You are Sallazar, a young wizard who has recently left the army. You have taken a teaching job at Egwen Girls Convent.

In addition the Headmaster of the school wants you to run the schools adventurers club, to give some of the schools more unusual girls something fun to do.

“Well” you say to the smoke-stained group of girls in front of you “would someone tell me how the fire got started?”

You're back at the school, and during the morning of the first day of the school week you had to put out a fire in one of the alchemy labs.

In the midst of it all, you found Chame, Phaysis, Evrumine...and a tiefling girl called Amara. Amara is a fairly normal-looking tiefling girl, though she's still smoking, and the large goggles over her eyes are stained black. You wonder how she sees out of them.

They all exchange glances, finally the duel of eyes ends...with Phaysis losing.

“Um, well sir” she explains “after our last match with the fire gems, we thought something like that would be really useful and so we went to talk to Cleya but making real fire gems is expensive, so Evrumine and I started asking around and it turns out that you can make something very much like a fire gem using alchemy which is very interesting don't you think?”

You just raise your eyebrow at her.
>>
Phaysis gives you nervous look, then continues “so we decided to ask Amara about this because she always gets good grades in alchemy and she said she could make us some 'fire bombs' and so we decided to give it a try”

If there was ever a story that had holes in it....

“So lets sake sure I understand you” you say “you go into an alchemy lab without permission from a teacher – which is against school rules – you miraculously find one that's unlocked” you give Chame a hard look “you brew up something with the intention of creating a volatile combustible, with the help of a girl who has been banned from the alchemy labs seven times this year, is that about right?”

Phaysis wilts slightly “Well, I don't think it was unlocked, or at least it might not have been, but Chame said she could get us in.” As she speaks Chame makes 'shut up!' gestures to her, stopping when you turn to glare at her. Chame tries her best to look contrite: her hands clasped in front of her and her head down, though she keeps sneaking glances at you.

“So not only were you in an alchemy lab without permission” you say “you broke in. Girls, don't you realise how dangerous it was?”

Amara speaks up, in somewhat plaintive tone “but Professor all of the alchemy labs have explosion and fire suppression spells and barriers.”

“None of which help if the fire spreads beyond the lab!” you snap “you put not only yourselves in danger, but the whole school.”

They all look rather shame-faced at that.

“We didn't think of that” Phaysis admits “We certainly never intended anything like that, I'm...I'm so sorry Professor.” The others all express similar sentiments.

Ahhhh...they all look so miserable, and the fire was confined to the lab anyway, although about a third of the room will need to be replaced.

They should all face some harsh punishment for this, but sometimes you're really soft-hearted with the girls.

“You'll be cleaning up this whole place to start with” you say “and....”

Since I finally got around to updating the pdf, I noticed a few mistakes.
Sallazar hasn't been updated to Abj. Specialisation 10 yet, neither in the Class ability nor in calculation for Reserves (it should be 140/200 now).

Is it right that Nevyn lost her Displacement ability?
Also she should have Melee Defence 16 in beast form not 15, because she has 22Agi.

Anlanesa doesn't have a attack array for her giant form?

Phaysis is missing the stats for her longbow.

I think there was more, but I forgot.

Get Sallazar some ranks in Teacher of the Ocean and do something useful with your time instead.
>>
>>42308223
Teacher of the Ocean doesn't actually help so much with that because its FAR better for intense training of a few students in what Sallazar is already Master.
>>
>>42308251
And he counts as Master in every arcane casting class at rank 5, every casting class at rank 7 and every class at rank 9.
>>
>>42308294
Which doesn't matter to the restriction of up to five students for the increased TP gain.

