Welcome to A Song of Revenge and Gold: House Malroy Quest. In which you take the reins of a House of storied glorious past since Aegon’s Conquering, but whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse in the doom that Robert’s Rebellion brought. Taking place in 284AC a year after the Rebellion has ended you are Brynden Malroy, second son to Lord Vamos Malroy and Lady Esemella Hayford and the last living heir to. You return from Essos upon the summons of your Uncle Ser Dontos Malroy on behalf of the Crown. Spared the details of your family’s fate you venture into a world of which you know little now having been gone for seven years. And though in your heart vengeful wrath burns for justice, you take calm knowing the smallest of slights may wipe your House from the Crownlands and history itself entirely.

House Malroy is a pre-genned House designed around the idea of a story within the Crownlands of a House fiercely loyal to the Targaryens and their attempts to live in this new world after Robert’s Rebellion. The new Lord Brynden Malroy is as well pre-genned but will take direction from the players in his ways and how he develops himself further. This Quest will be moderately more story driven than others of its kind, but the development of the House and her lands will take just as much importance.

If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

And now without further ado.
>>
You sleep restlessly, your dreams invaded by an imagination too cruel for you to stomach. Dreams of your family, your father and your brothers their heads upon pikes. Torn into by the shadowy ravens that feel as if they dig away at your soul. And of your mother and your sister, their screams for you to aid them fallen upon deaf ears. By the morning you are thankful for the respite your son gives you as your shaken awake, though this feeling slowly disappears as you realize your reality is just as cruel. “Father, the lady from yesterday is here,” you turn over and reach out for your son cupping his head in your hand. “Thank you Victus,” you respond groggily, “Go wash up and put on your good clothes.” The boy runs off, teeming with energy seemingly unaware of the world about him, a certain innocence still about him, though perhaps not one to envy. Brushing the thought aside you pull yourself up, the bed was a touch softer and more comforting than you were usually use to, though it did little to aid you in your sleep.
>>
Your eyes turn to the doorway, previously opened by your son, Elionwy stands there awaiting your regard with a disconcerting silence, something you may never get use to. You wave her in and pick an orange from the bowl set upon the table that had escaped your wrath the previous night. She nods and invites herself in, placing a bundle of clothing upon said table and handing you a piece of parchment. “Seven hells,” you mutter as you eye it, you knew your letters and names of those important and where it said how much money you were getting paid but had never bothered to become entirely literate. Picking away at your orange you try to make out what it said, “Donold’s… clothing? That seems right,” you continue muttering and leaf through the bundle, a heavy mantle wrapping it all together. “Can you read this bloody mess?” you ask Elionwy who herself had begun plucking at grapes, she nods slowly and it dawns upon you that it did you little good regardless, “Of course you can, some help that is, do you know when we’re suppose to meet the King?” She nods again, a piece of her dark hair falling from its carefully pinned position. Sighing you fall back into the chair and cross your arms, “Good enough then, soon I pressume?” And yet again she nods and points to your bundle of clothing.

As far as you can surmise your uncle sent you Donold’s clothing from the villa, finer clothing than you had ever owned. Likely in an attempt to make you actually look the part of a Lord. It hadn’t occurred to you to do so, but was it in your interest? You had little doubt Solhas and Ser Mason would wear their best even though it was little more than shined armor and your Uncle would as well.

>Wear your late brother’s finery to see the King?
>Wear your own clothing to see the King?

Oh as a note. The way you approach this meeting, from your clothing, to responses, retinue, etc. Will effect your sentencing.

And just as a heads up. Robert, Cersei, Jon Arryn, Littlefinger and another will be in attendance.

He shouldn't be on the small council that early, although there's nothing that contest the contrary either.
>>
Thinking of the previous night and the daggers your Uncle stared at you for merely asking questions you think it best to give into his wishes at least for the moment and wear your brother’s clothing, though it felt odd to say the least. You rise from the table and unwrap the bundle placing pieces on the bed. A fine purple and black doublet, black pants, high boots that look almost like riding boots with golden laces, black leather gloves that reach your elbows, and finally a mantle of light black scale, it wears heavily but looks every bit the piece of a Lord. The latter is pinned together with a golden chain with a horse on the buckle. “No doubt my father bought this for Donold to wear to court,” you think aloud. Victus has returned dressed as well as he can be and is examining the clothing as well. You turn to Elionwy and she stares at you blankly before you raise an eyebrow and she suddenly realizes what you’re implying. Her olive skin blushes slightly and she nods and leaves the room closing the door carefully behind her.

You dress in quick order, Victus helps with the laces as you mess with the doublet. A bit of a tight fit in the chest region but it’ll do. Your son finishes his work and stands up as you inspect yourself in a looking glass. “Father I’ve never seen you like this before. Am I going to get fancy new clothing as well?” You laugh at your son and ruffle his hair, “Yes Victus, when we return to Steadhold I’ll find you something equally splendid. He laughs and hugs at your side, your arm wraps around him. A cruel fate may await the boy in the future but he is still your son and you refuse to deny him that love.
>>
“Elionwy? Are you ready to depart?” you call to the door. The myrish woman peeks in and waves her hand. “Come Victus, we’re to meet the King today.” Elionwy slips her arm into yours again and Victus holds you hand as you travel through the Red Keep. You received a fair few odd looks, now doubt a few of the Crownland Lords still knew your sigil and Victus could pass off as your child from your mute guide as well. Solhas joins your small party and Ser Mason soon after. The former wears the mantle of golden and purple flowers he assembled in his time in Essos, the latter his plate mail with his own sigil, a garnet gamecock on a field of black. Your uncle, Dontos awaits by the door to the throneroom, a look of relief upon his face as you approach.

“I’m glad to see you saw it fit to wear your brother’s clothing. We’ll be rid of it when we return to Steadhold. I no more like it than you nephew,” he regards Elionwy and Victus after with a droop in his visage, “Brynden do you think it wise to bring them along with you? The King may not take well to your Summer Isle friend, let alone more with Essos in their eyes.”

>Leave Elionwy and Victus out of the proceedings

I forget, is our son a Waters or doesn't he have a bastard surname because he's Essosi?
>>
>>42167773
Waters. He was born in Westeros before you fled to Tyrosh with Lysa. It is something Brynden likes to talk little of.
>>
>Bring them along

Fuck the king. we've done enough with dying our hair and wearing our dead brothers clothes for him.
>>
>Bring them along
It's not like Robert doesn't have, like 1,000,000 bastards anyway
>>
You look down upon your son and turn to Elionwy in turn, and while it pained you to send your son away again there was truth in your Uncle’s wisdom. “Elionwy, would you be so kind as to take Victus about once more? Perhaps visit the stables, he’ll chat your ears off about the horses if you let him.” The quiet woman nods and takes your son by his hand, he to his credit offers little resistance and smiles up to you. Likely the last you’ll see for the next few hours. As the wander off you turn to your uncle and steel yourself, “You had your way today Uncle, but in there, I take control. Understood?” The man sighs, you note a cut over the top of his eye and his nose out of place likely from the previous night, “Of course nephew, just please be tactful. We cannot afford your wrath to gain control again.”

