>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the hero class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

>You have escaped an underground dungeon complex in the Dain Empire, and are currently trying to make it back to Heim's capital, and then to Neir's from there.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

>Voting periods will last an average of ten to fifteen minutes, but this may be increased, decreased, or generally changed at any given moment based on voter turnout.

You didn't have that much time to dwell upon your new relationship that morning, especially since you were informed of the particular significance of Dama's return to Rakche.

Monica was the one to wake you two up, much less loudly than Yvette does, but also much less patiently. After you and Zoe were awoken, you were led straight to that familiar meeting room, where Eva, Quidel, his uncle Antiman, Yvette, Garrus, Salia, Vaga, his surviving "friends," and Dama either already are or pile in shortly after your own appearance, along with a few probable knights you don't really recognize. Monica and Zoe end up seated next to Salia, which you take as an indication that you and Yvette should be beside your own charge. You don't really pay attention to how everyone else is seated, but Eva sits near you, presumably for the purpose of sitting semi-near Garrus.

"Uh, welcome back, Dama. Is this about your brother being back in the region, or..."

"No, my presence is simply a present," Vaga chimes in, "though I'm told yours is actually pretty significant, sister?"

Salia asks her friend, "did you find out what acting-chief Ahua's planning?"

Dama, visibly fuming at the question, barks out, "yeah, and I can't believe people are still listening! Grr, I should've known that this was why she tried to tie you to the Tarvosians..."

And now Quidel is shouting, "what? What's why?!" He turns towards Antiman, "uncle, do you know what she's talking about?"

"I fear that I might have a decent suspicion, Quidel," he says, "but... Let us hear her out anyway."

"Our sister, she's always talked so much about wanting to take Tarvos Valley back, after all these centuries spent up in the mountains... She's finally riled them up into planning an invasion!"

"With just our people?" Vaga asks, "there's... There's really no way that the Garou would be able to win that, doesn't she realize?"

"Regardless," Antiman says, "the losses on either side for such an attack... I can't imagine either of us holding back a thing. Dama, correct? When was this invasion planned?"

"They're... traveling through the mountains, but they expect to get there in about five days. I would have come sooner, but I couldn't get away until very recently!"

"Can we stop this at all? Get them to turn back?"

"Not as long as our sister's the top dog," Vaga shakes his head, "it looks like, however it happens, it will end bloodily..."

Almost in unison, you, Eva, Quidel, and Vaga exclaim "Dain!"

Antiman says, "unlikely that they would be able to get help handily across the desert. We haven't even heard word that they're coming."

"But..." Eva lifts up a finger, as though trying to make a point, "but Lars had convinced our grandfather to put the Emperor's Flight through training in the NORTHERN mountains. For the most part, people wouldn't dare travel through there, risk ticking off manaketes by tromping through their sacred grounds, but if anyone was bold or brash enough to do it, it'd be the Emperor's Flight."

Yvette says, "so what you're saying is we could be expecting an invasion through the North at any time."

Monica closes her eyes, "then... even moving our forces into Tarvos Valley could leave Rakche sitting ducks."

Garrus pipes in at long last, "b-but we can't just leave the Tarvosians and Garou to wipe one or the other out! It's... dad, and our whole lineage up to Queen Hautclere would all not even hesitate to help..."

"If by help you mean kill a few more of us and throw the rest back into the mountains," one of the garou girls (whose names you don't know) speaks up, looking quite agitated.

"I'm... Not exactly the best-versed on politics, but why couldn't we just let Garou... exist in Tarvos Valley? At the very least, it would-"

"The Tarvosian Nomads still aren't over our ancestors' actions under the support of the Gerxel Empire," Vaga interrupts, "and no one's been able to tell them that you guys didn't help try to kill our mother, let alone that she's been turned into a Deadlord..."

"Wait, what?!" Dama sounds... Well, surprised. "I mean... She'd been really reclusive ever since recovering after publicly abdicating her chieftanship to Ahua, but... You're saying she was dead that whole time?!"