>>42308182

>>
>>42308319
That's only if you want to double the extra TP gain, he could teach the entire club as a Master and still grant more TP than a regular Master focusing on a single student.
>>
>>42308351
>That's only if you want to double the extra TP gain
Why the hell would you not want that?
>>
>>42308351
Considering there is literally no reason to not want the massive extra TP gain, I have no idea what point you're trying to argue here.
>>
>>42308355
Because 14 * 5 > 5 * 9 and some of the girls are already starting to pull ahead of their peers due to smaller tutoring groups.
>>
>>42308351
>he could teach the entire club as a Master and still grant more TP than a regular Master focusing on a single student
Thats wrong though. He wouldn't give more TP gain than a regular Master would.
>>
>>42308396
He would, once he actually reaches 5. TotO also gives a flat bonus on TP.
Of course anon is ignoring that Sallazar can't actually teach more than 5 people per week due to time constraints, but I'm not sure what is issue is to begin with.
>>
>>42308384
>and some of the girls are already starting to pull ahead of their peers due to smaller tutoring groups
And? We can easily even that out with XP.
>>
“I'll be finding more work for you” you say “that you'll be doing during detention.”

Amara and Evrumine both look suitably chastised, Phaysis gives a soft “oh!” and Chame...tries to hide a smile. Ok, extra duties for Chame it is, you had hoped her recent shunning would have led her to consider the consequences of her actions.

“I'll let you know what you'll be doing once I've found some suitable chores” you tell them “now clean this up, then get to class.”

You pinch the bridge of your nose as the girls start cleaning, so much to do...

A letter was on your desk this morning, informing you of the date, time and location of your hearing date with the Crown Court Magistrates, three days from now. Hopefully you can get this legal mess cleaned up. And certainly not because you want to impress Taynathil, but rather because it will be the right thing to do.

You also have girls lining up for private tuition, the wards on the school to strengthen, and probably some more magic items to make.

The one bright spot in ever-busy your schedule is that your next scheduled dungeon is two weeks away, giving you just enough time to try to help Nataline, Tisania and Nevyn.

Headmaster Sarum has also narrowed down the location of Tisanias father to a small number of possibilities and he has managed to get you a time-limited teleportation pass, permitting you to travel the continent (and farther) on 'official wizards guild business', with an allowance of yourself, and up to three assistants.
>>
>>42308442
I wonder if there will be any fluff/IC approach to this.

>Hey teacher, why do you keep favoring X and X over the rest of us?
>Why does Y get special attention and I have to work my ass off harder than her?
>Z is the teacher's pet, let's make fun of her
>So, have you two/three/four banged yet?
>Student jealousy and etc
>>
To help Nataline you could: talk to the merchants that paid for her to be made Soulbound; talk to the cult that worships her; try to get Tunvarin Guild to cancel the contract somehow; or try to find the other half of her divinity – maybe that might help convince people not to kill her.

To help Tisania you could: look for her father; try to get Tunvarin Guild to cancel the contract somehow; or look for other descendants of Umsharishta; or talk to the Blackhallow Adventurers Guild of Silbraxis to try and negotiate a way for Tisania to help them without coming to harm.

To help Nevyn you could: speak to the Archmage Galvinius try to get Tunvarin Guild to cancel the contract somehow.

For any of the girls you could claim they're part of your Masterwork Project to qualify officially as a Master Abjurer. Exactly how you're going to do that, you're not sure of yet.

As a final option, one you don't even want to contemplate, you could make one of the girls your familiar, typing her mind and soul to yours. It is an option you are loathe to use, due to the side-effects. But given the fates the girls might face...

Who are you going to help first?
>Nataline
>Tisania
>Nevyn
>All (talk to Tunvarin Guild)
>Other (?)

After choosing who to help, then you can pick how in a follow-up vote, but feel free to discuss it. Only once the follow-up vote is called will votes for method be counted
>>
>>42308498
>Nevyn
Let's finish her side plot first, it's already half done.
>>
>>42308493
>Hey teacher, why do you keep favoring X and X over the rest of us?
I can't really see that since we usually focus on training the 5 girls that actually have active interest in Wizardry/Sorcery, the others just dabble anyway.

>>42308498
>Tisania
>>
>>42308485
And certainly not because you want to impress Taynathil, but rather because it will be the right thing to do.
Keep it in your pants, Sal. For now
>>
>>42308426
Oh, right, time constraints. Linear temporal existence has foiled me once again.

Calluna needs to make the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

>>42308442
You can't really make 9 girls catch up to 5 Sallazar-tutored girls when XP was already earned in lower overall amounts than TP before Teacher even existed.
>>
>>42308552
>You can't really make 9 girls catch up to 5 Sallazar-tutored girls
You can if you mix up which 5 girls he tutors every week. Only Safire and Janrael will surge ahead, which isn't that terrible and we could always stop the fixed private tutoring for them once they are at a certain level.

