For now.

Hunter Headquarters is under attack, and you woke up right in the middle of it.

The last half hour has been a mad dash to try to collect what--and who--remains. Along the way, there were some shocks--Dodo is dead, killed saving the unit's bar from Tanker Tigershark. Conda is dead, murdered by the king of all assholes, Seven. Schwarzhund, the Fourth Overland's ace, has officially been listed as missing in action. Emerald somehow survived and returned from the same fate, only to find his brother is lost. India survived a run-in with Seven, and was blown in half for her trouble.

You brought the one-half pilot back to the only safe, fortified position you know of--the shooting range, barricaded and lined up with as many hunter guns as you could find. You see Grach brought the wounded Lifesaver back--he's working on Em, as you unshoulder India and set her down on an ammo cart turned gurney.

"You're stable," the Lifesaver notes, giving her only a quick sideward glance without looking up. "But not for long."

"Eleventh specs," India mutters, raising her head with some effort to look at her lack of legs. "Whole body's designed to seal off into compartments in case we get blown open in space."

"I'm fine," Emerald says, sitting up--not that he looks it, a jagged line across his entire torso hastily patched. "Shields are topped up, I'm functional."

The Lifesaver tries to keep a hand on his patient and push him back onto the surgical bed, but Em isn't having it. Finally resigning himself, the injured medic turns and starts to tend to India.

"So what's our status?" Em asks, ignoring the raised eyebrow from Grach as the Russian approaches.

"We're as secure as we can be, for now," he replies. "But most of the base is either empty or occupied. The building itself is mostly clear, but there's some sort of hostile mechaniloid on the ground. Some sort of hovertank with a detachable top--"
>>
>>42304413
"Shit, over by the hangars?" Em asks--he still looks off-balance, with the news of his brother. "That's one of Crankshaft's trophy captures. It was from the first maverick war."

"It's killed everything near it, and it's on open ground, on some sort of combat patrol routine. Half the damage to that side of the campus is from it."

"Is it between me and HQ?" you ask. You still need to go find your CO. You look over at India on the table, who nods slightly. You'll be taking one of her ride chasers.

"No, but it might pursue. It's tearing things up, either way--I think the hostiles used it as cover to retreat."

"...I'll handle it," Em says quietly.

"Are you--"

"Yeah. I can handle it."

If you've got anything to say before you go, now's the time.

we have any luck getting comms back up or are we still relaying on carrier pigeons and smoke signals for the time being? Or at least find out where the jamming signal is coming from? If it's along the way we might be able to make a quick pit stop to try and get comms back up.

Other then that any last minute advice?

Welcome back Hunter Command, I've missed you. Also Magnet Lobster if you're reading this you better have your stories ready by the end of this thread. You've been promising since Christmas of last year

HC, I have read thread 1, 30-something, that fight with the sun pheonix god thing, and something about sharks and bombs. There's no hope for me that isn't just sitting down and going on an archive binge.
>>
>>42304521
>Need a quick rundown?
at least a weapons loadout. I can't remember if we got our lance back yet when we found Em and I have no idea if our special weapons like the blackout rockets have any charges left in them
>>
>>42304551
You've got your lance--Em gave it back to you when you found him again. Also, a reminder that your Conduit Capacitor is gone.

As for VWES, you're currently equipped with full ammo and the loadout you had when you left for the 0 unit mission--Tumult Shell, Blackout Rockets, Highball Skippers, and Lockon Hunter. Your T. Coils are currently unequipped.

Fortunately, you're in the range, where they can swap out and top up your ammo counters before you depart.
>>
>>42304426
Any means of quick transport to get to Frog fast? A ride chaser or any form of vehicle? We wil need all the help we can get to get there fast since we don't have our super dash.

Other then that, wish our friends luck and once things are done we can offer some drinks and our ears for everyone. Not much, but as it is, even a small offer could help.

After all, these guys have been our rock. Let's be theirs when the time comes.
>>
Point out to Em that the 4th can't afford to lose another good officer today, but let him go if he really thinks he can deal with it. He's probably the only one around that knows enough about that thing to deal with it.

I think we wanted to swap out something for the zip lines last time.
>>
>>42304661
We already did swap stuff. We got the lock on hunter, the coils, the shields, and black out rockets.

