This is Akayama Kaito. Since the beginning of his adventure, he has travelled between worlds and dimensions, seen fantastic monsters, conquered unimaginable foes and had his life, skills and fears tested by some of the greatest warriors of all time. He scaled mountains, crossed oceans, fought armies and overcame all the odds set against him, often with the help of the great friends he has acquired since beginning his journey. Kaito's journey has been one of never giving up and always looking to do the right thing and do right by others, and it has been by no means pretty. Blood has been spilt, and will continue to be spilt, but throughout it all he has been unaware of the full truth of his lightning-based powers, only ever aware of myths, rumors and legends.

Now, after everything he has strived to acheive in the name of helping others at the cost of his own safety, he finds himself in the throne room of an interdimensional conqueror, facing off against a clone of his adopted daughter. Nearby, an ally named Liu Kang faces off against the Emperor in Mortal Kombat, while Raiden, the god of thunder and lighting and protector of the realm of Earth keeps the resurrected Queen Sindel busy, hoping to buy Liu Kang enough time to defeat Shao Kahn and stop the invasion of Earth.

Kaito blocks Mileena's strikes with her sai as she leaps at him, turning her attack aside as he steps around her. She spins and slashes out at him, but he keeps his distance. His hope is to talk her down, but he knows that if he is unable, she may not hold back. He has tried to instil within her a noble idea that she need not adhere to Shao Kahn's ways, that she can help others rather than hurt them, but now she is torn between loyalty to her father and what she feels in her heart.

Nearby, one of Kaito's greatest friends, the sphinx Turana, remains chained to Shao Kahn's throne, bound by magic chains, manacles and a collar that prevents her from speaking and casting spells. She watches with fearful eyes as Kaito defends himself from the ravenous Mileena.

Kaito blocks one of her kicks. "I don't want to fight you!"

"You have to!" she says, stabbing at him with a sai. "There is no choice!"

He shakes his head. "That's only what he's been telling you," he says to her. "But it's only true so long as you make it true. You can choose not to fight me. Fight alongside me, instead!"

Mileena closes her eyes and fights on, trying to make his confusing words cease.

She throws both sai at him, which he dodges. "There is no fate but what we make for ourselves, Mileena. I know it for a fact. You don't have to be a slave to his will!"

She kicks high and strikes him in the chest before twisting her hips and kicking him again with her other leg. He is knocked against the wall as she lands deftly on her feet, with both sai magically reappearing in her hands. She narrows her eyes and leaps at him, intending to impale him against the stone.

Kaito grabs her hands and stops her from charging into him. He holds her wrists tightly and moves close. "Don't let others choose for you," he tells her.

"And what if I choose this!" she replies. "What if I choose to be your enemy?!"

She kicks upwards but he blocks it with his leg. "I don't believe you," he tells her. "I think that's what you're telling yourself. It's easy to buy a simple lie but it's hard to accept the truth, and the truth is that under Shao Kahn, you're nothing but another tool for him, a weapon pointed at his enemies."

She turns and escapes his grasps by vanishing in a mist of pink light before reappearing and lunging at him from above. He rolls aside as her sai scrape against the ground.

"It's what I was made for," she says. "It's my purpose!"

"You're a living being!" he shouts as she throws herself at him again. "You're not a monster!"

He tackles her and turns her around, getting her into a full nelson. As he holds her from behind, Kaito speaks into her ear.

"You don't have to do this!"

"Yes... I... DO!" she cries, throwing her head down and biting his wrist with her teeth. Kaito screams in pain and lets go as they part.

She stares at him with wide eyes; her veil now dripping with some of his blood.

"See..." she says. "I'm not like you... I never was."

Kaito shakes off his bitten hand, letting some blood drip onto the floor. "Maybe I'm foolish, like you said once," he tells her. "But I don't have any regrets. Every road I've walked, I walked it myself, with nobody else making me. Sure, I've been tricked, and beaten, and bitten a couple of times, but I never stopped making my own choices for myself."

