In an effort to gather opinions and feedback about my quest, Become The Dragon Quest, here is a thread about it.

>What is Become The Dragon Quest?
A quest about a young woman named Kotijah. She wants to be a dragon. Shenanigans ensue. It's set in a medieval fantasy world that, so far, has no elves in it.

>What is this thread for?
I've got some questions for the readers (and potential readers!) and I want to hear from them in return. Hopefully the mods won't delete the thread since it's about a quest and is therefore... kind of... on topic? Fingers crossed!

>Alright, so what do you want to know?
Glad you asked!

>What do you like most about the quest?
>What do you like least?
>What do you want to see more of?
>Who is your favorite cast member so far?
>What can I, the author, do better?
>If you're not a reader but enjoy other quests, what are some things you enjoy about those quests?

Feel free to fire at will with questions and comments of your own. I will answer all that I can.

I am not familiar with any of these quests or anything related at all;I just started browsing /tg/ recently as I want to get back into 40k, and haven't done or watched any roleplaying games or anything similar to this. How are these done? Do you have a whole overarching story planned out? What inspired you? I am really loving this so far and started reading on #3, the amount of refreshing I do is getting to the point of worrying myself over.

Since I have nothing as a baseline, I don't really have much feedback, other than just I like the world you have made, and I really love the idea of the "become the dragon" I guess.

This probably sounds stupid/sappy as shit, but yeah, there it is.
>>
>>42343494
I'm glad to have entertained you thus far. I'll do my best to answer your questions.

>How are these done?
It's like a choose your own adventure book, only with voting and dice. From my own experience, quests tend to be like Everyone Is John, except focused on one or two goals rather than being a competition.

>Do you have a whole overarching story planned out?
I have winged this from the first post onwards. Everything is ad libbed and off the cuff.

>What inspired you?
I have a Pathfinder character named Kotijah. She's a barbarian who believes she's descended from dragons and wants to prove she's as strong as they are. I took some of the basic elements from that and wove them into a quest prompt. I didn't realize until after chargen that the readers were making basically the same character, just without the vaguely Russian accent.

Thank you again for your feedback!

>I have winged this from the first post onwards. Everything is ad libbed and off the cuff.

I completely expect you to have at least some plan, thats impressive, its been great.

Since the entire story isn't planned out, is there the potential for an early death/incomplete quest? Or is there generally enough cushion to prevent that on your end?
>>
>>42343838
It's entirely possible for this quest to Game Over. There are some story holes I won't be able to dig people out of if they make bad decisions and the dice hate them. But I sincerely doubt that people will try to steal the crown jewels of the kingdom wearing only a leather thong and bringing no backup.

Put another way, I want to see this quest succeed, but I'd rather the story flow naturally to whatever end awaits than twist the narrative to get the ending I want. If I wanted to write a linear story where I can decide how things end, I'd write a novel.

Alright, I like that, Thanks for the answers
>>
>>42344002
No problem. Thank you for reading.
>>
>What do you like most about the quest?
The idea of turning into a dragon. Its an idea ive acually gone over quite a few times since i was a child. To see a quest based off a concept i came up with so long ago is amazing.
>What do you like least?
Really hard question... I cant think of anything righ now
>What do you want to see more of?
More options in the way of getting blessings also maybe getting a chance to see one of these curses our ancestor goes on about that comes with the blessings
>Who is your favorite cast member so far?
Kat
>What can I, the author, do better?
Will think on that
>>
>>42344431
Thanks for the input. Got any questions to fire my way while you think?
>>
>What do you like most about the quest?
Dragon Ancestry character and the training stats are pretty fun. Also the characters are starting to grow on me.

>What do you like least?
Pace for getting things done is a bit slow but im hoping that improves now that we're in the Capital

>What do you want to see more of?
More opportunities to get stronger and grow our hoard. maybe play around in the city with our friends and fight with a few factions.

>Who is your favorite cast member so far?
Gil is great though a bit over protective and mistrustful. Saved his sister and has a cool girl.

>What can I, the author, do better?

Updates are a bit slow but im used to reading quests from the archive so take that with a grain of salt.
>>
>>42344502
Oh i got one. Have any images for what our ancestor looks like generaly.. Im not exactly sure on the type of dragon we are so im curious
>>
>>42344578
The pacing is something I've been toying with a bit. On the one hand the character interactions are, I feel, my strong point, but on the other hand I don't like bogging things down too much. I think I'm finally settling into a good place with it though, at least as far as condensing the less interesting parts.

As for my update speed, part of the problem is that I'm working full time in retail, which means I have a shifting schedule of the worst kind, but I try to keep things moving once I start a thread even if I get called away.

