You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

The world seems to freeze around you as your eyes are transfixed by the screen, unable to tear your gaze away from the sight of Milly in the clutch of her OB ex-comrades. Immediately, you try to glean any detail at all from the video, but the OB guys who set up the recording were careful. The background was a blank white tarp. All the people on screen besides Milly were masked and wearing matching jumpsuits, making it impossible to discern any unique characteristics.

"Valkyrie, or shall I say, Karla Weiss." A warped, deliberately altered voice rolls out from the speakers. "We know you are close to Milly, and if you ever hope to see her alive again, you will listen to what we have to say."

You grit your teeth. Obviously, he meant demands, though he was savvy enough to not outright say that they were. However, you don't have much choice but to keep listening.

"You currently have three options." The voice continues. "One, you turn yourself in to our custody, and we let Milly go free. A life for a life. Two, you agree to never interfere in our affairs again, and we keep Milly alive and unharmed in our custody as insurance. Three, you continue to do what you do, and we send this little traitor back to you piece by piece."

"Don't fucking listen to 'em! Karla!" Milly shouts. "I don't care what these fu-"

On of her guards slams the butt of his rifle into Milly's stomach, immediately silencing her, while another drops the black bag over her head again and drags her off screen.

You fists ball so tight, your nails are practically drawing blood now.

"We expect an answer by-" However, the voice is interrupted when you see someone in an OB uniform stomp in, and the video cuts out for a second. A sign of obvious editing. The voice then continues, a bit more agitated now. "After some 'discussion' with our senior members, we have a fourth, alternate proposal for you. You come out to the Round Table, alone, and prove your mettle against our best pilots. If you somehow survive... well, then we'll see what happens. We expect an answer within 48 hours."

With that, the video finally cuts out.

"I'm sorry, Karla, I really am." Samantha frowns. "But we need to come up with a decision."

"What are my options?"

"Well, I doubt you're going to just give up fighting OB." Samantha rolls her eyes. "I know you pilot types. Too much pride. so you're never just going to give up. That leaves us with two options. You either turn yourself in, or you go for that challenge which isn't a totally obvious trap."

"Isn't turning myself in a death sentence?" You frown.

"Well, not necessarily." Samantha shakes her head. "We believe that OB won't execute you, at least not right away. This might give us an opportunity to get an 'in'. Figure out where their HQ is."

"Maybe I should just take my chances in the air." You frown.

"Well, you're free to take that option, too." Samantha replies.

Huh.

Guys.

I think this is a trap option.

Think about it. They kidnap milly and want Karla to turn herself in or stop fighting OB.

BUT. 'Senior Members' of OB want a proper duel. A Gauntlet, if you would. Against Karla. Their best against her alone to see who comes up on top.

The senior members of OB STILL have some honour about them. They still believe in the creed of the Knights of the Sky and we will be fighting them in the air.

What happens when they're all dead?

What happens when those at the top of OB, no longer have a shred of honour?

Maybe, maybe not." Sam sighs. "Then again, this assumes we actually tell them."

"Who else knows about this?" You ask, raising an eyebrow.

"As of now? You, me, Jager, Treister, and a few guys in Intel and Corporate. Oh, and Corporate would prefer you not do anything to risk you position in this company. You're a big earner, after all."

"Of course." You shake your head.

Well'p, I was really late with that vote of mine. Anyway, to build off my previous post:

>>42159354
>Perhaps repeating an old classic -- "This is the Round Table. Dead men's words hold no meaning."

Or instead maybe a play on those words. Or a subversion or something.

Actually...

How about we ask them about Aces?

With the way Pixy spoke his "Do you know? There are 3 kinds of aces..." thing, it sounded like it was a shared bit of culture among fighter pilots. Or perhaps among Belkan fighter pilots.

So it'd be interesting if we directly brought that up, as an in-universe thing.

"In "Warriors and the Belkan War", Pixy said that there were thee kinds of aces. Which do you see yourselves as?"

I think I prefer that over the "dead men's words etcetc" thing. If only because it *encourages* communication rather than effectively being a "stfu".

Talking is good. Reveals character and plot and all that.
>>
>>42159385
How better to make them shit their pants? I'll bet they still haven't figured our new plane out yet.
>>
>>42159492
they already recognize our paint scheme. What would make them shit brickz is the addition of Pixy's red wing.
>>
>>42159492
I'd say it also goes the other way. We don't know what the "Legendary Plane" status effect is yet.
>>
>>42159519
That's the point. We've flown it with the plain blue scheme. We haven't flown it with the red wing yet.
>>
>>42159563
Well I think it has to do with Pixy's final Duel with Cipher that also deals with the whole jousting sequence and such.
>>
>>42159492
>>42159519
>they already recognize our paint scheme. What would make them shit brickz is the addition of Pixy's red wing.