He leaves Mileena standing there as he turns to run across the room.

Sindel screams at Raiden, blasting him with her sonic voice, until Kaito leap-kicks her in the back. The regal queen falls to the ground, her levitation interrupted, and she turns her head to look at him.

Kaito flips back as she whips her head towards him, her hair extending to freakish lengths, attempting to coil around his legs. He flies backwards in the air as she gets back up before she is blasted by a thunderbolt from behind, courtesy of Raiden.

Liu Kang battles with Shao Kahn. The tall conqueror swings his hammer hard and fast, but the shaolin is one of the fastest warriors there is, dodging and weaving between each swing to land kicks and punches. Kaito sees an opening and blasts Shao Kahn with a lightning bolt, stunning him and allowing Liu to deliver a powerful flaming backfist to the Emperor's stomach.

Kaito looks back at Mileena, who is watching him with uncertain eyes. "Are you going to keep repeating your mistakes, or will you choose the better path?" he asks her, suddenly ducking as the Emperor tries to swing his hammer at him. Kaito flies across the room before MIleena tackles him out of the air and gets atop him, preparing to stab her sai blade into his neck.

She falters, though, holding the blade up high, but not bringing it down.

Her orange eyes burn with a strange light, almost twinkling in her confusion.

Mileena stares into his eyes, and for the first time, he sees something he's never seen in them. He has seen her angry, desperate, confused and hurt, but now she seems apprehensive. Slowly, he lifts a hand up and removes her veil, looking at her full face, teeth and all. He gently cups her cheek and runs his thumb alongside her ear as he begins to lean up. She pulls away, just slightly, uncertain of his true intentions, afraid to open up and express these strange emotions that have begun to grow inside of her ever since he first pleaded for her life in this very throne room and convinced what she thought was her mortal enemy to spare her life.

"Kaito... I don't..."

"Shh," he says, giving her a soft smile. "It's alright..."

He leans up to her and plants his lips on her teeth. There's not much else he can do, given the strange nature of her mouth, but the symbolic nature of it is more than enough to cause her to freeze against him. He works his way up to where her teeth emerge and kisses her there as well, where she can feel it. A hand of hers finds the back of his neck and pulls him closer against her as she shudders at the strange and exciting contact, something she had never experienced before.

Suddenly, Shao Kahn brings up a leg and kicks Liu Kang clear across the room to slam into the two of them, interrupting the suddenly sweet moment. The three of them slide back as bit.

Shao Kahn approaches and holds his hammer aloft. "Mileena! Kill them, now!"

She hesitates.

"Mileena, NOW! I command you!"

She looks up at her father, then back at Kaito as he and Liu Kang pick themselves up. She stares into the lightning warrior's eyes and he sees something familiar appear in them, the same look she gave him while she was imprisoned and still convinced she was his enemy: defiance.

"No," she says, turning her sai blades towards the Emperor. "I will not."

Shao Kahn's mouth falls open slightly as Liu Kang leaps forward to kick him in the chest. Mileena lets loose a fiery war cry as she charges in to attack her father. Nearby, Raiden continues to battle Queen Sindel as Johnny and Sonya begin to pick themselves back up from the corner of the room.

Liu Kang sends Shao Kahn backwards with a flying kick, allowing Mileena to leap upon his back. She bites into his neck as he roars, grabbing her and throwing her off. Kaito then blasts him with a bolt of lightning to distract him while Liu Kang prepares another furious combo. Together, the three of them force Shao Kahn back to his throne, beating him until he is forced to lay upon it, knocked backwards by a bicycle kick delivered by the shaolin monk.

Mileena, Kaito and Liu Kang stand before his throne as Shao Kahn breathes.

"You weak, pathetic fools..." he says, his eyes beginning to burn brighter. "Do you know who I am? DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU CHALLENGE?"