Nevyn it is
>>
>>42308657
I'm not seeing how a Sorcerer teacher helps, since the girls could spend their time just as well, if not better, by learning their non-caster class while not being tutored by Sallazar.
>>
Ok, you've come pretty far with Nevyn, you might as well get her sorted before dealing with the others.

>since the girls could spend their time just as well, if not better, by learning their non-caster class while not being tutored by Sallazar
Unless they want to improve their caster class even without Sallazar.
I don't see any reason to force them to restrict their training in sorcery to Sallazars schedule when we could easily just get a sorcerer teacher for those girls who only learn sorcery, which frees up Sallazar to teach the wizard girls.
>>
>>42308767
>Talk to Nevyn about her being your Familiar
Can't see her not being a cute little kitty pet
>>
>>42308746
Except they can easily train both spellcasting and non-caster classes in one week. They got also several spots of free time afterall.
There is no reason to artificially stunt their growth.

Once the girls have cleaned up the laboratory, you send them to clean themselves up, and then to class.

You tell the Headmaster where you're going, ask some of the teachers to cover your lessons for the morning and then head to your room, gather some belongings, and then shift to another plane...

XXX

You knock at the door for a fifth time, hopefully someone will answer this time.

You're on another plane, all around you is barren dusty waste, and you're standing at the base of a tower, knocking on a wooden door.

You look to the top of the tower, did you get the location wrong? Or the plane? The description in the notes you were given seemed clear enough.

The door swings open, and an elderly-sounding voice issues from the air “Alright! Alright! Fine, come on up! And that cheese had better be properly cured!”

Well, him mistaking you for a delivery man isn't promising, but at least you're in.

You wander into a very dusty foyer and to the base of a long flight of stairs. At the bottom of the stairs is...a skeleton, wearing what once might have been a maids outfit.

Either this Archmage is so absent-minded he doesn't even notice when his servants die...or he has some odd tastes.

But judging from the skeletons position of lying on the stairs unmoving, its probably the former.

You walk up the long flight of stairs, teleporting or flying might be best, but old mages can get...tricky. They don't live to old age without having a certain level of paranoia, and you are in his house, so not using magic without permission is polite. Indeed, all around you is the feel of magic, you're probably being examined by some sort of ward or defence, but not one you're familiar with...no wait its a variant but its an alarm spell based upon hostile intent, and magical ability.

Eventually you reach the top of the tower, having passed a number of doors on the stairs on your way. Everything is covered in dust.
>>
You knock on the door at the top, and at the sharp “Enter!” you step inside.

Inside you see a typical cluttered, messy wizards study, with half-finished projects and notes strewn all over the place.

Sat on a cushion-covered chair, poring over a large map with tiny moving things on it, is a wizard so old that you wonder if he's a lich.

He looks up from the map and glares at you “You're not Gerald” he grumbles “where's my cheese?”

“I don't know” you say diplomatically “I didn't bring any cheese”.

“Clearly” he sniffs “Only Gerald delivers my cheese, who are you?”

“I'm Sallazar” you say “of the Northern Shtell Mages Guild, and a Teacher. I've come to talk to you about the Emperor Displacer-Beast Soulbound-”

“Is it here?” he sits up excitedly “did they find it?”

“Not that I know of” you say “but I'm actually here to talk about the contingency clause, specifically the Soulborn.”

“Bah!” he says dismissively “that will take too long.”

“I'm not sure what Tunvarin have told you” you say “but he had a daughter – one of my students.”

“A female, pfah!” he groans “Women are useless.”

Ah good, maybe you don't need to convince him to leave Nevyn alone, maybe his own views can keep her safe.

“But if she were transformed into a male” he muses, grabbing a piece of parchment and making some notes “given a substantial intelligence upgrade, and most of those useless weepy emotions were removed...” You realise he is sketching a diagram of a brain, one with spikes going into it.

Or not...

Whilst considering your next argument, you look at the map. It seems to be a map of the plane, and the tiny creatures crawling on it are miniature displacer-beasts, each less than a quarter of an inch long.