Allegiset is a red dragon. More specifically, if his word is to be taken as fact, he was THE red dragon of his era, with all red dragons since descending from his bloodline. Whether or not he's telling the truth about that one is yet to be seen.
>>
>>42345007
Still dont understand the type of dragon that is (though i have hear of that before im not 100% on what that dragon looks like.... I try not to image everyones view of dragons as my own . Hope you understand. Thats why i was looking for an image)
>>
>>42345093
Close enough.
>>
>>42343268
Character interactions, story and keeping dice to after the vote are things you do well.
>>
>>42343268
>What do you like most about the quest?
The character interactions are really well done and entertaining.

>What do you like least?
It's a little slow.

>What do you want to see more of?
Dragons. If I remember right there is an order of dragons (Order of Scales?) so if we could talk to one of them some how that could be fun.

>Who is your favorite cast member so far?
I like Millie. She's really bubbly and upbeat compared to everyone else. It was an interesting change.

>What can I, the author, do better?
Faster updates I suppose. Otherwise it's a really solid quest and I'm enjoying it a lot.
>>
I really enjoy the character interactions. It feels more natural to learn about the characters like this than in lengthy exposition. Your worldbuilding is also great, good enough to make me forget the mom-and-dad-are-great-people-trope, although something like that was to be expected with us having draconic genes.

Just keep doing what you do. Thank you, for doing this

A question I do have though, what is the level cap on our skills?
>>
Everything is great so far, only thing i want to see more of in the future is more dragon powers and things to do on that front.

>What do you like most?
You're running every day, which I think is insane. It does make the quest real easy to follow during my regular evening browse of /tg/, and even if it moves slow on a per-thread basis, the thread frequency compensates for that. The last quest I followed with this regularity was Armored Core Quest, which was years ago. Try not to get burnt out.

>What do you like least
A lot of things seem to be going extremely right or at least extremely special for Kotijah. Like, not only is she nobility, but her household servants are magic super-loyal elementals. Seems like she's getting a ton of amazing dumped on her without much of a struggle (at least not yet). I would think that long-lost nobility re-appearing would take slightly longer than a few hours to properly verify, y'know? Maybe some red-tape or upset counts trying to block it? It felt real sudden to me, but there's plenty of time for those ramifications to show up.

>What do you want to see more of?
On the same vein as last answer, more negative consequences, or at least someone actually opposing us. I feel like no person we've met has been anything but helpful - we could use some sort of rival or opponent with a face.

>Who is your favorite cast member so far?
Tough choice. Kat's got a ton of personality, but I also like Gil for being the straight man and for not immediately trusting us completely.

>What can QM do better?
You're running things pretty well. Keep it up, be open to suggestions here, but make sure you're still telling the story you want to tell.

Also, have a dragon picture.

Forgot to add Sera best girl.
>>
>>42346406
Thank you very much.

>>42347614
Millie is really fun to write for. In my head, she's like a more hyperactive Boone. As for the dragon thing... to say anything here would spoil things a bit, but let's just say I have something in mind. I'll try to work on the speed thing.

>>42347843
There's no cap on your skills or stats, but difficulty scales based on what you're trying to do. So far the story has allowed you to be average, even mediocre at the things you've tried to do and still have a solid chance. As time goes on, the difficulty will increase because the challenges will get harder, and you'll need to pick your path carefully to exploit your strengths and cover for your weaknesses.

>>42347960
Give it time, don't worry. This quest is about becoming a dragon after all.

>>42348192
"there's plenty of time for those ramifications to show up"
Yep. There's plenty of time. You've already heard about/been in the same location as at least one villainous character. This first arc has been about setup. Now we can move into the meat of the story, so to speak. As for the story I want to tell, I'm trying to let it steer itself for the most part, but I have been nudging a little here and there.

I actually think of her as a new pet.

I really love interactions between characters. Main drawback is that IMO there should be more gory fatalities, but I am a murderhobo. Keep up the good work!
>>
Oh yeah also wanted to ask . What are some of the mentioned curses i said i wanted to see more of them but i also wanna know what they will be
>>
>>42352535
I'll save that for the fanfics then.

>>42353766
You're right to an extent though. I'll try to be more thorough with my descriptions of combat scenes.

Next thread when?

>>42356184
When this one dies so I can recycle the OP image, or when I get home so I can make a new OP image and upgrade it to commemorate the (almost) end of arc 1

Nice to see that your quest is succeeding m8, though it's not my cuppa.
wonder what happened to that guy who tried to start a quest up but had to leave and never came back
>>
You know im probbably going to be starting my own quest soon though i havnt had the time to (which is also the reason why im randomly on and off this quest)

Eventually this thread will die and I'll be able to recycle my OP image. Or we can wait four hours til I get home. One or the other.