“His Highness is ready for you,” a Goldcloak interrupts. You eye Ser Mason and Solhas who are standing firm alongside each other, no worse for wear either. It would seem they at least didn’t want you dead before you stepped into the throne room. With a deep breath you regard the guard and push forward, your men fanned out behind you, the door is opened and you’re met with a blinding light of early day and are ushered forward.
>>
The throne room is resplendent, the dragons of your youth replaced with the golden field with black crowned stag, it would seem your presence has attracted an audience as well. Many retainers, small and minor lords, knights, etc. fill out the hall and turn to regard you and your small party as you enter. Some with looks of disdain, others with whispered murmurs, and a few with hidden pride you’ve no doubt a few of the once Targaryen loyal Houses managed their way into the proceedings as well. Your eyes are fixed though, fixed upon a man sat lazily upon the Iron Throne, speaking with an older man with the pinned Hand upon his cloak. Before him is sat a woman of astounding beauty with golden hair, and to her left a small man with a pointed goatee going over a rather large bit of parchment. Off to the side you recognize Ser Greenfield and much to your surprise and dislike Ser Barristan Selmy, a man you once revered as the pinnacle of Knighthood, now hung low serving a Usurper. Before them stands a man that you would have taken as Solhas if you had not had him at your back. The King waves a hand at him and he storms off, the former taking a deep swallow of a goblet before regarding you with a seemingly renewed interest. He is a giant of a man, still in his prime, even through his finery you've no doubt he is well muscled and could strangle the life out of you in moments. A thought you ill like.
>>
“May I present to his Grace, King Robert Baratheon the first of his name. The Lord Brynden Malroy, his Uncle Ser Dontos Malroy. And his retainers Ser Mason Flowers of the Reach and Solhas Za Tarbeck,” the herald suddenly calls and the crowd quiets. You stop before the throne and bow to the best of your upbringing, Dontos, Mason, and Solhas do the same in your footsteps. He calls again, “Today the Lord Malroy and his retainers have come before his Grace to swear fealty and petition their pardons into the King’s Peace.” The crowd murmurs at this and you raise your head to the King who waves you stand up. Accepting his offer you stand, the mantle brushing along your sides in quiet klinks. “Lord Malroy. A fighting man to the last it would seem. Did you wear such a cloak of fear of crossbow bolt from on high?” he asks you in a resounding voice, the tinge of drink slurring his words.

>How do you respond?

Sorry guys but I started to write after the former option reached 3 votes.
>>
>>42168060
Well shit, Robert loves a good joke but I doubt Brynden would be the type to joke with him...
>Would you rather have me wear plate armor? Surely you'd prefere to wear one instead of a King's garb?
>>
>>42168060
'I wouldn't be the first man to be stabbed in the back here, your grace'
Time to deflect any anger onto Jamie.
>>
>>42168189
>>42168240

I can put these two together. Any objections? Or other opinions?
>>
You shift uncomfortably in the heavy scale, and respond, “I would not be the first to be stabbed in the back upon these steps, your Grace you respond. The crowd quiets again, and the King looks you over, Ser Barristan gives you attention, and the young golden haired woman eyes you viciously. The hairs on the back of your neck tingle as your Uncle likely stares death upon you. Seeing the quiet as an opportunity to continue you do, your usual tone gaining strength, “Or would his Grace prefer me to wear plate? No doubt it would be less stuffy than this doublet.” The Hand speaks a few words to the smaller man and you eye them briefly as the deafening quiet continues, “Ive no doubt his Grace would prefer to be wearing such a set himself, rather than the regalia of a King. The Storm Lords I knew would prefer as much at least.” This cracks him, he takes a swallow from his goblet once more and regards you heavily, before erupting into laughter, his Small Council giving him odd looks all the while.

“And my Lord Malroy would be correct. Do you know the last time I got to wear the damnable thing? When I married the beauty before you last month. And the marriage bed is a special kind of warfare, it is nothing of true battle,” you smile and nod to him. Just the right word, had you left it too early you might have gained his wroth but your quick lip served you well today. He continues, shifting and waving to his Hand, “Alright Jon, let’s be on with it.”

Jon Arryn steps forward and down the stairs handing you a scroll, and two more to your men. “Pardons, my lords. Sealed with the seal of our Grace. Should you bend the knee now, and accept any other penalties thereafter.” You nod, Mason seems to be the only one able to read the scroll and nods at it to you, seemingly happy enough. “Now my Lords, if you would bow and repeat after myself…”
>>
Jon Arryn quickly pushes you through the oath, with a tiredness of expression that seems to imply he had done it many times before. “I so swear,” you finish and regard the King once more. He stands and walks down to the bottom of the stairs, offering his hand to you.

>Do you take his hand?

For a brief moment you think to not take it, but know your Uncle would likely die from a stroke if you hadn’t. Pulled to your feet you stand before the man, truly a monster of man he was, standing even with Solhas. “Then it is done. Jon, you can take over from here. I tire of court, Cersei?” The woman stares at him, “Your Grace, if it would so please you I would rather stay for the rest.” The King waves her off, “So be it woman,” and stalks off, Ser Barristan and Ser Greenfield tailing him. This day you had done many things that felt wrong; wearing the clothing of the dead, swearing oath to a false King, sending your son away before him. This display had better please the Spider. As it ill pleased you. The King stops and speaks with Jon Arryn again briefly, “Allow them two hundred more men,” you catch. A small victory. Jon Arryn begins again, “My Lord Malroy. While you bent the knee and swore fealty to our Grace there are still penalties that must be applied to your House as they fought as traitors to our King.” You nod slowly, feeling a burning in your ears again, Lord Varys warned you of this but it still touched upon you in the worst of ways. “Lord Petyr Baelish, Master of Coin, shall brief you on the contents of such.”

The small goateed man steps forward and rolls up his parchment and retrieves another from his chest of considerably less size. He clears his throat and unravels it, “Lord Brynden Malroy of Steadhold. For your family’s allegiance to the Targaryen Dynasty years prior you and your descendants shall pay debt to the Crown until such time as it is paid in full.” Dontos has step beside you during this speech, knowing the debt was meant for him as well. “As reparations for the loss of the Royal Cavalry during wartime, your family has been relieved of one hundred Horses of the finest quality, their pedigrees becoming a part of the Crown’s holdings. Do you accept this my Lord?”
>>
You grind your teeth at that, a third of the herd, as far as you remembered, likely the rarest bloodline. Dontos eyes you, and you decompress under it, “Yes my Lord.”

He continues, “As further reparations your House now owes the Crown a debt of 5000 golden dragons. With an expected monthly payment of 400 each month, and an interest of 25%. Do you accept this my-”

Lord Baelish is cut off by the Queen, “Make it 3000 Lord Baelish.” He turns to her on his heel and bows deeply, “My Queen, the figures have been discussed endlessly before the proceedings, might I ask why?” She points at Solhas behind you, “A man that bears the name Tarbeck upon my doorstep, do you think my Lord father would suffer such an insult?” she turns her finger towards Mason, “And him, a rapist of the Tyrell’s, those who fought against the Crown as well.” And finally you, “And this boy. Some sellsword who dares mock my brother and the great deed he did for our King in slaying the Mad King upon these steps. Those are my reasons Lord Bealish.”

The small man maintains a fixed posture and turns to you once more. “Just claims my Lord. Do you accept this new amount of 3000 gold dragons?”

>I accept

Apparently I forgot how to numbers. Replace 3000 with 6000.

>>
>>42169125
Say only that you accept the debt the crown claims you owe. Do you owe 5000 or 6000? Well that's up for the crown to decide.
>>
>>42169125
>I accept
>>
>>42169255
I believe he was saying he ment make it 6000, not add 3000
>>
As a further point. 5000 gd = 25 Wealth. 6000 = 30gd. 400 a month is 2 Wealth.

Losing the herd is essentially losing a holding known as Rare Bloodline from OOSP.

>>42169224
It actually is, though Brynden isn't exactly the man to do it. He still may try.

The Queen does not have the authority to make this ruling over that of the King and the Hand. Unless they give their approval, this ruling is illegal.