They're covering most of the plane, ahead of them the map is green and healthy-looking. But the places they occupy are brown and stark and empty-looking.

>>42309827
Its totally a option, just not a very good one.
But I'm sure Sallazar and the Headmaster together can take him.
>>
>>42309850
And then he comes back as a clone, or a lich, or just resurrects immediately in an extraplanar doom fortress. This is assuming two people that are Masters in only one school with at least one of them having no Legendary Spells can take on an Archmage.
>>
>>42309891
>And then he comes back as a clone, or a lich, or just resurrects immediately in an extraplanar doom fortress.

I think you mean theMOTHER FUCKING BAG, ASSHOLE!
>>
>>42309934
That wouldn't prevent the clone or the lich, since the former might not be reliant on the soul (or might have a cloned soul) and the latter would mean the soul is already somewhere else. Might not prevent the resurrection depending on the strength of the soul anchors in his doom fortress.
>>
>>42310003
Isn't becoming a lich an active process, not something that just happened when you die after preparing everything?
>>
>>42310049
In theory he could be a lich and just hiding it.

“That might work” you say dubiously, trying to sound like you're considering his idea “but do you really want to trust everything to a girl, and a young one at that?”

Archmage Galvinius pauses in his sketching “you might be right” he muses “even with a modified brain, this might not work.”

“Why do you need an Emperor Displacer-Beast anyway?” you ask him.

He gestures at the map and harrumphs “Well world domination sounded so much fun, but now I've gotten bored of the things, and I just want them to leave.”

“But you're a master of changing living things” you say “didn't you put some sort of lethality trigger in them?”

“Hah!” he cackles, a high-pitched annoying sound “I did in the first batch, its true, but then my enemies discovered it, so the next batch didn't have that. This lot is the, hmm, ninth batch I think. No weaknesses, and a significant improvement on the original.”

“Well I wish you the best of luck” you say as diplomatically as you can “but seeing as my student can no longer help you, perhaps you should cancel your request to the Tunvarin Mages Guild?”

He grunts, leaning over the map again “I suppose I should, one less thing to worry about.”

Ah, excellent, success.

“Or...” he says thoughtfully.

Uh oh...

“Yes!” he stumbles to his feet and totters over to a dusty book case, retrieving a leather tome with a picture of an insect on it, he leafs through it and says “Aha! Yes! By means of this spell an organism can be rapidly gestated and bought to maturity within days, by consuming the mothers life force.”

Is he suggesting...?

“Fascinating as that sounds” you say, keeping an even tone despite a sudden urge to throw him out of the window “the children of Soulborn inherit only a fraction of their parents power, her children would not be Emperor Displacer-Beasts.”

He waves the book at you and gives a high-pitched cackle again “ordinarily no, but I have discovered how to make all manner of creatures breed true.”

Vote closed

I am lumping in the votes to offer to bring him an unspecified male Emperor with the votes to temporarily change Nevyn.

Whether you actually change Nevyn, or create a new Emperor will be decided in a follow-up vote after talking to her.

I believe the votes are intended to be a commitment to provide him with an Emperor, without saying where you got it from.

If this was not the intention of the votes, please let me know.
>>
>>42310455
>to provide him with an Emperor
Provide him with one temporarily, at least.

By that logic then so are >>42310205 except we take it back after.

>>42310546
Pretty sure most of the votes go into the direction of taking it back, the default one also is clearly not for leaving Nevyn with him.
>>
>>42310581

Yeah ok, I admit defeat, I don't really understand what some of these votes are for.

Final Destination in 5 minutes from now.

Options will be

Telling him the secret of how to make Emperor Displacer-Beasts

Offering to provide one, without going into detail.

Sorry to slow things down and ask for a re-vote, but this is very close.

If players want other options on the FD vote, please let me know before I post it.
>>
>>42310635
>Offering to provide one, without going into detail.
There are two options behind this one though, either we say we bring one to help him get rid of the others, which is what I'm sure the votes were for, or we actually make a new one and give it to him.
Thats a pretty important distinction.
>>
>>42310635
>I don't really understand what some of these votes are for
I'm unsure whats so confusing here?
Offering to lend him the services of a emperor displacer beast.
>>
>>42310635

>>42310672
Speak for yourself, I'd have preferred to give him a new one instead of bring Nevyn to the same *plane* as this guy.