It's a good set up and the coil will allow us more mobility in getting from place to place. The other three can help with quickly dealing with threats as we move in.
>>
>>42304693
well according to this>>42304593 we still have the highball skippers (grenades) and left the T coils behind. We can still switch now though before we leave
>>
>>42304713
Whoops, >>42304693 was correct.
>You get out of their hair in a hurry, switching over your grenades for the old standby coils. You go through an entire set of them cabling off the fortified points--helping secure the barricades in place and leaving low triplines for any potential aggressors to have to wade through. You top back up and run the cables through the bracket mounts you installed on your forearms, ready to zipline.

HC in charge of his own story!

I'll back this >>42304455
>>
>>42304713
yeah, thats fine. Probably just the morning, but we did change them last thread and used the wires to fortify the shelter a bit. Either way we NEED mobility. Especially if frog is high up or in a tricky situation.
>>

You already told India about Em's brother without really thinking about it, but you realize he might not exactly be ready to announce it to the world. Time enough for that later, you think grimly. If there is a later.

So instead, you pull him aside (Grach nodding and keeping a respectful distance--he can probably guess something's wrong) to talk to him.

"You sure about this?"

"Yeah," Em nods, eyes on the floor as he answers quietly. "Yeah. I can take it."

"All right, I trust you," you reply--you note he looks up a little at that. "But just--be careful, all right? We've lost too many good people already."

"Don't I know it," he says with a bitter, brittle laugh. "Thanks, Anode."

"Take care of yourself," you say, clapping an arm on his shoulder lightly.

"You too. You're heading into the shit, you know that, right? If it's this bad out here..."

You remember the swarming attack choppers, pouring fire down at the central towers. "Yeah. I will."

That done, you leave Em to take a moment to evaluate his weapons, and return to the Lifesaver.

"Yes?" he asks, without looking.

"When you get done with her, do you think you could re-engage Grach's systems?"

He pauses--only for a moment, a brief little thing before he returns to work with his one good hand. "...Yes," he replies.

"Thank you. And--"

"And after that, I'll be repairing my arm more completely, yes," he interrupts, sensing your thought. "Go, Lieutenant."

You nod once more, check your weapons, and make ready to head out.

India calls you one last time. "Anode--go 'round the other side of the building, near the labs." Her speech is a bit labored--putting aside that she's being worked on while active with limited tools, being cut in half probably hurts like hell. "I keep a chaser stashed there. Unlock code's 5-0-0-4."
>>
>>42305249
Happy birthday!
>>
>>42305251
It's easy enough to get there, you note with a cynical chuckle--you can just climb the wall of rubble and hop out to the other side of the wall.

You ease into the seat and warm the engine, slowly building up speed, letting the darkened skies wash over you as you take in a horizon filled with maverick contacts.

And, more than anything, the desolation around you disquiets you not for the damage done, or the obstacles in your way, but because of the complete and utter silence in the area immediately surrounding the Fourth's grounds. It's not like they were driven off or repelled.

It's like they're done with you.

However, the closer you get to central, the more things heat up. Driving around a piece of highway--a giant chunk dropped from the overpass to bar the way--you suddenly find yourself entirely too close to the sound of small arms fire.

Up ahead, two groups shelter among the wreckage of the highway struts and downed mechaniloids, trading plasma fire between the two positions.

After a moment, one of the two camps sees you, and the fire turns your way. Comms are still out--and FoF identifiers have never been more useless.

we don't really have time to figure out who's a friend and who's a foe right now. Hell for all we know both sides are hunters who think the other side are mavericks. Let's blow through this crap and get to central. We're probably going to need all our VWEPS fully charged for the shit show we're about to ride into anyways.

You decide you don't have time to figure out who's who. Gunning it, you lean forward under the visor, putting on a burst of speed.

By now the fire is pouring in--you snap-fire a tumult shell back along the return trajectory, plasma splashing across it and blooming midair. Unfortunately, while you buy yourself a few seconds, your speed takes you out of your safe zone, and a few stray shots rake your chaser. A moment later, it lurches and coughs as you blast through the crossfire, taking hits from both sides. The handlebars wobble and buck, the frame shuddering as some unhealthy blue-tinged smoke sputters out of one of the damaged thrusters. A few stray shots chase you, but before long you're through the firestorm and they return their attention to fucking butchering each other.

Jesus Christ, this shit.

You're past one hurdle, but you've managed to attract the attention of another. Three of those attack drones swoop low and head straight for you. You juke left and right as fire kicks up clouts of half-molten metal and plumes of wreckage in your path. Their fire's homing in fast, and your bike can't take a whole hell of a lot more of this. And you really, really don't want to get caught on open ground with those things in the air.