I dunno, showing that we respect his authority and don't take well to people wrongfully usurping it might make him like us more.

Besides, us ruffling her feathers may make him like us more.

He seemed pretty unhappy already with Cersei anon. He pissed her off right on their marriage bed.

I'm not necessarily saying not to dispute it, just that we should dispute it without directly calling out the queen for overstepping herself.

Alright looks like we're going with refuting the claims.

However, how do you want to go about it?

>Appealing to Queen (essentially kissing her ass)
>Appealing to Law (bringing up how she has no true authority over the Hand and King)

These will each include a roll. What though, I won't tell until after the decision has been made. I'll apply some bonuses if anyone has some good write-ins. Here's Brynden's Character Sheet for guessing purposes.

What the fuck is Cercei's game, Jon's still in the room and she goes full retard? How come Jon isn't the one who's telling her to fuck off anyway?

Jon hasn't entirely had it with her yet. And is mostly waiting for your response. This isn't the first time a Valyrian House has refuted the claims. Celtigar and Velaryon did much of the same.

>>Appealing to Law (bringing up how she has no true authority over the Hand and King)
Man, where's Stannis when you need him..
>>
>>42169490
I kind of want to sideswip both of them, with a "surely my myriad other offenses merit a separate hearing and judgement instead of being grouped in with the punishment for my house's misplaced loyalties."

Technically not REFUSING the charges, but I'm pretty sure she'll have a hard time getting Robert to actually charge us with anything else
>>
>>42169580
I mean we have a decent cunning, punting the matter to a time ans place where we have better rhetorical terrain isnt beyond us
>>
>>42169500
I think cersei's game is to either make us her bitch, or to goad us into saying something that will REALLY make us her dad's enemy, because as it is now he'd get pissed off if she just punished us for badmouthing Jaime.
>>
>>42169580
I actually liked this point, working it in. It'll make for a fun interaction later.
>>
“My Lord I do not accept the claims nor this new amount,” he respond with a respectful tone, “With all due respect to her Highness, she has no basis in Law to usurper the word of my King or his Land? In this do I speak true Lord Arryn?” Your word of usurper shot blood and wrath into her eyes, which you met with a lazy stare. The audience that had thought the action of the day to be over has now resettled, paying attention to your brazen refusal of the Queen. Murmurs display the earlier quiet with a few claims for either side piercing through to your ears, one particularly of disemboweling you on the spot was quite colorful.

Jon cracks his knuckles and waves the crowd down before continuing, “My Lord would be correct, her Grace does have no such power.” He clears his throat as the crowd begins its uproar again, “However my Lord Malroy, you are also of no standing to refute such claims.”

In truth you knew this to be true, but your mind had little say in the matter as your lips continued, “As it is my Lord. However, surely the offenses of myself and my retainers warrant their own trial though? And not to be lumped into the proceedings of my House’s misplaced loyalties?”

Lord Arryn smiles at this sensing your game, “In that is truth My Lord Malroy. My Grace the Lord Malroy requests a trial upon a later date for his personal offenses and that of his party. Perhaps I may suggest before the Tournament to celebrate your Wedding in six months?”

Roll 3D6, this falls under Cunning, basically a Logic check.

Challenge (9), failed.

The Queen stands up and gathers herself, assured of herself. “I will allow such Lord Arryn. However until such claims are refuted, properly, my ruling still stands.” And with that she leaves, a member of the Kingsguard following after her with golden hair. The crowd expresses their opinions again and you feel deflated, and the eyes of your Uncle upon you in disapproval.

Lord Arryn continues after she is left, a clear look of disgust in his eyes, “And so it shall be so. By order of the Hand, the debt House Malroy will assume will be 6000 gold dragons. Until such time as a trial proper can be held for the Lord Malroy and his retainers, in six months time,” he turns to Lord Baelish who has been scrawling upon his parchment, “Is this understood Lord Baelish.”

“Yes my Lord,” he responds and straightens himself, “Lord Malroy, as further reparations your House now owes the Crown a debt of 6000 golden dragons. With an expected monthly payment of 400 each month, and an interest of 25%. Do you accept this my Lord?”

“I do my Lord,” you grind out, clearly your tone tasted of justice undone. The law was truly on your side, but you had no standing, your family had lost just that very much. It sickened you to your core. The wills of emotion could harm your family that much more.
>>
Lord Baelish continues, “We are not done my Lord. For his part in aiding his Grace in the Battle of the Trident. Lord Royce Redward has assumed half of your lands, the Red Tower, and its incomes. Do you accept this my Lord?”
You swore your molars were going to be dust by the end of this, “Yes my Lord, I do.”

Lord Baelish turns to Jon Arryn, “That is all my Lord. I believe the decree of power is within your hands.” Standing once more to address you Lord Arryn unrolls his own parchment and clears his throat, “Lord Malroy, for your family’s loyalties to the Targaryen Dynasty, you are to be allowed no more than 500 standing troops, and no more than 25 Household Knights, mounted or otherwise. However by the good graces of his Highness he has allowed you an extra 200 men. Do you accept this my Lord?”

This had to be it, the end of it, accept and leave, “Yes my Lord I do.”

And as if my sorcery of your will it was done, “Then so be it my Lord. Your signatures are all that are required. And you may return to your lands and holdings. And in six months time we will be expecting you back for the trial. Before so my Lord, do you have anything to declare?”

>Well, do you?
>Or do you simply wish to leave with having said nothing?

>>42170407
Well I think you get them adventuring in some numbers to the west the same as you get westerosi to the east. We could track some down and then the word spreading that someone was hiring them en masse would bring more to our doorstep. Really our one advantage is that our time in essos has opened our mind to lots of things no one else would ever think to do.

So one of the first things we should probably do is shop around for more favorable loans to quickly pay off this debt
>>
You stare into the Hand’s eyes, and speak nothing. Not so much as a noise of disgust your visage remains stone. He breaks your gaze and hands the decrees to a page “So be it my Lord.” The page rushes to you and places them upon a table, you sign with a stiff hand, no flair or otherwise to your signature. Dontos appears alongside you again and hands you a candle of gold and a press for your sigil, a reminder of the horses you lost already. The page salts the pages and hands your Uncle your two copies. “My Lord Brynden Malroy. On behalf of the King, we welcome you back into the King’s Peace. You may return to Steadhold, and to your services to the realm.”

You bow slightly and turn on your heel, your Uncle, Ser Mason and Solhas following after. The hour seems to have drawn to midday by the lack of shadow in the throne room. You emerge to find Elionwy, Victus, and Illiad waiting for you. The latter speaking in his native tongue to the woman as she nods along. Illiad regards you suddenly and looks relieved

“Lord. It is good to see you again. Did this go well?” he asks, standing up and giving a sharp bow.

“If my nephew knew how to hold his tongue against the bloody Queen herself, likely better,” your uncle interjects, you shoot him a look and he shrinks. “I’ll be at the villa Brynden. When you are ready to ride for home. Find me there.” Your Uncle shoves the decrees into Elionwy’s hands and leaves with a quick step and you are left with a sense of dread, he isn’t done not by a long mile.
>>
“Yes Illiad, it went as well as could be expected,” you shake your head and draw your hand through your hair, “Come, gather the men. Meet me at the Villa in an hour, I wish to be rid of this city for some time.”

“Your will, my hands Lord,” Illiad rushes off, Solhas and Mason in tow.

By now the audience has begun to leave, a few share dark looks with you others more respectful. One stops and bows to you sharply a knight with a field of crabs, “My Lord, it was a brave thing you did regarding the Queen. She over steps herself.”