He rises and Mileena leaps at him. He swats her away with an arm before summoning his hammer. "I AM SHAO KAHN! CONQUEROR OF WORLDS! I AM THE END OF ALL THINGS!"

Liu Kang launches a fireball that blasts him in the chest, but he is unfazed by it. "I HAVE KILLED THE KINGS OF REALMS! GODS HAVE KNELT AT MY FEET AND BEGGED FOR MERCY!"

He lifts up his hammer and slams it down on the ground, creating a shockwave that knocks Liu Kang backwards. Kaito uses his cape to fly up and avoid it.

"I AM INVINCIBLE!" he proclaims. "I AM DEATH!"

Kaito charges his fists up with lightning and flies at Shao Kahn, planning to unleash all of his power upon him. The Emperor stands and allows him to deliver the strongest punch he can, but does not move. Kaito funnels as much energy as he can into the punch, but Shao Kahn merely looks down at him before hitting him with his hammer.

Kaito feels like a train just hit him. Shao Kahn laughs, taunting them all. Liu Kang charges him again, but Shao Kahn surges forward in a green streak, knocking him back. He then lifts up his hammer and brings it down on Liu's chest, nearly crushing him and cracking the floor beneath him.

Raiden turns to see this happen and flies towards Shao Kahn, but Sindel intercepts him and keeps him at bay. Mileena, instead, picks herself up and leaps at him, clawing at him with her sai blades.

Shao Kahn catches her by the throat and lifts her up. "Such a disappointment," he says, throwing her aside. "I wanted a child who would be loyal to me. One who would be worthy of my blood. Next time, I will make one better. You... You are nothing but a failure."

She spits on the ground. "If I'm your greatest mistake then... You named me your heir, what does that say about you?"

He laughs. "You? My heir? You were never going to be my heir. Why would I name an heir when I am immortal? Why would I ever plan for an eventuality that could never happen?"

Mileena looks at him, wide-eyed.

"You are nothing more than a pathetic child, a worthless pile of refuse that a sorcerer cooked up in his lab. You do not even share my own blood. I kept you because I believed you would be useful. Now that you have betrayed me, I need no longer keep you."

She shakes, and then screams. She brandishes both sai blades and leaps at him, blinded by the fury brought forth by his words.

He holds up a hand and summons a spear of green light and throws it at her, impaling her through the chest. Kaito shouts as she flies back and is pinned to the wall. Kaito runs up to her as Shao Kahn places a foot atop Liu Kang, laughing a deep, rumbling laugh.

Kaito rushes up to her as the spear is banished, catching her as she slides down the wall. She is struggling to breath. "K-Kaito..."

"I'm here," he tells her in a desperate tone. "I'm here, don't let go, Mileena, please..."

She coughs as she holds him tightly.

He holds her close as Shao Kahn laughs at him. "You mortals... so sentimental. Even a rejected half-breed can breed such weakness and pity within you. This is the price you pay for defiance, human. I will not simply kill you... I will make you suffer." He looks at Turana.

Kaito shouts as the hammer strikes her back. The blow does not kill her, but she falls down and bleeds from a wound; her wing has been broken. Shao Kahn turns to Kaito and points his hammer at him. "This next blow will finish her. And then I will do the same to your precious friends."

Kaito lets go of Mileena and stands. His hands are curled into fists, so tightly that they are turning white. Shao Kahn watches as Kaito's body begins to charge up with electricity.

Nearby, Queen Sindel is blasted by Raiden into the corner. The thunder god is then joined by Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. The humans prepare to rush at Shao Kahn, but Raiden holds them back and tells them to focus on keeping Sindel busy.

Raiden turns to look at Kaito, his eyes growing wide. "No... NO!"

Kaito throws out his arms as the energy around him turns red. A rage, a furious force unlike anything he has ever felt, is brought forth from inside of him. Kaito roars as his eyes turn red before they, too, launch a volley of red bolts that arc throughout the room.

