After calming down and formally introducing yourself as well as receiving the names of the Gnome named Abraham Dayne and the tall man in odd clothes called Mr. Fiddlestick, you find yourself sitting in the chair across the Gnome's desk. Mr. Fiddlestick is just behind you, petting a crow resting upon one of his arms. Abraham is comfortably leaning back in his own chair, one hand on your Uncle's journal lying on his desk.

"Now, I understand if you have questions for us both. They'll be answered in due time, but for now I need an answer from you, Oak." Abraham clears his throat, tapping the journal with his fingers. "Who gave you this book?" He stares at you with an outmost serious expression.

>Truth. No point hiding it.
>Lie. You still can't trust these people. They just cut off your hand and offered no explanation to why it grew back within seconds.
>Try to flee.

Honestly wouldn't even be able to fucking guess.

My personal crackpot theory is that we're the result of some kind of horrific experiment including demon blood or some other such horseshit that our uncle was tasked with watching over, and the journal is essentially a log on our progress, like >>42312218 suggested.

You take a deep breath and your gaze meet the Gnome's intensive stare. You tried to flee before, albeit a pathetic attempt at it and you were stopped by Mr. Fiddlestick. Lying might give you more trouble and to be honest, curiosity has grasped at your heart and mind. Why did they cut off your hand after just reading a page out of the journal? What did Uncle write in it? Who are these two and why are Abraham important to Uncle? So many questions and hopefully they will all be answered today.

"My uncle gave it to me and he told me to give it to you." You confess, never shying away from the Gnome's gaze. He leans back in his chair further, removing his hand from the journal.

"And could you describe your Uncle to us, Oak?" Abraham continues to press the subject. You give him a general description. Bald, gray and thick beard, same eye color as yourself and a muscular body built. You don't forget to mention the scar across his face as well. Abraham ponders on what you told him for a couple of seconds before he removes his glasses and starts to rub both of his eyes.

"Oh right. He never unlocked his blood ability." He mutters more to himself than you or the tall man behind you, but Mr. Fiddlestick responds nonetheless.

"Then how will we know if this 'uncle' is him?"

"I don't know. Not yet." Abraham throws a glance back at you behind his frames and leans forward. "When your town was massa--" Abraham cuts himself off when he notices Mr. Fiddlesticks burning gaze. "Erm, when your town was... attacked. Did you notice anything strange about your uncle?"

Either you have forgotten or already started to repress some of the memories, but when Abraham asked you knew there was something, but you couldn't quite put your finger on what it was. It takes you a few moments before you remember the last time you saw your Uncle. He was rushing through the open cobblestone field before the church, killing any dark creature that dared to pounce at him. Before you looked away, you saw him leap at the large creature with the tree trunk. You retell what you can remember and the room grows silent.

"It could be him." Mr. Fiddlestick breaks the silence. You look back at him in confusion.

"Who?" You ask, but you're ignored as Abraham retaliates.

"And it could not be him. You can kill a Balverine and so can I, given the right circumstances. He might just be an old mercenary who's killed dark creatures before."

"Have you ever heard of a mercenary brave enough to attack a C-class monster? An ogre."

"If his family was in danger, yes."

"Or if he knew he'd be able to kill it and heal from his injuries." Mr. Fiddlestick ends the argument on that note and Abraham leans further back in his chair, thinking in silence. After a few moments, just as you're about to ask what's going on, the Gnome speaks up.

"Fine. While I continue to translate what I can from this heavily deciphered book, I want you to take Mr. Oak here to the armory; he needs more protection and he doesn't need the shield anymore." The tall man nods in agreement and walks up to your side. The crow leaves his arm and looks down at you.

"Come with me."

"No." You plant your feet into the floor, crossing your arms while your eyes dart between Mr. Fiddlestick and Abraham. "I'm not leaving this chair until I get some answers."

The tall man throws a glance over at the Gnome. Abraham stares at you for a few seconds and then nods at Mr. Fiddlestick. The man backs away from you.

"Very well. What is it you want to know?" He entwines his fingers as he rests his elbows on his desk, observing you as he awaits your questions.

"You could start by telling me why you cut off my hand? What do you want from me and my uncle? What's in the journal?" Your tone is cold and collected. No point getting upset in front of these men, unless you want them to think of you as a child throwing a tantrum. Abraham cracks a grin, not moving an inch.

"Alright, you've earned as much." He finally says, jumping off his chair, moving in front of you. At this height, his head is at your stomach and he has to look up to gaze into your eyes. "First of all, we didn't cut off your hand without at least a hunch on what your body, or your blood to be more specific, can do."