>>42310708

>>
>>42310699
If thats the case there certainly needs to be a third option, to differ between loaning the services of a emperor and making a new one for him to use.

>>42310708
>Which can be decided in a follow-up vote
If you think that makes sense, then we can do that. I suppose the difference could be considered small enough to not warrant vote splitting.
>>
I don't understand why the gender swapping element is even necessary. Just tell the wizard we'll bring one and get rid of them without being specific about the gender, he doesn't need to fucking inspect her, he just needs the results.
>>
>>42310749
>I don't understand why the gender swapping element is even necessary.
Because we just convinced him a female one would be useless, so obviously we can't offer to help him with one.
You might notice the gender swap option is identical to the "loan Nevyns services" option that already existed before just with the generswap, we made it necessary.
>>

I don't understand why people even want to bring her to him. Tell him how to make them on the condition he rescinds any claim to her.

Post only the number, nothing else

1 – Offer him the secret of creating Emperor Displacer-Beasts
2 – Offer to provide an Emperor Displacer-Beast to get rid of the Displacer-Beasts

Second option is explicitly leaving it open as to where you'll get one from, just that you'll get one to get rid of the masses of displacer beasts. Nor does it mention gender.

I'm not assuming anything, I explained what made the other anon assume genderbending might happen or might be what people who voted for it wanted.
Especially since several anons expressed interest in seeing genderbend Nevyn.
How about you stop being such a cunt.

>>42311582
Calluna really doesn't need a second pet.
And honestly, she also really doesn't need to infringe on Nevyns design space.
>>
“You don't need to do that” you say hastily “I think I know where I can find one to get rid of the Displacer-Beasts for you.”

He puts the book down “Oh really?” he says interestedly “where from?”

“I just know where one might be” you say cagily “besides, the important thing is getting rid of the right? Not the how.”

“I suppose not” he concedes “I really would like to experiment on one though” he adds wistfully.

“Again, not the main issue” you say “right now, getting rid of them is the plan, although I'm not exactly sure where they can do?”

He snorts “the Elemental Plane of Fire, or Water? Who cares about that, just get rid of them.”

That seems rather cruel, but given their numbers, you can't think of any place they could go, not all of them anyway.

“I'll get on it right away” you say.

He fixes you with a beady-eyed glare “I had better see their numbers dropping by the end of the week” he says “or else I'll be going to Tunvarin.”

You just nod your head politely, and leave, no point in antagonising him now that you've got him to agree.

XXX

“So” you say to Nevyn, in-between her classes “I think I can see fit to allocating you some extra credits, because this is a project that could take weeks.”

You told her about your trip to the Archmage, though you leave out the creepy bits.

“Yeah” she says dubiously “I mean, I dunno if I can even control them, or whatever, and even if I can, they're spread over like three continents, this is going to take time.”

“Hence the extra credits” you say “well, are you up for it? If not, then just say, and I'll find some other option.”

Nevyn gives you a sceptical look “like what?”

“Like elevating a regular Displacer Beast to an Emperor” you say “and having it do all the work.”

“You mean” she says “the notoriously stubborn things that don't obey anyone?”

Well, not quite, you think of Calluna.

“You are, of course, my first choice” you say “but I won't force you or try to guilt you into doing it.”
>>
Nevyn snorts “Oh I'll do it” she says “it sounds interesting, and if nothing else I'll get to learn about Displacer-Beasts, I gotta ask though – do you have to, I dunno, turn me into a guy or anything?”

You shake your head “no, since I won't be taking you near Archmage Galvinius. Deal or no deal, that's not a good idea.”

“Oh” she says, sounding relieved and (maybe?) a little disappointed.

Then she perks up “if they obey me, can I keep some?”

“Nevyn” you say patiently “this is a magically-modified strain that grows and breeds incredibly fast, can you see the problem?”

“Please?” she begs “just one, a kitten? I'll bet you can change it so that it isn't a problem.”

Well, if you can't, a druid probably could....

What is the plan regarding:

Because I said I'd allow a follow-up vote on whether it would be Nevyn or a new 'Beast.