Which is another reason I really want to quote Pixy's memorable and oft-repeated line about aces.

Plus, the whole ace styles thing struck me as something that was influenced by Foulke's Belkan heritage?

(And if not, then I'll bet that after the documentary came out, it *became* linked to mercenaries and/or Belkans.)

Sure, while we might not be on board any "Fuck this city in particular, with a superweapon!" plans... but you can't deny that Pixy was a legendary pilot.

"Of course I'm telling them." You huff. "What makes think I wouldn't?"

"Just making sure." Samantha grins. "Right, well, I guess I have a response to draft. Meet me in the briefing room once you're done."

With a small wave, Samantha spins on her heel and marches off to do whatever she does when you're not around her. You reluctantly turn back to your squadronmates.

"Hey! Karla! So what was that about?" Lara asks excitedly like a puppy. "Was Samantha so impressed with our work that she decided to give us all raises?"

"Not exactly." You sigh. "Milly got captured by OB."

"Holy shit." Amy gasps.

"O-oh no!" Lilian puts a hand to her mouth. "Is she okay?"

"For now." You confirm.

"Those fuckers!" Lara bellows as she stomps back to her Eagle. "C'mon! Let's go get her back!"

"Lara." You grumble as you stop her with a hand to a shoulder. "Do you even know the first place to find her?"

"Ehhh...." Lara pauses when she realizes the truth. "You got a point there."

"Anyways, we got a plan." You try to assure them.

"Is it a GOOD plan?" Amy asks the armor piercing question like the smartass she is.

"Nope. Just the regular old, stupid plan." You say.

As in, we'd *actually* have them all join the fight -- despite us being explicitly told it was to be a solo affair?

Or would it just be them escorting us?

Or is the escort part of the "Sorry, solo" option?

You know, we talk about all the (relatively) positive aspects of the 3 styles of Aces that we don't really hear the negatives.

Knights have the potential to fall into hubris in their quest for glory, Soldiers may have to compromise their morals in order to get the job done, and Mercenaries could get kinda lonely being the last man standing.

"Sorry, I'm doing this one solo." You sigh. "They want me there alone."

"That's bullshiiiiit!" Lara snaps. "We're a team! The four of us!"

"Lara, please." Lilian holds Lara back. "You need to understand, this is for Milly's sake."

"R-right." Lara tries to calm herself down.

"Anyways, Samantha's hashing out a plan right now." You say ."I'm going to meet her in the briefing room. You're free to tag along if you want."

"Ha! Can't drop all this shit on us and expect us to stand on the sidelines!" Amy punches you in the shoulder. "Let's go!"

It's a quick trip back to the briefing room, where you see Samantha and Jager at the holotable, apparently in a deep discussion. You step forward to gain their attention.

"Oh, Karla!" Samantha turns to you.

"Karla." Jager nods. "I undertsand you're in a tough position."

"Damn right I am." You sigh. "So, Samantha, any updates?"

"Well, there's a bit of good news." Samantha grins. "I pulled a little bit of my magic. Convinced OB that we wouldn't show if we didn't have proof of life. They'll be bringing Milly to the Round Table, too, which is where Jager here comes in."

"I'll have a team ready to extract Milly once we confirm her location." Jager says. "Don't worry, I've got my best people on this."

"Right now, Jager's team will be part of the main plan. While OB is busy tangling with you, he'll extract Milly, and then you can bug out before things get too hairy." Samantha says.

You know... it made sense when said aloud, but something in you felt that it wasn't exactly... fair to leave a battle like that.

Plus it would be a good opportunity to wipe out OB's best pilots in one fell swoop...

It's pretty easy to get around. Plus he was samefagging earlier, so it's quite easy to spot.
>>

Unlikely. There's a minute-long cooldown on posting.

And, IIRC, a 5 minute cooldown if you try to post the exact same thing.

Which means that, at its worst, 3 of those 4 posts *cannot* be by the same person. Due to either the 1 minute or 5 (2? pretty sure it's more than 1 min if posting exact same) min limit.
>>
>>42160559
Uh wouldn't the more simple explanation be several people posting at the same time? That's how it looks like to me.

"Sounds like a plan." You say. "Any other intel?"

"Well, the projected area is over one of the more famous sections of the Round Table." Samantha points at the map. "It's basically a huge sand bowl. Very low likelihood of emplaced SAM sites or anything like that."

"Probably chose it because it would be tough for us to get assets there, too." Jager notes. "And it also would help conceal the location of their HQ as well."