"Regardless," Antiman says, "while allowing their return to Tarvos Valley would be... Ideal, it couldn't be done fast enough to avert Ahua's actions, and in fact might only make it easier for her and whoever is accompanying her to get in."

Garrus starts, "S-so what you're saying is..."

"Whatever we're going to end up doing, Ahua needs to be..." Dama winces. "...needs to be dealt with, unless we want a massacre on somebody's hands."

With only a tinge of the same degree of upsetness, Vaga nods. "If we could at least... Dama, I assume you know the route they're planning on taking," Dama nods, Vaga continues, "then we could cut them off there, and... Hopefully negotiate."

"Unless we wish to risk General Derrick warming the throne for our enemies when we return," Antiman says, "we can't risk putting our much of our might into this countermeasure, meaning that if things turn violent... It would be dangerous."

Would it be too meta to piece together that Ahua is the traitor? Also if she's in league with Bolse, then if we got Bovis to come with us, maybe he could blow her out as a traitor.
Depending on how much Ellen knows, but they just mentioned the queen was turned so I don't think it's too big of a leap.
>>
>>42245478
>Would it be too meta to piece together that Ahua is the traitor?
No. It's already well known that she's the traitor. She locked up Vaga back at Dungeon Aum with us and told everyone about her masterplan to boot.
>>
>>42245478
>Would it be too meta to piece together that Ahua is the traitor?

You ask who would be in this specific group.

"I... I think I should be there," Garrus says, "so... Members of my personal guard. right..?"

"I don't imagine Ahua's been told about my little vacation yet," Eva states, "so maybe I could confuse things a bit if I can get to them beforehand."

"You won't throw us in a brig if I tag along, right?" Vaga says, looking concernedly at his three surviving haremites and hoping none of them say anything similar. Dama is the only female garou to offer to come along.

Salia is the next to speak up, saying, "I'm going along too."

"Absolutely not," Monica is quick to respond, "you can barely fire a bow. If things turned violent, Zoe and I would be irresponsible guardians for letting you come along in the first place. We may as well just wait here for the same results."

"Monica..."

I almost feel like the best option is convincing Garrus to stay here and let Salia go. Garrus has the strongest fighters to defend the city, and Salia can get there quickly by air. But then the question is whether or not Salia and guards could handle it, because technically we should have to stay here and the most experienced fighters would be here too. Maybe send Yvette with them?
>>
>>42245869
>>42245871
"But then what about the entire reason we're not sending in our whole army? If the Emperor's Flight showed up on our doorsteps, the princess would be right here."

Monica closes her eyes. "I... Yvette, what do you think?"

Yvette responds, "I think you're the head of Princess Salia's guard. What you think is the safest choice for her is, frankly, in your hands."

"She could just go back to staying with my family," Quidel suggests. "I mean, that's... normally how it is anyway, and I assume we're not playing like we're gonna just get steamrolled by Ahua."

"...point taken. We'll accompany you into the valley, then part ways to leave the princess with the Tarvosian Nomads as per the norm."

Salia shoots you a thankful look before taking on a contemplative expression. Is she trying to figure out how to be allowed to keep tagging along?

"Regardless," Antiman says, "you will need to travel quickly in order to intercept Ahua in five days' time. Depending on where, exactly, they plan on exiting the mountains into the valley, it may already be too late."

Dama is quick to point out where she said they would enter the valley, however, and you find that you'll have enough time to get there in... Three days, assuming nothing holds you all up.

It's decided that you'll leave the following morning, and shortly afterwards the meeting lets out.

He's a genuinely alright guy and all, but gods Miles can get full of himself (full of his team's collective self?). Anyway, you ask him what Asra and Bryce were up to yesterday.

"Ah, that. See, we also dabble in bounty hunting if we're in the proper area, and we'd heard that a notorious smuggler was in the city on a business deal. That night, you actually properly managed to get to bed, instead of pissing off everyone in the barracks.