You veer off sharply, another bolt hitting close enough that you feel slagged metal burn against your leg. Up ahead is another section of destroyed highway, the front legs buckled and collapsed when a downed flyer crashed into it.

You bank left, cycling over to your blackout rockets. You twist in the seat and fire behind you as they come in on your six--the first drifts aside, but the second hits it full on, leaving the third to pass through the blooming cloud of chaff. The effects are immediate and gratifying--the first actually loses prop control, nosediving into the ground and carving a long trench, digging its own grave (you hope), while the second, blinded and disoriented, has to stop firing and focus on righting itself, the baffled sensors leaving it swaying ungainly in the air.

The front-runner circles around to your front as you push your damaged chaser up the length of road and onto the highway proper. You get a blissful moment of safety before the first attack chopper rises up over the guardrail, blasters rending them apart as its fire scythes through the air at you.

In that instant, with the second copter coming back up on you from behind, your maneuvering options dwindling sharply, suddenly everything is made a whole lot easier.

It feels like autopilot as you turn sharply towards the side of the overpass, the ride chaser's front-mount blaster firing on the already-weakened guardrails, the reinforced metal buckling and twisting down under the unyielding force of gravity, damage and heat taking its strength away. You lean forward on the bike, leaving the seat as you crouch and prepare to jump. You ride up the new ramp you just made, feel the lurch of air, see the mechaniloid try to alter its trajectory.

Bike strikes chopper in a giant explosion, and you latch on a moment later with a T. Coil, already snapping your lance out and ramming it upwards at the whirling rotor. It wrenches and bites, feeling like you're tearing your arm out of socket, but before long the immense speed and the heat of your lance blade overcome the metal, and the rotor blades shear off, sending the chopper spiraling downward and out of control, firing every which way.

It deposits you on the fourth floor, tearing through the wall as it noses in, tumbling end over end as it skitters across and through the building.

Back at the "entrance" you just made, you stow your lance, and ready your weapons to move in.

You move past the sparking remains of the arachnoid attack chopper, still "alive" and trying to fire guns that no longer exist. It twitches its forelegs uselessly as you move past, examining the massive hole it's shored its body up against.

The base looks like a termite mound. There are holes everywhere, all floors, with sounds of combat here and there. For a moment, you get a sense of immense vertigo--how can you possibly expect to find Frog in this?

You hop across what looks to be a compromised elevator shaft, landing a floor down and a few security clearances away. On the side of a battle-scarred wall, you find a sign that apparently once indicated some of the places this elevator led. Unreadable now--it took a direct hit from a plasma shot, and now only a few letters on either side of the melted bronze plaque are all that's left.

You move forward through the hall, feeling increasingly lost, frustrated, and small--all the moreso when you finally come to a collapsed ceiling, blocking the way forward. At your feet, though, is another hole.

And down at the bottom of a deep, deep fall, is... web. Some kind of synthetic, fibrous polymer strands. You're momentarily panicked, but sigh in relief as you realize it hasn't tangled you up. You carefully clear the material and hop down to the floor below.

SIXTEENTH RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, a large wall-mount reads. SECURE LABS -- UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS FORBIDDEN.

You decide to take a minute to get your bearings, looking around the lab.

Even with the battle damage, the facility looks clean, almost sterile--high-glare lights and reflective surfaces, long rows of blue cylinders against one wall, a few similar columns in the midst of the wide, squat rooms. All around, long tubes and pipes run through the walls, all parallel, often behind clear viewpanes.

You round a corner and hear a sound from behind. You whirl around--

Only to stare at yourself in a glassy, glaring red optic.

A massive arachnid looms as you jump backwards, dropping down from the side of a tube and advancing on you--

"Now, now, there's no need for that. Stand down." The spider, mandibles clicking, suddenly stops, scuttling backwards on thick metal legs. A moment later, a blue, flickering hologram appears beside it, bearing a voice you realize you've heard before.

"Ah, Lieutenant Anode. We spoke two days ago. I see you’ve met our security measure--" he gestures almost lazily back at the massive spider with one tentacle, his hands resting on a terminal in the hologram. "--simply following its ordained routines. It works nicely, don’t you think?"

You look back at your own dismayed face in that soulless red optic. "Um. Yeah. You're--Commander Nautiler."