>How do you respond to the man of many crabs? Respectfully? Brush him off?
>Anything to ask? Who are you? Do you perhaps recall the sigil and who he is in service to?

>>42170645
Hm, perhaps your right. I'll look into it and make a decision. Regardless, I do have a champion in mind that will tie to another event. So a Trial by Combat would work regardless.

>>42170512
I had thought they stayed in their cities exclusively? Beyond the fact they are really, REALLY far beyond Essos, Brynden never traveled further east than Volantis on a contract. He disliked Slaver's Bay.

But yes alternative units are expected. The amount of Myrmen in your service might open up some options and your travels seeing the exotic flairs of the east.

The arms look familiar, House Celtigar of Claw Island. Possibly a friend? One of the few Valyrian Houses like yourself. You were surprised they still had a presence within King’s Landing, let along the Red Keep. “You do me honor Ser, but I’m afraid you have me at a disadvantage.” The knight straightens from his bow and gives the crowd an uneasy gaze. “I do indeed my Lord and you must forgive me for such, I mean no offense, but the ears of the Keep are always listening. Would you do me the honor of allowing me to guide you?”

You see no reason by not, the man was hardly older than yourself, but spoke well and conducted himself well. If he was a fraud it was a damn good one. “Of course Ser,” he nods and takes his place next to you, Elionwy and Victus falling into their usual as well. He leads you through a route you were unfamiliar with, the results in a quieter section of the gardens with a view of the Narrow Sea. “As I said earlier my Lord I beg your forgiveness, I ill trust the capital since the Rebellion.” You follow after in silence, until he stops and ushers you towards a pavilion, as you settle in he continues, standing watch, “My Lord I am Ser Wilson Celtigar, third son of Lord Celtigar of Claw Island. I was asked by my Lord father to seek you out upon your return.” He stops as a few Goldcloaks pass by.

Unless I mistake myself, House Celtigar is well known for its wealth.

If we make a good impression here, we might ask their favour in order to pay off the debt to the crown and in effect transfer our debt to a house less likely to charge us 25-fucking-percent interest.

That shit is cheeky as fuck.
>>
You remain in silence and Ser Wilson continues, “This is a dangerous game my father plays my Lord. I’m sure you understand.” One beyond danger in fact, though you held a Household of people that could be considered traitors to the realm in each their own rights the active association with another family of old Valyria would do little for your reputation in the Crown’s eye. “I was to make you an offer in my Lord father’s name my Lord. He wishes to purchase your villa in King’s Landing, it is lavish from the time before the Rebellion and no doubt holds many memories best forgotten,” an odd offer to receive so quickly after receiving a mighty debt upon your House.

You give him a strange look before he continues, “My father in his old age has taken pleasure in the finery of life my Lord, the castle upon Claw Island is a sight to beyond. Would it be such our pleasure to host you someday my Lord.” He fiddles with his sword belt and assured of the passing of nature finally takes seat across from you, he regards you with blue eyes, his face graced by a fine beard and his hair of gold. “My Lord, I urge you to take my Lord father’s offer, though he may be a sour man, he does not offer extend kindness to his fellow Lords so readily.”

>Questions about the offer? Negotiations, price, etc?

>Tell him that we will sell it to his Lord Father after we assess it's value, as we have only recently come back to Westeros and would like to offer a fair price to such a generous man.

I have a feeling that there might be something hidden in the villa, so I don't want to sell it immediately.
>>
I assume we're not staying in King's Landing, so I don't see the harm in selling the villa. We must make sure we don't leave any family heirlooms in there or something. Obviously we'd need a price, first.
>>
>>42171163
>I could have sworn that was further east?
Dang looks like you're right, in assumed that was like qohor at the furthest. Well I still think there are probably a few of them wandering the actually accessible parts of essos, we should at the very least ask whoever hooked us up with mercenary contracts to send any they come across our way...
>>
>>42171345
>Questions about the offer? Negotiations, price, etc?

Would renting/leasing it out to him be an acceptable alternative?
>>
>>42171423
Likely not. The Lord Celtigar could build his own with the same money he'd spend on that. And he has another far more grand villa already, he looks to own and flex those wealth muscles.
>>
>>42171345
>>Questions about the offer? Negotiations, price, etc?
Make it clear that while we're not willing to make a decision as of yet we're not closing the door either, we just need the time to look at our finances and assess our options.
>Questions about Ser Wilson Celtigar?
What do you do besides running errant for your Lord father.

Keep the dragon egg and anything pertaining it to ourself for now.
>>
Is no one else worried about how we're getting married in six months?
>>
>>42171345
We have no wish to offend, but the danger does apply to us as well, as well as your father. We will almost certainly be doing to sell the villa after we can have it assessed, but beyond that... Now is not the time to make any plans for certain.
>>
>>42171468

Then just sell it to him.
>>
>>42171345
>Questions about the offer? Negotiations, price, etc?
"Were it any other house making this offer, Ser, I would worry your father was hoping to take advantage of my precarious situation."

"As it stands, you do me great honour with this offer - and it would please me to negotiate once i'm more settled. Perhaps even during a visit to Claw Island? Your hospitality is legend, after all. Or, if you preferred, we could host you at Steadhold."

Lay on the flattery pretty hard to show we're friendly and receptive to the offer. Don't commit to anything yet - but let him know that we're willing to talk more outside the capital.

I suspect the house may be a pretext to talk to us, as another Valyrian house. He doesn't trust the capital, guys.
>>
>>42171644
>I suspect the house may be a pretext to talk to us, as another Valyrian house. He doesn't trust the capital, guys.
Sounds more likely.
>>
>>42171644
This
>>
>>42171644
Its a flimsy pretext indeed though.

Unless we deliberately muck up the contract and then have a lengthy vicious lawsuit that goes on for years that where we constantly meet up to argue with each other about who owes who what (and conspire against the usurper)

Oh, by the by, does royce redward have any rapeable sisters? Turnabout is fair play dontchaknow
>>
>>42171644
Addendum:
In negotiations, we might try to use the villa as a "deposit" of sorts for a larger loan, to pay off our crown debt and assuage the problems of interest, since 25% is daylight robbery. They get temporary use of the villa, and if we default on a payment on the loan, they get ownership of it. Once that whole thing is resolved it reverts to us and we could negotiate further if he still wants to buy it.

Thoughts?
>>
"Were it any other house making this offer, Ser, I would worry your father was hoping to take advantage of my precarious situation,” you respond giving him an eye for effect. He laughs, “My Lord father would do such thing my Lord. Merely a courtesy to fellow House.”

You remain uneasy about selling the villa so quickly, though it was ransacked during the Sack of King’s Landing it was likely there was still something of a degree of worth in it, even if sentimental. “Ser Wilson, you must understand my hesitation in such regards. The villa holds much value to me and my own. And I would not so easily sell it, despite the pain it may bring.” He seems almost prepared for this response easing back into his seat, “My Lord father expected as much my Lord. If such a deal could not be reached upon this hour he would suggest a visit to Claw Island in the future my Lord. To hammer out the finer details, one a man such as myself would not be so inclined to do alone.”