Shao Kahn holds up his hammer as something deep within Kaito awakens and is born again. his body becomes a vessel for a power that has slept for ages. As the room shakes and the sky outside darkens and turns red with crimson bolts of lightning streaking throughout the sky, Kaito's transformation completes, and what remains is not fully human. Not any more.

He turns his gaze upon Shao Kahn.

"You shouldn't have done that..." he says, his fists crackling with red energy. "Now, I'm going to show you what it is like to be the ones you hurt."

Raiden looks on in pure horror at what Kaito has become. Shao Kahn holds up his hammer. "At last... something interesting."

Kaito throws out his arms and a red lightning bolt from the sky pierces the roof of the fortress, cutting through the stone and metal, blasting apart the roof. He claps his hands together and creates a red shockwave that knocks Shao Kahn backwards towards his throne. He then flies towards him with the speed of a bolt of lightning, kicking him through the very throne itself, destroying it. Turana is thrown back from the blast, rolling aside and across the room.

Shao Kahn gets up, but Kaito rushes him and pushes him against the wall. The force of the attack unleashes a burst of red lightning that destroys the wall behind Shao Kahn.

The Emperor raises his hammer and brings it down on Kaito, who dodges by becoming a red bolt and shooting between his legs. He reforms behind Shao Kahn and punches upwards, into the Emperor's groin and throwing him back into the room to land atop the pile of rubble that was once his throne.

Kaito lifts his hands to the sky and two red bolts of lightning slice through the heavens to his hands. He collects their energy before bringing his arms down and unleashing it all upon Shao Kahn. The Emperor roars in pain as his helmet is knocked from his head and his armor is scorched. Kaito flies back into the room as he gets back up, tackling him down to the floor.

Now atop him, Kaito punches him again, and again, and again. His fists fly like lightning, each a red bolt that strikes Shao Kahn in the face countless times. The Emperor opens his eyes and blasts Kaito with beams from his eyes, forcing the lightning warrior back.

Kaito staggers up as the Emperor kicks him, getting enough room to summon his hammer once more in one hand and a green spear in the other. He launches the spear at Kaito, impaling him through the stomach and nailing him to the floor. Kaito grasps it as the Emperor smiles and swings his hammer.

Kaito holds up a hand and catches the head of the hammer, stopping it. The Emperor's eyes widen as all of his strength and the power are halted by Kaito's arm. He teleports out of the spear and when he reappears, his wound seals itself. The Emperor swings his hammer again, only this time, Kaito does not catch the hammer-arm; he instead ducks beneath it, charges up his power, and punches upwards, snapping the Emperor's arm at the elbow.

Shao Kahn roars in pain as his hammer falls to the floor. His arm, now painfully twisted in the wrong direction, forces him onto a knee. Kaito then looks at the Emperor's broken arm, channels energy into his hand, grabs ahold of the broken joint and unleashes it all upon the breaking point, severing the Emperor's arm. It falls to the ground and lands near the hammer as Shao Kahn screams in pain.

Kaito looks down upon him as he leans down and picks up his wrath hammer.

Sensing the barely-contained rage within the new wielder, the hammer becomes a conduit for Kaito's power.

He holds the hammer up high.

Kaito looks into the Emperor's eyes as he brings the hammer down upon him. Not to kill, however. Instead, he knocks him down, breaking a bone or two.

Then, he brings the hammer back up, and down again, purposefully prolonging the Emperor's demise. He roars with glee as he throws the hammer outside. Shao Kahn looks up at him as Kaito turns into a form of pure energy and washes over him, entering his body through his many wounds. Shao Kahn tries to get up but instead finds himself burning from within.

Everyone in the room looks on as Shao Kahn begins to glow, his wounds becoming white hot. Shao Kahn roars as he looks at his hands before his eyes melt and his skin ignites. From the sky above, a single lightning bolt of bright red streaks down and strikes him, causing a massive explosion that destroys the rest of the roof of his fortress and utterly destroys his body, sending chunks of gore in all directions.

