25! Good success.
It has been some time since you had time to just work in the lab. You are a little rusty in the beginning, but then you remember what you have learned from your experiences and become even better at dealing with the formulae and theorems of alchemy. You get to work on the problem with gusto.

You recreate the physical qualities of blood perfectly. With your skill in alchemy you know that the synthetic blood is chemically identical to the real thing. The question is whether or not it is spiritually potent enough to feed Lathrien.

I can't imagine that it would end the quest or anything. I mean, say we chose lichdom. Ritual time comes, we roll a 1. Well, its not like it was a stupid decision that we then fucked the roll on..I'd guess we would just get no bonuses whatsoever besides immortality.

You are done for now. You will have to talk to Lathrien immediately.

You find him standing over the trap door that leads to the basements under the temple.

'What are you doing here?'
'I was seriously considering skulking beneath.'
'I see. What stopped you.'
'What you said. Maybe I should be more mindful of my desires now.'
'Yeah, speaking of which, I just made some blood.'
'Ech. Well, let's get this over with.'

He takes the vial and chugs it down.

'Huh. Not half as bad as I thought it would be.'
'It is some of my better work.'
'Yeah, I mean, I don't know why, but the idea of fake blood was repulsive to me.'
'Happy that it worked then.'
'Well, sort of'
'Pardon?'
'I mean, it works, it tastes well, and I do not feel as hungry anymore, but the feeding... The feeding is great still. And I do not feel full.'
'So?'
Lathrien sighs. 'I can live on this. I cannot say I want to. It tastes great, and I know I can survive on it, but it's nothing compared to the real thing.'

>'If you want something else, take it. Do not kill my subjects, but feed as you like.'

'It is merely a request. But it is one I would be very grateful if you kept.'

Potion of Intellect IV!

Working on your homunculi, you take a closer look at the brain chemistry. You gain a much better understanding of how the brain works, and indeed how to enhance its functions. You start by simple drugs to enhance concentration, but by the time you are done you have created a concoction that will push your mind to the limit of human capability.

>Change in brain chemistry. Set intelligence to 5, one reroll per int check critical failure. Duration of 15 minutes. Side-effects unknown.

While your side-project distracts you for a while, you manage to create several simple homunculi while you are at it. You create a tiny draconic body for the black dragon spirit, and a few more humanoid ones.

How do people feel about becoming a vamp still?
Now that we have done it, we may even be able to get stronger effects/protections for our selves. Especially if we raise shamanism and lath increases his skills.
>>
Since the elven scout and the orc demonologist both have been bound to bodies set to errands already, you bind the dragon to the tiny dragon body first.

'Finally I am free! I am vengeance! I am death! I will destroy you, Vlad Tepish!' It says in a squeaky voice. You made certain that's how it'd work.
'No. Not free. You have a body. You can work for me and have some degree of freedom. But you shall not go against my orders.'
'No! I shall burn you! I shall spew acid in your face!'

It tries, it really does. But your binding is solid. It could no more hurt you than it could learn to be humble.

'Now. I have a child on the way. You shall be their best friend and play with them and have fun together. Is that clear?'
'Nnnoo- Wait? What?'
'You shall be my child's playmate.'
'Oh cool! I mean, no! I shall not be subject to such horrid...'

You let it go on. It cannot harm any of your allies. It might as well have some fun.

We could also just piss him off.
Kill off a couple of his followers to weaken him. And that should help lower the dc. To gain stronger resistances and possibly another perk.

I would want to create an identical body that has several perks. Possibly two hearts.
And then do the ritual. Hive mind should still be possible, except we could control vamps and such. Would be a good way to merge imortalities.

I make it a habit to be quite opaque about any options in this quest. I might change that in vol. 2, but it's how it's been going so far this volume and I'm not changing it until the quest changes significantly.

You go to find Bathory. You have had few words with her since you got back. She's not mad, of course. It takes a whole lot more to make her angry with you.

You see her, and though you had words for her, all you can do once you see her with your child all you can do is drop on your knees in front of her and press your ear to her belly.

You hear your child.