"Ah, yes, you remember. Good. However, the situation does not warrant relaxing our security clearance protocols. I can assure you we're quite secure here now. Isn't that right, Thesis?"

You hear faint, strangled yelling through the communicator.

Something in that makes your brain go a little numb and fuzzy--but then something clicks. "Wait, if you have comms--"

"16th's personal shortwave only, I'm afraid," Nautiler interrupts, just a touch of annoyance in his otherwise wholly lofty, unconcerned tone. "I've not heard any word since the attack commenced. I was contending with a pair of traitors of my own. One managed to self-destruct before he was subdued, the other--well, we're having a frank discussion about the maverick strategy here. Isn't that right, Thesis?"

More muffled screams (“Doppler is going to butcher y--”), before Nautiler turns back to you. "But really, Lieutenant, you must be going. Follow the spider, please."

His tone is clear--he’s not asking.

...Yeah, no, not today. "Lead the way," you manage with a shrug. Nautiler cuts the connection abruptly and lets the giant death mechaniloid escort you out.

It presents an elevator to you--whatever the destinations are, they're entirely unlabeled. It's undamaged, at least.

The spider waits expectantly for you to push a button, hovering just outside the doors and still within "menacing" range.

For lack of anything else to do, you simply opt for the ground floor, 1F. The ride up is quick but tense--the silence and solitude feels like a glass on a high shelf, waiting for the next loud bang to knock it down.

You emerge, as you expected, into ruin again. Ruins and silence. You turn back to examine the sign by the elevator, this one mercifully undamaged.

SECURE ELEVATOR -- PLEASE HAVE YOUR ID READY TO GAIN ADMITTANCE.

Beside that, though, is a floor listing.
NOTICE: Unless accompanied by base personnel and on officially endorsed business, no guests should attempt to gain access to any basement floor. If for whatever reason you need access, please see the front desk with your request and they will forward it to the relevant parties. Thank you.

You're never gonna find Frog like this--you need comms back. You take the elevator again, and head for the 11th floor.

Mid-way up, the entire building, ceiling to floor, rumbles. The elevator continues on as you catch your balance, the doors opening onto a gun fight.

"--said, keep your head down!"

Ahead is a large, unoccupied desk, the wall over it riddled with plasma scoring. Behind it is a half-destroyed glass wall, hung in several large sheets, the ones immediately in front having been shattered to pieces across the floor. Behind it is the remains of what was once probably a very nice office. Sheltering with their backs to you, a gun-line of Reploids sends shots downrange at an increasingly-battered chunk of the ceiling.

There's a break in the fire, and in the lull a single figure cut in a dashing red coat pops up, a buster pistol in his hand,

Another familiar face--this time, it's your navigator. Wellington snap-fires a trio of hastily-fired shots, one actually scoring a hit on the last attacker in the line, who goes down alongside two more of his fellows, a sizzling hole in his chest.

Right beside a maverick emblem.

On any other day, under any other circumstances, you might have met this with a grin and a quip, feeling right at home stepping out of that elevator and into a scene from an action movie.

Today, people you know are dead. Dead because of people like that row of mavericks, just hammering away at Wellington's position.

Fuck these people.

You don't even charge up, simply turning your cyclers on the line and sweeping them across them in a left-right scissor. Even with the reduced fire rate from the part swap you made, the high refire rate has blown them full of holes before they've even turned around. One poor bastard in the middle has enough time to turn and catch a quarter of rounds, plasma splashing across his chest as he staggers and explodes against his cover.

Schwarz would have been proud.

Silence falls across the room, and after a moment, Wellington's head slowly peeks around the corner.

"Hell's bells. Anode?"

"Heya," you offer, shaking the smoke from your buster lenses. "So what was their beef?"

He grins--a tired, shaky grin, the kind you see on people who were sure they were dead not a minute ago. "I'll overlook that one, Lieutenant. Damn good to see you. Go on, get up, we're clear."

After a moment, another pair of heads surface from behind the desk--two humans. One wears a hunter uniform--the other looks like some kind of press analyst, in a pantsuit. Both humans.

"God, it's good to see you," Wellington repeats, tucking away that buster pistol. "They just kept coming. What are you doing here?"

"I need to find my CO," you reply. "I figured if I could get comms back up..."

He nods. "Same thought. I had just managed to get a line to Rho open in one of the navigation rooms when they attacked. While I was stuck, they seem to have destroyed..." he casts a rueful glance around at his workplace. "...erm, everything."

