Unfortunately, from what Moriah tells you, your dad wrote his journals not only in German, but in German code. It’s not complex code, but it does make translating stuff slower. And without all her computer and everything, the going is very slow indeed.

You do get a couple little stories though, written by your dad. All ancient stuff from the 20’s. Your dad pretty much took care of his mom with his time. He slept in the day, worked at night. And from the sound of things, he went to great lengths to avoid daylight. He didn’t have too many friends or do much else, really. You don’t think he even knew he was a landmaster back then. No family. No free time. But he did at least have a job, which he wrote a lot about being thankful for.
>>
>>42369089
>Not that you’d wear them non-ironically. You’re much too clever for that.
sierra no stop you're becoming a hipsters
>>
>>42369139

He worked in a camera factory, keeping records in the night. And kind of creepy, but he seemed to use his hellborn powers a lot just for creeping on people. Just observing random people or following them around. Lots of observations. You guess living in a basement during the day will do that to a person. You’re glad you’re immune to the sun’s rays, because that would suck.

You wish you could just read the journals on your own. Nobody’d stop you if you could. Moriah said she’d type her translations up for you. She’s really into the whole historic angle and getting to know eye-witness stuff. Hopefully things don’t get too wild when she gets to the Nazi years. Well. Maybe they will get wild, but hopefully Moriah can handle it. She’s probably solid enough for it.

As for the weapons, you had everybody have a look on them. Xan guessed it was a Verwelken script, but she could be wrong. Moriah couldn’t figure out anything by looking at them, but she thinks she’ll be able to pick it out when she reads more of your dad’s journals. He has snippets of magic stuff in there, and he might have notes about what’s with his guns.

The curved, red-jeweled sword though is pretty straightforward. Apparently it’s got some heavy duty pain magic on it. Like. There’s a construct in the jewel on the pommel that eats pain. Like, the more pain the sword inflicts, the stronger the spirit construct gets. And then, you know, you can unleash the spirit and have it ruin everybody’s day. Xan’s seen weapons like it used by Belphegoran nobles and knights. Apparently before big battles they ride around slicing up random scumborn peasants to top off their pain batteries.

As for the plain spear, nobody can tell much at all. In fact, it’s kind of hard to tell anything, because you can’t seem to stop misplacing it. Every time you go to get it, you can’t find it for like thirty minutes.
>>
>>42369170

And you swear, sometimes you put it down one place, and then lose it, only to find it right where you left it. Except it stopped being there for a little while. There’s definitely, definitely some kind of BS magic on the thing. Your dad wouldn’t have had it in his wonder locker of armaments unless he used it to kick ass.

The black sphere thing though, Moriah and Xan both know what that is. It’s a Flustirin. Or a dark oracle. They’re pretty high grade magic things. You’re supposed to be able to ask it any question about someone and it tells you about them, just like that. Mori said you should consider just getting rid of it. They’re supposed to bring misfortune or something if you use them wrong. Xan says if you could figure out how to use it right, it’d be pretty helpful, at least for small stuff. Like Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak. Except, you know, not.

Either way, in demons with a Luistere have a way of vanishing mysteriously or going insane after a while. But hey, you’re part Verwelken, so maybe you can get away with using it. Vanishing mysteriously and going insane are both things people thought would happen to you, and neither did. So there’s that.

You also make a point of getting somewhere isolated where you can give Vikrama her boon. Things happened. She’s got a lot more power, for one. But the cool thing is that she can make her eyes glow blue now. You’re not so sure what’s up with that, but she thinks it’s cool, so you’re cool with it. She hardly goes ten minutes without animating something, raving on and on about how easy it is now. She even animated a doodle you did of Reeber. Now there’s a little pencil-drawn Reeber running around in the pages of your pocket notebook. It’s a nice touch, especially considering she’s the one that gave you the notebook to begin with.

The door opens and shuts, waking you up. But that doesn’t mean you roll over. You remain facedown on the bed, feeling way spaced out.

That's pretty metal.

That’s what she said. Except you can’t muster the strength, and you wind up groaning incoherently instead of saying something clever.

“Come on, Sierra. It’s noon. Last leg. We made it this far, you can do this,” says Rowan.

“But last night was supposed to be forever,” you lament, squeezing your eyes shut even more.

“I told you this would happen,” says Rowan, her voice rattling in your skull. “I said so.”

“Quit yelling,” you mutter, trying to fold the pillow over your head. But your horns are getting in the way. Ugh. Who knew shots with Xanissil would turn out badly. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It’s been a while since you’ve had an over 21 year old friend who could buy alcohol for you.

“You can sleep it off in the car,” Ro continues, mercilessly.

No way you can move right now, not without throwing up or getting a migraine or both. “I happened in Vegas, so I uh... you know. I stay in Vegas.”

Rowan smashes another pillow on you, but you’re immune to pillow antics. “Don’t be like that. This isn’t the last trip we’re ever going to go on. Let’s finish strong so we can start planning the next big thing,” she tells you, almost instructively.

“How about I’ll find a well someplace and meet you in California, alright?” you reason, keeping yourself in darkness.

“I did all my gambling last night,” says Ro. “You’re coming with me. Come on, open your eyes, rise and shine. Don’t make me get the parentals on the phone. Or worse, don’t make me get Xanissil and drag you down in your PJs.”

>Ugh. Shut up. I’m coming, geeze.

Partying hard in Vegas (and maybe all those landwells) has intensified your demonic powers. Choose one selection from each of the following categories.