Ah that was it, this was much more than a show of Wealth and Power on the Celtigar’s part, they wished to gain measure of you, see where loyalties lie, the sort of man you had become or if you were anything like Donold. “Ser your Lord father does be a great courtesy offering such an invitation. Inform him that I would offer much the same, if he should so wish to see the mainland he may come and visit Steadhold, it would do me much honor.” He chews this thought over, clearly expecting more of you to bend in his favor, you take the initiative in this silence. “May I ask good Ser, what do you do besides running errands for your Lord father?”
>>
“I am a Hedge Knight my Lord. Though one of Noble standings I aim to offer my services to a House worthy of my name upon the mainland and win my glory in that way,” he says stopping his thoughts to one of a more personal and prideful nature. He is but a boy it would seem, still bright eyed and aspiring to the true values of Knighthood, something you never reached. “A noble aim Ser, truly in these trying times for our lands,” you stop for a moment regarding a passing lady and her handmaidens, “Perhaps I would be so inclined to accept your Lord father’s most gracious offer, in due time. Ask him to send me a raven in Steadhold, that we may speak further.”

Ser Wilson stands, smiling, his poker face was poor, you immediately knew your instincts were right. Pretext to something greater perhaps, a simple vehicle to further spoken word.

>Anything else to ask Ser Wilson?
>Or beg leave and be offer?

It'd certainly broadcast our affiliation and possible alliance for all the world to see. Probably ill advised at this early stage.
>>
>>42171976
Ser Wilson wouldn't be the person to ask of that. He's a man of war, he spent most of his time during the Rebellion fighting and the year after on Claw Island, apart from news of the realm outside of what he needed to know.

Alright so seeing some support to ask him to swear his sword to you, some to offer him a place to kick up his feet on his travels. So:

>Offer to host Ser Wilson Celtigar as your sworn sword
>Hold off for now, merely offering him a place to stay should he be in the area
>>
>>42172034
Yeah we should probably do one or the other. And Honestly? Hiring the celtigar is my preference. You think for a moment and stand to meet the man, he tempts you, if you were to ask it would be unlikely he would say no to an offer to stay in Steadhold as your sworn sword. But a temptation much too soon to take up. Offering your hand to the lad he takes it with vigor, “Lord Malroy it was truly an honor to meet you upon this day, I shall relay your thoughts to my Lord father, he would happy to hear such honors bestowed upon him and his.”

“I would hope as much Ser Wilson, but as of now I must beg your leave. My Uncle and men will be waiting for me, and I have want to depart from this city in short order,” he say giving the garden a fair look of disdain, one he agrees with. “My Lord I could not agree more, I will be sailing north to Dragonstone upon the morrow, and send raven to my Lord father in the coming days. Before I return to the mainland and do as a Hedge Knight must.”

Gathering the bored Victus and Elionwy to yourself again you break your hold of the man’s hand and begin to leave before turning, “Oh, Ser Wilson, if your travels should ever find you in Steadhold, my household would be given great honor in hosting you.” He smiles again, seeing his temptation did not entirely fail, “You do me great honor with such an offer my Lord, I will remember this. Good day my Lord.”
>>
We're directly under the King, because we're in the Crownlands, right? Do you think Robert will invite us to go hunting?
>>
Elionwy takes over as your guide again and Victus chats of their adventures during your proceedings, they had found the stables and Victus thought the golden coursers there to be your own, but when he went to pet one it bit at him, scaring him half to death. Elionwy had taken him to get a sweet from the kitchens afterwards, “I don’t understand father, they looked like Goldsong, why were they so mean?”

Your own horse, Goldsong, though trained for war was as kind to be to the lad, and through his blood the other horses liked him well enough. The golden coursers in the stables may have been yours but those taken from you prior to your arrival, “I’ve little idea Victus. Perhaps when we reach Steadhold the horses will be kinder?” He notes this with a whistle and continues on his little rant about the Keep.

You reach the gates to leave the Red Keep in short order, your family’s villa a short walk from here. By your estimation you had a half hour until you needed to meet the Sons and your Uncle, enough to see or do anything else if you so wished.

Oh no definitely not. Most of your old friends in King's Landing are probably dead or gone back home. Even the whorehouse you met Lysa in is likely gone. This was eight years ago mind. You hadn't started mercing until your time in Essos.

>>
You take the lead from Elionwy still knowing the steps from the Red Keep to your family’s villa, a short jaunt through the district that housed many such villas, you spotted the sigils of Langward and Manning as you pass, their familiar arms setting you at peace. You wondered if such Houses met the same fate as your own, or if they turned upon the Targaryens just as easily. You banish the thoughts as you arrive at the rear of your villa, a small stable for your family’s horses, now occupied by your own. It was likely the Sons were sent here during the proceedings. They were likely just as restless as you were and wanted gone of this city. Victus breaks your hold and bounds over to the fence and over to Goldsong, petting him happily. Elionwy takes to standing and watching him from across the yard and you continue around, hearing yelling as you do so.

“YOU ARE NO LORD. I DO NOT ANSWER TO YOU,” Illiad’s voice no doubt broken common as it was.
“You are in service to the same lord as I Myrman. And I out rank you, you will listen to my orders,” and that was Dontos. Grand.

A line was drawn between your lone Uncle, and Illiad surrounded by Ser Haigh and Barq Zos of the Sons. Your uncle eyes you and rushes to you, “Tell your sellswords they will obey orders Nephew. I’ve no doubt they get such defiance from you if the display in the throne room was any indication but they must answer to my orders.”

Illiad for his part laughs with Barq joining in, “Lord. I do not ride for this man. Only you.”

Pretty good write in, maybe add our uncle would need to prove himself to these men before they followed his orders. They are sell swords first and foremost afterall, not knights.
>>
>>42173171

A good bit. He's a slave, a valuable one, but one illiad would be glad to have, seeing as it's his younger brother. So you'd need to buy his contract, protection and passage to Steadhold, and then pay for setting up a new shop for him in Steadhold. So yeah basically, >>42173241.

Well, I'd really suggest simply telling the men that he has only our interests at heart, and also understands more of what's going on than we do, so while they have no need to listen to abuse, they should probably heed him when he's not being an asshole

Our first born as in our bastard or the future legitimate firstborn we have to HDW?

Pretty sure if one somehow escapes here he's free
>>
>>42173442

>>
We could sent, say, twenty good men to Myr, have him kidnapped and brought to Westeros then free him. Once he's finished his training, of course. Then we can have mounted crossbowmen.
>>
Eyeing your uncle again with a vicious spite he stands down a mite knowing he has been beat and where your loyalties may lie to your family, “A Myrman does not care about Westerosi rank, uncle. You may not like it, but what I have picked up in my travels may be the only advantage we have against more stable houses that have faced only their countrymen here in Westeros.” He wants to summon more argument but you continue addressing Illiad, “And like it or not Illiad, Dontos is my Uncle, I’d ask you to respect his orders unless they are completely counteractive of my own. Understood?”

“Yes Lord. Your will,” he responds simply and moves to leave with Barq and Ser Haigh.

“Uncle, must you start a bloody fight with everyone you encounter?”

“Better than starting a fight with the damned Queen, Brynden! What if you are challenged to a Trial by Combat!? And if you die with only a bas-, ahem with only an illegitimate child as your heir?” he retorts.

“Then you would petition he is legitimized, and follow his lead Uncle. You would teach him, guide him. You would treat him as family Uncle,” he say under strained voice, “You question where my loyalty to this family might lie Uncle, but answer me this, for whom do you ride?”
>>
Ser Mason cuts the tension as he descends from the villa with Solhas and Yondril flanking him. “Brynden, the Sons searched the place in their boredom and found little and less about the villa. Perhaps you would know what secrets it held better than we?” He offers you way up into the doors, and though you are reluctant to take them to the place where your family died you… Needed to. To bring a measure of peace to your mind of the place, at least you would not flee it as a coward. With careful steps you move inside to the entrance hall, it was in poor shape to say the least, blood still flecked the walls in places. “My lord it is like this throughout much of the household, barring one room that is a bloody mess, looked like a bedroom, I wouldn’t advise going in there myself. Ser Haigh is still trying to keep down his meal after that.”