The following morning, the royal siblings' combined personal guard, Eva, and the garou siblings are getting ready to leave. It seems like Vaga was unable to convince his haremites to stay behind, judging by their also running up and joining the crowd, and Victoria, carrying a heavy-looking pack of her own, also approaches you and Zoe.

Over the next three days, a few revelations occur to you: Stefyn has been seeing Dama for some time now, Mitchell was the one who taught Victoria to pick locks as thanks for slaying a rival of his during her revolution (she showed him the basics of archery in turn), and you learn from Quidel that Salia has been taking a whole lot of notes on various things, and according to Zoe has started practicing archery in earnest again in recent times.

If we did pick up magic, what class would we be? Some kind of custom magic hero class that uses magic for physical reinforcement?
>>
>>42249291
You would've been part of the Mage Fighter class from FE4, like I decided Corneria is. Not sure if you would've been the staff-wielding variant or not.

She's actually a reasonably proficient fencer, but she prefers her magic for obvious reasons when she absolutely must get her hands dirty.
>>
>>42249324
That does sound pretty cool.

Are we restricted to class weapons or just whatever we learn

You feel like you've mostly moved past Stefyn's existence driving you up a wall, ever since... well, everything to do with that fellow Simon. When he held onto his animosity towards you, it got everyone in that complex killed.

You can only deduce that Mitchell has had one hell of a life, but feel like he won't be prone to sharing facts about himself on the fly. The curiosity gets to you a bit.

Also getting to you is whatever the hell Salia is planning, since if she's been practicing archery again since before you found out about the Garou, it couldn't just be a ploy to be allowed to come along.

It inspires you to practice your own alternate weapon more intently in the next few days, nearly to what Biff would refer to as "B-Rank," but not quite there.

Speaking of Biff, he claims at one point while you, Zoe, and Victoria are hanging around him, Byron, and Nat that he and his green-armored counterpart should be as powerful as full-fledged paladins soon. Not quite yet, but... Soon. He also remarks that he's not sure if you've even seen him and Byron in action.

Reese is also working out, trying his hand at all physical weapon types.

Eva wound up flying off for her part of the plan two days in.

I want to say "class weapons, with variation if it's reasonable in-universe." Also, the class sets themselves aren't always the same from character to character (like I said, even just with Mage Fighters, some can use staves like Corneria, while some can't like that prison guard who seemed to think Ellen was a pirate).

Also, if Ellen was hypothetically in a situation where she was disarmed and cornered by some fellow, and a lance was on the ground nearby her, she wouldn't be arbitrarily not allowed to pick it up and poke the guy with it. If she wanted to fire an arrow at someone, though, that would be a much more difficult thing for her to do on the fly, and would probably fail.

Not sure if or when that would even come up, though.

>Fucking -- I bet that one couple wants to make a fucking Rune Sword. You guys should have voted to go check it out.

We could of been a fighter mage, and we could of gotten a really cool sword. I bet we missed out on a lot of other cool stuff too.

You did speak to her shortly before she departed, in fact. She was in the midst of seeing Garrus off personally, and she was saying to him, "-and when I get back, I'll tell you all about how it went, maybe even show you the ropes to wyvern-riding with Medeus in case your family dragon calms the hell down and realizes your brother's been out of the running for king of Neir for eight years now."

"Er, right, my, er, brother... Lars..."

"What, you worried about potentially facing him?"

"Aren't you? Honestly, part of me just... wanted to be out of the city in case he was there when it was attacked. Now that he's got Khozen, I, er, wouldn't put it past him..."

"Hey, hey, I at least know for a fact he won't kill you or Salia. He hated your dad, not you guys."

"I... Yeah, I guess so. Y'know, I do feel sort of... reassured, since you've been here. Sorry I freaked out when we first met..."

"Hey, hey, no skin off my back..." The redhead turns and sees you, "oh, hey, Muscles, er, Ellen. I was just saying goodbye to his highness~."