-Infernus-
Infernal Frenzy
>When you’re close to losing control, power of terrible proportions floods your body, lending you incredible strength. (When Stress is 70 or greater, your strength is doubled)
Hastened Regeneration
>Nothing can keep you down. You heal faster than ever before, recovering from wounds even in the midst of combat. (Turn 4 PP into 1 HP per combat round)
Strength of Will
>You may expend power to increase strength, converting magical power into pure physical might.

-Verwelken-
Translucency
>You can allow light to pass through you for a short period of time, making you transparent. (1 PP/ sec when moving, 0.5 PP/second when still)
Ephemeral Eye
>You can quicken your reflexes beyond what they are already, going into a heightened state in which you can act faster than the speed of thought. (8 PP, give significant bonus to reflexes for a couple seconds)
Intransience
>You can become much more difficult to move than you should be. When this power is active, you may expend PP to resist a force that would otherwise force her to change position. This only applies when an outside force is applied to your person. (Scaling PP cost)

Sap Strength
>Sap physical strength from the target, greatly hindering physical abilities. (Moderate cost, close range, debuff)
Cloud Thought
>Confuse target, making coherent thought much more difficult than usual and temporarily limiting cognitive skills. (Moderate cost, medium range, debuff)
Spell Eater
>Parry incoming magic, negating its effects entirely. (Arcane defense, Cost: ~ varies on spell being countered. Only partial cost if unsuccessful.)
Curse of Agony
>Instill pure suffering into a target, causing them to take increased damage from all sources and suffer severe penalties on all rolls. Any movement or action causes debilitating, agonizing pain. Incite Rage
>Drabble up unthinking range in nearby hearts, blinding minds and inciting violence . (Cost: 5 PP, +5 Stress)
Taste Fear
>You can now taste terror just as much as you can feel it. You are able to track by feelings of fear just as well as you can blood. (Passive)
Shadowflame
>Convert your normal fire to shadowflame, which generates heat by consuming power instead of oxygen. Light will quell or extinguish the flames. (Drains PP as long as shadowflames burn, increasing draw with size of flames. Shadowflames extinguish when Sierra wills them to, or when she leaves the area.)
Maelfire
>Convert your normal fire to pure suffering. Maelfire catches light on any entity capable of experiencing pain, with a chance to spread to new targets on contact. (Maelfire burns as long as targets are conscious.)
Shock Tendrils
>Your shadow-self now conducts and emits electricity, and serves as an insulator against electrocution when dark.

Venomous Fangs -> Paralytic Venom
>Add alternative, nonlethal venom.
Venomous Fangs -> Psychotropic Venom
>Add alternative, crazy venom.

> While in battle, tasting fresh blood sends you into a frenzy, making you faster, stronger, and more violent than before. (Gain bonus to damage and physical checks for one round after imbibing blood)

I never really consider Zelathis to be a ranged weapon. The lightning is intimidating but it's not actually strong enough to kill a healthy mortal. You're better off with a handgun. Ok, since nobody's brought it up, where the fuck does the electricity come from in the Shock Tendrils? The combos for every other mix power has been really obvious and while it's easy to see that Shock Tendrils is VE with something else, neither BE or IN does anything with electricity.

>Shadowing Hex
BE+VE
>Incite Rage
>BE+IN
>Taste Fear

>Shadowflame

>Shock Tendrils
VE+??

Could this mean that Sierra's human magic affinity is for lightning? That'd be pretty cool if it was. It'd also make sense for the HU to bond with VE before it does with IN or BE since we got our human blood from dad and he was part VE.

Only other thing I can think of is that the VE is somehow latching onto IN electricity resistance (Chitin Plates like what Ranthix has give massive electricity resist) and inverting it somehow, but that's a bit goofy.
>>
>>42371069
Or grab their sword and then stab them
>>
>>42371376
lightning fits with Landmaster, and Infernus powers
>>
>>42371403
Not really.

Landmaster magic isn't a thing in the same way other things are things. It latches onto what a being already has and enhances it and gives it an additional avenue of manifestation in the form of summons. The closest thing to a landmaster theme in the same way demon types have a theme is the dimensional fuckery and raw magic manipulation using the wells.

Inferni don't do lightning. The closest they have is, as I said, resistance to it in the form of their natural armor. They don't generate it. Their magic is all about blood, fire, rage, and physical might. It could be a VE+IN thing, and that's what I'd bet on 100% if it was only resistance, but the electricity generation makes it weird.

Pain is transmitted by the nervous system by electrical impulses, so I was thinking that it could a Belph+Verwelken combo. We did get Zelathis the Lightning Sword from a Belphegoran, which also leads me to think that it could be related to that part of the bloodline.

But in all honesty, I've got no idea other than baseless speculation. Guess we'll find out if we pick it up as an ability.

You really can't speculate a race's abilities based on what some of their gear does. We already know that nobles in Halth love to hire Hellions to be court wizards for them. Someone coulda just paid/threatened a Hellion into making it.
The only other demonic lightning weapon we've seen was Meckor's trident, and he was a Hellion/Infernus mix.

For a more extreme example, it's not even uncommon for demons to fight eachother with stolen angel weapons since they're so effective against demons. Sierra even has that blatantly angelic chainmail, and I don't think anyone would try to claim that glowing shields and positive energy were in her repertoire.

There's also the part about how Zelathis is designed such that it's easier to wield with claws, and Belphegorans have hands like a human.
>>
>>42371544
>She gets freaked out by hugs.
It isn't uncommon for people like that to be into bondage. If they tie someone up, they are touching the other person, not getting touched.

It works even if they aren't into doming.
