Your name is Shane Morris. You are a wizard. After a some amount of negotiation you have convinced Jenny to go with the Order of the White Marigold to steal her prophecies from the Ministry of Magic.

You awaited an answer and when it finally arrived you were a bit surprised. The infiltration wont be until sometime in May more than half a year off.

You half expected, instead of a return letter, an entourage of people to pick you up and take Jenny to the Ministry. But you suppose infiltration the main headquarters of the wizarding government shouldn't be easy enough to think up in an afternoon.

You have time to study, prepare, learn things.

You focus most of your efforts for the next week on Charms. At the same time, you keep attending dueling club where you are learning a surprising amount. Jenny is still a bit distant but she's getting over it, focusing more on her trip to the ministry in May.

One morning you're walking to class and you hear a noise. Poking your head into a disused classroom you see a first year Ravenclaw boy crying. He hasn't noticed you yet.

“Hey, what's wrong?”

The boy looks up and quickly wipes his eyes. “Nothing.” You notice that one of his eyes is swollen shut and turned a strange orange-y color.

“Who did this to you?”

“I'm fine, go away.” He says looking away.

“Hey, I just want to help you. I won't tell anyone. Who did this to you?”

“One of the older kids.”

Your mind immediately goes to Dorner and Yates.

“Do you remember what house they were in?”

“Uh huh.”

“Which one?”

“Ravenclaw.”

You weren't expecting that. At first your mind flounders for an answer as to who it could have been, but then you realize. “Lom.”

“Yeah, him. He called me names and cursed me. Then pushed me in here and locked the door.”

“But you said that you wouldn't tell anyone.”

“It's fine, the nurse doesn't even look into these sorts of things. He just patches you up and sends you on your way.”

The boy gives you a reproachful look. “Okay.”

You lead him to the hospital wing and send him inside. As soon as you're sure he's taken care of you start to leave.

You start looking for Lom. You know he has Charms right now, just like you, but you also know he's been skipping classes lately to hang out in one of the empty classrooms on the fifth floor.

You head up there.

>Be forceful and angry
>Be calm and helpful

Votes are split but I'm going with this because I had it written and I want to keep this rolling because I only have another hour or so to run.

You find his room and knock. “Lom. It's me.”

“Fuck off.”

“Lom, I found that first year you cursed and locked in a room.”

“Door wasn't locked I just told him it was.”

“You know that's not my point. Lom, I want to help you. You can't keep doing things like this.”

“Who's gonna stop me? You?”

“Lom, I'm not here to fight you.”

“Then leave. I'm busy.”

“What are you even doing in there?”

“Fuck off, Shane. It's none of your business what I do in my free time.”

“It's the middle of class Lom. We're both skipping.”

“Just fucking leave alright!”

“Lom? Lom, you still there?”

Silence.

You prepare yourself and then try the door. It's locked so you unlock it with a spell and burst in.

The room is dark so you create a light, and it takes all you have not to drop your wand. The room is bloody, some wet, some long dried and various books and notes adorn every surface.

In a chair in the corner is Lom, who is covered in blood up to his elbows and is holding his wand. His face is white, his hands are shaking, and his eyes are wide in fear.

“You shouldn't have come in here Shane.”

You roll to the right just as a flash of green light destroys the door behind you. You land in the blood, and feel its slickness on your hands. You come up and try to body bind but as you level your wand at Lom he tries to stand up and instead collapses to the ground, becoming lost behind the table that stands between you two.

You jump up onto the table as a flash of light sings through the air under the table leaving a black mark on the red wall. The table, a small classroom model, shudders under your weight, and all at once collapses. You hear a bellow from Lom, and throw yourself wide from the collapse, hoping to be out of Lom's range when you land.

You land poorly and collapse into a pile of bloody paper. Everything is silent while you lay there trying to catch your breath, sure that any moment Lom will loom above you.

A minute passes and you raise yourself slowly from the paper. On the floor next to the broken table is Lom's wand, and a trail of blood leads out into the hall.

Scooping up his wand you chase Lom down the hallway, following the trail of blood.

It leads down, all the way down. It becomes hard to follow at the shifting staircase, but you pick up the trail again in the great hall where it leads straight out onto the grounds.

You follow him outside, and looking out down the hill to the edge of the grounds you see him disappearing into the forest.

You dash down the hill and into the forest. The oppressiveness of the place sets in right away. And every sound makes you jump. The leaves and the dirt make tracking him by blood more difficult, and as you go deeper the forest darkens.

You hazard a yell. “Lom!”

Nothing but the crack of twigs and leaves under your own feet.

“Lom, come out please!”

You travel as deep into the forest as you dare, trying to follow his path. Eventually, you loose it. You retrace your steps and find it again, but everytime, you lose it again.

You spend what feels like hours in the forest, calling yourself hoarse, trying to find him. But you find nothing. Wherever he is, he's long gone, and probably can't hear you anymore. As you pick your way back out of the forest to the rapidly darkening castle, you start to cry. A part of you would never leave the forest, because to you, this is the first person you had the chance to save, but failed. And it didn't hurt you anywhere near as much as it did him.

>>
>>42340364
A few threads back you could have said some different things to make him not go dark.

Bringing in a teacher before he started running would have at least kept him in the castle.

If you had said the perfect things to him in or outside the room you could have made him back down.