'Vlad! Hardly a word, and then this!'
'You know me, Love. I think of nothing but you and do nothing to do with you.'
'You are a busy man. I understand that.'
'I still cannot believe what we have created.'
'I know. I have not yet seen her, but I love her so that I would destroy the world for her.'
'Her?'
'Oh, a woman knows.'
'My daughter shall be the greatest woman this world has ever seen. She shall make men weep and women die of jealousy. She shall...'
'Oh, I'd settle for her having a normal life.'
'Or that. That would be nice too.'
'Oh stop with your submissions. Vlad Tepish bows to no one. Not even me.'
'Bathory, I remember. It was so recent when I hurt you so much. I want to do everything for you.'
'Well, get over it. I would continue with our lives.' She smiles.
'As you say, love.'

You kiss.

Then you hear a low horn blowing outside your forest. It is far, but clear. You are quite certain it is of dwarven make.

That sounds good. Just saying we should make a body that is natural looking as possible with the max amount of perks possible. Like extremly condensed muscles, being much stronger. Skin toughness. Two hearts, and possibly 1-5 smaller hearts spread through out the body to make it harder for others to kill us.
And possibly make something on our skin to also be more light resistance on top of perk. If/when we go for it we can maximize on it.

You rush out on your mount with your minions close behind you. You reach the dwarven delegate.

He is a mess. Even across the road it is clear that he has been travelling hard. He is scruffed and bloody, and his horn breaks as he blows it for the last time before you arrive.

There is nothing to tarry here for. You can imagine what defences the dwarves have put on and you know what you shall be facing once you get there. There is no need for further talk, and your allies need help from you as soon as possible, and so you set out without delay.

You ride hard, through the night. You are getting tired, and that spiritual tear from the spider spirits still haunts you, but when your friends need you, you are there. That is what you must do for diplomacy. And common fucking decency.

You reach the mountain, and find it undefended. Either the dwarves have fallen, or it is all-hands-on with the spider issue.

All colour leaves his face and he gulps.
'I will come with you, Vlad Tepish. Wh- what is your plan?'
'We charge. We kill bugs until there are none more to kill. We exterminate them.'
'Yes, Vlad Tepish.'

You rush towards the dwarven halls. You are truly fatigued now, but so long as your mind is strong enough to direct your undead, you can be of aid to your allies.

It takes nearly half an hour to get to the Runeforge. There are cries, both of battle and pain, but all in all the situation is not quite as dire as you feared.

The mineshaft is fully blocked by golems. They hold the darkness back, but once you look behind them, you see a skittering million. Dark eyes, hairy legs, venomous fangs. Some manage to squeeze their way through the grinding stone of the golem guard, it is perhaps one in a hundred, but the dwarven force is still very nearly getting overwhelmed.

It is the wrong plague. You do not know what type of disease would truly hurt the spiders. You try every disease that humanoids might suffer from, and the spiders shrug it off.

As your spell fizzles, the horde pushes onwards. The golems are starting to get pushed back. Only by inches, but the pressure is building and your undead are seeing battle more and more often.

21! Blackjack!

They are animals.

You raise them.

The spiders raise to fight for you.

You know you can control a hundred more.

You raise them, and as you do, the tides slowly turn.

You quest further into the darkness, and through your magic your numbers only increase, never fall.

This is a grind. This is not so much fighting as it is slashing your way through a thick wall of spider flesh and ichor. They spew their poison and bite your zombies, but as they are immune to your disease, your minions are immune to their venom.

Some fall, and yet, with careful consideration and use of your minions you... you can.. do things. You can do things with the undeads. They can do the killing thing.

This is no longer a battle of mind, but of flesh and magic. While your magic has been somewhat hampered, your might is as it has ever been. You forge a way through the spiders, ever preparing to retreat if things get too bad.

>>
You cannot lay a full curse on her, not with your current state of mind, but your retreat is orderly and without casualties. You have raised fifty giant spiders, and they take up 15 units. As you retreat you soon realize that the spiders have given up on their assault. The dwarves are still under siege, but they are no longer under immediate danger.

You feel like, between your spiritual injuries and the side effects of the potion you should have a good night's sleep before you face the queen once more.

And that is where the twenty fifth installment of Feral Necromancer Quest concludes. With Getting Shit Done and Lasting for Two Threads you have gained 4 exp, making the total 7.