>Let's go talk to Rho.

Three of the four had never played a Megaman game before. The one who had made Tar Harlequin, a smart supportish set up based fighter who coats someone in tar and lights them on fire with a flamethrower. There was Canada, who is basically an XCOM heavy, wielding a 20mm cannon and a recoilless rifle for the heavy fire power of the group. Hunter Pogona, the railgun and shotgun armed lizard. Also comes with a visual distortion field and stun net. BWQ, the bee with a solid slug round stinger, hella speed, a jetpack, and a saber. Its an interesting party crammed into the 1st Advance. All B rank.

After a moment's consideration, you grab one of the bodies by the scruff (you give it one last unhappy double tap, taking the head clean off), and drag it behind you, tossing it into the doors to keep it on your floor.

"Let's go see the wizard," you tell Wellington lightly, dusting off your hands.

He leads you off to a darkened room, lined with screens, numerous communication devices, and a single chair. The humans follow along nervously, near the back.

"Rho," Wellington starts, easing back into the chair. "You still with us?"

"I am well," a cold, neutral voice replies. "You are undamaged?"

"We caught some good luck, for a change," Wellsey says. "Though the floor is well and truly wrecked by now."

"Most of the building has suffered severe structural compromise."

"Too true," he says grimly. "What's left to do to get comms back up?"

"I am working to restore them as we speak. Unfortunately, all but hard lines such as this one are under heavy interference."

"What were we talking before? A relay?"

"I believe that remains our most expedient option. However, the prior problem remains."

"Mm. No one will know what frequency we're broadcasting on," he explains to you. "Our other option is clearing the standard operating lines, but thus far all we've been able to do is create mute breaks on the static."

You frown. "Reliably?"

"Yes," Rho directs at you, a disembodied voice coming from the screens, the speakers, and the ceiling. "Why?"

Can't be the best without this, you think to yourself dryly. "Until you can switch over, could you broadcast the new comm channel in Morse?"

"I...suppose we could. The hunters would likely need to look up the code, but..."

“It’s a plan, then. Three steps--morse and a substitute channel, then a relay on the standard channels to the substitute, and then full repair. We’ll be counting on you to guide the traffic, Rho.”
>>
>>42311156
“Understood. I will parcel out duties to the navigators as required.”

Wellington nods. “Roger. You know how best to use us. We’ll be ready.”

“I need to find Frog," you add.

“Hammer Frog, Commanding Officer, Fourth Overland,” Rho replies. “My last contact with him was fourteen minutes ago, in the first basement floor and heading down to the hangars.”

“Did he say what his plan was?”

“He had none.”

“Oh.”

“I believe he may have been attempting to return to the Fourth campus when he was waylaid. I do not see him on either floor, but the camera coverage is intermittent.“

"And..." you pause. "Has there been any word about Major Schwarzhund?"

"The Major has not returned from his last mission. It has been well over 72 hours, and at this point he is officially declared missing in action. Given the timing of this maverick attack, it is likely there is a correlation to his disappearance. He will be presumed killed in action if no word arrives within twenty-four hours."

"...Oh," you manage.

"For whatever it's worth, I'm sorry, Anode," Wellington offers. "A lot of good people are gone today, and we're not done yet."

"Yeah. I need to go see if I can find one of them. Can you give me basement clearance, Rho?"

"Your current credentials should be sufficient, but in light of the attack, I will attempt to provide assistance where necessary with bypassing security."

"Thanks."

You kick the body out of the elevator and head to the hangars. When you saw Schwarz listed as missing, you tried to quash it, pass it off, it's Schwarz. He'll be back, he'll always be back.

You tried not to think about it. You try not to think about it now.

The doors to the hangars open, and you emerge down deep. The sudden stillness is disquieting--you hadn't realized it, but the entire building was rumbling now and then, and you had gotten used to feeling it shudder.

Now, though, beneath the ground floor, there's nothing. Overhead lamps hang high above, casting neutral, even, artificial light down on rows and rows of massive hunter transports. Your access elevator comes out between two of them. You cross forward slowly, hand brushing a small rail next to a large loading zone. A sign on the wall indicates that you're actually near the exit point of the hangars, where a roof is built over the otherwise-open top.

And up ahead, you see a small, blue, familiar figure.

You peek around the edge of one of the transports to see him talking to another Reploid, this one clad in purple armor.

"Mac, where have you been?" Commander X asks. His eyes flit and he turns away from you, looking out the other direction.