"Then what are all these readings here?" You point to all the grey splotches that stood out from the yellow desert sand.

"Plane wrecks." Samantha explains. "Leftovers from the Belkan War."

"Jeez." Lara frowns as she leans in. "There's gotta be... hundreds of them."

"Nobody said it was a bloodless war." Samantha shakes her head. "The locals have taken to calling this particular section the Graveyard, and it's not just for the planes."

"Charming." You sigh.

"Now look, Karla, I understand things can get really hairy out there." Samantha reminds you. "Wolf and Butterfly teams both have stealth aircraft, so they can loiter closer to the engagement zone than your squadron. Of course, the more assets we have sitting around, the greater the chance for detection, so we can only deploy one team."

"I'd love to have my own squad watching my back, but the more sensible option is to have Wolf do it." You admit.

"Understandable." Samantha nods. "Their F-22's stealth will allow them to stick close to the fight, in case you or Jager needs quick support."

"Also, I do have something to say." Jager steps forward. "One thing that made the Round Table, the Graveyard in particular, so dangerous was that the local geography and soil composition made it difficult to establish radio communication. There were a lot of pilots who punched out and never came back."

"So, if I do get shot down, I might as well go down with the plane?" You raise an eyebrow.

"I'm just saying be careful." Jager sighs.

"ANYWAYS." Sam coughs. "There's also the matter of what plane you're using."

"Yeah, some rest sounds good." You nod. "I'll see you tomorrow, then."

"First thing in the morning!" Samantha instructs.

"Yeah, yeah." You roll your eyes.

With that, you head back to the barracks as you try to suppress a yawn. It felt like, no, it WAS a long day. You had to do two operations in the same day, one being a night bombing raid and then an emergency interception immediately after. Hell, the sun wasn't even down yet! However, as you head over, Lara skips over next to you, with one of those big, stupid, sloppy grins she gets when she's planning something. You glare at her suspiciously, and she only giggles in response.

"Awww, but I thought-" Lara's smile droops.

"Now now, Lara, Karla is right." Lilian grabs Lara's shoulders from behind and steers her away. "She's got an important mission tomorrow and needs to be on top of her game!"

"I guess...." Lara pouts.

"Well, uh, anyways." Amy steps up to you. "If you need anything, you know where to find us."

"On a dating site?" You crack a smile.

"Haha, fuck you too." Amy rolls her eyes.

Your squadmates then split off from, doubtless off to participate in their own adventures without you. You return to the barracks and to your room. After a quick shower and change of clothes, you pull down the curtains on your window to block out the harsh sun and collapse on your bed, Milly's safety being the last thing on your mind as you drift off to sleep....

...and the next thing you know, you're a cockpit. You hurriedly jerk your head around to identify the controls, and quickly realize that you're sitting in the seat of an F-5. Not just any F-5, though...

It was your old one, the one that you flew-

You quickly glance out of the canopy to try and get a bearing on your surroundings. You see...

Bah to you people
>>
>>42162737
I mean i don't see the chemistry.

Cyberidol Jenner and Producer was fun because it worked especially after being in Jenner's shoes during their break.

IN GBF the MC, had a rivalry with Char and had a weird childhood friend thing with Lucina.

While Alice didn't win her shipping war in Magical Girl Hunter , we saw development and growth there.

As of this story, I don't see much chemistry between Karla and Jaeger other then Karla doing a little more then catcalling.

I guess, but if this is final destination and this quest running it's coarse, I guess thinking about that and just ending with "Jaeger and Karla went on a date" on his post credit scripts, feels unsatisfying
>>

Yeah I'll admit Jaeger is kinda boring without us controlling him.

Well to be fair we are Pilot mercenaries and Jaeger was in land forces. Kind of makes it hard to see him in the first place.

Though that just brings me back to the point of why Karla likes him besides being a fellow Belkin and Muscles?

You see an F-16 with a purple heart-shaped emblem on its side. However, upon closer inspection, you see that it's actually a cartoonish depiction of a crow holding an arrow in its mouth. Again, you get the vague feeling that you've seen this plane or this emblem before, but you can't where.

"Hey there!" The pilot calls out over the radio. The voice is cheerful and peppy, all the hallmarks of a young pilot, either a nugget or a freshly graduated one. "It's not often I see another plane around these parts! What brings you here?"

"Umm, I'm not actually sure." You mumble. "I pretty sure I'm dreaming right now."

"Well, of course you are!" The other pilot laughs. "I'm PJ! It's nice to meet you!"

"Hey PJ." You assume that's his callsign. "I'm Valkyrie. Can you uh, explain what's going on here?"

