You open your eyes after sleeping for what feels like hours.
The first thing that you see is the starry sky falling around you. It's so strange. You can't seem to recall how you ended up in midair.
The second thing you see is the way the air moves around your long, black wings and the dark clothes flapping around in the wind.
You're falling. There's something in the distance above you- maybe the place you started falling from- but you can't exactly see what it is. Your vision's too blurry right now. Maybe it's nothing at all.

>Flip over and start flying.
>Check your pockets and try to get an idea of why you're even falling.
>Continue to fall. It's a nice sight, the sky.

>Flip over and start flying.
No point in falling forever.
You stretch your body out as best you can in freefall, and flip your body around.
Below, you see a few floating landmasses covered in beautiful red foliage, one or two with rivers flowing off the sides into who knows where. Below them just looks like more sky. There's no way to tell how far the drop is. You've got a gut feeling that tells you not to test it. At the rate you're falling now, you'll probably hit one of them in a few minutes. Maybe.

You outstretch your beautiful black wings and try to ride off onto the island below you. The speed of your descent decreases as you gain control, but all of a sudden, one of your wings painfully seizes up. Startled, you try to extend it again, but it hurts far too much to do so. With only one wing, you gracelessly begin to fall faster, headed for a different island. There are far less bushes and trees on this island. The terrain is rocky, with far sparser red grass. As you come closer and closer to the ground, it seems as if you might be able to hit a thick, tall bush next to a large brown boulder. Clasping your hands together, you pray that the bush breaks your fall.

Moments later, as you crash into the boulder, you realize that your prayers are probably not being answered. You smash right through it, splitting it open with the impact, and roll for a bit before you finally stop, lying in the dirt. Such a graceful angel. It stings, but you don't have any broken bones or open wounds that you can see, so things turned out pretty well for you.

>Continue to lie down. The shame is worse than the pain.
>Sit up and look around.

>Sit up and look around.
>Check ourselves for wounds.
You sit up, brushing yourself off, and notice that your clothes aren't the least bit torn. Whatever they're made from, they're pretty good. Even your tall white boots remain intact. Taking a moment to further check your wounds, you take off your top momentarily to check for injuries, but you can't feel anything aside from slight bruising that should inevitably fade with time. Your wings are okay too, if a bit stiff. Flying probably isn't a good idea right now.

Your eyes go over to the boulder, which is currently lying around in seven different pieces. The sound it made when you hit it was deafening. If someone's around, they might have heard it...

You recall there was a forest a bit away on this particular island, but you're not sure which direction it's in now. You're completely lost. In fact, you can't even recall why you ended up here or who you are. When it comes to a name, a blank is all that comes up. Or... not so much a blank, as it is "obscured". Something is preventing you from remembering your name. It's a bit disturbing, but you can't ponder the idea forever.

Looking up to the sky, you can see what appear to be stars, and yet it's bright enough for you to see everything around you. It's perplexing. The moment you get a good look at all the stars, however, you immediately know which direction you're in. It doesn't help you remember where the forest is, but you're at least able to tell that you hit the rock flying eastward.

>Go west. Maybe you'll run into someone who saw you flying.
>Go north. You can see hills in the distance.
>Go east. Trudge onwards.
>Go south. Who knows what's there?

Can we at least get a brief description of how we look?

Are we male, or female? Short or tall? Fit or fat?
>>

You don't remember, which further perplexes you. The thin blue hair on your head goes to your shoulders, and you've certainly got a face, with what feels like a narrow nose and effeminate jawline. While there is a bit of muscle on your pale frame, you don't know what your face looks like. Your chest is relatively masculine, although like all angels, you don't have anything between your legs.

...For some reason, you know these things. Why do you know these things but not your own name?

You decide to head east. Onward you go. The wind blows softly as you walk, and eventually you start to see the grass get denser and taller. It rustles softly with each step, although it makes it hard to notice where the rocks are, and you stumble over them every now and then.

About half an hour of walking later, you hear the sound of running water. It's peaceful. When you reach it, you see a wide stream with rocks laying around sparsely, accompanied by an abundance of lush red foliage, and a few golden flowers. On the other side, the grass becomes so tall it's almost silly, and a few trees dot the landscape. It's nice. You think to sit on one of the large rocks for a moment, but all of a sudden, something rushes out of the grass, making a splash in the water.

It's a fourlegged, pudgy winged beast of some kind, with short, fat clawed legs and a dog-like head. The noise it makes is guttural, although tinged with fear. It is clearly fleeing from something. One of its wings has an arrow in it, and it's getting blood in the stream. Good thing you don't need to drink.

The beast soon climbs out of the river, shakes itself dry, and then notices you, which causes it to freeze. It appears to be deciding whether or not to ignore you or defend itself from yet another attacker.

>Make it clear that you aren't a threat.

>Make it clear that you aren't a threat.
You relax your face and slowly move down to your knees, smiling. "I mean you no harm. Please don't attack me." You address it with the sweetest voice you can muster, and outstretch an open palm to it. While it takes a moment for it to make a decision, it eventually starts trotting over in your direction.

Before it can get to you, however, you hear a slight rustling noise from the grasses, and the beast, covered in wet gray fur and bloodied russet wings snaps into action, poised to run away from the noise. It doesn't run far, however, as it receives an arrow through its head a second later. You're faced with the corpse of an unfamiliar beast. What's going on?

"Hello! Thank you for slowing her down! She would have been quite the problem if you didn't come along!" It's a sweet voice. Possibly familiar? You can't tell. Whoever they are, they're approaching. You can see the grass rustling from where the arrow came from.

>"Who's there? Why did you kill her?"