And from previous experience, players prefer to ask an NPC their preference before making decisions that affect that NPC.

And the first choice thing is Sallazar being encouraging.

Telling a student 'you're my last choice, because other choices are better' demoralises them.

Alone, Nevyn faces down the entire pack of twenty or more.

The beasts snarl back, and several take runs at Nevyn, only to fall back when she turns to face them. You are ignored; their attention is on her. Some of the smaller ones run back and forth, juveniles excited by the confrontation, but unsure what to do.

Finally a large scarred displacer-beast walks cautiously forward, snarling at Nevyn all the while. She doesn't back down and they both advance, until they're only a few feet apart.

Their snarls become full growls and suddenly they fly at one another, but as soon as contact is made, the scarred one flops to the ground on its back, throat exposed.

Nevyn sniffs at it briefly and bats it with her paws, it doesn't fight back. She growls at the rest of the displacer-beasts and they all crouch down on the ground. You let out the breath you didn't even realise you were holding in, it looks like she can do this.

[Nevyn gains Command Lesser Kin power]

Even when Nevyn changes back into her humanoid form, the beasts still cower. Until she holds out her arms and then they come forwards cautiously to be petted and stroked as Nevyn makes cooing noises over them.

“Is it safe?” you ask softly.

Now the beasts pay attention to you, surrounding Nevyn and growling at you, crowding protectively around her.

She soothes them with a glance.
>>
“It's safe sir” she says “Um Sir, is there anyway we can save them?”

“Nevyn” you sat patiently “there's hundreds of thousands of them, where would they go?”

“I don't know” she says “another plane?”

“Where they would multiply out of control, eating everything” you say, “until they'd stripped it bare and then starve to death.”

“Isn't there any plane that could hold them?” she asks plaintively.

“I don't know” you admit “maybe, but it could take years to find one, time we just don't have.”

“Oh” she says sadly, stroking the head of one of the younger displacer beasts “can we try to make their...their deaths useful, like sending them to the Drow or something?”

You laugh, the idea of the drow having to deal with them is funny in a dark sort of way.

“I wish” you say “but they might retaliate by sending assassins after the whole school, and even if they don't, if the drow managed to capture some, they might use them as weapons.”

Nevyn bites her bottom lip, and looks down, nodding sadly, as tears well up in her eyes.

You can't save thousands and thousands of them, that simply isn't an option, but you might be able to save a few hundred...once the druids have helped fix them.

What do you say?

>We can't help them Nevyn, I'm sorry
>We'll find a plane for some to live on
>We'll use some on our enemies (who?)
>Maybe Calluna can help, somehow

Probably best to approach the easiest first. Nataline might take a while.

Calluna is definitely the first choice, but if that option can't save all of them, then explore the other options to at least save as many as we can.

>Help Tisania

Greedy asshats that would just teleport off-plane if the city guard couldn't put down the beasts making the entire action pointless beyond slaughtering innocents, at that.

[Meta]
The druids don't actually like the beasts, and would prefer they all die. They'll help you with some, because you're trying to help them. They won't fix huge numbers of them for you, because from their point of view, these are abberations, not natural animals.

>>42312738
All this terrible anti-abberation racism going on. About time Calluan becomes a druid and shows them how its done.

“Calluna might be able to help” you say to Nevyn “if that doesn't work, then we'll find a plane for some of them to live on.”

“Ok” she says, drying her tears “So which ones should I pick? And how many can I keep?”

“No more than five” you say “as for which ones...I'd say the juveniles” you indicate the smaller displacer-beasts.

“Ok” says Nevyn, sizing them up “why?”

“Old enough to leave their pack and their parents” you say “young enough to be socialised around people so they don't attack them.”

“But a cub would be so cute...” says Nevyn, gently stroking a small fluffy cub.

“And would require feeding around the clock” you say “and constant attention all the time. Which I will not be doing for you – ask yourself Nevyn, are you ready to look after a baby?”

“On second thought” says Nevyn, pushing the cub back towards one of the adults “the juveniles sound better.”

XXX

With Nevyn having picked out her five beasts, you travel back to the school, housing them in a temporary cage, courtesy of groundskeeper Answick.