"Well, you said it yourself. You're dreaming!" PJ laughs. You see his Falcon do a playful loop in the air. "You know, I heard stuff like this happens. Pilots speaking to long dead aces before a big battle. Pretty spooky, huh?"

"A bit." You nod, still not sure if what you were experiencing was real or not. "Does... does that make you like my spirit ace or something?"

"Ha! That's a good one! Spirit ace!" PJ bursts into laughter again. He vaguely reminds you a bit of Lara, actually. "But nah, I was just passing by. But if you got any problems, I'll do my best to help!"

"I'm going into a battle where my friend's life is on the line." You explain.

"Ha, isn't that how it is in all battles?" PJ points out.

"Well, more like, she's being held hostage because of me, and now I'm throwing myself into a pretty obvious trap on the off chance that I might be able to save her." You explain further.

"Ah, well... good luck with that!" PJ replies.

"Wait, what? Seriously?" You blink. "I thought spirit aces were supposed to give life changing advice?"

"Ah, well, I'm not too good with that sort of stuff." PJ admits. "But hey, if you're as good as they say you are, it shouldn't be a problem, right? You'll knock those bastards out of the air. I guarantee it!"

"Thanks, I guess." You sigh.

"Also, I do have some advice, though whether it's life changing would be up to your interpretation, I guess." PJ continues. "You now a guy named Tombstone?"

"Yeah." Your heart stops for a second. "What about him?"

"Just a heads up, but he's not as gone as you may think." PJ warns. "And he's pretty mad."

You wonder if you're hearing is really true. It was undoubted that you had shot the bastard down. You don't recall seeing him punch out, but you did pass by pretty fast, after all.

"Thanks for the warning, PJ." You say.

"No problem! Always glad to help!" The spectral pilot laughs and you vision begins to fade out as the Falcon climbs up in the sky, going higher and faster than a Falcon, or any plane for that matter, was physically capable of.

And then you wake up.

Time to go save Milly.

Ok then. It's just that we were getting into a constant routine of just getting into the air, fuck up shit, complete objective, rinse and repeat.

It's ace combat so of coarse it will be a lot about jets, I was just getting worried about completing handing character development stories.

I'm pretty sure I missed a couple more but it will just be a shame to end this without dealing with them.

Hey Merc Command, out of curiosity, what might the *other* choices have resulted in? Also a spooky dream meeting with an Ace? A different setting to where the meeting took place? A different selection of aces?

Or would it have gone in another direction, such as by having a memory of the past or future rather than a ghostly meeting?

We really need to go on that fucking date andetx needs to stop fucking cockblocking us with bullshit that destroys any chance of development with jager, because the sheer amount of times we've tried to so that and had merc pull shit in the way is fucking absurd
>>
>>42163346
We really need to do those things, endless missions is getting boring and the characters meaningless with any socialising to put them in context and develop them and us.

Merc stop running from it for fucks sake.

>>
Guys, guys, relax and ease off a little bit.
>>
>>42164107
If only we didn't know better, we've been through this template too many times to think we'll get around to these side plots when its pretty clear merc doesn't give a shit about them and hasn't for a long time

Call me jaded and cynical but I see him do it time and time again and its seriously detrimental to the quests quality and its getting fucking annoying and old.
>>
>>42164135
then why are you still here, other than to whine and complain when you don't get what you want
>>
>>42164064
We literally just had a chance to socialize with our squadron and the thread voted against it. Sorry you're in the minority of a quest.
>>
>>42164511
And when we last voted to socialize guess what happened, we didnt, for the last three times we've gone to do that bullshit gets in the way, in this thread it wasn't really appropriate to go do the slumber party thing but we should have at least spent some time with jager
>>
>>42164474
Because I want merc to actually carry through with those side plots and develop those characters like we keep trying yet he keeps avoiding when we go for it.
>>
>>42164474
Not all of us want to play a bland robot surrounded by bland robots doing robot things thread after thread, they've got to have some character, some stories and developments, and they've had none for a damn long time because merc keeps pushing the plot along so goddamned fast, like everyone said weeks back, the pacing is shite and the quest suffers for it.
>>
>>42164564
Then write a convincing >Other option as opposed to spending all that time you do bitching in other posts. Whining about things after you lose a vote only makes you sound like a bitch.

>Not all of us want to play a bland robot surrounded by bland robots doing robot things thread after thread

Well apparently everyone else does and is having fun. Stop reading the thread if you're tired of feeling like nobody else shares your wonderful ideas about what could happen elsewhere in the story. You seriously have bitched a bloody streak in like every other thread in this quest, has it ever occurred to you that there are other players who vote the way they do because they like playing things out in that fashion?

If you assumed a trip, I would purposefully vote against any and every option you supported just because you are a whiny little fuck.