"How did you know about something like that when not even I knew about?" At the face of your question, the gnome merely gestures towards the journal.

"In the very first page it says you have the blood of a Hero in you. It also states that this journal belongs to Ghane; one of the five Heroes. If you haven't heard the tale, I'll fill you in on it later, but for now all you need to know is that you have a special ability in your blood, the journal most likely belongs to your father and I don't know yet what's in it, but I have a couple of ideas. If any of them are right, I'll need you to get suited up in some decent armor first. Any other questions?" And the Gnome's rant ends with a smirk.

You start to process his vague answers and eventually nod at him. Your mother told you and your sister that your father died a long time ago, but maybe he's alive out there somewhere? To be honest, it sounds too good to be true at this point. Your hopes aside, your curious about this so-called 'special ability' in your blood. You saw for yourself what it did to your hand just seconds after it was cut off. You're just as curious as to what's in the journal and what these men have planned for you. Can you trust them? You've done so so far, but can that trust hold? Should it?

"Good. Now take Mr. Oak to the armory. I got my work cut out for me." Abraham announces, strutting back behind his desk and assumes his place on the chair. Mr. Fiddlestick follows you out from the room. You're under the impression that you're going to some smithing district or something, but it turns out this place has an armory of its own. Odd. The blacksmith working his hammer upon the warm steel on his anvil. He doesn't give you nor Mr. Fiddlestick a second glance and just continues with his work in peace. It doesn't take long for Mr. Fiddlestick to get you outfitted with some steel pieces along with a chain mail dressing underneath the new set of brown clothes. He pulls off your shield and puts it aside and pulls off the belt around your upper body. He re-attaches your sword and the scabbard it's in at your waist alongside the belt. He claims it's impossible to pull out such a long sword from your back. A wonder Remny didn't poit this out or even your Uncle...

"Alright. This looks good for a starters. Do you want to keep the shield or not? Can't see how it'd would be useful to you now. Might come in handy for a new squire or something." Mr. Fiddlesticks taps on the wooden shield you bought from Remny a few days past.

It was something you bought from Remny, but given the circumstances, maybe you don't need it anymore? Maybe you don't need material things to hold onto the memory of people? And who says they're gone? You're certain your Uncle helped them. He seemed to have the situation under control, right? Maybe you're lying to yourself, but it feels better than being realistic at this point.

"Give it to some squire." You decide that you'll keep the memory of them in your heart until you meet them again. Whether that be in this life or the next. Mr. Fiddlestick nods at you and both of you leave the armory and the blacksmith working away at his anvil, not concerned for anything but his work. You're about to walk off back to Abraham's office when Mr. Fiddlestick stops you in your tracks. He pulls the coin purse off your belt and drops a fistful of silver coins in it.

"30 silver. If I know Abraham, and I do, he won't be done until tomorrow. Go fetch a room at some Inn at the trade district and watch your purse. Thieves in streets at broad daylight is as common as rats are down in the sewers. Off you go. Come back at first light tomorrow and we'll have made some progress. Do not leave the city. I will know if you do." He explains before leaving for a flight of stairs heading elsewhere but Abraham's office.

You're left uncertain to what you should do next. You still have food for another day in your little sack and with 31 silver coins in your purse, you can do or buy some decent stuff.

So far you've witnessed his control over crows first hand, so maybe Mr. Fiddlestick can stay true to his word when he said he'd know if you left the city. Either through his birds or more humanoid birds. Spies. This is all starting to sound like some grand adventure, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Your yearning for a journey has slightly died off, especially when you start thinking about heading home, or what's left of it. You still haven't quite accepted or come to terms with what happened. This all feels so unreal, as if you're going to wake up in your bed and smell your mothers home cooking any minute now. You close your eyes and imagine it, slowly opening them again. Didn't work. You're just outside the spire, still in Whitedale. You kick a rock against a house wall and starts walking down the dirty street road heading back to the Trade District.

Finding an Inn turns out to be easy and for 5 Silver, you rent a room for a day plus supper and breakfast on top of that. The day is starting to come to an end from the looks of it. The room you're shown to is larger than the one in 'The Prancing Donkey' and the bed is more comfortable. After eating your warm supper accompanied by some ale, which just tasted awful, you're once again uncertain what to do.

You could read the book about Monsters, go to sleep early or ponder about all the so-called 'answers' you've been given today and the questions that have sprung up because of it.