I can't say it was a Rune Sword, but what I had in mind for the Wyrmslayer+Curse Ring+Devil Sword is, in short, really fucking good.

You'll probably get back to Rakche soon enough, but the primary dilemma with the weapon being made is what's already been stated: It'll be a reasonably long time without your two special swords and getting ill around necromancers again.
>>
>>42249775
What we need, I think, is a sword that basically lets us channel the effects of different tomes through it -- kind of like how when we met Riga as Zoe, she mentioned her flame lance as allowing her to channel her magical aptitude into it for shit.

Something like that would be hella cool to me, at least.
>>
>>42249775
>You'll probably get back to Rakche soon enough, but the primary dilemma with the weapon being made is what's already been stated: It'll be a reasonably long time without your two special swords and getting ill around necromancers again.

And this is why I wasn't too fond of letting either of those things go. All we'll have left is a Steel Sword and an Iron Axe (I think). We'll soon be facing Garous and much later on Wyrmriders. Let's see what else we can get from the spoils of battle (if we live) and then make the sword happen. Honestly, I'd like to know more about our heritage, so here's hoping we'll get some hints in the future.
>>
>>42249661
I really just want basic training with everything, even if it's not in class. Not necessarily proficiency, but enough to not hurt ourselves
>>42249798
That's exactly what I was thinking. No firebolts but augmentation.
>>
>>42249798
If you can scrounge up another magical component for the enchanter to throw into the mix, then I suppose it could probably be a dual-purpose ranged-MAG/up front-STR sword.
>>
>>42249752
Chuckling, you say, "muscles?"

"Yeah, yeah, I like muscles a lot. You'd be surprised to hear it, but Garrus is actually pretty muscular himself, on account of throwing axes around so easy!"

The prince turns a bit red, "h-how did you know that?"

"Well, I guess it's a combination of reasoning it out and that you just told me." Eva smirks, stretching her arms while continuing, "but anyway, yeah, you need me for anything before I shove off?"

"Er, yeah, one thing, actually. Bit of a private matter."

"Ooh, saucy. Anyway, guess you won't be THE last person I spoke to before meeting up with Ahua, your majesty. Next time you see me, though, I'll have made negotiations so easy Ahua's gonna practically be begging to return home! Maybe then, we can discuss the future of Neir a bit further..."

You don't see the expression she presumably shoots him after that, but he just sort of nods, nervous as ever.

Finally, when you get far enough out, Eva asks, "what's up?"

"Well, on our way back here, we ran into this older woman passing through Sharlow Village, wanted something to do with a wyvern rider who'd been captured when Roderick died."

"That sounds pretty weird," she says, arms folded behind her head as she paces.

"She called herself Lex, but when your sister saw her, she called her 'Aunt Lexi' or something of the sort."

"Well, that's... Well, I reckon that's exactly what it sounds like, then!"

"Yeah, but since she seemed to be helping us keep your sister out of the hands of Dain's guys, no one's ratted her out yet... I just want to know what she's up to?"

She exhales/whistles, stopping in place, "honestly, I don't have a clue. Last I'd heard, she was supposedly spearheading some foreign aid thing in Noba, didn't even know anything about our plans to get out of the country. Wouldn't be worried what Aunt Alexia's doing, but... I dunno why she would be in Heim to begin with either."

I've probably misheard this or maybe it was just my imagine but is she a queen? Also, and this has me a bit worried, but I gave Roderick's killer lance to her. Before I handed it to her, I told her what she was going to use it for, and she told me that she intended on using it on someone. Now, I don't think it's going to be me, but I'd like to know your thoughts on the lance's intended target.

"Er, a couple more things, on the note of your aunt. Is she a queen, or did I just mishear that, or what?"

"Well, she was the queen of Neir, of course, but lost the title a little while before Paula was born for... Well, for obvious reasons. She doesn't like to talk about why she turned on Neir, so whyever it was is between her and Lars."

"And, uh, also, she had me give her Captain Roderick's lance when we met. She said she had some sort of long-term plan with taking possession of it, but... No word on what, exactly."