You follow the halls and rooms as you remember, your own room a quiet empty with no furniture to speak of. You ascend to the upper reaches of the house meeting a few of the Sons along the way and sending them off to ready themselves to leave. Your father’s solar stands at the end of the this hall, the only real place of note left. You enter to the now disaster of a room, his desk overturned and the vault below it raided. Your Lord Father was always a more private man then that though, he liked to hide small things here and there, things of importance. You tried to see through the eye of the man you had not known for eight years.

Pretty sure trial by combat is the ACCUSED'S right to demand, not the accuser. And probably we're better off with the judgement of the king or the hand than cersei getting to pick a champion from the cream of the crop of the seven kingdoms.

Challenge (9), (12), (15), rolled 11, burned Destiny Point +5. All succeeded.

In your mind’s eye you remember something, you Lord father had once taken you to a secret room in the Villa, there was a secret button somewhere, a small lever… You paced the room, Ser Mason eyeing you with curiosity, “My Lord there is nothing here but death and broken things, let us be gone.” You place a hand up to silence the man that takes him aback, “Brynden..?” You reach around the fireplace mantle, a loose brick something unlikely in the construction, you press it and the sound of stone on stone echoes throughout the room. A small doorway opens up in the pit of the fireplace a ladder reaches down.

“My father once showed me this Mason, it was a family secret, told me the second son must protect this, while the first protected the one in Steadhold,” you recall the memory fondly, only made bitter by the day after telling him of Lysa’s pregnancy with Victus. “Wait here, I still remember the way, I’ll call to you if I find anything of worth and need aid,” you say while mounting the small ladder and call up in an echo. The passage is dark but you still remember it, thirty paces forward, a left, then a room on the end. The door is heavy but unremarkable and gives way to your pushes. You find a torch upon the wall and rekindle it with easy lighting your small room to find items of wealth upon your House.
>>
It would seem your family tapped the family’s resources here at least once, you swore there was more coin but 600 gold dragons was more than before. Leather bound books sat lined and covered in dust along the wall, you pick one off and take a cloth to it, fingering it lightly, records. Your entire family’s lineage starting from the days of old Valyria, and that of the horse’s started by Ser Aeson Malroy all those years ago, they spoke of the breeds your family held, specific victories they won, even of the line you lost, but most importantly, where that line interbreed with the other horses. You could recreate the rare bloodline with careful breeding, it occurs to you to check for Goldsong, a sire of the rare bloodline. You had your family’s potential wealth reborn.

A single item left lie on the desk though. Held on a mount and covered in glass it looked a long bone, dark in nature. You uncovered it and held the massive thing in your hands, it flexed but was strong, it seemed of goldenwood. No it was something more, it was dragon bone. The egg was your family’s pride, but this was far older, of old Valyria when your family could still ride unlike their descendants on the Westros. You take this prize with you and return to the ladder and call up to Mason, “Send a few of the Sons down Mason! Tell them to be careful!” Within a few hours the prizes were secured within a wagon and ready to make break for Steadhold.
>>
“Nephew… How did you know of this? My father never spoke of such things,” Dontos asks his eyes glazed over at the bone you are still turning over in your hands.

“I’ve little and less idea Dontos. An old memory, faded by age, but just the right amount remained, you smiled at him, “We can rebuild our wealth from this Uncle, there is something to begin with here.”

His look is less of happiness, “But do you still mean to sell the villa? Your… son said something of it when talking to that Myrwoman of yours.”

>Tell your Uncle of the deal Ser Wilson brought up
>Forget that guy he’s still being a right prick
>>
>>42174335
>Admit nothing, ask him whether he would object
"Do you think we ought to keep it, when we live so close to the capital and need money so desperately?"
>>
So to sum up the loot:

>20 castle forged weapons (enough to arm the Sons of Gold)
>600 gd (3 Wealth)
>Records of your family's lineage and the rare bloodline you lost (-2 to cost of Rare Bloondline holding)
>the bone of a dragon, unused (a master smith could turn this into a bow with a great deal of coin and searching)
>>
>>42174140
>>42174076

Seconding this.
>>
You should give Cersei a horse, but it should be significantly worse than our horse and we should present it to her while it stands next to our horse
>>
You place a hand on your Uncle’s shoulder, one he flinches from initially but calms down as you look him in the eye seemingly of legitimate council, “It is an option Uncle, do you not think it should be? It is a place of old wealth, and we are of little right now, it should remain an option no?”

For all his bluster the prospect of finally living the capital seems to have eased your Uncle, “Yes nephew, it should remain an option but it would pain me to do so. Just… Seek my council before you make such decisions, that is all I ask nephew.”

During this the Sons have mounted up, Ser Mason calling them under order, another two have taken up positions on the wagon alongside Elionwy, with their mounts used as beasts of labor an ill fit if you ever saw it. Victus leads his pony, the youngest of Goldsong’s children, and the sire himself to you. Your Uncle mounts alongside you and the procession begins. Dontos rides alongside you and you continue your conversation, “As of now Uncle I’ve made such decisions and young boys should learn to keep their lips sealed more often. Is that not right Victus?” you call back, the boy turns a shade of red, “Yes father,” he responds meekly.

The ride home is slow, the journey to Steadhold usually doesn’t take more than a week to ride, but the wagon slows you down. During this time your talks with Dontos become more personal, he tells you of his time in King’s Landing and the dungeons. How his sword arm never set right again after they broke it. He could still fight but at a disadvantage now. These talks soon turned to Victus as well. “Uncle he could use a positive influence. You are his family. I see no reason why you cannot take him as your squire.”
>>
“Because… I don’t know the boy Brynden, he shakes in fear of me. Of my own fault of course, but… It drove you from the family. That Lysa of yours. I still have trouble forgiving that.”

“Then heal Uncle. He is as much your family as I am. I would have him know the Knight you once were, not the broken man you are now.”

“I don’t know nephew…”

Can't there be some sort of middle ground? Just ask him to show victus a few things, see how his somewhat eclectic training holds up to a knight's standards. We can pressure further later if it seems like a good idea.

>>
>>42174953
Victus is only 8 right now. He's right on the cusp of being able to learn properly, if this isn't taken then he would instead squire for Ser Mason. And learn differently in the process. Your Uncle is the better Knight by far, but Mason is more versatile. It's a path decision for Victus essentially.

You give him a measured and level gaze and he finally relents, “Fine Brynden. I’ll take the boy. But he will serve. Maybe he’ll learn to hold his tongue better than his damnable father,” your uncle chuckles at this and you join him. You share a laugh, a genuine one, Dontos is a man changed to be certain but he is still your Uncle. You love the man, despite the past few days, you only hope he can foster such love for your son. “To be fair Uncle it was either you or the Second Sons, I’ve little doubt you’d want even a half son to leave for Westeros again,” he chews this over and laughs again, “Depends upon how he is as my squire Brynden. At least he knows how to tend to the horses. Goldsong looks as strong as ever, he was but a pony when you left. How you managed to keep him in Essos is beyond me.”