Kaito remains standing there, his fists curled, his brow heavy, his breath haggard and his eyes glowing a bright red as red lightning is wreathed around him.

All of the assembled look on as Kaito turns around, his gaze focusing on Raiden.

He walks towards the thunder god, blasting him with a bolt of lightning. Raiden falls back. Johnny immediately runs up to Kaito. "Kaito! The hell are you doing?!"

Kaito looks at the human and smiles. "Who?"

He then blasts Johnny aside and proceeds towards his enemy.

For Kaito is gone, and all that remains is what was waiting to be awakened for countless centuries: the original spirit of the crimson thunderbolt, the warrior who challenged the gods.

Hungry for revenge.

He is somehow outside of the reach of the orb, in a place she cannot know.

Far below, at the base of the Sky Temple, the typhoon suddenly turns red as the red lightning warrior unleashes his power to counteract both of theirs.

Raiden looks at Fujin. "I fear that his power may be growing too great."

"Then what can we do?"

"You can do nothing," he tells Fujin. "Only I can stop him. But... it may leave me changed."

"What are you saying? What do you mean?"

Raiden shakes his head. "Take Kitana and leave. I must finish what I have started."

"Raiden, I--"

"Now, Fujin! I must do this!"

Fujin nods and lets down his power to fly to Kitana. After a moment, they both leave.

Raiden looks down as Kaito flies back up. He looks at Raiden with an amused grin. "Tell me, Raiden... Before I kill you, I must know: Why did you willingly allow my return? You must have known what it would do to the boy."

"I had my suspicions," he says. "But the risk had to be taken. The reward of Earthrealm's freedom from Outworld was too great to ignore."

"There's more," he says. "I know you too well. What is the real truth, Raiden?"

"And just what is that supposed to mean?" the warrior asks Raiden.

The thunder god does not reply. Instead, he begins chanting, and moving his arms in a ritualistic fashion. The red lightning warrior throws a bolt in his direction, but Raiden catches it in one hand, collecting it into a red ball, before absorbing it into his body.

The lightning warrior launches more and more, but each one is caught by Raiden, who closes his eyes as he loses himself in the throes of the ritual. Kaito rockets towards him, fists forward, as Raiden turns to intercept him.

His fists meet Raiden's hands and the thunder god stops his forward motion, grabbing hold of both balled fists. Kaito looks Raiden in the eyes as he opens them once more, continuously chanting strange words as he begins to syphon all of his electrical power into his body.

He pulls and yanks and tries to get away, but Raiden does not let go and his strength begins to fade while the thunder god's only grows. He panics as he attempts to teleport, but Raiden saps him of his energy too quickly.

"I rob you of your power..."

Kaito struggles to get away, but he cannot. He can feel himself slipping into Raiden's body, bit by bit, losing all that he is within.

"I take from you your only means of control..."

"NO! NO! LET GO! I WILL NOT BE DENIED!"

The lightning warrior looks to the heavens and shouts as the last remnants of himself are drawn into Raiden.

"You will be part of me, controlled, subdued, locked away... FOREVER!"

The lightning warrior screams and Kaito's eyes burn red as the last bits of himself are bled out, turning his eyes normal and Raiden's a bright red.

Kaito's body, now devoid of any soul, falls backwards. Raiden swoops down and catches it.

"I know what I must do with you," he says.

He brings Kaito's body down to the Jinsei Chamber. Within, the swirling blue lifeblood of Earthrealm courses through the veins of the world. The chamber itself is magical and heals all wounds and even prevents aging.

He brings Kaito to an altar within a small alcove and places his body upon it. "I know not where your soul was sent, Akayama Kaito... but so long as your body is kept within this chamber, it will be preserved. I know you likely cannot hear me now... But it will be waiting for you."