In that moment, with an arm hidden from view, you see Mac engage his buster.

Do we have our Tumult Shells? We could use those to block any attacks, while yelling at X to look out, or better, duck, dodge, anything that would prompt an immediate response instead of 'who me?' and still getting shot because he didn't realize.

This raises a decent point. We don't need X to hesitate and still get shot in the back. Fire a tumult shell and yell 'get down sir!' instead of look out.

depends if it works and we don't mess up. If X is ok, Zero won't have to save him and both can help clear out the base. In short, it frees up BOTH hunters and thus makes things go faster.
>>
>>42312861
Having 2 S class hunters sweeping the building instead of having one captured and the other on a rescue mission is a rather significant change, I'd say.

One of the reasons everything went bad is our best Hunters were out of commission. X was captured and Zero was rescuing him.

The next few seconds are a slideshow.

You yelled something--movie reference. Mr. President.

X turned, jumping back cautiously--

The tumult shell sailing out far, far too slow to catch the attack--

Mac's aim spoiled by your shout, the instant he fired--

A second shot as you try to twist away, washing over you, crackling across your armor and running down your channels into the ground harmlessly--

--And then you snap back to your senses. Some sort of electrical stun weapon--no effect on you. Trailing curses, Mac flees, X leveling his buster on the traitor hunter.

"Lieutenant!" He exclaims. "Are you okay?"

"Fine," you reply. "I'm zap-proof. What about you?"

X nods. "I'm fine--thank you. I should have kept my guard up."

A moment later, a loud boom runs through the building--ceiling tiles shake loose and fall around you. A moment later, something else, a figure cut in red and gold, landing in a crouch not far from you.

X speaks first. "Zero?"

Landing on his feet, the Red Reploid looks from face to face. "X. Anode--glad you made it out of there, after all. What happened?"

"Mac--"

"Doppler--"

You and X trade a look, and he motions for you to go first.

Keep it simple. He stole our zappy, we woke up in the 4th when things have gone nuts, 2 of our fellow 4ths have been killed, 2 have gone mad(tanker and Seven) and Seven took copies of the 4th's weapons data. Currently trying to meet up with Frog who is suppose to be heading to the 3rd Basement.

Good summary.

Also it occurs to me that the weapon data would probably include information and stuff on our zappy thing too, so they'll know how it works and stuff.

"I guess everyone knows by now, Doppler went mav," you begin, trying to keep it short and sweet. "My sister and I had just taken out some high-end guard together, we fried Limited's power systems, and then--" you look down at the off-color patch on your armor plate. "Doppler, um, 'took' a part from me. My electrical systems. I don't know what happened after that."

"You can piece the basics together, I'm sure," Zero notes grimly. "But right now, we don't have time."

"Yeah. Here's what I know. Seven and Tanker Tigershark went maverick. Schwarz is missing, almost all of us are wounded or dead. Rho is getting comms back up, she's using Morse code to transmit the frequency she's operating on."

"All the units are in like that," Zero replies. "X, you should get back to the 17th."

"But what about--"

"We both know Mac's not the best use of your time right now," he chides. X looks taken aback, but nods.

Another earthshaking rumble, and this time a few of the ceiling lights come down with it. "That's my problem," Zero says darkly. "They have a giant attack 'loid up there tearing the base apart."

"I need to find my CO," you say. "Last anyone saw, he was down here."

"All the ships are still grounded," Zero notes, looking around. "So he didn't leave that way. There's a backup command room here, with Rho restoring comms maybe you can try to get ahold of him there."

"There's still Mac," X insists.

Zero looks at you. "A-rank, right?"

"Uh--yeah, but--"

"I'm going to be blunt. Mac's a chump. If you run into him, you can handle him. If we find Frog, we'll appraise him of his unit's status and get in touch."

"I'd appreciate it," X adds as an afterthought. "But--Zero's right. I need to see to the 17th."

So we've already broken canon pretty swiftly. Now that X wasn't captured by Mac and Zero has to divert to save him, both can be retasked to other matters.
>>42314452 has a point, though. Anode's not nearly as dangerous without his capacitors. We're going in with a major handicap.

"...All right, I'll deal with him," you nod. "If he turns up."

X manages a sad half-smile. "Thank you, Lieutenant."

"I need to get back up there," Zero says, "so--"

You fire a T. Coil into the ceiling and cut it loose, leaving a handy rope.