"Figure it's just there to lend credibility to however she says Roderick's squadron bit it."

"I see. I guess that makes sense... Uh, thanks for your time, and be careful out there."

"Hey, I've got senses no man, woman, or wolf could outdo! I'll be fine, I promise!"

You very briefly, very heavily consider telling him about his mother, but you figure that it isn't really the best place or time, and that you're not really the right person to. Garrus notices your pause, awkwardly clearing his throat, before you finally answer, "oh, yeah, sorry. Uh, yeah, I'm... Not sure how it went. Eva's kinda weird like that, you know?"

"Yeah, I get you. She's... intense, at times."

Changing the subject, you ask him a question relevant to your earlier thoughts, "I've never actually heard anyone say anything beyond the whole 'betrayal' thing about her, besides princess Kia, so I can't help but wonder. What's your mom like?"

He looks a bit surprised to hear your question, before finally responding, "well, I... We were close, her and I. She was that way with Lars, too, but... everyone fawned over Lars, honestly. Crown prince, magical prodigy, 'why haven't we made him an axe already,' all of that stuff. And with Salia running off a lot even as a little kid, apparently to meet with Dama with Monica... She and Yvette were really the only people who didn't just think of me as the lesser brother, insisted there was... Something to me. Ah, she and Yvette were always close, too. Apparently they knew each other since before mom married dad, but I never heard the story on that one. Honestly, I... I still don't understand why she left. Why she did what she did. I mean, Lars never got on the best with our dad, and he was only twelve towards the end of the war when he and mom defected, but... Honestly, it made me happy to hear Eva say she's doing alright in Dain, but... I wish I could talk to her again, I guess. Don't even know about what."

>A. Do you resent her at all

She's, er, certainly forward, but she's grown on me a lot since we met, definitely. Apparently mom talked about me a lot to her, too, so she has those same really high opinions of me from the start... It's, uh, it's always nice when people believe in me."

You... You really do have so much potential, and even more of it already realized than you... Realize."

"I'm..." Garrus smiles, "thank you, Ellen."

"It's only the truth, your highness. Er, on that previous subject of Eva... What do you make of that crush of hers?"

"O-oh, er, that... I'm... still not sure if she's serious about that, but a lot of people think it's weird, but... IS it weird that I... Wouldn't be opposed to the idea, someday?"

"Not my place to judge, prince Garrus. We should... probably get some rest first, but I wanted to go over some stuff with Yvette really quickly."

"Oh, uh, yeah, you're probably right... Er, Yvette's on the West end of the campsite, least last I saw."

With that, the prince is off to bed, and you're off to speak to another of your myriad of mentors.

"Oh, Ellen. Restless as well? I would suggest getting to rest quickly, since we'll be dropping Salia off in the midday when a group of Tarvosians pass by, unless she's somehow convinced Monica to let her stay with us by then. Now may be your last night with Zoe for some time."

"So you've heard about that?"

"More than heard about. I... I've Met her. That is to say I met ex-queen Alexia, in Sharlow Village of all places. She... actually helped us protect Princess Kia and the rest from Dracozombies and then... Left. Princess Kia called her 'Aunt Lexi,' so I'm certain that..."

"Alexia..."

"And, uh, you know how she had another daughter, Paula, when she was in Dain? I... I think they turned her into a Necromancer, have her fly around with a Wyvern Lord bodyguard. Only Katina and I saw their new necromancer, everyone else just knows she's a little kid, but... She had blue ringlets."

"I... I see. Thank you for keeping this news from breaking out tactlessly. I'll find out what to do with it myself. As for you, just... Go, meet with Zoe. Put this out of your mind for the moment."

"Yes, ma'am."

Following Yvette's instructions, you crawl into your tent with your girlfriend, claiming that she'd stayed up waiting for you. You apologized, pulled each other closer, and though your evening is ultimately chaste, you're still able to enjoy each other's company, embrace, and the sweet nothings you exchange.