You leave Nevyn soothing the beasts in the cage, as you go to look for Calluna.

After explaining the situation to her, she gives you grave look and says “I'll need to talk to some people in my dreams” and refuses to elaborate.

Well, with that done, you take your lessons in the afternoon, whilst planning what to do about Tisanias predicament.

What are you going to do?

You spend the next two days tracking down potential leads on Tisanias father. You meet a lot of sorcerers with blue dragon and storm elemental ancestry, as well as some with magic items that give them similar powers.

You also have a rather tense encounter with a polymorphed young blue dragon who is living amongst humans and working as a dancer in a bar. Still, you come away from that encounter rather puzzled but unhurt.

During one of your trips back to the school, Calluna gives you a sheet of hastily written down planar coordinates.

“What's this?” you ask her.

“If you send the displacer-beasts to there” she says “they'll have somewhere to live.”

You try to make sense of the coordinates, a task made easier by your exposure to Calluna.

“These don't go anywhere” you say “there isn't a plane there.”

Calluna rolls her eyes “I know” she says “it's an inter-planar relay point that diverts travel along the z7, s6, y9, t5, i99, q159 and z12 axis' to a further plane”

Hang on, planar coordinates only have 4 particulars, not 7, and the numbers only go up to 87. But theoretically...your head starts to hurt as you try to envisage where that plane would be on the charts you know. A long way away and somewhere strange you decide.

XXX

The day before you're due to be in court, you're at a seedy dive, on a different continent, watching a muscular man with his shirt off beat up another man, also semi-naked. Both combatants have magical powers, though the larger giant-blooded man is losing as the lightning storm surrounding the two of them wears him down.

Eventually he falls, and the crowd around the fighting pit cheers as the victor raises his hand and gives a brilliant smile. The ladies in the crowd sigh...but he doesn't seem that handsome, rather plain actually, though maybe his victory and obviously fit body have something to do with it.
>>
You are just another face in the crowd as he climbs out of the pit, and a cloak is wrapped around him by one of his four bodyguards. They are tough-looking half-orcs, equipped with expensive magical weapons and armour.

Because the pit-fighter known as The Dancing Storm isn't a regular pit fighter, he's the chosen champion of the Torraz crime syndicate, and he just beat the champion of a rival crime syndicate: the Mosias.

His appearance, his powers, all match the descriptions you've been given, as well as the contemptuous way he kicked his fallen opponent as they drag his semi-conscious body from the pit. Judging from the fight he's a lot stronger than a normal human, ass befits a dragon soulbound.

You're not 100% sure, but this could be Tisanias father, whom she knew as Orin Gitreson.

You need to be sure before you act. You could just go and ask him, or maybe ask around in the crowd, someone might now. Or a rival crime family might have dirt they have on him.

How will you confirm his identity?

You decide to take the subtle route, and ask around. Fortunately there are plenty of people willing to talk about the Dancing Storm.

He appeared in the city a little under eight years ago and quickly made a name for himself as a fighter, eventually killing the Torrez's former champion.

As befits a crime syndicates champion he is rich, able to buy anything he wants, and he is well-protected. The various syndicates use the pit fights as way of settling disputes without resorting to open warfare, and the Dancing Storm has never lost, though a couple of fighters have fought him to a draw.

He is also very popular with the ladies. And here's where people start to give vague answers, and look shifty. After careful questioning you discover that many of his one-nighters, and girlfriends end up in the cities free hospitals, with various injuries they insist are accidents. None of them are willing to accuse him, not that it would help, the rumour mill assures you – the Torrez family would just pay them off, or have them dealt with.

One old man talks bitterly about his niece who got involved with the Dancing Storm; he relays a tale of emotional and physical abuse that she suffered, even though she apparently insisted that 'it was all her fault'.

An interesting little fact is that she told her uncle that the Dancing Storm spoke of a woman he was once married to, and that they lived high in the mountains, with fields of white flowers all around them. She also tells of the rage she saw building with him as he spoke about 'that unfaithful harridan who took my daughter away from me' and how he desperately wants her back.

That's enough for you. You squint at the Dancing Storm as he leaves the bar for the night, a crowd of supporters around him, and his ever-present bodyguards.

Ok, this is going to take some planning...