The rest of your journey is more fondly reminded, Ser Haigh was attacked by a badger when he was taking a piss in a bush and Barq Zos has still yet to let it go. Much to the young man’s chagrin. Upon the eighth day you spy Steadhold in the distance, a sight eight years old but one that brings a warmth to your heart, you clutch at your sister’s braid held near in your breast pocket, “We are to be home soon dear sister,” you whisper in almost a silent prayer.
>>
Steadhold is a strong fortification that sets along the Goldroad and Blackwater Rush. Though not entirely dissimilar to the Twins in its construction the majority of the Keep is held on the northern side of the Rush and only a small outcrop of a tower and stone bridge extend to the south. The rest of the keep is surrounded by a curtain wall with two gatehouses and six towers and another wall rings itself around the castle proper with one gatehouse and two towers. The castle sits upon a small hill in the middle and is grand structure of grey stone. A tower caps each corner of the square building and reach far into the sky a few fair stories above the rest of the structure. Decorated with stained glass and ornate carvings into the stone of rushing horses and intricate designs. The Castle faces west, ever watchful of those that may come along the Goldroad. Behind the castle is an expansive stable and a small course to work them out on.

Three riders meet you, your Uncle calls to them, “Jonos! Olliver, Worsh!” They hail him with happiness in their voices, “Members of the Houshold Guard Brynden, those that remained at least. Jonos is my second.” You greet them and they return with nods and m’lords. The three men escort you to the Dragon’s Gate, the one leading to the capital, another man awaits you there. Short and old in his age you recognize him immediately, “Maester Benjin! You yet live!” You call and swing down from your horse to greet the man in a hug, “My Lord Brynden, it is the greatest of pleasures to see you home once more,” he responds, “Come my Lord. The guard is here to escort you to the castle, but I’ve no doubt you’d like to see the town as you walk.”

The old maester was always business, and you knew he wouldn’t greet you without express reason, “Tell me Benjin, how is Steadhold, our lands?”

“Where do you wish to begin my Lord?”

You hand the reins of Goldsong to your Uncle, “Find the men a place to set up Dontos, they’ll likely do the same in their right, but best you gave them a spot first.” He nods and calls Jonos to him and they continue along the path towards the castle, Victus goes to dismount but you eye him and he stays with Dontos instead. Something he’ll have to get use to no doubt.

Turning once more to Maester Benjin you regard him once more and take him by the arm as you travel into the outer ring of Steadhold, “I suppose we should start with the loss of income Maester,” you say examining the town fallen into disrepair there seems far fewer people here than your youth. The scars of the Sack of Steadhold are still unhealed.

“As you are well aware my Lord, the newly made Lord Royce Redward has taken our southern lands,” he coughs briefly and continues, “This includes, the southern portion of the Goldroad, Red Tower, and the western reaches of the Kingswood. Through this we’ve lost a way to harvest timber, the industries held up by this having fallen through as well. The Lord Royce has also enacted his own tolls upon the road, though rumors speak they are nothing more than glorified highwaymen, and we’ve too little power to stop him, travelers pass through our castle without paying a copper.”
>>
This tasted poor to you, you need both of those to hold up any industry that may rebirth. You couldn’t rely on the horses for everything, speaking of, “The lost of the family’s prized bloodline has hurt our sales of the horses as well my Lord. Our House’s reputation being a portion of this as well. A third of the herd is now gone and many died upon the Trident as well. We’ve only begun to rebuild them now. Master-of-Horse Gawen can speak more to that than I my Lord.”

“Then of the land Maester, or what of it is left,” you ask next, regarding the burnt out husk of a port, likely a product of the Sack as well.

“Of equally poor measure my lord. The fields go unattended, our population too low to maintain them. The horse fields are at least still maintained and we lose little of them. Thankfully the King’s Law has kept bandits at bay however, for the time at least. To the north the Langward’s begin to push their claim on the shared land that maintains a small usable forest. But we’ve no power to fight their claim either.”

Equally poor news, you could use that land now, and without a fight as well. You needed to be quick and take it before the Langward’s had their way.

“Curious of my Lord?”

“For no fear of reprisal from the King my lord. It is within their rights, as much as it is in yours to contest it. But with our lowered military might I would advise against it.”

“What sort of military might do we hold Maester?” you ask, bitterly reminded of the limits placed upon you by the Crown, “Poor my Lord. The Household Guard is only 100 strong now, far too few to hold Steadhold properly. In turn this turns the outer ring to petty crimes, knowing no one is there to police their actions. As for fieldable might we have none, other than your riders it would appear.” You shake your head at this in disbelief, “My lord we will hold enough power however to recruit more, the small folk would happily come for promise of food and shelter in Steadhold,” a small portion of good news.

“That being said we have little less to arm them with anymore, our forges have run cold since the Sack my Lord. No iron from the Westerlands to feed them, we’ve stocks, but nothing more than,” and back to poor news once again.

Fear the answer you finally ask the last of your questions. “And what of Steadhold herself Benjin, truly not all of the news can be so bleak.”
>>
The old man sighs and looks out at the outer ring from the small hill leading up to the castle and then back to you, “My lord I wish it were not so, but truly there is nothing but bleak news for this House. Steadhold is in ruin, we’ve not the coin to repair it, and now owe the Crown such a sum as to not be able to invest it into our holdings and recover.” He speaks to you blunt and honest truth, the old man knows you need to hear it, and while you take it as well as one might imagine, sans broken table, you reserve your wrath for those who deserve it truly. “Maester, summon my Uncle, the Lady Elionwy, and Gawen. Meet me in the solar, we will begin to devise a plan.”

Alright folks, time for some actual House Fortune stuff, the crunch beneath the large amount of fluff. I’ll be using Brynden’s Status for this at all times, unless things suddenly change.

Later on, we need massive reforms. We can only have, what, a thousand men? We'll need 800 mounted archers, and the other two hundred can be siege engineers. If Iron and Hate has taught me anything, it's that siege weapons can fuck over even the best units.

It was mentioned earlier that the first son knew of a hidden stash of valuables in Steadfast, we should look into searching for the hidden vault, there might be something very useful in it.
>>
Opps, accidentally cut a part off from the beginning.

“The Langwards, they have been our allies for years Benjin. Why do they choose to take land shared for centuries now?”
>>
Rolled 3, 6, 4, 3 = 16 (4d6)

>>42176676
>>
Rolled 5, 4, 3, 6 = 18 (4d6)

>>42176676
>>
>>42176713
700, and 25 knights, I'd also advise against that.

And the first son's gift was a reference to the dragon egg and the vault, of which you know of. The former is gone.
>>
Rolled 3, 4, 3, 1 = 11 (4d6)

>>42176713
>>
>>42176788
Damn, guess we'll have to deal with that as it comes. Still, horse archers should be our primary weapon.

We need ways to make money, and quickly. The obvious industries are fishing and logging. Perhaps we could sell jewelry? It would depend on if we can find a good mine, but even then it would take months to start producing.
>>
>>42176761
>>42176784
>>42176864

Alright then of the highest roll 18, you gain a Boon. Perhaps the best welcoming home gift you could receive.

So for that I'll allow a 1d6 to one resource or 1d3 to two resources.
>>
>>42176924
1d6 to wealth
>>
>>42176924
Land and law get d3
>>
>>42176924
1d6 on WEALTH
>>
>>42176950
Just because I need to point this out, your Law stat is fucking amazing. Of all the things to mess with, that would be the last, honestly.
>>
Wealth and power. We could get a better military unit with more power, since we already have 8. This month's debt is already paid off with the coin we found at the villa.
>>
>>42177020
We have 23 Influence, can't we trade a bit of that for Wealth? Same for Law into Power?
>>
>>42176924

1d6 for Wealth
>>
>>42177101
Yes, actually. If you wanted to gain some more Power you could very easily push it from Law at 1:1. Or 2:1 Law into Wealth if you wanted to as well. The maximum gain for this is 10.