As the darkened thunder god leaves the chamber, he turns red eyes upon the body once more. "And know that your sacrifice will not be for nothing. I'm sorry."

Kaito awakens with a start in a strange desert land. It is light, but there is no sun or clouds; just sand as far as the eye can see.

He picks himself up and tries to remember what happened last. "Turana... Mileena... Shao Kahn... Where are they? What happened? I don't understand..."

He surveys the landscape, finding no landmarks nor discernable method for telling north, south, east or west.

Kaito begins to walk in a random direction, drawing a line in the sand behind him. He walks and walks and walks, but nothing seems to change. He eventually stops drawing the line and just runs.

He runs across the landscape, finding that he does not tire.

"Am I dead?" he wonders aloud. "Is this heaven? Hell? Purgatory?"

He stops running and looks around. The sky has gotten a little murkier and dull in color. "Am I losing my mind?"

Suddenly, the ground before him cracks and breaks and Kaito is nearly thrown to the ground from the shaking nature of it. He looks and sees a great chasm begin to open, with the half he is not on rising upwards.

On the other side is some kind of ancient stone city built into the cliffs, with windows and doors carved from ancient blocks. But sitting on the outside of it on an extended ledge is a man in a tattered white robe with a mask that covers his face, holding a wooden staff or walking stick, and wearing a silver modern-looking watch on his left wrist.

"Hi," he says.

"...Hi," Kaito replies. "Who are you?"

"I'm, uh, I'm... Well, my name is, it's Ryan."

"Ryan? That's an oddly normal name for someone like you."

"Yeah, yeah, I know, it's uh... I mean I probably could have changed it when I started my work for Chronosis, you know, but I thought, eh, the hell with it."

"You work for Chronosis? The skeleton in space?"

"I'm one of his agents across the realms, yeah," Ryan nods. "And across time, and space, and all that other, uh, good stuff."

He checks his watch.

"It's not really a realm as you'd understand it," Ryan says. "It's, uh, more like a demiplane between proper dimensional spaces. You cannot manipulate it, but I can. It's one of the fringe benefits of the job but there's really not much to do here. The point is, you're outside of your home reality."

"Yes, yes, he was. Your body was possessed by the ancient spirit of the red lightning warrior and you were cast outwards when he took control of your body."

He checks his watch. "No, but Raiden managed to fix the problem. Halfway, anyway. Your body is empty and the red lightning warrior is gone; he absorbed him into his own body."

He holds up a hand and Kaito is granted a vision of Raiden placing his body into the Jinsei Chamber.

"Your body is empty and ready to receive your soul, but getting there is the hard part."

He checks his watch again.

"Okay, what's with all the watch-checking, exactly? Are you late or expecting someone?"

"No," he says. "It's, uh, complicated."

"Alright, so... How exactly am I getting back into my body?"

"The problem is that when you first left your reality, when you met with Chronosis... Something got in."

"What? What do you mean?"

"Something from outside your home reality that should not exist within it used the gap you created to slip inside. I know you didn't mean to, but if left unchecked, it will begin to destroy all of your home reality."

"Like Chronosis told me before... We can observe alternate realities but we cannot travel to them," he says. "I understand now. But how do we find it?"

"That's the hard part," he says. "It's not a creature that we can see or understand in the conventional sense. Chronosis already patched the hole, but the creature was inside when he did."

"Can't the Elder Gods do something now that it's in their domain?"

"There's a reason that the Elder Gods could not prevent the merging of Earthrealm and Outworld."

Kaito's eyes widen. "This thing is keeping the Elder Gods from influencing their own reality? How powerful is it?"

"The extent of its power isn't known," he says. "It'd be easy if it were just a man from another reality or a parallel timeline, something with a physical form... But this thing is alien. Eldritch. And it wants your reality."

Kaito runs his hand through his hair. "Damn... This is all my fault."

"No, not quite," he says. "You couldn't have known and by the time we found it out it was too late. But we can get you back into your home to stop it."