"Who's there? Why did you kill her?"
You're not entirely worried about your own safety, as you survived a full-body impact with a boulder at who knows how many miles per hour, but you never know.
"Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you. I've done all the killing I planned for today." The voice is still incredibly sweet.
Someone steps out of the tall grass, standing up from a crouching position. They're short- shorter than you, at the least. Possibly five feet tall, with dark brown skin and long black locs that go down past their shoulders. They've got strong white wings that appear smaller than yours folded up at their back. With a plain wooden bow in their muscular grip, the hunter stands tall, meeting your eyes with their golden eyes. You still don't know what color your eyes are. You only know what color your hair is because it's long enough to blow in your face. A mirror would be nice.

The hunter wears leather, dyed red, likely to blend in with the grass. A quiver sits on a belt at their hip along with a sheathed knife with a black handle. "There's a reason for it, it's my duty. Mulltumps aren't from this region, some flew over here and they breed in unreasonable numbers and prey on the local wildlife. That's why I've been tasked with exterminating them. What I'm curious about is why there's another angel here. What brings you to the Plane of Discourse?"

"Plane of Discourse?"
The hunter raises a thick eyebrow, looking at you as if you've just asked why water is wet.
"You're joking, right? Who exactly-" The look of incredulity is replaced with one of alarm.
"Why can't I know your name?"
"What are you talking about?" Nothing this angel says makes any sense to you.
"You really don't know anything, do you?" You shrug, and the hunter sighs.
"Angels can tell the names of other angels just by desiring to know. But you... It is as if someone crossed your name out. It's not as if you don't have a name, but it is impossible for me to know. Are you hiding your name somehow? How are you doing that?" There's a bit of an accusatory tone there.
"I'm not, I swear, I don't know what's going on, it's the same for me as well, uh..." You stop for a moment, and try to see if you can learn their name. "Titori."
"Hm... So you are an angel, you do have a name, but you don't remember anything?"
"That's right."
"Hmm..." After a bit of headscratching, Titori leaps over with a single flap of their wings, and squats down next to you.
"The Plane of Discourse is where fantastic beasts roam freely, and a place for us to contemplate the Creator's work and argue amongst ourselves how to handle it. It is the reason I am here at all. Otherwise I would be back in the Plane of Judgement with the Creator."

>"Judgement? How many planes are there?"

"Judgement? How many planes are there?"
"Three. There's three. Discourse, Judgement, and Substance. The Plane of Judgement is the home of the Creator. He creates us there, and oversees all of Creation, as well as That Which Exists Beyond Creation. He evaluates all we do and gives us name, purpose, and missive. I am the One Who Cares For Beasts."
"You just killed that- what did you call it? Mulltump? Doesn't seem very caring to me."
"You must see the larger picture. Had I not killed that one, it would have given birth to even more, which in turn would hunt and kill more of the beasts living here, and then those mulltumps would inevitably migrate to other islands until they're the majority and they drive the species they prey on to extinction. And if that were to happen, the mulltumps would eventually run out of things to eat. It is important to keep them away on one island and control their population."

"Why would the Creator task you with culling beasts that he himself created to act in that way?"

"I..." Titori hesitates. "It's not my place to question the acts of the Creator."

No point in pressing Titori about it. "And what about the Plane of Substance?"

"It is the realm of humans."
"Humans?" Something about that word is familiar.
"Yes. The Creator made them about a few thousand years ago. They don't live forever like we do. For example, I am 424 years old, but the average human doesn't even live a fraction of that time. Some of them reach 80 or so and then get old and die. A lot of them die younger than that." You look over at the dead mulltump. "...Are they hunted too?"

Titori chuckles. "In a sense, but not necessarily by us. They hunt and kill each other, for many reasons, some more justified than others. I don't quite understand humans, but I don't have to do anything about them because they don't come here, so they're okay in my book."

>>42344332
Interesting. "So they use weapons like the one you have to murder each other?"
"Yes, although this bow is very simple and only used to kill animals. They have far more powerful weapons, weapons beyond my imagination. Not that I'm the most creative. Hahaha..."

It's a little disturbing how nonchalant Titori is about it all, but you don't try to get too hung up on it.

"Since we don't know your name, I think I'll just call you Darkplume."
"Darkplume?"
"I've never seen another angel with black wings like yours. They're so majestic. Although they do look a bit tense. I hope you don't plan on flying anywhere without stretching, that's always a bad idea." Ah. That would have been nice to know. "I'm okay with that."

"Alright, then. Do you have any other questions? You seem to know the most important things now, but from what I can see, you know so little that more questions can't possibly hurt."

"I dunno. I think I like Nox better."
"Nox? I guess that works. Probably better."

"Other than culling beasts, what is it that you do?"
"Well, as my name suggests, I do whatever it is that is needed to ensure all of the Creator's beasts are cared for. I ensure they have stable sources of food, I prevent overhunting and overgrazing, I fly animals to different islands if it will balance populations- I even purge entire species if the Creator wills it. All to maintain order in this Plane."
"I assume you can't just fly the mulltumps back to their land because they wouldn't be able to support all the extra population, correct?"
"That's part of the reason, and the biggest one."
"Have you tried domesticating them? Could you possibly train them to be less of a problem?"
Titori sneers. "Hahahaha! A mulltump? Tamed? That's hilarious. They do what they want, whenever they want. They'll bite your hand off when you try to hand them food if they perceive it as a slight. And they take offense very easily. Some of the most prideful beasts in the Plane."

"That's a shame." "Honestly, I wish they didn't even exist. They make my job so much harder. Once, two got away and I had to spend a few years tracking them and their children down all by myself, it was awful." Titori sighs. "It's fine, though. Say, let's go to my home for now, Nox! We can talk more there, and maybe even see about helping you remember everything."