Alright looks like a 1d6 for Wealth then, give me a 1d6+1 folks.
>>
If our next child has Valyrian hair will they have to dye it too?
>>
Rolled 6 + 1 (1d6 + 1)

Rolling
>>
Rolled 4 + 1 (1d6 + 1)

>>42177211
>>
>>42177229
Eyeing how we're gonna get a HDW, I doubt they will have silver hair. Is it recessive, cause I tend to think of it like being blond. Mix it with a not!Spanish chick, and you get black or brown hair, with purple eyes if they're lucky
>>
>>42177257
>>
>>42177320

Which is funny 'cause I rolled two 1s earlier today.
>>
>>42177314
*seeing

Wonder how that happened
>>
>>42177257

... Well alright then. No further rolls needed. That's a +7 to Wealth there folks giving you a solid 8 to work with. Good way to return home indeed.

So if you look at the worksheet you have 8 Power and 8 Wealth of which to work with. Both respectable numbers as of now. Any desire to convert some Law into anything? I'd warn against going below 40 below that there be bandits.
>>
>>42177314
Baratheon genes takes priorities over anything they mate with, maybe we have some super rare Valyrian strain of that?
>>
>>42177314
This is basically right. I'll be rolling for it behind the scenes, regardless of wife. It'll be at a severe disadvantage with HDW, not so much with the other options.
>>
>>42177375
If say we push 4 law into power, to beef up our military.
>>
>>42177375
>Power to 10, either train train/raise some infantry with that or bank it for next month
>>
>>42177375
Need also to get our lord out of the potato class and start learning it's letters
>>
>>42177423
>>42177435

Any disagreement on this? I will say, that a trained unit of Infantry will cost you 7, whereas a Veteran 9.

A veteran force of archer+cavalry would be 11, trained 9. Warhorse herds give you a -2 cost to Cav units.
>>
>>42177538
None from me.
>>
>>42177417
Sorry lads, but in the interest of retaining the superior silver hair of old Valyria, I think we should marry fair haired. Maybe a Lannister ;)
>>
Alright then, that's a -2 to Law and in return +2 Power.

Any particulars on what sort of unit you would like to raise? If anything?

Anything you'd like to do with the Wealth? Sit on it, or perhaps start a project?
>>
>>42177673
Can we start trying to rebuild that port? Maybe get that Langward ass to help with a small share of wealth and the same rights to the land in dispute?
>>
>>42177630
I'll kill you
>>
>>42177673
Infantry
>>
>>42177673
Do the Langwards have any sons we could ward/hostage? Or maybe even unwed women? Is our uncle married?
>>
>>42177731
Lord Langward has nothing to gain helping you in such a way. It would simply sound like man in debt begging.

That and a port costs 10 wealth.

>>42177797
You haven't the foggiest clue. Lord Langward is unknown entirely, outside of an eldest son. And no Dontos is not married.
>>
>>42177797
marriage cost money, depending of the size you aim for it could cost quite a lot.
>>
>>42177794
Alright infantry seems to be the only thing gaining any support.

As mentioned, -7 for Trained, -9 for Veteran.
>>
>>42177914

Trained, please.
>>
>>42177914
Maybe send some wealth off as the first payment of our debt? Send a message about being honest and following the law at least.
>>
>>42177673
Infantry or Scouts
>>
>>42177967
Turn 3 Influence into wealth and send the 1st payment, keep whatever we have left for next month
>>
>>42177967
>>42177967
You already made this months payment. It was essentially taken out the gold you received at the Villa. And though you can pay more on the principle, you will still have to pay interest on it.

I'm not sure where you guys got that confused. And you have plenty of wealth to work with regardless.
>>
>>42178063
We did? Oh sorry. I didn't see a mention of it so I assumed we hadn't payed yet. If we have then nope fuck them. We just need to kill that redward fuck and get the egg.
>>

Here, maybe this will help a mite on the Wealth Holdings front.

This is what I'll be using for the duration of the quest.
>>
>>42177855
A wedding might cost money, but it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Our uncle can marry a girl in the family of a neighbouring family and they we could increase our potential power. Obviously we'd have to back them in their disputes too.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d3)

>>42177938

Alright, I'll add a unit of Trained Infantry then. The roll will be for amount of time it takes to raise them and bring them up to standard.

>>42178159
It's mentioned on the worksheet. I think I said something here, if not my mistake.
>>
>>42178209
A saboteur to mess with the Redward fucking shits would be great, maybe next month.
>>
>>42178209
Thugs at the Ready sounds useful for plausible deniability.
>>
>>42178353

And would go directly against the promise you made to your Uncle should they be found out.

>>42178209

From this I'd make a few suggestions. Horse Husbandry>Rare Bloodline, you've a -2 to cost on it after all. Salvage operation. Steward. Those all fall within your price range.

>>42178441
Again, against your promise to your uncle, and totaling 10 Wealth.
>>
>>42178516
Get a start in rebuilding the herd!
>>
Alright I think I'm just going to close things now.

Interest seems to have died, so I won't force the issue.

I'll be opening the net thread with allocated Brynden's EXP and getting him on a general path. Same for Victus.

I'll accept ideas for Wealth purchases during this as well if any interest occurs during such.

So essentially. End of Chapter II.

Next thread will be either Saturday or Sunday at 2PM EST maybe earlier if I'm up, I'll announce which on my twitter:

https://twitter.com/RevengeGoldQM

Sorry for fizzling out at the end folks, and looks like we're going to fall off the board soon. I'll be around if anyone has questions. Thank you all for playing again.
>>
>>42178897
Sunday next week or tomorrow Sunday?
>>
>>42178938
Next week actually, I'll be working tomorrow.

Going to archive the thread now.
>>
We should marry Robert's bastard, the one he actually liked, then show up with her at court one day and be like "Hello, Robert"
>>
>>42178209
We have to decide now what our principal aim is. To pay down the debt as fast as possible, to minimise the amount of wealth wasted on interest repayments.

Or, to rebuild our assets in the hope of achieving a higher per month income, at the cost if a higher debt amount and lost money to interest.
>>
If we're trying to appear non threatening, I'd like to start an Apiary. Fairly cheap, give out wealth, and can be upgraded multiple times to provide trade goods.

Brothels would be possible, as they would bring a lot of traders and travelers in from around the realm, especially if we upgrade to pleasure house. After that, we start charging tolls. As a bonus, we could bring in people with diverse skills, and write it off as them being fond of the pleasure houses. This way, we could amass a group of craftsmen, traders, and assassins without people noticing.
>>
And thread archived. So I'm about done for the night.

If anyone is interested this is a restructured House Malroy History, Holdings and Personage page:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MB1FAoklpIRj8rCyY6rHCDcmTIASW3Vcl4caxJDy9-E/edit?usp=sharing

It is indeed wordy as fuck. The most important updates are to the family's of Malroy and Redward, including quite a few details about both.
>>
>>42179211
Thanks for the thread, goodnight
>>
>>42179125
Valid points both. It really does depend upon how you go about it, but paying down on these principle will result in done extra costs as well. Though considerably less.

>>42179175

All valid options. And who doesn't mind a good whorehouse? Well Dontos actually.
>>
>>42179211
Good night, and thanks for running.
>>
>>42179369
Is there anything Dontos actually does like?
>>
>>42179643
Trueborn members of the family who don't sire bastards and are completely dutiful. I.e. Dontos
>>
>>42179643

The Seven actually. He is an incredibly pious man, if you build any sort of religious holding related to them he would be very happy.
>>
>>42179821
What gods do we hold to? Essosi ones? The Seven?
>>
>>42180351
Brynden believes in the Seven as well. He just isn't as religious as his Uncle happens to be. He's now likely to curse someone to the seven hells than pray to aspect. Victus however is a blank slate but will likely grow up believing in the Seven now.