"How?"

"It won't be easy or pretty. I'd like to just put you back in your body, but the entity is preventing me from doing so. The longer we let it sit in your home, the worse things will become, so we must act quickly."

"Then what can we do, exactly?"

"We're going to have to break a few of reality's rules."

He checks his watch again. "Ah. It's time."

A portal opens up behind Kaito and Ryan jumps off his cliff and lands next to him. "Follow me."

"Where are we going?"

"Since we can't put you back in your old body, we're going to have to make you a new one, in a parallel reality. We're then going to send that body to your home dimension."

"But I thought that cross-reality shenanigans will end up very, very badly," he points out. "Chronosis told me himself."

"That's why we'll need to act quickly. Yes, your new form will be dangerous once you are back home in your reality, but if you can find the entity and destroy it, your realm will be free of its influence. And then we can fix everything on our end and get you back in your own body."

"But you said it has no form, right? How will I know what it looks like?"

"It will eventually manifest into physical form. It will be vulnerable. It will be up to you to find it and destroy it."

Kaito pauses and thinks it all over. "Alright. If it's the only way, then I'll do it. What kind of body will I have? Will it still be me on the inside? What about my powers?"

Ryan shrugs. "What kind of body do you want?"

Together, they both step into the portal, leaving the demiplane behind.

>Epilogue 1

In a darkened tavern in Outworld, a lone figure sits in a corner, twirling a six-shooter around a finger and drinking from a mug. Another mysterious man enters, wearing a dark robe.

He sits across from Erron.

"Your services are no longer required. Your target is dead."

Erron sets his mug down. "You sure about that? People have a tendency to not always stay dead."

The figure nods. "You received your first half of the payment. You will not be receiving your second half."

"Don't matter much to me," he shrugs. "There's always another bounty. Almost had him, though."

He takes out a bullet with the word "Kaito" written on it. "Had a special one, just for him." He places it back onto his belt. "I'll keep it just in case."

"Do as you will," his one-time employer says. "And remember to keep our deal strictly confidential. I may need you again."

"Of course," Erron says. "I'm a professional."

The figure stands and moves to leave, with no more words needed. Outside, he ducks into an alleyway and takes off the cloak.

Rain then vanishes into the ground, teleporting away with his water powers.

"Is everything prepared?" Kitana asks Asgaarth, who nods.

Sindel stands nearby, the mind control broken by Shao Kahn's death; she is once more the queen of Edenia, but first Edenia must be brought back.

Tanya and Rain stand nearby, along with several other allies to bear witness to the return of the hallowed realm. Asgaarth has the assembled items for the ritual; the Essence of Edenia, the Orb of Knowledge, the Book of Truth, the Amulet of Ankarro and finally, the most important piece of all: the Edenia Kamidogu.

Asgaarth looks at his friend. "Are you ready, Kitana?"

She looks down and thinks about all those who have contributed to this moment to make it a reality. "Kaito should be here..." she whispers to herself.

At that moment, a warm hand is placed on her shoulder. Jade, her memories restored by forcing Quan Chi to work his sorcerery upon her to break the spell, smiles at her friend. "He would have wanted to see it. But his sacrifice will not have been in vain, Kitana."

The princess nods. "You're right. It's time to bring Edenia back; we have waited thousands of years. We will build a monument to him within Edenia, to forever commemorate the role he played in bringing back our home."

Her mother approaches her and hugs her, holding her close. "It is fitting, my daughter."

At last, they would know home again.

The ritual commences, and within the hour, the realm of Edenia is reborn, torn away from Outworld. Beautiful, pristine, wondrous.

All thanks to those like Kaito, who gave everything they had in the name of what was right.

I'm pretty sure they can remove that. Both Cyber Sub-Zero and Cyrax never got hacked remotely. Smoke got hacked, but he was also sitting powered down in Shao Kahn's fortress for years and even then he still ended up on the Side of Light.
