You, being studious as usual, decide to head to the Academy and study. You decide on checking out a book based on basic Genjutsu and it's explanations. When you look through it, you see that it contains information about one of the techniques you know, the False Place technique. There's information about several other Genjutsu based on affecting different senses. If you learned them all, you could produce false scents, sounds, and even sensations like pleasure or pain if you get good enough.

The library is empty, and you sit down and continue to pour over the book for a couple more hours. You get the feeling that you more completely understand the techniques inside. You can pay extra attention to one of them now, and study hard to remember it. If you do, you can train that jutsu later. Since you have a better understanding of the book now, you don't have to study as long to learn the next technique.

You head straight for the training field, not wanting to waste any time. It's only a short walk before you begin to arrive, although you can hear screaming in the distance as you approach. When you come through the trees, you can see a tall blonde woman who looks to be about the same age as Ten-Ten. She's shaking her fist and yelling at a bored looking kid that you went to class with. Shikadai Nara. Apparently he's supposed to be a genius like his dad, but from what you can tell he's got no motivation at all.

The woman keeps yelling. "Shikadai! You have to train if you want to survive the Chunin exams, do you know what some of these Genin can do? You can't just rely on your shadow like your dad, he's very lucky to be alive!"

Shikadai looks over at you, and frowns. "Help me."

The woman turns and glares at you. Her eyes tense up when she sees your headband, and she points her finger at you.

"You there! You're a genin that went to class with my son! Why don't you train with him? That's what you're here for, right?"

You smile, and step away from him, taking a combat stance. "So you're saying that this is going to be a battle of tactics? That sounds like a nice change of pace."

Shikadai smiles as well. "It's the only kind of battle I know. Let's start!"

He waits for your first move, and you do the same to him. The both of you are squaring off in the training field, waiting for a moment of weakness. You decide to be the first one to go on the offensive, and try to maneuver around him and get him from his blindspot, and then play on his paranoia.

You form a handseal, and use the Clone jutsu. Four identical illusions of you appear side by side, and Shikadai smirks. "Nice try, but it's a little obvious that the sun isn't casting a shadow on your clones. They're just illusions. I won't lie, Takeshi, I may be lazy, but I do have a trick or two up my sleeve that doesn't just include the Academy Jutsu.

You grin. "Me too."

You and your clones all form hand seals rapidly, although you're the only one who is actually casting a jutsu. You use False Place, and cast an illusion on Shikadai! Although nothing has changed from your perception, you've altered his so that all of your clones have shadows.

Your group scatters, running past him. He tries to throw several kunai as you run past, but they whiff through one clone and miss the rest. You caught him by surprise.

You dive into the cover of the trees and watch Shikadai. He seems to have started kneeling on the ground, forming a handsign or something. What do you do?

You're safe, in cover a fair distance away. It seems like he has no escape from your jutsu. Clouds begin to pull in overhead, casting shadows on the ground. You look up in surprise, wondering why the wind was acting so strange. Gentle breezes are pulling in from every direction, seemingly gathering clouds to this place.

You wonder if that was the purpose of the jutsu he's preforming. You're not sure how it could help him, but you do know it needs to be stopped. You activate False Sound Jutsu, and create the sound of a kunai whistling through the air from behind Shikadai. You watch him flinch and turn around, ducking. He seems to be open for just a moment!

You quickly reach into your weapon bag and toss three Senbon, covered by the torso of your clone. Before Shikadai can even defend from the illusion, his arm is peppered with needles. You hear him yell out in pain, but when you look again, you only see a log with a needle sticking out of it. Apparently he expected a sneak attack, but not one so rapid fire. He escaped, but you got a couple of hits in him.

You move from your cover, assuming that it's been compromised. You put your skills to the test and start to put up kunia traps, activated by trip wires. They're spread out all around the training area, and are designed to fall into people's blindspots as they trip the wires. It doesn't take you long, and you haven't heard anything from Shikdai. One thing you have noticed is that the clouds overhead have continued to thicken, and grow darker. What's even stranger is that you can see a border of light not far from the training area.

Shikadai must be using his jutsu that moves the clouds. You start to search through the forest to stop his plans, minding your own traps. You hear him activate one, and note that he screams out in pain. You return to the trap and see his outline down in the dark forest below.

He seems to have kunai sticking out of his back, and is barely standing. What do you do?

He doesn't seem to turn his head in the direction that you make the noise, and you assume that he's figured out he's under a Genjutsu, but can't escape it. It's a risky move to ignore dangerous sounds like that.

You throw down the Senbon, and he seems to have been concentrating more fully on his hearing, as he dodges limply to the left. He seems to have difficulty moving from the wounds he has, but is still fighting on. He seems to be looking all around him, unsure of where you are.

You look down at him.

You wouldn't have noticed it with the outline of Shikadai just resting, but now you can see it plainly as it moves.

That's how it's been going, but you keep jumping out of stuff at the last moment without really realizing it. Your paranoia and deception based fighting style has kept you alive and let you get a hit on him.

Every time that you've could have gone for direct contact and you didn't, you saved yourself from getting into a much worse position. He can't get a hold of you if he can't find you. Your Genjutsu make it easy for you to throw him off your trail, and setting traps will wear him down.

As far as tactics go, I think it's above and beyond. And you could explain it all with knowing of the Nara clan's famous jutsu, and staying away from him because of that.