"...Uh, right. Thanks," Zero says with a nod.

The two take their separate ways, leaving you with directions to the control room Zero mentioned.

Up a small ramp (narrowly dodging yet more falling debris), you encounter some resistance, for the first time since gunning down the mavericks in the 5th's offices. Earth Commanders fly low orbits, screening the approach over those red-armored gun walkers--the custom Head Gunner mechaniloids. You burn down a pair of missiles with rapid fire before opening up on the 'loid, hopping backwards as it lobs a mortar back your way. Finally after way too damn many shots, it goes down, leaving you to turn your attention on the flyer overhead. That clear, you make your way forward to another elevator shaft... this one devoid of an elevator.

You look up just in time to see a massive spiked ball drop down the chute, windows shattering with each cacophonous impact as it bangs around the walls. Timing it is tough--fortunately, having the coils helps you quickly zipline up before the mechaniloid depositing spiked balls of Fuck and You down the chute can get past its third drop. You shoot it down for good measure, and reach the top of the shaft. Ahead is the room where you might, supposedly, be able to find your damn boss.

Right then. Some of the characters here have made appearances. However, the ones that I just tossed in are:
Bones-Geist that made a name for himself and giant Megaman nerd, A Rank Counterintelligence Expert. Second. Modeled paint job off Skullman, works on application of Maverick data into a collection of weapons he has stylized after the Robot Masters, several of which are just data slaved weapons made into useful showpieces, but with other pieces he has made more akin to the Misericorde. Currently has maybe half the set. Likes spooking people. Currently has sold one PC a gun modeled to look like Spark Man's hands, calls it the Spark Magnum, and uses Spark Mandrill's VWES entity.

Sickle Fruitbat-Sonar expert, night recon whose trick is similar to Slide's-his wings can channel a saber blade across them, basically making him very dangerous in a melee if need be, and he has some skill to back it up. Scared of Bones.

Oberon-one of the researchers in the 16th, and the adoptive "father" of the PC Pandora. Is a worried dad, but proud, and works under his wife, Titannia. Recently lost a lab partner, who if going to end up being the flower headed thief in X5 whose name currently eludes me. Made his darling little girl a rail cannon designed like a bow, which can build up a full charge to sling projectiles with.

Seeking Swan-supposed to be Huskin Femcer's wife, didn't know enough on her to get the right first name probably. Loves music, got into a piano showdown with Negative
>>

>>
Cumulus Squirrel-7th, experimental weather control and stealth unit. Annoyed that she doesn't have an actual flight system, instead having to rely on her weather control and glide flaps. Vents by pranking the 7th with her buddies...

Blade Archaeopteryx-currently mute due to a nasty blow with a ceratanium knife caught her in the throat, waiting for the parts to come in for her new voicebox. Knife fighter, she fires her feathers as a hail of impossibly sharp blades and uses them in melee. Runs a few minor gambling rings among the rank and file.

Laser Dactyl-enjoys working with machines, and enjoys making trouble. Special weapon is piercing lasers, similar to Lockon's. Likes to hit the Nitrogen after a long day's work, but if there are shenanigans to be had, and machines to dismantle and reassemble, he's your robot pterodactyl. Besides, he's pretty sure he can fix that after!

Crush Griffon-7th, high ranking member. Got most of his paint job fried off in Vienna, got a new one that was courtesy of Cumulus much to his chagrin, basically bright, neon pink letters calling him a goat fucker among other things. He is currently rather upset about that.

Glimmer Mockingjay-7th, basically a tattoo nut who makes consistent use of the paintwe machines, and filmed a PC after they stripped down to their endoconstruction possessing frames in the middle of the airstrip of their own volition. Poor bastard now has a loop of him streaking across base in a photoshopped speedo as Baywatch music plays, everything in slow motion.
>>
Nurse Shark-16th, Lifesaver Division. Gets called in for specialty work, and likely called in to make Tanker sit down and be good for the lifesavers due to mastered matronly glare, similar to how Dodo kept him out of trouble before...this. Don't sass her coworkers and she's a nice lady though.

Venkmann-rival of one of the PCs, 16th, is currently modeled after Venkmann from Ghostbusters movies and specializes in new mechaniloid development. Has inspired one PC to make a Yellow Devil like mechaniloid to kick his ass in the underground Battlebot like competition they use to test their designs for mass production. Crankshaft enters his Dino Tank in for "stress testing" the designs. May also be to slime Venkmann