I see Dragon+Int winning, and I ain't going to wait for another fight.

You have gained Draconic Magic 4! You have learned Dragonscale!

Reflexively, in combat, you can make your skin as durable as dragonscale. When cast, you gain 2 more wounds, and the first two wounds you take do not impede your ability to fight in any way.

Shamanism/Draconic Magic combo!

All your shapeshift forms have dragonscale by default, in addition to any bonuses you might have from increased stamina.

Sorry for no direct damage, there is pretty much only one thing draconic magic does for direct damage and it's pretty high up the tree.

You have increased your intellect to 4! You gain a bonus to all spellcasting. Affected skills include Tactics, Alchemy, Training, Linguistics.

This was a very close tie, but since Dragon lost a very close tie last time, I felt like I could let it win this time.

The customary hint for Draconic V is: This is the spell most characteristic of dragons.

From last session: DeadQM 08/25/15(Tue)22:04:03 No.42098065
What you know for certain is that at the next level of Shamanism undead animals will cost 1/8th of their base cost, which means that you could have a ridiculously huge horde of animal undead. By that point a fucking mammoth zombie would probably set you back like 1.5 units, and you could have 8 zombie wolves for the cost of a basic humanoid undead.

As far as hints go, Shamanism 8 is probably the most destructive direct evocation you're likely to get in the first volume of the quest.

As for close calls and re-votes, unless it is something very major to the plot, I shall maintain the right to choose which one to go with.

For something like an immortality option I'm going to put a starwpoll up, but if it's something that you can get later/is of no major impact to the plot I will make a decision.

I know that fights about what is the best option are a part of the medium I'm running this on, but I feel like I'm fully within my rights to make a judgement call on close votes.

Besides, I feel like there's been entirely too much fighting here lately.

>>42181862

Wasp would get overwhelmed here cause of too many spiders. Lathrien might help, but it's like trying to turn the waves themselves back, go big or go home.

>>
>>42181949

>>
>>42181916
Of course, and I'm cool with that, more or less. It was a decision of mine (for better or worse) to have a good number of choices for immortality in the quest. I was expecting some disagreement on them, and am quite happy to see that one is not so far superior to the others that everyone agrees on it.

That said, there are things that have a relatively little impact on the plot that are getting fought over a bit too severely in my opinion. I'm still glad to see people care, but guys, the pace we're going we're probably going to see shamanism maxed and Draconic quite high before the end of the volume. Chill.

And I guess I shall take the advice of folks here and crash now. Always enjoy running this, good bye and have fun, folks.

If we can kill enough spiders, she'll get weaker and weaker.

I'd bet if we took her down to half the number of spiders she had initially we could manage to utterly destroy her soul with a decently hard DC.

If we got her down into single digits we could probably just say "fuck it" and she'd die.

Exaggeration, but she can't be that tough on her own, I mean, come on, we uppercutted a "god"'s horn off with less Shamanism skill than we have now.
>>
changes in the player populace I've noticed since I've missed the last like... three? four, maybe? threads:

> people seriously considered Vampirism for Vladimortality
Prior to... just recently, apparently, people (as far as I'm aware) never really considered vampirism, minus like one or two anons. And, on that same coin:

> far fewer people are considering Draconic as a valid option for immortality
Seriously, why? I legit read an anon's response where he said he would purposefully, intentionally, and personally undermine the efforts of anons trying to vote for Draconic as a legit option. He's a sociopath, but I'm not really sure as to how far he'll go to samefag/whatever to get his way (and thereby completely ruin the concept of quests as a whole, because some people are -- as mentioned before -- simply sociopaths).

Also, with lichdom: I also read an anon who wrote that lichdom was exactly what Vlad was aiming for by picking up necromancy -- you could not be any more wrong within the context of this quest than you already are. Seriously, he picked up Necromancy to try and save Bathory from death. Get over yourself and reread the quest.

Anyways, sucks to have missed so much. Had I been involved last thread I would have definitely voted for

> No vampires, EVER

but I wasn't present, so who cares. Anyways, you anons have a nice night!
>>
>>42185627
Don't worry.

The immortality option we end up choosing will be Potato.
