If RE: lizard quest canon is valid here, golems are definitely a thing, and they can probably be used with a scrying spell to effectively act as a puppet.

You let your eyes droop shut for a moment, yawning.

The lady- The dormitory mistress, now that you remember- Looks meaningfully at your legs protruding from the blanket.

You nod, understanding.

She's actually smiling at you for once. That's new.

"No, none of the materials here are any good for experiments."

"Everything blows up, or burns up. And none of the students want to help."

And so, just like that, Lyra left.

It seems like a nice statement. Like the kind you'd find at the end of a book. Or maybe the beginning of one.
If you don't give it much thought, it feels heroic almost. Like someone had done something amazing, and then left without accepting thanks, or a hero walking into the sunset.

It doesn't really encompass things like 'Largely responsible for turning you into some sort of spider/elf hybrid' or 'foisted wolf pack on you'.

You roll yourself out of bed and rise with a groan.

Breakfast is simple, if a bit more expensive than it used to be.
You've definitely got more of a taste for meat than you used to. And you're definitely eating more. You'd have probably chewed a hole through your wallet if it hadn't been for- well. Everything came from the same root, in the end.

The hidden class wasn't nearly as simple as you'd initially thought.

It'd been a relief when you realized you couldn't stick to walls or make webs or anything. You'd thanked the gods and gone on your way.
Of course, with a few weeks practice with the wolves, you now know you'd done it all completely wrong and could quite likely do those things, but you still don't want to.

And aside from your ability to borrow monster powers (With an accompanying physical change), There was the whole physical bit.
Maybe it was because the class originated from Lyra. But the end result was an overall increase in ability. You jumped two whole ranks overnight. The jealousy was palpable.

It wasn't easy to deal with, though.
The changes, not the jealousy.

If people want to waste their time sneering and being bitter, they can go right the hells ahead.

The wolves are waiting for you, like always.
You made sure to grab a few decent jobs last night- You need to keep yourself and Lyra's pack fed, after all.
Though that's only hard if you want to eat at the inn.

They shift as soon as they see you, and you focus on them briefly, letting a wave of power wash through you.

It starts at the top of your head, sweeping through your body, leaving your fingers and toes tingling- Your ears turn to match theirs, a tail sprouting from your spine to trail behind you as you move.

Dammit, none of yor clothes fit properly after that first week.
And free clothes meant volunteering, and volunteering meant-

Sometimes, you really miss Lyra.

You bolt into the woods, sending the wolves searching for the day's targets.

You can smell the creature long before you can see it.

You won't lie.
Being able to just deal with the enhanced senses from working with the wolves- let alone using them- took you an entire week.

You still have to make sure you're untransformed before you go to bathe. Even the hallway near the men's bath is a death sentence.

A boar- nearly your height, and with a massive pair of curling horns to match it's tusks- bursts free of the underbrush, harried by the wolves and pounding towards you.

Before, you'd have been up a tree as fast as your legs could carry you.
But now...

You dance out of the way even as you release an arrow, circling the creature easily, turning it from a pig to a porcupine.
You might not be a full wolf, but gods, you're fast with them.

The pig squeals and screams, apparently having enough of this- it turns to flee, hooves carving up the forest floor as it runs.

You leisurely switch weapons- from your trustworthy bow (whose strings you had to replace so many times that you nearly cried blood) to a crossbow you've got on loan.

From Elle, specifically.

The whole weapon thrums in your hands as it releases, and the bolt catches the beast in the shoulder, tearing it from it's feet and spinning it sideways, where it collides with a tree and slumps to the ground.

The pack is on it in seconds, making sure it's dead via an application of teeth to throat.

You relax, rubbing your arms to try and bring back the feeling in them.
You're barely strong enough to use the crossbow as it is, though you have to say it's definitely worth it.
